All things considered, Mickey had lived a good life. Mickey, who up until around ten went exclusively by Michael, had never been the most social kid. Wide-eyed and curious, it wasn’t that he had no desire to talk to the other kids around his age, but more that his mind was always preoccupied by other things. He had inherited a very special talent that both of his parents shared, so while most kids in school were playing tag or kickball on the playground, Mickey often found himself huddled in the corner and happily chatting away to himself. At least, that’s what all the other kids and teachers saw. An overactive imagination or inclination to talk to himself had been what most teachers whispered to each other. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t make him very popular with the other kids in his class. In truth, Mickey had occupied himself with other friends, other kids who told him about when they had gone to school here many years ago. 

His parents had called him a medium, explaining to him from a young age that his abilities made him special, unique, different. Different was hardly ever popular, but it sure was important. Mickey’s parents, Amelia and Felix Hart, were like him, but they referred to themselves as exorcists instead of mediums. Not all ghosts were friendly, they would explain to him, and it was their job to make sure that people were protected from the bad ones. Someday, they’d teach him exactly what that meant. Mickey had never quite understood that. The ghosts were his friends. They talked to him and played with him when others wouldn’t. When nobody else understood Mickey, they did. As it turned out, ghosts weren’t the only thing Mickey needed to worry about. 

Mickey knew the night was different than others when he met the boy that had been brought to his house. Unlike the others that he had met before, this boy was very real. Flesh and bone. His parents had warned him that he was anything but. Something evil was using the young boy as a puppet. Something that his parents needed to get rid of. 

It only took one mistake. A mistake by his parents for leaving the boy unguarded. A mistake by Mickey to sneak in and talk to the boy. A mistake to let the boy get under his skin and convince Mickey that his parents had made the biggest mistake of all by bringing the boy here.

By the time the demon had finished, Mickey was alone in his house. Even at ten years old, Mickey knew it had been a cruel punishment from the demon to leave him alive and alone and completely broken. Physically and mentally. He spent weeks in the hospital. Enough time isolated and hooked up to wires to convince himself that this had all been some cruel delusion. The ghosts really had been his imagination. The boy in his house had been some lunatic, not a demon. Worst of all, his parents showing up at that hospital room were nothing more than Mickey’s own guilt manifesting itself. 

So he ignored them. He shut them all out. At the group home, he finally made a real, living friend. Someone he could touch and others could see. Sure, the ghosts persisted, but he had gotten pretty good at shutting them out. Things were going to be different. 

By mere coincidence or stroke of luck, Mickey was in the right place at the right time and met the Hartmann’s. The adoption was imperfect and required a lot of adjustment to the way he was used to living life. But he found a new family in them and was finally ready to move. All things considered, Mickey had lived a good life. But there were a lot of ghosts in Wicked’s Rest, and they were getting harder and harder to ignore.

OTHER INFO:

One of the few things that actually got Mickey outside and talking to people as a kid was hockey. He loved the sport and he constantly told his parents of his plans to play in games like the ones on TV someday. Mickey’s injuries following his parent’s death ruined that dream, but he kept playing for fun and now coaches a team in his free time.

Mickey commonly wears large, noise-cancelling headphones. They’re the most reliable way to tune out ghosts that realize that Mickey can see and hear them. Unfortunately, this comes at the cost of his sense of hearing and can make Mickey a bit clueless out in the wild.

The nickname Mickey was given to him by a close friend that he made while in the group home. He has refused to go by anything other than the nickname since. 

The combination of the group home and his refusal to speak to ghosts did actually benefit his social life. He became much more outgoing. While he tends to keep people at an arm’s length and has trouble making deeper connections, he can small talk with the best of them. 

Mickey majored in sports medicine and has dreams of becoming a team physician post residency. It is his way of staying connected to the game that he once hoped to play for.

The incident with the demon ruined his chances at hockey. While he has mostly recovered, excessive exercise or physical exertion can cause his limp to return.

Update on those Beatles movies cast rumors as a fan found Charlie Rowe's public Spotify page and he's got a "George" playlist full of George Harrison's solo and Beatles music!!! 😀 It was created 3 weeks ago too, which is also around when The Hollywood Reporter first posted how Paul Mescal was who Sony was trying to get to play one of the Beatles as well. Charlie also has playlists for his past roles too. So it's looking more likely the castings are real, and as a George girl seeing Charlie did this makes me even more happy and excited to see these. ETA: He's hidden it now from Public but it was visible just a few hours ago. LOL
