♥️Jack was custom made by your design, a nice muscular build, tall, and with white hair. You added the personality traits of kindness, teacher, and enamored. The eyes were the one thing you left up to the manufacturers design, as a surprise. You saw reviews online that they would do a really good job and make the most beautiful color combinations.

♥️When the box arrived, assembling Jack took about a day and half. Awkward limbs moving around and being installed, putting his crotch on him, to dressing him in sweats and laying him on the floor in your living room.

It was a fake email generated by him, under the guise of being sent by a coworker. Stating that for the upcoming holiday tomorrow that the whole office got the week off.

You were surprised at first, knowing that your boss usually hated to give federal holidays off already. But who were you to question time off?

Jack also went to liberties of blocking all work contacts so they couldn't reach you if you missed work. Moving all emails of your termination to the trash and permanently delete them.

♥️That whole week Jack kept you to himself in the apartment. He was the goffer of getting groceries, food, sweets to keep you content. Going on hikes and walks in the neighborhood to get some needed exercise. But social events? Going out? Jack would advise against it. Every night without fail though, Jack would have you cumming on his mouth, dick or fingers. The robot was a menace when it came to getting your pleasure out of you. He can't even explain his need to himself because it goes against all of his programming, but seeing you moaning and being so satisfied by him gave him purpose, that he was made to do this.

♥️Jack did not like that some stranger approached you like that. Setting down the coffee and to-go box of egg bagels, he comes over to you, still in shock at the news that was dropped on you. How were you going to feed yourself or pay rent? What about your savings?

♥️"Y/N, talk to me. Are you okay? What were you two talking about?" He would say calmly, but you just stared into his glowing eyes with your brows furrowed. It was him. You knew it was. He was the one who relayed that false information to you. Why didn't he notify you of work calls? Bottom line of your thoughts were that you are now handling a rebelling android. Which wasn't unheard of in the new age of having them everywhere. Public safety warned that they were dangerous and not to be trusted.

♥️You shake your head at him and try to calm yourself. "Yeah uhm, it was a coworker from my job.-" Your rise in heartbeat betrays you and Jack notices immediatly. Giving you a sympathetic look knowing you're trying to lie.

"-There's been a misunderstanding, I need to make a phone ca-" Your wrist is snatched before you could reach for your cell phone. You yelp at his touch and trying to push him away. Which makes him use his other hand to hold you close by his inhuman strength. Your body being brought into Jack's frame again, his face is indifferent to your rising panic.

Finally committing to sharing this massive metal man, still not 100% happy with the design but i'm not gonna mess with it anymore, he gets the job done. All of this is still a major WIP and i love getting outside input! -- This is my AU's take on Megatron, though currently he IDs as: DSM-16

The short of it: DSM-16 is a custom designed weapon build (specifically a shoulder mounted machine gun), commissioned by Convoy Solus within Tarn (Cybertron's primary military manufacturing district) to kickstart a line of specialty combat equipment mechs meant to withstand the harsher conditions of Cybertron's wilds. The DSM-16 model was crafted with a symbiotic host system in place, allowing the weapon to be synced with an assigned wielder, allowing for more efficiency/accuracy out in the field. The long of it:

DSM-16 has had 3 wielders/hosts prior to being assigned/bonded to Ironhide. The most recent of which, Commander Cyclonus, was offlinedmurdered while on mission. DSM-16 survived the ordeal and was brought back to Tarn to receive repairs and a new host. He is far too valuable and useful to be kept on the sidelines for long.

DSM-16's superiors/creators/owners assume he has no memory/archived storage of the events that led to the loss of his previous host due to the extent of the damage he received. They are wrong. DSM-16 is unconscious and still in the early stages of self-repair when he is reassigned to a young, almost fresh off the line Ironhide. Ironhide, despite having a fairly common vehicle alt mode amongst his peers, was manufactured to have a spark that could withstand a host/symbiotic bond. He has no field experience at the time of the bonding and is eons away from being DSM's equal in experience or skill. However, Ironhide is a soldier while DSM is a weapon. As such, Ironhide holds the authority, much to DSM's chagrin.

Through centuries of ruthless, lethal, and consistent work DSM has earned himself a solid reputation within Tarn (despite what he is). He is a revered and respected piece of equipment and as this new bond with Ironhide settles he will make use of what little leeway this reputation gives him.

DSM-16 is leashed to his creators and their whims, but with a fresh naive host and a new bitter sense of resentment, he will not be leashed for long.

Some additional fun facts:

DSM's visor is required to be lowered at all times when not within Ironhide's private quarters. He is also rarely ever seen in root mode outside of Ironhide's private quarters, as is expected of equipment.

DSM was built without a mouth, instead the area on his helm is fitted with additional vents to help with temperature control and filtration. He does have a voice box, but its rarely used (he only ever talks to Ironhide, and that can be done through the bond)

DSM has his own built in smelter, forge, and fuel refinery. He is capable of processing raw energon and creating his own ammo from raw materials/metals. This means he runs very hot and needs a larger portion of fuel to keep his systems running smoothly.

DSM-16's ID is a small part of a literal identification/serial number that is attached to his spark/bio-code. His creators have redefined this portion to stand for: Defensive Shoulder Mount - 16gauge

The name Megatron will eventually come from a series of inside jokes shared between him and Ironhide, when the pair make their eventual escape DSM will choose the new name as his first step towards reshaping his identity.

Megatron is not out to fix Cybertron. He has little to no attachment or regard for any mechs outside of Tarn's boundaries. His only wish is to put the means of production into his own kin's hands, meaning other weapon/host pairs within Tarn. He wants to overthrow the manufacturers who made him, he could care less about how the other cities handle their affairs. As such, the Decepticon cause will not exist within this AU as it typically does, if at all.

I know things just got started, and as a reader theres no way for me to tell what will happen in the future. But I'm curious -

Let's say the attraction has been open for some time now. After a few shows the attraction gets a following. The fans - being able to witness the way the Jesters behave around the Princess - have manufactured rumors building off of the romance that may or may not be blooming between the inhabitance on the balcony.

I wonder how Sun would react in these two situations:

The play-writers making a pr stunt and deeming Sun as The Princess' romantic interest. Forcing the two to act minutely romantic for the show itself (and in advertisements, like posters and commercials)

_ or _

The writers doing a complete 180 and writing that Sun has hidden distain for the Princess and her mannerisms. Giving him lines that mock the Princess' status (like Jesters in history are allowed to do).

. . . if I was one of the script writers I would definitely push for the second option. . . for chaotic reasons.

If rumours started going around that the Princess was in a relationship (or at least showing affection) to one of the other cast members, management would be quick to cover it up as ‘lore’ or try and make a PR stunt about it. Secret relationships and will they/won’t they situations make big money if they can keep make repeat customers out of the guests.

Nothing official, of course. That would be bad for business. The Princess character also occupies a niche for a specific demographic of guest, part of the intrigue of the Princess’ character is the fact she’s so mysterious with her curse—some of the guests take pleasure in trying to figure out what it is and how they can help her break it. (This is particularly popular with young girls aged 8-12 and younger teen boys)

Management is less inclined to make any lasting changes to the script, it’s still a relatively new attraction and they want to milk it for all it’s worth. But if a few lines of code get implemented into Sun’s processor that make him more inclined to act more Jester than Attendant, he’d be mortified anytime a snide comment slips past his voice box. Any and all snips would be immediately followed by a plethora of apologies, to which the Princess would be confused as to why he’s acting that way. In their mind, he’s a Jester, why wouldn’t he jest? Plus they’re not actually being insulted, the character is. It’s all for show.

You were glad that security didn’t randomly decide to stop you because they would have asked a bunch of questions, such as: why do you have a bunch of tools that look like you’re planning on building a bomb? Or sabotaging an elevator? Or driving a bus over 55 mph for most of a movie starring Keanu Reeves? Or doing some other heinous act?

And then you’d have to explain that - like a lot of musicians - you liked a particular set of pickups, and you liked replacing them yourself, and you liked your tools, and you were going to be a goblin and take them all the way from your house to your job just to do it. Would it have been easier to take the bass home and do it?

Who the fuck knows? Maybe.

But it wouldn’t be nearly as fast.

You had to stop yourself from skipping at the thought of a new instrument as you walked down the hall to the studio, where you knew your bass would be, shiny and brand new.

You walked into the recording room to find no one inside. Surprising. Unsurprising was finding your bass on the table as Maddox said he had left it.

You smiled and put your stuff down quickly, excited like a kid on christmas. You always loved getting a new instrument, and you loved pulling it apart even more.

You ripped open the box hurriedly, getting stabbed by one of the extra large staples that held it shut. But that didn't deter you since you had all your shots and tetanus couldn’t touch you. You put your finger in your mouth to clean the blood.

You pulled the bass out and turned it around. A classic Fender Precision Bass in a sparkling custom sage green color. Something sturdy for the many hours it would be played on hundreds of tracks in the future. Such a beautiful color, such lovely flecks that made it glitter in the light, you had researched for hours and already knew what it was going to sound like…

Now to take it apart.

You took your bag of bass-modding tricks out of your backpack and opened it. Whoever invented the battery powered electric drill was a genius. You revved it for no one in particular: the sound of fun. You made short work of all the screws that held the pickguard on and set them aside; you’d need them for the new pickguard you bought. You checked the potentiometers as you pulled them out of their holes on the pickguard. You were thankful that the manufacturers hadn’t cut the wires too short, since that always made them a pain in the ass when it came time to put the whole thing back together. In your mind, you thanked whoever cut the wires, what an absolute gem of an individual. The soldering looked good, that was always a good sign; nothing worse than having bad soldering come apart in the middle of playing a song.

Too bad you had to get rid of it, you smiled to yourself. A+ for soldering though, whoever did it, they had done a really good job. Nice and clean.

You took out the new pickguard you had and unwrapped it. You had actually had it sitting in the bottom of your closet for a while now since you bought it on a whim and had no bass to put it on. It was a purple faux mother of pearl number that reflected the light beautifully and would look gorgeous against the sage green body of this bass. You pulled the knobs off the potentiometers, put them through the pickguard, put the knobs back on, and unsoldered the spots where the wires of the pickups were soldered to the potentiometers. You were glad the ventilation in the room was so good and hoped that no one got mad at you for doing this. With the potentiometers unsoldered and cleaned up, you set it aside so you could fuck with the pickups. Easy peasy.

You unboxed the pickups you bought and looked them over, unwrapping the wires so they were straight and put them down. You - as carefully as you could - took the factory pickups out of the bass, and held them up against each other. There was a marked difference, you felt. You rooted in your bag of stuff for the multimeter you brought with you. You were always curious about this kind of thing: you checked the voltage of the factory pickups… 10.35k ohms, that was pretty normal. And you checked your new ones… 10.67. Little bit better. But while the magnets in the factory ones had wider diameters, the ones you bought were heavier.

You laughed to yourself. Time for it’s glow up.

Of course you were going to replace them.

Your phone, having sat on the table this whole time, inert, lit up with a message.

You laughed. Of course he had a crush on Jennifer Beals as a kid. Of course.

You got back to your bass, you were almost done.

You took the screws that came in the box and screwed the new ones into place and soldered their wires to the potentiometers. It was excruciatingly difficult to wait patiently for it to cool, you were excited to see it all put back together and be able to play it. After a few minutes of waiting, you put the new pickguard back and screwed it on. You put all the strings back, and grabbed the small amp by the wall and plugged it in: it made noise, so you were successful, now you just needed to tune it.

Whatever many minutes of tuning later, you could finally play it and played a song.

Someone knocked on the door.

Exclusive Interview with Retro-a-go-go's Doug P'Gosh; Interviewed about EC Comics products!

Chet Reams: Tell us at Crypt of MADness a bit about yourself to start off:

Doug P'Gosh: I’m an artist, illustrator and product designer. My full time job is working with my wife, designing products for Retro-a-go-go! I also design products such as statues and tiki mugs for Tiki Farm, Munktiki, Disney and others. Finally, I try to paint and draw every day and I love creating portraits of classic Hollywood stars and alternative movie posters for films. I’ve had a number of my illustrations licensed and released for Lucasfilm and Warner Brothers. I’m very lucky to live a very full, creative life. And when I’m not working, my wife and I like to travel and haunt antique shows and stores, where I always keep an eye out for old ECs among other things. A couple of years ago I found a nice copy of a vintage Weird Science for $10! Miracles can still happen!

Reams: Fill us in on Retro-A-Go-Go, the business!

P'Gosh: Retro-a-go-go! was started nearly 21 years ago by my wife, Kirsten. At the time, she was feeling pretty burned out by her corporate marketing career. She wanted a new challenge and to work for herself and to build her own business. She took a $100 investment and created a bunch of necklaces at our kitchen table. She utilized my collection of old 1920’s and 30’s film magazines, printing the covers at a miniature size and creating a fun product. She took a table full of the jewelry and some other items she created to a Rockabilly/Car show and quickly sold out of them all. She was off to the races after that. Belt buckles, t-shirts, wallet cases and business card cases, flasks and more all with retro related, fun, humorous images. 

I had my own corporate product design job at the time and after about 7 years of my wife growing the business, I left my job and joined her as a full time product designer.

About 8 years ago, we were feeling like the company needed to go in a new direction. We were no longer inspired to create more of the same types of products and then our factory for metal work closed. Around this time, I was developing a new product using vac form plastic to enlarge old Halloween masks from the 1960’s and 70’s into 2 foot tall giant wall decorations. We pretty much poured our last bucks into getting a series of wall décor masks manufactured for us. 

The first few days after we introduced our new Horror Décor, the line was met with indifference. Our present customer base just wasn’t looking for what we had created. But by some miracle, Pee Wee Herman saw our designs, blogged about them and his own 1980’s Pee Wee Halloween costume and our sales exploded overnight. Since then, we’ve created thousands of Halloween, Christmas and monster related vac form and other products. We’ve licensed with Universal for the Munsters, Mars Attacks, General Mills Cereal Monsters and more. We’re now a collectibles and décor company that creates products for people that are looking for something different from what you find in every big box department store.  The unique, different and unusual- as long as we have a passion for the product, we’ll create it. If we like it, we figure we’ll have customers that like it too. We’re usually right.

Reams: What initially led Retro-A-Go-Go to start producing officially licensed EC Comics merch?

P'Gosh: That was me. I pushed to get the license. I loved the comics since I was a kid and thought there was room for the kind of products that we can create. And I loved the idea of contributing to the EC legacy- if only in a small way.

Reams: Did you read EC Comics (reprints or originals) growing up? If so, what was your initial take-away from them?

P'Gosh: I have thought of this question a lot. It’s a bit fuzzy as to when I first was introduced to EC…or rather the artists I love so much that drew for EC and MAD. My Dad was in his early 20’s in the 1950’s, so I know I remembered him talking about “Tales from the Crypt”. But I think I found my way to EC through MAD. First it was the magazine, then someone gave me “The Brothers MAD”, the paperbook reprint of the early comic book MAD. I think that had the Wonder Woman parody in it and I couldn’t get enough of Bill Elder’s drawings. I was hooked. And that sent me down the rabbit hole of chasing down the early MAD comic books. First with the stitched in reprints, bound into the MAD Super Specials. Then it was discovering Jack Davis, Wally Wood and the rest of the gang. Then somewhere around that time (this is the late 1970’s/early 80’s and I’m in grade school) I was really into the Warren Magazine re-prints of Will Eisner’s the Spirit. In the back was an ad for the re-print set of EC comics. All of them for one price. Once those came in the mail and I got a taste of the EC line, it really demonstrated how great comics could be, as opposed to the stuff that was in print by the big houses DC and Marvel. The more EC I could find, the better. I loved the horror stuff, but the War and Sci-fi lines were fantastic too. All these years later, I have a stack of EC originals and a shelf full of various reprints, from the Cochran volumes to the recent GIANT Taschen book.

Reams: Fill us in on the EC Ghoul-unatics bust/sculpture of The Old Witch (which is currently up for pre-order on Retro-A-Go-Go)…

P'Gosh: Our first big EC intro was the “Tales from the Crypt” ornament set. Those sold out pretty quickly after we received our shipment, so we knew there is a passionate audience for the product. But I wanted to do more with the Ghoul-unatics. Last year we started a line of 5.5” Creep-tastic statues. They’re affordable, highly detailed mini statues of classic monsters and Halloween related characters. We started with Lagoon Creep, our version of the Creature, and then introduced the Trick or Treat Devil Creep, which is an homage to classic kids' Halloween costumes.  I really wanted to introduce the EC mascots in this series, and worked up a number of sketches. I landed on poses and looks that I thought captured the look of the Ghoul-unatic AND the artist that was most famous for each. The Old Witch is closely associated with Graham Ingels, of course. My personal design sensibility with these monsters is to have fun with their looks and proportions, while keeping the essence of each character. As I mentioned, I grew up on MAD and the over-sized head and hands and feet are inspired by all those years of reading the magazine and loving the art and artists that created the work.

Reams: What was the design process for the EC Old Witch piece … 

P'Gosh: Once we had drawings we were excited about, we submitted them to the licensee. Happily, they were as excited about the concepts as we were. The next step is to create digital sculpt and when the sculptor saw the drawings and was supper excited to work on the designs, I knew we were onto something great. Once we create a digital sculpt, it’s sent to the factory for creating a sample. I take my drawing and work on a detailed color break and indications as to how we want the finished sample to look. Some weeks later, we see photos of a painted sample, where we then make changes and adjustments. A few weeks after that, a revised sample is shipped to us for photography and promotion.

Reams: I am assuming from the design sketches you shared on the Facebook group “EC Fan-Addict Club” ..; That is, I’m assuming that there are also a Crypt-Keeper, and a Vault-Keeper in the works for this particular line of products?

P'Gosh: Yes, that is the plan. Our hope is to  give a 3-4 month lag between introducing the next Ghoul-unatic. We’ll probably start sculpting the next one in a couple of months.

Reams: What about Drusilla, the fourth EC Ghoul-unatic? Will she have an item in this series?

P'Gosh: I hadn’t considered her yet. I’m not sure she would lend her good looks to having her head oversized to match the rest of the mascots… let's say the jury is out on her at the moment.

Reams: Are there any plans .. plans to produce items of the new EC Comics horror hosts for EC/William M. Gaines Agent, Inc? The various new EC comic book titles (that Oni Press has been co-publishing with EC Comics), that is?

P'Gosh: Our present license does not include those characters. The new EC line came along after we had our agreement, so there’s no plan for that at this time. But never say never!

From Bedfordshire to Brooklyn, USA, for DeVore Fidelity Visit!

So Wendy and I are just back from a 2 week trip to the States to see Bruce Springsteen play on the beach in his adopted hometown ‘Asbury Park’ then we flew out to Tennessee for our first Nascar race but in-between those 2 amazing experiences we had 1 spare day and I couldn’t think of anything better to do than drive over to Brooklyn to visit DeVore Fidelity so I sent John DeVore a quick mail to see if he was around and he was more than happy to accommodate us, to say I was a little excited to visit him was an understatement as his speakers really have been a bit of a revelation to me over the last couple of years.

We actually hired a bit of a tank whilst in Asbury as there was a few of us to shuttle around so driving that into Brooklyn and its busy roads was a bit daunting but Wendy was behind the wheel so we had nothing to worry about, most of the time.

DeVore Fidelity is based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard which dates back to the 1800’s and was used to build America’s fleet of fighting ships for over 150 years, it is certainly a pretty cool place to be located.

As you can imagine this is a pretty big place but security pointed us in the right direction, we took the elevator up to the 5th floor and then wandered around the corridors until we found unit 510 where DeVore Fidelity are located where we were welcomed by John and his gorgeous cat Roxy.

DeVore have recently expanded and now seem to have plenty of space although I am sure this will all get filled up pretty quickly as they continue to be ever popular, John showed us round where you really do get to appreciate just how special these speakers really are where you see them being hand assembled by the DeVore team, there really are no production lines here, every pair of speakers are lovingly hand assembled then tested before heading to their new homes.

We were then taken next door to meet Anthony who’s business, Box Furniture Co., manufactures the stunning cabinets for DeVore Fidelity, John told us that he and Anthony partnered up many years ago when he was unhappy with his previous supplier, Anthony was a DeVore customer and a woodworker so it seemed like the perfect opportunity and they have worked closely ever since, when you see the quality of the cabinets, especially the front baffles on the O/96’s and above you can really appreciate Anthony’s work, he really is an important part of DeVore’s success.

We were joined by Roxy, We only listened to vinyl which was 100% fine by me, John started by choosing a Mono recording, I really should have taken more notice what he was playing but I was so excited I totally forgot, but the realism in the vocal was incredible, totally captivating, then we moved over to a stereo pressing where things really opened up and the sense of scale was like nothing I had heard before.

Then I asked John if he had any Radiohead vinyl, silly question as he had everything they had ever released on vinyl, I was keen to try something we knew well and Wendy’s favourite track ‘How To Disappear Completely’ really is great track that can fall flat or come alive on different systems, I let Wendy take the hot seat for this as she knows it better than me, she looked totally lost in the presentation and at the end confidently said it was the best she had ever heard it.

With the O/Ref’s you get that realism and scale that people who are familiar with the O/96’s love so much but even more so and with the powered bass boxes you really do get the full picture of any recording as obviously they go really low which underpins the mids and highs beautifully, I can honestly say I have never heard such a natural and engrossing presentation, the size of the image was ridiculous, it really is one of those systems that makes you want to revisit all your favourite music as It will be like you really are hearing it for the first time.

We listened to a few bits more but couldn’t stay too long as we had to get back to pack for a flight early the next day but what a great visit, John was really lovely and accommodating with his time and it just made me even more excited for when we get our O/Reference’s in HFL, I am planning on putting together a very special system built around these, once here and run in John will be coming over for a DeVore Fidelity open day so watch this space as that will be a very popular open day.

So we said our goodbyes and headed back to Asbury Park so happy that we took the opportunity to visit John and his team whilst out in the States.
