Paradise: Season 1 – TV Review
TL;DR – Cornerstoned by some fantastic performances, we explore a world where things might be perfect, as long as you don’t look any deeper. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5. Disclosure – I paid for the Disney+ service that viewed this series. Paradise Review – It might just be the current climate, or the fact that rewatching The West Wing makes me feel a growing sense of naivety. But I have been…

#wrong. Lin should play Angela.
Heyyy, you got there without needing my help.
But, if we're making this assumption, we should also take into account that both Hermes and Lee Scoresby, in their respective series, are relatively minor characters who are also of the trickster type (to a degree). Thus, the best equivalent character from the Inheritance Cycle is obviously Angela. Ergo, LMM should be cast as Angela.
But let's take it a step further. It's arguable whether or not the Spuderwick film adaptation was bad, but I do think it missed some stuff from the source material, and it has been suggested for a readaptation (I think). Following the same line of reasoning from above, I think Hogsqueal the Hobgoblin would fit the description best. Sure, there are a couple of other semi-trickster creatures, but I think they are less fitting and one of them is the villain himself, which wouldn't work. So now, I ask you to imagine Lin Manuel Miranda as a hobgoblin.
If this idea sends shivers down your spine and haunts you forever - well, you have a better imagination than I do. What would LMM even look like as a hobgoblin? I think this is an interesting question.
That said, hopefully no casting should be granted. Good screenwriting and directions are needed forst anyway, and casting a very specific, if good, actor isn't going to help with that. Here for a good adaptation for our favourite books!
So His Dark Materials had a bad movie and 10 years later it got a good show. Percy Jackson had a bad movie and 10 years later it got a good show. What both of those examples also have in common? Lin Manuel Miranda! LMM is the answer to everything. If we want Eragon adaptation to be good we need Lin to play Brom

Angela the Band
Jamie-Lin: the hearthrob
Better suited for a kpop group, Jamie-Lin is the opposite of Nicky D.—calm, chill, and ripped as hell. He is constantly shirtless for some reason, and knows that with a look the girls will be swooning.
He’s just along for the ride. He’s also a wearwolf, and is ride or die for his best friend Favian. When fav killed a dude, he got him out, and is now on the run with him.
He loves singing, has a great voice, and is actually thriving in the band. He’s pretty sure the hyper one—Nike? Has a crush on him. He’s got a hot sec before he reciprocates, but Nicky D. Might surprise him.

Elsie Carson-Holt at LGBTQ Nation:
Anti-trans activists are outraged that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed boxers who failed gender and testosterone tests in the boxing world championships last year to compete at the Paris Olympics, even though the boxers are not transgender. Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu‑ting of Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) were not permitted to compete in the 2023 women’s world championships for boxing because they failed the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) gender testing. IBA president Umar Kremlev said that DNA tests had “proved they had XY chromosomes and were thus excluded.” He also said that countries were recruiting cis men to compete in women’s sports. There is no evidence of that. Khelif, though, said last year that she was excluded by the IBA because she’s Algerian: “People have conspired against Algeria so that its flag doesn’t get raised and it doesn’t win the gold medal.” Unlike the IBA, the IOC is permitting both women to compete but isn’t commenting on the results of gender testing, their genetics, or their hormone levels other than to say that they meet the IOC’s eligibility rules. [...] Neither boxer is transgender – they were assigned female at birth and identify as women, making them cisgender – though anti-trans activists have spread transphobic rhetoric about the two women’s gender identities, including once-beloved children’s book author and current transphobe, J.K. Rowling.
Anti-trans influencers such as Riley Gaines and J.K. Rowling are throwing a faux outrage temper over two women (Imane Khelif [ALG] and Lin Yu-ting [TPE]) competing in boxing that are alleged to be “male”.
Both Khelif and Yu-ting are women and have always competed in women’s competitions.
This episode has revealed that the anti-trans movement has no valid argument on “saving women’s sports” if even cis women are being attacked for being not hewing to rigid womanhood standards.

Two Boxers Walk Into the Ring...
No-one can have missed the absolute scenes on social media, both before and after the boxing match between Imane Khelife and Angela Carini, from which Carini withdrew after just 46 seconds, having received a blow to the face.
Social media had already been abuzz with unfounded claims that Khelife was a man, largely based on her athletic (and to Westerners, “masculine”) body type. (The same rumours had also been spread about Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-Ting; also a woman, assigned female at birth, who got into boxing to protect her mother from domestic violence.) From this explosion of misinformation came increasingly wild claims from all the usual suspects: that she was trans (in spite of coming from a Muslim country where transitioning isn’t allowed); that she had “self-identified” as a woman in order to win (again, not possible in Algeria) plus some quite ghoulish speculation about her sex organs, her medical history and the type of puberty she might have undergone.
But here’s the thing.
Khelife is not trans. There is one trans boxer at the Olympics, a trans man called Hergie Bacyadan, who for some reason has gone almost unnoticed in this desperate attempt to prove a conspiracy that just isn’t happening. Imane Khelife was assigned female at birth, has a passport confirming it, and has spent her life as a woman, fighting against her country’s patriarchal ideas of what women are supposed to do. Not only this, but she is an ambassador for women and girls, who originally took up boxing to protect herself from those who disapproved of her interest in sports.
She was disqualified from the 2023 women’s world championships because (according to a Russian source that becomes less and less trustworthy the more you look into it) tests apparently showed some kind of unspecified anomaly, which may have been either elevated testosterone (quite possible in a woman) or the presence of XY chromosomes, once more altogether possible for a cis woman.
Nor does her condition (if she even has one) mean she is automatically likely to win against her opponents. In 2020, she made it to the quarter-finals of the Olympics, where she was defeated by Kellie Harrington, and she has been boxing on the international circuit for years without any of her wins or defeats gaining much attention.
Until now.
But her fight against Angela Carini on Thursday made her a magnet for some truly disgusting hate, largely, it seems, from the kind of men who enjoy threatening women, whatever the reason or excuse. In fact, there were distinct parallels with this and the recent anti-Muslim riots in Southport after the murderer of three little girls was falsely rumoured by agents of the far-right to be a Muslim immigrant.
Let’s be clear. Even if the attacker had been a Muslim immigrant, this violence would have been completely unacceptable. But the mob just wanted the opportunity to scapegoat and attack a community, in exactly the same way that the people attacking, threatening and objectifying Imane Khelife wanted the chance to attack a woman for not conforming to their idea of what a woman should be like.
In this context, it’s hard to see the rage and violence levelled against her for this victory as anything other than misogynistic - and racist.
It’s also hard to understand why in a sport like boxing – where the whole point is to hit your opponent – a person should be criticized for following the rules of the sport. It’s almost as if excellence is allowed in men’s sports, but in women’s sports, it’s automatically viewed as suspicious. And Imane Khelife isn’t the only athlete of colour accused of “being a man” because she defeated a white woman. Serena Williams has spent her career fending off accusations that she “was born a man” both because of her muscular physique and her excellence in her field. Caster Semenya, who has naturally elevated levels of testosterone, has been likewise demonized. It’s almost as if the people driving this toxic narrative believe that only men can excel in sport.
And as for the argument that claims that elevated natural testosterone levels in a woman is “an unfair advantage,” don’t all elite athletes have some kind of physical advantage? Do we dismiss basketball players for being unusually tall, or weight-lifters for being unusually muscular, or runners for being lean and light? Why do we celebrate Michael Phelps for his genetic advantage, but penalize Caster Semenya for hers? Women have fought so very hard for the chance to participate in sports that were once seen as the sole province of men. Now, when they dare to excel in them, they are accused of secretly being men, or of not being “proper women.”
This isn’t any kind of feminism I recognize. The feminism I believe in is about breaking down barriers, not setting them. I personally dislike boxing (both for men and for women), but I respect any individual’s choice to compete. And attacking a woman boxer for winning a boxing match is as misogynistic as claiming to “defend” her opponent by painting her as a victim. Both athletes chose to compete. Both accepted the risks. Both have had their Olympic moment ruined by people who don’t care about sports, or the facts, or even women. This isn’t feminism. This is the worst and most patronizing kind of prejudice, and it actively hurts women – all women, but especially women of colour and those who do not conform to traditional ideas of what a woman should look like, what sports she should enjoy, or how she should behave.
Women fought for years for the right to make their own choices, to have their own identities outside of the stereotypes set by the patriarchy. Questioning those choices - those identities - isn’t progress.
Supporting women doesn’t mean protecting them from themselves.
It means not setting limits on who a woman wants to be.

2025 Upcoming Sapphic Fiction I’m Excited For! 🏳️‍🌈
Here are the top nine sapphic books I’m looking forward to for 2025! This year I’m excited to see how much more diversity there is amongst sapphic fiction - racial diversity, physical diversity, gender and sexuality diversity! Every year we get more and more books featuring a wider range of characters, and it makes me delighted every time.
This upcoming year seems to be the return of pink in sapphic book covers! So many new books this year incorporate pastel colours into the cover art, and despite last year's butch renaissance there seems to be a return to femme characters. I'm not complaining - but it would be nice to see further butch and gender nonconforming characters.
Below you’ll find Goodreads links and summaries to each book. As always, this list is only a starting point - if you want to find more sapphic fiction, there’s plenty to find on Goodreads and StoryGraph!
Roll For Love by M. K. England Dungeons & Dragons loving Harper Reid's summer is off to a rough start. First, she and her mom moved across the country to Clintville, Virginia (population: tiny) to live on her Poppy's farm, which means saying goodbye to her friends and finding a new D&D group to play with. The only thing keeping her going is getting to polish her carpentry skills in the farm's woodshop so she can get an apprenticeship after graduation. That is if she can tell her mom that she doesn't want to go to college, which is kind of hard when mom keeps asking about applications and if she has picked out the perfect school yet. What Harper really needs is to channel the confidence and bravery of her awesome D&D character, and then maybe she could find a new D&D group and tell her mom that her passion is woodworking, not a four-year university. And, hey, maybe she could find a cool girlfriend, too. The one encounter Harper wasn't expecting was running into Ollie Shifflet: neighbor, childhood best friend, and, oh yeah, first crush. Unlike Harper, Ollie seems to have everything figured out. She plans on spending the summer digging around in her garden and hanging out with her best friends and trying D&D with them for the first time. Then after graduation it is community college, then opening a small nature-based daycare center and living her best bisexual life . . . well, as long as that last bit stays private. But when beautiful, bold, Harper Reid comes waltzing back into her life and joins her D&D group, suddenly Ollie's plan seems to have a Harper-shaped hole in it. So when feelings start to develop in their Dungeons & Dragons game between Harper's brash Barbarian character and Ollie's proud Paladin, Harper and Ollie begin wondering if they are falling for each in real life or if it is all just apart of the game. As the school year draws to a close and the final boss looms on the horizon, Harper and Ollie must decide if the relationship that they have been roleplaying in the game could be as real for them.
Love Points to You by Alice Lin Sixteen-year-old Lynda Fan has the skills and the drive to get into the Rhode Island School of Design—but not the money. Her parents are too busy paying for her stepsister’s violin lessons to help Lynda get into art school. So when her rich and arrogant classmate, Angela Wu, offers to hire Lynda as a character designer for an otome game—a love story-based video game—she jumps at the opportunity. Lynda isn’t exactly a romantic, but in pursuit of her dreams, she discovers things she never knew about herself while also finding love with every heart she draws.
Ready to Score by Jodie Slaughter Jade Dunn has spent years trying to climb her way to the top of the southern high school football food chain. Now, the only thing standing between her and that future head coach spot is years of small-town good ‘ol boy politics. When she scores an invite to a highly coveted monthly poker game perfect for networking, she jumps at the chance for a seat at the table. Only to find the one person with the ability to shake her there. An infuriatingly sexy art teacher who plays her cards like she’s gunning for Jade’s deserved spot. Francesca Lim never thought she’d be happy in a small town, not after living and breathing hardcore Texas football her whole life. But two years ago, the promise of forever love had her leaving behind a burgeoning coaching career for a new life - only for it to burst into flames. Now, she has a chance to gain back a piece of her life she thought she’d left in Houston. The only one standing in the way? The prickly assistant coach that Francesca can’t keep her mind or hands off of. Not wanting to risk losing out on a dream job, Jade and Francesca can’t afford to give in to the iron hot attraction that simmers beneath their biting interactions, so they try desperately to ignore it. Too bad their hearts don’t seem to be as on board with the game plan.
Dream On, Ramona Riley by Ashley Herring Blake Once upon a time, Ramona Riley was a student at a prestigious art school, with dreams of landing in Hollywood as a costume designer to the stars. But after her father’s car accident, she had to quit and return to her small New Hampshire town, Clover Lake, to help take care of her younger sister. Twelve years later, Ramona is still working at the town’s café, all but given up on her dream. But when a big-budget romantic comedy comes to Clover Lake to film, she wonders if this could be her chance. There’s only one problem—Dylan Monroe, her first kiss and Hollywood’s favorite wild child—is the star. Dylan Monroe has always lived an unconventional life, having famous rock icons for parents. But she wants to prove that she’s not some chaotic, talentless nepo baby, that she has actual skills, that she’s just a normal person. To do that, Dylan takes on a project at a charming lake town—she even works at the town’s café (very quaint), shadowing a local waitress there (very cute), and asks her to take Dylan around to do Normal People Things. But Dylan soon realizes it’s not just some small-town waitress she’s getting to know—Ramona Riley is someone she’s met before, someone who remembers her even more vividly. Before long, however, reality hits them, and both women must decide if the spark between them can fan the flames of their individual dreams, or if it will extinguish their light.
Amelia, If Only by Becky Albertalli Amelia Applebaum isn’t in love with Walter Holland. He just happens to be her favorite moderately famous, chaotically bisexual YouTuber. Who she just happened to invite to prom. (But it’s fine. No, for real. If you delete the post, it didn’t happen.) Okay, maybe her friends are right: She’s slightly parasocially infatuated. But Amelia just knows sparks would fly—if only she could connect with Walter for real. If only he would host a meet and greet. If only it were just a short road trip away. And if only Amelia could talk her best friends into making it the perfect last hurrah before graduation—even her newly single, always-cynical, guitar-toting best friend Natalie. One thing’s for sure: All roads lead to butterflies. But what if Amelia’s butterflies aren’t for Walter at all?
All Nighter by Cecelia Vinesse Autumn Povitsky is a high-achieving, booked and busy, straight-A nightmare. She’s currently having a crisis of self—she needs a fake ID ASAP—but because she’s a total square, she has no idea where to get one. Enter buzzcut hottie Tara Esposito. She’s a rule breaker and party crasher of the highest degree, and if anyone knows where to get a fake, it’s her. But Tara has hung up her James Dean leather jacket for the night. If she doesn’t finish this godforsaken essay that’s already weeks late, she can kiss her upcoming graduation goodbye. One brainy girl who needs a fake ID before sundown. One serial rebel who needs to turn in an essay before sunrise. It’s obvious what needs to happen here. But with a years-long feud keeping the girls from working together, this may be a night to forget…or one they’ll remember forever.
Kiss Me, Maybe by Gabriella Gamez Librarian Angela Gutierrez has never been kissed. But after posting a video about her late bloomer status and ace identity, she's finally ready to get some firsts out of the way. Using her new influencer status to come up with a scavenger hunt idea in which the winner earns her first kiss, Angela realizes she may need some help to pull off the event. Enter Krystal Ramirez, hot bartender and Angela’s unrequited crush of five years. Despite vowing that romantic love isn’t for her, Krystal seems awfully determined to help Angela pull off the scavenger hunt and find true love. There’s just one the connection between Angela and Krystal is getting stronger and stronger the more they hang out, until Angela isn’t sure she wants to go through with the scavenger hunt after all. But Krystal is convinced that she isn’t capable of love and before long, Angela realizes she's falling head over heels for a woman who may never love her back.
French Pressed Love by M. C. Hutson Jordan Alexander is in a rut. Her life is not what she envisioned for herself, and she’s barely able to scrape by on the salary she makes as a coffee shop manager. Suddenly facing the daunting prospect of either finding a new roommate or a more affordable place to live, Jordan's stress levels reach a boiling point. Noémie St. Pierre is a customer from hell. Every weekday morning, Noémie struts into the coffee shop like she owns the place and often makes a fuss. Jordan can’t stand the woman. But Noémie's life isn't as perfect as it seems, and when her father—founder of the globally expanding Poutine Heaven franchise—cuts off her financial support, Noémie's world is turned upside down. Desperate, Noémie gets a job at the coffee shop, and upon learning of Jordan’s housing woes, proposes they move in together. Reluctantly, Jordan agrees. As they navigate their new living arrangement, Jordan uncovers surprising depth to Noémie that challenges her previous assumptions, and she develops feelings she never expected. But Noémie dates men, and Jordan doesn’t do relationships. So, all Jordan can hope is that her feelings won’t brew complications.
Marisol Acts the Part by Elle Gonzalez Rose After wrapping the hit drama that made her a star, actress Marisol Polly-Rodriguez is worried she might be entering her flop era. A concern that’s amplified when she’s suddenly dumped by her co-star turned boyfriend, Miles, for being “unserious”. With Marisol’s post-breakup meltdown splashed across the tabloids, she sets out to show that she’s just as talented as Miles by landing a role on the same buzzworthy show as him. From the eccentric director who pushes her to her limits, to the snobby castmate who can’t stand her, Marisol realizes that her dream of nabbing a Supporting Actress nomination during awards season may never be a reality. The drama only continues as Marisol develops feelings for her ex's on-screen love interest, Jamila. The wounds of her breakup barely healed, Marisol is hesitant to fall in love again. But as Jamila gets Marisol to unlock her full potential as an actress, and Marisol returns the favor by helping Jamila find her confidence and style as she navigates newfound fame, the sparks between them quickly become too intense to ignore.

A Potential Timeline for Project Moon Media (Spoilers for all media)
Note: This is mostly broad guesses based on certain interactions/lines across all the available media and common sense (i.e, the smallest or simplest possible time span), so there may be some spoilers from other games. I may also be misremembering some things and skipping others as well, so corrections/additions are welcome.
(I will be using the Day/Month/Year format)
1/985: Nocturnal Sweeping and Canto VIII occur. Lin Daiyu is almost 30, but not 30.
Hong Lu is older than Daiyu, and his birthday is 6/6. He is either 29 or 30.
1/984 to 12/984: Selva Oscura to LCB Check-Up occur.
Late 12/983 to Early 1/984: The Sinners finally meet each other and form the body of LCB.
24/12/983: Sinclair’s family is massacred by Kromer and N Corp.’s inquisition (upper limit).
If the Sinners’ number is connected to the order in which they were recruited, then Outis and Gregor joined Limbus after Sinclair, pushing the formation date of LCB to early January 984.
6/983 to 12/983: Considering the previous theory, all Sinners, from Don Quixote to Gregor, are recruited by Limbus.
Yi Sang is a mysterious case, but he was recruited before Aseah was “stolen” by the Ring (which was stated in Leviathan) or after he returned (end of Leviathan). I’m partial to him being recruited after Aseah returned, as Hermann mentioned him in Yi Sang’s flashback and Gubo didn’t make any reference to Yi Sang in Leviathan.
6/983: Leviathan (Chapter 2 onwards) occurs.
24/12/982: Chapter 1 of Leviathan happens.
Lower limit for Sinclair’s family to be killed.
Late 11/982 to Early 12/982: Angela releases the Light and the Library is exiled to the Outskirts.
The League of Nine collapses at some time before the release of Light, but within the same year and close to it (“Pierce of a Torn Winter” EGO gift). This is due to the Ring becoming obsessed with Vergilius’ orphans (his orphanage was attacked by the first Library’s guests to wake up), which is the likely reason for them to “steal” Aseah from Nagel und Hammer to begin with.
~981 to 982: Library of Ruina and Distortion Detective occur.
Timeline is unclear. It's unlikely the entire game took more than 2 years, especially due to the latter half and the SotC/Impuritas receptions.
Distortion Detective occurs on the early part (when the Library is an Urban Legend)
~978: Ayin releases the Light, but it is sabotaged by Angela and she creates the Library. An unknown time after, likely no more than a couple of months, the first Distortion incident happens: the Pianist.
Timeline is unclear. The ritual at Quercus Village (Distortion Detective) is monthly and produced 45 Distortions, meaning that between the release of Light and LoR’s Urban Legend status there are approximately 3 years and 8 months at most. For simplicity’s sake, let’s say there are 3 years between LC and LoR.
~968 to ~978: Lobotomy Corporation occurs.
Most of the incidents we know happen around this timeframe. It’s impossible to give them a proper place.
~965 to ~968: The Smoke War happens around this time (most likely in the 966-967 range), with the new L Corp. and its allies winning.
Assuming Gregor is 35 in 984, he fought in the Smoke War as a teenager (17 to 18).
Similarly, assuming Myo is 29 during the last part of LoR, she fought in the War as a… 13- or 14-years-old girl.
~965: Hong Lu and Lin Daiyu are approximately 10 years old. The massacre of the Kong family happens and Garion cleans it, moving to destroy Carmen’s labs in the Outskirts afterward.
~955: Lin Daiyu is born, and possibly Hong Lu too.
~784: The Human-Bloodfiend occurs, with the Manchengan family joining the human side. La Manchaland amusement park is created by Don Quixote, but after some time it collapses.

Hey y'all, it's P4A time!
Tumblr media
The Project for Awesome (or P4A) is an annual event where we raise awareness of charities that make the world a little bit of a better place and we raise money to redistribute to charities voted on by our community. Legally speaking, the Project for Awesome is a project of the Foundation to Decrease World Suck (or FTDWS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The FTDWS exists to fundraise for the benefit of other nonprofits and only awards grants to organizations that are 501(c)(3) or foreign equivalent classified charities. The nine board members are John Green, Hank Green, Mike Green, Marie Ann Fernandez-Silva, Valerie Barr, Taylor Behnke, Benny Fine, Rosianna Halse Rojas, and Angela Lin. In 2024, we raised a grand total of $3,530,889.25, including several generous matching donations. 50% of donations went to Save the Children and Partners in Health, and 50% of donations were split between 30 charities chosen by the Project for Awesome community. You can see a list of all the charities that have received P4A grants here.
You can watch the live stream here:
You can also go to the perks page and donate using this link!
I have gotten the digital download bundle for the past several years, and it's a nice little treat that keeps delivering throughout the year. But they also have lots of other perks, so you should definitely check it out!
