this is driving me insane i can't stop thinking about it. i keep seeing posts i know are vagueing that post and it's so insane to me how much it got twisted.
here's the posts that started the discourse. copy pasting for accessibility and to remove urls. these posts are in reference to a screenshot of a tiktok with the caption "Taking my daughter to my laser hair removal appt so she learns about self care and doesn't feel guilty about it when she gets older."
this is fucking ghoulish (in next reblog) the way enforcing harmful and patriarchal beauty standards has gotten rebranded as "self care" and something that is no longer done to please men but now something that is "liberating" and something you do "for you" now is fucking insidious . taking your four year old daughter to watch you get laser hair removal is not "teaching her about self care" it's teaching her that there is something wrong with her from a very young age, and that she'll need to spend the rest of her life getting it fixed . you cannot reframe indoctrinating your own fucking daughter into this as a girlboss self care queen move. this is insane. (next reblog) self care is when you shave your legs… for yourself! self care is when you get a nose job…. for yourself! self care is when you when you spend 200$ on wellness products and diet tips and buy buy buy so much makeup that you need to put on everytime you leave the house or else you are an ugly pig … for yourself! self care is when you buy what the tell you to buy and do what they've always told you to do but don't worry girl. you're doing this for YOU this time . girl slayyy you are so hashtag crushing the patriarchy. i want to kill myself. (next reblog) (screenshot of a comment reading: "I don't get how everyone here claims to support trans people and body autonomy, and then claim that gender affirming care such as laser is furthering the patriarchy. That's literally a TERF talking point. Cis people should be allowed to have gender affirming care too." comment over) it's so over man it's never been more over than it is rn (next reblog) "laser hair removal is gender affirming care and cis people should be able to access it too" ok why is laser hair removal gender affirming care though. why is being completely removed of all of your body hair something that is seen as part of "being female" to the point you're expected to perform or you will be constantly shamed. that is the point i'm getting at here. this shit doesn't exist in a vacuum. patriarchal expectations surrounding womens body hair also hurt trans women and i don't think it's bad to point that out. (next reblog) "beauty standards are bad actually and hurt women" "well trans women are forced to adhere to those beauty standards too . so you're against gender affirming care" what?
okay. this seems very straightforward to me. basically just "you shouldn't teach your daughter that adhering to patriarchal beauty standards is self care because that will mean she internalizes the idea that having body hair is bad, which is fucked up. i don't think body hair should be seen as part of being a woman, it's harmful to cis and trans women, societal standards of womanhood are fucked up". which is a really normal feminism 101 take tbh. when i was 12 and found out what feminism was that was like, the first thing i learned, is that not shaving is a morally neutral action. it's fine. this post is literally just saying "shaving isnt inherently self care and saying it is might be damaging for little kids."
but people got really mad about that for some reason. so then there's this post, from someone else, responding to carson's post.
if you argue for restricting access to laser hair removal (or whatever surgeries) on the grounds of Protecting Women and even "well trans women shouldn't be pressured to have these procedures anyway! :)" I think you should play in traffic
and i see what they're saying. obviously i think people should have bodily autonomy.
but like. that's... not the point carson was making . i've reread the post trying to figure out where it says that and it doesn't. that's just not what the post says. nobody is arguing for restricting access to laser hair removal. people are just saying it's fucked up that women are pressured into getting it.
and then there's another post, also responding to the original posts:
Blonde cis woman who gets peach fuzz you need a microscope to see if she doesn't shave: "Aren't trans women such gender conformists for shaving their body and getting permanent hair removal. They are upholding patriarchal beauty standards entirely by themselves. I don't shave, because I have courage to against the dictates of femininity *sees an unshaven trans woman* Ugh, she isn't even trying.
in the spirit of good faith i won't assume that this person was calling carson a cis woman and rather that this is just a stereotypical type of person they're mad at. but like. who said this ? i reread the posts again just in case. it doesn't say that . it says that the one specific mother in the original tiktok is harming her child by teaching her that following patriarchal rules about womanhood is self care. it says nothing about trans women "upholding patriarchal beauty standards entirely by themselves" and it definitely doesn't shame trans women for not shaving.
okay one more post.
People when a transfem lets out so much as the slightest hint that societal standards have harmed her in a way that makes body hair a source of anxiety because of how she'll be treated by people and that has maybe caused her some dysphoria at some point in her life: "You are directly responsible for the patriarchy and should be ashamed of promoting it. Clearly you know nothing about real women's struggles despite being part of a subset of woman that is under a disproportionate amount of scrutiny for this sort of thing." People when a transmasc expresses a desire to get more body hair when he goes on t because of his own dysphoria: "yeah that's awesome bro you go get that manly manly body hair!"
first of all. really obsessed with the society people made up in their heads to get mad at where everyone loves trans men and supports our medical and transition decisions. this doesn't happen. like straight up society at large is not throwing parties for trans men who transition. overwhelmingly even in queer spaces it's discouraged. if i had a nickel for every joke from a cis queer woman abt how testosterone turns trans guys into Big Scary Men and Why would anyone choose to be a man and etc etc etc. it's a lot! i've heard it a lot!
but anyway. yes obviously transfems are harmed by societal standards about body hair. both from dysphoria and threat of violence and discrimination. but, like. when did carson say all that stuff about "real women's struggles". point me to the place in the post where trans women were blamed for cisheteropatriarchal beauty standards. where was it stated that trans women getting laser hair removal is them being responsible for the patriarchy. where does it say that in the post.
if i didn't know these posts were about carson's post i would probably not be able to figure it out because they're just so far removed from the actual point being made and it's so baffling to me. isn't it exhausting to take everything in bad faith. isn't it tiring to twist someone's words just to get mad at the version of them u made up in ur head. aren't you tired. isn't there something better to be doing
honestly fucking insane that carson said "i dont think women, cis or trans, should have to shave or get lazer hair removal to be respected and/or seen as women" and people went "wow i cant believe this person said that trans women shouldnt be able to get lazer hair removal" like What the fuck are you talking about . that's literally just not what carson said.

PSA from a fandom con photographer
As some of you know, I'm a con photographer. A while back, a bunch of us joined a group chat together, and we talk about all things cons and photography in there. Recently, the subject of photo theft has come up again, but this time a new comment was made and that's why I'm here.
In the past, I've heard photographers express frustration about people reposting our photos with watermarks cropped out or otherwise removed. Sometimes, these photos are edited further and someone else's watermark slapped on top of it. This is disrespectful, at best, and really offends the original photographer. Usually, this is done in an effort to gain clout online, and not for any artistic reasons. This is not what I'm here to talk about.
I know that a lot of folks on Tumblr use con photos for fic headers and aesthetics and such, especially for RPF fics. (Because we can totally tell whether a photo is Jensen or Dean, even with the background edited out, he's just that good.) It's come to my attention that some photographers would be REALLY uncomfortable with their art being used this way. They don't read fic, they don't understand it, or they just don't want their art used in a way that misinterprets the moment captured in the photo, even if it's fiction.
We need to respect this.
How do we feel when someone reblogs our fics and uses it to prop up an argument about our characters that we disagree with? We feel kinda shitty. That's how photographers feel when their photos are used in ways they weren't consulted about.
How do we fix this?
When you search Google and find an image from a con, do a reverse lookup on that image and AT LEAST TRY to find the original photographer. If the photo has been taken in the last year or so, you can come to me and see if I know who took it, too.
Ask that photographer if they are okay with you using their image in the way you intend. I know this is a pain, but remember how you'd feel if someone used your art without asking permission!
Many times, if you ask, the answer will be yes. Sometimes, it may be no. Please respect the answer you receive.
If you honestly try and can't find the photographer, then at least put a comment captioning this on the post where you use the photo. If you make a good faith effort and express this in your caption, that at least lets us know that you tried.
If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask me!

Personal note from me: If you like any of my photos, you are welcome to use them. I know I don't make the best photos in the fandom, so this isn't much, but it's there.
Also, "credit to Google" or "I found this on Google" is not credit. Google does not create images. Google only indexes them.
Just remember that there is a person behind every image and piece of art you find on Google.
Also, if you don't contact the artist/photographer, how does that person know that you liked their work? They don't. This is the same as if someone reads your fic but doesn't hit the heart or reblog it. Personally, I LOVE getting asked about my photos the same way I love hearing feedback on my fics. Let your photographer know you love their work!
I've been asked about screen grabs and gifs. I'm referencing just those photos taken by people at cons. Screengrabs and gifs also take talent to create, so if you can find out who made them and give them credit, that's awesome. Photos taken from the star's Twitter or IG....that's a good question. Credit would go to them, but they are impossible to ask if they mind. An argument could also be made that they know what might happen to any photo they put out there. (Maybe put a link to the original as credit?)
It was only recently that I saw someone comment about their photo being used to apply a narrative to Jensen based on his facial expression in the photo, and a brief mention of fic happened right after that, and I just got the feeling that certain photographers would not be pleased to know how we use their photos, sometimes.
As far as I know, no photographer has found their photo in a fic header and complained. But based on what was said, if they did, they might not be happy. And not just because most photos used in a fic header end up being further edited to make it work with the header, beyond cropping. For instance, an asexual photographer might feel icky about their photo being used as a header for a smut fic.
TL;DR - Credit your photographers in your headers, edits, and mood boards when at all possible. Make the effort to contact them and ask for permission. Some may give you blanket permission as I have. Some may not. Either way, this is their art that you're manipulating, so please respect it.
steps off soap box Thank you for listening!

Links, tag system, and additional info.
I try to avoid reblogging things to this account - that's what my main blog is for. If you see a reblog on here, feel free to let me know so I can delete it!
I handle all commissions through my professional email, artcommissionsbyred (at) gmail (dot) com. For the foreseeable future, my commissions are closed.
If you would like a heads-up on upcoming commission availability, please subscribe to my general mailing list here! (Mailing list subscribers also get earlier or sometimes even exclusive access to things like limited-time slots, which I sometimes do when I'm hard up for quick cash.)
I also have a new paid subscription mailing list, which I'm doing as an alternative to SubscribeStar or Patreon to maintain more control over the way my art is viewable, what I can share with everyone, and how payments work - hopefully for everyone's benefit! This only costs $5, and you get to see everything I make, behind-the-scenes WIPs, and other stuff like that as well as getting priority on any physical stuff I sell :D

Rules of Engagement:
This is a sideblog. I have a lot of people blocked from my main blog, none of which are blocked from this blog. It's okay if you've been blocked from my main for you to reblog from this sideblog - I have genuinely thousands of people blocked, for reasons that are arcane and sometimes really stupid even to me, and if you behave in a rude or unpleasant manner I'll just block you from this blog when it comes up. Go nuts.
This blog contains quite a bit of adult-oriented art, all of which is both marked "mature" using Tumblr's content settings and tagged accordingly. Please browse at your own discretion, and remember to use filtering options where necessary.
In general, off-topic commentary in the reblogs, tags, and replies is totally fine and I like seeing what you guys have to say even when it's not directly about the art. That being said, please do not talk about either how much you hate the character in the art or think the art looks bad. "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything" is a good rule to live by, and also it's annoying and rude. Likewise, don't put discourse on my posts. I don't want to hear about it. If you have an opinion about the characters or art that is negative, feel free to make your own post! You can even add my art to it (with a link to this page) if you really want to talk about the art in particular.
Please repost my work only with credit (a link back to this page). Use of my art for avatars, header/sidebar banner images, edits, remixes, collages, and related is entirely okay as long as credit is given. My canon character redesigns are also completely free to use and no credit is required as long as you've done the actual drawing yourself. If you're using my art for something, I'd like to hear about it, but it's not required - it's just really flattering. Please do not remove my captions, however. Just make a repost.
If you want to print one of my pieces for personal use, feel free to reach out to me! I will happily re-color/re-balance the colors so that it will print nicely if I have the time, free of charge. If you want one of my pieces tattooed, go for it, consider this blanket permission. I'd be surprised and I'd love to hear about it, and also I have no qualms at all. Go for it.
Everything is okay to tag as kin/id/etc or claim as muse references. Have fun with it, I don't care. This goes for my ocs too, I really couldn't care less. However, if you disagree on characterization from what I've drawn, please don't tell me about it.
Obligatory "don't be bigoted." This is a racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, xenophobia, religious discrimination, and everything else-free zone. I'm not perfect, and therefore if I've created something that comes over wrong, you are more than welcome to voice your opinion on that, but please approach me in private first*, and message me on my main blog rather than the sideblog as I actually check that account.
Feel free to ask me to tag for more than I currently tag for- either for search reasons or to be able to more easily filter things. I may refuse to use certain tags at my discretion.

#closerverse - art for a personal original universe.

art navigation:
#background - art with a significant focus on the background or scenery. This may include photo overpaintings where the background is significantly relevant even if I didn't paint the background by hand.
#monochrome - art in monochrome - may include duochrome (two-color) work. This tag used to be "black and white" - older pieces may still be tagged with that instead.
#lineart - art that is just relatively clean lines
#doodle - unfinished art with a focus on round, smooth lines and cute shapes
#sketch - unfinished art with more jagged shapes and realistic proportions
#traditional media - art made in "real life", typically with some element of digital color or retouching anyway.
#3d - art that uses some element of 3d renders in it, either as part of a painting that was then painted over or as a whole 3d render without painted-on effects.
#photo overpainting - art where I saw a cool photo and painted something into it without repainting the entire photo from scratch, so large chunks were not made by me.
#animation - animated work (typically short looping gifs), stuff where the characters move
#animated effects - animated work where elements move, but the characters are static - flickering light effects, stuff like that.
#meme redraw - art made in the style of a meme. Sometimes this is entirely redrawn and sometimes it's a photo overpainting.
#gift art - art made for other people for free or with minimal direction
#commission - art made on commission with significant input from the client
#favorite - something I've done that I personally particularly like
*Why do this in private? There are a number of reasons: the first, and most relevant, that it means other people aren't going to randomly jump in and change the subject, so we can have an actual conversation rather than something that comes over more like a random accusation I may not fully understand out of the blue. Secondly, I have a solid handful of followers that I expect would probably defend me, and you don't need people jumping down your throat for "attacking" a person they like, especially if you're right but even if I think you're wrong. I also don't want to deal with that. Finally, I don't like being stuck between trying to understand more and feeling like I have to "save face" because the latter is bad for actually learning and growing as a person. I - of course - still do my best to learn in public, but without the pressure of a significant amount of outside observers it's easier for me to form an initial response and have a normal conversation. You can always take it public later, if you're convinced I've done something wrong and won't make amends. At that point I'm sure we're just going to be enemies so asking you not to is gonna go nowhere lmao. I take bigotry and my own biases seriously, but it's possible that after we discuss and I do some of my own research, we may come to different conclusions as to the relative problems with a certain depiction, discussion, or behavior. This is a normal part of socializing. Please give me the grace of holding a conversation with me first before jumping to getting on my case publicly. (If you're scared of reprisal, first of all, don't be because I don't like to do that, but secondly, you can just make a throwaway account to message me with. It's easy.)

I see so many posts like:
shout-out to regressors who don't like pastels, your regression is still valid!
Here's how to use filters and blocking to customise your feed

Handy links
Suggestions for how to use
When it won't work
Screenshots of how to filter in the mobile app
Blocking Users
Tag and Post Content Filtering
Here are some uses of tag or post content filtering:
Minors, age regressors and those who don't want to see it can hide adult content by filtering adult tags
Briefly to make browsing a particular tag or blog easier e.g. temporarily hiding the tag multi when looking for orange images
People with adult blogs can filter tags like "SFW interaction only", "agere" and "age regression" so it is easier to avoid interaction with minors and others who don't want to see that kind of content
Specific communities you don't want to interact with e.g. cglre, chire
Any topic you'd like to do a headspace check before viewing e.g. discourse
Triggers
"long post"
Anything you just don't vibe with e.g. horse plinko, pastel aesthetic, eye strain, flashing gifs
When this won't work:
Block a blog using your main blog to stop their content showing up in your searches. They can still follow your side blogs.
Some communities have "block lists" of blogs or tags that people may want to avoid. Sometimes a blog will request to be added to the list or will be added because of their DNI. Other times they will be added because of problematic behaviour, and could have upsetting explanations.
Posts missing tags - you can't filter what isn't there. Reblogs without tags are okay as long as the OP added tags.
Text images can't be filtered by the post content filter unless there is a written caption. DNI banners without captions are a good example of this.
If you filter the tag "pink", this won't affect a post tagged "pastel pink."
Post content filters sometimes filter out other topics by mistake
Use tag filters if you don't mind occasionally seeing some content that the filter missed. Use post content filters if you would rather have some innocent posts hidden than see that content.
Blocking works on a per blog basis. Blocking a blog won't prevent the person's other blogs from interacting. It also won't prevent them from interacting with another of your blogs.
Blocking will not remove existing posts from that blog. Some users choose to request via a respectful message that their reblogged post is removed from the blog. Do not send hate.

Hi, Jackie. Hope your doing well. I've been coming across many Destiel fanart videos on Tik Tok featuring a lot of your artwork--and not just yours, but many other creators' works, including creators that specifically state "Don't Repost My Work." A lot of these creators don't have a tik tok and can't prevent this happening. The artwork's been found on Pinterest, which is even worse. It's not okay and I'm not sure what I can do to prevent it happening. Any advice/help is appreciated ❤
I wish I had a good answer for you, but I don’t. Unfortunately it’s kind of the nature of the internet beast for this to happen. People see something they like--they share it. It’s not necessarily an act of disrespect or aggression, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt the artist.
Shared, reposted, and uncredited art creates an audience with no path back to the artist who made it. In this case, the artist never gets hits, reblogs, comments, asks, prints, commission requests, FEEDBACK, etc. and the audience doesn’t get more art/a way to support the artist who made the thing they loved so much.
If the artist doesn’t get work, it eventually leads to no new artwork. Or, at least, much much less of it as the artist is forced to look elsewhere for income and thus forfeit their creative time. It’s a bad situation, and none of us want that, right? Art is like a fresh centerpiece in an old room. You might love the room, but damn, that new rose bouquet really brings it alive again, doesn’t it?
I think the most effective thing we can do right now is to help POLITELY police our own community. Find reposted, uncredited art? Seek the source. Tell the artist where their art has been reposted. Ask around and see if you can find someone who knows. Tell the poster that they need to add credit. Encourage the community to interact with artist posts above reposts/edits/etc.
I mean, you all are my heroes when I get a tagged in comments on Instagram from people who’ve found some of my uncredited art, politely reminding the poster to add credit.
And, for the record since this ask is in my inbox and it’s getting published to my blog, I want to note that I’m not as strict as some artists. I love seeing tik tok compilations/other celebrations of my art and how you all relate to it. Your interaction with the thing I made GIVES ME LIFE. I only ask two things: 1. Always include credit, and 2. on Tumblr, please don’t repost. I bet you I have a post for that art already, and if you can’t find it, feel free to ask me. I’ll dig it up.
Actually, I lied, there’s one more thing: 3. DO NOT REMOVE MY CAPTIONS ON MY TUMBLR POSTS I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN ISTG (it doesn’t irk me at all...)
Anyway, BUT that doesn’t mean you should apply my philosophy to all other artists. Go to their blogs and see what their policies are. When in doubt, do not repost.
Be kind to each other and support each other.

No, you don't understand
It's 2021. Gay marriage has only been legal in the state of New York since 2011. 10 years.
So, legally, Holt and Kevin have only been married for 10 years.
And yet, Holt says Kevin has been his husband for 20 years. Because he considers him his husband for as long as they've been living together, no matter what the law says.
Excuse me while I die

shout out to Amphibia (and Adventure Time, too) for including subtitles when a character is speaking another language (Anne’s dad speaking Thai, Lady and Lee speaking Korean).
I wish more movies and TV shows did this, specially children’s media.
when I was little, I grew up on a country that mainly spoke Spanish, it was the only language I knew. but, then, I started watching My Little Pony in English with Spanish subtitles and that really helped me learn English. I started reading faster and faster and, eventually, I didn’t need the subtitles anymore.
whoever made those Youtube videos of the MLP episodes with the color coded subtitles is my fucking hero and I don’t even remember what channel it was.
I want English-speaking kids to have subtitles when a character speaks another language, it helps the story so much and removes the barrier between people.
I seriously hope that other children’s media follows suit. I want there to be subtitles when Camila Noceda speaks Spanish, when General Amaya speaks ASL (when The Dragon Prince comes back in 100 years).
I hate it when the captions just say “(Speaking Spanish)” instead of actually telling you what the characters are saying. how hard is it? “(Spanish) Don’t worry, everything will be okay!” “(Spanish) Nothing will work, unless I make it work!”. there, I did it.
TLDR; subtitles aren’t bad. most people can read and they don’t mind them. scrath that, they need them. if anyone doesn’t like subtitles, for whatever weird reason, they can just ignore them.

Shout out to Tía Pepa who:
1. Is a light skinned white passing latina in an animated movie made by yankees. Not a lot of light skinned white passing latinos in movies like these. The only other one I can think of is Angie Diaz (Marco's mom from Star vs the forces of evil).
2. She's 50 and she has a 5 year old son so the math tells me she got pregnant at 44, which is badass. Getting pregnant at all is badass but like, most women at 44 are going through menopause and shit.
3. Is just really funny and expressive and her design and everything, she's sooooooo cool.
4. Having just the best relationship with her husband. I love watching them dance during We Don't Talk About Bruno. (Also, Félix took her last name, which is just a YES)

Ladybug and Chat Noir successfully convince the rest of Paris (or at least, the ones that don’t know the truth) that they’re in a polyamorous quartet with Marinette and Adrien.
the magazines go nuts with Ladrienettechat speculation and they snap pictures of all of them. Adrien Agreste becomes a poly enby bi icon and the Agreste brand is more popular than ever. photographers scramble to catch a glympse of Maribug and Adrichat by themselves but they only find (photoshoped and edited by Nino) pictures and videos online.
reporters follow Adrienette around trying to get them to reveal the secret identities of their boyfriend and girlfriend. the ice cream dude is losing his shit.
Alya is dying.

hi!! i was wondering if its okay to remove your ids from reblogs off your tumblr? asking because i really don't want to offend you in any way, i quite enjoy reading your added text.
i mean....i won't block you for it or anything but i would very much prefer if you didn't. i'm glad you enjoy reading them, i guess, but if you're going to just delete the caption at least like, reblog it from the source or something so i don't have to see that you're actively deleting it

if you experience psychosis, all rats love and support you! people with psychosis aren’t dangerous, and they can’t hurt you. they are people struggling with a mental health problem, just like anyone else. if you have psychosis, you are loved and an important member of your community :)
[please don’t remove caption- click images to see a transcript, or check the ‘read more’ - reblogs okay]
The first image is of a fuzzy white rat covering their head with their arms. The bottom line reads; “people with psychosis shouldn’t have to hide - they’re positively perfect!” The second image is of a champagne hooded rat eating a small cookie. The top line reads; “Your intrusive thoughts are not your real thoughts.” The third image is of a black rat with a white nose hiding in a knitted tube. The top line reads; “Don’t mock people’s hallucinations”, and the bottom line reads “Their experiences are real.” The third image is of black rat and a white rat laying next to each other on a carpet. The top line reads; “People that experience psychosis deserve just as much support”, and the bottom line reads, “as non-psychotics.”
This is the end of the image descriptions.
