A funny idea of what would happen if, after even being revealed as a liar, a fraud, a con-artist, and just generally pathetic whelp of a human being, if the Wizard wasn't immediately ousted from his role as ruler of Oz and instead was chosen to lead despite his glaring inadequacies.

But good thing that's fantasy and just make-believe and wouldn't happen in real life! (:

the stupidest thing i’ve ever heard in my life is “why do you ship jegulus when you can ship prongsfoot?” why do you eat apples when you can eat oranges? why do you take a shower when you can take a bath? why do you drink tea when you can drink coffee?

I really do love these kinds of characters: characters who are confident yet insecure, harsh yet kind, genius yet could also be clueless at times, so sure of oneself and one's abilities, yet could also not know how they could contribute to something bigger in this group project called life.

Perhaps it's the mystery that surrounds them. No, not the "tall, dark, and handsome" kind of mystery, but the kind of mystery that billows like smoke whenever you open the packaging to a puzzle, or the heavy fog that guards the gates to a new world, or even a new universe that you're about to step into. The contradiction, the beautifully enigmatic beings that are these characters, the warring sides that long and strive for domination of their bodies presents something thought-provoking that it could invite the most prestigious of scholars to study them.

You see, these characters are not just characters; they're journeys that one must experience to understand, but even then, you can't confidently say that you know them 100% because it seems as though each day adds yet another layer of complexity to their character, a new level that one must go through to proceed through the next. And the best part of all this, you are rewarded with something so profound that it coaxes you to look at your own self.

Because, you see, these characters can be so complex that only a few people would willingly try and understand them; these characters can be so complex that only fewer people would willingly try to accept them. These characters can be so complex that they feel more human than the majority of the people in this world of ours.

They don't conform to trends, they don't conform to standards, even if they long to be accepted into something there is always a part of them that recolis whenever they are being placed into a bucket in an effort to "fit in" because some unconscious, maybe subconscious, part of them understand that an adjective or two is simply unable to even begin to describe who they are, what they represent, and what they contribute to this plane of existence.

They have brains, they have hearts, they have souls, they have humanity, even.

That is why I refuse to believe that these characters have no other purpose than fleeting entertainment.

While, yes, there are no such thing as mages or fire-breathing dragons or fairies or mermaids or whatever fantastical creature you can think of. But there are people who are vain, who are selfish, who are ruthless, who are liars, who are murderous, who are evil. And there are people who are humble, who are selfless, who are kind, who are truthful, who are good. However, human as we are, it's impossible for us to be purely good; there are times when we make mistakes, whether intentionally or not for example. And these characters represent that. They embody the nuances of what it's like to be human, to war between desire and longing and desire and longing. They are the soldiers sent to war to kill to protect and bring peace and not even know if they've managed to include the ones so dear to them in that bubble of protection and peace. They are the fathers who fully understand their sons are in the wrong, but even amid a stern lecture, they can't help but worry about whether or not they're harmed. They are the child who had to lie and adjust for a friend, only to ask them if they can drop the act in private later because they know it's wrong.

They are the lessons we understand that we should learn and implement, but we just can't seem to find it in ourselves to empty our cup to leave room for those said lessons because we are too afraid of the unpredictable and different.

That is what makes these characters important. That's what makes these characters human.

That's what makes these characters so difficult to understand. And that's why I love them.

“Everyone,” Sirius said, standing up from his seat at the table. “I have several promotions to make today.”

“What?” James asked.

“Glad you asked, Prongs. First- drumroll please- James, you’re being promoted from best friend to best man!”

James gasped. “Oh my God, it happened?” he squealed. “I am so happy for you two, oh my gosh.”

“Right? Anyways,” Sirius clapped his hands excitedly. “Hope, Lyall, you’re officially my in-laws to be- congrats, by the way. Aren’t I such a gem to have around?”

Hope dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief as Lyall held her hand. “You really are, Sirius. I’m so glad my boy got someone good.” Letting go of her husband’s hand, she enveloped Remus in a tight hug.

“Ma,” he gasped. “I need to breathe, Ma.”

“Let me have this,” she muttered. Still, Sirius could tell that she’d loosened her grip.

“Moving on,” Sirius grinned. “Pete- you’ve been promoted from best friend to best man too, courtesy of my moon.”

“Aw, sweet!” Peter fist-pumped. “Congrats to you two, but I gotta say- I saw it coming from day one.”

“You did not,” Sirius said, kicking Peter under the table playfully.

Peter stuck out his tongue. “Did too.”

“Did not-”

“Did too.”

“I guess I’m promoting myself,” Remus sighed, evidently having escaped his mother’s grasp. “From boyfriend to fiancé.” He brought up his hand so the red diamond shone in the light.

“I got you a great ring, right, Moons? Red for Gryffindor and our loooove-”

“Sirius, you bought the most expensive one you could. It’s just a coincidence that it’s red.”

“Lies and slander.”

Remus and James both needing mobility aids.

Remus with forearm crutches and James with a cane.

Remus who was too embarrassed and felt like a faker each time he used his mobility aid in public.

James who started needing a cane and quickly got used to using it in public to help Remus feel less embarrassed about needing help.

James who lets strangers be rude to him about his mobility aids, because he doesn’t want to start a scene.

Remus who will trip those people with his crutch and then curse them out.

James and Remus who use Mobility Aids and uses that card to get Regulus or Sirius to do what they want.

“Sirius,” Remus said, once he’d successfully ushered James and Peter out of the dorm. “I think I’m in love with you.”

Sirius didn’t say a word, only staring at his friend with his mouth agape. 

The silence was deafening.

“Are you… gonna say anything?” Remus asked haltingly.

Sirius held up a finger, running his other hand over his face. “One second, Moony. Once I stop feeling like I’m going to go into cardiac arrest, I’ll talk.”

Remus laughed awkwardly. “Alright, then. I hope that’s a good thing.”

A minute, then another, passed.

“Alright. I’m good now,” SIrius said, looking considerably less shell-shocked than before. “What I really want to say right now, Moony, is that I think I love you, too.”

“Oh. Uh,” Remus chewed on his lip. “Okay. I was wondering, though, Pads- want to go out with me to Hogsmeade on Saturday?”

“Of course I do,” Sirius replied, smiling- and not his signature grin, either. A real, true, genuine smile.

“Amazing. Well, uh… yeah.” Remus offered an awkward smile. “So…”

“Oh, Moony.” Sirius stepped closer. “You know what McGonagall would say to this whole situation?”

“...that she saw it coming for years?”

“Well, yes, but she’d be glad that someone took initiative, because it sure as hell wasn’t going to be me who asked.”

“And why not?”

“Merlin, Moonpie, have you seen yourself? Intimidating as fuck, let me tell you.”

“...Sirius. You do realize I’m built like a string bean, right?”
