but seriously and fully i do think people insisting no one unconditionally loves buck and no one cares when he’s hurting or asks how he’s doing or tries to lift him up is my villain origin story in this fandom because i don’t get it. maddie and chim were constantly checking in on him after tommy broke up with him and brought him jee to cheer him up. there is so much love and care in his life that doesn’t go away because of his issues and fears. the entire 118 family and, yes, eddie. eddie who he goes to when everyone else is too much who doesn’t join in on a visit buck rotation because he knows it’s not what buck needs but the second buck comes to him he’s there with an open door and a beer.

like the whole entire point of bucks abandonment issues is that it doesn’t matter if the people are actually abandoning him, he feels like they are. but they care. bobby, who is more like a dad to him than his father. chimney, who treats him like a little brother but would no doubt die for him. hen, who always listens and gives any advice that she can. maddie, his sister, who raised him more than their parents did, who would protect him and care for him at any costs. eddie, his best friend who knows him inside and out and loves him LOVES him, in whatever capacity that may be to you personally. to claim that their bond is one sided or to downplay eddie’s place in his life, for me, is to misunderstand the character on a fundamental level.

and yeah. i ship buddie. its my number one ship and it always has been and it always will be, even through my multi shipping and enjoying other love interests in the moment, but this isn’t really about shipping. i guess its hard to take that out of it when buck and eddie’s dynamic is one of my favorite parts of the show, and i wont pretend there may not be a bias there but even if you take eddie diaz out of the equation.

buck has an entire family at the 118 and in their extended family - in may and josh and albert and so many other people who care for him. to deny that just makes no sense for me. just because he isn’t their ONLY care or loved one or family doesn’t mean he isn’t an important one that matters deeply.

So naturally, this turns into karaoke debates, neon panic, Miami Vice cosplay, and maybe a not-so-casual mention of Tommy.

I had to write more missing scenes—this crew was never going to pull off a chill planning session or party. I don’t regret anything, but my dog does. P.S. I was rewatching those chaotic early Season 7 episodes last night, and this basically wrote itself. If you’ve ever wondered how that party got planned… this is my imagination of the spiral behind the glitter. P.S. 2: Woahza… episode 8x14?? What a fire episode—literally. finally saw it today. I was on edge the entire time. It’s been a while since we’ve had something that intense and engaging. Can’t wait to see how it all wraps up next week. might rant about it later.

the thing i think about sometimes that just makes me go ‘evil kermit meme it’s about buddie? always has been’ is the shooting arc and how none of it had to be about buck but it’s yet another thing where one of them goes through The Horrors™️ but they’re so intrinsically linked that it can’t just be one it has to be both.

really, buck has no reason to be there. eddie goes because he has a relationship with charlie and wants to make sure that he’s okay. buck is there because eddie is there. buck is there so that he can be splashed with eddie’s blood, forced to watch eddie fall at his feet, forced to crawl under a fire truck and pull eddie to safety.

anyone could have saved eddie. narratively if you want it to be about eddie, to lead to eddie’s season 5 arc and his exploration of life away from the 118 you can do the same story without buck but.

buck is there because the story isn’t about eddie. it’s about eddieandbuck. it has to be about both of them like so many of the arcs that came before it. the well. the tsunami. the lawsuit. their stories are so interwoven and i just think the shooting arc is one of the most beautifully done examples of that where it’s so hard to ignore how intentional it is that they’re telling a story about not eddie, not buck, but eddieandbuck.

because when something happens to one of them, it happens to both of them. eddie gets shot and it stops buck’s heart for a moment. he’s frozen right there with eddie, unable to breathe or move, because eddie getting shot is the same as buck getting shot, just in a different way.

it’s makes me insane.
