Adlet - In Inuit lore, a race of dogmen created by the union of a large red dog and an Inuit woman. The woman bore ten offspring, five weredogs and five normal dogs. Revolted by them, she put them on rafts and set them adrift on the ocean. The dogs did not perish, but eventually reached Europe. The five dogs intermarried among the white Europeans. The ugly weredogs turned into flesh-eating monsters who took up habitats in the northern lands.

Adlet, Erqigdlit
Origin: Inuit people (Alaska United States, Canada and Greenland) The Adlet are bloodthirsty, flesh-eating, werewolf-like creatures that attack anyone they encounter and are the result of a union between an Inuit woman and a giant dog. The Adlet wander the tundra in packs, seeking out Inuit villages to feed on.

Monstober Day 15: From Inuit folklore, the adlet, a tribe of inland people with human upper bodies and dog lower halves. They don't seem to be aggressive, though there are a few stories that claim they are cannibalistic. I based mine off of a photo of an Inuit man hunting seals. Faber-Castell brushpen, Windsor & Newton fine-line marker, and Prismacolor fine-line marker on Canson mixed media.

Adlets are a humanic-canine species from the frozen north. They appear to be humanoid in form with the features of a dog, usually resembling breeds of dogs that popularly pull sleds, and have adapted thick fur over most of their bodies to protect them from the dramatically low temperatures of their climate. Many of them layer clothing over this fur in order to retain additional heat, and craft these garments from the hides of their hunts. Fur-lined sealskin coats are hand crafted and adorn with trinkets and embellishments by their owners, and are seen as wearable art denoting personality and achievements.
Adlets have been known to build large communal lodges, preferring to live in their full packs instead of as individual families as they carry over many of the social norms from wolves. These lodges are akin to small towns in a single building and while they may give shelter to those lost in the snows, it is rare that they will allow anyone outside of their kin to stay for an extended period of time.
Because of their shared characteristics, Adlets do have a soft spot for Loup Garou and have been known to develop strong bonds with them. There have been a handful of known mixed relationships between the two that have resulted in hybrid children. These have become known as Adlet Garou, as they are usually born with the shapeshifting capabilities of their Loup Garou parent. ------------------------------------- If you are enjoying Creatura Grimoire, Please check out my Patreon to support the project! Creatuanary 2025 Challenge Day 11, Adlet A humanoid with doglike hind legs approaches. You have heard of stories of these creatures from the locals. They are in constant conflict with humans. Be careful, some rumors ray they are cannibals.

Hiiii you're my favourite monster artist ever and I was wondering if you could draw a Lamia, Nachzehrer, strix, succubus(scary, not sexy), glaistig, banshee, drekavac, rusalka, líderc(probably would be the coolest one to draw), homunculus, golem, asanbosam, chichipischekwan, adlet, tupilaq, chupacabra, cihuateteo, peuchen, churel, manananggal, or a gaki? Sorry for the long ass list I just absolutely love monsters and even if you don't draw any of these I'd really appreciate if you answered this ask just so I can share some of my favourite monsters. Love you ❤️❤️
This is in no way meant to be an angry response, but please be aware I am someone that does art as a full time job. I quite literally cannot afford to draw things unless I’m getting paid to.

Circles of Heaven
Circles of Heaven, Eustace Selden, 1998
Circles of Heaven (CoH) started off as a hard rebound against the Satanic Panic - by an evangelical kid. The goal was to make an RPG that would be considered holy. This... did not happen.
The author did his first writing when he was 14, which beats me by a year. Unlike me, he was raised in... well, a cult. The first version of CoH was about playing angels, but it was also full of proto-quiverfull eschatological heaven-justifies-the-means propaganda. By the time he was 17, his friends had successfully pulled him out of the cult and gotten him living with distant relatives in Tacoma. The author's changing worldview, the evolving music scene, some bootleg anime, and suggestions from the same friends - seriously, this friend group is fantastic - led to a major revision of the game. It was published locally in 1998, printed by a local shop and driven around to game stores and bookstores until they found some that would sell it.
Chargen is mostly random. You pick your Nobility and Corpus. Nobility is your rank, which doesn't let you order each other around but does apply to certain creatures. For example, Archdukes can give orders to insects; a Prince or Princess of Heaven can give orders to mammals (except humans). You get some alliterative skills related to your type of creature - Archdukes get bonuses to Clandestine, Collective, and Contaminate.
Corpus is your body, and I think it's a particularly fun part of the game. Characters in CoH are angels. They're not traditional biblical angels, because the bible is secretly the work of Satan - full of half-truths more dangerous than outright lies. Instead, they're inspired by the weirdest of monsters: adlets, nuckelavee, ouroboros, futakuchi-onna, penanggalan, and a several others. You are both a human being and your monster self at the same time. You can do things that either form could do, or even things that would need both a monster and a human in the same place at the same time, and it doesn't have to make sense to see.
You roll for your Hunt (the kind of people you're here on Earth to help or punish, gives skill bonuses), your Time (the hour each day where you have extra-special powers), your Vision (how you think the world could be made ideal, gives you more skill bonuses), and your Ruling Virtues. Oh, and your attributes. Those are done on a 5-15 scale generated from a d100 table. I did say this game was written in the early 90s.
You also roll for your equipment. Not boring mortal stuff, but for a wide variety of sacred items that you hold in potentia near you and can manifest at need. Shields of fire. Shadow citadels that can hide you overnight. Flocks of stained-glass butterflies that provide cover and distracting fascination. Daybreak, the mace made of pure sunlight. Nullblades that wield themselves and absorb bullets and magic alike. Fatehook, a crochet hook that can re-knot the fabric of the world - slow to use but flexible and devastating.
The system is mediocre. It's basically a heavily-stripped-down Rolemaster, with no critical hits or spell lists. If you can't come up with anything from Rolemaster that isn't the critical hits table, you're not alone. CoH's system sort of slid into my brain and slid right back out without making an impression.
The place the game is really lacking is art. Most of it is from early otaku who loved anime but had never taken an art class. The best of it turned out to be traced from manga. The cover was a black-and-white ouroboros on a white background, which, while still not particularly well-drawn, was at least striking on the shelf.
Eustace eventually moved on. In an interview in 2012 he said that writing the game was a cathartic experience for him, helping him understand where he came from and embrace where he was going. Once it was out, he didn't feel the need to keep writing. I hope he finds a creative spark again some day - I think a shorter version (with better art) would fit well with games like Mörk Borg and Songbirds.

Fanfic Development Progress
I've been brainstorming for my fanfiction, Book 4: Air, the Missing Element for the Water Tribe chapters. I had in the past decided to draw inspiration from Inuit mythology.
I thought to use the Adlet as a warring tribe of wolfman spirits for the Southern Water Tribe. But how to make that fit into the world and lore of Avatar proved to be difficult. I revisited an Inuit mythology video and found other creatures I could use for inspiration.
youtube
Chapter 5 is going to be Katara centric. Amongst other things, I plan for Katara to heal her mother wound that was unresolved by the end of Book 3.
Tumblr media
There's a creature called the Qallupilluit that would wait along the icy shores, luring children to them by humming. The child mistakes them for a parent and when they are close enough to realize this, the Qallupilluit snatches the child.
Tumblr media
Katara had done something similar to this while in the swamp. I could make this scene foreshadowing for the Qallupilluit spirit that Katara crosses in my Chapter 5.
Tumblr media
As I continued watching, I learned about the Mahaha and it reminded me of The Blue Spirit. The creature is similar to a man, but with blue skin, piercing white eyes and a frozen smile upon his face. When you hear the Mahaha's maniacal laughter, it is already too late. This creature kills its victims by tickling them to death.
Tumblr media
*Snorts* Zuko is a tickle monster 🤣
Sedna, the goddess of marine animals, is going to be reserved for my Northern Water Tribe chapter. Thinking of putting the Blue Spirit backstory in this same chapter too.
