Jennifer, I'm hearing from creators that some publishers either are or will require authors to disclose if they used AI in any way to write their book. Even brainstorming. Is there any truth to this?

I use AI to help me plot out my stories (I'm Horrible at plotting, honestly) and to help me battle writers block. Not to generate my stories!

will people look down on me for this? I'm definitely not going to lie, but some part of me wonders why it's their business if I'm not using AI to generate text. I feel so conflicted.

Well, yes and no?

Short answer: Just don't use AI to write your book. You will probably have to sign a contract that says you didn't use AI to write your book, and you shouldn't anyway, for lots of reasons. However, using AI tools is not the same thing as AI writing your book, so relax.

Long answer:

There are two (main) ways AI might come up in a contract. One is in the Warranties clause** (which I'll explain in the footnote below), and the other is in an AI clause -- not all publishers have them (yet?) but generally the AI clause has some wording like, neither the publisher or author can sell or license or give permission for the text to be "Scraped" by AI technology -- additionally, something like either the publisher or author may use AI tools in the course of normal business, but nothing in the text was generated by AI, the editor will be human, not AI, etc.

You'll notice here that both the author AND the publisher are held to the same standard -- that's important. And you'll also notice that it acknowledges that AI is a tool that MAY be used in the normal course of business. Zoom, google/gmail, adobe photoshop/acrobat, microsoft outlook/office-- all programs that publishers and authors use every day, any of which might have AI things woven into them. Autocorrect? Spellcheck? Grammarly? The thing on my tumblr RIGHT NOW that is highlighting words I should have capitalized in the sentence above? That's all AI technology. Obviously you don't have to "disclose" that you use normal tools of doing business.

If that includes "give me a list of girls names popular in the 1970s" or "what are some accidents that could happen at a skating rink" or "give me an example of plot beats in a mystery" -- OK. I still consider that a TOOL.

As long as you, a human, understand that generative AI technology uses other people's words to "create" -- so for fiction, OK if you want to brainstorm names or beats or whatever as above, as long as you are NOT USING IT TO WRITE THE BOOK -- YOU MUST WRITE THE STORY AND THE WORDS IN THE STORY.

And for nonfiction, AI makes up answers to questions that SOUND good but are actually just lies -- so PLEASE don't use AI technology to do actual research -- do your due diligence, make sure that any research you do online in any capacity (including Google) is factual, has primary sources to back it up, etc, etc. It's not actually a useful shortcut if all the info it gives you is straight up bad.

** In all publisher contracts there's a clause called Warranties and Indemnities. In that clause, you are warranting (swearing) that you have not plagiarized your book, that you personally created and own the rights to the book so you have the ability to sell/license them, that you have full permission for anyone else's work that you have quoted in the book, that nothing in the book breaches the law, yadda yadda.

IF ALL OF THAT IS THE TRUTH, and somebody sues you for plagiarism or copyright infringement or whatever, and you really didn't do it, the publisher will defend you and you won't have a problem. If, in fact, you lied in the Warranties section, then the publisher will not defend you and will cancel the contract and you'll be liable for whatever happens and can twist in the wind as far as they are concerned.

Some publishers are adding / have added / will add something in the Warranties clause where you also attest that the text is not generated by AI. (This is for several reasons aside from the fact that AI generated stories are crapola -- 1. AFAIK, AI generated text cannot be copyrighted, and 2. AI generated text may be plagiarized, soooo you'd be in danger of being in breach of your warranty even if it DIDN'T specifically call out AI!)

the "will wood in a (miku) binder" thing happened back in fall 2023 when i was still semi new to the fandom and didnt know a lot of things. so tho i to this day i dont think it was that big of a deal, i wouldnt do it today

it was an artwork made for shits and giggles, the context of which i have explained here before. i never meant to imply that will wood is trans and i certainly dont "headcanon" him as that. my curse is that even when joking around i tend to try and make my art look good, so i get why people thought it was unironic. and i know that it sounds like a lame ass excuse, but it legit didnt cross my mind that people would think i drew will wood as a trans guy or smth. legit my only thought process was "funny haha internet thing" + "my favorite thing" = "good idea"

now the usage of his real name is something i am genuinely sorry for, but it was an accident and a genuine mistake on my part. i remember seeing someone mention it casually in some comment section, and assuming that it was ok, since i didnt know he was in any way against it. (i also thought that it was the same name that he used in "the real will wood" in that one section cus it sounded a bit similar).

when i was informed about the fact that he doesnt want it spread around i deleted the post right away and apologized, so bringing it up like something i did on purpose and out of malicious intent is a tad bit .. misfitting, if you can use that word

I requested a video from Kavuma where he could share his story. He sent it to me via Gmail after his bad internet prevented him from uploading it to Tumblr. This took quite a while because of the internet at his refugee camp. I then uploaded this video to YouTube for him so it can be easily posted.

Photo Evidence

These pictures establish visual consistency, including two pictures of him wearing a red friends T-shirt which he wore in the video and two of him wearing the same plain dark grey T-shirt.

I requested this picture of Him holding a sign with his name, He is infront of the same wall as before. He is wearing a shirt which he wore in another older picture he sent to me that I cannot post as it would reveal his location and put him in danger.

This shirt matches the one that Kavuma wore in the picture above where he hold a piece of paper with his name.

Identification

Kavuma has shared with me a printed copy of his UNHCR identification. The Identification matches his name and facial identification. He cannot share this identification publicly.

i'm making this post because while it is a trick that i've been using for years, it is apparently something a lot of people aren't aware of when creating blogs. so, i'm here to fill you in.

tired of creating multiple emails just to make new blogs? well, do i have the solution for you!

here's a little secret: i've been using the same email for every one of my blogs since roughly 2015. how am i doing that? basically, you use a single email and tack on the blog name or character name and voila — activation emails will all be sent to the main email and you can input whatever url/character name you want as you create new blogs.

example:

faeishelping2024+faegfx@hotmail.com

this means that all activation emails will be sent to 'faeishelping2024@hotmail.com' and you only need to exchange the '+faegfx' for whatever muse/blog name you want. just make sure to keep the '+' there as well. this isn't limited to gmail, either. you can use any email service and it should work just the same.

for ease of finding things, i made an email just for tumblr rp stuff so that activation emails and notifications wouldn't get lost in my incoming mail with my main/work email. that way, all my tumblr rp stuff is in one place. i'd highly suggest doing the same if you want to keep things a little more organised.

ok so i just opened an etsy shop a few days ago, and decided I should make some social media accounts to advertise it with. Prior to this I had zero social media besides Tumblr (and an old instagram account with completely fake info and a different email address). I made a new gmail account for my business as I didn't want my personal one getting spammed with stuff from my shop.

I tried making a Facebook account since I know a lot of people on there who would be interested in what I sell, but at the end of the account creation process it immediately said 'your account has been suspended' with no explanation. like I never actually got into facebook, I just finished the account creation form and instead of doing anything it just said your account is suspended. I made an Instagram account after that and it worked for about a day before also getting suspended. That did have a reason, being "we don't allow fake accounts/deliberately hiding your identity" or something along those lines.

I am pretty confused- looking up the reasons for this happening with either app didn't clear things up at all. I put in all my personal information correctly, on Insta it even had my full legal name displayed, and I had set it to a business account (in case that's relevant here). The account wasn't fake and I wasn't trying to hide anything. To add insult to injury that old fake insta account is still running just fine, and when I checked through it, none of the information entered there was the same as the new one so I don't think that could be the problem. I am also not a criminal or anything lol, just a random young adult, and I truly cannot find anything that would've been suspicious to these companies.

Anyone have a clue why this is happening? And/or any suggestions for decent social media sites that won't immediately block me upon trying to join them? I made a Tumblr for it which hasn't had any problems so far, I guess I'll have to begrudgingly try Twitter and Tiktok (the latter I was really hoping to avoid, but here we are).

I have found a connection between Laura Deramas and the scammer amongsts/amongstss who was recently discovered and since been taken down. I have very good reason to believe that amongstss was either Laura herself, or someone working closely with Laura.

(Please bear with me as this is going to be a very long post. I don't know how to make it shorter.)

So first off, in the "speaking up" video Laura posted recently, while she admits that she "made a mistake", Laura claims that she made the video to "speak up about what I and user neeches "have been doing to her while she's not on Tumblr". Specifically, she is angry about how we've connected her with another now-deactivated scammer, sheeyancjoje. Laura is adamant and insists that she has not come back to Tumblr since I called her out, and so she wants us to stop "blaming her for all the scams that's happening here". Now Laura's acting may be FAMAS-worthy, but I maintain that the evidence I found about her and sheeyanc is solid and undeniable, and later I will also explain why this is so in a separate post. But for now, let's talk about amongsts.

Amongsts/amongstss was a scammer who recently got taken down by tumblr, and who was pretending to be a "Black Transwoman living in Andorra" trying to raise money for "rent support". The post they made was copied word-for-word from an actual fundraiser on Facebook with the only change being the person's first name. Here is the original post and my reblog with the callout and link to the legitimate fundraiser. After posting this, amongsts began sending me irate messages and insults through dm.

Now amongsts wanted their donors to only use "wire transfer or paypal" when donating. They also did not put the actual link anywhere on the post itself. When asked about this by other users, amongsts claimed that she prefers sending her paypal info through dm because of the spam emails she had been receiving lately:

Now someone had unfortunately already donated to amongsts before I was able to call them out, but I proceeded to send warning asks to those who reblogged the scam posts all the same. One of the users I messaged responded to me, and it turned out they were one of the people who had donated to amongsts. Because I thought it might be relevant for keeping track of the scammers on here I asked them if they could share to me the Paypal address that amongsts gave to them in private when they donated. This user very kindly got back to me and gave me the screenshot they took of the scammer's paypal name and gmail.

The name on the paypal was one "Joan Malubay", while the gmail address was written as mozoelle95@gmail.com

Here is a screenshot of my conversation with this user, with their blog and name redacted for privacy:

Going back to Laura and her "speaking-up" video. Laura keeps mentioning a certain JES SA, who she says is her friend and neighbor, and who according to her "made a tumblr" the night before and saw "all of the posts that I and neeches have been making about her". This JES SA then presumably alerted her about this, which is how she found out and why she was back again. Laura was also pretty insistent that I talk to this JES SA on Facebook, kind of similar to how she kept asking me to contact her mother back when she was still pretending to be dead:

Checking up on Laura's Facebook profile after all of this went down, I saw that she had made a couple of status updates about being "stressed" and "going through a lot lately". Sure enough, among those who sad-reacted to her posts was a user named Jes Sa. This Jes Sa also commented a happy birthday greeting on Laura's post during her son's birthday 4 weeks ago:

I also clearly remember seeing this user on Laura's old profile before, though I had no screenshots of her at that time and didn't really take note of her. Curiously, Jes Sa already had her profile locked when last I checked it, so I couldn't take a screenshot and had to take a photo using another phone.

So instead, I tried another route and typed "jes sa" on the search tab to see what comes up...and what do you know, the name "Malubay Jo an" was one of the first results.

This Malubay Jo an names Jes Sa as her sister in this pic (Bry Lle seems to be Jes Sa's former name on FB) as well as a "Dawn Syrelle Mozo" as her pamangkin/niece. Upon further digging, I've found that Jes Sa is Joan Malubay's sister, is married to a certain "Manuel (Nano) Mozo" and has at least two daughters, "Dawn Syrelle Mozo" and "Anne Janelle Mozo". On my screenshot of Jes Sa's birthday greeting above, Dawn Syrelle also greets Laura's son a happy birthday.

And so here is now the connection between Laura Deramas and the scammer amongstss:

Malubay Jo an on Facebook who lives in Davao City has two nieces with names that fit the gmail handle being used by amongstss. Malubay Jo an is also the sister of Jes Sa, the person Laura said is her "friend and neighbor", and who apparently is also here on tumblr.

Given this discovery, I can say that amongsts was probably being run by either Laura herself, or by her friend/s Joan and Jes Sa, or even more likely, they were all in it together.

And Laura's claims that she is not connected to any other scammers on here is another one of her many many lies.

A Huge Announcement!

So I was thinking of ways to make Feylin Week 2025 exciting and our activities somewhat unique amongst the fandom; I've never really seen something done for an ACOTAR fandom week, so I am very pleased to announce our very own Feylin Week 2025 Scavenger Hunt! The event is completely online, so anyone who wants to participate is able to, and yes, there is a price, but first some rules.

Signing Up

For organization purposes and to prevent trolls, you can only participate if you sign up on the appropriate form, which you can find at the end of the post. The user you sign up with has to be the user you use to DM me to officially complete the challenge. My messages will be set to followers only, so for anyone who uses a sideblog, make sure the right blog follows me.

When is this taking place?

August 17th, 2025 at 4:00 PM EDT. Neither the date nor the time is set in stone; there is a form for a time change, and if the current one is too inconvenient for enough people, the majority will decide the new time. Now time zones are a thing. You can find what 4:00 PM where I am would be for you here.

What if I am not available regardless of whatever time it is?

You can set up a proxy! When signing up, there is an option to appoint a proxy, which is someone that can complete the challenge in your name. If you choose to do this, you have to set up a password of some sort to send to me and a way to contact the proxy, whether through Tumblr, Gmail, Instagram, or TikTok, so I can ask them for the passcode you made. If the proxy wins for you, they must send the endcode through the same site of confirmation (so if it was through Instagram that I confirmed they were your proxy, they have to send the endcode through Instagram). It is your user that will be in the winner's announcement, but you, and anyone else who wins, can choose to remain anonymous to the public.

How to Win

Completing the hunt will give you a code that you have to send to this blog. The winning pool will be the first five people to send the message, so speed is a factor as well.

What is the prize?

Our five winners will be getting a set of four stickers made by @mossytrashcan: a brand new Feylin art, quote, Spring Court postcard, and a Rhysand's Tears cup. Now you have to be comfortable sharing your shipping address with me and them. If you still want to participate for the fun of it but don't want to share a location, you can specify in the form, so if you're a winner, your prize will be given to whoever's next that's comfortable with sharing their address.

Pssst! You! Yeah you! Do you want an OC or just a straight up Cameo in my webcomic?

Well look no further! Because we’re doing BLIMPS AWAY!!AIRSHIP SERVICES OC AND READER CAMEOS!!!

So essentially this idea came to me when I decided that I didn’t want to make up a gazillian designs for backround characters, and figured, Hey! It’s a good cameo opportunity!!

So essentially here’s what I do; I’ll section it into parts.

OC CAMEOS

OC cameos will go on the Blimps Away!!Walls of shame!! In the form of BANNED posters! Your OC gets LITERALLY BANNED FROM A FICTIONAL AIRSHIP AND AIRBUSSING COMPANY!!

Now, some guidelines.

So due to the nature of the lore, I ask for human Oc’s or Oc’s that look like only! You should submit the OC to me through one of the previous contacts I listed!

You should provide:

-A refrence photo of your little guy (Include colour swatches please!!)

-A name for them in case I have to zoom in on the BA!!AS wall of shame

-And (optional) why they got banned!!

If I do add your OC to a future panel of the comic, I will do my very best to reply and let you know!! NOTE THAT ALL OCS SHOULD BE SFW!!

READER CAMEOS

These ones are VERRRY similar to OC cameos! However, you, the reader, would appear in a crowd scene! Some people might even get a one off line! That bits only a maybe though.

Anyways! For this, in place of an oc reference sheet, I ask for one of the below methods in submitting your very own cameo:

NOTE - My one rule is that your cameo character MUST be a human or at least look like a human!!Again, same reason as I ask for OC’s to look like humans, it’s lore reasons! I also ask for colour swatches if you submit a reference drawing!

Introducing Hankcon Bingo's New Mod!

Hi everyone!

I'm really excited to introduce Hemlock. She's has volunteered to take over the bingo in my place, so from now on she's in charge! She's still currently getting comfortable with things behind the scenes, so please be patient and understand that not everything may be run the same as it was the before.

Originally, I wasn't sure if I wanted to hand over any accounts, but I realized that transferring ownership is incredibly easy so the bingo's Tumblr and AO3 will stay entirely the same for a seamless transition. This means you don't need to go anywhere to continue to enjoy the bingo. Yay!

The only account that's new is the bingo's email which is now hankconbingo.v2[at]gmail[dot]com, so please use that for all bingo related emails from now on.

Finally, thank you all for making my last round of the bingo a fantastic event. I was really excited to see all the new works you made and the amount of creativity that went into all of it. I'm also really happy that this event can continue with Hemlock behind the wheel and I wish you all luck. (I also realized I never introduced myself before, so hello, my name is El!
