One Direction Urge Fans To ‘Put Pressure On World Leaders’ With #Action1D

This one is dedicated to all those moany, cynical haterz who try to claim that One Direction aren’t worthy of being the idols of millions upon millions of fans across the globe.

THEY ARE NOW LITERALLY ENCOURAGING YOUNG PEOPLE TO TRY AND CHANGE THE WORLD AND GET INVOLVED WITH POLITICS, ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?

Yes, on top of the huge amounts of charity work carried out by our four fave boys, coupled with their massive hearts and regular good deeds, the superstars have now launched Action1D - a movement that the boys hope will literally change the world.

You go, babes.

Unveiled over on Liam Payne’s Twitter page, One Direction have created a brand spankin’ new YouTube video to explain exactly what they hope to achieve with a little help from their dedicated fanbase.

Kicking off the arty black and white vid, 21-year-old Harry Styles explains: “2015 is a year like no other and we want you to really make it count.

“You guys are really amazing and through the years you have shown us what you can achieve if you rally together.

“At two historic summits in September and December, world leaders will make decisions that affect important human issues, like extreme poverty, inequality, and climate change.”

Louis Tomlinson, in a tantalizingly see-through T-Shirt, adds: “So now’s the time for all of us to have our say, take action, and raise our voices to show that we care.

“We can be part of something that actually makes a difference to our future and help people that need the support.”

Niall Horan follows with: “Time and time again you’ve shown us how incredible, passionate, and creative you all are and now we want to ask you to come together with us and use that to make a change for good.”

Liam requests: “Please will you join us to put pressure on our leaders, all you need to do is tell us what you want your world to look like in the future.

“You can make videos or send us pics, it’s easy. Just complete one of the actions listed on the site.”

Back to Niall, who flawlessly rounds the video off with: “Become part of Action 1D, make your voice heard and make 2015 the year we change our future forever.”

The boys’ website has shown that a whole load of their fans have already got involved in the politics of world change, with the site also teasing three more brand new videos of the hotties set to come our way.

The dates for your diary? A solo Louis vid on 13th July, a Niam extravaganza on the 20th July and solo Harry on the 27th.

TAKE ACTION WITH 1D AND SUPPORT INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

One Direction announced their partnership with Action2015 to campaign for a better future and asking our involvement to call upon world leaders to set ambitious goals to fight poverty, inequality and climate change. RainbowDirection/Takemehomefromnarnia and World Almighty see this as a chance for all of us to make a very real difference in the world. We are thousands, and if we bring our voices together, we can bring about more positive change than if we work alone.

In 2015 the Millennium Development Goals expire. This September, world leaders will set new development goals for the next fifteen years to tackle climate change, as well as poverty and inequality, worldwide. This is important to every single one of us, and it’s important that the goals that are set are inclusive of all genders, orientations, religions, ethnicities, etc because discrimination leads to inequality, poverty and the slowing down of development.

In countries where discrimination of LGBTQ+ people and people of certain religions, genders and ethnicities is reinforced by the law, these people do not enjoy equal rights to education (due to bullying or simple lack of access), housing (being disowned by family), and health (HIV/AIDS prevention). These inequalities are unacceptable in themselves, and they can also lead to entire communities being deprived of resources for development, as demonstrated by the story of Alex and Michael, two gay Ugandan men, recounted here.

Therefore, please join us in getting world leaders to make ambitious commitments to inclusive development. Your voice could influence world leaders at two crucial United Nations summits later in the year. And as part of Rainbow Direction/Takemehomefromnarnia and World Almighty, let’s join forces to increase our chances of being visible and having our voices heard.

We think that the world leaders should explicitly condemn discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression, as well as religion, race, ethnicity and cultural identity. They should also call for data on the experiences of LGBTQ+ people and other minorities.

So let’s tell them about our experiences! Of course, our diversity is our biggest asset. There may be many world issues you feel passionate about, and we encourage you to speak about all of those in your submission. As members of the Rainbow Direction and World Almighty communities we encourage you to also include your personal experiences of discrimination in your submission, and to accompany that with a warm plea for world leaders to make eradication of discrimination an explicit goal for the future. You could include the above recommendation as well. And one thing’s for sure - the more rainbows, the more diversity, the better!

Dear Leader... Record a max. 30 seconds long video of yourself telling your leaders/government what things you want to see changed for the LGBTQ+ community in your country/state/county. Remember to start with “Dear...” Here is an overview on homophobic laws in countries worldwide

“I am a...” Record a video telling Action1D that you are a member and/or supporter of the LGBTQ+ community or a Rainbow Directioner in less than 5 additional words!  Examples: X

Moving together. Record a short video of you wearing rainbow/pride socks, laces or shoes (or little rainbows on your shoes) or kicking a rainbow coloured ball.  

Post a link to your video(s) on your blog and tag them #rainbow direction and #world almighty. We will make them into a compilation and share them further!

What do we want to achieve with this?

Awareness - We believe that education is key in order for change to happen, especially when it comes to LGBTQ+ issues that many people are still drastically uninformed about. This week we will reblog one of our educational posts every day for you to read and explore.

Sign this petition “Unisex restrooms and locker rooms in public schools ” Unisex restrooms have been a big deal lately, but a lot of public schools don't have them. We want to start making a change on that - for transgender, non-cis and agender youth - by signing this petition on unisex bathrooms in public schools in the US. 

Sign this petition “ Give marriage equality to all genders including non-binary genders, clarify gender equality laws to include non-binary genders and allow non-binary gendered people to have their gender recognised officially by law.” There are around 250,000 people in the UK who identify as non-binary.Under the Equality Act of 2010 discrimination against those citizens who have, are having or intend to have a medical or social transition to change their sex is made illegal. However this does not include all those who do not identify within the binary gender system. This leaves a large number of people potentially not protected by this act designed to bring equality for all.  With only 53 more signatures,and completing this petition, we can help make a change on that.

Sign this petition “Noosa Council - have a heart and support Marriage Equality” You don’t always have to go big to make an impact. Sometimes, even having just a regional council change their mind on issues like same-sex marriage can be an example for a country to go into active improvement - if not, then at least we helped the people of Noosa enjoy more equality.

Sign this petition “Stop Trans Reparative Treatment at CAMH Toronto” When Leelah Alcorn’s case reached the broad public, the topic of conversion therapies became a lot more prominent and people started to demand this form of “treatment” to end. The  Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Toronto is still practicing this form of treatment and we want to see it being stopped. We can start out in signing this petition!

Sign this petition “Allow Australian same sex couples to freely get married” Civil unions in Australia have not only not fulfilled their promise of equal rights and respect for same-sex couples, they appear to have made matters worse. Instead of eliminating discrimination they have entrenched it. Instead of removing stigma they have inflamed it. Instead of being a step towards full equality they are a step away. We can help LGBTQ+ Australians move forward again by signing this petition.

Sign this petition “Petition President Obama and future presidents to start campaigning for pro-LGBT rights and the abolishment of any and all anti-LGBT laws” The issue of anti-LGBT laws and discrimination against people of the LGBT community has only lightly been addressed with The Nation’s President, Barack Obama, as well as the Supreme Court. Let’s all help to promote and/or encourage Obama (and future presidents) to start campaigning for pro-LGBT/equal rights and the ban of any and all discrimination against any person based on gender, race, sexual-orientation, or any other personal attribute/characteristic.
