WASHINGTON/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Facebook Inc said Russian agents created 129 events on the social media network during the 2016 U.S. election campaign, according to testimony to Congress, shedding more light on Russia’s purported disinformation drive aimed at voters.

Facebook, in a written statement to U.S. lawmakers released on Thursday and dated Jan. 8, said that 338,300 different Facebook accounts viewed the events and that 62,500 marked that they would attend. The company said it did not have data about which of the events took place.

Facebook, the world’s largest social media network, said in September only that Russians had created “several promoted events.”

Copies of the event pages that have surfaced since then show that at least some of them were political rallies centered on divisive subjects, such as immigration. Russia denies the conclusions of U.S. intelligence agencies that it tried to meddle in American democracy.

Facebook delivered the details to Congress this month in response to written questions from the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee.

Facebook said that it had found “overlap” between the online marketing done in 2016 by Russian agents and by President Donald Trump’s campaign and called it “insignificant.” The company said it was not in a position to either substantiate or disprove allegations of collusion between the two camps.

Trump denies any collusion and has described investigations by congressional panels and a special counsel as a witch hunt.

Facebook has previously said some 126 million Americans may have seen Russian-backed political content on Facebook over a two-year period, and that 16 million may have been exposed to Russian information on Instagram.

Facebook, Twitter Inc and Alphabet Inc’s Google testified about misuse of their services before three congressional committees in October and November.

Also in its written response to follow up questions, Facebook said that last year it removed Moscow-based Kaspersky Lab from its list of free anti-virus offerings to users who go to the social media site from a computer that may be infected with malicious code.

Facebook said it no longer provided Kaspersky Lab as a recommended anti-virus option but that it was “unable to easily reconstruct how many Facebook users downloaded Kaspersky software.”

Kaspersky Lab has repeatedly denied allegations by U.S. security officials that its software could enable Russian espionage, a fear that led to the U.S. government last year to ban the use of its products in federal computer networks.

A Kaspersky spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the testimony.

Facebook said it was also in the process of “phasing out internal use of a different Kaspersky antivirus product” that does not transmit data back to Kaspersky Lab. It did not name the product.

In separate written responses, Google said Kaspersky Lab had not been approved for use in its corporate systems and that a review had not found any installation of its products. Twitter also said it did not use Kaspersky Lab.

Facebook also said it would take “significant steps” in the coming weeks to notify users of an online tool it released last month that allows them to check whether they have followed or liked Facebook pages or Instagram accounts associated with the Internet Research Agency, a suspected Russian troll farm.

Type of Network and Design

To meet the technology we have today, it is crucial to gain the necessary network infrastructure to create an enterprise scale, dynamically scalable, and secure system. Network infrastructure for this company would need to cover over 350 employees with networking devices such as router, firewall, switch, server, printer, access points, and guest devices. There would be a need for a large-scale network with the right devices to consider.

For the Wide Area Network (WAN) connection, for better redundancy, I suggest having two network carrier which is ATT, which would be ATT business and Comcast business circuits. We would have a static IP from ATT and Comcast a total of eight. There download, and upload speed for these circuits would have 100Mbps upload, and 100Mpbs download network fiber circuit speed from both carriers. The ATT network circuit would be used as a backup line, and the Comcast circuit would be used as a primary network circuit. We would only allow remote users to access the corporate network securely through the backup line of the network. Users would be able to access the company file directory through an entirely separate Global IP Address from the primary IP Address to prevent unwanted intruders to gain access.

Client Network Devices

The client devices specification would need to satisfy some resources programs and application would use. Users would most importantly use email and file share for the majority of their operation. For desktop users, the Dell OptiPlex 3050 Small form factor would be recommended. The desktop would come with the power cable, keyboard, and mouse. Users would not not need too many resources since they would need to run simple applications such as web browser and windows explorer for network file share. The desktop computer has Intel® Core i3-7100 (DC/3MB/4T/3.9GHz/65W) and 4GB (1x4GB) 2400MHz DDR4 Memory, with the 3.5 inch 500GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive. The computer would be having a 3 Years ProSupport with Next Business Day Onsite Service for all desktop computer. Desktop users would only use an RJ45 Ethernet port to connect to the internet. We would have the users to use the LED-backlit LCD 24 inch Dell E2417H model monitor, with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The display cable that the monitor would be connecting to the desktop would be Display cable. The display cable would come with the cable along with the power cable.

There would be a need for a portable and lightweight solution for users that comes and goes outside of the company. Laptop users would be users that would go out for sales or out of the office occasionally. We recommend the Dell Inspiron 5000 Series laptop computer for these users. The laptop would be equipped with 8GB of RAM with Intel Core i5 CPU. Lightweight, robust, and optimal laptop. These laptops would not have an RJ-45 network port on the laptop. The laptop users would be using the wireless NIC built in the laptop to connect to the network.

For this new network infrastructure, there would be a couple of servers that would be necessary to create this system. First would be file servers. There should be one file server for users and one file server to store logs and backup for fault tolerance. There would also be a need for a domain controller for our network environment. For redundancy, there would be a need for two servers used for the primary and secondary domain controller. It the two servers would be replicating instantly and securely authenticate users. We recommend having a total of servers.

One for a file server and one for a domain controller for this office. We would be selecting the Dell PowerEdge R430 Rack Server for with 32GB DDR4 DIMM, 128GB SSD, three 1TB SAS HDD for each, and Intel® Xeon® processor with two processor socket. We would need one hundred seventy-five desktop computer and another one hundred seventy-five laptop computer to serve users. Also, we would need four servers to have as a server.

Firewall

For the firewall for this network infrastructure would be the key for security and routing of the network architecture. There would be a need to have high reliability for this device, and a good solution would be configuring a high availability for two firewalls. The firewall that has been configured for high availability active standby would allow the network device create a cluster that automatically detects a fault on the other firewall and enable its interface. For the firewall, I would be recommending the FortiGate 200D. We would have a WAN interface connection from two separate internet carrier, which we would be load balancing and route accordingly. If one network circuit goes offline, the firewall will route network to the backup circuit which would be the ATT circuit. Another important role that the firewall would be playing in this network infrastructure is that the network firewall would be used for securing accessing the file system and company resource through a technology called the IPSec VPN tunnel. A virtual private network, or VPN, provides a solution in which, it supports the creation of virtual links that join far-flung nodes via the Internet which is by creating a logical encrypted tunnel between the nodes to pass traffic. (Doral, 2014) Users that would have to connect the company resource would be using a VPN client agent called the Forti Client, installed on the user’s computer, to load a VPN profile with all the correct parameters and the preshared key to access the network.

The security for the SSID would be using WPA2 Enterprise, which would be authenticated with the RADIUS server in the local network. Conclusion

“Good value” is a term that gets thrown around a lot. To some people it’s a euphemism for “cheap”. Real value, however, comes from something that isn’t necessarily cheap but is good for the price. The SAHARA GAMING R20 is not the cheapest tenkeyless mechanical keyboard to come with RGB backlighting, but in this review we’re looking to find out if it’s still good value.

There is an odd thing that we need to highlight. In a way, this keyboard has already been reviewed once here at Play3r. Back in 2018 Jake took a look at the Drevo Tyrfing V2, and they appear to be exactly the same design. We do have Brown switches this time, but otherwise the difference seems to be the logo on the spacebar. With that said, we’re all still stuck at home and can’t compare the two directly. Regardless, we’re here to assess how good it is – not how original it is.

Unboxing

The packaging is minimal but sufficient.  A simple cardboard box and recyclable plastic sleeve provide adequate protection without taking too much space. We love to see this – nothing wasted and no landfill.

Sahara include a small booklet with operating instructions in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Japanese.

The manual covers prebaked RGB effects, shortcut keys, and even the ability to record macros without software.

Visual Inspection

Visually, this is a good-looking keyboard. The body is made from a solid plastic topped with black brushed aluminium, and the LEDs are very bright with distinct colours. The double shot moulded keycaps provided with the UK version illuminate very nicely. A braided cable completes the look.

Moving to the underside, we see the first set of design features that I really like. Most keyboards have just one set of rubber feet, meaning that in the raised position they’re being pushed at a slight angle. This makes them less grippy, and more likely to peel off over time. Sahara have gone the extra mile with two sets of rubber feet at the front – one for the flat position, and one at a slight angle for when the keyboard is raised. On top of this, they’ve also given the legs grippy rubber ends. This shows a real attention to detail.

A second thing I want to gush over is the cable. A channel in the base allows positioning of the cable in the centre or either side, for better management. There’s also a little panel screwed into the base and, well, I couldn’t help myself.

Behind this little panel, there’s a piece of solid plastic attached to the USB cable. This provides strain relief – if the cable is pulled, this part pushes into the cover. The connection to the keyboard itself is protected.

Use

In use, the keyboard feels great. I’m a very heavy and quite imprecise typist, with big fingers. Despite this, I make very few typos on this keyboard. The keys are well separated, and the fairly long travel no doubt saves me as well. The compact tenkeyless design allows plenty of desk space, and personally I like how high the legs lift the back of the board.

There aren’t dedicated indicators for caps lock, scroll lock and the windows key lock. However, the individual LEDs for these keys change to white when the relevant functions are active. Another piece of thoughtful design is that when the FN key is pressed, keys it can work with also light up in white.

SAHARA GAMING R20 Keyboard Software

The Customize screen allows key reassignment. Keys can be set to mimic other keys, shortcuts, keyboard/mouse functions and macros. You can even set the keys to launch programs or websites. The interface is intuitive – there’s a picture of the keyboard, and you click a key to select it. A new assignment is then selected from the dropdown menu.

The Macros screen allows recording and editing of macros. You can control delay, and also import and export macros. These can then be assigned to any key via the Customize screen.

The lighting screen allows various effects to be selected, or a custom backlight to be designed. Colour can be defined individually per key, from the traditional 16.8 million. Hex codes are supported, in addition to an effective colour picker. You can select multiple keys at once by holding CTRL while you click, speeding up the process of defining an entire keyboard’s worth of backlight. There are also templates from a variety of popular games.

Some cheap “RGB” products can only select from a few colours, or prebaked effects if you’re lucky. It’s great to see full customisation here.

We should mention that since Sahara are still pretty small, the software is unfamiliar to some antivirus programs. The system I’m testing with uses Avast, and the automatic sandboxing caused an error message launching the installer. We still got it installed no problem without disabling the AV – you just need to be patient. We can’t blame Sahara for this, but it’s worth mentioning for anyone who runs into the same issue.

Overall, all the major functions are not just present but working well, with an intuitive and user-friendly design.

We said at the start of this review that real value comes from something that is good for the price, rather that just cheap. This keyboard is very, very good. Every aspect of the design is well-thought-out. There’s a definite premium feel, and very little lacking.
