They were seen as taboo before for the most part due to the rising tension between the races, but they were there. However, they were often hidden away and made to look like perfect monster or perfect human.

Ironically, you could take away that the human magicians who made the barrier were seen as powerful humans who learned how to control magic, and likely thought so themselves, but humans can't use magic. Point blank period. They weren't fully humans.

You could also believe they knew but were too connected to humans or trying to save their skin like boss monsters. I have interpretations, but I want it to be clear I am not against going canon. :)

If there were any obvious hybrids, they'd likely be shoved down into the underground because they're just as bad, and through generations (depending on how long you like to think it is) their offspring would be basically fully monster or fully.

Monsters and humans aren't different species like in many other stories. The game states that they're races; I wouldn't fully say that, since although there are slight differences between human races, Caucasians and idk let's say Asians aren't made up of completely different things. I'd say they're closest to breeds than races or species.

Hybrid's chemistries are wildly different from each other, there aren't any rules that every hybrid follows other than their family tree isn't fully monster or fully human.

Hybrids of boss monsters and humans are the most common in the present day if not all of them, so hybrids are stronger than they usually would be. If Chara was part regular monster and not part boss monster, their magic wouldn't be nearly as strong, due to inheriting much more human than monster.

I like Chara myself because they aren't born as incredibly strong with magic, but instead they found out how to use their abilities to better use instead of just using it like normal monsters, and trained hard for it.

Again, I can't stress enough that I'm talking about my own thoughts and this is not meant to be any rules, so don't think this, but I personally see Chara as someone didn't have a full monster as a parent, instead having a hybrid parent and a human with the boss monster being a bit farther up the lineage, while Sans had a full boss monster as a parent.

another thing that KPDH gets right is that they have a chubby male character who is not the butt of fatphobic jokes.

in any other movie, a character like Bobby would be the comic relief — the bumbling, incompetent fat character who probably eats too much and is constantly made fun of.

but the writers of this movie treat him like any other character. he's funny but he's not pushed into the role of comic relief. in fact, all of the characters in this movie have their own funny moments, there is no comic relief.

he is also competent enough as the manager of Huntrix. of course he doesn't know that they're demon hunters, but he handles everything else well, even defending Rumi from the fans when she was having issues with her voice.

there are no comments made about his body and no mean-spirited jokes made at his expense. in fact, the girls are very fond of him and look up to him, to the point where Zoey and Mira ditch their show to save him when they thought he was being attacked by demons.

Bobby also has a traditionally feminine side without, again, being made fun of or infantilized for it. he wears pink face masks and dressing gowns, he matches outfits with his girl group, he dances to trendy boy band songs, but none of it is exaggerated or played for laughs. and he's not given the Gay Best Friend™ treatment either or paraded around like a purse dog.

and while his character isn't too deeply explored, he has his own issues. he cares so deeply about Huntrix and Gwi-Ma is able to convince him that he was the reason they broke up.

a lot of movies don't know when to tone down the comedic characters and has them being goofy and annoying during a serious moment (*cough* the hunchback of notre dame with the fucking gargoyles *cough*) so i'm glad this movie gave Bobby some depth and had him deal with his own insecurities during the third act.

Bruce tries to adopt Ellie, who is immediately against it. She keeps throwing him off her trail and he keeps tracking her down. She's honestly concerned, and normally she would handle her problems by herself- but this is Batman.

So when Bruce gets a little too close and Ellie is just so tired... she calls for Danny.

Cue college student, perpetually tired and overworked Danny "High King Phantom" Fenton appearing from the very shadows Batman normally does himself, seeing the situation and going off at this "clearly older man" chasing his daughter in the middle of the night.

it's very important to understand how a personality disorder diagnosis functions in the psychiatric system, even if you identify with the diagnosis or find it useful.

personality disorders on your medical record will be used to discredit anything you say or do. they indicate "don't bother listening to this person; apply treatment regardless of their wishes but also they're probably manipulating/attention-seeking so maybe don't bother treating them". needing support becomes attention-seeking. behaviors that would be treated + supported in someone without this diagnosis are ignored or treated as manipulative. providers are instructed to "withdraw warmth" (a real thing in the DBT provider's manual, btw) in response to self-injury or suicidal ideation.

if you have been dx'd with a personality disorder professionally, you likely understand this.

now, here's the important part: this is not an issue of 'stigma' against a politically neutral, pre-discursive True Disease which is being Unfairly Maligned. these diagnoses were formulated based on the idea that some patients cannot be trusted, that some patients seek care too much. they are applied to patient charts as a justification for withdrawing care or as a dismissal of someone "not getting better" fast enough. in the uk, they are often employed by the nhs to shame or problematize people who use large amounts of nhs resources, arguing that receiving a lot of care through the nhs is a negative behavior stemming from a disordered personality.

there are elements of personality disorders which resonate strongly with many people, including myself, but you need to be clear-eyed about the origins + functions of this diagnosis. as a whole, they were created + function as ways to discredit + mistreat noncompliant or "difficult" patients. 'reclaiming' them is not going to change how they function systematically- it is going to make it easier to engage in this systematic neglect by evoking 'ableism' or 'stigma!' when people question the utility or application of the diagnosis.
