Jeremiah sketch dump!

There’s the idea that Jeremiah was mentored by a fellow prophet, Zephaniah, and to find out he’s a descendant of DAVID… well that’s chaos combined. Due to his rank as a descendant of David through Hezekiah, Zephaniah may have had an easier time than most prophets as he is royalty.
But still… unless it’s Islam, ‘Prophet’ and ‘Descendant of David’ is a chaotic combo that I don’t think anyone could stand.. personality wise. Also I tried to make Zephaniah look richer and like royalty.

Anyway, onto this guy!!!! There’s actually another Uriah in the Bible that has a terrible fate, it’s this guy, another prophet (I think), did everything right but was still killed and his entire known life story is in Jeremiah 26:20-23. Gosh I feel so bad for him. Another Uriah that got a bad ending. (Luckily the bad endings stop there for the Uriah’s in the Bible tho)

And to the sketches of the man the book is actually named after (edit: he was in the Zephaniah sketch too..)
Baruch is Jeremiah’s bff and the only good scribe he knows (Lookin at you, Jonathan the scribe) and Baruch even got his own deuterocanonical Bible book! The next is based off the belief that Jeremiah was Ezekiel’s father, Buzi. Honestly I feel like the idea of Jeremiah raising the next Prophet would be kinda worrying to him because of all of the pain he went through as a prophet and he might’ve been overbearing and overprotective of Ezekiel talking with god and that might’ve let to some issues between them. Also I made a design for Ezekiel’s mom.
I think I’m reusing the teardrop earring style in my sketches 😂

The Soul who Sins will Die
31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. — Ezekiel 18:31-32 | King James Version (KJV) The King James Version Bible is in the public domain. Cross References: 2 Kings 17:13; Job 37:23; Psalm 51:10; Isaiah 1:16-17; Isaiah 31:6; Ezekiel 18:23; Ezekiel 33:11; 1 Timothy 2:4

Notes: God commands us to turn away from our own self-seeking ways in repentance. He pleads with us to turn to him with a willingness to obey his will. If we refuse, we must know we are walking the road leading to death. God longs to do the work of rebirth and renewal in us, but he demands that we turn from our destructive ways and offer our hearts to him so that we can be made new by his Holy Spirit. Repentance is to turn off the road leading to destruction and onto the road that leads to the Father's house, the place of life, joy, and salvation!

The book of Ezekiel is filled with terrifying and striking imagery. The book begins with its titular prophet being shown God’s glory in a way that has never been described before up until this point.
Ezekiel sees angelic beings with four faces and six wings, giant wheels covered in eyes, and beings consumed be fire from the waist down.
God also shows Ezekiel visions of Israel’s future, such as her princes dying, and is told of their eventual exile by the Babylonians.
But it doesn’t end there, the Lord has his servant perform odd and seemingly ridiculous tasks as a sign to Israel of their coming destruction; hog tying himself and having lie on his right side, then his left, chopping off his hair, making bread over cow dung, etc.
What does it all mean?
These are all calls to humanity to be humble before the Lord. As it was signs to Israel to repent before their coming destruction, so these things are signs to us. To repent of our sins before we face the consequences for committing them.
God makes his goal in this book very clear, to make his people fear him, like they were called to do, and call them to be humble before them. His constant statements of “I am the Lord” drive this home. This saying appears 58 times throughout the book of Ezekiel, and 72 times throughout the whole Bible.
It is also helped by the Lord referring to Ezekiel as “son of man”. While this is a title for Jesus, in this context, many believe it to be God contrasting the human condition with his glory. God is God, and Ezekiel is but a son of man.
God’s message to us could not be more clear. We must humble ourselves before the Lord. His glory is beyond human comprehension. His way’s are beyond tracing out. Time does not contain him, sin does not stain him. He is truly the only God of the universe, and he is calling us to be his subjects; to humble before his might, and to follow his will for our lives, even if it makes us look like fools to the rest fit the world.
Be humble before the Lord, follow his will. Love justice, show mercy, be quick to forgive, slow to anger, and he will make your paths straight.
God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️

Buggre Alle This: The relevance of Ezekiel
You've probably heard of the bit in the Book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament that rants about donkey genitals and "emissions [...] like those of horses" -- it's very... colourfully... phrased contemporary political commentary about the lead-up to the/a siege of Jerusalem (chapter 23, if you're really interested -- the funny bit is verses 19 and 20).
You might also know Ezekiel as the location of a 'lengthy compositor's error (if such it may be called)' in the other great publishing disaster of Messrs Bilton & Scaggs -- the extremely rare Buggre Alle This Bible, jewel of the misprinted-Bible collection of renowned book enthusiast Mr A. Z. Fell of Soho.
But what might the significance be of the "error" being in Ezekiel, of all places? Let us study it!
The Book of Ezekiel is divided into three broad sections: judgement on Israel/predictions of the fall of Jerusalem (ch 1 - 24, including the donkey genitals and the trippy wheels-and-eyes angels), judgement on other nations (ch 25 - 32) and prophecies of hope and salvation (ch 33 - 48) (source: wikipedia article Book of Ezekiel).
The "compositor's error" occurs towards the beginning of chapter 48, which discuses the division of lands north of Jerusalem, and runs as follows:
"2. And bye the border of Dan, fromme the east side to the west side, a portion for Aſher. 3. And bye the border of Aſher, fromme the east side even untoe the west side, a portion for Naphtali. 4. And bye the border of Naphtali, from the east side untoe the west side, a portion for Manaſſeh. 5. Buggre Alle this for a Larke. I amme sick to mye Hart of typeſettinge. Master Biltonn iſ no Gentelmann, and Master Scagges noe more than a tighte fisted Southwarke Knobbeſticke. I telle you, onne a daye laike thiſ Ennywone with half an oz. of Sense should bee oute in the Sunneshain, ane nott Stucke here alle the liuelong daie inn thiſ mowldey olde By-Our-Lady Workeſhoppe. @ *"Æ@;!* 6. And bye the border of Ephraim, from the east ſide even untoe the west ſide, a portion for Reuben." (emphasis mine)
The points that jump out at me are as follows:
"Buggre alle this for a Larke" is a Ye-Oldification of "bugger all this for a lark". 'Lark' in this context means 'petty/trivial game or activity', so the phrase as a whole constitutes a harsh dismissal of the current activity as foolish or pointless by the one making the statement. This applies to the typesetter's frustration with their work (which sounds pretty justified tbh), but in the context of the wider story could very easily be read as saying "bugger all this" to arbitrary divisions, such as the land portioning in Ezekiel ch48 or to the artificial divides between Heaven and Hell, or angels and demons -- and thence, by extension, dismissing Armageddon and the general celestial/infernal pissing contest for the petty nonsense that it is.
'Lark' also, of course, refers to the bird which ol' Billy Shakes contrasts with the nightingale; the lark heralds the morning, when Crowley has to slip out of the Bookshop to avoid discovery (assuming the setup here is more or less the same in the book as it is in the show) -- both the Ineffables would be more than a little miffed about having to curtail their bugg... hrrm... activities, and Aziraphale definitely says "bugger this!" to Armageddon at least partly for the sake of his lark <3
Southwark was the location of the original Globe theatre (reinforcing the Shakespeare connection above) and, at the time the Buggre Alle This Bible was supposedly published, was a major red light district (much as Soho is today). 'Knobstick' can refer to a stick with a rounded knob on the end (the innuendo might be familiar to Discworld readers in relation to wizard staffs), but is also slightly archaic slang for someone who refuses to join a trade union. Given the power of mutual aid organisations like unions to threaten or thwart tyranny, Master Scaggs being referred to as a 'tight-fisted Southwark knobstick' means he's dickhead who's stingy with money/support, frequents places traditionally deemed 'sinful' and objects to collective power. 'Scaggs' also has a similar sound/feel/texture to 'scratch', as in 'Old Scratch', or the Devil.
Mr Bilton is referred to comparatively more mildly, but 'no gentleman' is simply a rather more 'polite' way of saying pretty much what was said about Mr Scaggs, suggesting that they're not so different. It's also interesting to note that 'Bilton' is one letter different from 'Milton', as in the guy who wrote Paradise Lost, an epic poem about the War in Heaven and the Fall of Satan that could easily be read as 'written by the winners' propaganda. This all ties into the 'Heaven and Hell are equally shite' theme of Good Omens.
'By-Our-Lady' is an especially Catholic way of referring to Mary, mother of Jesus; in this context, it's being used as a not-technically-a-swearword intensifier to convey the typesetter's frustration at being held indoors by a pair of arseholes rather than being able to go outside and freely enjoy life on Earth -- neatly paralleling the Ineffable Husbands' very understandable frustration at being entangled in the manky old Heaven/Hell system that has caused and is causing them so much harm and is stopping them from being able to go out and breathe the free air (and yes, the LotR quote is deliberate -- see The Two Towers p672). The workshop could be taken as representing either Heaven or Hell.
The "compositor's error" specifically appears in the part of Ezekiel that deals with both arbitrary division of land and prophecies of hope for the future; the implication, therefore, is that casting off the tyranny of false dichotomies and selfish arsewipes will lead to brighter things to come.
In summary, the "compositor's error" and its placement in the Book of Ezekiel together form a resounding condemnation of the false dichotomy of Heaven and Hell -- condemning them as equally garbage -- and a call to cast off these falsehoods and work together to bring a genuinely bright future (along with at least two dirty jokes, one of which is a fairly direct reference to the Ineffable Sex Life as well as a nod to Shakespeare), encapsulating and reinforcing the themes of the novel as a whole.
Seriously, what Pterry does with just this one section is like Billy Shakes making three different kinds of social commentary and a vulgar joke in FOUR WORDS with the title of Much Ado About Nothing!
I doubt the 'donkey genitals' bit was a huge factor for Pterry when he was writing the novel -- unless he was an actual Agnes-Nutter-level seer, he probably wouldn't have known about the equine symbolism the Ineffables have going in the TV series (the Dirty Donkey pub, the horse statue in the Bookshop and so on), though doubtless the Ineffables are hung like horses when they feel like Efforting that way... XD
(fun side note, I worked out like 95% of this meta while I was writing it!)
@vidavalor, is there anything I've missed?

Remember in 2004 when we had an election between a "Republican" and a "Democrat" and then it turned out that they were both members of the same Skull & Bones Fraternity at YALE???
And then you have both Boris Johnson & David Cameron as members of the Oxford University secret society, the Bullingdon Club.

"Yet, when I cleansed you in your filthy lewdness,
you did not become clean from your filth;
you shall not again be cleansed
until I have satisfied my fury upon you.
I the Lord have spoken; the time is coming,
I will act.
I will not refrain,
I will not spare,
I will not relent.
According to your ways and your doings I will judge you, says the Lord God."

While the focus for this study is Ezekiel 23:8, I found myself directed to pick up a key that unlocks the understanding of other verses in the Bible, such as Revelation chapters 17 and 18. That key is none other than Hosea chapter 2. This was an amazing study that I believe you would enjoy.

The Angel Gabriel
At this time of year, Nativity plays across the world tell of the Angel Gabriel’s visit to Mary, telling her she will give birth to the son of God. The Angel Gabriel is a key figure in the Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. He is recognised as a messenger of divine will, bridging the gap between God and humanity. Gabriel appears in sacred texts such as the Hebrew Bible, the New…

In Ezekiel 23, God compares Jerusalem and Samaria to two adulterous women, Oholah (her tent) and Oholibah (my tent is in her).
(The new given to Jerusalem likely suggests that that is where God’s true dwelling place resides, not Samaria).
These two whoring women personify Jerusalem and Samaria, and their sin towards the Lord. They both belonged to God, but went after other lovers, and gave into their lust. As a result, both them and their children were utterly destroyed.
Through this parable, God compares the sin of idolatry with the sin of adultery. God is in love with Israel, and they have committed adultery against him by going after other gods and doing evil in his sight. As a result, them and their children were scattered among the nations, and their temple was destroyed.
This parable highlights two important aspects of God’s character: his love for his people, and his wrath against sin.
God doesn’t just love his people, he is completely in love with them. So much so that them worshipping other Gods is no different than adultery in his eyes. Not only that, but they bring ruin to his place of worship by putting images of other gods in his holy place.
This leads us to God’s wrath. The Lord takes no pleasure in punishing his people, but he must do so, otherwise he would not remain good. Good hates evil, and will do anything in its power to stop it. As a result, God’s holy wrath is poured out against Israel, and the temple which they have corrupted is utterly destroyed. They are scattered away from God’s holy land, and their sin with them.
This parable remains as a warning to us, to fear the Lord, and walk humbly before him. It s warning to not go after other gods (whatever that may mean to you) and honor God with our entire being (heart and soul). It’s a reminder of God’s wrath, and what awaits those who do not repent and humble themselves before him. Most importantly, it’s a reminder of God’s love for us. A reminder to not make the same mistakes as our ancestors, and thus, experience the love that God has for those who love him back.
God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️
