It took me about eight seconds to like PosT PANiC's, energetic synth-dance rock based on its wild driving opening. The synth rhythms and the drums really give the track a lot of propulsion and the screeching guitar and synths give it a lot of energy.

It's not a perfect track since it doesn't quite make the most of its energy throughout the track with a few dead spots, but it's hard to really complain when the music is this fun.

Here's my second interview for Moksori! This time, let's meet the digital punk band PosT PANiC (포스트패닉)!

            Their original name was ‘The United93’ (taken from the American movie of the same name), until the band chose to take a new path in their career in forming a new band with their new name and deciding to sign with SoundHolic Entertainment.

    The group was created by Andy En (Vocals, Guitar), Ken (Guitar, Vocals) and PJ (Bass), and they were soon joined by their neighbor, J (Drums) and BLAu (Synthesizer).

  “We all begun music at the same time and we came from the same town. People around us didn’t seem to understand each other. That is why we decided to form a band in July 2010. We wanted to create music that would please us as well as the public. Originally Ken, PJ and I were all playing guitar… PJ sacrificed himself by agreeing to play the bass (laughs)” -Andy

  Quickly, they are appearing on TV shows (EBS space…) as well as festivals (Pentaport Rock Festivals and Busan Festival in 2010, Let’s rock Festival in 2011) and won the Live Music Contest in September 2011.

    At that time J decided to quit the band to do his military service and to take another path. They were then helped by 일호 for one year before the arrival of SangKyun (Mass, 김상균), the current drummer.

  “He contacted us through the Internet after watching our performance on TOP BAND. He suggested that BLAu (who was one of his friends) join the group” -Andy

“He is bringing light (laughs) and wisdom” -PJ

“I was wild, which is good on stage but not as good during recording sessions. SangKyun brings us his expertise, as he was in many bands before.” -Andy

    They were then recognized as the “Best Rookie of the Month” by Olleh Music Awards (January 26th, 2012), participated in Countdown Fantasy Festival and also at the GreenPlugged Festival (2012). The same year they signed with SoundHolic Ent. (Monni, WHOWho, GlenCheck…).

“We were contacted by some agencies. All were promising us glory. All but one - SoundHolic Ent. They told us there was no easy way to achieve success and that we would have to work hard. They talked about reality. That is why we chose them.” -Andy

    They then challenged themselves and decided to start with a new band, “PosT PANiC”, on November 1st, 2012. “PosT” signifying the change, to show they are producing a punk sound different from others by adding digital music.

“We had two choices, we could only change the name of the band or we could start with a new band. Our music was powerful on stage and the fans appreciated that, but we couldn’t do the same on CDs. We then decided to produce a sound more accessible, not only with a new name, but also as a new band.” -Andy

    Their music, driven by the bass, and by the characteristics of punk rock is then mixed to sound more digital than before, using DJ’s and Fx’s parts differently than other bands. Mixing digital sound into punk rock is what they are calling ‘Digital Punk’. Their first album, “Outer Space”, was then released on April 23rd, 2013.

“I am watching a lot of documentaries on channels like “National Republic” and “Discovery”. The name, “Outer Space”, came from one of them. There was a documentary about work in space with the sentence “3, 2, 1, Ignition”, that impacted me (laughs).” -Andy

“We produced the songs of the album quickly. At this time we were listening to a lot of Electro bands and we went to watch a lot of concerts, because we wanted to do something different from them. We also wanted to stay really Rock.” -Andy

    Their number one song:

Ken: “Dance on the razor and Sky’s on fire”. “It is because he made them (laughs)” -Andy,

“Yes, but also because they are fitting our sound”

SangKyun: “Sky’s on fire. Active, my favorite music style… I’m done (laughs)”

PJ: “1, 2, 3 alive. It is a beautiful song.”

Andy: “1, 2, 3 alive. I did this song, I produced it and we spent a lot of time on it… a few months. This song is really bright with oriental inspirations. We even hesitated to take it as our first single!”

    Since BLAu left, the band has had to make some changes. So Andy and PJ began to play synthesizer and Fx as well as their own intruments. To overcome some difficulties, SeongSu (황성수), from the band “We are the Night”, is still helping them when they play live.

“We tried to find a new member... but for now we didn’t find anyone as good as him. He is really good and efficient on stage.” -Andy

      They are hoping to play abroad in the future. “American Tour!” (Ken). And their participation at Red Bull Live on The Road 2013 (where they were victorious in the 3rd stage of the auditions on June 29th) was a first step toward this dream. They are also considering doing their first concert in Japan.

“Bands who are doing tours abroad are popular” -SeongSu

“A lot of Korean Bands should tour” -Ken

“It is difficult to have opportunities… first money (laughs)” -Andy

“France is actually more open to Electro Music and HipHop. I know Hocus Pocus!” -SeongSu

“We would like to bring “The Panic” in Korean Rock. Show to the public that we are different from others. And evolve our sound little by little.” -Andy

      They are planning to make a new EP for PosT PANiC around the end of the year or in the first part of 2014, as well as another album for “The United 93”.

      Do you have a message for Moksori’s readers?

  SangKyun: “Our music, how is it? I want to know what you think!”

Ken: “I want to go to the Louvre, I like France and I would like French people to want us!”

PJ: “Buy our CD’s on iTunes! (laughs)”

Andy: “I always wanted to play abroad.”

SeongSu: “Say “Hi!” to DaftPunk. Thanks for your music.”

Ken: “I want to drink French beer! (laughs).”
