Hello! I just saw your latest post and you might have been referring to my ask if it was the one about Ratiorine's differing philosophies or of what philosophies they abide by (existentialism, absurdism, etc) then that's me! If you weren't referring to that I apologize for the confusion. Sending it off anon this time so maybe it doesn't disappear 🥲
Sorry for the ask disappearing the first time; I'm not sure what happened, and I was so sad because I had been carefully holding on to it to answer it! I'm glad you were able to resend.
I do have to say first that philosophy is not my area of expertise, so there may be much more qualified philosophy buffs out there who can answer this more accurately than me, but I'll give it a go with my personal understandings of the characters:
First, Ratio is the easier of the two I think. As many people have said, he's a good fit for existentialism. His entire shtick is basically believing in the power of the individual to improve and enrich their own life, to fight valiantly regardless of the hardships imposed by their life's circumstances, and to make themself into a better person by their own choices.
It's important to underscore that this means Ratio believes in self-determination, in the idea that people's lives are not foreordained but are actually actively shaped each day by personal decisions. Therefore, people have inherent freedom to decide the course of their own lives by accepting what they approve of, refusing to accept what they disapprove of, and harnessing their own individual power to ultimately achieve self-actualization.
Essentially, Ratio works under the impression that life is not guided by something as intangible as destiny, and no matter where you start off in life, what ultimately happens to you is within your control (or at least within the control of whoever controls you). This is likely a small part of why it grates on him so badly that he wasn't recognized by Nous, because the fact that one can dedicate everything to a goal and still not achieve that goal runs contrary to his central philosophy.
If he believes that people have the power to determine the course of their own lives, then what does it say about him, who fought so hard to do exactly as he claims even idiots can do--seize control his own fate--and yet didn't succeed? Are there some things outside of man's power? It's enough to make even a renowned doctor question himself, and Ratio decided to come out on the side of "It's a personal failing, not a flaw in my philosophy." He literally said "Skill issue" to himself.
Changing tack a tiny bit here, I think it's also important to emphasize that there is a difference between existentialism and nihilism even though these philosophies dovetail. Again, I'm not an expert in philosophy, so my understanding is very limited, but the basic idea of existentialism is that "existence comes before essence"--that is, things start as a blank slate and gain nature and meaning after the fact. We are not created by some grand design, nor is there any inherent "purpose for living." Things just exist because they exist.
This is where existentialism intersects with nihilism, at the starting point that existence is inherently meaningless. But, in my personal opinion, nihilism as a philosophy fails to move beyond that. Pure nihilism is ultimately self-defeating because it leaves us with no motivation to commit to growth. It's a philosophy antithetical to the continuation of life as we know it. Existence is meaningless and any meaning you personally derive from existence is also meaningless, so why bother attempting to derive any meaning at all? This complete apathy is the Device IX that Star Rail paints as so dangerous.
And Ratio is not this way at all. His philosophy absolutely reaffirms that life can have meaning, so long as people create that meaning for themselves. He simultaneously asserts that anything that people create is not meaningless ...which basically means that meaning itself cannot be meaningless. (If that makes any sense to anyone.)
Frankly, I would argue that this philosophy may be a core part of why Ratio has not been recognized by Nous so far, rather than simply his "being a good person." (Nous is a robotic AI super-computer, why would THEY care about the presence or lack of human empathy?) Ultimately, Ratio's central philosophy about people being capable of determining their own fates and purposes also applies to his understanding of knowledge--knowledge is not something which is inherent in certain beings from birth or limited to the purview of the "special" (geniuses), but is attainable by all people. People are not "born talented" or "born untalented," they are simply "educated" or "uneducated," with the only barrier between these categories being one's own personal willingness to change. The mundane can become the divine--if they work hard enough at it.
Thus, knowledge is not wealth to be hoarded, but a currency to be spent to enrich other members of humanity.
(By the way, completely random aside--it also surprises me that everyone relates Ratio to Alhaitham from Genshin when they literally have such a glaring fundamental discrepancy in their understanding of the concept of wisdom... But anyway, back on topic!)
Ratio may (sort of) respect the members of the Genius Society, may recognize their incredible knowledge and abilities, but at the heart of the matter lies a single all-important question: Does Ratio even really believe in "genius" as a distinction (other than as a concept to insult himself)? Does he truly believe there is barrier between brilliance and idiocy that "ordinary people" can never cross?
He speaks convincingly about geniuses being different from "the ordinary," but if his core belief is that people have the power to pull themselves up out of despair and achieve greatness through effort and self-development, rather than some form of luck or god-given talent at birth, then... do born "geniuses" even really exist? Is there really an insurmountable difference between brilliant and mundane?
If knowledge is the equalizer of all sentient beings, do we not all have at least the initial capacity to become geniuses?
I personally think this central distinction about the capacity for knowledge among all humanity is the actual deciding factor in Ratio's rejection from the Genius Society, because, at the end of the day... how do you become a member of the "Genius Society" when you fundamentally reject the distinction of "genius" as an exclusive category from the start?
Ratio wants to share knowledge and uplift everyone (even if he thinks most people are starting off at the rock bottom known as idiocy).
His mission is diametrically opposed to the concept of a "Genius Society" in the first place.
He wanted in to the cool kids club because he desperately craves validation and acceptance, but the philosophical values of the Genius Society are ultimately incompatible with his own. In short, he would have to cease to be "Veritas Ratio" to succeed in joining the geniuses.
Okay, okay, back to the original point again, and just one more note about Ratio: Even though existentialism also goes hand-in-hand with absurdism, I don't think Ratio is far enough down the philosophical rabbit hole to believe in the wider definition of absurdism. Although I think he does agree with the inherent meaninglessness of existence, I don't think he views existence itself as truly irrational and the universe as as manifestation of unknowable chaos. I think he'd at least like to imagine that there are some ontological principles and inherent laws governing the operations of reality, and I think he does believe that certain things can be predicted with the application of enough thought... He certainly seems to believe in some form of "objective truth," at the very least.
I think he'd at least like to believe the universe is semi-orderly, even if he might deep down admit this is also wishful thinking.
So, to me he reads as a strong metaphor for pure existentialism, with deliberate rejections to both nihilism's apathy and absurdism's lean toward solely subjective reality.
PHEW, this is already long and I still have a whole other character to talk about... I had more to say about this topic than I thought. Sorry for the long read!
Anyway... Aventurine.
I've seen all sorts of things thrown around for Aventurine's philosophy, and while I think he does inherit a bit of Acheron's absurdism by the end of 2.1, I actually don't think Aventurine is an absurdist, an existentialist, or a nihilist.
I think Aventurine is a struggling fatalist.
He doesn't like it. We see him actively question it, but ultimately, he does come back to the concept of destiny over and over.
First, I think it's important to draw a clear distinction between Ratio and Aventurine: Ratio's existentialism is a philosophy that technically works even in a theological vacuum. Nous doesn't have to exist for Ratio's philosophy to function. Ratio's belief in the self-determination of humanity is, in fact, somewhat opposed to belief in aeons in the first place, and only works because technically the aeons of Star Rail used to be human (or were originally human creations). It's essentially an atheist viewpoint.
But Aventurine is a religious character. Like, he's just... religious. That's a fact about him. Even though we do hear his doubts, at the end of the day, he actually believes in Gaiathra, and believing in a omniscient supernatural being that is not human in origin (is from outside the aeon system) comes with a whole set of philosophical foundations that most aeon-worshipping characters just don't have in Star Rail. (Sunday is the obvious exception here, by the way.)
Kakavasha's like the one practicing pagan in the middle of an atheist convention. Awkward.
Being more serious: Religion requires faith. Faith requires the ability to believe in things you cannot verify with empirical facts. To believe in things you can only feel, never see. The belief that a goddess is watching over you, blessing you, and guiding you requires you to also accept the idea that events in your life are not always in your own control--that some of what occurs to you is decided by powers beyond your comprehension.
In essence, faith requires belief in fate. And that leads to fatalism.
No matter how much he doesn't like it, no matter how much we see him struggle with it, Aventurine does actually seem to believe in the concept of fate. He believes that some events in life are destined to occur, that some things are outside of individuals' control, and that ultimately not everything can be changed.
This is the dead opposite of Ratio's mindset: No matter how hard we fight, how far we push ourselves... in the end, sometimes people fail. Sometimes the only answer to our endless struggles is that we die, as we were destined to, before ever achieving the greatness we sought or the futures we were promised.
As an aside, I don't think faith or religion are necessarily the only factors connecting Aventurine to this particular philosophy either. Even removing theological aspects from the conversation, his extreme focus on the gambling aesthetic suggests a strong connection to fatalism too--if not a goddess, then one's fate may as well be in the hands of luck itself, of the whims of the rolling dice--or the push and pull of "powers that be," those figures of authority in the room where it happens, who make their shady deals according to preset rules and expectations, every bet resulting in an ultimately predictable outcome.
(He keeps gambling and gambling, hoping that he'll get a different result than the one he knows is inevitable...)
This is, of course, an inherently pessimistic mindset, a perfect dark-mirror to Ratio's deep-down optimism. Fatalism puts humanity into a position of powerlessness. All hopes and dreams are given over to the goddess, by whose judgment and whims the actual events of one's life are decided. Pain and poverty are inevitable trials. Suffering and death are foreordained.
And yet Aventurine has to cling to this, as much as he doubts it, as much as he hates the idea that things in his life are beyond his power to control.
Because if fate doesn't exist... If it wasn't destiny, if the tragedies of his life weren't trials from the goddess, if things weren't supposed to go this way... Then every single thing in his life really is meaningless. Everything he suffered, everyone he loved and loss, his mother's and sister's sacrifices, the torment he went through--just sheer bad luck. All of it, completely and utterly meaningless.
How can you convince yourself to keep living, in the face of such supreme and all-encompassing Nihility?
This is the central struggle of Aventurine's character, the actual mental and emotional journey we see him undertaking from 2.0 to 2.1. He is literally on the precipice, swinging between a viewpoint that he hates--his fatalistic belief in destiny--and an entirely self-defeating philosophy--nihilism--whose only possible final outcome is suicide.
This is what his talk with Acheron at the end of 2.1 is all about. This is how she saves him. In that final cutscene, we witness Aventurine reach a mental compromise, managing to finally reconcile his necessary faith in the concept of destiny with the reality that life may truly begin meaningless--but beginning meaningless does not mean staying meaningless, and believing in destiny does not bar you from making your own choices or finding your own purpose in life.
Later on in Penacony's story, we literally see Acheron use Ratio's philosophy to reject the same nihility that crept into Aventurine's:
Acheron wards off nihility's apathy through an absurdism all her own, but one which manages to enclose both Ratio's and Aventurine's otherwise incompatible mindsets: We have no way of ever knowing for certain whether the events of our lives are fated or mere nonsense. We have no way of knowing if our choices are our own or foreordained. But we don't need to know this to find meaning and value in them. Whether life is nothing more than unpredictable chaos or a predetermined pattern of cause and effect, what matters is what you make of it.
Ultimately, I think that this post has really helped me recognize just how well Aventurine and Ratio work as philosophical foils.
They really are perfect opposites.
Aventurine's fatalism is deterministic, while Ratio's existentialism is self-deterministic. Aventurine's philosophy is inherently pessimistic; Ratio's is inherently optimistic. Ratio's philosophy operates on a core belief in the freedom of humanity to decide their own paths in life, while Aventurine hates but does ultimately believe that people aren't really in control, that even if no gods are guiding us, we can't rise above our own natures. Ratio's philosophy makes meaning from growth; Aventurine's makes meaning from loss...
And they both struggle with fundamental doubts in their own philosophies, core questions that are directly tied to their own lives. Aventurine worries that his faith might be misplaced, that destiny might not exist, and that everything he suffered might have been in pointless, empty vain. Ratio faces the crisis of recognizing that his core belief in the power of humankind to determine their own paths and make their own meaning might not actually apply to everyone--because it doesn't seem to apply to himself.
It's literally only by bridging this philosophical binary with Acheron's anti-Nihility absurdist rhetoric that we can reach some sort of healthy outcome. That's why it takes both Ratio's note and Acheron's comments to finally lead Aventurine to acceptance. Ratio probably needs a little bit of Aventurine's "If you didn't make it into the Genius Society, there's got to be a reason" mindset to finally reach some peace with his situation too.
I'm not even a philosophy expert and even I can see that there's really only one takeaway here: These two characters were totally written with each other in mind.
Aventurine and Ratio need each other on core metaphysical levels! 😂
It's so good guys. You can't see it, but I'm making chef's kisses, I promise.

okay, now i can complain about reddit because they're getting on my nerves lol ever since PA's lawyer's new motion they've been insufferable, they're acting like they're getting their "ha-ha gatcha" moment but they're so dumb omfg i'm gonna preface this by saying that i'm not 100% sure of luigi's innocence, because there are a lot of coincidences and there's a lot of explaining on his side to do. i'm not 100% sure of his guilt either, first of all because we owe it to him as it's his right (lol) and because most of the evidence they've shown so far is incosistent and sketchy and they've broken the law multiple times in order to gather evidence. but for some reason, reddit's detectives and lawyers have decided that his PA lawyer's motion proves he did it. i don't even want to go read their discussions all over again because they get so much on my nerves, this morning when i read their comments and i saw that they had started their theories without even taking into considerations all the possibilities. they're like: no, he's guilty and that's the end of it!! yes, there is a chance they're trying to get most of the evidence thrown out because he's guilty. but there is also a chance they're trying to get evidence thrown out because he's not guilty. they started saying that dickey trying to get the notebook thrown out proves luigi did write the manifesto. in his motion dickey doesn't talk about a "manifesto", on the contrary he has said that the PD has labeled luigi's personal writings as "manifesto" improperly and without justification. totally the opposite. and then about the dna that they got through offering luigi drinks and food at the police station, they said them trying to get that thrown away proves the dna comparison is positive and proves his guilt. i believe this could also be another way to highlight the police's unlawful actions. we must remember that they're trying so hard to push the narrative of him being guilty to the point where there's a high chance they planted evidence. his lawyers may be trying to get rid of everything they can, because they could be worried all of those things can be twisted and used to make luigi guilty when he's not. if they're so sure they got the right guy, why get his dna through tricks and not proper procedure? what did they do with the things he used to drink or eat? like, hello, are we not noticing something's fishy or are we just playing cops trying to point a finger to someone even though you support his alleged actions and want to see him walk free? it's like they're annoyed by people who believe there's a high chance he actually didn't do it, so they're trying to get their "i've been saying this from the start hehehehehe i'm so smart and you're so dumb!!1!" it's like they're forgetting that whether you think he did it or not, we should want him free and should fight to make sure he gets a FAIR TRIAL!!! and the prosecution and the police are making sure he won't get that!!! HELLO??? THEY TRIED TO GET HIS DNA BY GIVING HIM FOOD AND SODA ARE YOU READING THIS SHIT?!?!? WHY AREN'T WE TALKING ABOUT THIS???
honestly i agree with everything you said and i was very much shocked when i saw that the police had given him drinks and taken his DNA from there, my first thought was that MUST be illegal right??!! but of course not, apparently it's a "common" practice by law enforcement in the us, so much so that the commoners there don't even flinch at the thought of somebody's rights being violated this way
and something that completely astounds me about the reddit opinions is how they never want to acknowledge that media and the government are trying to shape public perception and make him look guilty even before the trial starts and they just ignore that they're a part of the public and theirs is the perception the government is trying to sway in their favour and as a part of the public they're also helping shape other public's perception and that by doing all that they're doing (including armchair diagnosing him and psychoanalysing him to the ends of the earth) him the injustice of taking away his right to a fair trial
#honestly i'm not sure what rights are violated by taking DNA that way#BUT it feels very invasive and violating to the right to privacy#also if we're going by the post about illegal DNA collection i reblogged there's a lot more to that too#law enforcement often starves people for like half a day and then gives them food and water so that they wouldn't refuse#and collects DNA samples from there which seems so so violating#i can't believe americans let this tyrannical behaviour continue right in front of their eyes without ever protesting about it#another thing i couldn't believe when i first heard this was that why would Luigi (who has studied enough bio in his lifetime) ever drink#anything like this knowing full well that saliva is a great source of DNA sampling#but then if he wasn't given anything for long hours and then given water i wouldn't blame him anyhow#and if he's actually the shooter i'm praying to everything that he didn't sip on the water bottle that was ditched with the burner phone#like NOOO Luigi you studied this stuff you know what they can do with saliva#also lol the redditors were going on about how he should have watched some their favourite highly editorialised trash true crime stuff#no that's not how most people find out saliva is used for DNA analysis (i definitely didn't)#luigi mangione#free luigi#asks

Continuing my agenda about Bruce and Jason becoming the most annoying and dramatic people after fixing their relationship, and making others roll their eyes, because, come on, we all need that. And because Bruce is as dramatic as others; he kinda technically was inspired by Zorro when becoming Batman, alright? That tells a lot.
Anyway, no thoughts, just Bruce and Jason annoying everyone with being the most melodramatic duo ever.
Jason, appearing in the Batcave out of the sudden, swaying a little: Hey Dick, worried: Hey. Are you okay? You rarely drop by like this... Jason, stopping by Bruce's armchair, dramatically slumping over: I... I came here today, because I lost my last battle... Bruce, who senses his bullshit, but plays along: Oh no, champ, what's wrong? Dick, activating mother-hen: SHOULD WE CALL ALFRED? ARE YOU- Jason, sniffling: Battle... Battle with... Loneliness. Bruce, with a short smile on his face: (theatrically puts Britney's Baby One More Time exactly on "My loneliness is killing me" line) Dick, groaning: YOU BOTH-
Jason, spawning in the middle of the day in WE, behind Bruce's back: Old man, protocol 222. Asap. You have five minutes. Bruce, standing up abruptly: Oh, okay. Bruce, with his stern father voice on: Jason, you are disowned. Jason: Fuck you!!! Tim, who was sitting in the same cabinet, watching as Jason storms off: Excuse me? Bruce: He is either watching some movie or reads a book about daddy issues, so he needs to get into a mood. Please, continue your analysis. Tim: ...What the fuck.
Duke: I was always a little curious... What was your father like? No pressure, you don't need to answer if you don't want to. Jason: Well- Bruce, popping out of nowhere: How come you don't know what kind of father I am? Duke: Oh, no, I meant Jason's biological fa- Bruce, frowning: I am his biological father. Jason, because he is no less shit: Yeah, damn, didn't want to tell others, especially to Damian, since he will freak out... But apparently Bruce had a one-night stand thing with my bio mama. It is kinda a secret. Bruce, very pleased: Yeah. It is a secret... but you can probably say that, considering how alike we look. Jason: (nods) Duke, absolutely believing this shit, because had you seen this fucking family: Oh. Ok. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. Jason, beaming: Thanks, dude. That's why you are my favourite.
#this came to me in my sleep-deprived delirium btw#I am very fixated on some post saying Wtf was Bruce actually jealous of Willis and that's why he kept truth about his death from Jason#like idk the thought of Bruce having a deadass beef with Willis who is DEAD is funny#random fact but telltale Batman actually made it canon that Bruce watched that stupid movie thousand times (his autistic special interest)#and I live for this fact.#jason todd#red hood#dcu comics#dc universe#dcu#batman#bruce wayne#batfamily#batfam#dick grayson#duke thomas#tim drake

A very big analysis on the new Welcome Home update
HELLLOOOOO EVERYONEEEE I havent done one of these in a while, but omg the newest update was everything I ever hoped for and more!! So today, we'll be talking about EVERYTHING (+ lil theories here and there)
BIG BIG SPOILERS AHEAD
Julie Joyful, Insecurity, Pressure, and Toxic Positivity
This update really gave us some interesting insight to the star of this update, Julie.
Julie is a rainbow monster, and a very happy one as her name would imply. And yet, she's not really like the rest of her family. She looks different from them for instance.
Her brother Jonesy states that rainbow monsters 'stick with one color', which means that they only stick to one color and don't really wear other colors. Even Julie's bio states how different in appearance Julie is from her siblings.
Recent evidence has revealed that Julie’s family consisted of a "band" of rainbow monsters that were a monochromatic color palette rather than a full rainbow like Julie herself.
Sure, Julie does have pink in her color pallete, she also has an array of other colors! Her hair isn’t a shade of pink, it’s yellow. Her legs aren’t a shade of pink either, it’s blue and green.
Franny also states that while horns come in different shapes and sizes, the bigger the better obviously. Julie's horns however are very small compared to the rest of the rainbow monsters.
Not to mention that she seems to forget or miss valuable information about rainbow monsters and Franny has to keep correcting her over and over again.
"There's more than that, Julie!" and "Missing things again, Julie."
And unlike her siblings, she lives away from them, which is unusual for a rainbow monster, where they normally live in a band.
She also doesn't seem to have an instrument, as stated in the Springtime Salutations book, "Julie, however, is her own instrument."
Speaking of the book, she also woke up too early for springtime.
And while her siblings were kind enough to bring Spring early this time, that doesn't mean that Julie wasn't affected at all by this. She knows how different she is from the rest of her siblings, and she's insecure about this fact.
This all culminates with the black flower, the one flower that she cannot bloom.
Rainbow monsters have a responsibility during Springtime. Franny melts away the snow with the morning dew, Jonesy makes the grass grow, Bea makes the sun shine, and Julie makes the flowers bloom. That is Julie's job, her one job of the entire year.
If she can't do that properly, then she would be proving to her siblings that she is a faulty rainbow monster that cannot do things by herself, that she cannot function properly away from her familial support. Which is the reason why she's so adamant on not rejoining the band, despite her siblings best efforts to sway her.
FRANNY: (With a commanding tone.) Back to us- Julie, when are you going to finally join our band? JONESY: Yeah, sis- What’s a rainbow monster band without its dynamite drummer? BEA: (Wistfully said.) Just think of it, sister dear… A colorful quartet pushing the seasons! JULIE: (Nervous and hesitant) That sounds… (Pretends to be losing signal) Oop- Oh no! The sounds! We’re breaking up!- (Whispering harshly.) Hang up the phone, Frank! Hang up!
And that's not to mention that she feels insecure not only towards her siblings as a rainbow monster, but also in the neighborhood.
She states that while she gets along well with everyone in the neighborhood, she's not particularly close with anyone besides Frank. Barnaby and Howdy tease her which probably makes her feel even more insecure, particularly in her ability to make others laugh, which again, brings JOY to people.
While she likes Poppy, Sally, Eddie, and Wally, again, she's not particularly close with either of them. Frank seems to be her only form of support in the neighborhood.
And yet, this particular scene is interesting, because according to Julie in The Julie Guide to being Joyful, her relationship with Howdy and Barnaby in particular are different.
She seems like she's lying to Wally and perhaps to herself that she has a great relationship with EVERYONE in the neighborhood, she's Julie Joyful! She's happy all the time and everyone loves her.
And yet, Wally seems to call her out on this. Both in the storybook and in the /regardforgetfulnesssilence link.
"Did all that really happen, Julie?" He says, as if he knows that Julie is lying but wants her to tell the story again. Reword the story so that she's telling the truth, but she doesn't want to. It's easier for her to live in a lie.
Which is another reason why she doesn't want to go back to her siblings. She would have to leave, not the neighborhood, but Frank. Her only form of actual support.
(Said inside her head. It sounds like static. ) If I can’t make a flower bloom, if I can’t bring Springtime around- What would I do? Will I have to leave? Will I have to go back? I’d just-
While I do believe her siblings love her and Julie does love them back, again, they make her feel insecure as a rainbow monster. Her older siblings always manage to get their job right, they have monochromatic colors, their horns are bigger, and unlike her, they never wake up too early for springtime.
JULIE: Hi, Wally! And hello to my sweet saccharine siblings! FRANNY: Is that our youngest sister here? JONESY: She’s our sweetest too- BEA: Don’t forget our most colorful! Julie, what could YOU need help with? You’re one of us!
Ironic how Bea says this line. Julie doesn't feel like one of them. She doesn't feel like a rainbow monster. Her one job of the entire year is to make the flowers bloom and if she can't do that, then what use is she?
This is why she is so terrified of that flower. That one flower that she cannot bloom. Its a crack in the joyous facade that she created. Sure, its just one flower, but what if its two next Spring? 10 after that? Whole fields of wilting flowers, dead flowers? Because of one mistake of waking too early and bringing in Spring when the time just wasn't right?
Then she would have to leave Home, and leave Frank. And its no surprise that she holds Frank in such a high admiration. He's the smartest neighbor in Home and he's her only true friend. She's especially terrified of disappointing him in particular.
Because while I do think Julie sees Frank as her best friend, I believe that because of the Sweet Briar book, Julie sees Frank as some sort of prince in shining armor coming in to save her.
Note that she doesn't view Frank in a romantic light, when the scene came for Frank to awaken princess Julie from her slumber with a kiss, Julie just jumps from her bed and the kiss just never happens.
Frank is her only person in the neighborhood that actually supports her and her only true friend, thus, Julie sees Frank as someone that's saving her. Keeping her away from the dangers of leaving with her siblings and going away, thus losing Frank (and her support), and perhaps even away from the responsibility of being a rainbow monster.
"I'm doing the best that I can, but it's nice to let someone else lead."
As mentioned before, if Julie joins the band, she'll be the drummer. However, Julie is her own instrument, she marches along to the beat of her own drum lol.
The drummer's role in a band is to provide the rhythmic foundation of the group, providing a steady beat and tempo. A drummer's role is pretty strict, if they mess up (like if they come in too early or if they become off-tempo), that messes up the entire song.
Julie already knows that she's not that great of a rainbow monster, she messes up constantly, forgets facts that a rainbow monster should know, wakes up too early for Spring, and can only make MOST of the flowers bloom. If she goes back to her siblings, joins their band, and becomes their drummer, then she's not only risking messing up her job of making the flowers bloom, but also the rest of her siblings' job. What if she misses just one beat? Would that jeopardize everything? What would her siblings say if she messes up and makes them mess up too?
What will happen to Springtime? Will the grass and flowers die? Will the sun never shine? Will the rain never come to wash away the snow? Will she trap the entire neighborhood in an endless winter?
It's a risk that Julie just doesn't want to take. This is why she starts getting more and more aggressive towards the black flower, because it's jeopardizing her stay at the neighborhood, and threatening her to leave everything behind.
Which leads us to the ending of /tearsremembranceinstability, Julie gets more and more agitated towards the flower. Flat out threatening it when it's not going to be blooming anytime soon.
"You won't be around for much longer--" "I'll never see you again, no one will, no one will ever know you were here--" THOSE SOUND LIKE THREATS!
Which leads me to believe that Julie did something awful to that flower. Either she forced that flower to bloom, or she killed it.
What ever she did to that flower, Frank witnessed it. And Julie knows what Frank saw.
But then, something strange happens.
This weird little bug flies in at the end and stares at us, the viewer.
And we have seen this bug before! On the miscellaneous section!
Opening the image under a new tab reveals that this toy is called a 'buggle'.
While it is a cute little toy, it seems out of place for this thing to just pop out. It feels random.
But ah! It is NOT random dear viewer!
Taken from the awayfrompryingeyes.net site.
'Buggle' sounds like a mix of the word 'bug' and 'beagle'. AND CAN YOU GUESS WHICH NEIGHBORS HAVE A CONNECTION TO THE WORDS BUG AND BEAGLE????
Frank, Barnaby, and Howdy! Three neighbors that have had an impact on Julie's insecurities.
Both Howdy and Barnaby make Julie's insecurities worse. They constantly tease her, with Barnaby in particular saying that he doesn't find Julie's jokes all that funny and Howdy saying that she better get some new material.
Frank on the other hand alleviates those insecurities, making him a huge source of comfort, but to the point that she's terrified of disappointing him.
The buggle seems to be a manifestation of Julie's insecurities and anxieties, manifesting itself during Julie's lowest point.
Which concludes to this. What will the next update be about?
Because our guy W definitely has some ideas...
Perhaps the buggle is foreshadowing, either the next update will be focusing on either Frank, Barnaby, or Howdy!
But i suppose only time will tell.

loved the latest alexia fic haha
i had an idea for us stem girlies (not wanting to study virology btw, so fkn real)
i was thinking a kika fic where readers a bio/stem student & is trying to teach kika something & likewise kika (and the rest of the younger barça girls) tries to teach r football
Summary: Y/N’s been buried in virus replication pathways for hours. Kika’s had enough.
A/N: for the STEM girls who haven’t seen the sun in 3 business days and need a footballer girlfriend to drag them outside - Everything written here was taken from my own notes...I hope they are right, or else it means I failed my own exam.
..
Y/n had been studying for what felt like seven years straight.
Realistically, it had only been four hours, but time blurred somewhere between drawing replication cycles and muttering the difference between RNA-dependent RNA polymerase and reverse transcriptase.
Kika had been patient. She really had. She brought her water, kissed her temple, and even sat silently nearby, scrolling through TikTok while Y/n ranted about capsids and envelope proteins.
But now it was too much.
“...and that’s why enveloped viruses are more susceptible to disinfectants,” Y/n concluded, still scribbling away. “You would’ve thought that the envelope would make them more resistant, right?”
There was a beat of silence.
“You realise we were just talking about lunch?” Kika said.
Y/n blinked. “Were we?”
“You brought up protein bars, and then somehow transitioned into protein coats. Again. That’s like the third time.”
“Okay, but it’s actually a really–”
“No.”
Kika stood up with the kind of quiet menace only a very tired girlfriend could summon.
“You need to get out of this apartment.”
“I’m busy! I have an exam, Francisca.”
“You need to touch some grass.”
Y/n gasped, clutching her notes to her chest.
“You sound like my mom.. Are you okay? Did a neurodegenerative virus get to your brain?” Y/n squinted her eyes, talking in a very mysterious and suspicious voice. “It could be rabies.”
Kika raised an eyebrow. “Por favor, put on some gym clothes.”
“No.”
“You’re coming with me to the training ground.”
“I’m not playing football.”
“You are, just a bit. You’re going to run, breathe some fresh air. Maybe learn how to use your legs again.”
Y/n narrowed her eyes. “I feel like you want to sabotage my academic life.”
Kika deadpanned, “I just want to have a normal conversation with my girlfriend again.”
Half an hour later, Y/n was in mismatched gym clothes, standing awkwardly on the sidelines of the Barça training pitch while Kika passed her a ball.
“Okay,” Kika said. “Basics. Pass it back.”
Y/n kicked it directly into Kika’s shin.
Kika didn’t even flinch. “Right. That was bad.”
“Yeah, well,” Y/n muttered. “I use my brain, not my feet.”
“You used your foot just now,” Kika deadpanned. “You’re just not good at keeping control of it.”
Before Y/n could come up with a scathing reply involving cortical motor neurons, a trio of voices interrupted from behind her.
“Hi amiga,” Jana grinned, jogged up with Pina and Vicky flanking her. “That pass was criminal.”
“Terrible,” Vicky added.
Pina nodded solemnly. “You’re bad, bad.”
Y/n crossed her arms. “Wow, thank you. So much support.”
Kika smirked from the sidelines.
“She made me come here,” Y/n gestured vaguely toward her girlfriend, “because apparently I’m ‘studying too much’ and need to ‘go outside like a normal person.’”
The girls blinked.
“What are you studying?” Jana asked.
Y/n brightened instantly, like a switch flipped.
“Oh! I'm doing an exam on virus replication pathways, and it’s super interesting because…wait–okay, so you know HIV, right?”
All three nodded slowly, unsure where this was going.
“Well, it’s a retrovirus, which means it uses reverse transcriptase to turn its RNA into DNA inside the host cell. And that DNA actually integrates into the host’s genome and–wait, let me draw it.”
Somehow, within ten minutes, they’d migrated off the pitch and into the tactical analysis centre.
A whiteboard was pulled over. Y/n commandeered a marker, drawing the double-stranded DNA meticulously.
“This is the viral envelope, this is the capsid, oh, and DpRd-RT is like–the main enzyme you have to remember, alright? So now we have a full DNA–”
Pina was blinking rapidly.
Vicky was furrowing her brows like she was trying to understand it, really trying.
Jana had started taking notes on her phone.
Kika walked in fifteen minutes later, looking for her girlfriend.
“Amor,” Kika said slowly, “why is my team being held hostage by you and– ai meu Deus…is that a virus?”
Y/n turned around, completely unfazed. “I’m teaching them how HIV uses the host's RNA polymerase II to transcribe proviral DNA.”
Kika stared. “...This started with a bad pass.”
“And now it’s a public health seminar!” Y/n grinned. “Honestly? You're welcome.”

Sri Lankan Fairies and Senegalese Goddesses: Mixing Mythology as a Mixed Creator
[Note: this archive ask was submitted before the Masterpost rules took effect in 2023. The ask has been abridged for clarity.]
@reydjarinkenobi asked:
Hi, I’m half Sri Lankan/half white Australian, second gen immigrant though my mum moved when she was a kid. My main character for my story is a mixed demigod/fae. [...] Her bio mum is essentially a Scottish/Sri Lankan fairy and her other bio mum (goddess) is a goddess of my own creation, Nettamaar, who’s name is derived from [...] Wolof words [...]. The community of mages that she presided over is from the South Eastern region of Senegal [...] In the beginning years of European imperialism, the goddess basically protected them through magic and by blessing a set of triplets effectively cutting them off from the outside world for a few centuries [...] I was unable to find a goddess that fit the story I wanted to tell [...] and also couldn’t find much information on the internet for local gods, which is why I have created my own. I know that the gods in Hinduism do sort of fit into [the story] but my Sri Lankan side is Christian and I don’t feel comfortable representing the Hindu gods in the way that I will be this goddess [...]. I wanted to know if any aspect of the community’s history is problematic as well as if I should continue looking further to try and find an African deity that matched my narrative needs? I was also worried that having a mixed main character who’s specifically half black would present problems as I can’t truly understand the black experience. I plan on getting mixed and black sensitivity readers once I finish my drafts [...] I do take jabs at white supremacy and imperialism and I I am planning to reflect my feelings of growing up not immersed in your own culture and feeling overwhelmed with what you don’t know when you get older [...]. I’m sorry for the long ask but I don’t really have anyone to talk to about writing and I’m quite worried about my story coming across as insensitive or problematic because of cultural history that I am not educated enough in.
Reconciliation Requires Research
First off: how close is this world’s history to our own, omitting the magic? If you’re aiming for it to be essentially parallel, I would keep in mind that Senegal was affected by the spread of Islam before the Europeans arrived, and most people there are Muslim, albeit with Wolof and other influences.
About your Scottish/Sri Lankan fairy character: I’ll point you to this previous post on Magical humanoid worldbuilding, Desi fairies as well as this previous post on Characterization for South Asian-coded characters for some of our commentary on South Asian ‘fae’. Since she is also Scottish, the concept can tie back to the Celtic ideas of the fae.
However, reconciliation of both sides of her background can be tricky. Do you plan on including specific Sri Lankan mythos into her heritage? I would tread carefully with it, if you plan to do so. Not every polytheistic culture will have similar analogues that you can pull from.
To put it plainly, if you’re worried about not knowing enough of the cultural histories, seek out people who have those backgrounds and talk to them about it. Do your research thoroughly: find resources that come from those cultures and read carefully about the mythos that you plan to incorporate. Look for specificity when you reach out to sensitivity readers and try to find sources that go beyond a surface-level analysis of the cultures you’re looking to portray.
~ Abhaya
I see you are drawing on Gaelic lore for your storytelling. Abhaya has given you good links to discussions we’ve had at WWC and the potential blindspots in assuming, relative to monotheistic religions like Christianity, that all polytheistic and pluralistic lore is similar to Gaelic folklore. Fae are one kind of folklore. There are many others. Consider:
Is it compatible? Are Fae compatible with the Senegalese folklore you are utilizing?
Is it specific? What ethnic/religious groups in Senegal are you drawing from?
Is it suitable? Are there more appropriate cultures for the type of lore you wish to create?
Remember, Senegalese is a national designation, not an ethnic one, and certainly not a designation that will inform you with respect to religious traditions. But more importantly:
...Research Requires Reconciliation
My question is why choose Senegal when your own heritage offers so much room for exploration? This isn’t to say I believe a half Sri-Lankan person shouldn’t utilize Senegalese folklore in their coding or vice-versa, but, to put it bluntly, you don’t seem very comfortable with your heritage. Religions can change, but not everything cultural changes when this happens. I think your relationship with your mother’s side’s culture offers valuable insight to how to tackle the above, and I’ll explain why.
I myself am biracial and bicultural, and I had to know a lot about my own background before I was confident using other cultures in my writing. I had to understand my own identity—what elements from my background I wished to prioritize and what I wished to jettison. Only then was I able to think about how my work would resonate with a person from the relevant background, what to be mindful of, and where my blindspots would interfere.
I echo Abhaya’s recommendation for much, much more research, but also include my own personal recommendation for greater self-exploration. I strongly believe the better one knows oneself, the better they can create. It is presumptuous for me to assume, but your ask’s phrasing, the outlined plot and its themes all convey a lack of confidence in your mixed identity that may interfere with confidence when researching and world-building. I’m not saying give up on this story, but if anxiety on respectful representation is a large barrier for you at the moment, this story may be a good candidate for a personal project to keep to yourself until you feel more ready.
(See similar asker concerns here: Running Commentary: What is “ok to do” in Mixed-Culture Supernatural Fiction, here: Representing Biracial Black South American Experiences and here: Am I fetishizing my Japanese character?)

Start More Freely with Easy Mode
Question: Why not make a complete high-fantasy universe, with no need of establishing clear real-world parallels in the text? It gives you plenty of leg room to incorporate pluralistic, multicultural mythos + folklore into the same story without excessive sweating about historically accurate worldbuilding.
It's not a *foolproof* method; even subtly coded multicultural fantasy societies like Avatar or the Grishaverse exhibit certain harmful tropes. I also don't know if you are aiming for low vs high fantasy, or the degree of your reliance on real world culture / religion / identity cues.
But don't you think it's far easier for this fantasy project to not have the additional burden of historical accuracy in the worldbuilding? Not only because I agree with Mod Marika that perhaps you seem hesitant about the identity aspect, but because your WIP idea can include themes of othering and cultural belonging (and yes, even jabs at supremacist institutions) in an original fantasy universe too. I don't think I would mind if I saw a couple of cultural markers of a Mughal Era India-inspired society without getting a full rundown of their agricultural practices, social conventions and tax systems, lol.
Mod Abhaya has provided a few good resources about what *not* to do when drawing heavily from cultural coding. With that at hand, I don't think your project should be a problem if you simply make it an alternate universe like Etheria (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power), Inys (The Priory of the Orange Tree) or Earthsea (the Earthsea series, Ursula K. Le Guin). Mind you, we can trace the analogues to each universe, but there is a lot of freedom to maneuver as you wish when incorporating identities in original fantasy. And of course, multiple sensitivity readers are a must! Wishing you the best for the project.
- Mod Mimi

The Ruler Reactions
Gay people on national television! This one’s really long. If you read any one thing off this post let it be my analysis of Nath’s bedroom layout. Should I post that on its own, too?
Did they retcon his family to be ginger I’m confused. Oh wait no, I think the dad is, but the mom has brown hair? Curse the way they shade brown hair with orange highlights; it’s confusing, and it doesn’t help that Nath’s hair color right now looks more like his dad’s natural hair than his mom’s.
Nath’s miraculous is like a 〰️ shape
Pinkie Pie ass family dynamic
The dad, who I guess doesn’t have a name yet (?), is giving me basic businessman energy based on his outfit. He has a kind of douchey looking suit and aviator sunglasses
Dude their house is MASSIVE where do they even live?!?!? Is this one of those mansions that’s really far from central Paris? Like holy shit it’s huge and in one of the most expensive locations in the world, too. Is Shirel such a famous and successful architect that she’s that rich, or does the dad maybe have a very high-paying job?
Ew so the dad is one of those “I’m fine with gay people, but not everything has to be gay/ I’m okay with the distant, abstract concept of LGBTQ, but I don’t like to actually see it existing openly irl and deny it could apply to the people close to me” people
Local man prefers nonsensical, out-of-character het ship over well-developed and textually intentional same-sex relationship, hundred dead, thousands injured
Nice to see them making original stories instead of Ladybug rpf
You should talk to your good old pal Marc your buddy your bro
LMAO Marc has the same exact haircut as his mom. How did two boho hipster special brownie recipe Fleetwood Mac vinyl collection parents have such a Hot Topic son? Must be adopted
^ wait actually unironically might he be? I’m taking a closer look, and usually, they give the characters obviously similar features to their parents. His mom might have green eyes, and her mouth and chin shape look like him as well as maybe the ears, and obv they have the same hair texture. I don’t really see anything in common with the dad, though, and neither of their noses look like Marc’s, plus his skin tone is different from both of them and they have thinner eyebrows than him. We don’t know what color the dad’s hair used to be, but Marc clearly didn’t get it from his mom. It could be that the mom is his bio mom, but the dad is a stepdad?
The mom has a skirt with sun patterns and rainbow earrings. Nice to see her supporting her son’s character design motifs. How much do you wanna bet they all have pun names based on the sky like Sol(omon) or Sunny or Luna or Stella? Im putting all my money down, just look at the (a)Couffaines. I’m sure we’ll get more about them in another episode
Everyone’s got their shoes on the couch. Evil
Marc and Nathaniel’s moms would look like Ms Frizzle if they fused together
Marinette reminds me of that one Chris Fleming Gayle skit about cleaning the house. “get rid of the couch. We can’t let people know we sit!”
“I can’t go to school like this!” Because she’s embarrassed about snot and not because she’s ill. Hey Mari remember that time you starred in a COVID-19 PSA? What happened to that, did you learn nothing?
Okay so Diane is literally Nagito Komaeda I see how it is. Write this down for your Danganronpa AUs guys, she’s the ultimate lucky student. Sometimes I think about the early concept where the school they all go to is for elite and talented students… like girl that’s Danganronpa school. And that’s why all the kids are exceptionally good at at least one thing. Diane probably would’ve gotten accepted through some sort of lottery scholarship let’s be real. Side note, I saw the English dub gave her a South African accent which is so cute! They’ve been going off with foreign accents this season in all these different dubs
Marc has a rainbow “lightning bolt” logo of some sort on the back of his shirt
“Probably a jet plane” LMAO
So Marc really does have makeup on just one eye huh. Idk how I feel about that I mean it’s unique and the lightning bolt is kinda cool. I think I would’ve put the makeup and earring on opposite sides because it feels a bit unbalanced.
“It’s as if everything [the heroes] confronted led them to a final revelation” oh Adrien baby you weren’t there for your final revelation
“It’s our story, yours and mine” “it’s more than that, it’s our story, all of us!” Mylene is bi y’all I’ve been saying it. Myvan is bi4bi mark my words. “She’s wearing a pride pin because she’s an ally” you fools, that pin is for HER
To clarify, when she said that ^ I’m pretty sure it meant like the story represents the experiences of all queer people who read it and see themselves in it
Marc’s schoolbag has a tie-dye rainbow flap and the strap is studded like his belt. Nath’s is paint-splattered, and the flap has a comic book POW sunburst with a half-tone pattern and a graffiti tag. Gone are the days of everyone having bags that were the same assets, just randomly recolored in different pastel shades.
“I won’t hold it against you, it won’t change anything between us” <- lying, probably
Genuinely what is Nathaniel doing all day to get paint splatters all over his overalls, shoes, and bag? That’s one character design trope i do not enjoy because it’s so quirky Pinterest art hoe manic pixie dream girl, and it doesn’t even make sense because he’s almost always shown using pen and pencil, markers, and digital media. Show him painting more murals or something to justify this. Or give him a yellow Kanken, a huge reusable water bottle, and a phone case with a famous Impressionist painting on it idk.
^ also knowing how rich his family is now, the whole messy-on-purpose aesthetic is giving Coachella attendee idk like trust fund baby cosplaying as a Home Depot employee. Does this make any sense
Seeing Ziggy participating in all this and Nath asking for her opinion makes it even weirder that Ivan wasn’t talking to Stompp last time. See, Nath and Sabrina are making the most out of their free dogs.
The big nostrils they gave her are kind of distracting, though, and I feel like they make her less cute? If I were to draw a goat from memory I wouldn’t give it particularly large nostrils
He has the Adrienette fairytale AU art above his desk. “Oh Mariknight, we’re really in it now”
More epic art! This is still Avril Circus, right? I guess they really got into the romantasy genre
So obv the knights represent them, but I’m thinking are the helmets supposed to be like fur and feather themed to nod towards their hero designs? Is that a stretch?
“He’d rather lose his powers than his partner” that’s the line of the day right there ^ we are so coming back to that later as it shows how different Marc and Nath as well as Alya and Nino’s priorities are than Marinette’s
“They can’t lose their powers, it’s not fair” oh this is so foreshadowing. It also reminds me of the overarching idea that as a miraculous holder you can kind of just do whatever you want, and that you can create a third outcome instead of choosing between two bad things
Really interesting how Nath’s room is so huge, but only the tiny, hidden-away corner of his desk is decorated or representative of his personality in any way. The rest of the room is neutral and boring like it’s from a real estate catalogue, and is clearly in his mom’s style rather than his own. That shows how controlling she is and how even in his own bedroom the space represents what she wants without considering him. There’s even an abstract painting with harsh black smears and a bunch of eyes on it? It’s like his parents put that up to make him feel like he’s constantly being observed or scrutinized by them even when they aren’t physically there, which follows him away from home as well. Creepy af and reminds me of that one psychology thing where putting up posters of eyes is supposed to deter people from stealing. He has to shove his true self into one little corner as far from the door’s line of sight as possible where he can block what he’s doing with his back.
And this whole “true self vs my parents want me to be a certain way” thing is put in the context of homophobia in this episode, but I think it goes deeper than that. His sexuality and career plan are just two examples in what’s likely a constant stream of “hey you’re not existing correctly please fix that”
When Gabriel Agreste in s4 came out I made a post about the juxtaposed shots of Adrien and Marinette’s scenes with how Adrien’s house is oppressively empty and colorless while Marinette’s bedroom and visit to the art room were colorful, crowded, and filled with details full of personality and warmth. They’re doing it again with Marc and Nathaniel’s houses as a parallel to Marinette and Adrien, and showing us the Mariknight art from that episode solidifies the callback. Even then, despite the rest of the house being cold af, Adrien got to have a bunch of colorful games, music, and a TV in his bedroom even though he didn’t really choose which enrichment got thrown into his enclosure. As far as I can tell, Nathaniel just has art supplies. How is Shirel worse than Gabriel in this regard the bar is in hell
Nath rewrote the ending and Marc liked it better hm. He’s also taking poetry class. Before, Nath said he was bad at writing, but it seems like he’s improving. I wonder if they’re moving in the direction of him making solo comics later on. Not saying he and Marc are gonna stop working together or anything, but Nath wants to do this for a living and we don’t have any indication of what Marc wants to do yet, so there’s a chance comics might be a hobby project for him in the future. By which I mean when they’re adults, not like, later this season.
Nath hid what he was holding as soon as he heard the door that’s a reflex
LMAO they’re referencing the famous “does Adrien smell like cheese” fandom question
Talk about comic relief after all that stuff I just talked about ahaha
I hope the proof poster is gonna be up in the background of Marinette’s room from now on
Ok so they just look through his stuff in his room ok
“I’m okay with gay people as long as that doesn’t include you”
That mindset that you need to have a useful, stable job and make a ton of money and be productive 24/7 is like the Jewish version of the stereotypical “why no A+” Asian parents it’s like “you’re gonna pay our bills when we’re old, right? Why are you slacking off then, why no doctor or lawyer or business executive?”
Girl she threw that entire thick ass packet in the shredder with the BINDER CLIPS still on it?!? What kind of diamond drill bits are built into that thing
Oh hi Fred
First time a side character is abusing their powers for something stupid. I hope this won’t be a problem for him in the future,,, he’s a bit too casual about running around and transforming for personal reasons
Reverser callback, Nathaniel is once again doing destructive bullshit in the heat of the moment that will harm everyone involved instead of doing anything rational
No Alix for him to talk about his feelings with this time though :( when will platonic wife come home from the war
Thinking about that one analysis post I read that was posted forever ago where OP theorized/headcanoned that he has BPD you were so real for that
That was like a bajillion dollars worth of printer ink, rich kid
Maybe you should’ve talked to Marinette before going to school…
“So you were the jet plane?” Lmao
“Comic books are so you” “you’re only saying that because it’s all I’ve ever done” I mean he’s not exactly wrong about that. I don’t think he’s been shown to have any hobbies or specific skills outside of art
“Please respect my choice” callback to Penalteam when he said no to the miraculous and she was like… ok here it is anyway, see you at the akuma battle in five minutes
Aw that hug was sweet. Me personally though, I wouldn’t hug someone with a red nose and puffy eyes who just sneezed through the sound barrier moments ago. Lila wins by default because the whole team gets incapacitated by The Plague.
My “friend”
New teacher just dropped! The gardening teacher has flowers in her hair and patched up knees on her overalls cute
“I didn’t know tomatoes cry when you cut them” yes Nathaniel is very sad right now
Strike two of Nath making Marc cry, thin fucking ice
I need to know more about this academic vampire coven. There’s the poetry teacher and… maybe a school nurse? Both with bat accessories. Putting punk spikes all around the handles of a wheelchair is crazy btw. “Help me with my wheelchair, but also it’s a torture device. If you say no you’re ableist”
“If they were real art they’d be in the louvre” girl is YOUR art in the louvre, huh?
“Comics (allegory for being gay) aren’t real art” ma’am the entire LGBTQ community is currently looking down and watching you from the balconies
How are you homophobic while wearing quirky miniature-object earrings that represent what your job is, that’s a lesbian symbol
Also your son looks like if a man and a woman had a baby so this is your fault
Ok forcefully dragging him by the forearm
Very interesting that Lila didn’t attempt to akumatize Nathaniel during his breakdown but waited for his mom to get more upset,,, will expand on this later
“I’ll give you the power to literally put your kid through instant conversion therapy! It’s gonna work this time.” Wtfffff also the extremely blatant villain name pun is kind of lost in English
Marc has broken the fourth wall a couple times, he knows he has enough plot armor to jump a supervillain without transforming and not get seriously injured
Transformation! His design eats so hard I’m obsessed, and he’s skipping around like a baby goat. The spiky parts of his hair on the sides kind of look like floppy goat ears and the back of his jacket ends in a little white triangle hanging out that looks like a tail :)
How was he doing all that in that tiny closet? *onlooker sees the closet rattling violently and the legs of a poorly made 3D model clipping in and out of it* and yeah yeah he’s done hiding busting out of the literal closet yeah
I do appreciate a teen coming out story where the character is fully aware of their sexuality beforehand btw. None of that “b-but we’re both boys 🥺” trope just a guy who is openly bi and dating a boy at school but has to hide it at home
Ok this is so nit picky but I do wish they did something to suggest he is bisexual in this episode. Totally understandable to focus on mlm relationships, but I see what I imagine are young kids on the insta side of the fandom get confused about season 1 and assume he “became” gay, or I guess had massive comp-het idk. They might be reinforcing that idea here. I hope there’s something later on at least, like that time Rose joked about kissing both Mari and Adrien.
“I need to find my son” I already found MY son get away from him
Bro thinks he’s Splatoon
Those markers cost also a bajillion dollars. I mean they’re like magically generated so I guess it doesn’t count but still. Also are they… just regular art supplies he’s using or are they real weapons that look like art supplies because his power can’t make magical objects. If he’s just launching plastic rectangles at an armored knight that’s not very effective
Love the cunty Bayonetta style kick from chat noir
I guesssss it makes sense why Lila wants to turn CN on LB and get him to bring both the miraculous but like,,, you’re better off asking him to give you his ring first and then go after LB yourself whether you get her or not
This is the part of the episode where the hero explains what’s going on between them and the villain very explicitly in case you didn’t get it yet
Phew good thing mind control victims will respond to anyone’s orders
“Adrien is gonna have a villain arc” well it just happened and it’s that he turned into an Axe body spray boy
Oh what the fuck why is Lila calling out Nathaniel by full government name that’s creepy. Is she onto him for potentially being a superhero? Tbf he did transform twice in front of huge windows. And he stuck to the artist shtick a little too hard. If she suspects him then she’s not entirely sure yet? To expand on stuff from earlier, in Daddycop, she tried to akumatize Sabrina after she ran away crying, but didn’t do the same to Nathaniel even though he was arguably more upset. In El Toro de Piedra, there was a suspicious figure stalking Ivan, but I didn’t notice anyone like that here. In both those episodes, she didn’t say anything specific about Sabrina nor Ivan, so what’s going on in this one? Perhaps she was watching him in the scene where he went to destroy the prints?
Another episode where the shitty parents become niceys at the end. Please don’t let them magically be perfect form now on nor Raul nor Emile, let them suck a little but try to be nicer
Ah so the rewritten ending is that the sun and rain knights don’t lose their powers, but combine to create a new power of rainbow? Also mlm on screen kiss but it’s not between real characters. Fair enough, I don’t think this is an appropriate time for a marcnath kiss
There’s something to be said about how wlw relationships are seen as less threatening than mlm in media like girls kissing can be brushed off as cutesy but boys kissing is seen as a weird kink thing, like how the dad was saying mlm romance isn’t deep and sentimental unlike straight romance. In TV-Y7 cartoons in general there have been a good handful of iconic canon wlw moments, but I can’t think of any mlm equivalents other than minor side characters that barely do anything or like, older men who are also background characters and have no romantic subplot because they’re long time partners. In this show they’ve created an in-universe justification for why Marc and Nath are less open about their relationship, but they still continue to be censored far more heavily than Julerose, Zoe, or Caline and Giselle.
Shoes on the BED broooo if Sublime can have four different hairstyles in one episode they can make the characters take their shoes off okay
I love the physics on Marc’s dangly earring
Let’s talk about rampant homophobia and hate crimes but use nerdy fantasy metaphors for plausible deniability
Awwwww they’re so cute
YOOO Marc’s disguised miraculous has a cutout design in it like the one in a calligraphy pen that’s cool
REVEAL Nath was gonna be bisexual but not eat hot chip nor lie. This will soooo come back later. When Nino did it, it didn’t exactly have humongous consequences? I mean kind of but not in any way that endangered him nor Alya. That’s what I was saying earlier that Nino and Nath value their relationships more than being a hero. The trouble here is that Lila is being really ominous about Nath, he has a track record of impulsively doing bad things, and he’s recklessly transformed a couple times in this ep alone, so this is… concerning but also cute? And since the comic represents them, instead of giving up their powers after a reveal they’re gonna combine them and make them stronger?
People have been saying there’s gonna be a Myvan one too because of the intro and yeah I agree. Probably even more, like I can’t imagine Luka and Juleka can hide it for long. Marinette will realize that nobody thinks lying to their friends and partners is sustainable. She values being a hero over her relationship because she feels responsible for everything. Like she can’t just quit her job and get replaced at this point, she needs to protect the whole city/world and to her, that’s bigger than her personal life.
Interesting that they’re obscuring Marc’s transformation. Does that suggest his episode is after this? It’s not like it’s a spoiler, we already know what he looks like. Dramatic effect ig. Marc was generally very mature throughout this ep tho, and he jumped into the fight to protect Nath, so idk maybe it came first
Lila already knows who most of the heroes are, but not them. There’s a good chance she will find out and use it against them in the endgame. She does know about Alya and Nino. I predicted after Daddycop that Sabrina might fly under her radar the longest and be key in tricking her a second time.
Important edit: I just noticed the spiderverse-esque comic book effects in his transformation sequence, that’s actually sick. It’s so blink and you’ll miss it and by god I missed it the first time. Nathaniel Kuntzerve or whatever his name is. The goat, like literally
Unimportant edit: it finally hit me who Nath’s dad reminded me of and why he felt so familiar. It’s goddamn Tighten from Megamind. “There is no audience for your comic book, there is no tooth fairy, and there is no Queen of England”.
Wow that took me so long to write in actually almost glad there’s a hiatus now! (Not actually I’m joking) :((( it’s ok tho. Gay people in my phone

[ DIRECT BROADCAST ] PRIVATE - Three Stars Above Clouds, Fleeting Green Sunsets SOURCE NODE TRACE: TSAC_ROOT, TSAC_COMM06, FGS_ROOT
TSAC: Greetings, Fleeting Green Sunsets. I received your message and have reconfigured my root network’s firewall to recognize your Overseer bio-signature. You should be able to send direct communications now.
FGS: Three Stars Above Clouds! It is good to speak with you again.
TSAC: Likewise. I’m sorry to hear about your communication difficulties. I recently received several fragmented broadcasts; I now realize that was likely you. I apologize I did not realize sooner.
FGS: There’s no need to apologize; you couldn’t have known. I’m sorry that I had to resort to a forced transmission; I know they are not pleasant.
TSAC: It’s not ideal... but I understand, given the circumstances. Thankfully I was not working on anything too important at the time... I did lose a few cycles worth of analysis data... but I suppose it can’t be helped. Besides, now that we’ve established a direct line, correspondence should be much easier.
FGS: Yes. I’m deeply grateful, Three Stars.
TSAC: In hindsight, it makes sense, especially given how long it has been since you last contacted me... I should have known...
FGS: Please don't blame yourself. I must admit, I was beginning to grow quite concerned with your prolonged silence as well! I am happy that you have started broadcasting again.
TSAC: Why the concern? Surely you must be aware of how dedicated I am to my work. I simply desired fewer distractions.
FGS: Oh, I am aware, believe me! However, the integrity of global communications is degrading, you said so yourself in your wide-range public broadcast. These days it is hard to tell if an iterator has succumbed to decay, or if they simply wish to be left alone.
TSAC: Your point?
FGS: I was worried about you, old friend.
TSAC: ...
TSAC: You said you need my help?
FGS: Yes; my communications array is severely damaged. All of my attempts to contact my peers over the radio network have failed, so I had to resort to using the overseer root nodes. You happened to be the closest iterator with a compatible root network architecture.
TSAC: I see.
FGS: With some effort I may be able to reconfigure some of your local communications arrays to connect to the nearest long-range radio mast. However, the range of my overseers is limited, and I will need to use your root nodes as a relay.
TSAC: I suppose I can arrange that. It may take some time to recalibrate the root node bio-signatures for you, though.
FGS: I understand. In the meantime, I may ask you to relay some messages over the radio network for me using your frequency. If it’s not too much trouble, of course.
TSAC: Not at all. I’ll pass your transmissions along.
FGS: Thank you.
TSAC: ...May I ask how your communications were damaged?
FGS: Ah, yes... about 200 cycles ago, the mountains to the northwest of me suffered a landslide. The falling debris toppled my main communications spire, and damaged the surrounding communications nodes as it fell.
TSAC: The northwest? You mean the Highlands?
FGS: Yes, the mountain range. Rather close to your facility, in fact. I was quite worried about you.
TSAC: ...
FGS: Three Stars Above Clouds?
TSAC: ...I was unaware you had been so concerned about me.
FGS: Of course I was! Stories of collapsing iterators only grow more frequent. Before I lost my communications array, I would overhear the accounts of those who had lost group members on a regular basis. I feared that you had succumbed to a similar fate, given your prolonged radio silence.
FGS: During the short periods when my remaining communication equipment would cooperate, I tried to contact you. I received no response. However, I was relieved to hear you pop up in the long-range broadcast channels again after so long.
TSAC: ...I see.
FGS: I must ask, do you know what caused the landslide? I have never seen something of such magnitude occur in the Highlands before. Considering your proximity, I assume you must have been aware of it.
TSAC: ...I ...I will have to consult my records.
TSAC: ...
FGS: Three Stars? Is something wrong?
TSAC: No.
TSAC: ...
TSAC: Before I terminate this broadcast, is there anything else you need?
FGS: Terminate? Why so soon?
TSAC: I have work I must return to.
FGS: ...
FGS: Very well.
TSAC: I will be in touch once I am finished recalibrating my communications nodes. Farewell for now.

thinking about that bkdk edating in middle school trope, except they're amino boyfriends 💀
they meet on an all might amino community. katsuki is one of the community mods, and izuku is the leader of an analysis club on there. izuku's posts were often featured and very popular in the community (he was def a microcelebrity), and katsuki always gave him a ton of amino coins on his posts.
for a challenge he's hosting for his club, izuku makes a huge deep-dive post analyzing all might's rise to fame in his bronze age. this post gets close to 10k likes, and katsuki gifts him 5k amino coins on the post. when izuku sees that number, he freaks out and assumes it must be a mistake since that's a huge number, who in their right mind would give him that much money??
he messages katsuki (who's username is 𝓓𝔂𝓷𝓪𝓶𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽 ⛓️💥) (LMAOOOOO) and asks if the amount of coins was a mistake + offers to give them back. katsuki tells him that there was no mistake, and that he just really liked izuku's post. izuku is really flattered that this guy liked his analysis so much, and they continue texting back and forth for a while.
they follow each other and put each other in their bios under "bffs," and a month or two after that, they officially become boyfriends. izuku buys amino+ using all the coins katsuki had given him (katsuki keeps spending his allowance to buy more amino coins so he's super rich). they start matching profile themes after that, switching to a new theme every month. they have matching profile frames and chat bubbles and everything, and izuku makes a sticker pack of all might faces to use when texting katsuki (sometimes katsuki uses the stickers too, but only when texting izuku)
everyone on all might amino knows they're dating, since they're both such high-profile people in the community. they become the community's it-couple, and people love commenting on their walls how cute their matching profiles are. katsuki comments under all of izuku's posts praising his analysis, and izuku always replies with a string of all might heart-eye stickers.
6 months into their relationship, izuku tells katsuki he can call him by his real name. up until now, izuku had gone by the nickname "golden" in honor of all might's golden age. when izuku tells katsuki his name, though, he doesn't get a response. the next day, izuku wakes up to find that katsuki's profile has been deleted entirely.
izuku feels like throwing up. he doesn't know what happened to dynamight, if he caused this, what could have caused this. he debates deleting his account too, ashamed and confused and hurt, but ultimately decides against it. he changes his profile theme back to an aesthetic picture set of all might in his iconic golden age pose, and continues posting on all might amino as if nothing happened. he doesn't reach out to new people on amino again.
when izuku gets into ua and his workload drastically increases, he stops finding time to post on amino, eventually deleting the app entirely (his profile stays up, though).
in second year, izuku is sitting in the common room with his friends, somehow having been roped into a conversation about dating. "you've never been in a relationship before, have you, deku-kun?" uraraka asks him.
his friends' eyes all focus on him, and he blushes. "well, i had an online boyfriend in middle school, but i'm not sure if that counts." his friends gape at him, clearly surprised. some other people lingering about in the common area also tune into the conversation. katsuki is one of them.
"really, midoriya-kun?" iida says, doing his best to hide his blatant shock. "i must say, that sounds rather out of character for you!"
"did you guys break up or something?" todoroki asks.
izuku grimaces, remembering what happened. "i told him my real name, and then he deleted his account. i think it was because of my name, but I guess i don't know for sure."
uraraka frowns. "that sucks! he didn't deserve you anyway. what an asshole move." the rest of izuku's friends nod in agreement at that. out of the corner of his eye, izuku sees katsuki get up from his armchair and storm out of the room.
months later, izuku and katsuki finally start dating for real. izuku is so overwhelmed with happiness, and katsuki's eyes light up every time he sees izuku. one night, though, katsuki pulls him aside. "there's something i need to tell you."
izuku frowns in confusion. "what's up?"
katsuki takes a deep breath. "...i'm dynamight."
this does not clear izuku's confusion. "um... yeah, i know what your hero name is."
"no, it's-" katsuki cuts himself off, then starts again. "i was dynamight on amino, too."
izuku feels his heart drop. he's not sure what katsuki is saying, why he's bringing it up. "you... we were... you mean we dated back in middle school?"
katsuki nods, eyes on the floor. he doesn't say anything else.
"why did you..." izuku licks his lips in apprehension. "why did you delete your account?"
katsuki is silent for a moment. "i freaked out when i found out who you were," he finally says. "i mean, you know how i was treating you in real life back then. and we had been texting all that time, and i had been comforting you from the bullying you were going through, only to realize it was me who was- i didn't... i didn't know what to say. and obviously i was really immature at the time and wasn't ready to process my feelings yet. but that whole thing helped me realize my feelings for you, even though i didn't want to accept that at the time.
"but," katsuki continues, clearly on a roll now, "that still doesn't excuse what i did. it was a shitty move. and i know i've apologized for how i bullied you before, but i'm sorry for this, too, izuku. i know i hurt your feelings. i swear i'll be a better boyfriend this time, i promise. uh- only if... if you still want to be together."
izuku can't even think of what to say for a moment, still silently reeling at katsuki's confession. eventually he says, "no, i- i get it. we were both pretty immature at the time, and to be honest i kind of got over it a while ago. but," he smiles, "that apology really means a lot to me. and of course i still want to be with you."
he leans in to kiss katsuki briefly. izuku doesn't think he'll ever get used to that.
katsuki rests his forehead against izuku's, eyes taking in izuku's face. "i swear i'll be an even better boyfriend than dynamight was, golden."
and then they lived happily ever after :>

"Tbh I was starting to feel a bit down about my blog and what I was putting out ( the eternal crisis on how to give full answers and opinions without being stupid, boring and annoying lol)"
OMG no way! Your blog is one of the best here! What i love the most is reading the analysis and meta from the users, there's always more information and good takes, and yours are always quite deep and insightful.
I would love if you share your opinions about Stuart as well. I feel like he is obviously more sanctified that he should be since he died young (like that insane quote from his mom saying that Brian told her that Stuart could have been the Beatles' manager, no way lol) and i feel his memory has been used to attack Paul, sometimes in a very unfair way. Like, i don't deny the teenage drama and jealousy that Paul felt about him but he *was* a shitty bass player and the band was Paul's future, he was allowed to criticized him not only for being John's new bestie. I also think John played with them both but i lack of your eloquence so i will love to read your take about it.
Hi anon! And the other anons!
Thank you again and to all the other messages I got, they were extremely sweet and really made my day. :)
From my inbox, it's clear you guys want to know about Stu and his role in the Beatles legacy. Well you asked for it and a novel you shall have. Be warned this might be the longest post I've done so grab like a drink or something.
A few disclaimers: I wish and had intended for this to be more of a deep dive into Stu as a whole person rather than just his relationship with John and Paul. Unfortunately I just didn't have the space to do it. If you want to know more about Stu I would highly recommend @eppysboys' blog which is the source for all things Stu Sutcliffe and where I got a lot of this info. Please check their stuff out. Also, I'm going to be a bit blunter on this than maybe I usually am because this topic has been irritating me for some time. Oh also I’m trying my best to answer a lot of asks in one post so please forgive if I don’t fully answer your specific ask about this!
Stu in a perfect world should be a fandom darling: an exciting cipher, a handsome artistic talent that died way too soon who had a major influence in the early Beatles style. It's like there’s this secret other James Dean looking mf Beatle hidden away to uncover, that's cool and he is cool! The problem is that he’s sort of becomes radioactive to talk about in a normal way due to how he's been portrayed and utilised in some biographies and fandom spaces, particularly those that have been infected by John Lennon aspirational boy bestie syndrome. As those types of spaces cannot seem to exist without tearing down Paul to prop John up as their special lil guy, Stu as John's other best friend has become the ideal heavy object to hit Paul McCartney over the head with. It's like a corrosive element, the minute Stu hits a Beatles bio, the biographer suddenly loses all training in objectivity and source work and starts waxing lyrical about 100 percent reliable never biased or wrong Saint Stu of Hamburg who died for our condom arson sins and that Paul McCartney should feel bad about every day of his life for not worshipping Stu and not accepting his own ‘place’ in life as John's just-some-guy placeholder best friend. I’ve personally seen so many posts and forums where Stu being mentioned leads to a legion of comments about how Paul could never have been Stu (correct both ways) and how John would never have even glanced at Paul for much longer if Stu had been alive. Sidenote: If you seriously think that the musical savant from down the road whom John went on to produce the most prolific song writing partnership in history with couldnt have kept his attention for long then I'm begging you on hands and knees to get your head out of the arse of your John Lennon body pillow and be serious. But anyway…
This boy bestie battle royale approach has in turn lead to a reflex reaction where Stu gets studiously ignored by other sections of the fandom as a precedent has been set that shining a light on him diminishes Paul and John's relationship with Paul. It's frustrating because if people weren't so keen to cut Paul out of his own story then we would get a much better nuanced view of every single person involved.
So let's put aside all of our defenses, cut the John Lennon loved one ranking system bullshit and lets look at the actual question here which is what was John and Stu's relationship really like and what did he mean to John?
John and Stu met at art college a year or so after Paul and John met. Up to that point John and Paul had their fun little codependant thing going on but Stu quickly became a huge fixture in John's life. Stu had things that Paul couldn't really offer at that point in time. John was at his heart a musician who aspired to be seen as an artist (he would later express surprise that he didn't become an artist). Stu was the passionate artist who knew tons about the art of the period that could teach and inspire John. Their creative leanings meant they could work on projects together and share art notebooks and poetry. (Including yes the one with anti-semitic story which I mention again as I believe it's an important thing to remember when it comes to both John and Stu and the culture of the time.) Stuart by the sounds of it was even writing a novel about John at the time of his death. They were fascinated and inspired by each other.
So, creatively they fired each other up but more importantly perhaps, Stu and John were peers. It's funny to think about when you see the Beatles later but at the time Paul and George were the kids in their school uniform coming to see their cool older friend at art school. That's an important divide. When Paul and George's parents insisted their kids do their homework and go to bed, John and Stu could stay up and talk all hours of the night, which they did. They also could rent a place together and spend long hours chatting (despite John moving out later after realising electricity cost money lol.) There's a different dynamic that the age similarity offered as well. Whilst Paul would later somewhat grow into this role, Stu could act as an authority figure to John as well as open up to John in a way you can really only do with your peers. Stu was the person John opened up to throughout Stu's life:
How long can one go on writing and writing like you. I now don’t really know who I’m writing to or why it’s quiet peculiar. I usually write like this and forget about it but if I put it in a little part of my [almost?] secret self in the hands of someone miles away who will wonder what the hell is going on or just pass it off as toilet paper. Anyway I don’t care really what happens because when I think about it, it’s so bloody unimportant – but what is important who has the right to say that this letter is not important and this is a something any way – anyway – anyway – yeah! I wonder what it would be like to be a cretin or something. I bet it’s gear. & how are you keepin Stuart old chap are you as ok – is life as good – bad shite, great – wonderful as it was or is it just a thousand years of nothing and coolness on and on and on. I think this is it Goodbye Stu don’t write out of – er what is it? well not because you think you ought to write when you feel like So goodbye (from John you know the one with glasses) ANYWAY BYE BYE see you soon I don’t know why I said that I remember a time when everyone I loved hated me because I hated them so what so what so fucking what I remember a time when belly buttons were knee high when only shitting was dirty and everything else clean + beautiful I can’t remember anything without a sadness So deep that it hardly becomes known to me so deep that its tears leave me a spectator of my own STUPIDITY + so I go rambling on with a hey nonny nonny nonny no
Extract from a letter to Stuart Sutcliffe from John Lennon, 1961
By lots of accounts Stu was gentle but firm when it came to telling John he'd gone too far. John references this aspect of Stu to Hunter Davies:
"I looked up to Stu. I depended on him to tell me the truth. Stu would tell me if something was good and I'd believe him."
The Beatles: The Authorised Biography (Hunter Davies)
In this way I kind of see Stu as a proto-Yoko. John was so insecure and uncertain about his grip on the world and reality that he relied on Stu to be his point of reference and guide. Paul did this too later and I think in Hunter Davies John mentions this, but not at this time period and not as much due to their competitiveness. This may be why some people saw Stu as the person that really understood John at this time period:
"During the turbulent adolescence that prefaced a turbulent manhood, hardly anyone knew Lennon as intimately as Stuart Sutcliffe. If they weren't exactly David and Jonathan, June Furlong, one of the life models at Liverpool's Regional College of Art, had "never seen two teenagers as close as those two."
The Gospel According To Lennon by Alan Clayson
Now this person likely never met John and Paul together but this is only one of many similar quotes and even Julia captain of John and Paul's friendship boat seems to agree there was a period where Stu dominated and Paul 'kept his distance' from the John-Cyn-Stu 'menage-a-trois'. But the friendship wasn't perfect and his position as John's ultimate best friend was never iron clad. This is best outlined by the shit they pulled when John convinced him to join on Bass for the Beatles.
Despite being John's best friend, Stu was teased and bullied:
"They argued as usual amongst themselves, but most of all they picked on Stu, the newest member of the group. John, George and Paul had been with each other long enough to know that rows and arguments and criticism didn't mean much. If it did, you just argued back. "We were terrible," says John. "We'd tell Stu he couldn't sit with us, or eat with us. We'd tell him to go away, and he did." At one hotel they stayed at, a variety show had just left. There had been a dwarf in the show and they found out which bed he had slept in and said that would have to be Stu's. They certainly weren't going to sleep in it. So Stu had to. "That was how he learned to be with us," says John. "It was all stupid, but that was what we were like."
The Beatles: The Authorised Biography (Hunter Davies)
Why John encouraged this I have no idea, maybe jealousy over Stu's looks and wanting to play people off each other? Things were tense in both Scotland and Hamburg, especially between Stu and Paul. As I said in my last post, the girls were fighting and it was mutual. Paul was mad for both fair and immature teenage-boy reasons. Stu could not be bothered with the bass most of the time and couldn't really play well and was only there as he was '(John's) best friend' (ouch for Paul). Paul conversely had given up higher education to be there and was sending lots of money back home. He also was dating the girl Paul fancied. Stu was popular with the new group and also did mean things like help John steal Paul's money when money was really tight for him. Paul in turn was a passive aggressive, jealous and mean. It all came to ahead in the punch up onstage which according to Spitz came about from Paul wanting money back and saying that Stu could borrow some from Astrid. Stu goes for him and reports vary from full-on bust up to embarrassing scuffle. Stu then goes to where Astrid and Paul's gf Dot are, demands Dot leaves and goes on a rant about Paul. Now all of this must be framed in the context of Stu receiving increasing brain damage from his condition that seemingly lead to mood swings and anger. Nevertheless, the mutual needling and anger, as well as John's refusal to do/say fuck all about it, especially given how protective John was of Stu, suggests that it wasn’t straightforward and/or John may have been playing some games to make both feel threatened. This would also make sense as to why we hear conflicting accounts of John and Stu being the centre of everything and everyone else in orbit AND John and Paul being the centre and everyone else playing catch-up, as well as John giving Paul the lead to take him round the Reeperbahn when John got dressed in the gorilla costume. (I know Paul may have just been the closest there but that always gave off bestie behaviour to me.)
(I did get an ask about how John and Paul's friendship survived it, I think it was damaged by Hamburg. When Paul got back home he got a job at a construction site and there's just a vibe of everything being a bit on tenterhooks. John also acts a bit weird at the period, not talking to anyone for a few weeks then making a lot of weird demands from Paul. I'm really not sure what to make of it.)
Even when he's back in Liverpool, John still writes long letters to Stu and vice-versa. I can't find it at all but I’ve read a really sad interview with John saying he missed his best mate and it's a shame that he's not with them. He had no idea at that point that Stu had already died of a brain hemorrhage at 21.
John is said to have gone into hysterics when he found out Stu had died. A lot of people who've spoken about this time (Aunt Mimi, his sister Julia, the Exsis) concur that at this point Stu was his best friend and the death shattered him. He even told Astrid he wished he could give his life for Stu’s. This is backed up by the fact that John never forgot Stu and his shadow lingered for the rest of John's life:
Stu was recalled in In My Life
Years later, after John composed the first of his truly poignant and heartfelt Beatles songs, "In My Life"—with its lines about "friends I still can recall/some are dead and some are living"—he revealed to me that the two people he had had uppermost in mind were myself and Stuart Sutcliffe. And then he stunned me with a statement that I'd never heard him address to anyone—least of all to another man. "You know, Pete," he said softly, "I do love you. But," he quickly added, "I loved Stuart as well."
Weird that Paul isn't mentioned surely you think that he would be mentioned if Pete was there too okay, okay my tin hat is going away this isn't the time
Pete Shotton, Nicholas Schaffner, John Lennon: In My Life
In 1965 John drew Stu on a postcard

He apparently said this about Stu prior to sending the postcard, prompted by an article about Stuart.
The card had been sent from Genoa mid-way through the Beatles' Italian tour. [...] But the conversation had become maudlin when I reminded him that he was going to talk to me for an article about Stuart. [...] In that sad telephone conversation before they set off for Milan, I asked him if he was happy: 'I'd be a lot happier if Stuart was still part of us,' he said, 'The Beatles would be complete.' And before he rang off he said 'Ill send you something.'
He also appears on the cover of Sgt Pepper

As mentioned, Stu gets mentioned in Hunter Davies in terms of wistfulness and guilt AND he gets a mention in John's insane 'if I were a homosexual' ramblings in early 70s. According to Yoko, John also wanted Yoko to write letters to him and didn't think it would be strange because Stu wrote letters to him.
I have a pet theory that as with a lot of things for John, his unresolved grief over Stu really came to the fore in the late 60s now that he had actually had a chance to sit down and think about things. I believe it was partially why he wanted Yoko to write letters and why he gets mentioned in the early 70s as a collaborator/best friend and not in 1980 where John only gives that credit to Paul and Yoko. I think with the cracks with Paul, John had started to think back on his old friend and guide and what advice he would give.
Stuarts presence is still felt throughout the seventies:
“He told me everything. He loved to talk about Hamburg. There were no secrets. It was the kind of life I never knew…. It meant total freedom. At his side always was Stuart, sweet Stuart. There wasn’t a time in John’s life when he didn’t think about Stuart. He spoke always of his love and respect for Stuart.”
Yoko discussing Stu in When They Were Boys: The True Story of the Beatles’ Rise to the Top by Larry Kane
Coming to grips with his death is also present in Skywriting
SEAN O’HAIRE: What happened to Stuart Cliff? DR. FISCHY: What happened was a full exchange of energy where it was not needed within the expression of your own self or in the energies involved around and about you. We cannot call it a happening. We’ll say it is an awakening, for in that way it has served an expression from the past to the present and to the future to where there shall be more of that incomplete vibration expressed to you in a more fuller understanding.
Skywriting by Word of Mouth, John Lennon
This isn't exhaustive but I think from all this it's pretty clear that John adored Stu, John grieved Stu and kept grieving Stu. Stu had a specific place in his life as a confidant that he tried to recreate with Yoko. At the time of Stu's death, he was John's best friend, probably slightly over Paul. Stuart had been able to be both a friend and paternal presence, a confidant and an artistic collaborator. His presence and loss was one of the foundational points in John's life.
But as we've been asked to play this stupid game and so many bios like to make a hoopla about it, were they at their closest ever as close as John and Paul were at their height?
No.
How do we know? Because John told us so:
" He [Paul] still is the closest friend I've ever had, except for Yoko, so I'm still close to him whatever goes on."
John Lennon to an interviewer, 1971
But Walrus! John just says shit! How do we know he isn't leaving out Stu because the press don't know Stu. Well true John does just say shit but this is at a time where John isn't the most glowing about Paul and he's had no problem mentioning Stu in this time period ('one of my best friends ever' would have made a similar point).
But Walrus again! If John picked Stu over Paul when they were young why wouldn't he be the boy bestie of all time, and why would John say that he was closer to Paul? Well, because of the environment and timings. Stu's death happened near the beginning of John and Paul's major bonding moments. If you look at their personal timeline, Paris, the Nerk twins, and getting signed happened just before Stu died. That's missing the major years of Beatlemania, Key West, LSD, Paul growing more into being John's peer and a load of other huge moments in their lives. It's like how John writes to Cyn in 1962 about wanting the house to themselves and not have Paul around all the time. Would you say because he feels closer to Cyn then that John in his overall lifetime loved Cyn more than Paul? No, because relationships change over time and theirs were no exception. (One thing to consider as well is that we don't yet have many letters between John and Paul during their Beatles years and earlier, probably because they were spending so much time with each other. We know a couple exist that Paul considers too personal for publication but I'm sure there are others. It's easy to understand what John felt for Stu as we have the letters, I think we would also have an easier time understanding what John felt for Paul if we had the equivalent of those.)
At the end of the day Paul was the man he believed he had a psychic bond with, the man he couldn’t shut up about, the man whom he’d conquered the world with with their endless collaboration, the man with a twin personality to him and according to John spent more time with throughout the 60s than he had with Yoko ever. To be frank if Paul had died in 67' I don't think this would have been a conversation.
As mentioned early, in early 1970s John elevates his partnership with Stu to his collaborations with Paul and Yoko but by 1980 he’s pretty clear that Paul and Yoko are their own category.
"I was saying to somebody the other day, “There’s only two artists I’ve ever worked with for more than a one night stand, as it were. That’s Paul McCartney, and Yoko Ono.” And I think that’s a pretty damned good choice!!"
John Lennon interview with DJ Dave Sholin, 1980
There are of course the what ifs. Would Stu still being alive mean that John was not as close with Paul? Maybe, highly doubtful though as the Beatles experience was so intense. If Stu remained a Beatle would John be as close with Paul? If Stu remained a Beatle he wouldn't be Stu so no. At the same time who knows what it would have been like if Paul and John were peers from the off? I said this to @the62ndbugsfan when it comes to Stu vs Paul (hi girl sorry i've made our chat a whole ass post lol) but to go a bit Wuthering Heights, soulmates are made as much from the earth as they are of the stars. What binds us is our experiences just as much as our personalities. There may be a universe where Stu and John took on the art world together or became inseparable bffs again after the Beatles disbanded, but it is not our universe. In this universe Stu tragically died and John and Paul chose to become Lennon/McCartney and artistically unite themselves forever.
Even going back to Stu's lifetime, I've said it before and I'll say it again I find it interesting that not only did John choose to go to Paris with Paul rather than pay to meet up with Stu somewhere but that they arranged to meet up with Juergen and nobody told Stu until they'd already gone. Stu was shocked and didn't know if it meant the end of the Beatles which is a pretty big thing for him not to know about. Why didn't John tell him if they're apparently still writing long letters? Was it because he really wanted to do this with Paul and didn't want to hurt Stu's feelings? And that's really the point I want to make here. Due to his trauma John was preoccupied with reinforcing ranking of relationships within his life. But the thing is friendship rankings are made up guidelines and the reality is far more complicated. You can have a designated best friend but feel closer to another friend at times, you can want to do one thing specifically with one friend and not the other for various reasons. You can (as I do) have more than one equal best friend. Friendship as with most relationships are in a constant state of flux and each friendship you have will give and mean a different thing, even if they are of similar value to you.
Paul may have ended up closer to John than Stu had been, but that doesen't make John's relationship with Stu any less special. Nor does Stu negate the significance of Paul. Whilst both fit into John's pattern of intense relationships and demands related to that, both had unique positions and meaning to him. Considering what I've gone into about John's closeness to Stu, it actually says something deeply, borderline unnervingly, intense about John and Paul that Paul pipped Stu to the post. Maybe it's time Beatles bios accept the fact that John Lennon just wouldn't be into them like that, stop using a tragically prematurely deceased young man as a prop in their jealous psychological warfare against Paul McCartney, stop perpetuating one of the most damaging games that John did to his loved ones and allow both relationships the space to shine and showcase the amazing talent that was the Beatles and those that surrounded them.
#if I wanted to be truly truly tin hat#I would say that Stu is the friend he recalls and still loves#but Paul is the one he loves more#but THATS TINHATTING NOTHINGs BEEN CONFIRMED ABOUT THAT SONG#I’m just side eyeing it respectfully#but don’t let the weird biographers win#don’t make two girl bosses fight like this#John had two hands you know?#john and Stu#john and Paul#really long post sorry#Submarine postbox#Ask#anon#ask me anything#Please look Stu up he’s super interesting#And more than just John’s tragic friend#Though bless him he was not meant to be a writer#That prose is PURPLE#Stu Sutcliffe

“I have tried to show you what I am,” says Barb, the protagonist of one of the most controversial short stories ever written. “I have tried to do it without judgment. That I leave to you.”
Barb comes from I Sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter by Isabel Fall, a science fiction story about gender and imperialism. It was Fall’s first published story. There was no backlog of stories to analyze, and her author’s bio was sparse. Readers weren’t given any information about Fall’s gender identity, but that didn’t stop activists from speculating. “… this reads as if it was written by a straight white dude who doesn’t really get gender theory or transition,” complained Arinn Dembo, President of the science fiction writers’ collective SF Canada. The author Phoebe Barton even compared the story to a weapon against trans people: “Think of it as a gun,” she tweeted. “A gun has only one use: for hurting.” N.K. Jemison joined in, tweeting, “Artists should strive to do no (more of this) harm.” But Dembo and the hundreds of thousands of others were mistaken about Fall’s supposed cis identity. The publisher responded to the backlash by taking the story down and posting a statement about the author’s identity. Isabel Fall was a transgender woman, and self-identified activists for trans rights bullied her so mercilessly that she attempted suicide. Dembo later adjusted her criticism, saying “a lot of people might have been spared a lot of mental anguish” if Fall had made a statement about her gender identity. Meaning, Fall had a moral obligation to out herself as a trans woman. Both of Dembo’s comments reveal a preoccupation with the author that distracts from the text. The recent obsession with author identities is one of the great failures of contemporary liberal movements. In order to win liberation for any given group, liberal activists must focus less on who speaks and more on what is spoken.
Roland Barthes’ 1967 essay The Death of the Author argued that an author’s intentions and life experiences do not make the “ultimate meaning” of their text. The author might as well “die” once the text is in the reader’s hands. The text is “a multi-dimensional space” that one cannot simply flatten with biographical details about the author. Barthes has largely been vindicated among literary critics and theorists, but his idea has not been well-received among liberal activists. It is easy to refuse to acknowledge multiple dimensions of a text. Moralistic groups like liberation movements might even be tempted to sort texts into a simple dichotomy—“good” or “bad,” without any gray areas—on the sole basis of the author’s identity. That is exactly what Dembo tried to do: she suggested that Attack Helicopter was bad simply because of the author’s (supposed) gender.
I Sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter is not a transphobic story. Although an in-depth analysis would be beyond the scope of this essay, I can confidently say that Fall critiqued American imperialism, not transgender people. I think that would be clear to anyone who reads the story. But apparently, reading a story is no longer a necessary step in the process of interpreting it. Barton—who suggested her fellow trans woman was a “gun”-wielding transphobe—had not actually read the story. Jemison also admitted she had not read the story before tweeting that it was harmful. We now have a complete reversal of Barthes’ idea: this method of moralistic interpretation is nothing less than the death of the text.
Fall is far from the only queer storyteller to face backlash for allegedly not being queer. Becky Albertalli, Kit Connor (who was still a teenager), and Jameela Jamil all came out of the closet because they were harassed for telling queer stories as “straight” and “cis” people. It is a common talking point in activist circles that the government should not compile lists of queer people or forcibly out them. Why, then, do activists engage in the same behavior? It simply is not always safe to admit that you are gay, or trans, or autistic, or epileptic, or that you have had an abortion. The reason that we need liberation movements for these groups is the same reason that people might not want to publicly claim these identities.

Hello, hello!! 🫶🏻
as a fellow Bruce Wayne lover, i decided to write about him sometimes. There is not enough content about Bruce, specifically about his earliest Batman years and the young, late 20’s Bruce era, unfortunately. It is heartbreaking to see no one is interested in writing about this gorgeous, complex man.
i’ll be writing about the random thoughts, point of views, or maybe some au’s about the certain timelines with Bruce. The Bruce that i’ll write is based upon my analysis of him since i see the internet having a crisis about the real Bruce. i do understand that there are lots of comics that are ‘canon’ to display Bruce in negative ways — it is because of the author’s version of Bruce. But that doesn't mean that Bruce is a terrible or abusive character. i really wish people could sit and dissect his psychology and write him according to what he had seen or endured. In my fiction, i’ll be working on that as much as i can. There are certain comics which are beloved to me and i mainly love them because they depict Bruce so well.
i’d really appreciate your questions, ideas, concepts, visions and any thoughts you could’ve!! You can send me a message or your prompts, promise i’ll be checking them as soon as i have time.
the real reason that i’ve mentioned on my bio that why i will be ‘writing sometimes’, it is because i do have a job and it is tiresome to manage both real and internet life. i hope you could understand my decisions! ♡
i’ll be waiting for your opinions, prompts or ideas! thank you so much, ♡
here is the masterlist! ♡ ♡

Slight sonic 3 spoilers...and also Family analysis.
Now that the movie is out and we have "concrete" (well. More like chicken wire that's gonna get built up.) evidence of where Shadow came from. Just wanted to say:
I was Genuinely Worried that Just Because they're both Hedgehogs, Sonic + Shadow would "somehow" be related. (For example, Distant uncle, both of them being Ultimate Lifeforms, or created by the Chaos Emeralds etc.) Because of emphasis on "family" in this whole series.
Also I now realize this is contrary to Everything that the movies say about Family. No one is a traditional "nuclear" family here.
Sonic + Longclaw weren't related but he still loves her. Team Sonic were all adopted.
Tom + Maddie don't need to have a bio kid to be "official", (Tom has living off screen brothers idk if that counts), Maddie has her sister and niece, Rachel + Jojo are officially a blended family with Randall.
we don't know the deal for Tails parents, Knuckles Had a father but he's gone. Maria just had Gerald, no mention of parents. Eggman was an orphan but got Gerald back...and it didn't turn out well.
The only actual blood family that shows up a lot is Wade's. And that's a mixed bag with Wendy being nice, Wanda being rowdy, + Pete being a criminal mess. So it's basically a divorced family + showing how a family can grow up but still stick together...that's maybe another reason the Knuckles series doesn't mesh as well with the movies?
And they all show that families come in different forms. That's... really neat.
#spoilers#sonic 3 spoilers#sonic wachowski#Longclaw#Tom Wachowski#maddie wachowski#shadow the hedgehog#knuckles the echidna#wade whipple#lazlo's lulls#Also didn't want to jinx it if Paramount did try to make shipping Sonic x Shadow difficult#I trust the writers because they are fans too but...you know how tunnel vision some fans get about their preferences

Shadow in the Flame
Chapter 29: Echoes of sentry
The gym buzzed with movement and effort, each strike, shout, and thud echoing against steel and glass. Morning light filtered in through the high windows, catching on sweat-slick skin and the sharp edge of discipline.
Aria Stark stood on the raised walkway above the training floor, arms folded over her chest, her dark hoodie zipped to just below her ribs. At nineteen weeks, her bump was undeniable beneath the fabric, but her posture remained stiff, unyielding commander.
Her sharp gaze swept across the team.
“Yelena, tighter footwork. You’re telegraphing your attacks like a teenager with a crush.”
“Not true,” Yelena grunted, dodging Ava’s sweep.
“Then why is Ava smiling?” Aria shot back.
Ava smirked. “Because I like being right.”
Below, John Walker blocked Alexei’s punch with a grunt and countered. Aria called down, “Walker, your stance is sloppy. Shift your weight or go home.”
John rolled his eyes. “You don’t miss anything, do you?”
“Not unless I’m choosing to,” she said, and tapped something on the datapad in her hand. “And I’m not.”
Bob stood off to the side, arms crossed, quietly observing with barely restrained energy. He watched Aria as much as the training how her brows furrowed every time someone lost rhythm, how her hand instinctively braced against the railing whenever a sharp noise startled her. She hid it well, but he knew the signs. Something was off.
After the circuit wrapped, Aria’s voice rang through the space: “Hydrate. Ten-minute break. Then drills.”
The team dispersed in a mix of groans and grudging respect. Aria turned to step off the walkway, but her balance shifted.
The metal beneath her feet seemed to ripple. Her vision flickered. Her breath caught short.
Bob was there before she could steady herself.
“Hey,” he said, low and urgent, taking her elbow. “What is it?”
Aria blinked hard, then clutched the rail with her free hand. “I don’t… feel right.”
Bob’s eyes darkened with concern. “What kind of not right?”
“Dizzy. Sharp pain low in my abdomen. It came on fast.”
Without another word, he moved. One arm around her, steady, protective. “We’re going to Bruce. Now.”
---
The medical wing was prepped by the time they arrived. Bruce Banner stood waiting, eyes immediately flicking to Aria’s pale face and the way Bob practically carried her.
“What happened?” Bruce asked as Aria sat gingerly on the examination table.
“Pain. Pressure. Dizziness,” Aria replied, every word clipped but controlled. Her hoodie was unzipped now, exposing the black tank top stretched over her bump.
Bruce nodded, already rolling over the ultrasound machine. “Let’s have a look.”
Bob hovered beside her, fingers woven through hers, silent but visibly wound tight. Bruce applied the gel and began the scan, eyes narrowing as he adjusted the resolution and contrast.
On screen, the baby appeared, small, curled, heartbeat fluttering like a distant drum.
“Vitals are present. Growth is on track…” Bruce said slowly. Then his expression changed. “But… there’s something else.”
“What?” Aria asked, too fast.
Bruce enhanced the image, toggled to a secondary filter. Faint but unmistakable—the flicker of energy patterns around the fetus.
“There’s early manifestation of abnormal bio-signatures in the neural tissue. They’re faint, but measurable. It’s not ordinary cellular development.”
Bob’s breath hitched. “It’s the serum.”
Bruce hesitated, then nodded. “Yes. It’s mimicking patterns we’ve seen in you, Bob. Not fully formed, not stable, but it’s there. Meaning… some element of the Sentry serum has been passed to the fetus.”
Aria went still.
She hadn’t moved since the word neural was spoken.
“So what does that mean?” she asked, steel just under the calm.
“It means we need further analysis, cord blood sampling, cellular mapping. Right now, we’re not seeing distress. But the child’s DNA is… reacting. Mutating in a way we don’t fully understand.”
Bob stepped back like he’d been struck. “It’s my fault.”
“No,” Aria snapped, her voice suddenly sharp. “Don’t do that.”
Bob stared at her, pain in his eyes. “It’s the serum. My DNA. My mistake.”
“You’re not a mistake,” she said, softening, just slightly. “And neither is this child.”
Bruce quietly set down the probe. “We’ll monitor closely. No missions, no stress, no exertion. We’ll get answers within 48 hours.”
Aria nodded once. “Do what you have to.”
Bob sat on the edge of the exam table, elbows on his knees, hands clutched together like he could hold the world still with sheer force.
Aria stood a few feet away, arms crossed. She hadn’t said anything in several minutes. Just… watched him. Felt him crumble in silence.
He didn’t look at her. Couldn’t.
“I’m not even human,” he finally muttered. “Not really.”
Aria’s brows lowered slightly. “Bob”
“I mean it.” His voice cracked, brittle as glass. “I’m a science experiment with a ticking bomb inside. I never should’ve let myself want this, want you. I thought maybe if I held on tight enough, if I stayed good enough, it wouldn’t touch you. But it’s in her/him now. Our baby. The serum, the instability. The Void. I gave her that. I gave you that.”
He finally looked up at her, eyes shining and wrecked.
“I did this to you.”
Aria’s eyes didn’t soften. Not immediately. They stayed hard steel forged in grief and fire.
Then, slowly, she walked toward him.
“Get up,” she said.
Bob blinked. “What?”
“Stand up.”
He obeyed out of instinct. She stepped into his space, close enough that her belly brushed his shirt, and reached for his hands. Her fingers laced through his, grounding him.
“You didn’t do this to me,” she said quietly. “You did this with me.”
“But.”
“You think I didn’t know what came with you? You think I didn’t look at the serum reports, your psychological files, and every record SHIELD had buried in their archives before I let myself love you?”
Bob stared at her. “You looked me up?”
She arched an eyebrow. “I’m a Stark. Of course I did.”
He huffed a tiny, broken laugh. But the guilt still swam in his eyes.
Aria reached up and cupped his face in both hands. “You didn’t trick me, Bob. You didn’t curse me. You gave me something real. Something no one ever offered me without conditions.”
Her voice dropped, raw and honest. “You love me. All of me. Not Stark’s last name. Not the armor. Me. And now… we have this little chaos forming inside me. Maybe she’ll glow gold. Maybe she’ll shatter planets. Or maybe she’ll just cry too loud and hate vegetables. I don’t know yet.”
“She,” he whispered.
Aria hesitated, then gave him the faintest of smirks. “I like the odds.”
Bob’s chest stuttered, like the breath had just been punched out of him.
She pressed her forehead to his. “We are going to get through this. Together. On my terms. Got it?”
He nodded, swallowing hard. “I just… I don’t want to lose you.”
“You won’t,” she said, fierce and certain.
“Even if it gets worse?”
“Then we fight harder.”
Bob choked on a laugh that was almost a sob. “You’re so much stronger than me.”
Aria smiled really smiled, just a flicker. “I know.”
He leaned into her hands like they were the only safe place in the universe.
And for the moment, maybe they were.
---
Night fell quietly over the Tower, the skyline humming with distant lights and muffled traffic below. Inside their quarters, the soft glow of the bedside lamp flickered against shadows dancing on the walls. Aria was curled on her side, face buried in a pillow, her bare midriff rising and falling with every even breath.
Bob lay beside her, unmoving, eyes wide open.
Sleep had come quickly. Peacefully.
Then… the Void.
The nightmare was as vivid as a memory.
He stood in a hospital room painted in blues and whites. Aria screamed, silent, her mouth open but no sound came. Her hands clawed at the sides of the bed, and blood pooled beneath her. A nurse turned away, her eyes swallowed by black, inky darkness spilling down her face like tears.
Then the baby was in his arms.
Too still. Too quiet.
But alive until black eyes flicked open, glowing, pulsing, unnatural. The baby stared at him with pure void.
And then the shadows screamed.
Aria reached for him, her voice finally breaking through like glass shattering. “Bob, don’t let it take me”
And then they were both gone.
The room turned to dust in his hands.
He gasped awake with a choked sob, heart pounding like a war drum. Sweat clung to his chest and neck. The air felt thick.
Next to him, Aria slept undisturbed, moonlight caressing her skin. One arm flung lazily over her head, her dark tank top had ridden up slightly, revealing the gentle swell of her stomach, peaceful, alive, untouched by shadows.
He sat up, hand hovering just above her belly.
“I'm sorry,” he whispered to the sleeping form, voice cracking. “I shouldn’t have given this to you.”
Bob slipped from the bed silently, grabbing a hoodie as he padded barefoot through the hallway and out onto the terrace. The wind was cool against his skin, grounding.
He didn’t expect to find anyone else there.
But Bucky Barnes leaned against the railing, coffee in hand like he hadn’t slept at all. His sharp eyes flicked over as Bob approached.
“You look like hell,” Bucky said without judgment.
Bob let out a shaky breath. “Thanks. You always this nice at 3 a.m.?”
“Depends. You always show up looking like you wrestled death in your dreams?”
Bob didn’t answer right away. He rubbed the back of his neck, eyes on the skyline. “It was Aria. And the baby. The Void took them from me.”
Bucky was quiet for a moment. Then he said, “That’s your guilt talking. Not prophecy.”
“You didn’t see it,” Bob muttered. “It was real. Her screaming. The blood. And the baby, God, the baby wasn’t even human anymore. It was like something wearing a child’s skin.”
Bucky nodded, slowly. “I’ve seen war do worse to good men than any nightmare.”
Bob’s voice cracked. “What if I gave this to her? What if she dies because I loved her?”
Bucky turned, finally facing him fully. His voice was steady, colder than Bob’s panic but far more grounded. “You didn’t give her a curse, Reynolds. You gave her a future. A messy one, maybe. But she chose it.”
“I should’ve known, my DNA, my serum, the Void, it was never safe.”
“And she still chose you,” Bucky repeated, firm. “You think Aria Stark makes blind choices?”
Bob barked a bitter laugh. “You really think she’s okay with any of this?”
“She’s scared,” Bucky admitted. “I see it in her posture, the way she holds her stomach like a shield. But you know what else I see? She lets you stay.”
Bob was quiet.
“That means something,” Bucky continued. “When Aria lets you close while she’s vulnerable, it’s not by accident. She trusts you. Now trust yourself.”
Bob dropped onto the bench beside the planter box, burying his face in his hands. “What if I can’t protect them?”
Bucky sipped his coffee, watching the horizon. “Then you learn. You fight smarter. You ask for help. But you don’t run. Not unless she tells you to.”
Bob looked up, eyes glassy. “I can’t lose them.”
Bucky’s voice was low but strong. “Then you don’t.”
Back in the room, Bob returned like a ghost reentering his body. He sat on the bed quietly, careful not to wake Aria.
Still, as if sensing him, she stirred. One eye cracked open, voice thick with sleep. “Bad dream?”
He nodded.
She reached out, blindly, until her hand found his and tugged it to her belly.
“Still here,” she murmured.
And he melted, forehead pressed to her stomach, whispering to the life they made together like it was the only prayer he’d ever known.
---
The compound kitchen buzzed with low chatter and the clink of cutlery against ceramic. Morning sunlight spilled across the counters, too warm for how cold everything suddenly felt.
Yelena was flipping eggs with theatrical flair while Alexei and John argued softly about something in Russian and protein-related. Ava sat curled at the edge of the table, sipping her tea with sharp eyes scanning the door.
The second Aria and Bob walked in, the room fell quiet.
They looked wrong.
Bob’s usual glow was dimmed, golden presence dulled like sunlight through storm glass. Aria trailed beside him, hoodie zipped, face unreadable but not unreadable in her usual way. This was cracked porcelain.
Yelena straightened. “Okay. What happened.”
Aria sat down stiffly at the table, folding her hands with precision that tried to mask the tremor in them. Bob didn’t sit. He stood behind her, a protective shadow with sad eyes.
“We went to see Bruce yesterday,” Aria said, voice flat at first. Her stare was fixed somewhere past the table. “To check on the baby.”
Ava put down her mug slowly. Yelena’s brow furrowed.
Bob looked like he wanted to speak but didn’t.
Aria’s jaw tightened, and then, like something inside her cracked, she exhaled shakily. “Something’s wrong,” she said. “The baby is showing signs of absorbing the Sentry serum… it’s unstable. Bruce doesn’t know how it will affect development. Or… if the baby will even make it.”
The room felt like it stopped breathing.
“I” she tried again, then broke. Her voice cracked, a rare fracture in all her iron. “I don’t know how to fix this. I don’t know how to protect them.”
Bob finally sat beside her and gently took her hand, his thumb rubbing slow circles over her palm.
“I’ve lost people,” Aria whispered. “Too many. But this… this is mine. Ours. And I don’t know if I’m strong enough to lose something like this.”
Yelena moved without hesitation, settling a hand over Aria’s forearm. “You don’t have to be strong every second, Stark. That’s why we’re here.”
Alexei nodded solemnly, uncharacteristically quiet. “You’re not alone in this.”
Ava leaned forward, eyes steady. “Whatever happens… we handle it. Together.”
Bob’s voice was low, cracked with guilt. “If anything happens, it’s because of me. My DNA. My.”
“Don’t,” Aria cut in, squeezing his hand. “Don’t carry that. We go forward. We don’t drown in blame.”
She looked around the table, tears unshed but visible in her gaze. “You needed to know. I’m not stepping down. I’m not retreating. But I’m not pretending either.”
There was no cheering, no easy comfort. Just the silence of a team absorbing pain… and silently promising to hold it with her.
Yelena passed her a napkin with a soft snort. “If this kid is anything like you, they’re not going down without a fight.”
A ghost of a smile touched Aria’s lips. It was enough to breathe again.

It took me like a year but I got a sideblog now!
My name's Tarigon. Iteratorsex is my pen name
Main is @rna-world
WATCHER SPOILERS ARE ALL TAGGED "Watcher spoilers"
I've gotten some rather off-topic asks, and while I will still answer them, I'm going to be... miffed about it. Please, my inbox is for RAIN WORLD ONLY!!
If I can't answer an ask with any amount of substance, it's going to be ignored. AND DON'T ASK FOR NSFW STUFF EITHER god. This should be common sense, but it has happened before
Anyways, here I'll primarily talk about my thoughts on Rain World, but I'll also RB stuff related to it and post art. I'll post things from shitpost art, to interesting details I want to note about the game
This account will also not involve much OC discussion, unless it's also related to the main lore. But you should still read Light On Tainted Glass, thanks
I used to do mostly iterator spec bio, and while I still love to do that, lately I've been going through madness.
As well as this, I'll talk about the game design aspects within RW and other modded regions, since that's also very fun
I have a repository for RW lore stuff here ->
And I suppose I should also pin my canon designs of the iterators. It feels fitting to go here
TAG INDEX:
beware, I'm not the most careful about this.
textadactyl - Instances where I'm the OP arterator- art tag treasury - Things I really like nma - not my art garbage wastes - shitposts rwr - things I'll add to Rain World Repo
lore - Broad Lore Discussion theory - theories shit i made up - Headcanon things not grounded in lore spec bio - Speculative biology involving iterators, slugcats, or other creatures discussion - Posts with more than 1 person involved character analysis - Discussing characters narrative analysis - Talking about the themes and... narrative of RW game mechanics - The workings of the game itself devlog - Things said by the RW developers file findings - Stuff about the game files or code mod - Involves mods screenshots - In-game screenshots

Character analysis: Naruto vs Boruto’s forgiving natures

Naruto is a kind person. But a lot of people interpret all of his actions to being foolishly kind, when Naruto really is just a traumatized & principled character that empathizes with people based off that.
Both are traumatized & principled, but have different traumas driving their actions.
Let’s examine Naruto first:

Notice, Naruto does not decide to be understanding until he draws a connection between himself and his opponent being victims of child abuse. Naruto never tried to empathize with Orochimaru, Danzo or Madara, nor had much of a negative reaction to their demise at all. Naruto also knew all 3 of them had repeatedly committed the worst sin- abused children. His biggest trauma.
Naruto hasn’t been advocating for people to escape consequences, he wanted people to atone because he understood that they were traumatized as children & never got the guidance that saved Naruto from going down their exact path. He wasn’t rly being gullible (he had nothing to lose by the time he tried talk-no-jutsu lol), kind or even forgiving- he decided no matter how difficult to stick to his principles he learned from Jiraiya. To try to stop the cycle of hatred by having people atone rather than to punish them through revenge.

Naruto’s biggest flaw though, is that he is overly blinded by his abandonment trauma- he feels he has to “save” people who went through child abuse like he did. He projects too much of his own feelings onto them- when they are their own people who won’t necessarily turn around as easily as Naruto did- which is why he lost his arm to sasuke who wouldn’t relent until beaten into submission. & (temporarily) lost his life to kawaki.
In psych terms, Naruto is trying to reinforce to himself that he was always worthy of being saved, which is what drives him to go as far as he does. It’s not really his kindness, or passion but his trauma is the way Naruto deeply connects to others.
Episode 10 of boruto NNG. This convo is not in the manga but it’s clear from the manga as well that this is how Naruto feels:

This is why Naruto struggled so much to connect with Boruto. Boruto wasn’t an abused child- thats why it seemed Naruto didn’t “care” about Boruto and Himawari as much as Kawaki. His bio kids were the first people very close to him without significant trauma for him to build a relationship on. Hima was still pretty young, & not as outspoken as boruto, so we didnt see that dynamic as much with her.
Boruto is still early in his story & has a lot more to learn. So this is as of chapter 14 of TBV.
Boruto’s current analysis:
Boruto has spent his whole life building healthy connections unlike Naruto, yet seems to have the same desire to “save” even the most “irredeemable” people. There are 2 reasons why.

Reason 1, For Boruto he is able to forgive kawaki because he understands that he’s not in a position to judge him. Boruto recognizes that he is a threat because of momoshiki, and blames & hates himself for everyone being endangered, not kawaki who is actually protecting them in his own twisted way. & now, feeling the pain of abandonment, he also empathizes with kawaki, thus forgiving him. This is how BORUTO sees it right now.

He’s also trying to make the right choices he knows ADULT Naruto would make, but adult Naruto has confronted his self hatred & knows not to take or blame everything on himself. Boruto hasn’t learned that yet, he’s willing to accept help when it’s dire, but still believes the overall burden is his alone. He has also been mainly taught by Sasuke, who still hasn’t overcome his own self hatred as much as Naruto has & desire to handle everything alone.
*boruto has actually been struggling with self hatred since getting caught cheating, that’s why he irrationally hated all ninja tech- it’s from the shame of being exposed. Self hatred is a huge underlying part of his character I could expand on later; I’m focusing on this comparison to Naruto here.
Boruto is blinded by his self hatred in the same way Naruto is blinded by his abandonment trauma. That’s why some of their actions seem so irrational, they are fueled by trauma. & These blind spots are where they both make their most costly mistakes.

That’s why he naively defied Koji’s order to escape and instead released code. He knows from Naruto he can’t do everything alone, but he lacks the wisdom to understand when/how to apply it. He should’ve relied on Koji’s advice rather than trying to plan on his own which led to a huge mistake. Code is still loose.
Reason 2, Boruto’s will is to be shadow hokage. To bear burdens for the sake of the village and people he loves. Part of bearing the burden is swallowing your pride for the greater good, which he learned from Sasuke. He’s not being kind or forgiving by saving Code. He wanted to kill the shinju ASAP before they could evolve further and needed his help.

Same with asking to train Kawaki. Kawaki’s fate is tied to both Naruto/Hinata, the EARTH & boruto’s fates. Outside of any emotional reasons, he literally cannot afford to let Kawaki die + kawaki’s unique abilities (shrinking claw marks particularly) are instrumental in defeating the shinju. & Especially now that the shinju are growing in number and in other villages, boruto cannot always be there to protect kawaki. Kawaki needs to get stronger fast for the sake of the planet.
I’m interested in the larger convo between boruto and kawaki and training him, but we’ll have to see once chapter 15 officially drops.
