What is an ECG and Why Should You Care?

What is an ECG and Why Should You Care?
If you've ever had your heart "checked," chances are it involved an ECG — short for Electrocardiogram.
But what does that actually mean?
An ECG is a quick, painless test that records the electrical signals of your heart. Think of it like a graph showing how your heart beats — every little bump and wave tells a story about how your heart is doing.
🔍 What Can an ECG Detect?
Irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias)
Signs of a heart attack (past or present)
Issues with blood flow
Enlarged heart chambers
Electrical signal problems in your heart
When Should You Get an ECG?
If you experience symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, or a racing heart, your doctor may suggest it. It’s also commonly done before surgery or as part of a routine heart checkup — especially if you have a family history of heart disease.
The Best Part?
It takes just 5–10 minutes, involves no pain, and could help catch a serious problem before it becomes life-threatening.
So don’t ignore your heart — it works hard for you every second of every day. 💗

Can I do a serious post for a minute.
If you're having chronic fatigue, changes in blood pressure, memory problems, low grade fevers, frequent headaches, brain fog, dysautonomia and faint-like experiences when you stand up too fast, you need to get checked for anemia.
If you have unexplained chronic pain, including muscle, joint and bone pain, muscle weakness, dry skin, chronic fatigue, high blood pressure and fevers, you need to get checked for vitamin D deficiency.
These are both incredibly common (some statics say 30% and 42% respectively, but if that's too low or high is anyone's guess) and widely overlooked conditions that can and frequently do cause debilitating symptoms if left untreated. Just because they're widely known about and made fun of in various media doesn't mean you're immune to them. Both of these conditions can result in fatal complications without proper treatment.
I've seen people immediately jump to much harsher and scarier self-diagnoses after experiencing these symptoms and while that is entirely possible and I'm not here to tell you what you don't have, many chronic conditions are diagnosed by exclusion, and sometimes it really is just "that silly deficiency everyone thinks they know about". And chances are even if you do have other issues, anemia and/or vitamin D deficiency exacerbate your symptoms, and it's an important enough symptom for further diagnosis of autoimmune disorders.
Don't just start randomly taking supplements. You didn't know what dosage or form of those you need. Talk to a doctor. In my experience, getting a referral to a hematologist is much easier than to a rheumatologist or neurologist. It's a good place to start figuring out what's going on. Start there.
#jay rambles about life.txt#all of this goes double for POC because as a rule of a thumb doctors aren't trained to notice the more obvious sign of either of these#on another other than white skin. Anemia's telling sing being paleness will tell them nothing. advocate for yourself & further testing#on anything other than white skin* eh autocorrect

it's kinda funny that i have all the symptoms of anemia to the point where my doctor prescribed blood tests to check but also iron right away cause it was that obvious just on physical exam, but then i don't even have anemia. im a poser for anemia
#i went to see the doctor because another doctor i met casually said i probably had anemia and needed iron and vitamins#the whole world agrees but not my blood tests

If anyone wants to send good wishes and prayers to my mom's cat (lowkey a family cat as well, but she loves my mom the most) then that would be appreciated <3
#She had to have an emergency vet visit and is dealing with anemia rn. We're still waiting on test results to see what is causing the anemia#so any nice prayers and wishes that it isn't anything super duper bad would be nice#i mean anemia is serious so something bad is there but yknow#cyanbug thoughts

Your girl (me) is now supplementing iron. After all of those years I found doctors, who decided it's time to do something about my anemia. I hope I'll see some improvement (especially in breathing) soon ❤️🩹
#anemic#anemia#health#I also have to have some procedures this year#and get over my panic of blood tests bc it look like i'll have them A LOT this year 😬#i hope the feeling of not being able to breathe will disappear during this treatment 🤞🏻#not me living with this for soooo long and only now being treated for it

vent moment but my health is a bit worse than i let on, which is weird ik since it seems like complain about it all the time here, and apparently i also look sick, because two separate people in their 40s or 50s asked me, 24, if i needed their seat on the bus. kind of them. but humiliating nonetheless.
#medical stuff cw#i sat on the steps instead of taking their seat#vent cw#i have to take five different pills a day excluding birth control which i also take for health reasons but okay#i have to thank italy for its healthcare system because at least i dont have to pay a fuckton for all that stuff. except birthcontrol.#as i may have mentioned they found quite a bit of blood in my piss so im getting tested for ✨️cancer✨️#also because i've been having health issues which might be rated#my blood work is all off but i didnt get tested for tumoral cells specifically because i may have 'just' an autoimmune condition#so im on heavy duty antibiotics too now bc i also developed antibiotic resistance last year. anyway.#i need to take those and then they'll test my peepee again but this time they will also test explicitly for tumoral cells#because something is off and my previous blood work didnt point out what exactly#terrible anemia and other slightly-off numbers that however shouldnt be off considering my lifestyle#i eat almost everything. drink plenty of water. exercise. barely smoke. not even drinking anymore. i'm not too fat nor too skinny.#so. some of the numbers that are off dont really have a reason to be off which is why they are testing my blood and piss for cancer#but like. in 3 weeks because i have to take antibiotics and iron meds (not supplements. meds.) first#so my mind's trying to convince itself that i dont have a tumor. but what if i do? i know i dont. but not knowing makes me go insane#also i have to get tested for heart disease because that motherfucker is not working properly. doesnt pump enough blood to my brain.#i took an ekg and it came back pretty normal except for tachycardia#now i have to go get an holter ekg - but was told to wait until uni starts again bc i need that exam to be done when i have a daily routine#so basically they slap electrodes and shit on me for 24 hrs while i go do my shit around the city and then see how my heart behaved#because i cant stand without struggling to breathe and sometimes it happens when in laying down to.#sometimes i cant fall asleep because i cant breathe#at first the doc thought it might be a reflux issue but not. all good on that front.#so. we'll see. and i mean. i KNOW it's not cancer. like. i'd be dead by now bc i've been having these symptoms for five months#however. i dont know if it's not an autoimmune disease. and if it is? what am i gonna do?

I've been back at my mom's for over two months now. How am I getting sicker? I planned at least a month to recover from health assessments how am I worse?
#ow..#went to urgent care last saturday and the results were finally weird enough for the test to notice#from my knowledge it looks like anemia#but my lymphocytes/white blood cells are crazy high#luckily I've got the pain to manageable now#I jus thought the sickness would go away when the pain did#chronic illness#i just want my life back

girl with the most severe form of kidney disease forgets to adequately hydrate for six hours and starts to feel the Effects
#:)#if i don't drink enough water i start to feel like i'm dying#on account of the specific organs that are damaged i need more water to be adequately hydrated#however watch out! because if i drink too much i throw up. organ failure is a series of many such saw traps#on the upside i think the anemia being treated is finally starting to fix the fatigue#which is nice! i'd say i'm starting to plan my comeback to my Projects#but i still have to go through kidney biopsy 2 the biopsing at some point in the near to intermediate future#so i STILL can't commit to anything until after then#however i'm in a good steady groove with the rest of my medical stuff. enough i can start to map out a schedule finally#hopefully once this surgery is out of the way the rest of the year should be a regular rhythm#of meds/injections/blood tests/consultant appointments until whenever i get approved to go on the transplant waiting list at. some point#wish i knew when anything was but i've almost been sick for a whole year and STILL don't have a diagnosis so i'm not holding out hope!#but if everything holds stable for another month or so i might be in a place to genuinely try working on stuff again#as always grain of salt but things SHOULD be more predictable this year#i mean. i can't have a sudden mystery life threatening illness happen twice lol. it's all uphill! apparently

its blood test day, and while i know i probably wont get results until next week im making my own lil theories about what ive got
#there's definitely some kind of anemia that i already take iron for but i learned recently that there's also b12 anemia#so it could be that instead but the iron is working well enough#(i wont take today's iron until after the test in case it messes with anything? idk)#and im not set on the diabetes thing bc i dont really have symptoms at all??#but ill let them do it anyway bc idk what else would've fucked with my eye like that??

looking over test results. looking up what one of them says. "if your results are higher than the norm your bone marrow is fucked. you have bone marrow disease. or this type of blood cancer. or this extremely rare deadly disease. no other option sorry". norm is between 0-19 my result is 31

#i mean i knew my blood is fucked i just didn't think it's that bad#um good luck to me ig. guess i'll ask my doctor abt this on sunday#ashamed to admit how much this stressed me out as soon as i read this#mostly bc with my other tests there's either an option i know about (like inflammation etc) or just. stress. but not here it seems#medical //#ask to tag#sorry forgot cws at first#edit: ok reading a bit more now. it might be that blood cancer thing BUT not in effect yet??#bc it usually causes anemia or weak bones but i'm fine in that regard. and there's a version like that#where the disease MIGHT start eventually but you're ok now. Hm
