she also said that the arab world knew her already, because she's been boxing for years, but that her dignity/honour was damaged because of the western world.

she then said she had her lord by her side no matter what, thanked him for her medal, said he's the greatest and said tahia djazair (long live algeria) 🇩🇿

it's obvious all this cyberbullying had a huge impact on her, anyone could tell she was extremely hurt. even her opponent kept posting stories on instagram claiming she was gonna fight a man, and comparing her to a monster too. imane didn't deserve any of that, and i'll never forgive y'all for doing this to a woman of color AGAIN. that's not what fucking feminism is supposed to look like!!!! i hope she sues all of them for throwing dirt on her name

the algerian president congratulated her and wrote a letter for her, saying that whatever the outcome to her next fight is, he'll keep supporting her.

Imane Khelif has instructed her lawyer to file a legal complaint following the disinformation spread about her gender during the Olympics.

Multiple high-profile individuals, like JK Rowling, posted and shared posts from people stating that Imane was a man and therefore should not be competing in the women's boxing.

And we shouldn't forget that Algeria is not strong on LGBT rights, so spreading this misinformation could have put Imane's life in danger. Luckily the Algerian Olympic delegation had her back from the start.

The end result of JK Rowling's obsessive transphobia is she's attacked a cis woman and will now potentially be sued for it.

I was asked why the moral panic around Algerian boxer Imane Khelif was so centred on trans people when there’s no evidence that she’s trans. I thought I’d share my thoughts publicly.

The reason is that, in many ways, transphobia isn’t about trans people, it’s about what trans people mean to ideologies of race and gender. The controversy about the Olympic boxers is linked to rising anxieties about the line between men and women becoming increasingly blurred in contemporary society. These anxieties are fuelled by right-wing movements who see rigid divisions between men and women as critical to maintaining white social, economic, and political control. Because trans people are seen as challenging the justification of gender norms and roles based on biology and reproduction, they’re targets of particularly intense hostility and violence. My colleague Blu Buchanan and I tracked that racial logic a bit more in depth in a truthout essay a few years ago. White supremacist ideologies are heavily invested in rigid gender norms and roles because they see them as necessary to white reproduction.

The moral panic about ‘gender ideology’ is about trans people, yes, but it’s also explicitly about cis men and women not conforming to gender ideals that see men and women as fundamentally different forms of life with different roles in a society organized around the nuclear family. Women have to act and look a certain way to be considered ‘really’ women, much in the way that gay men are deprecated as ‘not real men.’ This moral panic manifests in the disproportionate targeting of racialized women and especially Black women for not conforming to white ideals of femininity. This dynamic is only amplified in the context of elite sports given the pervasive association of athletic ability with masculinity, especially in contact and strength-based sports like boxing as opposed to, say, gymnastics.

World Boxing has announced that Algerian boxer Imane Khelif will NOT be allowed to compete against women at the upcoming Eindhoven Box Cup unless Khelif agrees to undergo a sex test.

The Algerian Boxing Committee will now be required to to demonstrate Khelif has XX chromosomes in order to compete against women at all World Boxing events.

PARIS, Aug 3 (Reuters) - The International Boxing Association (IBA) will award Italy's Angela Carini, who lost her welterweight round-of-16 bout against Algerian Imane Khelif at the Paris Olympics in 46 seconds on Thursday, $50,000 in prize money, it said on Friday.

Carini pulled out in the first round after the Algerian, who is at the heart of a gender row, pummelled the Italian with a barrage of punches.

The IBA, which was stripped of its international recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last year, said Carini would receive $50,000, her federation a further $25,000 and her coach an additional $25,000.
