Did you know?

In my last post I wrote about the ferocious Honey badgers, and how very few animals will try to mess with them. Well, cheetahs have evolved to use this to their advantage.

Cheetahs rely mainly on their speed, not only to catch prey, but also to evade larger predators like lions. But young cheetah cubs aren't able to run very fast, so instead their mother will leave them hidden in tall grasses for much of the day, while she goes out hunting. This is where the Honey badger comes in. Cheetah cubs are born with white fur down their backs and grey flanks, very similar to how Honey badgers look. This means that when a predator comes across a cheetah cub curled up in the grass, it looks similar enough to a Honey badger that most of the time, the predator will decide not to risk an attack.

Theriotype List

So, to start out, for context, I think we've all seen a skeptic comment about how all therians are only "cool" animals. I personally have always enjoyed keeping up with those with "rarer" theriotypes and even using them as examples when these kinds of arguments are brought up, so I've decided to do a little bit of a personal project, that being creating a huge list of the wide variety within the therian community. Below is the list I've created so far, sorted by general species, then adding in subspecies/breeds, all in alphabetical order.

Please keep in mind and understand that for now, I am only putting Earthen animals on this list, mainly so I and the post can keep up, because there's a LOT here already and I know there are hundreds more out there. I just love thinking of shifter reader as different werebeast/animals like if we could shift into a fox there would just be the of giggling or high pitched laughing with the sound of quick pattering paws following or if we could change into a tiger and one of the bats hear a coo like moo sound and they end up thinking bat cow somehow got into the house but it was just us bored or smth (if I was a tiger I would definitely flop on the family members like there pillows lol -💠)

Just imagine this, reader: a little baby who can't control their werebeast form. So every night, their form changes—one minute you're a tiny little lion cub, the next you're a tiny honey badger the size of your mommy's fist. One night, your mom wakes up to squeaks in the night; you've accidentally turned into a little bat and you can't turn back. You can barely use your echolocation, so you’re bumping into walls. Your mom can't help but laugh as she takes you to her room to put you to rest. The next morning, you're the same little old you, but you always seem to cause a ruckus in the night.

Half the house had chased you down once for not wanting to take a bath. You had turned into a cheetah cub just to dash away from them. Your little legs did not get you far, and Titus had picked you up by the scruff the second you were caught. But seeing that pool of bubbles and water, this had to be illegal! You let out little roars to scare Bruce away and nipped at Dick so he could put you down, but you barely had any big, sharp teeth, and your roar was just a really loud meow from their perspective.

You think you're a house cat when, in reality, you're just a very big tiger. You'll lounge on Jason's lap even though you're over 200 pounds, and you're particularly crushing him, but it's all worth it to snuggle with your big brother. Once, while Duke was doing homework in the living room, you laid completely on top of him and took a nap. He was on the floor for two hours straight, but he ended up sleeping because your purrs were like a lullaby.

Did you know that male lions will sometimes pretend to lose to their cubs to give their little babies an ego boost? Well, that's what Bruce does. You'll transform into a lion and jump on top of him from a very high place. He'll dramatically fall on his back and fake being wounded by your blow, even though it was just a paw slap in reality. But you'll get all sad if he stays on the ground for too long, and you'll whimper, licking at whatever small scratch you gave him, even though you did little to no damage. And you'll get fussy when he's laughing at you like nothing happened.

The Gotham press is on Timothy Jackson Drake Wayne ass! Why? Because every time he rolls up his sleeves, there are small scratches and marks on his arms, even when wearing a T-shirt. Some reporters think he's getting busy; others think he's been in a fistfight. Some say he's self-harming. When they finally ask him about the scars on his arms and legs, he answers, "Hyena," then leaves the reporters speechless. Well, he's not wrong; he has a little hyena at home who thinks it's so funny to use their older brother as a chew toy, even though they have their own toys. Even if you're just a pup, your roughhousing does nothing to him.

Been playing Dwarf Fortress recently, and I just got really scared by a notification that one of my dwarf's beloved pet rabbit got into a fight with a honey badger alongside some of my war animals.

But it turns out the rabbit basically saw my cheetah and grizzly rip the honey badger to shreds and jumped in to bite one of its toes off as it was dying.

Why Can't We Be Friends?

Before John can spend his rare downtime bonding with his childhood friend Angela Foley's son for the next two weeks, he first has to find someone to babysit the... weird looking creature that's apparently his nephew in all but blood's best friend. Not an easy feat given how clingy to the point of being attached to the hip the ferret shaped thing is.

Tucker has to bribe his pet(?) with hanging with the Green Lanterns along with the rest of the Justice League up in the Watchtower(they'll definitely be discussing that later) just to convince him to not try and tagalong. And that's how Hal finds himself dealing with the major headache that is Phantom.

No, he's not exaggerating. That's exactly what the measly gremlin is with his constant demands for food, affection, or playtime from anyone who's present and insistence on getting into whatever he can, one never-ending headache. What makes it even more taxing is how everyone else, even Batman is so wrapped up in how "cute and lovable" the little bugger is they see nothing wrong with his annoying antics.

And as if it couldn't get any worse, the tiny menace seems to have taken a liking to him the most out of all the League and won't quit following him around. It's like dealing with an abnormally needy and scarily intelligent cat, and Hal absolutely abhors cats.

That said, he does find himself feeling just a smidge of regret when he allows his stress over a grueling patrol to get the best of him and yells at the little creep for drinking his coffee. If it'll get everyone off his back and stop Phantom from making those hurt puppy dog eyes at him he'll make it up to the diminutive devil later somehow. Right after he sneaks a nap in while he's stuck on monitor duty.

But of course Phantom won't even allow him that, as he's now pestering him rather persistently with that aggravating chirping and trilling. Since napping is no longer an option he'll just see what Phantom wants and hopefully get rid of him for at least a few minutes afterwards. So Hal slowly drags himself into consciousness, and is met with a large oddly colored hunk of swiss cheese?

Waking up a bit more he starts hearing the swiss cheese begging him for death. Okay, clearly something's wrong with this picture. Wiping the last of the sleep from his eyes Hal looks again, and is instantly screaming in horror upon realizing what he had mistook for swiss cheese in his sleepy haze is actually Sinestro, looking very much like he'd fought a school of piranhas and the piranhas won. With all the blood and all the chunks of missing flesh and skin Hal can see why his former mentor was pleading with him to end him.

And throughout all this that little monster Phantom is staring up at him, perched on the barely alive korugaran, covered in his blood and looking far too pleased with himself. If it weren't for Hal's training and fortitude he'd either be running scared or having a nervous breakdown. That doesn't stop him from being immensely relieved over no longer having to be on guard around Phantom once John finally comes to get the miniscule hellion off the Watchtower.

Though it would be nice if; Superman stopped trying to guilt trip him. *He swears on everything holy he's gonna find the biggest piece of kryptonite and shove it where the sun don't shine if he has to listen to how Phantom never would have did what he did if Hal hadn't been so harsh one more time.*

Wonder Woman ceased with her badgering about how he should have shown more appreciation towards Phantom and the gift he had bestowed upon him.*He'd love to see just how appreciative she'd be if it was Cheetah getting dumped in front of her all chewed... oh wait.*

Flash quit laughing at him. *Shut the hell up Allen. He did NOT scream like a little girl.*

And most of all, John and all the other GL dropped it about how they were so jealous he was the one Phantom gifted instead of them. *Seriously guys? With all that little miser put him through, that's what you're taking from it?*
