Ugh. Pls no. Dozens of interesting BL pilots are sadly never heard from again (and where is Wish You Luck WHERE IS IT???) and then there's 9Naa doing their thing again.

Then again, it's not like they have to pay for intimacy coordinators. 😐

Wait, are they still in Japan? Is this maybe old material that they've cut into a new mini series? I didn't watch Kiseki but didn't the twins have the same look back then?

9naa themselves aren't advertising it and it seems to be an ad for lip tint so maybe it's not as explicit?

But until someone else speaks up like Cheque Wacharawee (or quietly leaves and never mentions 9naa again like... basically everyone else involved in 9naa projects) we won't really know for sure. Personally, I find this stuff far more worrisome than Jinloe or BOC's casting decisions for Addicted Heroin and 4 Minutes so I'll never watch anything by 9naa again.

I actually have this data in a spreadsheet! I think it’s partly the fact that I work with data for a living but mostly it’s my adhd and the fact that BL is one of my longest running hyperfixations.

I started my BL watch list in 2023 but I backdated it with everything I've watched and it tracks/sorts series by region, rating, production company etc. with a separate sheet for birthdates.

I just have this need to know certain things, ya know? Like it isn't necessary in way, shape or form for me to have this data on hand at any given moment, yet I need to know it!

Anywho, give me the word and I’ll gladly pull that trigger! I’ve been toying with the idea of doing something along these lines but was too lazy to get around to it 😅

I am very tempted to put together a "He Was Born When" post, with birthdates of actors that made me go *head in hands* (like Ryan being born 23.12.2002....), but I don't want to impose that existential crisis on more people lol

UPDATES on QL Series which won the support grant funding from THACCA - Thailand's Agency for promoting Soft Power

1. KNOCK OUT หมัดน็อกล็อกหัวใจ (produced by Dee Hup House)

Premiered May 16 | Ongoing (5/12 episodes) | Currently airing on WeTV, every Friday

Synopsis: Keen was in the middle of a job interview when he received sudden news of his father's death. He had no choice but to use all his life savings to organize the funeral. Soon harassed by debt collectors, he discovered that his father had left behind a significant debt from an informal loan. Note on the THACCA Grant Funding, previously explained by @virtualtadpole

I went and looked into the official grant criteria, and the distinction you made here is correct, except that the network and independent categories are entirely separate from the BL/GL group. Of the lakorn/series categories, they had 30 million baht earmarked for at least 3 TV network projects, another 30 milion for at least 5 independent studios, 3 million for at least 2 children's shows (which was redistributed as no one submitted a project), and 32 million baht for BL/GL, which was further divided into two subcategories: 20 million baht for at least 4 BL/GL productions (at least 8 episodes of at least 30 minutes, with a total budget of at least 6 million baht), and 12 million baht for at least 3 BL/GL newcomer productions (at least 6 episodes of at least 20 minutes, with a total budget of at least 4 million baht). Applicants are required to have previously produced a BL/GL or participated in a BL/GL production (respectively for each subcategory, presumably).

Oh, and the grant statement says for projects to be considered, they need to (1) promote works that show variety and internationally competitive quality, OR (2) promote generation of employment and revenue for the industry, OR (3) showcase cultural worth and reflect and publicize the Thai identity to the international stage.

[THACCA] did say they received 894 submissions in total, with 88 final recipients. I do think the selection committee would be more partial to stuff more likely to sell internationally, though.

The announcement mentions a working window of April - 9 September... [Although] they aren't required to finish production by 9 September, but they have to submit a production plan with at least three days of principal photography having been completed

Notably, Nonkul Chanon Santinatornkul (I Feel You Linger In The Air) is part of the Film Committee and Tong Thanayut Thakoonauttaya (Kinnporsche, Tharntype, Second Chance) is part of the Series Committee.

Can I just say I'm really proud of Nonkul? I remember when I Feel You Linger In The Air won the Y Universe award in 2023, he got on stage and mentioned THACCA in his speech, promising continual support to local productions and they really did it 🥹

❣️ Moonlight Chicken - one of my most anticipated shows over the past year and admittedly the first 2 episodes had me a bit unsure about the pacing and the characters as it was so divergent, which changed rapidly with episode 3 though and by episode 4 I was hooked lol. The storytelling approach is unconventional and so many nuances about the characters and their lives feel so real that it hits home hard lol and the realism + minimalism is a very nice change of scenery coming from gmmtv. The cast is superb to say the least and also the ppl behind the scenes deserve tons of praise because it’s obvious that it takes a good amount of life experience as well as in directing and writing to narrate these stories in the distinct way that they do and I applaud everyone who’s part of it because you can tell they put their heart and soul into this production. 9/10.

👎🏻 609 Bedtime Story - this is a bummer because I was really excited for this one, also since it’s from the eclipse director, and it had a very promising start but then it got real weird. Like why make it so complicated? there’s no need for that. We get the idea and what you’re trying to tell us. So why make the plot so tangled? sigh. On the other hand I really liked Ohm in this role and it might be his best one yet. He was finally able to showcase that he is capable of more than just 1 facial expression lmao so I liked him as Mum but unfortunately he wasn’t able to save the plot. what a shame. 6/10.

Other news from the BL world

❗️ Jam & Film, the mains of the BL To Sir, With Love, will be starring in a new series together under OneD. Further details have yet to be announced.

❗️ The main actors for the upcoming BL Pit Babe were announced. The main roles will be played by Pon Thanapon & Benz Natthapong. Others include Pavel Phoom, Nut Supanut, Michael Kiettisak and more.

❗️ The upcoming BL My Universe will consist of 12 stories with 12 couples and 24 chapters. 

❗️ The upcoming BLs Buddy Line Y Animal, as well as Man Suang, have commenced shooting. The release date for both is still unknown. 

❗️ Shootings for the upcoming multi-strand BL Our Skyy 2 have started. The episodes for KluenDao (Star in My Mind), PuenTalay (Vice Versa) and AkkAye (The Eclipse) have wrapped filming. Dates are still unknown. 

❗️ Actor Mew Suppasit (TharnType) expressed his frustration with his fans in a series of tweets where he stated that #MewGulf was never real and everything that him and his costar hinted at in the past was merely for fanservice purposes as him and G. were told to act like a couple according to their contract. He said him and G. have not spoken in over 2 years and told his fans to finally move on, as their obsession is having a negative effect on both their personal lives. He further told certain fans to get psychological help if they are unable to separate fiction from reality and stop their unhealthy obsession with a ship that never existed. Reactions from the fandom have been ambiguous. At the same time, filming for his upcoming BL Love Is like a Cat has begun. 

❗️ Actor Jeff Satur has left Be On Cloud. He will still be part of his upcoming series Wuju Bakery. 

❗️ The Chinese BL Novel “Silent Reading” has been adapted into a series called Justice in the Dark. Due to censorship, it looks like the show will mostly be bromance-themed. 

❗️ Fittings for the upcoming Domundi BL Punk Spy have started. An air date has not been announced. 

❗️ The currently airing BL Boyband has stopped airing on Youtube as announced by the production company and is currently only available for national fans. It is still unclear whether it will continue to be available for international audiences. 

❗️ Thai BL Triage won “Best BL Series of the Year” at this year’s BL News Awards

❗️ Thai BL Love Mechanics won "Best of Thai Series" and "Best of BL Series" at this year’s WeTV Awards.

So apparently neither Dew Nitikorn and Tor Atagorn nor Yoon Phusanu (who had a cameo that was apparently cut) have been paid for their work in For Him the Series (and that's just the people we know about). They've all spoken up about it on their twitter accounts presumably after their NDAs expired.

And on top of that, Tor has come forward about being stalked and harrassed on and off set, to the point where he's now in therapy and unsure whether he'll continue his career in acting:

The company behind For Him (and Unforgotten Night) is Y.Entertainment and yeah, 30min episodes with filler behind-the-scenes content and really bad audio seems to be the least of their problems.
