Tagalog Sample Sentence:

Kamusta po! ... Ha!? Ay! Ano mga ito, ha?! Ay, sosmaryosep! (Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!) Sa'an galing yan!? Heheh! O, sige, puede ko ba ipicturahan, po?

Do you notice anything? That's right! Modern Tagalog contains words that're understandable to folk from many regions and cultures! This is due to The Philippines' long history as a popular trading hub in Southeast Asia.

Unfortunately, though some of the mixture of cultures is due to more peaceful diffusion, there has been colonization as well from distant Muslim empires, to the Spanish, the Americans after them, and Imperial Japan during WWII.

Some would claim that, even after the United States "freed" The Philippines as its colony, it continued to use economic and perhaps cultural means of control over the islands! This is a more "undetectable" form of colonialism/imperialism that we see in many places 'round the globe.

Sample Tagalog Sentence 2:

O! Hoy! Kamusta nanaman, po! Sos... bakit ka nandito, ha?!

Did you begin noticing anything? It's true: the old Spanish greeting of "Como estas" has, over hundreds of years, turned simply into "Kamusta!" When tracing languages it's important to remember natural drift, especially when the mix of cultures happened hundreds of years ago...

Although this book is aimed at 12-year-olds and younger, I believe that many adults also should read this book. It gives examples of common, negative reactions to daily situations (when someone makes a mistake, when someone is trying out a new look, when someone wants to be alone, etc.) such as asking why they don't know how to do something, expressing your opinion that the way they looked before was preferable, etc. It explains why these negative phrases aren't helpful and gives examples of how your friend might react if you use them. Then it gives phrases that you can use instead, phrases that support the other person rather than bringing them down.

This is a high level book for Japanese learners but I think that intermediate to high N3 learners would be able to understand a significant amount, especially as there is abundant furigana (thank you, 12-year-old target readers). Illustrations also allow for easier understanding of the topics presented. I think it's useful for learning native turns of phrase to use in certain situations.

語言無法描述的經驗與體驗，反而是語言活著的證明。 但語言如果無法完整描述，那語言便有被取代的可能，反而會因此而死去。

至此! 就能透過自身的生命，共情共感，語言的脈搏。 再也不用經由描述「我」與「他」的他心問題，來證明語言的先驗與超驗本質。

最後「他心問題」，必須容許不是每個人都能活出自己的現況，即便「我」能等同於「他」，也只能在進程裡被允許存在，除此之外的「我等同於他」都沒有意義，而終將不等於(不同步)。

[N2] ミステリと言う勿れ（なかれ）

It's been a few years since I started this manga series about a student who is accused of murder and brought to the station where he instead turns the investigation around and becomes involved into more mysteries against his will.

It has full furigana but complex vocabulary. I would recommend it primarily to readers with abilities about JLPT N2.

I'm reblogging my own review from when I read the first volume because there's currently a promotion on Bookwalker Japan and you can read the first five volumes of the series for free! HOWEVER the deal is only valid until tomorrow... But if you like the mystery/detective genre, a tight deadline and free manga definitely check it out!
