Okay, as a prime example of “translating idioms is hard,” in the Epistle to the Romans (12:20), Saint Paul quotes the Book of Proverbs (25:21-22). This proverb says:
If your enemies are hungry, give them bread to eat; and if they are thirsty, give them water to drink; for you will heap coals of fire on their heads, and the LORD will reward you.
If it sounds harsh or confusing, the Oxford Annotated Bible actually offers glosses of certain proverbs. The meaning of the first part of verse 22 is meant to be “undeserved kindness awakens remorse.” This is also the understanding of the most influential Church Fathers.

Notes from my reading of Proverbs (part 3):
Don’t entertain a fool, but correct him
Mind your business when you encounter a quarrel
Live life on day at a time
What goes around comes around, only God decides whether it’s in this world or the next
If you love someone, act like it
Wait on God, and you will be honored
Do not conceal your sins, but confess them and you will find mercy
Be humble when being given correction. Being stiff necked leads to destruction
Think before you speak
God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️

The Wise Woman
1 The wise woman builds her house, But the woman of folly tears it down with her own hands. 2 He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh, But he who is devious in his ways despises Him. 3 In the mouth of the ignorant fool is a rod of lofty pride, But the lips of the wise will keep them. 4 Where no oxen are, the manger is clean, But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox. 5 A faithful witness will not lie, But a false witness breathes out lies. 6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding. 7 Leave the presence of a fool, As you have not known lips of knowledge there. 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, But the folly of fools is deceit. 9 Ignorant fools scoff at guilt, But among the upright there is favor. 10 The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its gladness.
11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, But the tent of the upright will flourish. 12 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. 13 Even in laughter the heart may be in pain, And the end of joy may be grief. 14 The one who turns back in his heart will be satisfied with his ways, But a good man will be satisfied with his. 15 The simple believes everything, But the prudent one discerns his steps.
16 A wise man fears and turns away from evil, But a fool gets angry and feels secure. 17 A quick-tempered man acts in folly, And a man of evil schemes is hated. 18 The simple inherit folly, But the prudent are crowned with knowledge. 19 The evil will bow down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous. 20 The poor is hated even by his neighbor, But those who love the rich are many. 21 He who despises his neighbor sins, But how blessed is he who is gracious to the poor. 22 Will they not wander in error who devise evil? But lovingkindness and truth will be to those who devise good.
23 In all painful labor there is profit, But mere words from the lips lead only to want. 24 The crown of the wise is their riches, But the folly of fools is folly. 25 A truthful witness delivers souls, But he who breathes out lies is deceitful. 26 In the fear of Yahweh there is strong security, And his children will have refuge. 27 The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life, To turn aside from the snares of death. 28 In a multitude of people is a king’s splendor, But in the dearth of people is a prince’s ruin. 29 He who is slow to anger has great discernment, But he who is quick-tempered raises up folly. 30 A tranquil heart is life to the body, But jealousy is rottenness to the bones. 31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who is gracious to the needy honors Him. 32 The wicked is thrust down by his own evil, But the righteous takes refuge even in his death. 33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, But in the midst of fools it is merely made known. 34 Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people. 35 The king’s favor is toward a servant who acts insightfully, But his fury is toward him who acts shamefully. — Proverbs 14 | Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) Legacy Standard Bible Copyright ©2021 by The Lockman Foundation. Verse of the Day:
Proverbs 2:1-5
"My, son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out of discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God."
Proverbs 3:7
"Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil."

Watching those images of men on the moon we felt awed, a community united in feeling small in the face of the enormity of what was happening. The same thing happens when we think about space: we are but a tiny droplet in the infinity of the universe. If one tomorrow we discover that there are other forms of life out there, it will only be because God has willed it. The existence and intelligibility of the universe are not the fruit of chaos or chance but of divine wisdom, present, as we read in chapter 8, verse 22, of the book of Proverbs: "at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old." We must always persevere in our search for truth, accept new scientific discoveries with humility, and not repeat the mistakes of the past: by treading a path toward the boundaries of human knowledge it is possible to achieve a true experience of the Lord, who is in a position to fill our hearts.

"… and my delights were to be with the children of men.
Hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not.
Now therefore, ye children, hear me: Blessed are they that keep my ways.
Blessed is the man that heareth me, and that watcheth daily at my gates, and waiteth at the posts of my doors.
He that shall find me, shall find life, and shall have salvation from the Lord:
But he that shall sin against me, shall hurt his own soul. All that hate me love death."

Notes from my reading of Proverbs (part 2):
Whoever looks for characteristics that reflect God’s (righteousness, love, humility, etc.) will be satisfied as with the richest of foods
Those who trust in the Lord are kept safe
You becomes those who you spend your time with
Don’t envy those who don’t know God
Talk with those who challenge how you think
Being wise and seeking knowledge are pleasing to loving parents
Don’t charge into a situation without thinking
Love your enemies, do not rejoice at their downfall. Instead, offer compassion and love. Do not harm them, you wound their spirit by doing good until them
Men who search their own glory do not find it
God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️

Control Your Tongue
Those who talk a lot are likely to sin. Verse of the Day" Proverbs 2:6-8
"For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints."
Proverbs 3:13-15
"Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her."
