I’m fully sobbing rn bc I’m rewatching Scallop and what Sugar told Carmy over the phone, is the worst/best thing you can tell a workaholic, is both a bullet right in the 💔 and the most liberating words you can utter to someone who lost himself in the passion that consumed him and is still trapped underneath the ashes.

Then cut to someone who hasn’t yet walked down that road, someone who is not tainted yet, someone who still has it.

That is what triggered his sprint to whom he wrongly thought at that point, was his only way out of that hopeless place Sugar reminded he was still trapped in.

But later he came to realize, and stop denying, that he loved that place and that that place was not separated from him, nor was it separated from Sydney, they were all the same thing. And extricate himself from it, might kill him, but for Syd, he was willing to make that ultimate sacrifice. Even though she doesn’t want him to sacrifice for her, she wants him to be there for her.

This dychotomy can only be solved by both letting go at the same time. She no longer wanting him to be there for her and he no longer “taking one for the team”. No more martyrs. No one has to sacrifice, they both have to face their fears.

His fear of peace can only be overcome by achieving it first. And we already know where that is. Whether he’s gonna realize that too late or not after looking for it in all the wrong places, that’s the cliffhanger, not if the restaurant ceases operations or not. It won’t.

Her fear of failure can only be overcome by no longer giving an actual fuck about winning or not, just doing it for the people, not for the approval, for the love of the game, no one is keeping score.

So in both cases they have one common fear: the shoe dropping. And it already did. It didn’t break them. We will find out next season that it only made them stronger.

The only question is: will they remain together after this?

I say they will because they’re family now and once you’re a Bear, you’re a Bear forever.
