The AO3 Demographics Survey 2024 was an unofficial demographics survey of 16,131 AO3 users conducted in January 2024. We have just finished posting our initial results, so here is just a taste of the graphs and data you can check out now over on AO3!

I went on a HUGE wiki archival spree for the past 10 hours and I found two of my personal holy grail "lost flag media posts" and I feel like I just have to share these because IM SO EXCITED !!

Here are the original posts for these flags! The first one and the second one.

To my surprise these are NOT transfem / transmasc general flags. These are actually Trans girl / Trans guy flags! Both were made by the same anonymous user and submitted to pride-flags-for-us / pride-flags on the same date ( you can see this via Wayback Machine )

The meanings are also pretty close to what everyone assumed they were, with the outerstripe referencing assignment / assumption at birth and the inside stripes representing true identity. it's pretty cool to know their anniversary / birthday though! ( April 23rd, 2015 )

im gon keep yapping about the sound design for the magnus protocol because its driving me insane

the difference between the two podcasts is so drastic its FRIGHTENING

The Magnus Archives intro/outro: high-pitched, screeching, eerie, dies off with what sounds like a stone tumbling into the depths and lights turning on/off, water, sounds like the darkness of a cave that you must descend into even though you're terrified, but you do it anyway

The Magnus Protocol intro/outro: LOUD, deep, bone-chilling/shaking, foreboding, it sounds like darkness in a different way, like the great throat of some unknown beast that is hundreds of times larger and older than us and will swallow us whole; it's fear that hunts us, instead of us hunting it

also, side note/addition because i realized i forgot to add WHY it freaked me out

long story short, i was around 50% deaf in my right ear until I was 12 years old (reconstructive surgery truly is something I am so grateful for) and now I'm back to a fairly normal hearing range.

The problem?

I can't hear low tones as easily.

the magnus protocol is heavily reliant on lower tones, so what I hear is likely not how most people hear it, but for me it sputters, almost, parts of it are kind of missing, and I know I'm not hearing it right, which freaks me the fuck out.

in isolation I think it's fine as a writing move for sasha and melanie to misattribute people weird to them at their Spooky Jobs as being because of misogyny, that is a reasonable conclusion for those characters to make when they are unaware of the Spooky Reasons that people don't want them involved, but alas it leads to this weird thing I see sometimes where fans get boiling mad at these characters and start saying "this stupid bitch thinks she's experiencing discrimination in the workplace when akshually she's being iced out for completely logical reasons due to her lack of skills, something she might realize if she weren't so self-centered with such a massive victim complex." like guys. you don't actually need to say this.
