Hi Raven! I've been playing TWST for a short time now... I love the game, but I've noticed that the Great 7 aren't actually called by their names?Apart from the Queen of Hearts, because that's her title and I doubt Disney would put something like "The cardiovascular ruler" or something 💀 Everyone else isn't named by their NAME, Ursula is the benevolent sea-witch, Jafar is the sultan of the sands etc.... And as far as I know, in Cater's platinum Jacket vignette he doesn't call Alice "Alice", but the girl who drowned herself in her tears, the girl who yada yada, do you see what I mean? Do they actually have names in Twisted Wonderland or are they just called by a title bc I'm going CRAZY 😭

Two things: 1) LMAO not Cardiovascular Ruler 😭 and 2) quick correction; Jafar is the Sorcerer of the Sands, not the Sultan of the Sands.

As you’ve said, with exceptions of characters like the Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit (where the name IS the title), the Great Seven are NEVER called by their actual names. This extends to all other Disney characters spoke of in the Twst canon.

Several characters are mentioned in the boys’ Platinum Jacket vignettes (as that line features paintings of Disney characters and the boys commenting on them), and, when discussing the history of their world, the characters will refer to the Disney ones in vague terms rather than use their actual names. For example, Ariel is called the “mermaid princess”, Geppetto is an “old toymaker”, Frollo is the “Righteous Judge”, Honest John and Gideon are the “Friendly Fox and Gentle Cat”, etc.

Other times, the Disney characters’ stories will be referenced, but those characters will still not be named. For example, Silver talks about a girl who took her father’s place in the military (which is clearly about Mulan), and Idia talks about a hero who bravely dove into the Underworld to save his ladylove (which is about Hercules and Megara).

The only major exceptions (besides the cases where the name is the same as the title) is in Lost in the Book events, when the boys actually meet the Disney characters face-to-face. Granted, Stitch and Gantu had not been referenced outside of his Lost in the Book event, and I am mainly talking about Nightmare Before Christmas. Jack Skellington is called by his full name, as well as by his title, the Pumpkin King, within the world of the book. (The other Halloween Town residents, such as Sally and Zero, are also addressed by their names.) Outside of the book, the characters don’t use his name, as Jack is a very old and forgotten historical figure in the “real world” of Twst.

I’m not sure what the in-universe explanation for this is. Maybe the Disney characters are so revered that it’s considered rude to call them by their named? Maybe it’s been so long since the Disney characters have been around that their names have been lost to time?? Maybe that’s just… the culture of Twisted Wonderland? Maybe, on a meta level, Disney doesn’t want the names of their classic characters flaunted around so much? We haven’t got an official reason for this.
