The buffet included multiple summer barbeque party staples like marinated ribs, steaks and burgers, together with an assortment of sweets and refreshments. Like – why it's hero SCHOOL? Why school? Why think that kids fresh off from peaceful lives can immediately – be able to throw punches without hesitation, be able to make right decisions under stress and be mature while they're what? Still dumbasses who only after they turn 18-19 would learn abt responsibility and accountability?

Bitches be serious 🙄.

Like – in my opinion? They should've:

★ Let the hero school to be college than school. This way – by the time they would take entrance exams – they'd be physically and mentally more mature and better handle stress than if they'd be 15-16.

★ Let students have fucking career OPTIONS – like, let them choose what branche they wanna go in like – medical, law enforcement, firefighter, engineering, weapon development, political and etc. Let the hero college have career options ya can choose from.

★ Make the hero branche the most popular yet the hardest to really enroll in. This way – fucking scums like Endeavor wouldn't happen so much cuz studying is hard and there's a lot of practice where college would see – if you're here cuz you really wanna be a hero – or you're here just for profit.

★ Make it so that college gives huge stipends – especially for – medics, heroes, law enforcements, firefighters, teachers(I actually think that everyone should've get stipends in equal amounts but like – we know equality doesn't exist). Also make it so that there is – sponsorships, high status if you'd be able to enter one of the stated paths, make the studying hard – but the status and fame and stipends absolutely worth it.

And god – this way – there wouldn't be the clutter of heroes in mha world or in similar ones – and it'd actually make the heroes respected as individuals who managed to make it through the tir path that is hero one.

But like yeah – I'm done – for now.

ok so i was tagged by the lovely @lexiklecksi for the 11/11/11 tag, the rules are: answer the 11 questions she asked me, make up my own 11 questions and then tag 11 ppl to answer those (so if you want you can skip to the questions at the bottom lmao). however as a fair warning: this got Way too long probably bc im rambly today. i tried to limit the stream of consciousness but….

1. current musical obsession: Frank Ocean and related sort of neo-r&b stuff - while writing this im also discovering Childish Gambino’s “Awaken, My Love!” (and also the song Golden Brown, but not bc im listening to it but bc im learning it on both guitar and piano)

2. 3 things i always take with me:

- wallet (or at least my id)

3. what (or who) i miss most in lockdown: i dont rly remember? im so used to the situation by now that i kind of forget to miss what i did when things were “normal”... but i guess going to bars w/ friends, and just being able to go shopping when i need smth

4. pick: either only read 1 book or only read books picked by someone else: i wouldn’t be able to only read one book for the rest of my life! so definitely the second option (esp if i can pick the person who picks the books)

5. why i found your blog/followed you and if i intend to stay: uhh you followed me and when i checked your blog i liked the vibe i guess? also you were v nice in the tags of my music stuff! also ya i like it here, so im staying for a while

6. when and why did i last cry: i genuinely dont know for sure.. the last time i specifically remember crying was my granddad’s funeral, which is three yrs ago this month, but i do know ive cried once or twice since then, i just dont remember for sure when and why.

wait i do remember, i think the last time was when i saw Richard Says Goodbye (live music and movies or books are basically the only reason i rly cry, im not an emotional crier, dont know why).

- Gollum (even though i have read hp but still havent read lotr, ive read the hobbit like 4 times tho)

- i think the hard dichotomy btwn white/black magic or like light/dark and good/bad in most fiction is often v flawed bc thats not how the world works, everything is grey areas (e.g. the Jedi are not better than the Sith, both have deeply flawed philosophies). the Force (or any magic for that matter) is not inherently good or evil, it just is. nature isnt abt good or evil, isnt abt opposites but abt balance.

and especially if you work with the occult and magical, i think thats all abt walking the edge between light and dark, life and death, night and day, good and bad etc…

so to answer the question: grey magic lmao, its all abt balance

- teleportation i think, bc while flying is very cool, i think teleportation has more practical uses (although also has danger involved, such as what happens if you teleport into a space that is already occupied by a person or an object? but for the sake of argument, prolly teleportation)

- do not even get me started on time travel.. the implications of time travel to the past are…… complicated to say the least (it only works if you believe in hard determinism, which i wholly do not). so in a practical sense, def to the future (although that is also Problematic within the constraints of our four-dimensional universe/experience).

in a philosophical sense though, ignoring all the paradoxes and laws of time and space, id still pick the future (or maybe no time travel at all), bc i think the past is the past for a reason. we remember it, we learn from it, but ultimately we must leave it behind.

my philosophical problem with traveling to the future is more that you cant just. skip life. so if you travel to the future, it has to be way beyond your own life and direct influence, or youll interfere with yourself and your own future, and thats scientifically, psychologically /and/ philosophically a v bad idea all round, i think.

9. which thoughts keep me awake at night: almost never specific thoughts, but quite often anxiety abt the near future. but theres no like, lingering issues that keep me awake.

10. what id do with you if we were locked up together for 24hrs: i think i’d really like to write with you! make poetry, song lyrics, make art! bc we could rly learn from each other i think and also we could just rly pick each others brain abt mundane, important and transcendental stuff ya know?

11. ask anything: do you have concrete, long term plans for the future, maybe even backup plans? a clear vision of how the rest of your life is going to go? or are you more the type to do what makes you happy now and figure it out as you go along?

So uh, I've been thinking about a hypothetical Trucy Wright: Act Attorney and here is the very poorly written outline for it because yeah. No spoilers except the Apollo Trucy thing. Tw death, murder, blood and grieving so yeah.

Trucy's first case is literally her first ever case. This is a flashback case. We follow her as she wakes up, slightly stressed about today, Phoenix gives her cereal and a pep talk and a cryptic message. Trucy asks where Papa is, it is Miles, they are married. Phoenix is cryptic about that too. He stays behind as he "has to buy groceries" so Trucy heads into the office. Apollo greets her, it's clear they know they're siblings, and he hands her a case. Miles is prosecuting. She is fucking terrified. She goes to the crime scene, Gumshoe is the detective and he's educating his teenage sons, constant confusion of who's who, because they are twins and they look very like Gumshoe, it'll be kinda funny. Its a simple investigation. During the investigation, the player can check Trucy's profile and the profile system shows character's middle names now. We get some gems such as Klavier Hyacintha Gavin later on, the reasoning behind this is coz Trucy is nosy. The important one here is Trucy Mia Wright. She says something about how she chose her own middle name when Phoenix adopted her and she chose Mia after learning about her. Yada yada. Trucy wins the case. Edgeworth is very proud, Phoenix is in the gallery and there's a flash of him crying proud tears, Apollo hugs her afterwards, Athena congrats her.

Next case, flash forward three years later, we do not see Phoenix and nobody really mentions him. Thats because he's fucking dead but we don't know that yet. This case is a Fey case, we meet Maya who is married to Franziska and they're technically on honeymoon in Kurain and Pearl becomes the Maya to Trucy's Phoenix. Its another fey murder case. There are a few mentions of Trucy's admiration of Mia, mainly just a mirror of a few lines she's said and a conversation where her and Maya talk about her, Trucy says she would have loved to meet her and Maya explains how her spirit has been dormant for ages now and how she assumes she's moved on.

"If you want I can try and channel-"

"No no no no NO. Its ok!"

This is our first hint that Phoenix is no longer with us, but we don't know until later thats what she means. Sebastian is the prosecutor, the player finds out that Miles is taking a break from prosecuting work, Trucy already knew of course, and Sebastian is dubbed Chief until he comes back, Fran says

"It would've been me were I not on my literal honeymoon right now." We are not told why yet, but it is because of Phoenix. Kay Faraday is the detective, somebody murders someone and frames Maya, no-one is shocked by this. We also get an update on Iris, she's thriving. She wins yada yada.

Next case, a couple of months later, Trucy gets a call from a friend that the player can't identify at first. Its Katrielle Layton. She needs Trucy's legal knowledge because someone is sueing her detective agency because have you seen how they practice. This, of course, turns to murder and we get another surprise when we meet the prosecutor. Who probably has a licence to practise law in England? Simon Blackquill, he is British ok. Yeah, Trucy wins with Kat's help, we meet Ernest and Sherl and Alfendi and Flora if we have time. I miss them. Trucy and Kat have a conversation that cryptically addresses their fathers and their "whereabouts" and living up to their legacy. We see Trucy cry, but only a similar flash to AJ:AA and we do not know why. Yet.

Next case, flashback case. Trucy is the assistant on this case but we still play as her, even in the court sections since Phoenix is prepping her for the bar and getting her to give him the answers. The bar exam is only in three days. Klavier is prosecuting. The case somehow relates to Kristoph and there's the whole mirror dynamic thing of when Phoenix lost his badge. Kristoph is dead by now, but the whole thing is there was a plot inside prison to make Phoenix pay for putting a bunch of them in, Kristoph was the assumed ring leader until he died and the cops now dont know who's running it. Somebody (Godot? That would hurt big time) was their inside man, sent to figure that out, so when whoever it was turned up dead, the whole thing got exposed. We get a bit of a Mia moment in the trial where Trucy tells Phoenix to flip over the receipt (thats evidence for some reason). Phoenix says "I feel like that shouldn't be the second time someone has said that to me". The killer is found, by Phoenix, and put into isolation, as have most of the other participants. We then see Trucy get her badge. They have a conversation and Trucy says Phoenix basically forgot about it for a couple of months. The case closes with a foreboding "and I forgot about it too, until..."

Next case. Phoenix is fucking murdered. Trucy gets a phone call late at night, she hears laboured breathing on the other end and a "don't forget I love you" from Phoenix. Trucy pulls a simba and goes "dad? Dad?!!" And the line goes dead. The player is presented with a choice of who to call. They have two phone calls. Who they choose first makes no difference, but the second time they are forced to choose Ema who will trace Phoenix's phone call. They could call Apollo and he would comfort her, Miles would panic, Maya would say he was just messing around, Athena would sense her distress and say she's coming over etc. You could attempt to call Phoenix back but he would not answer and you would be allowed to call someone else. Ema then traces the phone call and we follow Trucy to the crime scene. We get a truly haunting cutscene where everything kinda goes blurry except Phoenix's face and the blood. Trucy doesn't cry. She stands there in shock. The WAA is there in various states of shock and upset. Return of grieving Apollo I guess. Miles turns up and the look on his face is haunting. Trucy and him make eye contact and they share the thought of something has to be done. And then. "The bar association took me off the case and Papa too, they said we were too close to it. As a result, we never found out who did it... Until now." And we see a determined Trucy face. We jump forward to where we last saw Trucy, she and Pearl are coming back from England and its a bit more cheery. Trucy sends Pearl on a train back to Kurain and heads on home. She enters the house and we see Miles pouring over Phoenix's case. He jumps up and runs towards her.

"Trucy! I think I have a lead, I-"

"Papa, you're tired, go to bed." (Or better dialogue along those lines)

Its clear he's been doing this sort of thing a lot.

"But I do! At least...I think I do..."

He trails off and rests his head in his hands.

"Do I? Or am I just a mess?"

Trucy gives him a sad smile.

"C'mon let's go to bed."

Miles returns the sad smile and fades out like all ace attorney characters do. The player is given the option to look around. There's probably some emotional dialogue and bits that give clues to how she and Miles have been fairing the past 3 years. Answer is, not very well. Examine the pile of papers on the table. Trucy will take a look and then realise her papa may have actually been onto something. Its a diagram of which prisoners knew each other, with an arrow from each leading to a defense attorney we have never met. Trucy is confused, but she calls for Miles anyway. He comes back downstairs and Trucy asks him about this lead he found.

"Well I realised all those prisoners would know this defense attorney (insert name?)"

"Why? And why would they be suspicious?'

"They (pronouns?) Were always the defense attorney who would take on the cases of those Wright had already accused. They gained a reputation of being the doomed defense attorney."

"So... They knew all the prisoners in the plot and they had a grudge against daddy... Papa I think you're onto something!"

And the case continues, since we already know who's been accused, it plays out more like an investigations game, Trucy has to prove it, with Miles' help of course, literally every other character we know and love plays a part in making sure this guy gets a guilty verdict. There is still a courtroom bit and a moment when all is looking dark, Trucy literally has a full on breakdown as the Judge threatens to remove her from the case again. Miles is by her side, they're both technically prosecution here i guess. Miles, however, is too deep in his own mental breakdown to help. Everyone else is in the gallery besides Pearl. Pearl channels Phoenix as a last hope sort of thing. Phoenix comforts her and tells her to keep fighting, he touches her badge and probably says some sort of bullshit about it. The Judge is about to bang the gavel when Trucy and Phoenix object at the same time. Miles looks up and realises whats going on and he objects too, a little later. The battle goes on until it finishes and the other attorney has a breakdown that steals little bits from every other murderer Phoenix has put behind bars.This is the one time seeing the word guilty on your screen feels good. There's a whole heartwarming celebration at the end, Phoenix sticks around for a little bit and everyone gets a bit of closure. Its assumed he's gone since Pearl passes out and Trucy dips out for a sec. She's away from the festivities, staring at the badge in her hand and we see someone coming up behind her. Maya is channelling Phoenix now. He gives Trucy a hug and utters the words "the only time a lawyer can cry is when its all over and, Trucy darling, my light, its over." Echoing both Diego and Mia.

And the screen fades to black with a final hug between father and daughter.

You stumbled, heart racing, but forced yourself to keep running. A shot zinged by your head, missing you by millimetres as it splintered into the brick wall to your left, spitting bits of rock across the alley. You ducked, shielding your face with your with your arm, refusing to slow as you were pelted with the debris. There wasn’t time. If you stopped now, you were dead. Or worse.

Your heart was a hammer in your chest trying to pound its way out, and your whole body screamed at you to stop, your mouth filling with the coppery tang of blood. Only your adrenaline kept you going, each breath harder than the last. So much for taking it easy on your first mission back.

Another blast obliterated all your thoughts and you moved on instinct, swerving to narrowly avoid the bullet aimed at your head. If your leg hadn’t been in a world of pain, you would have turned and fired off a few shots of your own, but you couldn’t risk your leg giving out. Your limp meant that they were gaining on you, and you couldn’t afford to slow down, even if it was to potentially kill one of the Hydra agents on your tail.

You skidded around the corner, praying that the alley wouldn’t lead to a dead end, dooming you to a shootout where the odds would be in their favour, six to one. It was nothing more than a fluke that you could keep going. You had no plan anymore, relying on instinct and luck from the moment your mission had been blown to bits twenty minutes ago. Someone had sold you out. You had walked into a trap, thinking the Hydra buyers had no clue you were really S.H.I.E.L.D. It was a miracle you had made it out, an explosive having gone off that wasn’t one of your own, providing just enough cover to make an escape. You had no idea who the hell had sold you out, but you couldn’t worry about it now. Not as you pushed over trash cans, hoping to create some sort of obstacle, no matter how pathetic.

Whirling around the next corner, you stumbled to a stop at the ten-foot chainlink fence blocking your escape. You swore. Your luck had run out. There was no way you could make it up and over with your leg in the state it was in. You scanned the alley, desperate for an escape that didn’t involve a shootout. Other than the large garbage container, the only other thing around was a beat up Tercel that was too far from the fence to use as an easy way over. You forced yourself to stay calm even if their echoing footsteps were getting closer. Then you noticed him. Leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest, one ankle crossed over the other, shrouded in the shadows as if he controlled them.

You whipped your dagger at him, knowing there was no faster way of knowing if what you saw was an illusion or if it was real. The chances of him actually being here were high enough that it was worth the risk of losing one of the many knives you had tucked into the folds of your combat suit.

With ease that wasn’t human, his hand snapped up, snatching the dagger from burying itself in his chest.

“You weren’t cleared for duty,” Loki remarked, his eyes dropping to your leg.

You ignored the pointed look, grabbing your gun and aiming it at the corner where the Hydra agents were mere seconds away from turning, “What? Annoyed you got called in on your day off?���

He twirled your dagger between his fingers, pushing off the wall without a word. You didn’t spare him more than a glance as you approached him, only needing to know he was by your side.

You sucked in a breath of surprise when his hand slid along your thigh, placing the dagger into your thigh holster.

“You’ll need it more than I will,” He crooned.

“That’s only because I can’t conjure more every time I lose one. Like some people I know,” You retorted, firing two shots as the first Hydra agent rounded the corner.

He crumpled to the ground, no longer moving, and you waited for the others, knowing they’d now be smarter about how they approached.

“There are five others.” You warned.

You didn’t have to tear your eyes away from the alley to know he had rolled his eyes, “Tell me something I don’t know.”

“Just do your job and make sure we don’t die.”

“Have you forgotten who you’re talking to?” He drawled, “Dying doesn’t take with me, darling.”

You adjusted your grip on the gun, “Fine. Then make sure I don’t die.”

“I thought you were capable of doing that yourself.”

A rain of fire came down on the two of you, and you dove behind the dumpster, dragging the God of Mischief with you. You leaned your back against the bin, the alley deafening with the blasts of gun shots.

“You’re hit.”

“What?” You fired around the corner, a cry letting you know you’d hit something you’d been hoping to.

You were about to fire off another round when Loki stopped you, the pressure of his fingers hurting far more than it should have, “Your arm.”

“What?” You looked down. Your combat suit was soaked with blood, but it looked like the shot hadn’t done more than graze you, “That’s what happens when you spend more time sassing me than watching my back.”

“You mortals don’t move fast enough,” He snatched your gun from your hands and fired a few shots of his own.

“Take that into consideration the next time you’re watching my back,” You answered, your voice dripping with venom.

You grabbed your gun back, but he shook his head and motioned toward the middle of the alley.

“Let’s not make things more complicated than they have to be, darling.”

Another series of shots seized your attention and you whirled to see what they were now shooting at. An image of Loki stood in the middle of the alley, a machine gun in its hands, pretending to fire at the three Hydra agents that were left. They had unleashed half of their ammo into the open air when someone yelled to cease fire.

Loki cocked his head in a daring gesture that seemed to ask if you ready.

The final shots echoed when you said, “I’m always ready, asshole.”

The two of you sprung from behind the dumpster, taking them by surprise. Your shots were quick and precise, providing cover for the god as he sprinted forward, knives in each of his hands. With predatory grace, he was death in emerald and black as he moved between the agents, finish the job with terrifying speed.

Loki ripped the dagger from the agent’s body and whirled to face you, “You should not have been on this mission.”

“The medic and Steve cleared me for duty,” You growled, “And this wouldn’t have been a problem if someone hadn’t sold me out. You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you?”

He strode towards you, stopping only when he was inches away, “What are you implying, mortal?”

You jutted your chin up, doing your best to look down at him despite the height difference, “Don’t ‘mortal’ me you arrogant witch. I’m asking because you have a penchant for chaos and have ears everywhere.

“Even if that were so,” He refused to confirm anything, darkened eyes searching your face, “Why wouldn’t I have said anything?”

You crossed your arms, brushing against his chest as you did, “I don’t know, Mischief, you have been bored lately.”

“This isn’t my idea of fun,” His voice was a dangerous whisper, void of all emotion, “But I will gladly kill whoever it was.”

You shivered involuntarily, “You can do that later. Right now, we need to get out of here.”

“You’re hurt,” He said to your back as you tried not to limp over to inspect the car for damage.

“Doesn’t matter,” You waved a hand. You were pleased when you saw there were only a few superficial bullet holes, “I’ll take care of it when we get out of here. There’ll be cops within minutes and there might be more of Hydra on their way here right now. There’s a safe house about a half hour drive from here, we can assess what to do from there.”

He said nothing, so you figured he agreed with your plan. With nothing to jimmy the lock, your only solution was to break the window. You were walking over to the driver’s side when the glass shattered. Your gun was out, ready for the threat, but it wasn’t necessary.

“What the hell are you doing?” You yelled over the sound of the alarm.

He raised a brow, his expression pure boredom, “Making sure you don’t break your mortal hand,”

“You didn’t have to be an ass about it,” You smacked him on the shoulder, “Give me a heads up next time.”

He stepped aside and you shot him a confused look, “What are you doing?”

“Giving you the chance to prove yourself, mortal.”

You swore and got in, your leg and arm feeling like an old elastic being stretched too far. You shouldn’t have been the one to do this. But the pain from the crouched position and the sound of sirens made it that you hotwired the car faster than you ever had and you tore out of the alley. A cop car raced down in the opposite direction as you pulled onto the street, and your heart lodged itself in your throat. You didn’t need the police on your tail as well as Hydra. Cops didn’t take kindly to dead bodies, even if they were Hydra and had been trying to kill you. Steve was already going to be pissed about such public murders, you didn’t need cops added to the equation.

“Mask the licence plate with a different set of numbers” You ordered, “When go through the tunnel, mask it again with a different set.”

Loki didn’t answer but you knew he would do it. The rest of the ride was silent until you made it far enough out of the city that your adrenaline had made way for anger.

“Can you explain to me why the hell you thought it was necessary to break that window if you weren’t planning on starting the car yourself?” You snarled, “And don’t you dare give me that mortal bullshit. I know you don’t actually care about my hand.”

You had cut it too close getting out of that alley. Setting off that alarm early hadn’t done anything other than alert the cops. Nothing about what had happened made any sense to you and the only thing you could think was that his stupidity could have had far more serious consequences.

“It adds a little excitement,” He chuckled.

“Dammit, Loki,” Your fingers tightened around the steering wheel, “Was it your plan to get me killed?”

He waved a hand, “Stop complaining. You’re fine, darling.”

“You should have hotwired the car yourself.”  

“I preferred not to.”

You sucked in a few deep breaths, counting down your inhales and exhales until all you felt was something that might have been disappointment, “I knew you were reckless and dangerous, but for christ’s sake Loki, you’re not supposed to be a danger to me.”  

There was a long pause, the soft drone of the weather update on the radio filling the silence.

“I can’t,” He muttered, his voice barely audible.

You tore your eyes from the road to spare him a glance, but all you saw was the emotionless mask he wore more often than not, “You can’t what?”

Another long pause, “Hot wire the car.”

Your brows furrowed in confusion, “What do you mean you can’t hotwire a car?”

He clenched his jaw and shook his head.

“You can’t be serious?” Despite trying your hardest, you couldn’t fight the smile on your face. Didn’t want to, and a laugh bubbled out. This was the best news you’d had all day. “I’ve seen you do stuff ten times more complicated, but this? Really?”

“Midgaridan transport is crude,” He scowled, “Ask me to hot wire a ship instead.”

“I’ll keep that in mind the next time we’re in space,” You said, laughing.

The rest of the ride was silent, though you were in a much better mood. And although your arm and leg were throbbing, the knowledge that Loki couldn’t hot wire a car, made it easier to ignore.

You pulled into the driveway, thankful that the drive to the safe house had gone off without a hitch. At least one part of your day hadn’t been a complete bust. You knew if there was anyone you could relay the intel from your mission to it was the Avengers, but the safe house was a better place to lay low, considering you were now someone’s loose end. Walking into the compound could be like walking into a death trap. And there were so many safe houses, and only so many people who knew all of the locations, that being here instead bought you more time to think.

You shut the car door behind you, trying to shut away the million worries running through your mind. You’d take care of your injuries, eat and then figure it all out.

Following Loki up the stairs to the cabin, you couldn’t help but smile once again and try your best not to burst out laughing. When he turned to let you unlock the door - to use the keypad he didn’t have clearance for - he noticed your grin and his eyes darkened.

“I don’t appreciate being laughed at, mortal.”

You groaned, “Again with this mortal crap. Get over it.”

“It is what you are”

You shoved past him to punch in the code, “Doesn’t mean I can’t still put you in your place.”

He put a hand on the doorframe, boxing you in, “Choose your next words very carefully,”

“Why should I?” Turning, you looked up at him with a raised brow, “What are you going to do about it, Loki?”

He stepped forward and you backed up into the door, nowhere else to go.

“Do you want to risk finding out, darling?” He purred.

Tilting your head back, you held his stare, “Try me.”

His emerald eyes darkened, boring into yours. The tension between your bodies was electric and you refused to back down first. He leaned even closer in response to the wordless dare, and your breathing shallowed.

“My point exactly,” You rasped when nothing happened.  

As if your words had broken the spell, his lips smashed against yours, pushing your further into the door as he pressed his body up against yours. You buried your hands in his hair pulling him even closer. He answered with a moan, hands sliding from your jaw, down your neck and all the way down until to your waist. His mouth was rough on yours, taking what he wanted. But you were no gentler on him, demanding entrance with your tongue. He immediately took the lead, a battle of wills neither of you was winning.

A high pitch trill and the vibration in your pocket let you know that someone was calling you.

You pushed him away and pulled out your phone, Steve’s number flashing across the screen.

“We have to stop doing this,” You snapped, ripping open the door and answering the call.

“I can, darling,” Loki crooned with a wolfish grin, just loud enough for you to hear over the sound of Steve’s voice in your ear, “Can you?”

Jaehyun checks the time on his phone. Eleven twenty-four. 

He can’t help but use the remainder of his energy to sigh. Exhausted is an understatement as to how tired he felt. All day he had been working on an assignment one of his professors dumped on his class last minute. And as much as he loves going to university, it’s one of those days where he feels particularly low and ambushed by the universe. 

He grudgingly gets himself prepared for bed, dragging his feet along the carpet floor. With another helpless sigh he picks up his toothbrush but immediately halt his slow movements when he hears your distinct ringtone blast from his phone. Jaehyun’s ears perk in attention. He wonders why you were ringing so late in the evening, did something happen? Were you hurt? Where the fuck where you? 

His mind urges him to answer quick causing him to drop the toothbrush in the bathroom sink. He couldn’t care about his dirty toothbrush right now. He’s too busy worrying what happened to you. 

“Hello?” 

“Hey…” you answer hesitantly. 

“You okay? What’s up?” he asks in concern. 

“Yeah, I’m just-- a little…” 

Even without finishing your sentence, he knows exactly how you feel. He is never wrong when it came to his gut instincts. Jaehyun knows that you’re craving  for company tonight but your boyfriend isn’t there to provide it. 

“Do you want to go out for a drive?” he interrupts you.

“Hold up-” your voice immediately picking up in tone. “You got your driver's licence and you didn’t tell me!?” 

He shyly chuckles. “I’ve been meaning to today, but this bitch of an assignment didn’t let me.” 

You laugh loudly on the other side, “I’d love to go on a midnight drive with you Jae.” 

He shouldn’t feel butterflies in his stomach when he hears you say that yet he does. His heart is swelling with a good type of emotion for the first time that day. “Get ready, I’ll be at your place in ten.” 

“Okay.. See you in a bit.” you say, hanging up the phone. 

Jaehyun exhales the breath he didn’t realise is holding. He completely scraps his night routine out the window and proceeds to get dressed for your spontaneous adventure. It would be his first time taking a friend out for a drive since passing the test but since it’s you, it makes a whole difference. 

Quickly grabbing his wallet from the top drawer, he quickly makes his way to the car. The winter months were soon approaching with the light winds that blew through his jacket. Being it already past eleven, he takes notice of the amount of cars out. Only a couple every few seconds, unlike during the early hours of the day where they would be bumper to bumper. Once he’s inside the car he connected his phone to the car and blasted some new tunes from Lauv for the short drive to your house. 

It’s quite obvious that Jaehyun had only recently got his driver’s license, though he practiced a lot, he’s still unfamiliar with some of the functions the car had. Nonetheless he arrives at your house without a problem. He reaches for his phone by the clutch and calls you. Within three rings, he hears your, “hello?”, his heart rate racing immediately. 

“I’m here dummy. Right in front.” he says. 

He sees you peek from the living room window to check if he were really there. He chuckles on the mic causing you to laugh lightly. 

“Had to make sure, you’ve fooled me too many times Jung.” you reply, strolling to your front door closing it once you’ve stepped outside. 

Jaehyun hangs up the phone and watches you walk towards the passenger side of the car. You naturally smile at your friend at the driver’s seat, you couldn’t help but make a comment about how he looked like a grown-up. 

“Wow, you really did pass. Congrats friend!” 

“Is that all I get? A congrats? No, I’ll treat you to a meal since you’re driving?” he teases. 

“Alright fine, since you are driving, I’ll buy us food this once. Where are we going?” you ask curiously. 

“Hmm… I’m feeling a little hungry and all I can think of is Mcdonalds at this time. Their chips man, you know how much I love those greasy potato sticks.” 

“Oh! Now that you mention it, I’d love to have them too. Go! Go! Go!” you pointed towards the road with a childlike smile. 

He couldn’t help it but smile with you. After all the work he’s done for his assignment, you were definitely his happy pill. The highlight of his day- no doubt. You notice the songs he has on in the car and take his phone to play some music that you thought were more suitable for your spontaneous adventure. Though you loved Lauv too, his songs didn’t seem to fit well with the atmosphere at that moment. 

“Sure go ahead, take my phone, change the music. It’s not like it’s my car.” he rolled his eyes while he smiles at you. 

“Oh shut up, you know I have good taste in music. I love Lauv but listen, there are songs perfect for night drives.” you explain to your friend. 

He ponders for a while at your reply, after only a couple of seconds, he begins to nod his head in agreement. “You’re right. But make sure you include that one song of his that’s always good to listen to at night.” 

“I know exactly which one, Paris in the Rain?” 

“I didn’t even need to give you hints.” he laughs out loud. 

“I’ve lost count how many times you’ve said you want to have that song playing in your car while you drive at night. You specifically said night.” emphasising the word to remind him that you know him a little too well.

Jaehyun merely chuckles at your reaction. Any time he’s with you, he becomes soft. His tough exterior is broken down with your presence and he knows exactly why. You have no idea you have his heart in your hands. How could you though? Having a boyfriend erases thoughts that your best friend even has feelings for you. 

You both talk about your day like usual, never getting tired of hearing what normal and boring things you did. Jaehyun talks about his frightening driving instructor for his test as well as that last minute assignment his lecturer gave his class a few days ago. You on the other hand couldn’t help but rant about the few small things that bothered you throughout the day, like people walking too slow on the sidewalk or when you notice that people chew with their mouth open. 

Jaehyun couldn’t help but laugh loudly at your description of a couple of strangers eating their food at a restaurant you work at. While you on the other hand couldn’t resist laughing along with him. His dimples popped out with his smile and your automatic reaction was to poke it. That caught him off guard causing him to stop but he chuckles instead. 

Pulling up to the drive-thru of the Mcdonald’s you googled earlier, he asks you what you’d like to eat. 

“Bro, you already know I want nuggets and chips with a whole lot of barbecue sauce.” 

“How many nuggets do you want?” 

“Maybe… 20?” 

“Jeeez 20? Are you sure you can finish that?” he pretends to be surprised. 

You hit him on the shoulder, “bitch just get me my nuggets and we won’t have a problem.” 

A pleasant chuckle resonates from his mouth and shakes his head accordingly. 

Jaehyun orders the food and when its time to pay he looks at you expectantly. 

“Oh right, I said I’d treat.” you grin sheepishly. 

“Ye-huh,” he nods and takes your debit card from you and handing it to the staff over the window. 

You both wait for your food in the following window which comes rather quite quickly and thank the lady as Jaehyun drove off somewhere undetermined. You’re distracted by the food to take notice of where he was driving to, but it didn’t matter because you trusted that he would choose a location you both loved. 

There was a viewpoint on top of a hill by the motorway that allowed cars to park and look at the night skyline. It was one of the many places you both talked about driving to years ago and now that one of you finally got their drivers licence, what else is there that could stop you? 

As you munch on your third nugget and chips, you look up when he says that you’ve arrived. Your jaw dropped. The nugget you were holding also dropped to the floor of his car and your eyes widened in awe. 

“Jae..” 

“If I asked you where we should go, you wouldn’t have known so I figured why not here.” 

“Damn, this is beautiful.” 

Jaehyun was tempted to tell you that you were more beautiful but his heart held him back. You couldn’t peel your eyes away from the view and he couldn’t take his eyes off you. Looking at you and his heart swelling with emotion, it was almost too unbearable. He can’t hold you close. He can’t kiss your forehead and tell you just how much he felt for you. 

You turn to him abruptly, making him look at the bags of food he ordered. 

“Are we gonna be able to finish all this?” he asks, inspecting each bag. 

“Of course we are. If we don’t I can take it home. My boyfriend is getting off work soon and he’s always complaining that he’s hungry after.” 

“Right, that’s fine.” in his monotone voice. 

You’re unaware of the change in tone but you distract him by shoving a nugget in front of his face, urging him to eat. 

His dimple makes another appearance when he smiles and takes the piece from you. You grab his phone once more and play another song that fits the setting. 

The night goes on with endless conversations and eventually empty paper bags, once filled with warm treats. You yawn as you look out at the city lights and Jaehyun doesn’t fail to notice your eyelids falling closed slowly. 

“Do you want to head back?” he suggests.

“I think that’ll be the best. It’s already-- what? Fuck it’s already four am. I should really head back now. My boyfriend must be wondering where the heck I am.” 

“Sure thing. Seatbelt.” he reminds you. 

You buckle your seatbelt and he starts the car. 

The drive back was quiet and fast. Jaehyun glances at your sleeping figure next to him, fighting the urge to reach out and caress your cheek. 

If only he wasn’t driving you back to the apartment you shared with your boyfriend. 

If only he can take you back to his house and hold you to sleep. 

If only he can kiss you goodnight and wake up next to you. 

If only he was able to tell you how much he loves you.

Being Echt she knows she’s technically above other Quincy’s but doesn’t really get why or what purpose that gives anything she does.

At least she’s free.

Yumichika she hates more deeply because he went low when it wasn’t warranted.

Medea Rambles - Changing Voice Actors (in anime)

Your favorite character! You love the way they look, the way they act, and in many cases, the way they sound. Yeah, voice actors are a vital role when it comes to bringing life to any character in animation. But what happens when your favorite character doesn’t sound the same as he/she used to?

It could mean your favorite character’s voice actor has CHANGED.

Don’t fear! This happens all the time and many factors can come into play to make that happen.

Because I’m bored today and have nothing better to talk about...

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BETTER TO TALK ABOUT!

I want to talk about voice actors! Because I like talking about them. I have the highest respect for these people and these people give it their all with the characters they voice. Every scream Sean Schemmel ever gave as Goku, every cackle Sayaka Ohara gave as Beatrice, these performances can be considered remarkable and memorable as time goes by.

But we must all remember this. Voice actors are just like you or me. They are human. No one lasts forever. And when the unthinkable happens and a voice actor dies, many creators grapple with either retiring the character or hire a replacement.

In the anime world, it’s most likely the latter because there’s no way in fuckdom Professor Oak would EVER be retired as a character (R.I.P. Unshou Ishizuka).

Even though no one could match the charm of Unshou Ishizuka as Professor Oak and many other roles, we accept the change. But it’s not just death. Life in general can get in the way. Many voice actresses have long-running roles to voice even when they’re pregnant. So when they go on maternity leave, they’ll need a replacement. However these are thankfully temporary so we were able to get Mariya Ise to voice Bonnie on Pokemon again and soon Brina Palencia will be back to voicing Juvia on Fairy Tail (and congrats to her for the birth of her first baby).

Child actors in anime will probably not have the same voice they had 10 years ago and if a role is making a revival in the present, that person will more than likely not play that same role. Perfect example there would be Aaron Dismuke who was a young boy when playing roles like Al on Full Metal Alchemist and Hiro on Fruits Basket. When FMA: Brotherhood came out, it was very clear that Dismuke was well past puberty and so his role of Alphonse had to go to someone else.

And voice actors who sustain injury to their voices during production. Jessica Calvello, the original voice of Excel from Excel Saga literally blew out her vocal chords for this role and had to have her role replaced for the second half of the series. Was it noticeable? Fuck yeah it was. But it was for the greater good. Plus her replacement wasn’t that bad. In fact she did a good job with the wacky behavior of Excel. The dubbing company was on a deadline and it had to be met. So what’s done is done. I’m just happy Calvello healed from that and is still a voice actor.

And other issues like scheduling conflicts and controversial issues come into play throwing a monkey wrench in productions. But we all move on for the most part.

WE ALL MOVE ON!

Anyways, for the most part these are just singular acts concerning one or more characters at a time. What happens when AN ENTIRE CAST IS CHANGED?!

Well...it happens! It just depends on the circumstances with the anime. And let’s face it, some of these changes can be for the greater good. Take Sailor Moon for example. Yes, we all know this tale! Sailor Moon was originally licensed by DIC for the first few seasons. And then the next few seasons it was taken over by (the thankfully gone company) Cloverway. With both companies, the anime was given the royal fuck-over with skipping episodes, chopping or editing scenes, Americanizing everything, downplaying homosexuality, shotty voice work, and blow off an entire season. And during the transition from DIC to Cloverway, some of the voices were changed and it was noticeable.

Decade later, Viz Media swoops in and gives the fans what they waited for. The entire series redubbed with original names, Haruka and Michiru are lesbians, Fisheye has a penis, and season five can finally be shown. But for many of us, we were delighted to hear the voices to the characters we grew up with finally getting some justice. While many of us loved Sailor Moon growing up, it was kind of painful to hear some of the voices. I once again point to Haruka’s original voice (or Amara as they called her). And the same could also be said about the first dub to One Piece. This redub needed to happen! No one objected to this, nor should they! But that’s just one person’s opinion here. Others, not so much. Especially the next one!

POKEMON! Yes another anime that went through a giant change. In 2006 (right in the middle of a fucking arc mind you), Pokemon switched the dubbing rights from 4Kids to TAJ/Pokemon Company. To which we all said...

And then they got rid of all the voice actors who have voiced these characters for YEARS and replaced them. To fans of the show from the very beginning it was noticeable and STILL IS. To people who were born in 2006 and are watching this now as a teenager (fucking shit I feel old just realizing that), they probably wouldn’t give it a second thought.

I know it hurt fans and voice actors at first but look at the bright side, a lot of them went on to do great things after Pokemon. Veronica Taylor is busy doing Sailor Moon. Eric Stuart is still touring. And Andrew Rannells...I don’t think I need to bring up Book of Mormon. As it has been over 13 years since the change I think many of us have gotten used to or have accepted this.

Does that mean you’ve accepted Tracey’s new voice?

No. Fuck no. And I never will.

Yeah, Tracey’s a different story. I refuse to accept that change.

Anyways back to voice actors changing! Pokemon and Sailor Moon were kind of special cases as those had a bunch of in-fighting to get what we got. Same with One Piece because no one wanted to watch that hot mess get raped with censored items, Americanized names, and a horrific rap song that even Vanilla Ice would say that’s too much. But sometimes, an anime that has finished its airing and has been dubbed and released in the states, it will be out of print or its license will be expired.

Animes like Berserk, Squid Girl, Rozen Maiden, and Shakugan no Shana were all owned, licensed, and dubbed by a company. But then their licence would go belly-up and their title would no longer be available for purchase (at a decent price) or streamed on a website. Luckily, these titles were eventually saved. Kept the same is a different story there.

All four of those titles had one or more of their seasons dubbed and anything else the series had that wasn’t dubbed was now going to be dubbed by their current licencor. In many of these cases it was changed due to the fact that many of the original voice actors for these roles are not where this certain anime is being worked on. Like in the case of Shakugan no Shana, many of the voice actors reside in Vancouver BC and FUNimation, the licensing company is in Texas. Hence, you get the second and third season sounding way different from the first season. Yes, it’s convenient or cheaper to use people in your studio instead of waiting to hear from Canada. So that’s a possibility of why they do that. Or of course, scheduling issues/conflicts or wanting to do things their own way. Haven’t decided on which one to believe.

And then there are some animes like Escaflowne (an anime that was already dubbed and licensed and released in the late 90s) only for the whole thing to be redubbed by FUNimation decades later. Reasons? They re-licensed it? There was over 8 minutes of new footage found that was never dubbed? They found it necessary to do that? Take your pick!

Now most of what I’m talking about is mostly America problems. Does Japan redub classic anime? To my knowledge, no. But if they remake, reboot, or give a sequel, the cast might change. In recent reboots such as Fruits Basket, Berserk, Sailor Moon, and Genshiken, the entire cast will change to either appease the original creator’s wishes or start over with a clean slate. And if a series makes a return after several decades, of course they’re going to change voices, are you insane?

Why did I find the need to spew a bunch of useless information today? I felt inspired after Netflix decided to grace us with IT’S presence.

Neon Genesis Evangelion.

A classic in the anime community. A gateway anime for many. A massive mindfuck wrapped in a brainfart. A clusterfuck of many proportions.

The television series was licensed and dubbed by ADV back in the 90s. But of course that company went belly-up and so this series has been unreachable in terms of purchasing for over a decade. Even when Japan gives us reboots in the forms of movies for the Evangelion franchise, only those movies would be picked up (by FUNimation). They didn’t even touch the series. Didn’t they realize fans would pay through the nose to get a blu-ray release of this series? The most fans could get were split-up copies on DVD and old VHS tapes. This was a goldmine.

Alas, FUNimation was not the one to save the Neon Genesis Evangelion series.

It was Netflix.

But...all things come at a price when you make a deal with the devil. Netflix found it necessary to redub the entire series (both movies included) without giving word or even consideration to the original cast (that has been doing the voices to these characters for over 20 years). Spike Spenser, Amanda Winn Lee, Tiffany Grant, and Allison Keith wanted to help with this as they all had a lot of input in the original (especially Lee). Now before I cast stones upon this, I do give this dub some credit. They do make an effort to make this sound like an improved version of the 90s dub. And in some aspects I find the new voice to Shinji bearable. And I’m okay with many new casting changes. I mean NGE was okay, but the dub wasn’t the greatest. My only gripe with the change...

Downplaying Shinji x Kaowru.

Netflix, you just undid like a decades worth of change when it comes to homosexuality in anime. You just took us five steps backwards! Kaowru says he LOVED Shinji. “Like”? No, you like a pair of pants. You like that new Bruno Mars song. Kaowru said he LOVED Shinji. Why the fuck didn’t you keep that translation? The 90s dub was kind enough to have Kaowru say that and the 1990s were run by a bunch of prudes! I thought we were past this shit when we put an end to the old Sailor Moon dubs!

Now with this Netflix dub, many characters on Evangelion officially have 2-3 different voice actors. Or in the case of the character Toji, Johnny Young Bosch is the fifth person to voice him. But some platforms can have the anime itself, just not get the right with the english dub probably due to some legal loophole.

Whew, a lot of changes in anime, right folks? It almost feels like these dubbing companies want to erase the past, right? Well to be fair, everyone seems to be doing that. Disney keeps giving us live-action remakes to classic Disney animated films. Classic anime titles are being rebooted. Dubbing companies are taking older animes and redubbing them. I know it feels like they want us to forget these dubs existed. But I know they just want to improve them.

No matter what, everyone will find fault with everything. And in the anime community, it feels like a never-ending flame war. Older animes will get hated on by how crappy it sounds or looks. And nostalgic fans will hate on the new dub because it’s with new people who sound nothing like the original.

YOU CAN (NOT) WIN!

With these redubs, many names get pronounced the correct way, many translations will be accurate to the Japanese version, and in some cases it’ll sound a lot better. Dubbing companies try to aim at new viewers and to introduce a new generation of anime fans to an old classic. But for people who grew up with animes like Pokemon, Escaflowne, Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, and many others, we grew accustomed to the dub. And when hearing it changed, it’s kind of a kick in the ears hearing anything penetrated or different from all the years you spent watching these animes.

Everyone has their own opinion of what they like and don’t like to hear. I like to give things the benefit of the doubt for the most part. Especially when I watch an older anime for the first time that has several dubs. When I began watching Rurouni Kenshin about 7 years back, I was warned that there were three English dubs to that. And I heard all three. I made my choice of which one I prefer, which one was okay, and which one needs to be set on fire. In case you don’t know, the original TV series had the best, the OVA series was okay, and the redub Sony did needs to be set on fire.

And that would be my advice to new anime watchers. Give both dubs a chance and make your decision on which one you like best.

Sadly, these changes will continue to happen whether for the better or the worst. While there are some changes that upset me, some I’m okay with if not pleased about it. But with the recent upset over fans hating on Evangelion’s new dub and change, do you think the fans will get a revolution and their old dub/old translations back? Let me put it to you this way. If Pokemon told us to sit and spin after many of us outraged over the cast change, what chance do Evangelion fans have against Netflix? But you never know, stranger things have happened. Maybe a miracle will occur and the old dub will get a blu-ray release.

In the meantime, I’ll have to re-write my thoughts on Evangelion with the ADV dub, FUNimation dub, and Netflix dub. TOO MANY DUBS!

This has been another Medea ramble. I’ll go back to doing whatever it is I normally do around here.

Okay, so these are my opinions based off of what I've seen or heard people say. I understand that it is 100% okay to have your own opinions, I'm not bashing them. Love you guys xoxo.

Mike Wheeler: okay why are people saying that Mike was mean? He can be brash but you see how he treats Eleven, and you see how he cares about each and everyone of his friends. A new girl shows up and Mike isn't easy to trust her. It's not like every time the party makes a new friend they can be like "hey, hi, so uh...im Mike, this is Lucas, Dustin, Will, yeah. We used to have a friend named Eleven but she got lost somewhere in the upside down. Just like Will did for a week." Like no. Then Max would be in danger.

Lucas Sinclair: NO. Just no. Why don't people like my boy, Lucas? Okay, so when Eleven came for the first time what he did wasn't mean. I would do the same damn thing. There is a girl in a storm, I would call somebody. Honestly, Lucas and Dustin were thinking logically in that moment, while Mike was guided by his feelings (which isn't a bad thing!!) Thinking back to what Dustin said about the friendship thing, I understand why Lucas would be hurt. Think: they were best friends forever, then they some random girl from the woods, and he slowly starts to trust her more then him and you knew her for what 10 mins? I can tell Lucas puts a value on friendship. While Mike was worried about Eleven, Lucas' number one priority was finding his best friend. I get that. I completely get that.

Jane "Eleven" Hopper: I don't understand why Millie said Eleven was annoying lolllll. I can see why she thought that but hey, if I were trapped in a lab for my whole life, lost the love of my life, and had to travel from home to home, I would have a lot of anger too haha.

Max Mayfield: I. Love. Max. Mayfield. Yeah, she could be a little mean sometimes but I understand that. Imagine: you have to deal with abuse from your stepbrother everyday, and you don't have anyone to talk to about it because all your friends at school exclude you. (I already spoke my opinion on that ) Even though you hang out with people, you are technically on your own. So, as a result you treat everyone like crap. It's anger that has been inside of her, you start to see that when she talks with Lucas about it

Noah Schnapp: Homeboy is slept on like a mattress. He deserves an award. He had to do some exhausting work in ST2. Like a got tired just looking at him. Lolllll. But, seriously, HE DESERVES AN AWARD. All of them do.
