Hello. 4 - Movie of the Year

I didn't get to watch a lot of movies this year.

My favourite 2024 movie would be Chamkila. It is about a Punjabi Singer who was assassinated with his wife, by puritans who didn't like the kind of songs he sang. Deals with the caste dynamics of the state well. Also a return to form for Imtiaz Ali, who had been shitting the bed for the last 10 years.

Favourite movie not released in 2024 would be Perfect Blue. It was so insane. Just fucking insane.

7 - Actor of the Year

This is more of a this year thing, so I would say Ayo Edebiri. While I didn't like Season 3 of The Bear as much as the first two seasons, I still think she was flawless in every scene.

14 - Favourite Book I read this year

So, I had a bet with my friend that I would read 28 books this year. Because last year I went to the Dariyaganj Market in Delhi and bought like 15 books. And I started off the year strong. Read 5 books by February. But as the Semester picked up pace, I couldn't keep it going and ended up reading just one more book for the rest of the year😭😭. I kind of have an urge to read rom-coms to stat-pad but I am interning right now and don't have the time.

My favourite would be The Saffron Tide by Kingshuk Nag. It traces the rise in popularity, and electoral history of our beloved Fasicst Supreme Leader's party. It is very detailed, and goes state-by-state to explain how the BJP slowly established itself in the most populous states of the country. It doesn't delve into the North Eastern states, and is very brief when it comes to the Southern states, but that was not unexpected. Still, it was very informative.

I read the Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds, and while I did enjoy it, I found the ending a bit rushed, so yeah.
