The Cloud Streaming Revolution: What to Expect at NAB 2025
With NAB 2025 just weeks away from transforming the Las Vegas Convention Center into a technology showcase, cloud streaming innovations are positioned to take center stage. Industry titans including AWS, TVU Networks, Amagi, and MainStreaming are preparing to unveil technologies that could redefine broadcasting's future landscape. Let's examine the key trends and developments industry insiders anticipate at this year's pivotal event.
Hybrid Architecture: The Best of Both Worlds
The most compelling narrative expected at NAB 2025 is the sophisticated evolution of hybrid infrastructures. The industry discussion has matured beyond simply comparing cloud versus on-premises solutions to exploring strategic integration of both approaches. This shift demonstrates a deeper understanding of balancing cloud flexibility with the practical demands of broadcast operations.
TVU Networks' expanded TVU Partyline platform illustrates this hybrid philosophy by combining cloud-based guest management with on-premise routing for precise synchronization. Their TVU RPS Hybrid solution, which pairs cloud servers with 5G transmission technology, has proven invaluable for complex live event coverage. Similarly, AWS Elemental MediaLive is expected to showcase enhanced integration capabilities with on-premises hardware, enabling broadcasters to dynamically scale resources during high-demand periods while maintaining control over time-sensitive processes.
Industry research revealing 63% of enterprises now utilizing hybrid models (up from 41% in 2023) indicates this approach will continue gaining momentum as broadcasters optimize their operational balance between cloud and physical infrastructure.

AI Transformation in Live Production
AI integration within cloud streaming workflows continues to advance beyond fundamental automation. TVU Networks' AI Producer has demonstrated practical applications in sports broadcasting, while AWS's latest AI suite enables sophisticated highlight generation and contextual ad placement. MainStreaming's CMCD+ analytics engine shows promise for real-time performance optimization, with preliminary testing indicating substantial reductions in playback interruptions through intelligent encoding adjustments.
The Latency Challenge
Interactive applications including sports wagering and live commerce continue driving demands for minimized latency. Multiple providers are expected to showcase solutions addressing this critical challenge, with TVU Networks' Partyline platform achieving 4K remote integration with sub-200ms latency when integrated with industry-standard production tools. Zixi's systems have demonstrated similar capabilities across global AWS regions, establishing new benchmarks for end-to-end delivery performance.
Specialized Market Solutions
The industry is experiencing increased development of tailored solutions for specific market segments. These include customized workflows designed for religious broadcasting, educational institutions, and government applications. This specialization trend reflects market maturation, with providers addressing unique customer requirements rather than offering generic solutions.
Persistent Industry Challenges
While cloud solutions promise operational savings, implementation complexities remain. Unpredictable data transfer costs continue challenging operators of large-scale live events. Security represents another ongoing concern, with content protection systems becoming increasingly sophisticated in response to escalating piracy threats. Despite SMPTE 2110's growing adoption, interoperability issues persist, with many broadcasters maintaining parallel SDI infrastructures due to compatibility concerns.
Democratizing Broadcast Technology
Cloud technologies are making professional-grade broadcasting tools increasingly accessible to smaller operations. Solutions offering high-quality WebRTC streaming at competitive per-stream costs represent significant technology democratization, creating new opportunities for content creators at every scale.
Looking Forward
The broadcast industry approaches what might be described as "the end of the beginning" for cloud live streaming. The technology has progressed beyond experimentation to become a fundamental broadcasting component. The innovations and announcements expected at NAB 2025 will likely define the next phase of broadcast evolution.
Success in this dynamic environment will depend on effectively combining traditional broadcast reliability with cloud flexibility. Content creators and broadcasters must prepare for a future that leverages cloud infrastructure and AI enhancement while maintaining the quality standards audiences expect from professional broadcasts.
As the industry converges on NAB 2025, cloud live streaming has clearly evolved beyond basic content delivery to enable more engaging, interactive, and personalized viewing experiences. The technologies anticipated at this year's event suggest broadcast innovation will continue accelerating, creating new opportunities and challenges for industry participants across all levels.

Philo Farnsworth, who invented electronic television, was disheartened by its applications, believing it hadn't met his educational goals. But on July 20, 1969, while watching Neil Armstrong's moonwalk live, he told his wife, "Pem, this has made it all worthwhile."

The funny thing about how powerful Beyong the eight ball! Vox is is that Alastor is technically still way more powerful cause without radiowaves, none of his shit can work. I feel like if Alastor really wanted to he could shut down all of the city for a moment just to fuck with Vox's head more than he has already like, Meet your match Vox, meet your match
Vox definitely wasn't expecting to feel a signal as powerful as Alastor's. Just the fact that it was able to reach out and connect with his network came like an electric shock. Imagine someone reaching into your body and physically touching one of your nerves, out of nowhere, on a boring, random Tuesday, and then disappearing in thin air.
He is shook.
Vox's power is centered in electricity and technology, but he still relies on radiowaves for his content. Alastor's power is centered in the radiowaves themselves, but his power works through technology. No matter where these two go, or what universe they're in, they'll always be connected to each other on the basis that their powers are constantly feeding back into each other.
And that's the beauty of StaticRadio.

Alastor would love to have a computer because while he still thinky vinyl is the superior medium for music he can't deny that it's more effective to have a digital music library.
He could also built a computer easily, the hardware is no problem for him.
Unfortunately he stopped keeping up with programming in the 60ies, there was just so much going on. And now he can't get any software that is not in some way connected to Vox he doesn't want to admit it, because he's the radio demon, this frivolous digital technology is beneath him, but there is a little part of him that is pissed about it.
Definitely pissed.
And in no way whatsoever melancholic, reminiscing of a past when he and Vox would build them together, Alastor working on the hardware and Vox doing the software.
A past where such actions were meant to be a pleasant hobby, a nice way to pass the time and not a commitment to an unreliable lifestyle that chained itself to whatever new trend arose.
No, he could never miss this old flight of fancy. But he can admit, that he misses the old Vox. His old chum used to be a nice company rather than a persistent annoyance.

what's like a good/useful thing to send to a loved one who has recently lost a family member? like at the shivas I've been to there's always an excess of desserts (just an example, its not for a jewish person in this case if that makes any difference regarding traditions/expectations) so I don't think I want to send baked goods.

What kinda kills me is that living Alastor would definitely have known what a television was -- the technology is taking great newsworthy leaps during the late 1920s, and more importantly broadcast television today still relies on radio signals to transmit. Television merely became mainstream media after Alastor's death and eventually overtook radio in popularity.
The programming genres between the two were similar to each other. News, dramas, comedies, soaps, talk shows, politics, religion, game shows etc.
What sets modern television apart from what Alastor knows of radio is that TV is now reliant on 24/7 programming (24/7 radio was a rarity when Alastor was alive), the rise of cable/satellite/streaming television, and the death of long format music television...
Which considering the first video played on MTV was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles, the inverted version of which becomes the title of the 2nd episode...w

His name is Oscar :) Mostly does touchups + special effects to liveaction stuff but makes his little cartoons on the side. Probably more Fantasmagorie than Steamboat Willie though.
This is cribbing from my longass reply to that ask I got a week ago about technology levels in Sorneith but - I am honestly surprised and thrilled that we got a TV vista given how staff keeps saying that Sorneith is at 1920s technology levels. Technically television existed in the 20s but it was pretty crude and definitely not widespread. I guess time is moving on!
In my lore at least television mostly isn't a thing - infrastructure in Sorneith is spotty at best due to a lack of interflight cooperation + lack of intraflight coordination + generally hostile geology where anything that isn't supervised constantly is prone to getting hit by lightning or set aflame by a volcano or stomped by Luminax. Even radio coverage can be unreliable in a lot of areas, and it's common for stations to be run by individuals or small groups with no real oversight or coordination. The SSMC has a broadcast wing with stations in Fire, Lightning, and Ice and they are constantly dealing with yahoos trying to bust in on their frequencies.
Where it does exist, it's used as a tool for public announcements and government news. Monitors are set up in public places and you have to go out to see the broadcast. Only very wealthy or very important dragons would have their own sets. This mostly happens in Arcane territory, which is relatively urbanized/has a semi-functional central government, as well as having high levels of ambient magic to power everything. It is exclusively cable, however - that high magic level also causes crazy interference with any kind of broadcast. Part of the reason they have this system is because local radio gets really messed up.
Which is to say, dragon TV shows are either like "Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Take Cover" or CSPAN (OculusSPAN?). Not that exciting, unfortunately.
Hypothetical fun Sorneith would have reality TV with the deities though.
