As January rolled into February excitement started to buzz around the school as Valentine's Day grew nearer. And whilst everyone scrambled to get a date Daisy revelled in the fact that she needn’t worry this year. It wasn’t that she cared much about the holiday, finding the day to be less about loving someone and more about proving you had someone to love, but even so it was a welcomed as it gave her and Sirius chance to debut their new couple status.

And Daisy wasn’t the only one using the day as an excuse to more her relationship to the next level. Since informing Daisy of her intentions Lily had been going over her decision meticulously, planning everything with military precision which is how she came to speak to her sister the Friday night before the big day which coincided with a Hogsmeade weekend.

They were tidying up the attic after a club meeting, the only people left in the room bar the boys though they appeared to have no interest in making the room presentable after they’d spent the night practising how to use and stop the oppungo charm, a spell Frank had taught them that made objects come to life and attack leaving quite the disarray in their wake. As the girls gathered the objects that littered the floor the boys lounged around on the sofas listening to Peter boasting about how he was sure to defeat everyone in the gobstones tournament the following morning. Daisy was listening to him as she placed the last of the books on the shelf where they belonged but once she was done she allowed him to fade into the background, opting to head over to her sister who was straightening the stack of cushions.

‘I’ve put them all away,’ Daisy said as she approached. Lily nodded but didn't say anything, staring into the distance as she fiddled with the closest cushions tassels. Daisy’s eyes narrowed, ‘maybe I can do the cushions next?’ Again Lily gave a nod though she didn’t seem to be listening, well, not properly considering she had the aforementioned cushions in hand. Still Daisy decided to test her theory and said, ‘or I might just put them all at the bottom of the astronomy tower? Fling myself off and see if you’ve actually learnt that slowing charm you were on about?’ ‘Yeah, okay,’ Lily mumbled. ‘Okay so you weren’t listening then,’ Daisy grumbled. ‘What?’ Lily said, looking her sister in the eye, ‘oh sorry.’ ‘It’s alright. What’s up?’ Daisy asked. Lily bit her lip and glanced past her sister to where the boys were sitting still wrapped up in whatever Peter was telling them. ‘I’ve decided,’ she whispered. ‘Decided what?’ Daisy said far too loudly causing her sister to shush her. Sirius looked up at the noise making both twins smile at him weakly. His eyes narrowed but as the girls turned away, ensuring he was out of earshot so he figured there was no point trying to listen. Though it didn’t stop Daisy glancing over her shoulder, guaranteeing they were all consumed in conversation before she gestured for her sister to continue. Lily bit her lip.

‘C’mon then what’ve you decided?’ Daisy asked. Her sister said nothing but shot her a pointed look which got her point across in one. ‘Oh,’ Daisy said quietly. For the past couple of weeks Lily hadn’t mentioned their next milestone which meant that Daisy had been able to forget about it for a bit. Forget about worrying if she was normal or lagging behind. Forget her worries about Sirius getting bored and just enjoy their new relationship. ‘Yeah,’ Lily said nervously, ‘actually I need your help.’ ‘What do you want me to draw you a diagram?’ Daisy snorted, earning a swat on her arm from her twin. ‘Of course not!’ Lily said mortified. ‘Then what?’ Daisy asked genuinely intrigued about what her sister might need from her for this. Lily paused, all the planning and logistics going over and over in her head. After a deep breath she explained, ‘well we’re going to need somewhere for…well we need to make sure we won’t be disturbed.’ ‘And?’ Daisy said. ‘And the easiest place is going to be the boys dormitory obviously,’ Lily said. ‘Still not seeing how this has anything to do with me,’ Daisy said, Lily rolled her eyes wishing her sister would catch on a bit quicker should anyone overhear. Not before she’d had chance to even tell James, something she’d been hoping to do after the meeting. ‘Well, Peter’s going to be at his gobstones thing and you can handle Sirius but-’ ‘You need Remus out of action,’ Daisy said, catching on. ‘Well yeah,’ Lily said, flushing deep crimson. Daisy giggled, making her sister’s face darken even more before she whispered, ‘so will you help me?’

Daisy watched her for a moment. This revelation had put her in quite the tailspin recently but, of course, that had nothing to do with Lily. Her insecurities were hers only she knew that and if her sister was asking for her help she couldn’t refuse.

‘Of course I will.’

While Daisy dressed for breakfast the following morning she couldn’t help but mull over what excuse she was going to use to get Remus out of the way. Lily had made it quite clear that she was to inform no one, not even Sirius, about what they were up to until after the fact which meant that she wouldn’t even have help when it came to corralling Remus out of the way. She was only snapped out of her thoughts as Lily came flying out the bathroom, relief flooding her features as she noticed her sister sitting on the edge of her bed tying up her boots.

‘Oh good you’re up,’ Lily said. ‘I’ve been up for half an hour,’ Daisy grumbled, ‘and I’ve needed a wee the whole time.’ ‘Sorry,’ Lily said apologetically as she took a seat on her bed, looking at the two cardigans that were laid out on top of it and trying to decide which one might be better. ‘It’s alright,’ Daisy said, watching her closely, ‘I figured you might be a little long in there today.’ ‘I couldn’t decide on what eyeshadow to wear,’ Lily said nervously. Daisy sighed, ‘Lil, I can hand on heart tell you that James Potter does not care about what eyeshadow you’ve got on.’ ‘I know, I know,’ Lily mumbled, resuming her inspection of the cardigans.

Daisy watched her. In her opinion Daisy thought she looked beautiful in an effortless way. Thanks to her foundation her pale complexion was a shade darker which allowed the nude tones of her eyeshadows and lipstick to blend well, making her features shine beautifully. And though her outfit was simple, a skirt and V-neck shirt Daisy was sure Lily had told her was ‘far too low’ to be worn when it had been hers, it stood out given that it was different from the jeans and jumper look her sister usually favoured. And yet despite her effortless beauty Daisy could tell she was nervous.

‘You know you can change your mind right?’ Daisy said making Lily look up, ‘that’s okay.’ ‘I know,’ Lily nodded. ‘No one’s gonna care if you change your mind,’ Daisy said. ‘I know,’ Lily repeated firmly. ‘Are you gonna get rid of that massive weight from your shoulders then?’ Daisy teased and though it was only a little thing, Lily couldn’t help but feel comforted, offering her sister a smile as she said, ‘yeah…I guess I’m just nervous I mean what if it’s…’ ‘Shit?’ Daisy finished earning an eye roll from her sister. ‘I was going to say not what I expected but yeah,’ Lily said. ‘Well, I suppose it doesn’t really matter?’ Daisy said, ‘I mean surely the good thing about it is that you can practice and get better.’ ‘Yeah I suppose,’ Lily giggled. ‘I mean it’s right up your street isn’t it?’ Daisy asked. ‘What?’ Lily asked, her brow furrowed. ‘I mean it’s just revision,’ Daisy chuckled, ‘and you’re really good at that.’ ‘Oh shut up you,’ Lily said making Daisy laugh. Lily ignored her, opting to stand up and grab the cardigan she’d finally chosen, an emerald number that looked good against her. Daisy stood too, waiting until she was ready before she said, ‘all set?’ ‘Yep,’ Lily said with a deep breath, ‘let’s go.’

When the two got down to breakfast the table was almost full, with only Marlene missing.

‘Morning,’ the girls said as they took a seat, Lily sliding in beside James whilst Daisy took a seat next to Sirius, slipping her hand into his under the table. ‘Morning,’ Sirius said, squeezing her hand before he let it go so that she could butter her toast, his hand resting on her thigh instead which made her just as nervous as her sister had been not ten minutes ago. Yet as Daisy glanced at her sister she found her nerves almost gone, or at least masked, as she stirred her cup of tea and said as casually as possible, ‘so what’s everyone doing today?’ ‘Well, I’ve got my gobstones tournament,’ Peter said, spooning cornflakes into his mouth. ‘And we’re doing something that is not that,’ Sirius chuckled, making Daisy and James smile. ‘Me and Frank are headed into Hogsmeade,’ Alice said, nudging Frank’s arm making him look up from the book he was reading, offering a mumbled, ‘oh yeah,’ before burying his nose back in his book. ‘What about you Remus?’ Lily asked, striving not to look at the only boy who hadn’t offered an answer. Daisy glanced at Remus, who didn’t seem to realise he was under interrogation rather than making chitchat and offered a very tired, ‘dunno. Might do some studying in the library. I’m not fit for much today.’

At his response Lily’s face paled, her calm and cool demeanour vanishing due to the spanner in the works, as she looked towards James. Daisy figured by now he was up to speed on the decisions Lily had made but he seemed not to realise the current dilemma, too busy crunching his way through his toast, until there was a distinct thudding under the table where Daisy had walloped him in the shin. He grunted looking at Daisy who pleaded at him with her eyes. Fortunately the theatrics seemed to work as he straightened up, flicking the toast crumbs from his fingers as he suggested, ‘don’t you fancy heading into the village? I mean a brisk walk might do you good.’ ‘Yeah,’ Daisy said, jumping on the idea, ‘Sirius and I were gonna have lunch in the three broomsticks.’ ‘We were?’ Sirius asked, his brows knitting together. ‘I thought I’d told you,’ Daisy lied, keeping her gaze away from him as she was sure he’d know she was fibbing. ‘Oh I’d love to go to the pub today,’ Peter said, his mouth full of cereal. ‘Yeah but if you don’t go to the gobstones tournament they’ll be down to just what? Three other people?’ James chuckled. ‘Very funny,’ Peter grumbled. Daisy ignored them and instead leant into Remus, her head on his shoulder as she looked up at his tired face with pleading behind her eyes as she said, ‘what do you say Moony?’

Remus looked at her, his eyes narrowing as he surveyed her and then his friends who were also hanging on his decision. Well, apart from Sirius, who seemed to have the same suspicion he did.

‘Alright,’ he said carefully. ‘Yay,’ Daisy said, squeezing his arm before she went back to her breakfast, content that at least one part of the plan was over and done with. ‘Three Broomsticks it is then,’ Sirius said sharing a suspicious look with Remus that neither his girlfriend nor their friends spotted.

It was Baltic. The wind whipped through Hogsmeade attacking anyone who dared stand out in it which unfortunately for Sirius, meant him. He was trudging through the snow, next to his best mate, watching as his girlfriend walked a fraction ahead of them babbling away with a nervous energy. When she had suggested they come to the village he had supposed it wouldn’t be that bad but that was because he’d imagined cuddling up with her in the Three Broomsticks or risking a quick snog in the changing rooms of Madam Malkins. Not this.

Remus seemed to be on the same wavelength. Though he was only mid cycle he was dog tired and all he had wanted to do was spend the day in the library. Away from all the couples, away from all the in your face, nauseating love. Yet Daisy had piqued his interest. There was something a foot, he was sure of it. Not only from the way Daisy was acting, not letting them have a moment of rest, but because Lily and James had somehow managed to escape this trip.

‘Dais, how much longer are we gonna do this trek for?’ Sirius grumbled, willing his teeth not to chatter as he spoke even though he was bundled in jeans and a leather jacket, a thin jumper underneath which was doing nothing to protect him from the cold. ‘Yeah, we’ll be at John O’Groats at this rate,’ Remus groaned. ‘Oh come on it’s nice to be out of the castle,’ Daisy said airily. At her dismissal the boys shared a look the pair of them slowing down until they were stopped in the middle of the track, watching her walk ahead. Daisy carried on walking only turning after moment when she realised the squelch of mud underfoot had gotten significantly quieter. When she did she found the boys watching her suspiciously.

‘Come on you two,’ she said, but they didn’t budge. Daisy sighed, ‘what’s the matter?’ ‘What’s going on?’ Remus asked, cutting the chase. ‘What?’ Daisy asked, trying to remain cool as she feigned ignorance. ‘Oh come on Dais,’ Sirius smirked, ‘do you think we don’t know you’re up to something?’ ‘What would I be up to?’ she asked testily, folding her arms across her chest. ‘I’m not sure,’ Sirius said, walking up beside her and throwing his arm around her shoulder, ‘but it’s definitely something.’ ‘I resent the accusation,’ Daisy said, her arms still crossed. ‘Yeah?’ Remus said. ‘Yeah,’ she replied. Remus watched her, a theory bubbling in his brain, one he decided to test right then and there. ‘Well then,’ he said, ‘I doubt you want to spend time with people who would accuse you of such things. Come on Pads, let’s head back to the castle.’ ‘Alright,’ Sirius agreed as Remus turned on his heel and headed back towards the village. But Sirius’ arm hadn’t even left her shoulder before she shouted, ‘no!’ ‘Busted,’ Sirius chuckled as Remus turned around with a smug smile on his face. Daisy still didn’t want to admit defeat and said, ‘I mean…why don’t we just head back to the pub?’ ‘Oh we can but you’re going to tell us what’s going on,’ Sirius said as they walked towards Remus who fell into step with them as they trudged back the way they came, their footprints the only ones mud slickened track as they were the only people mad enough to come out in this weather. ‘Fine,’ Daisy sighed, ‘but you’re buying me a butter beer first.’

Once they were back in the Three Broomsticks, tucked away in the back corner, the boys sat opposite her watching Daisy as she sipped her drink oblivious to awaiting an explanation.

‘So,’ Sirius said leaning in on folded arms as the pair of them watched her expectantly. ‘So,’ Daisy mumbled as if she didn’t know what he was waiting for. ‘So are you going to tell us why you brought us on this wild goose chase?’ Sirius asked. ‘It’s a long story,’ Daisy said, her gaze on the beer mat she was fiddling with. ‘We’ve got time,’ Remus said. Daisy looked up and sighed, her fingers ceasing the dance they were doing over soggy cardboard, ‘well first of all it wasn’t my idea. It was-’ ‘James and Lily’s,’ the boys said in unison. ‘So they’re not as subtle as they think they are,’ Daisy smirked. ‘They’re not the only ones,’ Remus teased making her blush. ‘Oh I’m sure Pete has no idea what’s going on,’ Sirius chuckled. ‘Maybe but he wasn’t the problem,’ Daisy explained. ‘Problem?’ Remus asked. ‘Yeah,’ she said sheepishly, ‘they sorta needed to be alone.’ ‘Well they could’ve just found somewhere private. Like the astronomy tower eh Dais?’ Sirius said nudging her and causing the strawberry tinge on her cheeks to darken. She tried to ignore it as she explained, ‘well yeah but they-’ ‘Didn’t want to get caught,’ Remus said. Sirius looked at him curiously, an expression that grew deeper as Daisy said, ‘yeah.’ ‘Hang on, am I missing something?’ Sirius asked. ‘Surely you can figure it out mate,’ Remus said, raising his eyebrows. ‘Figure it out? The two of them wanted us out the castle so they could be alone and oh, oh,’ Sirius said, ‘well in Prongs.’ ‘Sirius!’ Daisy chastised. ‘What? He’s the one shagging your sister not me,’ Sirius chuckled though he winced as she thumped him on the arm, ‘ow!’ ‘She's right mate whatever they get up to behind closed doors and all that,’ Remus said. ‘Oi, I wasn’t the one talking about it with my sister,’ Sirius reasoned smugly. ‘That’s different, we're girls,’ Daisy said. ‘Like James won’t tell us everything later,’ Remus said. ‘Yeah I suppose you’re right. I doubt there’ll be anyone left in our year that doesn’t know by tonight,’ Daisy reasoned, hoping Lily would forgive her spilling the secret if it helped keep the boys out of the castle. ‘Yeah because they’ll all be wondering why James internally combusted,’ Sirius joked, making them all laugh.

However as the laughter died down Remus looked at the pair of them, suddenly feeling very much like a third wheel, and cleared his throat, ‘so, now that I know to avoid the dorm like the plague am I okay to be released from being babysat?’ ‘Moony, I wasn’t babysitting you,’ Daisy said guiltily. ‘No I know,’ he said awkwardly, ‘but I’ve got stuff to do and I’m sure the pair of you wouldn’t mind being left alone right?’ ‘Oh feel free to bugger off on my account,’ Sirius smirked, earning him a dig in the ribs from Daisy. ‘Don't be daft,’ Daisy said, ‘you can stay with us if you want. We like having you around.’ ‘Nah,’ he said, ‘I think the library is calling. See you two later?’ ‘Yeah see you mate,’ Sirius said.

Daisy wanted to protest but she could see he was determined to leave them and so nodded offering him a hug before he headed out of the pub. However her guilt about making him feel as though he was an imposition wasn’t her main worry because if she was being honest she didn’t want to be alone with Sirius. Because when they were alone her worries started to creep back in. Even more so now he knew what his friends were up to this afternoon.

‘So,’ Sirius said once he was gone, ‘what now?’

Unfortunately for Daisy Sirius seemed thrilled at the idea of being alone and since there was no chance of them being disturbed as all their friends were occupied, he suggested they head back to the castle and up to the attic out of the way. She couldn’t disagree. They’d been up there a couple of hours, listening to music which eventually turned into talking over the music and to her surprise, Daisy’s nerves seemed to disappear once it was just them. She was sitting on the sofa, her legs across his with her back against the arm, babbling away about her muggle studies essay.

Sirius didn’t know how the conversation had gone from talking about Led Zeppelin to muggle studies because in all honesty he hadn’t been listening. He was too busy staring at her, too busy looking at how her eyes lit up a little when she got in the swing of talking. Too busy noticing just how much she used her hands when she spoke. Too busy looking at her lips, which were chapped from the cold outside but still begging for him to kiss them. So, as she spiralled through her conversation Sirius watched until she paused, noticing him ogling her.

‘What?’ she said nervously. ‘Nothing,’ he said, his fingers drumming against her leg, ‘I just love watching you talk.’ ‘Oh,’ she mused, ‘you mean you weren’t listening to a word I was saying right?’ ‘Oh definitely not,’ Sirius said with a wide smile. ‘Figures,’ she replied, watching him for a second. He looked good today, though of course she always thought that, but his grey eyes seemed lighter and his hair tousled from where he had pushed it out of his face when walking through the cold. As she watched him his hand came to her cheek, catching her chin in between his thumb and forefinger as he leaned in and placed a kiss on her lips.

Daisy melted into it, wrapping her arms around his neck as she deepened it. Without thinking she swung her legs off him, climbing onto his lap as her fingers knotted in his hair, making him groan. The noise alone was enough to make a tingling sensation form in Daisy’s lower stomach and it only worsened as he moved his hands to her hips, fingers dancing under the hem of her shirt.

That should’ve been enough to snap her back to reality but to her surprise, Daisy didn’t stop. All the worries she’d been having refusing to surface. As she moved her hips causing friction between them Sirius grunted, pulling his mouth from hers so that he could kiss down her neck, his fingers going further up her shirt. That was when she felt it. Sirius, hard against her thigh. And just like that she stopped, her hands dropping to his shoulders as she steadied herself. Sirius didn’t seem to notice for a moment but when he felt her go still he pulled back, a little breathless.

‘What’s the matter?’ he said, looking at her with confusion. ‘Nothing,’ she lied, going back to kiss him but Sirius tilted his face so her kisses dotted along his jaw. ‘Dais,’ he said. His hands hadn’t moved from her hips but he gripped them a little differently forcing her to stop. She looked down at him nervously finding expectant worried eyes looking back at her. With a sigh she slipped off his lap and sat next to him. ‘Is everything okay?’ he said quietly, ‘I didn’t hurt you did I?’ ‘What?’ she replied, ‘no, of course you didn’t.’ ‘Then what is it?’ he asked nervously. ‘It’s nothing…I just…you were…’ she started, a blush creeping back onto her face as she nervously fiddled with the fringe on a cushion behind him. ‘I was?’ Sirius asked, his brows knitted together again. ‘A little…excited,’ she said, glancing quickly at his lap and then back at his face. ‘Oh,’ he said, not a touch of embarrassment on his face as he added, ‘well yeah.’

Daisy wanted the ground to swallow her up. She didn’t know why she was suddenly so embarrassed, after all it was Sirius for god’s sake, but she couldn’t stop herself from dropping her gaze. When she did Sirius’ bemusement turned to worry as he placed a hand on her knee, ‘Dais?’ ‘I know I’m being silly,’ she said looking up to find him watching her with concern. ‘Silly about what?’ Sirius asked, confused. ‘Well, since Lil told me about…y’know, I’ve been panicking because I’m not Lil. I mean we’re two different people right? We’re not going to, I mean it’s not that I don’t want to, I just, we just,’ she babbled. ‘Sweetheart you’re gonna have to catch me up because I’m not getting-’ ‘I don’t want to have sex with you,’ Daisy blurted out, the pair of them going quiet for a moment before Sirius offered an, ‘oh.’ ‘No,’ she started anxiously, ‘I don’t mean it like that.’ ‘Well can you tell me what you do mean? Cos I’m still a little lost here,’ he said with a smile which reassured her. ‘Since Lil told me about her and James I’ve been worrying…because I’m not there yet,’ she explained, biting her lip. ‘Well that’s okay,’ he said, squeezing her knee. ‘It’s not that I don’t want to eventually,’ Daisy said, ‘I’m just not…’ ‘Ready to jump my bones?’ he laughed. ‘Yeah,’ she said quietly, ‘you don’t mind do you?’ ‘Why would I mind?’ he asked. ‘Well you’re a bloke,’ she pointed out. ‘Okay, so, I’m not going to pretend I haven’t thought about it,’ he chuckled, ‘but if you’re not ready I’m not going to demand it happens today. Or this week. I’m happy for you to lead.’ ‘But, what about…’ she said, dropping her voice again. Sirius watched her expectantly, urging for her to elaborate, ‘I mean you’re not exactly a novice when it comes to girls. I thought you’d be all for it.’ ‘Dais, you should know by now that you can’t trust everything the Hogwarts rumour mill puts out,’ he said. He moved his arm onto the back of the couch now, leaning in so their heads were almost touching. ‘But you’ve dated so many girls,’ she said confused. ‘Dated yeah,’ he said, ‘slept with no.’ ‘A-And Mar?’ she asked though she didn’t know why. She wasn’t even sure she wanted to know what her boyfriend and her best friend had got up to in the time they were together. ‘Messed around I’ll admit but we never went all the way,’ he said, dropping his volume a little as he said, ‘I’ve never slept with anyone.’ ‘No?’ Daisy said hope evident in her voice. Sirius rolled his eyes. ‘I’ve been busy moping after you for the past year and a half,’ he smirked, ‘believe it or not no one fancies a lad who's busy pining for his best friend.’ ‘I do,’ she chuckled, leaning in and giving him a peck on the lips. ‘Good,’ he said, ‘because even if we aren’t shagging there’s no way I wanna stop kissing you.’

When Daisy finally crept back to the dormitory it was gone one am. Her eyes were heavy and aching but and she wanted nothing more than to climb into bed but as she made her way over to it she heard Lily call her name and looked to find her sitting up in bed, her eyes anxious and wide.

‘What are you doing back so late?’ she said as Daisy walked towards her bed. ‘I was with Sirius,’ Daisy said simply. ‘Oh, right, yeah of course,’ Lily muttered. ‘Were you waiting up for me?’ Daisy asked. ‘No, of course not, I was reading…’ Lily said nervously. ‘Lil?’ Daisy pressed, causing wide anxious green eyes to find hers. ‘Maybe,’ Lily said meekly. Daisy chuckled and climbed into bed beside her sister, pulling the covers over both of them as she sunk into her so that her head was resting on Lily’s shoulder. Neither spoke for a moment.

‘So,’ Daisy said, ‘what’s the matter?’ ‘Nothing,’ Lily said. ‘But?’ Daisy replied. ‘I guess I just wanted to offload. About today,’ Lily said sheepishly. Daisy pulled back and held back a smirk as she watched a red tinge creep across her sister’s face. She supposed she should’ve seen this coming; it was just like Lily to need to dissect everything and Daisy swore she never did anything without strenuous preplanning and rigorous evaluating afterwards. ‘Why what was today? Something special?’ Daisy teased earning a glare from her twin, ‘alright, alright, come on how was it?’ ‘Okay,’ Lily said quietly. Daisy frowned. ‘Okay bad or okay good?’ she asked with worry. ‘Just…okay,’ Lily said. ‘Wow, let’s hope James can’t hear you from here I don’t think his ego would ever recover,’ Daisy said nudging her sister. When she received nothing back she frowned again and asked, ‘Lil, are you sure you’re okay?’ ‘Yeah, it’s just I thought I’d feel different you know? Like I’d be a whole new woman but I don’t feel any different. I mean planned for everything and it wasn’t like I planned. Actually it was a bit awkward… maybe there’s something wrong with me,’ Lily said sadly. Daisy sighed and put her arm around her shoulder, allowing Lily to wrap her arms around her. ‘Nothing’s wrong with you,’ Daisy said. ‘I just feel like he was expecting something more,’ Lily mumbled into the fabric of Daisy’s shirt. ‘I’m sure he was just happy to be there,’ Daisy chuckled. When her sister said nothing she paused before asking quietly, ‘were you expecting more?’ ‘No,’ Lily said pulling back from the embrace, ‘I guess I just thought I’d be more prepared or less nervous. And I didn’t think he would be nervous but he was actually more nervous than me.’ ‘It was both your first time,’ Daisy reasoned. ‘Yeah, I guess you’re right,’ Lily said. ‘Besides you don’t have to do it again if you don’t want to not right away at least,’ Daisy added. To her surprise her sister scoffed, rolling her eyes as she said, ‘what and have Sirius tease us mercilessly no thank you.’ ‘Sirius wouldn’t do that,’ Daisy said, a tiny bit miffed at her sister’s words. ‘Right, like Hogwarts Casanova wouldn’t tease his best mate,’ Lily said. ‘He’s not a casanova!’ Daisy retorted, ‘and if you must know Sirius hasn’t yet.’ ‘Oh,’ Lily said with surprise, ‘I thought…’ ‘Me too,’ Daisy said, her irritation melting away as she saw a true look of regret on her sister’s face. At that she decided to be honest, after all Lily had bared her soul to her, wasn’t like she couldn’t do the same.

‘And if I’m being honest it was freaking me out,’ Daisy admitted, ‘more than you were freaking out I’d reckon.’ ‘Really?’ Lily asked. Daisy nodded. ‘Yeah, I mean I thought he had and then you and James were ready and I wasn’t, I’m still not. So you’re not the only one who thought there was something wrong with them,’ Daisy said. Lily smiled sadly and nestled back into her sister as she said, ‘oh Dais you shouldn’t be worried about that. We’re all ready in our own time.’ ‘I know,’ Daisy nodded, ‘I was just worried because I thought Sirius would be you know.’ ‘Have you told him about it?’ Lily asked. ‘Yeah, I told him today. He was actually really sweet about it. That’s when he told me about, well, his reputation being a little exaggerated. I mean if you tell anyone he’ll probably kill me and you,’ Daisy warned. ‘I’ll keep it to myself don’t worry,’ Lily said with a smile. ‘Good,’ Daisy said falling quiet. The pair of them sat there for a moment cuddled into one another, as they had done so many times before.

Eventually, Daisy said, ‘Lil?’ ‘Mmm?’ Lily asked, moving her head just a touch to indicate she was listening. ‘Do you regret it?’ Daisy asked. ‘No,’ Lily said quietly, her voice growing steadier as she said, ‘no, I don’t think I do.’ ‘I guess that’s a good thing. I mean, even if it wasn’t quite what you expected,’ Daisy replied. ‘Yeah,’ Lily said, ‘and I wouldn’t worry you know…if you’re not ready to.’ ‘I’m not, not anymore. Sirius made me realise I was being silly,’ Daisy said. ‘We really did pick two good ones didn’t we,’ Lily said. ‘Oh god,’ Daisy groaned. ‘What?’ Lily replied. ‘You’re going soft,’ Daisy teased. ‘I am not!’ Lily protested. ‘Yes, you are!’ Daisy giggled, ‘just for the love of God do not say that around them. They may be good men but they’re big-headed boys first of all.’

After that, they burst into giggles, albeit very hushed, so much so that Daisy was laughing so hard she could feel it in her ribs until finally the laughter subsided and they fell back into quiet.

‘I should probably get into bed,’ Daisy said with a sigh. Lily looked at her and nodded. The blonde climbed out of bed and padded across the short distance to her own bunk. She stripped off her clothes and shoved on the pyjamas she had been wearing yesterday before she climbed into her own bed and covered up, ready to settle down to sleep but as she lay there she heard her sister whisper, ‘night Dais.’ ‘Night Lil,’ Daisy replied quietly. ‘Dais,’ Lily said, forcing Daisy to roll onto her elbow so that she could look at her only to find her twin posed similarly on her own bed, waiting for her. ‘Yes Lil?’ Daisy asked. ‘I’m glad I waited up for you,’ Lily said, ‘you’re a good sister you know that?’ ‘You too,’ Daisy said. ‘Love you,’ Lily smiled. ‘Love you too,’ Daisy replied before she fell back into bed and allowed sleep to pull her under.

After unloading all her worries onto her sister’s listening ears Lily seemed to relax and though everyone knew what they had been up to that day, well bar Peter, there was no teasing or ribbing as Lily expected. Though Sirius did tell Daisy that James had been beside himself when he’d gotten back to the dorm, apparently proud as punch and seemingly not having noticed any of the awkwardness Daisy had told her about. Daisy had rolled her eyes but kept quiet. Typical, she reasoned. Whilst the girls were in knots about every aspect of their relationships the boys were oblivious, go figure.

Fortunately for Daisy it wasn’t just her sister’s mood that had improved but her relationship too. Since Daisy had been honest with him about her feelings things seemed to be less pressured. She felt like they were on the same page which admittedly was one that included being very handsy. The only night they hadn’t spent tucked away together was defence club night and that was only because they physically couldn’t be and having missed one another’s touch the following morning they came down to breakfast hand in hand. Since this was the first time they’d been open about their relationship there were a few lingering looks but Daisy found she didn’t care.

As she slotted onto the bench Sirius sat down beside her. Lily and James were across from them but they were the only ones there. Daisy knew Alice was in the library helping Frank with some revision and she had seen Marlene bolt from the dormitory first thing to meet Pierre but she expected the boys to be there.

‘Where is everyone?’ Daisy asked as she poured herself a bowl of cornflakes. ‘Pete’s got some gobstones meeting,’ James said, ‘and Moony’s not feeling too good.’ ‘Is he alright?’ Daisy asked with a frown, wondering why Sirius hadn’t mentioned it on their way down to breakfast. ‘He’s fine. Just tired,’ James said. ‘Is he missing the day?’ Lily asked with concern probably more about his attendance record than his well-being. ‘Nah, he said he’d be up later,’ James said as he wiped his mouth on the back of his sleeve earning a grimace from Lily that he ignored. ‘Maybe we should tell McGonagall,’ Lily said worriedly. ‘Tell me what?’ a nasal voice said from behind them forcing them to whip around where they found McGonagall standing behind James and Lily, unnoticed by all in the depths of conversation. ‘That Remus isn’t feeling well Professor,’ James said. ‘Is that so?’ McGonagall said, her lips pursed and her eyes narrowed for a moment, the lack of trust for anything the boys said evident in her tone. ‘He said he thinks he’s going to have to miss a couple of lessons,’ Lily reiterated, ‘we just thought we should tell you so you know he’s not just skipping.’ ‘Okay, well thank you, Miss Evans,’ McGonagall said with a kind smile. James turned back to his breakfast rolling his eyes which made Sirius and Daisy hide a laugh. James was not one to be outdone, even if it was Lily who was doing the outdoing.

‘Mr Black?’ McGonagall said cutting their hushed laughter off. ‘Yes, Professor?’ Sirius said after a beat, a smile still dancing on his lips. ‘I have a letter for you,’ she said handing him an envelope, ‘and I want to see you in my office after school.’

 ‘Am I-’ Sirius said but it was no use because she was gone, flying up the aisle and out of the great hall, watched by all until she disappeared, making three confused faces look to him. Having no clue what it could be Sirius shrugged and quickly opened the letter.

‘What is it?’ Daisy asked trying to peek as he scanned through the parchment. ‘It’s from my uncle,’ Sirius said. ‘Your uncle?’ James said confused. ‘Yeah,’ Sirius said, still scanning the letter, ‘he’s dead.’ ‘Oh Sirius I’m sorry,’ Lily said. ‘Don’t be,’ Sirius snorted but as Lily frowned he changed tact, ‘don’t worry he wasn’t horrible or anything. I mean coming from my family he could’ve been a lot worse but I didn’t really know him or anything. We only met like twice.’ ‘So why the letter?’ Daisy asked curiously. ‘It’s from his estate people,’ Sirius said, ‘he’s mentioned me in his will.’ ‘Seriously?!’ James said yanking the paper from him which earned him a disapproving elbow from Lily though she didn’t stop herself from reading the letter over his shoulder.

Dear Master Black, I am writing this letter on behalf of my client Alphard Perseus Black whom I regret to inform you has passed away. For this I offer my sincerest condolences.

Before his passing, he made me the executor of his will and therefore it is my job to inform you that he has named you as a beneficiary in his final will and testament.

In order to fulfil his wishes I hereby invite you to a reading of his will. As I understand you are currently underage and a school student therefore I ask you to respond with the cooperation of your appointed guardian.

I expect to hear from you soon.

‘Bloody hell mate,’ James said handing it back. ‘What do you think he’s left you?’ Lily said. ‘I dunno,’ Sirius said, ‘I don’t really know him and my mother hated him so…’ ‘You don’t think they’ll be there do you?’ Daisy said quietly, throwing a worried glance towards the Slytherin table. ‘I don’t know,’ Sirius murmured, his eyes following her path to where his brother was sitting in quiet conversation with Barty Crouch oblivious to being ogled, ‘Regulus doesn’t seem to have gotten the same memo.’ ‘Maybe you’re the only person he liked,’ James chuckled. ‘Maybe,’ Sirius smirked. ‘I’ll tell you one thing though,’ James said pointing his milky spoon towards his friend, ‘you better hope he left you something decent if you have to go through a meeting with Minnie to get it.’

Daisy paced outside the wooden door. Sirius had been in McGonagall’s office for over half an hour and she was going stir-crazy just thinking about what she might be telling him. After all they’d spent all day speculating about what this will would bring and now she had no one to speculate with she was at the end of her tether. She needed to know or at least know the next phase. Eventually, she heard movement coming towards her and the door clicked open allowing Sirius to step out. He closed it quietly behind him but as Daisy went to jump in he shook his head.

‘Not here,’ he said shaking his head which made her nod and quickly follow him down the corridor until they reached an empty classroom.

After doing a quick sweep of the corridor to make sure no one was about they ducked inside and closed the door behind them. Daisy took a seat on an empty table as Sirius came to stand between her legs, his hands on her thighs as she asked, ‘what did she say?’ ‘Well, the meeting’s next Friday at two,’ he said simply. ‘And?’ Daisy pressed wondering how he could spend near half an hour in there and come out with as little as that. ‘And this Thicknesse guy will tell me everything when I get there,’ Sirius shrugged. ‘She doesn’t know what he’s left you?’ Daisy asked. ‘No but I don’t think she’s allowed to know though not through lack of trying,’ Sirius chuckled, ‘she let slip that she got the letter last week and she’d been needling this poor bloke for as many details as she could get.’ ‘He must be the real deal if he didn’t cave to Minnie,’ Daisy giggled. ‘Yeah,’ Sirius smiled.

Suddenly a thought popped into Daisy’s head and she dropped her gaze as she mumbled, ‘does she know if your brother’s invited?’ ‘Yeah,’ Sirius said making her look up with worry, ‘I mean she knows. He’s not, none of them are. She told him it was a delicate situation and that I’d need a separate appointment.’ ‘Well, I suppose that’s good,’ Daisy said. ‘Yeah but that doesn’t mean they’re not involved in the will,’ Sirius said. ‘Yeah but you don’t care what he’s left you right? I mean they can have whatever they want right?’ Daisy reasoned though she was still just as nervous as he was about. Worrying on his behalf that he’d have to see them, that he’d be forced to interact with them. ‘But if he’s left it to more than one of us I might have to see them. Like if it’s something big it’ll be all official and that,’ Sirius mumbled. ‘Well we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,’ Daisy said leaning up to press a tender kiss on his lips which fortunately seemed to soothe both of them, Sirius’ grateful smile turning mischievous as he said, ‘that’s the other thing.’ ‘What?’ Daisy asked ‘Well I asked McGonagall what was going to happen about the appointment…’ ‘And?’ Daisy asked hesitantly. ‘She said I could go without her,’ Sirius stated. ‘She let you have a day off school? Unsupervised?!’ Daisy gaped, ‘is she okay?’ ‘Well she said I had to go with someone sensible,’ Sirius said. ‘So?’ Daisy said biting her lip. ‘So how would you like to accompany me to hear about some dead bloke’s stuff?’ Sirius chuckled. ‘Oh Mr Black you are such a romantic,’ Daisy chuckled. ‘Hey if you don’t want to I can always ask Remus,’ Sirius chuckled leaning in to kiss her. As he pulled her to him her arms wrapped around his neck, forcing him to take it deeper which only caused a flutter between her legs as he stood between them kissing her passionately. When he pulled back and she saw his face the feeling got deeper. His grey eyes were sparkling in the low lamplight and his lips were more prominent from kissing her. It made her heart thud, as did the smile that played out on his lips as he murmured, ‘I love you y’know.’ ‘I love you too,’ Daisy said with a smile. ‘It’s a good job I knew that before I come into all my money huh?’ Sirius chuckled. ‘Oh definitely,’ Daisy giggled.

The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett. Mystery/fantasy centered around Din, a young assistant investigator assigned to help an eccentric and infamous detective, Ana Dolabra, solve a series of murders. Din is an engraver, his brain altered so he has a photographic memory. However, no one is quite sure how he got his current position, since he failed every single one of his final exams except the combat portion. Ana is an exceedingly odd woman who refuses to go to any crime scene in person and often performs mad science experiments in her spare time. As Din struggles to keep up with the case, which revolves around a bioweapon being unleashed on a series of the empire's best engineers, he also worries what will happen when Ana finally uncovers his secrets.

Highfire by Eoin Colfer. Urban fantasy (very comedic fantasy) about a dragon called Vern (short for Wyvern), who teams up with a juvenile delinquent named Squib (real name Everett Moreau) to take down a corrupt sheriff who is plaguing the Lousiana bayou. Vern is a very small (seven feet long) dragon who is the last of his kind (as far as he knows). When he is spotted by a local troubled teen, his first instinct is to hunt Squib down and kill him, but he quickly realizes the two of them have a common enemy- the murderous sheriff who is running drugs through their territory.

The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi. Magical realism about a romantic-minded art historian who is swept off his feet by a mysterious and charming heiress. After a whirlwind courtship, the happy couple return to her childhood home; a Gothic manor on a lonely island. The more time our narrator spends around his wife's past, the more questions are raised- increasingly sinister ones about who she is and what exactly she is capable of. Once upon a time, she was best friends with an equally odd and dreamy little girl named Indigo. But no one has seen Indigo for many years now- and the Flower Bride may be behind her disappearance.

Chlorine by Jade Song. Horror/magical realism. Since childhood, Ren's entire identity has been wrapped up in swimming. If she can be strong enough, fast enough, special enough, success is sure to come her way. As the end of high school approaches, Ren's passion for swimming becomes less about her future, and more about past legends of mermaids and sirens dragging sailors into the deep. School, friends, and her parents' expectations all fall away- Ren will make her home in the water, no matter what she has to do.

We Are Not Like Them by Christine Pride & Jo Piazza. Realistic fiction. Jen and Riley have been best friends for as long as they can remember, despite their vastly different childhoods. Everyone Knows Your Mother is a Witch by Rivka Galchen. Historical fiction. LILY EVANS is TWENTY-TWO YEARS OLD and a JUNIOR RESEARCHER in THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC RESEARCH WING at THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC. She looks remarkably like ELLIE BAMBER and considers herself aligned with THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. She is currently TAKEN.

→ OVERVIEW:

Lily Evans always had a suspicion she was special. Raised in Cokeworth to librarian JILL EVANS and school teacher JOHN EVANS, Lily had a relatively simple upbringing. The Evans house was like something out of a storybook, with a white picket fence and a gate that slammed hard on it’s hinges every as she ran through it on their way to school. In the garden various types of flowers bloomed including water lilies which floated on their pond and petunias lining the garden all after which both Lily and her older sister PETUNIA were named. Having a sister was a special connection to Lily. Petunia was her best friend and her protector from the day she was born, never once leaving her side. Petunia helped Lily to ride a bike for the first time without stabilizers across the green towards Spinners End and shared with her all of her favourite toys. Although the Evans house had enough bedrooms to house both the girls separately, Lily and Petunia were happiest together and shared a pale pink bedroom with glowing stars on the ceiling they stared at as they whispered secrets to one another before they slept. Lily’s childhood was magical before she even knew that real magic existed in the world. She saw beauty in the first snowflake to fall in their garden in December to the dragonflies that danced upon their pond in the spring. 

Her life truly began to change when Lily was around seven years old. The flowers Lily and her sister danced around had a funny way of dancing too when Lily twirled around them. As she grew older she realised it was not simply the wind that coerced them into a waltz. Cupping a flower her sister had picked for her in her hand, Lily could make it flourish and bloom before the petals turned to butterflies that flew away into the sky. Lily’s magic was beautiful and although such abilities would frighten most Muggle children it only made her more eager to look at things in her world more closely. Petunia became jealous of Lily’s magic, saying cruel and spiteful things which made tears fill her eyes and roll down her cheeks. It hadn’t been so bad at first, but when Lily befriended SEVERUS SNAPE from Spinners End it signalled the beginning of the end for the Evans girls friendship. Severus Snape was an awkwardly quiet boy, very different from the outgoing and frienly Lily Evans. He was hesitant to be her friend at first, avoiding her gaze as he sat alone on the green by his house, until slowly but surely Lily managed to coax him out of his shell. 

Severus didn’t seem to mind when Lily made odd things happen, in fact he found the things she could do quite wonderful. A look of awe in his eyes each time she would blush apologetically for making it snow which often happened when she spoke about her sister with a heavy heart. Severus was the first person to explain magic to Lily, giving context to the strange things she could do. She was a witch and one day she would arrive home from school to a letter from PROFESSOR DUMBLEDORE telling her she had been selected to attend a magical school for people just like them. Of course when Lily’s letter came, Petunia was delighted to find out her sister would be attending boarding school, upstting Lily more than Petuina was aware. Collectng her books from Diagon Alley was a magical experience for Lily that Petuina also seemed intent on ruining, from her nasty comments to constant complaining that shocked passers by. Before she boarded the train to Hogwarts Lily hugged Petunia once, knowing it was quite possibly the last hug she would ever give her again and shed one small tear into the crook of Severus’ cloak before vowing to fully embrace her new life away from home.

Sorted into Gryffindor, Lily quickly befriended MARLENE MCKINNON, MARY MACDONALD and DORCAS MEADOWES who were very unique characters. Although Mary was also a Muggle-Born, they were bubbly and friendly, seemingly unphased by the hustle and bustle of this new world that Lily felt slightly intimidated by. The beginning of classes signalled a new found confidence for Lily as she quickly established herself amongst her peers as an incredibly talented witch. A firm favourite of her professors, particularly PROFESSOR SLUGHORN and PROFESSOR FLITWICK, Lily’s talents began to attract her both positive and negative attention at school, as people flocked to be her friend and ask for her help with their studies. Others began to feel disdain toward her brilliance. JASPER AVERY in particular enjoyed bullying Lily calling her a “mudblood” and encouraging his friends to do the same as she repeatedly bested him academically. Lily had a very thick skin, however and was known to aim a plethora of cleverly orchestrated insults and the occasional hex back his way. Garnering a reputation as someone that although was gentle hearted was not to be underestimated, JAMES POTTER was someone who learned this of Lily the hard way. 

A fellow Gryffindor, James Potter was a terribly arrogant boy who seemed to believe his good looks made him entitled to any attention he desired. Though she had seen glimmers of kindness within him, Lily believed James and his best friends SIRIUS BLACK and PETER PETTIGREW were self-entitled bullies and spent the majority of her time at school attempting to remind James that he was an arrogant toerag. REMUS LUPIN, the other member of their group, was nothing like his friends. A quiet and studious boy, Lily was very fond of him and eventually came round to the idea of James, Sirius and Peter being more than just a thorn in her side after both Lily and Remus became prefects in their fourth year. Around the same time Lily began to notice a shift in her relationship with Severus who seemed saddened by Lily’s acceptance of a group of boys who enjoyed bullying him, although Lily had always stepped in to defend Severus whenever it was brought to her attention. Having always thought it important to defend Severus, Lily had no idea he secretly despised her getting involved until it was too late. A more skilled duellist than Severus with a more confident facade, Lily thought nothing of throwing herself forward to defend Severus until the day he turned on her for it. Referring to her as a “filthy mudblood” in front of his dorm mates. The two had been drifting apart for some time, though she had still considered him her best friend. 

Lily had never been phased by people discussing her blood status, but for Severus to suggest she was lesser than everyone else because of it shook Lily to her core and pierced her heart beyond repair. The remainder of her time at school was spent firmly with the Gryffindors, with Lily focusing on her school work and enjoying her final years at Hogwarts. Graduating top of her class and as Head Girl, Lily quickly applied for a job as a Junior Researcher at The Ministry of Magic, hoping to continue her academic career studying experimental Charms. Taking up a little apartment with Marlene in Diagon Alley, Lily had adjusted to her new life outside of Hogwarts, frequenting the pub with Peter and going to and from work each day. That was until Professor Dumbledore approached her. Lily had experienced first hand the hatred the hatred of Muggle-Borns. The Order of The Phoenix was set up by Dumbledore to act as a line of defence to protect those like Lily and expressed an interest in joining as soon as the idea was floated. Assigned EMMELINE VANCE as her mentor, Lily has enjoyed training with The Order and sharpening her skills under a highly experienced and intelligent witch. With the prospect of a war looming as more people go missing in London, Lily is determined to stand up for what she believes is right and has found herself being more open to developing new and existing relationships in light of what’s to come.

1.1 Note: If you don't include what type of request it is that you want me to cook up, I will choose the type myself so don't come at me if you wanted a 2K worded piece of work and instead got an imagine with 200 words!

Unless asked for, I will be writing with the Female!reader in mind (I like to exclude any gender relation and make it so that both genders could read and enjoy).

Give others a chance to submit their wishes, and don’t make the line too big with by mass requesting (I close requests after I get around 30 requests).

Requests sent during seasons I have not watched or for characters that have yet to make an appearance in the show will not be written (exceptions exist).

I write one-shots but not a whole series unless I can see/want a continuation.

Themed requests (Christmas, Valentine's Day, New Year etc.) can be only sent during that time. I don’t accept Christmas requests during the month of May. The same goes for the rest.

I have every right to delete every request that does not fit within the rules stated above, or I feel uncomfortable writing. Also, it’s important to note that I don’t have inspiration to write every request that’s sent. It’s normal to not have inspiration, and because I prefer quality to quantity, if I see that I don’t have inspiration for a request then I will not write it.

The two weeks at the Potter’s passed by in the blink of an eye for everyone except Sirius. Now that he had realised the true extent of his feelings his relationship with Daisy now felt more cumbersome, his brain scrutinising everything they did. Every word, every look, every touch. Did she like him back? Were they just friends? With other girls, he seemed to know what they wanted or how they felt about him. With other girls, he hadn’t had to do much work and if he were honest with himself he hadn’t put much effort in to keep them on the hook. But Daisy was different. He wanted to make her happy, to make her smile. He was more careful, scared to do anything that might make her not like him. And he wanted her to like him, badly.

If James had noticed anything to do with his behaviour he hadn’t mentioned it. After snapping at him the first night he had backed off and though Sirius could tell he was longing to talk to him he hadn’t give him chance to.

Since James was going to be Gryffindor Team Captain now they had spent every day out on the Quidditch pitch strategizing for the next few games once term started. Even Daisy had relented to joining their sessions, on a broom, though she defaulted to being referee rather than play. The only time they spent off the pitch was when they’d gone to Diagon Alley for the day to get their new school supplies, topping the trip off by spending the afternoon in Fortescue’s Ice Cream shop with Alice. And on their last night before they headed down to London to catch the train they’d had a party on the roof, just the five of them, some beers and a small bonfire.

Due to all of their baggage this time the Potters decided that it was best to floo down to King’s Cross rather than drive and Daisy had barely touched down on platform nine and ¾ before Lily was upon her, ensnaring her in a hug as she said, ‘oh my god I’ve missed you! Home has been so boring! You should’ve warned me it was so dull I could’ve gone back to Marlene’s or something. I was lucky I could go to work-’ ‘Jesus Lil are you getting your revenge by smothering me,’ Daisy asked pulling out of the hug Lily had engulfed her in. ‘Sorry,’ Lily said, meekly, ‘just excited to see you.’ ‘I’m excited to see you too but at least let me breathe,’ Daisy ribbed, Lily rolled her eyes.

By now the boys had come through the network, appearing beside Daisy in rapid succession. Daisy braced herself for hostility but it never came. In fact she smiled at the boys, her summer of getting to know Sirius and by default the others, seemingly having softened her as she said, ‘hi boys.’ ‘Lil,’ Sirius nodded. James looked flummoxed, scrambling to reply as he daren’t miss the opportunity to speak to the red head, though all he could manage to say was, ‘hi Lily.’ Lily said nothing but nodded curtly at him though her look of neutrality disappeared as Remus appeared from behind them, a smile on his face as he said, ‘hey Lil, did you get my last letter?’ ‘Arrived this morning,’ she beamed as he moved past the group, following her as she headed towards the train, babbling about whatever book they were both reading. James watched agog. ‘Well, looks like Moony’s having more luck with Lily than you eh Prongs?’ Peter chuckled as he followed their path though he was knocked sideways for a moment as James shoved him before following where Lily and Remus were headed. Sirius and Daisy watched them go.

After a moment Daisy seemed to realise they hadn’t followed on and grabbed her trolley ready to head in the same direction, looking at Sirius whose eyes were on the train, as she said, ‘ready?’ ‘What? Oh yeah,’ he said, grabbing his own trolley as she set off, trying to ignore the way his mouth had gone suddenly dry just watching her. She didn’t notice. They’d had a late night and in the rush to get everyone out of the house she’d got changed in a flash. Her hair was all over the place from where she’d brushed it but not put it up and her green eyes had slight bags underneath from lack of sleep. And yet she still looked agonisingly pretty to him.

As they neared the train door, ready to leave their trolleys with the conductor to sort the larger luggage, he forced himself to stop staring, climbing onto the train first so he wouldn’t give in. When they found the boys they were already in a compartment, stuffing their carry-on bags up over head racks. Sirius shrugged off his back pack and threw it on the seat but before he could sit down Daisy tapped him on the shoulder.

‘Can you put my stuff up there for me? I’m just gonna go find Lil,’ she asked, handing him a backpack and a vanity case which he took dutifully. ‘She’s in the next compartment down,’ Remus said looking up from the bag he was rooting through to explain, ‘Marlene and Alice were already there so that’s why we stopped here.’ ‘Thanks, Moony,’ Daisy smiled, before heading out of the compartment, sliding the door closed quietly behind her. Sirius watched as she disappeared before he turned to place her stuff up over head making sure it was secure before he took a seat next to Peter, who was already counting his change for the trolley lady. James however wasn’t distracted. In fact he was looking squarely at the black-haired boy across from him his arms folded across his chest as he watched Sirius, who was now stuffing his jacket into his bag. Sirius didn’t look up at first, too busy trying to corral the hefty leather jacket into the bag in a manner that left the rest of his things accessible. Remus however picked up on it immediately, placing his own bag by his feet as he eyed the pair of them.

As Sirius finished up, he looked up and met James’ stern gaze. He knew what the boy was probably going to ask but he feigned ignorance anyway as he asked, ‘what?’ ‘Don’t what me,’ James said like a disappointed parent, ‘spill.’ ‘What are you talking about?’ Sirius asked, his charade continuing. ‘I’ve given you two weeks. Two whole weeks to mull over whatever it is you’re hiding but now I want to know,’ James said firmly. ‘Prongs,’ Sirius sighed. ‘What’s this?’ Peter said his eyes wide as his interest was piqued. Remus too looked on with curiosity. ‘Sirius has been upset about something since he got to mine,’ James said. ‘Is it your parents?’ Peter asked. ‘No, no it’s not that though I know that’s been bothering him,’ James answered as though the older boy wasn’t in the room and couldn’t speak for himself. ‘I’m fine,’ Sirius protested. ‘You have seemed off mate,’ Remus chipped in not wavering as Sirius stared him down. ‘So go on,’ James said, ‘It’s nothing,’ Sirius said, rolling his eyes. But James’ gaze never wavered, the pressure feeling heavier now all eyes were on him. Sirius sighed and relented, ‘okay maybe you’re right.’ ‘So what is it?’ Remus asked. ‘I,’ he sighed, realising that there was no turning back. If he didn’t tell them James would only carry on badgering him and if he did it in front of her she might start to get suspicious. So, in an effort to be brave he said, ‘I sorta like Daisy. Like, really like her.’ ‘About time you realised,’ Remus chuckled. ‘Wait you know?’ Sirius said agog at the smirk on Remus’ scarred face. ‘Well, I figured,’ Remus shrugged. ‘Prongs?’ Sirius said, his eyes leaving the sandy haired boy to see if this was news to anyone else. James seemed only half shocked. ‘Well I thought it was something to do with Daisy but I wasn’t hundred percent on what it was,’ he admitted. ‘Well I had no idea,’ Peter said earnestly. ‘That’s no surprise,’ Remus ribbed earning a chuckle from the cabin.

When the laughter died down all eyes fell on Sirius as James said, ‘so what do you think you’re going to do?’ ‘What do you mean?’ Sirius asked confused. ‘He means you’re hardly a novice in situations like this,’ Remus smirked. ‘Yeah when are you going to ask her out?’ Peter agreed. ‘I don’t know if I am,’ Sirius said truthfully. ‘Why not?’ James asked, confused. ‘Because she’s Daisy,’ Sirius said as if it was obvious. ‘And?’ Remus asked. ‘And she’s part of us now,’ he said, unsure how they hadn’t all realised why he would be reluctant to do so, ‘I wouldn’t want to jeopardise her being part of this group or lose her as a friend if it all went to pot.’ ‘Why would that happen?’ James said. ‘It might,’ Sirius reasoned, ‘besides I don’t even know if she likes me. And what if she doesn’t and I ask her out and then everything feels weird? I just think I’m better off leaving it.’ ‘Well when you put it like that I can see your point,’ James said. ‘Yeah Prongs is right,’ Peter said.

‘I think you’re wrong,’ Remus said seriously. ‘Moony,’ Sirius sighed. All eyes fell on Remus but he didn’t concede instead he looked at Sirius whose face had fallen into a frown as doubts were cast over his reasoning.

‘Because what if you’re wrong?’ Remus argued, ‘what if you both like each other?’ ‘We don’t know that,’ Sirius said, ignoring the flutter inside him at the idea of it. ‘You never know unless you ask her,’ Remus countered. ‘Rem, Sirius is right,’ James said, ‘I mean what if they get together and it all goes wrong?’ ‘Then they get over it,’ Remus said. ‘And if it’s too hard?’ Sirius asked, ‘do you want to have to pick between us?’ ‘He’s got a point,’ Peter said, ‘I don’t want to lose either of them.’ ‘You’re all focused on it going wrong,’ Remus said rolling his eyes. ‘Because it might,’ Sirius grunted. ‘But you two could be really happy,’ Remus said, ‘look if you don’t want to ask her out then it’s your choice but I’m not going to pretend like it doesn’t make sense for you two to be together.’ ‘Moony-’ Sirius said, ready to break into a tirade of how none of it made sense. Of how there wasn’t even proof she liked him as more than a friend let alone for them to spend the rest of their lives together as Remus made it sound, yet before he could the door slid open, Daisy appearing in the doorway. Everyone shifted awkwardly making her face fall in confusion, ‘what have I missed?’

Young, ambitious and sometimes slightly naive, Emilia Grey has always been driven by her desire to succeed in life and meet any goals she sets by any means necessary. The youngest daughter of Muggle dentist ANDREW GREY and nurse GINA GREY, Emilia’s background was a fairly average one by Muggle standards. From a working class background, Emilia grew up in a tiny street house off Brick Lane in East London with her older sister KEIRA and her grandma PEGGY. Although Emilia had no memory of the incident, her parents were killed in a car accident when she was two years old. The Grey family were not a wealthy one, with their parents working long hours struggling to pay off their mortgage before their deaths- a burden which was then left to their grandma. In Emilia’s memory, it was her sister who took up the role as surrogate mother to her, with her grandma often working in the local pub pulling pints to get them by. Whilst their family circumstances were unusual, blended families were not uncommon enough for people to ask questions, which was just as well as there was more to the Grey family than first meets the eye. Unlike most Muggle-Born sorcerers, Emilia knew she was a witch from around the age of six when Keira received her letter to Hogwarts. 

The two sisters had been practising magic long before Keira’s letter from Dumbledore arrived and some of Emilia’s earliest and fondest memories was of her sister tucking her into bed on a night and watching as stars twinkled and moved across the ceiling. Her sister’s magic had always been more visual than Emilia’s which seemed to act more like forces of nature than the beautiful imagery Keira produced. According to her sister she first wondered if she shared her magic when she found their cat Marmalade floating through the air alongside her Barbie dolls, but Keira’s memories of her magic tend to be somewhat darker. A determined girl, Emilia had always felt she was destined for more than her little school in London and became frustrated by schoolyard bullying from boys who tried to silence her or pull on hair as she tried to answer questions in class. Emilia had always had a voice and wasn’t afraid to use it, though to horror she had found that temper with bullies had sometimes resulted in little boys glued to the ceiling or crying tears of glitter that made their eyes itchy and sore. Her final few years of school leading up to Hogwarts consisted of Emilia doing her best to exercise self-control which unbeknownst to her she would need in bags when she began attending school alongside Keira. 

Sorted into Slytherin, the first thing Emilia remembered was the horror on her sister’s face as she went to join the table of disgusted faces who knew that the name Grey meant only two things. Mudblood and trouble. Having heard at length the bullying Keira had received due to her Muggle background, Emilia was braced for a difficult time at Hogwarts. Though she hadn’t specifically asked the hat not to place her in Slytherin she wondered why it had so willingly thrown her into the snake pit of purists knowing it would immediately make her life harder. Settling amongst them all Emilia watched as people moved away from her on the bench, words were muttered, older students sneered and braced the whole ordeal utterly emotionless. The first few months at Hogwarts were particularly lonely ones in Slytherin, though Emilia did make friends in class- the first being MAREN LINWOOD, a kind and fellow Muggle-Born student whose sister had experienced a similar ordeal during her time at Hogwarts. Muggle-Borns in Slytherin were incredibly rare but it was a comfort to know they were not a complete anomaly and that ADAIRIA LINWOOD had come out of the experience alive and well with friends. Tapping into the determination she’d had at Primary School Emilia refused to be beaten, put her game face on and showed her year group what she was made of. 

An incredibly talented student she quickly became known as one of the more intelligent students in her year group, joining choir with Maren and becoming better friends with more of her friends through duelling club where she became close with Gryffindors CRESSIDA ABERCROMBIE and CASSIOPEIA KIM. Complicated witches who had a passion for being straight up and doing their own thing separate from the crowd who had a similar energy to Emilia. After becoming close with the Gryffindor gang and showing she had enough duelling ability to even put JAMES POTTER on his back with one hand behind her back her life became a lot easier. She found a group of people who were willing to go to bat for her, but also became a prime target for the likes of JASPER AVERY, LARKIN MULCIBER, SEVERUS SNAPE who did their best to break her unwavering confidence. By the time Emilia graduated she was battered and bruised but she had made it and was determined to use her experience to change the world around her. Moving back in with her sister and grandma, Emilia began attempting to get a job at The Daily Prophet. She had always been interested in journalism, her nose buried in various editions of The Times, The New York Ghost, The Prophet or magazines like Vogue to get an overview of what was happening in the world. 

Emilia wanted to be a journalist because she cared about the stories of the people she read about and issues like Muggle-Born rights or corruption in the Ministry bothered her more than she believed it did the average person. Whilst most of her friends were supporters of Sorcerers for Equality, Emilia believed she could make a bigger difference with her words- she just needed the platform to do so. By the time she was accepted to work at the paper, Emilia was able to line her bedroom walls with the amount of rejection letters she had received, but by sheer determination and persistence she had received an acceptance letter and happily quit her job at Rosa Lee Teabag to start her new life making a real difference in the world. Sadly her position hadn’t been anywhere, Emilia felt she could make a difference and was working under RITA SKEETER as a journalism researcher in Society and Scandals, finding gossip for Rita to turn into a story far different from the one she’d given her. What interesting leads she did find were quickly snatched out of her hand, prompting Emilia to use her cunning to get ahead. CORNELIUS CRABBE was an Auror from a Scared Twenty-Eight family described by Rita as an “eligible bachelor” and who had been staring with lustful eyes at Emilia at a society party she’d been forced to attend with Rita. 

What had first made her blood run cold after her friend THEODORE STEBBINS showed her the photograph presented an opportunity. “Crabbe ditches Pure-Bloods for Muggle-Borns” definitely had a ring to it and Crabbe seemed to think so too when she pushed the image toward him in his office, but Emilia had a better idea than ruining a singular purist. Emilia wanted information, off the record, protection of his identity in exchange for whatever would make a headline. It was a bit of a gamble on her end which Emilia was glad to find out paid off though it was under more macabre circumstances that she would have liked. Not long after BENJY FENWICK was attacked, Cornelius sought her out in the crowd, pulling her into an alleyway and telling her it had been a vampire who had attacked him. Armed with the information that the Ministry had no leads and had failed to protect him, Emilia returned to the Prophet and ran up her first front page article on her secondhand typewriter. Walking through town that following morning as everyone gripped the paper and whispered her name Emilia finally knew what it felt like to be a story breaking journalist. Her soul felt alive and even as she saw the disgruntled look on DAISY HOOKUM and Rita Skeeter’s face, she realised she would do anything to ensure she continued to have that feeling, whatever it might take and whatever she might have to do she would do it.

10 moments that made LSU-Florida so heated, including 2 from 2017’s game

This series just keeps ramping up.

The LSU Tigers beat the No. 21 Florida Gators this Saturday in Gainesville, the 64th meeting between the two. This series has been around for a while, but the rivalry has gone to new heights recently, and it’s all thanks to a lot of moments accumulating over the last 11 years.

1. In 2006, the “jump pass” was born.

Florida scheduled LSU for homecoming, even though the spread for this top-10 battle was dead even. Senior quarterback Chris Leak was the starter during Urban Meyer’s Year 2, but the Gators had a unique weapon in freshman quarterback Tim Tebow.

He was used mostly as a situational runner on short yardage and goal-line downs, but his first career TD pass, to tight end Tate Casey, was on this jump pass, a throwback play from the 1990s:

"In practice, when we were running it with our defense," Tebow told SB Nation via phone interview, "I just actually caught the ball, ran it to the line of scrimmage, jumped up, and all the linebackers went up, and Tate was open, so Coach was kind of like, ‘Well, that might actually work!’"

How the actual play ended up during the game was a bit different than practice that week, though.

"They snap me the ball, and I see Tate get grabbed right off the line of scrimmage," Tebow told SB Nation. "So I get to the line of scrimmage, and I jump and I try to buy a little time, and you can see me kind of double clutch it. Finally he gets off the jam, and I kind of give it a lot of air and throw it in the back of the end zone, and he’s able to make a good play."

2. 2007’s game had a heated buildup.

Tebow took over Meyer’s offense as a sophomore in 2007. LSU fans got ahold of Tebow’s phone number and bombarded it.

"Honestly, it just put a little fuel to the fire," Tebow recalled. "All the death threats toward my family and friends and stuff was a little much, but honestly it was just fuel to the fire and I was just so focused."

The calls started on Tuesday, and Tebow eventually turned off the phone. According to the Associated Press, he had to listen to each text and voicemail before being able to delete it.

When the Gators took a 10-0 lead, the QB taunted LSU fans with a phone gesture:

"It was not planned at all," Tebow said. "When I got to the end zone and I looked up right in front of the student section, and there were like 30,000 people giving me the bird, it was just instinct. Most of them had probably been calling me earlier that week, so it was just a little friendly reminder, saying, hey."

3. And then 2007’s game was an epic classic.

Florida was up 24-14 at the start of the fourth quarter, but LSU scored two unanswered touchdowns in the fourth. The last was the game-winner, thanks to a LSU’s fifth fourth-down conversion, which set up a Jacob Hester touchdown.

4. In 2010, LSU beat Florida on the wackiest fake field goal ever.

Even though I witnessed this play in person, I still can’t believe it was pulled off. Florida came in at No. 14 with a loss, and LSU was undefeated at No. 12. The Gators pulled within three with 3:21 left. On the next LSU drive, the Tigers managed to get to the Florida 36 and then faced fourth-and-3.

The Tigers lined up to kick a field goal, then did the unthinkable — holder Derek Helton flipped the ball over his shoulder to kicker Josh Jasper, who picked up the bouncing ball and got the first down.

The play was reviewed and stood as a legal lateral. The conversion set up a 33-29 LSU victory.

5. In 2013, former LSU head coach Les Miles went on a glorious “hammer-and-nail” rant.

In 2012, Florida won a ground-and-pound, 14-6 victory. The next year, LSU won, 17-6, in Death Valley.

A reporter asked Miles about a contrast between the two games — how LSU had gone from being the nail to being the hammer. Miles didn’t like that:

Here’s what happens. Two very quality teams take the field and compete like a son of a bitch for victory. You know what? It’s not a hammer and a nail relationship. It’s an opportunity for an opponent to be equal, and to raise their level of play in such a fashion that they win. And that’s how this thing works, that in fact you respect the opponent, and he’s not the hammer, and he’s not the frickin’ nail, OK? He’s the opponent. You understand?

I’m just letting you know, I resent that. I resent the fact that suddenly, we were nailed. You got it? I mean honest to Pete’s. Shit, we’re a pretty good team last year. I thought we played like a son of a bitch in that statement. I felt differently than the nail, so you know.

6. In 2015, LSU converted a fake field goal ... again.

In the fourth quarter with 10 minutes left, LSU was faced with a fourth-and-13, and LSU’s Trent Domingue lined up for a field goal. Domingue ran around the left end for a touchdown to give his team a 35-28 lead, which was the final score.

7. In 2016, Hurricane Matthew brought things to new heights.

The bad blood got started after Florida, which was set to host LSU, postponed the game due to safety concerns from the impending threat of Hurricane Matthew.

Then came weeks of public, ugly, back-and-forth, open feuding between the programs, and Florida being accused by media members of “being scared” to play LSU. Finally, the game was rescheduled to Nov. 19 at LSU, with 2017’s game changing locations in return.

There was a pregame scuffle, which a Florida DB later said he caused on purpose ...

... and the Gators defeated the Tigers, 16-10. The win was sealed on a goal-line stand:

Florida played LSU’s hype rap song in the locker room afterward.

“[Florida players] got some guts; they got some pride,” Florida’s Jim McElwain said postgame. “They were called out. And you know what amazes me? People call people out when there’s actual tragedy happening. Unbelievable to me.”

Things haven’t exactly lightened up since then. LSU’s spring game was canceled from its stadium due to lightning, aaaand:

9. During the ‘17 game, there was a BAND CONTROVERSY.

Florida played “I Won’t Back Down” after the third quarter to honor Gainesville native Tom Petty. It made for an awesome scene at the Swamp:

The LSU band apparently played while the Petty tribute was ongoing. This made some Florida fans really mad:

The LSU band’s explanation:

Clarification on the 3-4th quarter situation last night. As is customary and tradition for LSU for every game over several decades, at the end of the 3rd quarter Tiger Band always plays Pregame/Touchdown for LSU. The plan was for LSU to honor their decades-old tradition while Florida honored their singing tradition simultaneously. Then right after LSU finished their Pregame, a tribute was to ensue. To help facilitate this, the LSU band started their Pregame tradition early with :10 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter. At no time was it the intentions of Tiger Band to disrespect or interrupt a tribute of someone we consider a musical icon and apologize to anyone thinking this was the case.

10. LSU won, and the Tigers clapped back at UF’s coach.

During the Matthew rescheduling saga of 2016, Florida was accused in some circles of playing politics with the hurricane to avoid playing LSU. After the Gators won on the last play, McElwain was unsparing in criticizing LSU.
