would you mind terribly if i asked for your help in finding a fic.. it was cloud getting sent back in time, and he just had to open a door for the world to fix everything but instead he goes and infiltrates(?) the soldiers program? when zack makes it there from gongaga he convinces angesl to take him on as a mentor... sephiroth isnt mad yet and is kinda the mentor for cloud who acts very much like a scared disgruntled cat when interacting with seph... the world rights the wrongs in the end...

I can try! That one doesn’t immediately ring a bell, so it might take a second — I’ll post this so other people can possibly look/respond while I look. I’ll edit this ask with updates.

I’m assuming you read it on AO3 and not FFnet — if that’s not the case, feel free to shoot me another anon and clarify — any other details like ships (or lack thereof), Cloud’s age (very young, CC!Era, FFVII!Era, etc.), or specific moments or phrases would also help me start narrowing things down.

Edit 1: it’s not this one is it? This one has cloud being unhinged around (a sane and relatively normal) Sephiroth and the mentor aspect is kind of there. The Angeal/Zack mentoring plot point is there, too. The Fifth Act by Sinnatious also seems to fit what you’re saying — it’s such a well-known one I feel like it’s worth mentioning, just in case. I have not read either in a while, so I don’t remember if the “opening a door” plot point is there in either of them.

The First

The first to ever exist. Entity, no one (not even the strongest Celestials) and even began to fully comprehend. Nothing can compare to them. They are Death and Life.

Death

Also called; Lady Death, Kristin, Mumza

Can have any form

Unsually appers to others as humanoid being, normally as middle aged woman in dark, void-like dress sprinkled with gold, with dark hair

Is at infinite number of places

Has 3 kids

Life

Also called; Prime The Acient One

Never shows to anyone (or if it did, no one remembers)

Celestials

Watchers

Can see anything 

Can show you anything

Listeners

Admins

Becoming a Watcher or Listener:

Created - there is no such thing as  Listener or Watcher actually having a child. itš more like wowing strands of code together to create a new being, fully grown, ready to be and serve. It’s a complicated process, and as of today, only few actually know how to

Turned - Something that became much more popular lately. A player is chosen (most of the time without their knowledge and against their will), taken and by a very painful process that only a handful actually survives (and really, really rarely they manage to keep their sanity and memories) turned into a Celestials.

Admins becoming is much simpler. If a player has the genes, and abilities, they go to an Admin school where they learn how to run a server or world. School is not necessary, one can become an Adim by learning on their own or from a different Admn, but it’s the easiest way. Not all who graduated the school are actually Admins. Only after the Universe decides that they are capable enough, they Become an Admin. 

Markings - unusually lightning-like shape under their eye, the color of the Celestial (Admins-cyan, Watchers-purple, Listeners-green). Easily hideable by magic or make-up.

Out of body state - the ability to leave their physical body to an invisible state (fog-like, if the Celestial is powerful enough) that is as powerful or more than their physical state, just jk, not physical. They can still impact the world around them with magic.

Every Celestial has 3 things; their cape, their mask and a Celestial weapon. These things cannot be destroyed and shows Celestials loyalty to the cause.

Gods

Powerful beings. Every God or Goddess has their own domain they control.

…yeah, that’s it.

Serve Death

After one pemadies, they can be given a choice to become an angle of death.

They guide others through death

Every big server should have at least one

Immortal until they choose to die or until they piss Kristin off

Angels of Life

Serve Life

Are born as angels

Honestly no one really knows what thay do besides protecting life (???)

Gifted

This is a mix of many, not really related beings.

Time Keepers

People who have some powers that are related to Time. It can be stopping time, turning it back, traveling through it, speeding it up, seeing the future and so on. They are born with this power, and it’s passed down by genes. It will never disappear from one blood line, but the powers actually manifesting in someone is very, very rare. One thing most of them have in common, is that very few can actually control these powers.  

Blessed 

Any player can be blessed by either, The First, Celestial or God. What powers they get is really just up to the deity. Can be immortality, more cool magic/powers or whatever. 

Sensibil

Someone who is sensible to magic. Can easily feel others magic, cam recognize a person by it, they emotion. If train, they can even use it.

Players

Last but not least, players. They are just the normal guys, the most common. If they have any powers or abilities, it’s due to them being a hybrid.

Castiel's relationships with the archangels fascinates me. Like, they are supposed to be the ultimate, most powerful angels of heaven, but (with the general exception of Michael, only because he is absent for most of the show), they all interact with him on an almost equal level.

Like, here is this tiny, little (badass) Seraph who is being treated like the adorable little brother by Gabriel, with a significant familiarity not seen amongst the other angesl.

Here is this tiny, little (badass) Seraph who is waging a war, face to face with Raphael, who generally treats him almost as an equal opponent. At the very least, he treats him as someone not so easily swept away or defeated.

Here is this tiny, little (badass) Seraph who bickers and takes no shit from Lucifer, and even though Lucifer can (and has) destroyed him with a snap of his fingers, he doesn't back down from him at any point.

This little Seraph just gives no f*cks about the fact that these angels are older or stronger than him. He just barrels ahead however he sees fit, and generally kicks some major ass.

Even later when he finally has the opportunity to interact with Michael, he basically tells him "I never liked you, you always thought you were too good for everyone else". Like, this is the pinnacle angel of heaven. And Cas is like, ::shrugs:: "in the words of Dean Winchester, you're a dick. Come at me".

In conclusion. Castiel is the most badass angel in heaven.
