A Spirit Doctor's Top 5 Tips Before Swearing an Oath

It's been a while since I actively solicited for clients, so some of you may not know that I work as a spirit doctor. My specialty is oaths and agreements, and the making, breaking, and negotiating thereof.

Basically I'm a spiritual contract and divorce lawyer. You made an oath to an entity and now you regret it and you want to get out of it, you call me. I'll get you out of the oath with minimal damage - You might still have to make an offering once a year on a particular holy day, maybe you have to arrange for a new follower or two to balance out the loss of your worship (or maybe I'll take this one for you, depending on the situation, I have also been known to arrange matches), you get the point. But I also consult on oaths before they're sworn, so that you don't need my help to break it down the line. A friend of mine was recently preparing to swear an oath to an entity in their life and asked for my tips for Oath constructions, here's my Top 5*:

1) Write out your oath in some way, preferably before you swear it, so you have a document that you can amend: Being oath bound to an entity is kind of like like being married to someone, the relationship changes over time, so the rules of the relationship needs to change with it. But these relationship rules can be a little stricter than others, and it can be to keep track of these rules in our heads all of the time - do you give offerings on Wednesdays or Sundays? Was it wine or whiskey? If you've sworn to multiple entities this can get even harder. So I recommend keeping a written version of your oath that you can add and remove clauses from as your relationship grows and changes. I also think it's also kind of nice to have a record to look back on. It charts the growth and changes of your relationship over time - I think that's sweet.

2) Include specific rules for amending your oath: We covered that the rules of our relationships can change above, but because we're dealing with spirits it can be helpful to lay down some rules about how to change the rules of the relationship. How do you propose an amendment to the oath? Can you do it at any time or only on certain important days? Can either of you propose amendments? Is there veto power? stuff like that. The answers to those sorts of questions will vary with each relationship, but I always feel like it's better to know the answers and not need them than it is to need them and not know.

3) Have a One Year Trial Clause - especially if it's your first oath, or if you haven't been in some sort of close relationship with the entity for several years before swearing your oath. I always feel like it's a good idea to write your oath in such a way that the first year is basically a trial period, with a re-dedication at the end of the first year to make the oath fully binding. Think of it like dating before you get married, or a 3 month trial period at a new job. It just give you a some time to adapt to the new situation, to any new taboos or expectations there might be, and then a comfortable "no hard feelings" out if you don't like it.

4) Include a "break glass in case of emergency" way out of your oath. The One Year Trial covers adjusting to being in the oath, but this is for later. In case you're ten years down the line and you realize for whatever reason that you don't want to be bound to this entity anymore, or you're life has totally changed and you're done with this. It will prevent you from needing to find and employ someone like me to break the oath for you. Some examples include: - You will always wear a piece of devotional jewelry and will not willingly take it off. Intentionally and willingly taking it off constitutes the end of the oath - You could make a spirit house or vessel. Intentionally and willingly dismantling or destroying it would constitute the end of the oath. - If you want to go hard you could get a tattoo. Getting it removed or covered up wold constitute the end of the oath.

5) Finally detail your roles, responsibility, and boundaries: This is the "contract" part of the oath and would make up the bulk of any written document you keep. Think of this like a job contract with the entity. Lay out exactly what you will do for them as part of your oath, what you will abstain from doing, etc. And then what you expect in return, are they helping you raise power, learn magic, etc. I recommend being clear, concise, and specific, but you can be mystical, or worshipful, as long as you know where the boundaries are and what the expectations are. You don't want to write a blank check and then be expected to cash it and not know how. Some suggestions for what you could include here: - Establish now how other entities effect your relationship: Is there a hierarchy/priority? Are there any taboos or limits? Can you make oaths to other entities? etc. - Establish clear tasks that the entity expects from you: Are you expected to make offerings on a specific schedule? Are expected to learn a specific magical skill (ex. I was expected to learn how to guide spirits from our world to the Otherworld and then across it as part of my oath to Brona.) Are there specific tasks you're supposed to do with said magical skills (distinguishing my work as A Psychopomp from my learning how to be a guide above.) - Establish what you're getting from the Entity: Are personally they teaching you the skill they want you to learn? Are they introducing you to a different entity that teach you said skill? Are they providing the means and knowledge to grow your reservoir of power? Are they providing a familiar? If your expected to do something, what do you get in return - Establish things the entity can't do: They can't interfere with your relationship with another entity. They can't interrupt your sleep, or damage your mental health. Any sphere of your life that you want to try and limit the entity's influence on - spell it out. This is never 100%, you feel the effects of this bond like this in all aspects of your life in some way, but you can try to minimize the effects by drawing boundaries. - Establish anything you won't do for the entity: Refuse to do blood magic or sacrifices lay that out. Refuse to fast, lay it out. Get as specific and detailed as you can, but also include a general "Right to refuse" phrasing as well. The specifics are to protect you from being asked. Note*: You guys might this this advice is all very cynical, and I wholeheartedly agree. I admit that I'm jaded. Asking me for advice before you take an oath is like asking a divorce lawyer for advice before you get married… buuuuuuuut I'm a divorce lawyer who's been happily married for 14 years. So I do think there's some method to my madness. I hope my advice help my buddy out, and I hope it helps you fine folks too. FoF rewatch ep 3: or, Gone sleuthing (gifs and loose thoughts)

Before we begin, let's take a second to appreciate our beautiful elven boy and his (absolutely adorable) tiny bright blue horns hair clips (while he's roasting ZYZ for being sarcastic at the prospect of the rest of the squad losing their heads in 5 days' time... that's why you never sign a binding document in blanco, folks!):

Overall, knowing how the story progressed, ep 3 is the last one where humor definitely outweighed the angst, and any hints for our characters' backstories were merely sketches. We get a lot of running around collecting clues, with Bai Jiu being the main comic relief, the girls not far behind, and everyone roasting the hell out of ZYZ while he only sometimes nips back, pretty jovially, and mainly at ZYC.

Right in the middle of the sleuthing shenanigans, we have a beautiful conversation about dreams, human nature, how everyone wishes for something, how everyone has something they want to escape from. We get a mention of the Truth Eye, together with a blink-and-you'll-miss-it wistful look from ZYZ that makes so much sense later.

We find out that ZYC doesn't dream; in WX's memory, we hear ZYC's explanation of why he fears to dream, and for the umpteenth time on this rewatch, I went (say it with me), foreshadowingggg!

Aaaaaand we get introduced to our sexy possessive demon, though we have no clue who the heck he is at this point, only that he knows ZYZ and is clearly uhhhh conflicted about him.

Also holy shit but only now on the rewatch did I realize what the illusion Ran Yi tried to use on ZYZ was - and why ZYZ was so freaked out... (all together now: foreshadowing!!!! I swear if I took a shot each time I say it while rewatching I'd put myself in a goddamn coma.)

Huh, Ran Yi thought ZYZ had the Truth Eye... on the first watch we still don't quite know what that is, only that it helps to see through the illusions, so it would make sense that ZYZ has it. Rewatching, and knowing that he doesn't, *and* what happened to it... makes for a nice little circle going back to LL's introduction.

Speaking of the devil, the possessive demon is gonna possess (*and* also look good while at it):

ZYZ flashing back to the younger, softer LL just as he half shields WX from what he knows is a completely different animal *now*, is absolutely not hitting me in any feels, nope:

(There's also something to be said about the fact that ZYZ is not surprised by LL possessing some (not so) random dude, so even on the first watch we're bound to assume that it happened before and ZYZ is not a fan. We don't get to see any of those instances, but one sentence from ZYZ is enough.)

WX immediately recognizes LL's name but still thinks it was him who killed her shifu, simply because being tossed aside like a rag doll by him is the last thing she remembers from that day...

I was close to screeching at my screen when he activated the true seeing in her, and not only is he ::gestures at the whole of him:: but then she looks to the side and ZYZ looks like *that*, and the effect is still not lost on me on the second viewing:

They made sure to end almost every ep with a well timed cliffhanger, but since we don't have to worry about that anymore, on to ep 4!

the person on the other end of the line pauses.

“a person-“

“yes, a worker for the venue or a manager, just someone affiliated with it who can be there as we arrive and be waiting at the door.”

“…I did notice that in your rider, but I want to assure you that someone will be there just… as standard.”

Stellar pinches the bridge of their nose, looking up into the dim lighting of the office. Master Perpetua liked it that way, but it meant they spent most of their time squinting at the fine press on contracts or struggling to read the ingredients on a bag of chips.

“it’s in the rider because we want to be extra, double sure, that we’re met by someone affiliated with the venue.”

“you will be, I promise.”

They sound rather put-off by the whole conversation, as if Stellar was asking them for something completely unreasonable. or perhaps they were just surprised at the vehemence in the ghoul’s words, the insistence on it being someone who worked for the venue.

“if we get there and it’s an intern who’s only worked there for a few days, there’s going to be a problem.”

“I understand that, mx.”

“good. thank you very much for indulging me for the moment, and we look forward to getting there. have a good night.”

they hang up the phone before the venue manager on the other end can question them any further.

it was the little things that had to be dealt with, when your master was a vampire. Stellar needed to ensure there was a steady supply of blood-packs for him, or at least a willing fan who’d filled out the liability waiver and signed the dark-magic-binding NDA. they needed to add an allergy to garlic to every rider they sent out.

and they needed to be sure there was someone there to welcome Perpetua into the venue who had the authority to do so. they’d started doing the phone calls beforehand when it had been a stagehand who had no authority one-too-many times, leaving Papa stranded until a manager could be found.

Stellar didn’t care if they were being annoying by tracking down every letter in the rider to make sure it was done- it was all the little things that needed to be dealt with that could add up.

“this would be easier if you were a werewolf,” they murmur to their master and he laughs at his desk, tilting his head to the side as he regards the ghoul sitting nearby.

they’d only recently started taking chances on telling him jokes, too used to having to be serious and formal with their Papas, and the change was… nice. it was nice to not have to mind their words so much around him.

“if I was a werewolf, you’d have to feed me raw meat.”

Stellar shrugs.

“what do you think ghouls eat in the Pit, caviar and champagne?”

Perpetua looks thoughtfully at them for a moment before he matches their motion, drumming his fingers on the table.

“…you’ve got me there, I suppose."

Some more PM thoughts cause they’re rattling round my brain at hyper speed now that people know about them

PM! Ford and Canon Bill would fucking destroy the universe fighting each other. Battle of two giant egos. There would be homosexual overtones of course, but they both have a craving for power and enough power to leave a trail of destruction anywhere they interacted

Canon Ford would be very weirded out and like? Not scared but primal instinct of wrong about PM!Bill, who is nice to him off the bat. c!Ford would bring up weirdmaggedon and trickery and PM!Bill would just be like “oh yeah. I was gonna do that, but I’ve honestly had a lot of fun with my Ford just traveling dimensions and helping him research. I may get back to that eventually” and c!Ford is dumbstruck and suffering from emotional whiplash. Eventually neither of them would really talk to each other and sit in silence.

c!Bill thinks PM!Bill is pathetic and a failure, and by his standards, he is technically right in both of those opinions. PM!Bill thinks c!Bill is an idiot for sabotaging the one good thing he had, but is very light around the topic. It’s very c!Bill as a kind of annoyed as fuck third wheel. He holds a lot of hate for both PM!Bill and PM!Ford, mainly hating the latter for not being the Ford of his universe, as he loves the violence and lust for power PM!Ford holds (he’d never admit it out loud though).

c!Ford is convinced PM!Ford is possessed by Bill somehow. Convinced there’s no way any route could lead to him acting like that, or be that successful. Basically 100% sure that PM!Ford sold his soul in a deal with Bill and being soulless is why he’s like that.

PM!Ford and PM!Bill have a lot of deals laid out, most of which are for Ford’s benefit and a few at Bill’s deficit (but he’s too in love to realize that). They are technically married, moreso in the legal contract sense than a ceremonial sense. Ford spurred this on, getting Bill enamored with the idea of them being together forever and explaining the human tradition of marriage in a mostly accurate way. They have matching rings, gold with a triangle surrounding a circular gem (probably something rarer than diamonds that they found while traveling) and Bill’s acts as a binding magical artifact while Ford’s is entirely mundane. Bill is unaware of the effects of his ring, and probably wouldn’t take it off knowing them (y’all don’t get to know yet sorry).

Ford can defend himself pretty well due to his tech as well as some physical enhancements from deals with Bill, so he does go on solo missions without Bill, especially if it’s to keep Bill in his loyal arsenal. A few characters try to join them, and they even have a run in with the axolotl (who is mainly concerned for Bill and despises Ford), but Bill and Ford are a very exclusive duo and the intentionally created co-dependency means no one travels with them for long. There is a point where they run into Fiddleford for reasons it’s….. gonna be fun to write and draw let’s just say that.

Ford does come back through the portal after 30 years, mainly because through Bill’s surveillance, he’s been gaining interest in this generation of pines twins, especially Dipper’s potential as a researcher.

Sorry if you answered this already but what are your initial thoughts on Shinigami and her relationship with Yuma? On hand I actually really like her and her relationship with yuma but on the other hand I feel like there should have moments within the game where they could sit down and actually talk to each other which doesn't happen despite the fact they're supposed to be partners.

Like you would think Yuma would ask questions about shinigami herself since she is a death god but I don't think that ever happened if I'm misremembering.

Also would you deem shinigami as evil?

Like most of my thoughts about the character dynamics in Rain Code, I always wish for more. Shinigami and Yuma were attached at the hip for the entire game, but sadly there never was much time for the two to settle down and have more personal talks between one another to try to understand each other better, or at least Yuma learning more about Shinigami. Allowing for just one or two moments of brevity for them to interact one-on-one without the plot shoving them along would be ideal. It would make the player feel a lot more inclined to care about Shinigami's bittersweet farewell. There are definitely existing reasons for why she blatantly insults women, such as fits of jealousy when she's confined in a book for hundreds to thousands of years and being in a contract isn't much better since she's at the whims of the master and can't explore the world on her own terms. She's a bird in a cage. So letting Yuma question her jealousy sometime during chapter 3 (preferably at the end of the mystery labyrinth so she could own up to her rude behavior and apologize to Fubuki and they could kiss) would've been a nice touch to get to see a more vulnerable side of her, even if she tries to deny her feelings through sheer stubbornness. Chapter 5 would also have some opportunities to slip in more personal small talk since the two are left alone with a wandering Kurumi in a death-defying scenario. Perhaps we could've seen more of her morals about immortality and the natural order of death, putting her role as a death god into focus.

Shinigami is far from evil; no way Jose! I honestly think she's a pretty darn good interpretation of death as a concept. She is brutal, doesn't care much for mysteries, and wants to get straight to doing her job of reaping souls. Yet she is also merciful. She has the capacity to care and feel sorry for the ones undeserving of their untimely demises. She grants peaceful ends with gentle hugs, letting them cry into her arms as they fade. Death is a balance of justice and mercy. Death can be the wisp of smoke slithering out of a freshly fired gun, or the absence of sound as the heart beats no more.

I'm hoping that if there ever is a sequel to Rain Code that features Shinigami, I'd love if the ending was about setting her free. We may not know now if her binding to the Book Of Death can't be undone, but if there's any chance it can be, that's a choice I wouldn't hesitate to make. No longer would she be used as a tool. She'd get to truly live as a god, unchained. She'd finally be able to watch over any soul she'd like, though of course she'd play favorites. She'd be waiting for Yuma so she could be the first to tease him when he reaches the other side.

Hello! It is going, albeit slowly. We're almost at 5k words for chapter 8's script! Here's a tiny out of context snippet for you guys here on Tumblr:

I have two scenes left to script, but the last one is a doozy. Then I have to go over the whole script again and edit it to be like, actually good? Then I'll get some pals to beta-read it for me. THEN it will be time for thumbnails, and THEN I will be able to start making pages again!

I'm unfortunately not able to devote as much time to BACKLASH right now as I used to, since I'm also working on MURDER CLUB and that one's a legally binding contract, lol. It has to take priority! But I think both will be really good once I can share them! <3

A short, (uhm, mostly) cute and fluffy prompt piece for Part II of Plots & Prosody. Part II begins post-BG3 events wherein Evie begins making a life for herself in Baldur's Gate, and Raphael is making good on his plans to conquer unite the Hells...while also trying to court her (of which she is completely oblivious).

This will probably be absorbed into Prosody in some form in the future when I get to the appropriate place officially, but for now, it will live on Tumblr. :)

“A gift, my dear,” Raphael declared as he held out a book - a journal - to her, “to commemorate the transition to a new chapter of your life.”

Wide-eyed, Evie accepted it and ran her hands over the soft, reinforced, black leather cover.  It was embossed with her name in a golden script between a trio of tiny, glimmering gemstones arranged into a fanned shape with golden scrolling.

It was the first thing he’d given her without the expectation of receiving something in return.  She almost questioned it, though he had deliberately used the word ‘gift.’

“Oh, gosh, this feels almost too nice to use!” she exclaimed as she paged it open.  High-quality binding, pages that were thick enough that ink wasn’t going to simply bleed through them.  

He smiled smugly as she lifted it to her nose and inhaled the delicious smell of new leather and paper.  And not muck and mildew like her current one...

“Are these…opals?” she asked in awe.

Raphael nodded with a gesture, his eyes flicking between her ears.  “I couldn’t help but notice that you appear to have a preference for the gem.”  He then frowned, his brow raising in question.  “If that is incorrect, I can have another placed instead.”

Evie shook her head emphatically.  “No, no!  It’s one of my favorites.”  She self-consciously brushed a hand over her ear realising that she did wear a number of them, even if they were small and minimalistic.

“The journal is enchanted to repel the grime and spills of daily happenstance,” he informed her knowingly.

“Easier to be careful when you’re not travelling and living out in the wilds for months,” she justified as she fought back a blush of embarrassment.  “But thank you, I very much appreciate the consideration!”

“Ah!  Not to be forgotten, there is something else.”  His fingers rose to snap and a small, oblong box dropped into his hand that he also passed to her.  “I have seen that you are making strides in your endeavor to render quills obsolete, though in the meanwhile, I thought a fresh plume was warranted.  This one will take dictation.”

Slipping the journal into the crook of her arm, she carefully lifted the lid off the box.  Inside was cushioned a fine, white quill with a pearlescent sheen that reminded her of the opals.  She was mesmerized by how stunning it was and knew, again, that she would be hesitant to use something so nice.  

And she could use it for dictation?

“Oh, wow…  You really didn’t have to!”  The thoughtfulness that went into it genuinely touched her.

Today marked the first day of fulfilling her side of their contract - in exchange for the Orphic hammer, she had agreed to spending a minimum of six full days with him every month, for a period of two years.  It was really just more or less a continuance of their meetings from before…in contract form.  An easy thing to agree to, all things considered at the time.  And he still got his Crown, so almost everyone was happy in the end.

Though, from even before then, it had increasingly felt like Raphael was afraid of the possibility of losing her presence in his life since she repeatedly refused to sign over her soul to him.  He clearly saw her time as at least equal in value to the hammer.  It was cute, in a ‘contractually mandated friendship’ kind of way.

Raphael would probably, absolutely never admit it, but it was clear as day to her that the human part of the devil needed real affection and affirmation.  And so, she would gladly help to fill that need.

“May I hug you?” she slyly asked with a grin.

While he looked mildly surprised for all of half a second, he removed his hand from his hip and held his arms out.

She excitedly bounded forward to wrap her arms around him and felt him mirror her.  “I do love them, thank you.”

“Think nothing of it, my dear,” he smoothly replied with a chuckle.  “I am merely happy to see that you are pleased with them and in knowing that they will assuredly be put to excellent use.”

He couldn’t fool her.  Raphael might have been cool as a cucumber on the outside, but his heart was now beating up an awful racket in his chest.  She bit her lip to keep from giggling.

As he returned the fox’s silly, giddy embrace, Raphael eyed the gifted journal’s twin - where within her ink would be duplicated - nestled surreptitiously between other books upon the shelves nearest his desk.

Over halfway done with 5e. Not going to let WotC put a permanently unfinished series on my page, so this has turned more into a last walk to get my character ideas and design thoughts out before moving on. Btw I AM still making monsters, they're just going to be part of larger encounter videos like the last one. If you want to see a particular monster used or have some variant of it made, I'm open to suggestions!

Paladins are hard for me just because I HATE what they've done with oaths. What they did was remove alignment from the game, then basically give paladins thier own mini-alignment without any nuance. but with fewer and worse words. "You don't have to be lawful good we swear! you just have to follow this strict set of laws that're usually good or lose your power, and all flavor text will insist you're good!" Oddly enough, that is FAR more rigid than anything they were trying to replace, because you're bound to 3 specific rules instead of the tone of a god you chose. But whatever, WotC's solution to paladin alignment was just haphazardly ripping out random chunks of the problem, who would've guessed. My solution to this is to just make PERSONAL oaths. You make your character, and you make ironclad ideals that they strive for. ones that fit with whatever you've flavored the subclass as of course. and then have THOSE dictate your course. That little bit of nuance is a good compromise if we're going the self-made laws middleground.

Personally I think the paladin needs at least SOME law to follow. They literally get thier power by following a moral code, be it thier own or someone else's, so strongly that they manifest power. Or they operate like a warlock with a less binding contract. But I actually love adding narrative weight to mechanics. It gives the choices MEANING. Here's an example- Once we were stuck, an orcish army approaching but our concerns more focused on the lich nearby. As long as he and his necromancers lived, we lost no matter how the war went. Sadly I had spread bubonic plague through the black market slavers, and in doing so accidentally killed all the DM's info brokers and ways for us to find them. When he offered us someone who could speak to the gods, he mentioned that the closer the god was to this case the more info they'd have. We knew we had to butter him up though. but our group had a paladin, monk, druid, and cleric. this wasn't going to be easy. We made the decision to...ask the paladin to leave. Those of us remaining did something horrific in the eyes of the gods. We tricked people into cannabalism of a diseased corpse of someone they knew, while drunkenly cheering orcus's name. We got the info, but there was a cost. As a druid, I only had to argue partial neutrality. As this action was horrible but ultimately to prevent the collapse of the kingdom, I was able to argue I was not Chaotic Evil, merely neutral evil. The paladin escaped judgement. The monk had to go on a journey of self reflection to regain neutrality.

The cleric had to argue his case before the gods that this was the only way to prevent a greater evil. He eventually was bound in service to the king for repentance, but power restored. For all its faults, THAT is what alignment being bound to a class can do. That wouldn't have had the weight if it was just his standing amongst the local church. He was arguing for his soul and his class levels, narrative and mechanical stakes together. I see the oaths as a half-way point to that, but with far less narrative value and far too rigid in being 3 specific rules for the whole subclass. It's a worst of both worlds. but I think at least picking the rules you're sworn to is a nice patch to all that.

Just that whenever you're asking something, know that I am giving my opinion based on my worldview. It's not meant to correct or counter other's worldviews :)

And also you and the character of Arnav are coming from very, very different worlds and mindset.

There's no right way to be or perceive relationships. Just as long as everyone is respectful to all types of relationships and doesn't put any one perspective higher/lower than the other's - it's all fine.

Because he wanted to. It's nice to have a chat, have a social life, hang out with someone you like. Many people seek different types of relationships for different reasons.

There is a world of a difference between a marriage and a live in relationship. I think the misunderstanding that exists is that live in relationship means there's no accountability. That is wrong.

Marriage is a legal and financially binding contract that brings in societal pressures and expectations of religiosity and children (keeping Arnav's family in consideration). And live in, in many countries, is recognized as a form of partnership which has laws to protect the people in it.

Arnav has more freedom and wants less family interference in his relationships - and we see why. Marriage is a big deal - there's just a lot of finance, stakes, legals involved.

It is a headache to deal with all of this.

And for him, marriage is tied to the concept of eternal love. Anjali, his mother, Khushi - all believe in it. Arnav does not. He believes his sister is lucky. He believes his mother made a mistake. He believes Khushi is ridiculous.

So no, if eternal love is a part of marriage he has no interest in it.

But it doesn't mean that he wouldn't seek good companionship. That does not exist in marriage alone.

Also marriage is viewed as an ultimatum. It's one of the things he asks Akash - if he is sure about this decision, if he won't ever regret the decision he's making. Arnav is aware of the fact that he can't tell a woman upfront if he wants to spend the rest of his life with her.

And no, that doesn't mean he wants to philander around, but that's reality. You don't know if you want something forever. Life has its own sense of unpredictable-ness.

Also he and Lavanya were dating for just five months. And he was being forced about marriage by his grandmother (who was in a hunt to find a woman who would box Arnav into an ideal religious morally good boy, as opposed to finding a woman that Arnav would actually be compatible with) - that itself would turn anyone off marriage.

Arnav was quite calm, and in fact contemplative - not outright rejecting - the idea of marriage when his family was off his back and Nani just gently teased him about Khushi getting married.

Arnav didn't want to bring lavanya home till shyam suggested it. And in one episode, he said to lavanya that they had decided they would stay together but would not marry. If the end goal was live-in, Why did he need to be so sure before bringing her home ?

Bringing your girlfriend home is a huge thing. Again, they're barely dating for five months. Shyam just offers an alternative to prevent Arnav leaving the home and get Nani off Arnav's back.

So Shyam is kind of lying to both Arnav and Nani to build a non existent bridge between them. Arnav is not told about the fact that Lavanya is being viewed as the future wife - which causes tensions throughout the rest of the episodes (which is why he's constantly flipping off at his family when he realizes he's kinda been trapped for his family to groom his girlfriend into a domesticated wife role - and he doesn't have a way out because it hurts his sister).

And Nani is lied to that Lavanya's role here is to be moulded into being a Raizada bahu (there's no attempt ever made to make her understand that Lavanya is Chotte's girlfriend and she should respect Lavanya for who she is - it's something Nani later feels guilty about, that she was the reason why things didn't work out because she really forced the way this relationship should be).

Marriage is treated with an 'end goal' mentality by the way. Live in is not. It's literally just companionship. No one sits and decides with a paper and pen that they're living in. But marriage IS treated that way. Families get together and go - okay, live together.

Live in is a decision that a dating couple takes to be with each other (the social responsibilities start becoming closer to that of a marriage over time).

Your understanding of things and the understanding of a character like Arnav's are wildly different.

You won't be able to step into his shoes. He's cheating Lavanya. That's the ugly truth of it.

Why Arnav feels sexually attracted to Khushi? There are many valid theories for lust - Khushi's is easier. He's hot, unattainable and very powerful and mysterious. It's always sexy. It's always a fantasy.

Khushi fits into his type and he and Khushi are destined to fall into love.

He knows Khushi is pretty, he is very angry, he realizes she's stunning (when not in skin tight ugly salwar kameez and oiled hair) and there's just something that you can never point out at.

One can study, but never ever actually pinpoint why.

Arnav doesn't know why.

And to be honest, neither do we.

Writing: Love is stored in the olive jar (WT) - Chapter 13

It's done, but still needs a lot of editing, as it got very heavy on dialogue in the end and I want it all to flow more nicely and make it a bit more scenic XD Too many instances of "she looked up again" or "he paused for a moment/second" xD But I'm getting there! Here's a snippet from the already somewhat polished beginning:

“Alright,” Fuentes said as she finally caught her breath again, “I suggest we cut straight to the chase.” “Yes,” V nodded, “Thank you again for taking the time.” “Of course,” Fuentes nodded, “I have to admit, I have been thinking about you and your case a lot these past days. Even with the limited knowledge I have so far, I still believe I may be able to help. If you are willing now to tell me more about your condition now, of course.” ‘Willing’ wasn’t the word V would use, it was more a necessity at this point. “I will,” he said, “But only if you can provide me with a certain level of security.” Fuentes shifted in her chair slightly and frowned, then she opened one of the drawers of her desk and pulled out a tablet. She turned it on and began to search for something on it while maintaining eye contact with V as best as she managed. “You’ve come here today as my patient. As far as I’m concerned, everything, anything that we discuss, falls under the doctor-patient confidentiality. My contract with the Little China MedCenter binds me to treat your data and information with utmost care and discretion. All data we store is locked away securely, all in accordance with your Trauma Team policy. I can resend you the patient information papers and contracts, although I think most of them you should already have…” “I care less about the MedCenter than about what you personally do with the information I’m going to give you,” V said, and Fuentes stopped her search, narrowing her eyes slightly. “I’m not sure what you’re alluding to,” she said, still polite, but significantly more tense than before. “Nothing,” V shook his head carefully, “This is just not something I tell random strangers on the street… no offense, of course. If I have to play with open cards, I need you to as well.”

So l applied for a job as an English teacher (where I live it's taught as a second language) and my experience teaching is for like kids 10 and older, and this is for preschool, kids aged 2-5. So I never thought the would call me, because I was honest and told them l've never taught children that age, but they did and the problem is they gave me less than 24hrs to prepare for a class (they didn’t even give me the topics). And they're asking for pp presentation, didactic material ... And I just had to say no, they knew I didn’t have experience with children that young and I obviously don't have adequate didactic materials to bring for the children.

Yet I kinda feel bad and guilty for not having a job, and I can't help but think that maybe I'm the problem, I've been looking for a job for months and this isn’t even my university major. In my area they ask for like 3-5 years of experience, and this is for “people that just graduated” the salaries are minimum or barely above the minimum, they just don’t match the years of experience they’re asking for.

People they just don’t want to hire you to gain experience, I know you’re supposed to gain some with internships but I had at least half of my university time online because of the pandemic, some of my classmates even had online internships. And some jobs they outright tell you that they’re asking for “real experience” so those don’t count. Then if someone hires you they hold it over you, they expect you to leave everything behind and give 100% to the job, as in working and insane amount hours, at crazy times, if they’re generous they pay you the minimum but most of the time they have you there as an unofficial intern that it’s extremely lucky to receive some financial compensation; I mean who would’ve thought that we have to eat and try to survive week after week.

Honestly most days have become this despairing experience and this feeling in my chest and stomach just doesn’t go away.

Im sorry for this very long and sad anon message, it’s just that I’ve seen some anons leaving you similar comments. And you sound like a very mature wise person, I love that you talk about a lot of things 💖

First off, I'm flattered that I am seen as a good place for the younguns to come ask for sympathy and/or advice (I am a good internet grandma, etc). So yes, I shall give you hot cocoa and a nice spot to sit down and chat, metaphorically speaking.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but just so you know and/or hear it again: you're not alone, tons of young people are in the same boat, and it isn't your fault that we live in late-stage capitalism and the job market simultaneously wants 3-5 years of experience for an entry level job and pays you literal shit (but also wants you to somehow spend enough money all the time to keep the economy afloat, NO WAGE ONLY SPEND). Especially when Covid upended everything and now people want to discount online learning/work experience when there was literally no other option. It is a big bucket of crap all around, and while it can absolutely feel like a negative reflection on you personally, or that you're not good enough or not trying hard enough or not open enough to doing things completely out of your comfort zone because you have no other choice, it's not. There are tons of people who really WANT to be employed and have a steady job and at least enough to cover their basic necessities, but due to late-stage capitalism, it's just very hard. You are not the only one and this is not a personal character flaw or failing on your part.

You should not have to take a job you are completely uncomfortable with, especially when they give you literally zero chance to prepare adequately and don't give you any resources or time to support that transition (they'll begin as they mean to go on, etc). And likewise, I want to note that your university major/degree is not a binding contract that you can only work in that field, that you're a failure if you don't get a job in that field, and you have to look in that field first and foremost. Plenty of people do one thing in college and something totally different in their career, and it's okay if that happens, or if you have to work outside your college major for a while or even for the rest of your professional life. So as far as that part goes, I definitely don't think you need to feel any guilt about looking wherever you can, since as you note, the competition is hard for everybody and there's just not enough to go around (by design, since capitalism runs on manufactured scarcity). Once again: not your fault, you're not a failure, and you're doing your best. That is worth a lot.

I know that it sounds trite to say keep your chin up, but keep your chin up. When it comes to teaching ESL, it might be possible to freelance, to offer sessions virtually or over Zoom, advertise among your family and friends, etc., or other bit-part things to tide you over until you find a job (and take it from me, sheer bullheaded stubbornness is half the battle). There are also online tutoring sites and agencies such as Tutora (which I briefly taught for as a broke PhD student) or Study.com that can match you with remote/online work opportunities and get you some clients, rather than you having to do all the work to find and recruit them by yourself. This obviously won't take the place of an actual job, but it might help you patch some cracks and string together some income until you can find one.

Essentially the only things that are discussed and even remotely binding are of or relating to: food, clothing, shelter, and a non disclosure stating he will not reveal the locations of any private, Mann Co. related properties he has been to.”

She sighs, an audible snap of the binder closing clear in the recording.

“I have no idea how or when this child got here, but I believe it is safe to say he is not leaving anytime soon. What does he even do when the mercenaries go to fight?”

A brief, incoherent murmur can be heard in the background, seemingly providing an answer to the question.

I've thought about enlisting but that's just such a big decision and I have no one around me to ask what it's like. Also, the fact that my country's military is quite small so the bigger countries we have alliances with practically control it all - and a good portion of them isn't exactly on the side of good morals. It's a whole entire thing, but I don't have a lot of time to decide if this is something I truly want for myself and I have no one to go to for advice. So, if you'd keep us updated on the process, I'd appreciate it very much - and I'm sure others would too - if that's not too much to ask, of course.

I got out of the meeting a little while ago (probably posting this later I have work) and it was good! I went in and we talked about pay rates, traveling, etc. I filled out some forms (at least in the states, you will never sign a legally binding contract until MEPS) such as medical release forms and confidentiality forms. I took my practice ASVAB (basically a test to see what jobs you could do) and I got a 54. The ASVAB score is a percentage, so my 54 is technically a “I scored better than 54% of folks who take the test”. I definitely want to study a little to see if I can score a higher score. 54 is pretty average at least, so i feel good about that!

my recruiter wants me to really think hard about this decision over the weekend, to make sure i wanna enlist. i’m sure i want to, but i’m taking the weekend to see if there’s any other rates i want besides hospital corpsman. i scored high enough on the practice ASVAB to be a corpsman, but it ultimately depends on the actual score i will get.

my recruiter is a very nice man! i will let you know that your recruiter will dig into your life. i had to provide 3 folks for a character reference, give up medical history, etc. ofc it might be different as you said your country is smaller than mine.

My Critics about Hazbin Hotel

I'm actually not a fan of cartoons and senseless violence. But Hazbin Hotel was thrown into my timeline with the song “Addict”. The first thing that caught my eye was the color combinations, which I found absolutely unique about this animation style. I also liked the Angeldust twist. On the one hand the super erotic stripper, on the other hand the victim of his pimp. This made me want to look at the plot. And what should I say? I fell in love with the characters. I particularly liked Alastor. Since the series didn't continue for a long time, I watched Helluva Boss and also thought this series was good. 1. From SA to an Rapefetisch(?): The series is criticized for sexualizing Valentino's abusive behavior and the fact that he rapes Angeldust or has him raped. I must say. I am rather ambivalent about this criticism. I remind you again of “Addict”. Angeldust is seen dancing erotically on a pole, while sequences are shown in which he is seen suffering in his bed and Cherry comes to comfort him. You see Valentino force a kiss on him at the end and drive away with him. Basically it doesn't matter whether Raph or Ralph (?) drew a rape comic, which Vivziepop used for her series. Because what happens in episode four is nothing like what happens in "Addict." This interplay of relationship-eroticism and abuse-rape can also be found in the voice messages that Valentino sends Angel. In this way, Valentino continues to bind Angel to him, even without a contract. On the other hand, I can understand that fans are still upset by this. I mean, there is sexual tension between Valentino and Angel Dust. The way Valentino blows the smoke in Angel's face or the way Angel dances on the chains... Then you see them in bed together. Between the scenes in which you see Angel suffering, you also see scenes that could ensure that Val's behavior could be put in a positive light. Maybe Viv should pay a little more attention to this in her production. 2. The old Cast is gone: What made me very sad was that the old voices of our favorite characters weren't used at all. As far as I know, it was because of an argument between Vivziepop and Ashley. Erin, a Spindlehorse team member, revealed a WhatsApp history by messaging Ashley about her mental health during production and Vivziepop seemingly saw it as an attack. Others say Vivziepop learned something unpleasant about Ashley and gossiped about it to others. Whatever it was, the voice actors were dragged into the dispute and fired, among other things, because they were friends with Ashley. I don't know if that's true now. If so, then Viv has a nice place in hell. In any case, I'm a little sad for the old voice actors because I find it unusual to hear the characters now have different voices. I wish Viv had kept the old team. 3. The Main-Characters seem to be Mary Sues: The headline is a little exaggerated. But I had to roll my eyes at some points. Husker is said to have been an overlord. Why? How important is it to the plot that Husk was an overlord? So that he is particularly strong? I liked him as a player who gambled away his soul to Alastor. It hardly makes any sense since we were told by Vaggie in the prologue that Alastor has already killed overlords. So why spare Husk? A fan theory has come true. Vaggie is an angel. *Head greets tabletop* If she knows about Alastor and what he did, I'm guessing she'll be in hell for longer than 10 years. If not, it doesn't matter. She speaks Spanish, likes to swear and as background information we know that she was in an abusive relationship with a man. This had such an impact on her that she became a lesbian, because of it. She also takes the people from the hotel to a gun fight and has them fight there... She's definitely an angel. *irony off* To me it would have been more logical if she had killed her violent boyfriend as a human and ended up in hell because of it. But no. She must be an OP angel. I then wonder what Niffty is. Probably God. lol (Part 2)
