Sad thing is, he genuinely tried. He really gave it his all, immersing himself in study materials for the past week to ensure he was fully prepared. You could find him studying anywhere��whether in the cafeteria, passing through the halls, or even coming out of the toilet. He went to bed the night before confidently, walked into the exam hall confidently, sat down confidently, and handed in his paper confidently. When he received his paper back, he thought the big fat zero on the front meant he made zero mistakes

To Mend a Mender — Sawyer Henrick

Synopsis: Mending is a signet that takes time to hone. In emergencies, though, that fact is usually disregarded.

Includes: Death, feelings of guilt and low self esteem, angst (poor Kora can’t catch a break), but Sawyer makes it betterish. Italics mark spoken Lucerish. Kinda born out of my fear of failure during finals week; like, I wish someone had told me this 💀. Takes place during Iron Flame.

Midnight. It’s fucking midnight, and you’re not with him. Sawyer isn’t usually one to panic, but he’s one slip of a door handle from ignoring curfew to come and find you.

It’s Thursday — one of the days where you sleep in his room. He understands if you had something come up, but you’d at least ask Cridhe to let him know, right?

As if sensing his discomfort, Sliseag grumbles a little. “Cridhe is not well right now. He will not speak to me.”

Well, that’s just fucking great. Sawyer sits up and slings on a random shirt from his bedside. Fuck that, and fuck the curfew — you’re more important than any rule in the Codex. If he gets courtmartialed, so be it.

Before he can even set his hand on the door handle, though, he freezes when he hears a hesitant knock from the other side. He throws it open and is met with the familiarity of your pretty eyes—

Filled with tears.

Shit.

You look down, swallowing. “I’m sorry,” you whisper. “I’m really fucking sorry.”

Any words of possible reprimand are killed instantly by your weak tone. You look and sound absolutely exhausted; you wear a face that looked washed out, as if drained by an invisible tide of overexertion and burnout. Wordlessly, he pulls you into his room and into his chest, resting his chin on your head once the door is closed.

“It’s midnight.” His voice is low, gentle. “Where were you?”

His heart drops as he hears a quiet sniffle, his arms tightening around you protectively. Without thinking, he takes a couple of steps backwards until his legs hit his bed, and you practically fold into him once he sits. You tuck your face into his shoulder, drawing in a breath in an attempt to fight off the sting along your waterline. It doesn’t work, though; you’re much too shaken and nauseous to breathe right.

It doesn’t take any time at all before you start actually sobbing, hot tears streaming down your skin and into Sawyer’s shirt. “Fuck. I’m sorry—“

“No,” he whispers, his fingers lifting to peel the hair tie from the the end of a long, messy braid and slowly beginning to work through the strands. “No apologies. It’s okay. You’re safe. Always are, with me.”

The both of you sit there, cocooned in the safety of silence that’s only interrupted by your muffled whimpers and attempted apologies, each hushed by Sawyer as he wraps you up in his arms. He scans your skin. No bruises, fortunately, but there’s definitely hints of dried blood on your arms. Had you been hurt? Had someone tried to fight you? Slowly, he lays back, sprawling you on top of him as he continues to hum soft Lucerish nothings into your ears.

After a while, your tears have died a little, and Sawyer feels less guilty about asking questions. “Did someone hurt you?”

Your reply comes hesitantly, as if you were speaking through spiderwebs in your throat. “No. I was…in the infirmary.”

Your voice is so soft that Sawyer can only hear it if he tilts his head down a little. The infirmary — that’s where you spent a lot of time nowadays, using your signet to its greatest potential in Nolon’s absence.

“Okay.” His thumbs rub little figure-eights into your shoulder blades. Your skin is warmer than usual — had you run all the way to his room? “Why?”

“They’ve been calling me in,” you explain, your voice hoarse. “Day and night, since I’m the only other mender here.”

Sawyer nods. He’d known that — even last year, once you’d manifested, you spent a lot of time training in the infirmary under Carr and Nolon’s supervision.

“And…” You swallow, dipping your head even lower. “There was an emergency tonight.”

An emergency? Sawyer stiffens. That means that someone had caught you off-guard and thrown off all of your plans for the night. If there’s anything that’ll irk you, it’s a change in schedule that no one warned you about. He cradles you a tiny bit closer to his chest. That’s strike one.

“Yeah?” He prompts, smoothing a hand over your messy hair.

“Someone got jumped and hauled off a few days ago, and they found him dragging himself through the halls earlier.” You sniffle a little. “It was so, so bad.”

Ah. Unnecessary violence to someone who’s decidedly innocent — another thing you hate. Strike two.

“You don’t need to talk about it if you don’t want to,” he assures you softly. “I’d never force you into that, darling.”

You just shake your head. From his end, it’s like you’re trying to bury yourself into him, to escape the things you witnessed in the earlier evening.

“I—“ Your voice breaks a little. “And I tried to help, but he lost so much blood, and some of his wounds were infected, and there was blunt force trauma to his head. I didn’t…I couldn’t…”

Your voice trails off into a shaky sob, your body shaking with the force of your fear.

No, he realizes. Not fear. He knows what your fear looks like. This is grief — the grief he saw when you all thought Violet was dead after War Games, or when Nadine was killed shortly thereafter.

His fingers work their way up a little more, carding through your sweaty braid. Patiently, he waits for you to continue, if you wish to at all. From the pain in your voice, he’s almost entirely sure you won’t.

But, then again — tonight has been full of surprises.

“It was too much,” you finally choke out. “Too much damage. He died right as I stopped the bleeding.”

Sawyer winces, pressing a small kiss to your temple. “I’m sorry,” he says softly, running his free hand up and down your spine in easy strokes.

“I feel so fucking useless,” you cry, your achy hands curling into even tighter fists. “What good is a mender that can’t even mend?”

The hand in your hair finally makes it to your scalp, massaging the sore skin still lined with sweat.

“You can mend,” he reminds you quietly. “Eden said you’re getting better each day.”

“Not better enough,” you huff, bitterness lacing your tone. Your shoulders tense a little before sagging under the weight of relentless pressure. “I had a job, and I failed. Someone died because I couldn’t be good enough for just one stupid second—“

“Hey.” He cuts you off, his voice low but firm. “No. We’re not falling into that trap, okay? It has nothing to do with you or your skill.”

He scoots you up a little, resting his chin upon your head. “You said it yourself; he was in terrible form, and he was half-dead anyway. I know it doesn’t sit right with you, but I don’t think much could be done for him.”

“There’s always something to be done,” you mutter, roughly wiping your face with the back of your hand. “I just couldn’t do it.”

“Which isn’t your fault,” Sawyer reminds you. “You can’t expect yourself to be on Nolon-levels of mending. He’s had his signet for, like, thirty years. You’ve had yours for ten months.”

He frowns a little. The healers couldn’t have expected you to have completely mastered your signet yet, right? The thought fills him with disbelief. If they made you feel like this just because of your inexperience—

He pauses, noticing just how warm you are. A single finger brushes over your arm.

“You’re quite warm.”

You remain silent, much to Sawyer’s dismay. His dragon, however, does not.

“Cridhe would like you to know that your mender almost reached burnout tonight,” Sliseag says, his tone unusually concerned, “which is why he was in a fit.”

Burnout. Sawyer has only ever gotten close to that once, and the moment it peaked, Sliseag had knocked him into a lake.

“Hold on,” Sawyer murmurs, clutching you a bit tighter as he begins to sit up a little. You’re definitely dehydrated — and the run back to his room, as well as crying into his shoulder, probably didn’t help. He strains a little, reaching over and snagging the half-full waterskin that he (fortunately) neglected to pour out after flight maneuvers today, and then he taps your hip with his index finger.

“Sit up for me?”

You whine softly but oblige, allowing him to prop your back against his chest and raise the waterskin to your lips. The water is slightly stale, but you don’t mind it much; after all, you’re barely a few steps away from overheating, and from the sharp orders from Cridhe to “drink something, Cuine,” you don’t think you have much of a choice.

“There we go,” he murmurs, his breath brushing against the shell of your ear. “Better?”

You nod and wipe your face again of sweat and tears. You probably look like a damn mess right now, between burnout and crying, but at least you’re with your boyfriend and not, say, the healers.

Sawyer presses a kiss to your shoulder, rubbing at your wrists gently. “You should get some sleep, darling. You must be exhausted.”

It’s true — you feel like you’ve been dropped mid-flight and then hit the ground running. But there’s something that’s preventing you from trying to drift.

You shake your head. “I don’t think I can,” you admit. “Not after…”

Not after someone slipped out of your grasp right in front of you, Sawyer guesses in his mind. It worries him a bit, but he just nods. “That’s okay. We can just cuddle, if you want.”

The glimmer in your eyes turns borderline desperate. “Please.”

That’s how you end up with your head buried in his collarbone, tucked under his arms as if this were any other, ordinary night. It’s far from perfect, but at least you have some consistency again, found hidden in the depths of his sheets and the warmth of his kisses.

“You have every right to grieve.” He presses his lips to your forehead. “Every right to be upset. But not at yourself. This had nothing to do with you and everything to do with whichever stupid asshole decided to dump a gravely injured cadet on a new mender.”

Doubt swirls in your gut. On one hand, logic states that your boyfriend is right. You’re so new to mending that there was no chance that you could have saved that kid, no matter what you tried. Still, though, a small part of you curses yourself for your incompetence, for your failure to keep someone alive with all of that medical knowledge under your belt.

Sawyer takes this silence as a reply. “Darling?”

No response.

He clears his throat, smoothing a hand down your spine.

“Kardia?”

That makes your head pop up a bit, right at attention. Sawyer is quite modest when it comes to using Lucerish, so it always catches your attention whenever the melodic language slips off his tongue like that.

“I can’t say anything to make the situation better,” he starts. “Because it fucking sucks. But you have to believe me when I tell you that you did the best you could, and that’s more than enough. If it still bothers you, we can keep working on your mending together. I just need you to remember that your best is enough, even though the results were at a loss.”

“I’d like that,” you reply quietly. Although you don’t think his words will do much for your grief, they do inject a new feeling within you — subtle resignation. There’s not much you can do now besides keep improving and getting over it…even if you know that you won’t be getting over it anytime soon.

“Sweet girl,” he says, his light accent curling around your brain. “You are one of the strongest, most intelligent women I know — and trust me, I know a lot. One mistake isn’t a testament to your power or character.”

You sniff, clinging to him gently. “You think so?”

He chuckles. “I know so. You’ve saved my sorry ass more times than I can count. I’m surprised that I’m fully intact, with how often I come looking for you.”

“You come looking for me anyway,” you point out, peering up at him. “I can’t think of a time where we’ve been apart recently.”

He tugs you back into him, filling your senses with the scent of cedar and vanilla. “I wouldn’t leave you to be by yourself, unless you asked me to.”

“…Good. I don’t want to be alone. Not right now.”

“Never, darling,” he says, nuzzling his nose into your hair. “And that’s a promise.”

He’s very observant, so he’d probably know real quick. He’d ask you about it out right and bluntly. He doesn’t beat around the bush.

If you deny it, he’s not gonna be mad. He understands that it’s not something you want to admit. He would hope you would tell him the truth.

If you confirm his suspicions, he’d be subtle.

He can tell by the way you curl in on yourself when someone comments about you. He glares at the people who even talk to you, and tell them off.

He’d bring an extra hoodie or sweater and offer it for you. He’d share some of his food with you, much to the dismay of Deryl.

He’s suggest you come over to his dorm/place/home and set up something nice. He’d offer some tea, wrap you up in a blanket with him, and put on some soft music to soothe you to sleep💜

Deryl:

I don’t he’d notice quickly, but after a while he might catch on. Key word “Might.” I don’t think he’s very observant honestly.

He’d notice how quiet you get and comment on it. He’d ask if you’re okay and try to cheer you up. He’d listen intently (try to anyway. He love him for it), nodding his head along. He would understand and say you’re not alone.

That it’s normal for people to feel this way and everyone feels like that sometimes. Even him!

He would hold out his arms and try for a hug. He’d squeeze you tightly and nuzzle his nose in your hair/neck/cheek/etc

He’s probably the best with jokes and making people feel better. He’d ask what he could do to help, if there’s anything, and try to do it immediately 💛

I feel like she wouldn’t notice either honestly. You’d have to be out right with your thoughts and feelings.

She’s completely understanding and offers all the ways that helped her in the past.

She’d suggest bubbles baths, taking a nap, journalling, hanging out with Brittney-

If you tell him he’s completely there for you. He’s smiling softly at you as you explain your feelings and he’s nodding along. He’s not entirely sure how to help, but if you tell him he’ll do it. He’d do anything for you.

He’d ask what he could do. He’d take what you say and also his ideas, while doing some research to help.

He’d write down some motivation quotes and add them to your work stuff with hopes you’ll see them. 💙

Sol:

He would know immediately and he would try to help you the best he can.

He’d make you cute little lunches with compliments or inspirational words made out of food.

He’s already offering his shirt, just take it. It’s there to make you feel better! Totally not any other reason..

If you want to talk about it, he’s more than happy to led an ear.

He’d also try to distract you I think. He’s always eager to spend time with you, and this is a good excuse! He’d suggest a bunch of different stuff like a museum, art show, etc.

Many museums have sculptures, and he would go for those ones specifically to show you that you’re perfect the way you are. People in the ancient times thought they were beautiful, so why aren’t you? You are. 💚

Hyugo:

He’d try to distract you from your thoughts I think, once he realizes them. He’d probably take a bit of time before he does notice though.

He’d invite you to watch movies, listen to inspirational stories, or funny tv shows with him.

I’m a firm believer he’s all for aggressive positivity. Waving his arms in a heart shape and screaming affirmations to you.

He’d be very protective, glaring at anyone who dares look at you the wrong way, and then turning back to you pouting about how they were interrupting.

He would try to bake something or get you treats from a local bakery. I can imagine him putting the little treats into a cute box with ribbon. In order to get the desserts, you would have to accept some compliments 🩵

I HAVE AN IDEA FOR A PAANI AND KWAZII INTERACTION. IVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THEM. and then school decided to slam me with projects and obligations

i will still get this out because I've been wanting to do something with my designs for a bit, so here im sharing two sketches from the concept art i thought were particularly silly.

with the addition of a hideous old sketch that was supposed to be paani but the subject is frankly better pitched as a dogman style surgical fusion between curious george and the man with the yellow hat.

i ought to be nice to my past self though because without those ugly stages i wouldn't have been able to end up with something i liked :]

anyway while I don't exactly ship paani and kwazii i think their relationship can be explored in many interesting ways... specifically their mostly one sided rivalry

(keep in mind i am still not done watching above and beyond i am savoring it slowly)

paani is daring and off his feet more than on his feet like kwazii but he also has a scientific specialty and is very knowledgeable with the way the world works, and because of that he appears to be more of a tool to the octonauts than kwazii.

this is an offhand(not meant to be psychoanalyzed) example thrown at the wall here but in that one above and beyond episode where kwazii really wanted to go on a mission to investigate running water in the antarctic, even hyping himself up as the one to go, barnacles chose paani over kwazii. and yeah this is because water is paanis speciality and not kwazii's speciality but there's a whole bunch of what-ifs in my mind ABOUT that rivalry. like what if those little things add up. what if someone who's exactly like you is basically more fixed up and more of an asset than you. what if your colleagues admire that person more for their drive and spontaneity whilst making jokes about how nonsensical and rowdy you are. these thoughts wouldn't be a blaring spiraling siren in kwaziis mind but rather a dominating, quiet presence tucked away in the dark. one he can't see but he knows is there.

and fostering that relationship with paani, a fairly content and pure-of-ill-intent guy, inevitably forces kwazii to confront his perception of him and himself. and even better if paani wasn't the only one who kwazii was jealous of (this could be practically everyone on the octopod). his low self esteem is the common denominator and that would be further fueled by the above and beyond-octoagent operation where all these new people with various different skills and personalities are introduced and suddenly he isn't being picked for every single job he wants to do neow

but ofc kwazii is special he's the funny pirate guy haha he's meant to be the one to spring in first and get your nerves jumbled haha (and ik, characters aren't two dimensional. kwazii can be cautious and paani can be stubborn and peso can be brave and barnacles can be scared and tweak can make mistakes and dashi can not serve sometimes)

anyway that was mostly about kwazii and not paani and kwazii 💀 i just wanted to get some ideas out my brain

I CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD 🔥🔥 anyway i made 2 new ocs that I'm throwing to Moonlight University by @hayati-gacha (please tell me if you don't want to be tagged :3).

A student who moved to MU due to relentless bullying at her old school, she enrolled in hopes of getting her parents out of debt and a better environment for her education. Wonju is easily wary and has very low self-esteem, she avoids interaction with other students in fear of judgement.

Wonju is an awkward person at first, but she is fun and sweet to be around once you've earned her trust.

A popular student known for her bubbly and friendly personality, many who are familiar with Hana takes her as a kind, joyful girl. Behind their backs, Hana holds petty grudges and badmouths anyone who ticks her off in any way, even if that person has never interacted with her before, including Kim Wonju.

Hana is a mean person, but she keeps her sweet image for attention and her own amusement. If she dislikes someone enough, she wouldn't mind planning their downfall.

Kyle: Gets along with him to an extent, but she finds him annoying to be around sometimes. She often talks ill of him with her friends.

Phil: Thinks he's annoying, not much else.

Samuel: Hana thinks he's a pick-me (💀). She believes she can pull girls better than he does if she tried.

Melissa: Doesn't care about her existence much.

Chloe: Big crush, she knows Chloe might be an ass but she's an ass too 👍

↳ Pairing : Nanami Kento x Tiana

↳ A/N: this is literally from the top of my head from pining stage all the way to marriage.

↳ Warnings: NSFW at the end so minors dni‼️

Pining Stage

-At Tiana’s Café Nanami either orders prepackaged foods or the simplest thing to prepare on the menu i.e black tea. All she needs to do is put the tea bag in 💀 He doesn’t want to add to the work that she already does.

-Nanami doesn’t like sweets. He can only eat the desserts Tiana makes. Makes a point to buy beignets all the time because he sees how she lights up when people buy them.

-If Japan had tipping culture he would tip but instead he buys those novelty items they sell at the cafe like mugs or cups. He gives them as customary/holiday gifts to his coworkers/friends or keeps them.

-Highly attuned to social cues. Aware if someone likes him or is flirting. I wouldn’t say he’s shy—he used to be when he was younger—but now he’s just extremely jaded and pessimistic. A glass half empty kind of person (working corporate in a big city will do that to you😪) He could look like he’s shying away if Tiana flirts with him but only because he doesn’t trust others easily at first.

-Nanami didn’t ever have an ideal type. He always thought about getting married but didn’t have a fully formed idea of the kind of woman he would marry until he met Tiana. This is before they even go on the first date lol.

Dating Stage

-The beginnings of the relationship start out incredibly formally. Tiana felt he was asking to hire her instead of asking her out on a date 💀 Otherwise he’s very straightforward. There’s no beating around the bush, no situationship no fwb, he’s a very traditional man. He courts then marries.

-Such a daydreamer. After one date he’s already thinking about the house they’ll buy and kids they’re going to have.

-The ultimate gentleman. Opens all doors, carries all things. Pays for everything. He’s a provider and takes care of his partner.

-Nanami walks Tiana home from work every night. If he’s working overtime and can’t make it he will send an already paid taxi or a trusted friend to her cafe to bring her home.

Committed Relationship Stage

-Nanami doesn’t think much about his own appearance or attractiveness. Like he doesn’t think he’s handsome not bc of low self esteem but bc he just doesn’t think about it at all.

-He values neatness and cleanliness though. He also takes notes of other people’s appearances but doesn’t dwell on them. Like he can be like “she’s beautiful” and then just move on. In love, it’s slightly different. Idk how to explain it he just loves his person very much. They are more than arbitrary beauty, they’re everything and more to him.

-Notices absolutely everything. That one dress she liked in the window, he’ll remember it and come back alone to buy it as a gift. Discomfort on his partner’s face, slight change of mood. He’s very observant so he will never be clueless about that.

-Would never cheat😒 like… he’s Nanami. He is courteous. If he wants another relationship he’ll break things off cleanly with his old partner.

-He really trusts his partner. He isn’t a jealous man. Things will only affect him if he or his partner are directly disrespected. Men flirting with his partner in front of him is disrespect and he won’t take it lightly.

-Because of some of those traits he could be prone to getting taken advantage of, but I doubt it ever reaches that because Nanami is very discerning and careful about the partners he picks. So it’s highly unlikely he would end up with someone that takes advantage of him.

-Also he’s a bit pure? Of course he has sexual needs, but the smallest things gets his heart thumping. The tiniest gestures like Tiana leaving a love note in his bag? Or the smallest details like when he sees her shoes in the doorway when he gets home.

-Would literally not mind if Tiana called him about any minor inconvenience. (She wouldn’t of course) but if he heard her say something offhand about anything that’s broken or doesn’t work he’d figure out how to fix it ASAP. He’s all about efficiency so consider it done in the most efficient way possible. If he can do it by himself he will, if paying someone to do it is more efficient he’ll do that too.

-Needs to know where his partner is at all times. Like if they’re both on opposite sides of the room, he’s always glancing to make sure of her location, just in case.

-Random but he’s really fast at calculations. And keeps track of literally everything. Idk if that’s weird but he knows his partner’s cycle 😭 He knows everything about her health, dietary needs, medical history…etc He’s well prepared if something were to happen

-He speaks like an 18th century vampire if I’m being honest😭 If you text him “where are u” he’s just like “I have arrived…” Also uses ellipses a lot … 💀 but most times he just calls, doesn’t text.

Marriage Stage

-I think he’s always had eccentric tastes for a Japanese man. Like if not Tiana he definitely would’ve married outside his race one way or another. Or outside what is expected for your average Japanese salaryman.

-He remains formal in speech with his wife even if they’re the same age or married. There are couples that choose to drop honorifics and be informal with each other. But he remains formal because he sees it as a form of respect to his partner. The most informal he’ll go is using first names. Still sometimes says “Ms.Tiana” except now it’s “Mrs.Tiana”

-Nicknames and terms of endearment are more traditional. At work it’s “my wife”; At home it’s “darling” or “my love”

NSFW

-In a committed relationship Nanami is incredibly touchy in private. Literally needs to have his hands touching her at all times. Groping fetish?? Likes to squeeze ass and titties, maybe press his erection against from behind.

-Probably has a voice kink. Wants to just hear her talk all day. If he’s away, will call for no reason except to hear her voice. Will probably want to hear her speak as he fucks her. Doesn’t matter the content like she could be talking about how her day went and that could send him over.

-He can be gloomy but he’s the biggest romantic ever. When Nanami falls in love he falls hard. And he’s even willing to try anything if his partner wants it. Bottoming, subbing, femdom, even humiliation whatever. He won’t care because he trusts his partner. The only thing he probably wouldn’t do is anything public but behind closed doors all bets are off.

-Gains pleasure from his partner’s pleasure. It’s not a praise kink persay. He doesn’t care to be praised but if she likes it, he loves it. Likes to hear her moan, claw his back, grab his hair; any indications that it’s pleasurable for her.

-When he’s tired he likes when she’s on top. Also likes when some clothing is still on. That could be because he’s too tired to take it off? Or making a neatly dressed woman all messy is a kink for him.

He had such a nice smile. Damn your bad luck. He was so strong and brave. Damn your bad luck. He was so kind. Fuck your bad luck. This bad luck had followed you around since childhood, you prayed this time it would be different…

The first time you saw Goku, your heart raced. You felt a blush spread across your cheeks. His friendly face stood out among the rubble around you, he was a savior. He picked you up with ease, assuring you everything was okay now and the evil dictator had been defeated. He asked you where your family was, and you didn’t answer. You saw his face fall, true sympathy in his eyes. He told you you’d never be alone again, that he and his friends would take care of you.

And they did. You lived with Piccolo of all people, he acted annoyed by the arrangement but he saw your pain and loneliness and never wanted you to feel abandoned. Your life was so different now; years of isolation and loss were replaced with days filled with activity and companionship. Goku was a constant in your life. You saw him pretty much every day, whether he was training with Piccolo or having a meal with everyone. You would shyly smile at him, flattered every single time he would speak to you. Everything could’ve been so perfect…

It was only a day after you moved in with Piccolo that you learned about Chichi. Your stomach dropped when you heard someone mention Goku’s wife. His wife. It wasn’t fair. Sure, she seemed perfectly nice and was very gorgeous, but… it wasn’t fair.

Every moment spent around Goku was bittersweet. You would glance at him longingly, imagining what it was like being his. How did he act in private? How did he show love? Did he talk dirty? What did he sound like in bed? You would mentally scold yourself for these thoughts, but they wouldn’t go away. Aside from being gorgeous, he was exactly the kind of person you’d always dreamed of falling in love with- sweet, genuine, strong… he would protect you from anything and everything. He was the embodiment of a comforting presence.

But alas, it was not to be. Chichi had his heart. On occasion you would witness him being soft with her, kissing her cheek or picking her up in his arms. It made you so sad. And also angry. Why her? You heard she grew up a princess for Kami’s sake, hadn’t she had enough handed to her on a silver platter? You felt so small and worthless compared to her… of course he’d desire a brave Princess over a scared girl he found in a pile of bricks.

Once you’d become a constant in the friend group, Goku seemed to talk to you less. You could usually count on him starting a little conversation about food, or the weather, sometimes giving you a pat on the head (which gave you butterflies in your stomach). But now you were lucky if he even greeted you. What had you done? Had you said something to offend him and forgot? Had you given him a weird look and didn’t realize? Were you simply too unappealing for him to even look at anymore? You blamed yourself for this shift in his actions and became depressed. Piccolo noticed. He would try to ask you what’s wrong, but you’d never tell him.

Time passed and Chichi became pregnant. You hated it, but Goku looked so very happy to be a father. Now, with Chichi expecting, most everyone’s attention was on her. The voices in your head told you that you were unwanted. You’d failed at being a friend. At being a person, even. On some level you knew this was just the bully in your brain talking, but it still hurt. You wanted to get away from it all. All the constant reminders that the one thing you wanted couldn’t be yours. You thought about killing yourself but you were too much of a pussy. One night, when everyone was fussing over Chichi, you put a few belongings in a bag and dashed out your window. You didn’t know where you were going, you just walked by instinct…

A few hours later, you found yourself in front of the reconstructed building that used to be your home. If you could consider it a home. You suddenly began to sob uncontrollably, all sorts of memories flooding your mind. In the darkness, you felt a hand on your shoulder. You gasped, turning around and seeing Goku. He looked down at you, eyes full of confusion and concern. “Are you okay?” he asked softly.

Seeing him only made you cry harder, and you threw your arms around him. He held you tightly, saying, “It’s okay… I don’t know why you’re crying, but I’m here with you, so it’s okay.”

It felt like he held you for hours but it was probably just a few minutes. You finally pulled away and he offered to take you home. You nodded and he took you in his arms, flying up in the sky back towards Piccolo’s house.

“Why did you come find me?” you asked him. Goku smiled a bit, “I noticed you were gone. It worried me… you haven’t been yourself lately.”

You felt your heart flutter. So he still paid attention to you. Worried about you. When you got back to your window, he set you down. “Y’know… I’m really sorry if I haven’t talked to you much lately. It’s not that I don’t like you or anything, it’s just…” his voice trailed off, and he looked rather sad. He quickly snapped out of it though, laughing and rubbing the back of his neck, “Anyway! You get some rest… or come and join us… whatever you want to do!” With that he left you and went through the front door.

Once you climbed back through your window, you laid down on your bed. What was he trying to say? Would you ever know? You decided that learning the mysteries of Goku might just be enough insensitive to stick around, after all.

Hunter Noceda

Hunter probably knew Stolas! reader when he joined the Hexquad or through Willow, because I don't see it as very likely that he had friends in the emperor's coven (I'll do a drabble about that one day).

to try new things (and be away from his fiancée) Stolas! reader decided to join the Flyer Derby team, which was a surprise in itself because he seemed like someone...very...weak, at least in Hunter's eyes.

but the demon quickly became almost the opposite, summoning monstrous specters with his haunted items and his book (grimoire?) and honestly left him in disrepair.

although Stolas!lector was definitely "weak" in other ways, mostly because he was so SOFT.

He had great destructive potential, yes, but when I got to talk to him, he was so damn nice that it was suspicious (to him).

At first Hunter pretended to be angry at the constant reader talk, but little by little he lets down his walls and joins in a little in their talks, especially if they have to do with magic.

Hunter has a LOT of questions about how Oracle magic works ESPECIALLY from Stolas' family! Reader, how do you see the future with such precision? How do you control so many monsters at the same time? they might even compare research notes :D

When Hunter comes into trust with the reader, it is quite easy for him to see through him and how things affect him. like the thing with his fiancée for example.

Now, Hunter, unlike the following cases, firmly believes that THE FIANCE is the problem of everything and is willing to go for blood (he's like, how dare you make my friend cry?)

Hunter PERSONALLY doesn't think it's appropriate for Stolas! Reader and his fiancée try to be friends, make things happen? Sure, but being friends after all the bad times they've been through? titan no...

As for the terrible father thing...he can relate...A LOT.

Similar to what he did with Gus, he would share his experience with the reader and try to make him feel better.

but MOST OF ALL he goes into big brother mode when the reader is around his father (Hunter would have an inhuman amount of BEEF on the man)

Hunter knows what it's like to be manipulated by the person who's SUPPOSED to take care of you and someone you ADMIRE on top of it, so if necessary he gives the reader a reality shock when they need it.

Does being like Stolas include being fluffy and like an Owl? If so, there is no WAY Hunter doesn't end up sleeping (whether on purpose or accidentally) on the reader's soft fur (he gets very embarrassed later)

I imagine Stolas! reader tends to be very VERY dense and Hunter would definitely make some harmless jokes about it (like when someone is BLATANTLY flirting with him and he's just like "do you know what the differences are between frogs and toads? :D")

Reader's gardening hobby definitely helps him serve as a matchmaker between Hunter and Willow, whether leaving them alone on purpose or leaving a nice atmosphere ;)

Despite this, Hunter definitely thinks that reader plants are a bit too nippy for his good 😅

Hunter doesn't understand much about Astronomy or how it relates to the Oracle, but he will happily listen to the reader talking about it and tries to listen and understand as best he can. instead the reader hears about his fixation on Lobos :D

When Hunter and Willow are together, Stolas! The reader becomes his third wheel, or rather, his "practice son" is quite funny.

In general you could say that Hunter is slightly more protective of Stolas! reader for his naivety and gullibility, but he does not believe that he is any less capable for that.

He is still a great friend to him :3

Willow Park

Willow knew a little about Stolas reader, precisely because of how relevant his family was and that apparently the boy would be in her same year.

low key, Willow was nervous about this news at first, she was afraid of running into Stolas! reader for fear that he would become a Bully on her similar to Amity and her group in the first season.

but one day she ended up drinking with Stolas! reader as he ran to class, both dropping several things.

To Willow's surprise, Reader was really friendly and apologized A LOT for bumping into her, helping her pick up the books while talking about how he was new and got lost easily and how his locker tried to eat his hand.

In addition, he was completely amazed when he saw the copies of Erbology books that Willow had for her plant class, and he began to ask her MANY questions.

What were the types of plants like? Do they have carnivorous plants? Can you see them? Can you feed them? Do they have species from all the islands? and the list goes on..

Willow was so stunned by all the questions and the fact that who she thought would be her worst nightmare turned out to be a super innocent kid that she almost forgot she had class.

After that, Stolas reader would spend his time looking for Willow to talk about plants, to his joy and Willow's dismay, who on the one hand couldn't say that he disliked reader, on the contrary, he was very sweet and friendly, but he feared this. It would end in him being swallowed.

But when he met his "fiancee" with certain frustration problems...

At first Willow tries to help Stolas reader hide, but eventually tries to get them on good terms at least.

If it works, great!

If it doesn't work and you still hate each other, well, you can try that plant that reader has been studying so much--

reader is very supportive of Willow with her grubgy Flyer career! He is going to encourage her with his carnivorous plants with signs to encourage her🤣

Willow helps with Stolas Reader Gardening Hobbies!, whether it's reminding him when to water the plants, helping him get rid of the weed that bites him, or even growing plants he wants when he's feeling especially down.

Stolas reader has even tried to use his Oracle magic to make Willow get better grades, sometimes it works and other times they spoil half their lives, at least they know they will be friends in 20 years!

Willow is very emotionally supportive of EVERYONE, this does not exclude Stolas! reader, not only with his complicated fiancée, but also with the fact that his father is a TERRIBLE role model and treats him TERRIBLE.

Willow has tried to suggest that the reader take two classes, both Oracle and Plants, but the reader is TOO afraid of her father to tell her that she doesn't want to study what he says, which leaves Willow quite sad.

One thing's for sure, there are sleepovers at the Park house! and definitely try to include the reader in plans with friends as much as possible.

just like Willow is a safe place for Reader, Reader is a safe place for Willow, they are each other's shoulders to cry on, in a way.

Reader is definitely the ultimate shipper Hunlow (although he threatened Hunter that if he did anything to Willow he would put a curse on her, tear her to pieces and feed it to his plants. Hunter understood).

Both can be terrifying when angry or using all their power, although they are usually rays of sunshine.

In short, two rays of sunshine that help each other to relate to the group (don't mess with them, they are much more dangerous than they look)💚

Amity Blight

ohhhhh boy, she understands ☠️

She probably know Stolas! reader thanks to his parents being friends and/or business colleagues, similar to Boscha's parents.

Odalia insisted that Amity try to be her friend so that she could improve her relationship with her family (a very important one among the covens, especially the Oracle's).

So Amity took note and prepared herself for a capricious and pedantic prince, similar to Boscha.

Imagine his surprise when Stolas! reader ended up being the complete opposite, someone very reserved, shy and wanting to make REAL friends.

If we talk about Amity from the first season, at first she had difficulty accepting Lector, precisely because of his reputation, but they found that they had several things in common.

books for example.

Amity ended up running into Reader several times in the library while working, mainly in the reptile and botany areas, which seemed strange since he was in Oracle classes.

They would end up having conversations about frogs and what they were like outside of the boiling islands, it turns out that the reader's family could use Oracle magic even in the human world, but he loves to see the "rare" specimens they had, like the opossums or giraffes.

Being the least mean to him, Reader spent his time stuck next to Amity, and she eventually warmed up to him and she would keep him company, even open up to him.

He definitely knows about her arranged marriage, and he didn't like how it scared him, he can bet that on a couple of occasions Amity threw her away with her abobinable.

(although I think it is not impossible for him to accept her as a friend of himself and the reader if he shows he really wants to change or at least try not to take out his frustration on the reader)

defends him when someone tries to take away from his abilities as a member of the Oracle, he's like "do you think you know more than HIM??" and it definitely gets into hands sometimes😅

Amity HATES the reader's father, she considers him to be even worse than ODALIA. What kind of father commits his 14-year-old son?? (she hopes he finds out that they have been engaged since they were 11😬) and can't stand the way he talks about his son . If I could, I would send you the Alador abobinables.

She highly encourages reading hobbies, especially plants and reading, you can even read to the kids together!

she defends Stolas a lot! reader from her family when she has to see them, especially from her father, if she and the reader's fiancée get along at this point, they will most likely make an alliance to protect Reader.

Amity even tells him about Azura's books that she reads! and compare notes and drawings they make of the characters

Listen to any babbling or rant that the reader has to give, whether it be frogs, plants or prophecies he saw on his own in the stars, astronomy, etc. Even if she doesn't understand shit, she just nods and won't let anyone take away that beautiful moment from the reader.

Imagine Amity introducing Luz to the reader! she would be SO happy to see that they would both get along because they are "nerdy" in different ways, but that they complement each other well.

I think Amity is definitely rooting for Stolas! reader to confess directly if he has a crush, after all, he is cute, comes from a good family and has a big heart, who wouldn't want to be with him? It even helps you make a note!

She wants the reader to find REAL love and not be forced to have a partner for something like status.

She supports the reader all the way when she decides to reveal herself to her family, she knows how scary it is, so she even offers him not only a shoulder to cry on, but also to stay with her for a while.

She tells him how brave he was and how happy she is for him.

Overall, rich, misunderstood best friends who stick together 💜

Hallo! You know who is someone I don’t see many people appreciating? Ganyu! Imagine a neurodivergent creator reader who is the one that finds her when she’s going through one of her crises when she doesn’t know if she belongs with the humans or Adepti and reader can understand her because that’s how they feel as well about life?? And about their old world and sometimes this one??

I feel that they could potentially bond over that and maybe even realize Ganyu is also somewhat neurodivergent in some way?? Or she’s very socially inept in some ways and reader can relate and share in those worries so the two just sometimes sit together shoulder to shoulder and just not say anything and just relax and everyone is confused??? when you’d initially explained to the (actually scarily strong irl) genshin characters who’d been claiming all kinds of wild stuff about you (”The Last Descender! The World Player!”)

you’d been in Liyue at the time, and out of everyone, the first you could see believed you were a mortal on Earth before (and not ruling it 💀) was Ganyu.

She’d looked shocked, like the others, but you could quickly see her get more and mire visibly twitchy and excited as you explained further

(rlly unlike the just,, utter confusion on Xiao’s, Zhongli’s, Shenhe’s, and Cloud Retainer’s faces, so convinced of your divinity there’s no way you could be human- even just acting like one-)

but you did, and Ganyu loved it.

you actually didn’t interact much for the first month you were stuck in a gacha video game (the other alloegenes, gods, adepti, and citizens, including international, pulling you around for opinions on this and that)

But one night you couldn’t sleep (the Qixing provided amble spacious housing in a temple already apparently dedicated to you, one you’d never seen in game)

It’d been… a rough day.

Everywhere you went, miscommunications followed, and you still didn’t really know how to mask properly around these just- well, since they were real, aliens

sure, they mimicked stuff about humans, but not the people/culture you’d mostly been around, (and the adepti had their own code of behavior, which was so complex you’re sure they should’ve made an actual social behavior manual by now)

but you just couldn’t escape the endless cycle, not only that, but your executive function had apparently forgotten to keep up with some important appointments or otherwise things you had needed to get done earlier, so you were scrambling to send a late letter to Fontaine inventors who needed to get the project started in 3 days, which is how long the letter takes to get there, oh gods, and you needed to check on Inazuma, apparently Seirai island is getting lightningy again and the Raiden Shogun wants you in person as soon as possible to aid her with it, but you need to attend a Knights of Favonius meeting in 2 days-

Yeah. You were stressed, and honestly? crumbling under the pressure.

So you’d snuck out of your rooms (dodging the patrolling guards) and went to the office of the one person who knew who’d understand

Ganyu. Scribbling and mumbling in her office to herself, late into the night

She’d jumped at you slipping in without knocking (avoid the Milieth at all costs, even tho ur literally god and you’ve been told you can do whatever you want mostly)

and knocked a whooooollleee stack of papers to the floor, scattering it everywhere 😭

you’d scrambled to start picking them up,, but then she stops you frantically saying “No, no, it’s okay, it’s not a big deal I promise, there’s no need to cry over these silly papers, heaven-sent!”

what??

oh.

oh no.

it’d just been one more thing you’d messed up on top of all of today (and tbh this whole month whirlwind of becoming some kind of god of the continent)

and Ganyu was, Ganyu <3

she was sweet and kind and so overwhelmingly helpful, how could you make a mess of her life too-

“Emperor? Huangdi?”

you’re just sitting on the floor now, but you startle when she gently holds your upper arms, calling your name very softly, so soft if she wasn’t saying you actual name you’d think she was talking to something else, something precious to her

the qilin guides you up, easily supporting your weight, she directs you to her couch, and manuvers you into laying your head across her plush thighs, the half-adepti’s pants aren’t as skin-tight like in-game, they’re actually the cosiest fabric you’ve ever laid on (or maybe that’s just a combination of your fragileness and her thick thighs)

she rubs your shoulder and back, offering a tissue (when did she get that-)

and that’s when you know you’ve chosen your first friend in Teyvat perfectly :)

you sneak out nearly every night for those first few months in Liyue (not including travel, which you tried to limit or you’d both make an excuse why she needed to come with lol)

just to sneak into her office, and you’d nearly cried a second time on her when she offered some notes about both standard human and adepti behaviors (after all, she’s had to study them both to fit into both)

Ganyu learns to do your hair and you do hers 🥺 she can’t bring herself to trust anyone to cut her hair but you, and you always try to do styles that don’t get in her way <3

like buns with a braid wrapped around it, or two space buns (Keqing didn’t say anything but Ganyu gossiped to you about how she could see a little smile on her face whenever she ran into Ganyu that week, obviously cutely thinking how they matched)

While of course the first thing Ganyu did was propose to help you schedule/manage your time so you wouldn’t have to rely on your non-existent executive function-

you’d also made sure to literally plop ur chin over her shoulder to make sure you saw “break” AT LEAST once a day, now that she was incorporating herself a little into ur schedule too (Ganyu fought tooth and nail to get rid of that lunch-break, but then you threatened to also not eat, and she caved so fast LMAO)

(bc she’s a die-hard workaholic ofc she wants this, after you heard abt her schedule in-game you’d thought it was lucky she was not fully human or she would’ve dropped dead, but now even moreso watching that horror in real time 💀)

which!! she!! is so!! (at this point you usually just squeeze her round cheeks a little too hard before then wrapping your arms as far as they can go around her torso and squeezing even harder-)

After a couple of “your trauma 🤝 my trauma” nights, she honestly understood really well where your limits were so to speak, what you could and simply couldn’t do

and was the first one willing to explain to people you have executive dysfunction (and was quick to cut off any “just try harder/pull yourself up by your bootstraps/just believe in yourself” nonsense when if came to your disabilities, even tho those were few and far between moments if any)

afterall, people had expected the same from her, and she frequently fell into that thinking herself (it also didn’t help that as you tried to give her a normal schedule at first, which benefitted her human side more, it felt like the Qixing was stumbling to keep up with the supernatural workload now being distributed)

Ganyu knew it had been your influence originally that helped her when she’d had her workload lightened/then followed by the traveler when she ran off

(and regardless of the truth too, when you’d finally gotten the courage to tell her how you actually interacted with Teyvat, unable to steer actions from what the plot dictated)

she’d still attributed it to you, (”well, you could’ve always just picked up your things and left, yes? But even if it was ‘pre-planned’ like you say, you still wanted to follow through and were… ahem, h-happy for m-me, right?” you’d smacked right into her you stimmed so relieved)

You didn’t exactly know how to explain it, bc everyone was really accepting,

from citizens to nobles, officials and guards, to vision-users, gods and other supernatural beings that inhabited Teyvat

no one judged you for unmasking/stimming, but in that way that meant they didn’t really understand what was different about you, they just knew you were and they’d still decided to treat you with the same adoration anyway

but Ganyu,

she treated you the same but knew what stims you did when you were happy or excited, what ones comforted you, what your latest verbal stims were, and what your “classics” were (u never had to tell her, she just learned them quick and all on her own, bless this woman 🛐 )

Ganyu understood all the good and all the bad and saw you unmasked and still laughed so hard at your jokes she fell into your side and always asked another question about your hyperfixations/interests

you’d quickly realized there were a lot of neurodivergent overlaps between stuff Ganyu did and what you did

(whether or not she herself was, you just assumed yes based on what you researched, but there wasn’t any official testing in teyvat)

it makes more sense to you after applying the neurospicy filter to all her actions why she’s so obsessed with work (she hyperfixates on certain projects the Qixing has going, and has a long-term passive fixation on scheduling/stationary/related office work stuff)

but this also meant you understood why she was always asking for more about you, your mortal world, your time here, where you wanted to go in teyvat, what you wanted to do, how’d you feel when the game did this to someone, what about-?

needless to say you couldn’t (and didn’t have to 🥲) contain your stims at knowing you became a slight hyperfixation for her

she got all embarassed and blushy about it!!! <333😩 (and did that cute thing where she just kinda sways in place holding her hands together when bashful or nervous ✨💔✨)

unrelated to above, but your favorite thing (besides sightseeing or eating at yet another new restaurant in liyue) to do together is go do something childish

like playing children’s games (hopscotch, or hill sliding in ganyus case) from both ur childhoods

u thought itd be a good idea to get Ganyu to relax a little more and have more fun outside her job!

(again, unrelated bc idk im scattered with these headcanons, the cryo user loves when you help her pick new outfits at stores not bc she wants to impress u what)

ok last unrelated headcanon i promise,

Ganyu wasn’t overly affectionate before, honestly she was always going too fast to stop for those kind of casual touches (and when was there time in her old scedule)

but after a month of getting comfortable around each other, she subconciously gets up from her desk (mid-reading a file/carrying it with her lmao)

and sits on her office couch, making room for you to lay on her (and she is the perfect pillow)

(you dont point it out, you know she’ll get too embarassed, and you refuse to lose Ganyu cuddles <3)
