thinking about the slightly differing accents in 12 throughout the eras and classes. how in lucy gray’s era, most people, seam or merchant (as far as i can remember idk don’t retcon me) have that classic appalachian twang. how haymitch and katniss both grew up in the seam, but haymitch refers to his parents as ‘ma’ and ‘pa’ whereas katniss uses the more formal mom/mother and dad/father.

it makes me feel like the merchant / upper class has made an effort to speak more proper, hold some kind of ownership over being slightly higher up, etc. or it’s just naturally ingrained in them. and as a kid, katniss would go between both. she has that charming drawl but picked up her mother’s words, but asterid wouldn’t be too surprised to hear “cake with the cream” falling from katniss mouth. maybe i’m making something out of nothing idk but it’s a cute katniss tidbit to me !!
