MOTHRA Institution, The Eleven Counselors — 01, Grandpa Lenin. (In short, the SCP's O5 MOTHRA Institution edition)
"This is fucking disgusting."
HIGH PATENT FILE – MOTHRA INSTITUTION
The Eleven Counselors — 0-1 | "Grandpa Lenin"
Name: Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov
Position: Advisor 0-1 of the MOTHRA Eleven Counselors
Keycard Level: Omni Level
In ████, MOTHRA conducted Operation Daedalus, with the goal of recovering and reactivating the brain of Lenin,. The preserved body of Vladimir Lenin was secretly removed from his mausoleum in Moscow and brought to the MOTHRA Complex via Operation Notorious. Using advanced neurotechnology, MOTHRA scientists reactivated Lenin's brain through electromagnetic pulses and partial replacement of damaged tissue with synthetic neural matrices. The brain was reinserted into his preserved body, now fitted with a biomechanical life support system, with automated control and reinforced armor.
Upon awakening, Lenin was offered a position of influence inside MOTHRA Institution, and accepted it with a chilling smile. As the First Counselor of the Eleven, Lenin acts as the ideological advisor and strategic planner behind many of MOTHRA’s internal policies. Though reanimated, he retains 99% of his historical memories, alongside a sharpened political analysis engine embedded in his cortical net.
Lenin does not sleep. He spends most of his operational cycles reading, speaking to lower-level inmates about ideology, and offering cryptic counsel to the MOTHRA Directors. His "Mechanized Doctrine Speeches" are now distributed internally via encrypted institutional frequencies and analyzed for patterns of dissent or compliance among staff.
Biography: Born in Simbirsk, Russia, Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanovn, later known as Lenin, was a revolutionary theorist, political strategist, and the key architect of the Bolshevik Revolution. Following the fall of the Romanov dynasty, he established the Soviet Union and governed as its Premier until his official death in 1924. His ideologies laid the groundwork for Marxist-Leninist states worldwide and continue to echo in various revolutionary movements across the globe.
Known for his pivotal role in the Russian Revolution and subsequent establishment of the Soviet state. His life was characterized by revolutionary zeal, strategic maneuvering, and a staunch commitment to the principles of Marxism. After his death in January 1924, his body was preserved and placed on display in Moscow's Red Square, becoming a symbol of communist ideology.
Description: Maintained in a stasis-compatible cryo-embalming compound. The organic tissue, though visibly aged, is functionally augmented with biomechanical enhancements. These include an internal circulatory simulacrum, reinforced skeletal supports, and an exoskeletal spinal brace to sustain cranial interface operations.
Lenin is primarily wheelchair-bound, though not fully incapacitated. His custom-engineered wheelchair is equipped with multi-directional treads, electromagnetic stabilizers, and a shock-dampening seat frame designed for institutional navigation. Despite his limited ambulatory capacity, the wheelchair grants full-range movement and limited vertical ascension for elevated platforms or defensive posturing.
Lenin’s facial skin remains preserved, maintained through periodic dermal rehydration injections. His expressions carry a permanent semblance of stoic scrutiny. Optical implants allow for detailed retinal analysis of nearby individuals and environmental stimuli. His eyes, while retaining their historical blue-gray hue, display subtle red glints from the internal data-processing HUD overlays.
Speech is conducted via a vocal modulation apparatus embedded in his throat. The system reconstructs speech from neural impulses, emitting a low, mechanical tone that echoes through synthetic vocal cords. Though it mimics his original Russian inflection, the delivery lacks emotional cadence, resulting in an effect both unnerving and authoritative.
Lenin is never seen without his trusted weapon: a customized Winchester shotgun, dubbed "Red Dawn." The firearm is tactically modified, loaded with silver-cobalt shells and affixed to his wheelchair’s right armrest by a hydraulic auto-holster. The weapon is biometrically locked, but responds to Lenin’s vocal commands or neural trigger sequences, allowing immediate access in high-threat situations. Despite his apparent fragility, his reflexive command over the shotgun makes him lethally efficient in close-range confrontations.
Lenin's cognitive faculties have shown remarkable retention and adaptation to manipulate other technologies in contact. Extensive psychological evaluations indicate an ability to strategize and articulate complex political concepts. The integration of modern data processing capabilities enhances his comprehension of current events and historical contexts.
Final Notes: Recent evaluations indicate mixed results in terms of Lenin’s psychological adaptation. While he retains sharp memory, there are indications of frustration stemming from his pre-existing philosophies not aligning with modern socio-political landscapes. Observations have noted moments of reflective silence wherein he seems to grapple with the implications of his past decisions contrasted with present realities.
Regular psychological evaluations to monitor adaptation. Establish a mentoring program connecting him with burgeoning leaders to foster understanding and respect towards historical nuance.

The Black Market
Space is big. I mean... really big. Like even bigger than a really big rock.
And boring.
But sometimes you get an encounter...
Boring is the worst part.
You can go into space and there's all sorts of cool stuff like the microgravity, the amazing view... and after a while it's just dark and the computer goes 'Boop' every quarter time unit, and this amazing experience collapses into the same space as e.g., being in a nursing home until someone tells you that you've arrived, and you can go look at cool stuff again.
Hence Interstellar Cruise Liners.
Space travel is still not cheap - even a run up and down a space elevator needs paying for, so you want to take as much cargo and paying passengers as possible.
With automated shipyards, you can just pour money and resources into building a truly huge passenger module, stack it on top of some cargo modules and clamp on as many drive units and crew modules as you need.
Load everyone in, let them ooh and ahhh at the view for a day then spin up a gateway and fire the whole thing into superluminal space and drop it out around any world you have a beacon for.
The really great thing is even if you lose the beacon in transit, you are a beacon. Just drop out and wait. Anything goes wrong, the home office can send a rescue ship after you.
In the meantime, there's the ship's amenities: The lush mossy jungle deck, the galactic beach, the games rooms, the dining groves, the on-board university - Even the theatre for live and recorded entertainment.
Still passengers like to have an experience, and so the Sunward Sail out of Ggxcha with seven hundred passengers dropped out of Superluminal space, the bow wave of exotic particles heating the backstop up to a glowing red.
The Sunward Sail dropped into a lazy orbit around an ancient planet, orbited by a big station trailing glittering wreckage - Obviously something dramatic had gone down here.
The lights were on though - So not a derelict station - and the docking was smooth, so the first set of tourists stepped onto the station, onto the Market deck.
So much to see! So much to do!
Madam Shi-shi's bakery run by a happy Tsin selling classic Tsin pastries, and exotic purple rolls with various filling and other goods.
The Top n' Charmed Quarks Bar with the scarred Atrix obviously a veteran of some war or calamity, serving exotic and colourful drinks:
"Dare you try the Human Menu?" she suggests, pulling it out. "Watch out, the Temple of Shir-li is banned in twelve systems..."
They even have a chance wheel!
Then there's Honest Gar's Genuine Human Antiquities, the wares spilling out from the shop in a riot of colours and patinas, where one can buy a genuine antique reproduction Victorian Empire TV, or a genuine Human Made Brown's Kitchen Imp that can tell you how to make a thousand and five human style recipes with a little sheet glass projection hologram of a human in glasses and red horns. So quaint!
And if you get to the end of the market, or one of the traders tips you off, you can find...
The Black Market
There's someone there, a weathered old... unless they were young... spacer, in a patched and scuffed EVA undersuit with 43 on the chest, who'll spin you unbelievable tales for a couple of creds dropped into the old cracked space helmet he keeps on the table next to him and if you ask, he'll let you in -
The back rooms are dark, rowdy, and full of the coolest stuff. There are lots of humans here, and there's an Atrix little guy, with a set of goggles, riding low on the belly of this Atrix Mech.
If you're lucky you can see one of the humans with some grudge square off agianst the little guy. He's surrounded by switches and levers, with a little pair of waldos.
The mech lurches to life, an angry display on its faceplace, growling in a rattling synthetic voice:
Combat mode! Engaged! Polaron Claws. Charging.
It's claws glowing white hot as it swings into motion, and the Human pulls a little cobbled together blaster out and takes a pot shot. The Mech lurches and sparks, warning lights flashing ominously...
Reactor. Overheat. Reactor. Overheat. Emergency. Venting.
The stricken mecha whirls, the little guy screaming in rage and flipping clunky archaic controls... And then when everything seems to be about to go wrong, the mech begins to spray clouds of vapour from it's vents and the alerts wind down, while the scurrilous human takes the opportunity to flee.
It's very dramatic.
And after that you can buy a souvenir arm patch of Cat Fantastic's Mecha with glow in the dark Polaron claws, before it's time to head back - Don't forget to pick up a packed lunch from Madame Shi-Shi's!
--
"Ugh." said Dave, "I don't mind the tourist run but it ruins my appetite" she muttered.
"You shouldn't snack on your own stock." says Big Ma, touching up Gondy's makeup.
Phalanges, helmet off, chin up and enjoying the cool air blower form the converted life support rig that they'd modded into the mecha grunts noncommittally.
"How are we doing boss?" Raxy asks, potting up souvenir Tsin fungus with Atrix moss and human basil.
O'Patel flashes an OK hand sign. "We are... hitting the funding goals. One more shift - This time it's for the bonus pay." he says with satisfaction and Big Ma looks around, checking everyone's ready as someone helps Cat Fantastic back into his cockpit basket and Gondy makes sure there's enough grenadine left.
"OK people... Showtime!"

More updates on the factory!
First, a weird problem I was having: Attacks from the rear. Allow me to diagram how I expected things to go with my iron outpost.
("Rockup" is the stone brick pick-up station for that stone outpost I mentioned needing to build.)
Here's how it actually went.
Experienced Factorio players can probably guess where this is going, but I didn't see it coming.
It turns out, Problems will just path to whatever machines caused the pollution they're reacting to, instead of attacking whatever miners or pumpjacks they come across. If I'd figured that out before covering the backside of the iron outpost with turrets, I could have just fortified that path Problems would need to take, which would have been a more elegant solution. But I had other problems.
First, power outages. Second, plastic shortages. Third, copper smelting. Fourth, grenades (for military science). What do all of these have in common? Coal.
Part of the problem is, unsurprisingly, power. The power outages came shortly after I expanded power production, ironically enough. And since I did so in a slightly spaghetti-ish manner...might as well share.
Anyways, the coal outpost is simple. Miners, laser turrets, a few gun turrets I slapped down in case biters came before I plugged in the laser turrets, train station. The interesting bit there is that I ran out of rails before I could finish the train.
I had some semi-automated rail production at the old stone mine; I had to feed it steel and iron manually, but it handled the rest while I wandered around doing other stuff. That was fine for a while, but I'll need to automate rails soon for purple science anyway, so I might as well set up a proper solution. Especially since stone and iron products are so far from each other.
I was going to set up a train car to deliver iron and steel to the stone outpost, when I noticed something.
There's iron on-site. And an advantage of using this iron ore instead of shipping in metal is that I can put aside some iron ore and stone to make concrete! Of course, for the actual rails I'll need to smelt a lot of that iron ore into iron (and most of that iron into steel), and concrete needs water, and this is quickly turning into a big project that will bring me even closer to biter territory...
...but before I think of setting up a decent defensive perimeter of some kind, I need to remind myself why I'm doing this. I need to make rails, so that I can connect the coal to the main base, which has barely enough coal to maintain its power supply but not enough for production.
I don't need to set up a big defensive line to protect a multi-product outpost to support large-scale rail production. Right now, what I need is enough rails to fix the coal supply, and feeding a temporary assembler array with all the steel in my inventory and half the iron makes more than enough.
Though feeding it all my steel and not returning to the main base to resupply has consequences. Like not being able to put chests in the coal loading station.
The inserters are doing fine for now, I guess. I can fill in the chests once I've finished the dropoff station.
To the left is the preexisting coal dropoff system, to the right is iron. In the middle is the old copper patch, still supplying the base with more copper than it needs. Certainly more than it could smelt!
With these basic resources, plus oil and bricks (not displayed), the base has everything it needs to produce the first four tiers of science pack. And while I'm sure I could bolt the last three into the spaghetti somewhere, this spaghetti was supposed to be a starter base.
And blue science unlocks most of the basic production stuff. There's still Kovarex enrichment and better modules and weapons and power armor and numerical bonuses and space, but for the core factory-designing stuff? I've got it all.
So I guess I need to start designing a real base.

The Matrix 12 story, in all its glory
Arturia models it, to a tee
Unleash your creativity: the sky’s the limit!
The Matrix 12 story, in all its glory
The 1980s were an important – and interesting – decade in the synth world. Polyphony was becoming de rigueur and digital synthesis was gaining a foothold with the Yamaha DX-7 and various digital samplers, while stripped-down synths like the Juno 106 and Korg Poly 6 were making synthesis available to the masses. The stage was set for Tom Oberheim – who had been designing some of the best-sounding synths for over a decade – to introduce a no-holds-barred analog synth. And so the Oberheim Matrix 12 was unleashed upon the world in 1985. It was, indeed, an all-out assault on the state of the art, with glorious sonics and tantalizing modulation possibilities, but its near-five-grand price tag put it out of reach for all but a few fortunate souls. Around 1000 units were produced, many of which are still making music to this day.
Arturia models it, to a tee
When it comes to modeling vintage analog synths, many of us immediately think of Arturia – and with good reason. Their proprietary True Analog Emulation technology (TAE) is truly amazing, and is no doubt a critical component in some of the finest virtual synths we’ve heard. For the Matrix 12 V, Arturia modeled not only the tonal aspects of the original two oscillators and their waveforms, but the 15 filter modes as well. They knew that the Matrix 12’s famously rich, complex sound was forged by its multiple filter modes and by the numerous modulation sources and destinations on tap. With nearly endless modulation-routing possibilities, you can sculpt wonderfully organic sounds not possible with other synthesizers.
Unleash your creativity: the sky’s the limit!
The Matrix-12 V is, just like its hardware predecessor, a multitimbral instrument. In Multi mode, each of the 12 notes can voice a different sound. These sounds can then be split on different zones of your keyboard, transposed individually, played unison – you get the idea! And Matrix 12 V’s elegant software interface makes configuring all this a cinch. While the original Matrix 12 was an amazing synthesis achievement, Arturia upped the ante by adding a new effects chain for additional sound processing. They also doubled the allowable number of modulations from 20 to 40, giving you even more creative options. Factor in the ability to control all of Matrix 12 V’s parameters via MIDI, letting you perform automation in your DAW, and you’ve got a total beast of a soft synth.
Arturia Matrix 12 V Virtual Synth Plug-in Features:

#life#penis mention#transhumanism#(ish)#swearing#it want to make a discordant thrumming noise and emit wispy clouds of dry ice vapour when i deploy it for absolutely no practical reason
Sadly, the NBM-M or -I modules don't emit thrumming noises or emite dry ice vapor, but they do emit lube...
Let's tweak the ol' gateway content filters for a moment...
[Accessing WorldNet interlinks... access DENI*YUG&I^RTG Granted.]
Ah, yes. here we are:
From the design notes on the Terran MK1 / V1 Synth chassis "Naughty Bits Module" section:
"signal and power interconnects shall use type 38999 RAMLOCK(tm) connectors (TVRAM-06RK-15-ATXN-STZ1) with automation lock/unlock additions and secondary fluid interconnects."
(hand written under the above spec:) "Yes, I know IOREP has never heard of Amphenol- I'm not supposed to be 'borrowing' spare parts off the tigearean embassy again." (Additional scrawling in a different hand) "really, the connector name is RAMLOCK? Who let their teenage son name that?"
"mechanical locking bolts SHALL be torqued to 6 newton-meters (5 ft.lbs) minimum. 12 N.m - remember the last time in the Listening room?!?!?" (replacement text handwritten)
"Before placing surrounding skin modules back on, verify that all 8 interlocks on NBM are showing GREEN on both grapple lock pawls and within MCP status/control display."
Detachable junk sounds good in theory, but I can't help but feel that the plug-and-play approach is just asking for trouble. Forget about USB compatibility – I want something mounted on a threaded rod that I have to spend several minutes turning into place, and it makes an obtrusive squeaka-squeaka-squeaka noise the whole time because I'm a dumbass and forgot to lubricate it. I want something that needs to be seated and secured like the parallel data cable from a 1950s computer. I want something where removing it requires disengaging a series of four interlocking mechanical toggles, and I want each of those toggles to go ka-chunk.
