As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

Companies using """"""""AI"""""""" chatbots in place of customer service (usually with a veneer of pretending you are actually speaking to a real person, which might not be so immediately obvious to more tech illiterate people) pisses me off so bad because they are just SO fundamentally useless. The only information it can tell you is information more efficiently communicated with a FAQ page, and information that is Wrong because current chatbot technology is, in fact, not even slightly 'intelligent' and pretty damn bad at giving accurate answers to anything but the simplest questions.
Like there's no point to it besides hoping onto the flashy artificial 'intelligence' gimmick and paying for less customer service work hours, and so many companies will not only have this feature but make their actual customer service prohibitively difficult to find (and usually involving a labyrinth of automated phone menu systems that you have to navigate correctly in order to get to a person). Makes me want to kill.
#Attempting to navigate support for Uber drivers (not as a customer but like as someone who is fucking working for the company)#is one of the most hellish experiences I have ever had#Because their easily accessible 'driver help' feature is a chatbot and their phone system probably qualifies as a form of torture#Literally you have to figure out the correct sequence of answers to get to a human by trial and error and it will hang up on you if you hit#any number of automated 'dead ends'#There was one time I didn't get paid for a really expensive delivery because the fucking app kept crashing and it's like they're under#the impression that their shitty fucking app is just Too Functional for that to be a potential problem so you have to outright lie to#the phone system to get to a human about this particular issue#Was pacing on the sidewalk for at least 45 minutes feeling the most homicidal I have ever felt in my life before I finally managed#to get to a human and then the answer was 'we can't help you' which like. That w359 post is why the only non-Hephaestus AU I've posted about was the community college employees one because working at a community college is roughly equivalent to working on a crumbling space station in terms of pressure cooker environments that bond you through trauma. Yesterday I got calls and texts that there was a tornado but the college never turned the interior alert system on. Then an hour later I was on lunch break and the water stopped working because they'd turned it off to do a test at 11:30. Then two hours after that we lost internet for 30 minutes. The facilities guy told us he personally won't drink the water but refused to elaborate.

I do love this but all that shit is automated now and it makes me SOO MAD. I don't want to press a button to hear the spiel from a person, to opt into my own torture and humiliation. Do your own dirty work, fuckers!
One time, I had a horrible day. Just a no good, rotten, piece of shit day. A bunch of fucked up shit happened, I had to run errands, I had to go to the doctors, and then I had a no-naps 24 hr shift to boot. After being awake and pissed off for more than 30 hours straight I finally got home, I was finally safe, I finally laid my head upon my pillow and closed mine weary eyes, AND MY FUCKING PHONE RANG THAT VERY INSTANT!
I had been up for 2 damn days and unable to be a fucked up bitch to anyone for any of it but the instant I heard that "we're calling about your vehicle's extended warranty." and I lost my shit. I reflexively screamed bloody fucking murder at the top of my lungs into that cursed receiver! I almost wish it was a live scammer! They would've added me to a no call list that instant with the note "hearing damage risk!" But, NO, I got the same call within hours!
I’m just thinking about how many times I’ve heard my dad on a long call with an obvious scammer and I’ll start begging him to get off the phone because I always think he’s a very easy mark and he’ll just keep going and then after a while he’ll say something like “I died 20 years ago” and hang up.
