In Episode 6, Chapter 5, the English has Moby mention that the Gala is at the end of August, when the fourth years return. The implication is that he was cursed prior to March 2024, due to Nicolas saying Yuri wouldn't recognise him nor would Jiro. March-April, 2024 is roughly when multiple events related to the Clash occurred, including transfers, so it is likely that it happened before this point, as it would prevent him and Yuri from meeting. As for Jiro, we don't actually know when he was woken from his coma, so… shrugs. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [6] This one is kinda a doozy. Multiple moving parts place the prologue in 2024. To begin, in Episode 15, Chapter 27, there is a Suspicious Person Report filed on July 10th, 2021. In a subsequent chapter, Chapter 29, Haku discusses the disappearance of Yu Kunishige, who vanished five years ago. Following this disappearance, her father kills himself a year later, and becomes the Unknown Caller anomaly. He is a newer anomaly (also mentioned in Ch27) compared to the other ghosts. Assuming the Unknown Caller is already an anomaly (given that he knows Hanao Numata and was not asking about Yu, as reports said he would do when he was alive), this means Yu vanished no later than 2020. And, if Yu vanished in 2020, and her father killed himself in 2021, that would place Episode 15 in 2025, given that Chapter 5 has Zenji mention it is almost blossom season (Blossom season occurred in Late March) and MC explicitly say it is March. This matches up with Episode 14 taking place in February, and Episode 13 taking place in December.

Furthermore, in Episode 16, Chapter 11, Ritsu mentions it has been 266 days since Sinostra was placed on Probation, which would place that chapter in May. It can't be 2024 at the time of that statement because it was a leap year, and it would mean his count is off by one. It can't be earlier either, because of the aforementioned Yu Kunishige issue. That issue is also why it can't be set in the future; if it is 2026, for example, Yu disappeared in 2021, and her father would be looking for her when the report is filed. Similarly, if it was 2027, there would be no report to file, as Yu would not have disappeared at the time of its filing. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [7] Considering how many Clash related events take place in March or April (which is halfway through the school year), it is unfathomable that it wouldn't take place in 2024. Could it hypothetically take place in 2023? I guess so. But there's no reason for there to be a minimum 3 month gap between major events. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [8] MC speculates in Episode 5, Chapter 31 that Zenji's death happened during the Clash. Haku also states that he died during the 'thick of [all the problems last year]', so it was Likely around the Clash era. Zenji also didn't know the gala was cancelled, as that happened after he died. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [9] In Episode 3, Chapter 11, Haru mentions it took him six months to learn Jabberwock's ropes, and later on in Episode 16, Chapter 8 that Haru transferred suddenly, so it was likely in the middle of last school year. However, horrifically, while the English says it took 6 months for him to learn the ropes, the word he uses in Japanese is 半月; half a month. Further investigation into Kansai-ben shows no special other meaning, so... Um. Yeah. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [10] Episode 2, Chapter 26 Leo mentions that Tohma was in Vagastrom until the middle of last school year, which would put it Vaguely In March. This more or less aligns with the Clash. In Episode 1, Chapter 1, Yumiko and another Frostheim student gossip briefly, and mention that people believe Tohma had something to do with Yuri's transfer. I placed them roughly around the same time therefore, but it is totally possible Yuri's transfer happened Earlier or Later.

[11] In Episode 4, Chapter 10 Ritsu says Taiga became Captain approximately half a year ago. Given that it is October, six months earlier would be April, though as always it could be March that he transfers, given the sheer amount of Clash-specific issues that happen around this time. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [12] Episode 9, Chapter 5 has Kaito reveal that Romeo has been hunting him for half a year at the time of saying that. Once again, given that it is November, and given that the Casino opens roughly around April, and given that Kaito also mentions he didn't see Romeo prior to this, it would make sense that this starts around May. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [13] Once again, Episode 15, Chapter 25 has Haku say he was in Frostheim for a full year before transferring again. Since he is in Hotarubi and seemingly well adapted to it by the beginning of the story, he likely transferred sometime in July or August. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [14] Multiple mentions to when Dionysia became defunct occur, namely Episode 5, Chapter 2 (where it is mentioned they closed last school year) and Episode 16, Chapter 5 (where it is reiterated that Dionysia became defunct at the end of last school year). In the English script, Elias mentions in Ep16 Chapter 7 that Dionysia has been Abandoned for six months, however the JP says that it went defunct Over six months ago, meaning it is still reiterating that Dionysia has been out of commission for quite some time. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [15] Another assumption that this is a yearly event that always reoccurs at the same time every year. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [16] In the Prologue, Chapter 1 it is 7:13pm when MC is on the train coming back (based on timestamps from her group chat). However, in Chapter 3 (and reiterated again in Chapter 4), it is suddenly daytime after MC is cursed. When it is daytime, it is known to be September 4th, and morning based on how much happens during the Prologue in one day, meaning it is likely MC was cursed on September 3rd, and Kisaragi Station OR Kyklos caused time discrepancies.

Another more unhinged reason is that the prophecy says the Whisper of the New Moon would lead the Champion to the isle. In 2024 in Tokyo, the new moon for September occurred September 3rd, roughly around 11pm. Does this moon chart line up with anything else? No, basically just this. However it's a neat coincidence regardless. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [17] In Episode 4, Chapter 21, Kaito says he bet September 5th of that year to the Oblivion Dealer. Later in Chapter 29, he says it was the day after the entrance ceremony, meaning that the entrance ceremony took place September 4th. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [18] Not only does the dates line up with the days that pass throughout the chapters, MC also has the option to bet September 8th of that year in Episode 4, Chapter 24, which is mentioned as the Celebratory Ball in Frostheim. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [19] Once again, Episode 4, Chapter 24 allows MC to wager September 19th, noting it was the Vagastrom undercover investigation where they first used the Fox Robe. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [20] Once again, Episode 4 Chapter 24. [21] In Episode 6, Chapter 34 Edward says it's the full moon that night, which is important for the purpose of reiterating the moon thing is likely a coincidence, given that the full moon for October when this chapter occurs is October 17th, which is genuinely impossible for Obscuary to reach, given that this is the fourth day for Obscuary's investigation, and there's a minimum 3 days timeskip between the end of Hotarubi, which is already a week, and Sinostra ends October 10th. Womp womp. ━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━ [22] Interestingly enough, in Episode 5, Chapter 9 Moby mentions needing money by the 25th of the month to pay for a ticket to an exclusive stream, which lead me to believe this is when it takes place. However, the Japanese script says he needs it by the 25th of next month. So shrugs. Speaking of phoning back home, Cheka keeps lines of communication with his family open! He’s constantly calling or writing to say hi or to give life updates. Boy can yap for what seems like forever, which deeply annoys Leona, but makes his parents gush about how excitable he is.

He’s the bane of most of his classmates’ existence. His cheer and boundless energy alone are annoying enough to deal with, but he’s also got a cocky streak to him. Cheka frequently boasts about how he’ll be king someday and speaks passionately about these lofty, grand ideals he has. It gives the impression that he doesn’t fully understand the weight of his crown quite yet.

His ego has him stupidly challenging his dorm leader like every other week for the seat. Cheka always gets his ass handed to him, but that doesn’t stop him from getting back up and trying again!! His dorm members think he’s reckless, but they have to admire his tenacity.

Cheka’s a “go with the flow” kind of guy. If something goes wrong, he’ll let it slide or shrug it off. He lives by this motto from his home country… Hakuna matata! Ever heard of it? It means “no worries for the rest of your days.” Unfortunately, this also means he had a tendency to run away from problems rather than attempting to solve them. This has earned him no shortage of ire from staff and fellow students alike.

He’s not very interested or gifted in academics; Cheka has a habit of getting distracted in lectures and cutting classes in favor of going on what he calls “adventures” into unknown nooks and crannies on campus, especially the forbidden areas. He’s too curious not to! “Danger?” Cheka barely bats an eye. “I laugh in the face of danger.”

He likes to eat grubs and other bugs in his food, claiming that they “taste like chicken” and that they’re an excellent source of protein. Cheka’s adventurous stomach has made him infamous on campus; he’ll sometimes receive dares to try out strange food concoctions (chocolate milk, corn, and jello was a recent one), which he’s always up for.

Cheka is not as good at magift/spelldrive as he would like (despite pestering his uncle to coach him). He also weirds his classmates out whenever they’re playing a sport and he tries to rally them to do a group chant.

A proud member of the Pop/Light Music Club!! He’s great at improvising lyrics and getting the audience to clap and dance along to the upbeat songs he writes.

Has two bodyguards enrolled at the school to protect him, similar to the hat Sebek and Silver did for Malleus 10 years ago. They’re kinda goofy and laidback, but if Cheka is ever in need of help, they’re there for him.

Sometimes Kifaji pays a visit to Night Raven College to check up on his prince. He usually has a scolding prepared for Cheka, whether it be on his behavior or grades, but it comes from a place of genuine love and concern. Cheka reassures him that he’s doing fiiine, so lay off and let him live a little, won’t he?

Cheka loves to swim around in the Savanaclaw lounge’s indoor pool. He once dove into it from the second story railing and did a dive bomb, sending water flying everywhere.

On nights when he can’t sleep, he gazes out of his bedroom window and stares at the stars. They look so different on Sage’s Island than they do back home—but stargazing always makes Cheka feel less lonely. He knows the great kings of the past are looking down on him, and that his father and uncle are blanketed under this same sky.

Weak spot - Lukadrien Month Day 9 + 10

So, I never actually watched the Paris movie for ML, though I did like the idea of evil Chat and Ladybug as stuff came out prior to the release. Though, Adrien's everything from that universe, no. Thank God we have cosplays and fan art. I don't get very into the changes I made for Adrien but @revolutionary-thoy reverse au was kinda the thing that made me do this. (Also, their Sailor Moon redesigns, so good) This isn't based off their reverse au, just the idea that Kagami and Luka join, but unlike in their's where they train Adrien and Marinette, they join after the two have been established thanks to much earlier reveals. Adrinette friendship for the win. This is all before the movie and I'm going off info I pulled from the movie wiki, so hopefully nothing is too wrong. I'm also giving a bit a fair warning, Luka and Adrien toe the line, at least for me, of getting to spicy. It's mostly kissing and innuendos.

"You look like a raccoon."

Adrien looked over his compact and through the bangs of his wolfcut, to glare at Marinette. "And you look the Temu edition of the Corpse Bride." He snapped back.

She huffed in annoyance, with her hands on her hips. "Ass. Do your want help or not?"

Still glaring, he handed her the green liner pencil, still thrown that Marinette’s touch didn't automatically make him flinch as she took his face in her hands so he could look up at her.

His Shady Bug partner became thousand times less annoying after an attempt to get Betterfly's miraculous somehow caused them to detransform. One second, Supreme was yelling in their ear to grab the hero and the next, actual pain was felt when he was no longer in leather and Plagg was groaning not far from him. He knew Marinette from class, kept to herself, didn't really have friends, seemed to always be working on something at the sewing machine in the art room. She was the only one who dressed like him and he felt kinship. But with his famous father and everyone staring, he never approached her.

Having to hide out from Betterfly and his band of helpers from the resistance, they actually started talking. Turned out talking to her would of been better for them. They still bickered and insulted each other like they did before, but it was well known in school that they weren't to be messed with. Some assumed they were dating, which made them both gag, since they were both incredibly gay.

"There." Adrien checked in his compact, Marinette making the green blend seamlessly with the black. He might still look like a raccoon with his shaded eyes, but at least it went with his outfit. The over sized sleeves of his long sleeve under his shirt went with his black joggers that Marinette had sewn spotted cats onto.

"Decent, I guess."

"Fuck off." Marinette cursed at him. "Do you think we'll have the night off? I actually manged to get a shift at the cafe and I'd like to try and keep this job. Making a mess of the city and enforcing Supreme's rules dosen't pay runaways."

"It probably helps, that the really cute dragon holder Supreme brought in likes hanging out there." Adrien said with a knowing look, Cheshire smile getting bigger as Marinette got as red as the streak in her hair.

"Shut it, you mangy cat! Get back here!" She screamed as he took off.

Ringed hands slipped under his shirts, just dragging nails down his stomach, making him jolt.

"Ticklish kitten?" The voice above him teased.

Adrien bit their lip. "Shut up." He used his grip on their face to pull them back down, tilting his head to nip at one of the snake bites.

They both startled when something pounded on Adrien's door.

"Adrien! Felix told me you invited Luka? Is he in there?"

Adrien groaned. He was gonna kill that goody two shoes.

"Should I leave from the window or did you wanna ignore him?" Luka asked, from his spot on Adrien.

"We'll both go." He said, whistling for Plagg. The glutton swallowed his last peice of cheese as Adrien called him to the ring, leaving Claw Noir. Now sitting on his lap was the not as often seen, Viperion.

It always felt like such a shock that Viperion had no mask, instead wearing a face mask. Adrien missed seeing Luka's snake bites, but thankfully the mask was easy to pull down, something Claw Noir had much experience in doing.

"Adrien!" His father called from the locked door. Before the two escaped out the tall windows, Adrien turned on his sound system to blare out the screams of Clara Fightengale to deafen their escape and honestly, his father's ever growing disappointment.

Luka and Marinette’s crush, Kagami, were two of the other holders. They hadn't been doing this as long as him and Marinette, hence why they weren't sent out as often, but they learned quick. If it hasn't been for the two learning the other's identity, they would of never been introduced face to face with Luka and Kagami. Betterfly and the resistance were getting more difficult. Betterfly's kamiko allies were growing and making Claw Noir and Shady Bug's attempts at getting the butterfly miraculous harder, let alone make a mess of the city. Supreme's idea was the more holders meant they'd get the butterfly and peacock back sooner. Adrien didn't care, he was just interested in Luka. He knew it was a risk, falling for a guy who had as little care as he used to have towards Marinette, but the only other thing that mattered, was being able to bring his mother back, like Supreme promised. If kissing a cute boy between causing mayhem made things feel slightly less bleak, he'd take it. His father might hate Luka, but he was sure his mother would love him.

"So," Viperion asked as they landed on a rooftop near the Paris Hotel, "we're out of the hell hole. What do you wanna do?"

Smirking up at him, Adrien used his claws to pull Luka's mask down and stepped forward to kiss him. This was a sight that terrified the city, Viperion and Claw Noir, one with the ability to reset time and the other to cause mass destruction. Adrien wondered what Betterfly would do when the four of them where sent out for the first time.

"We can't do this all night." Luka said, not exactly helping his cause by tugging Adrien closer and slipping his tongue into Adrien's fanged mouth.

"I don't see why not?" Adrien pointed out, wrapping his arms around Luka's neck when his ears picked up on something. Luka's snake hearing clearly did too as the two jumped apart to dodge an attack.

"Claw Noir! Viperion! Don't think you're going to destroy the city." Betterfly, in all his righteous glory, stood on a roof near them. Adrien could just hear other breaths of whoever Betterfly would have as kamiko.

Viperion's mask was back in place and he looked annoyed. "I so don't have time to deal with you."

"I'd rather be taking care of something else as well, but I'm not letting you attack the city."

"Who's attacking?" Claw Noir asked, resting his staff across his shoulders so his wrists could lay over it. "But if it's a fight your looking for, fine. I was in the middle of a make out session and I keep getting interupted."

It was getting annoying to deal with, so Betterfly made the perfect punching bag.

"I'm gonna rip his wings off one day." Luka growled, stomping down the stairs of the house boat he lived in, Adrien following him.

They did good, but Betterfly being able to create heroes basically tailored to defeat them, was their losing point. Luka already said he wished he'd done Last Chance to go back, but Adrien had a feeling the butterfly hero wouldn't give in because of that. Whatever had gotten him so agitated, kept pushing him to fight back.

"Supreme is gonna kill us. But you should of taken the shot."

Luka had a chance to hit Betterfly with his lyre crossbow, but Adrien had been fighting staff to staff with the hero. He kept yelling at Luka to take the shot, but he just stood there, at least until one of the kamikoed heroes launched to attack Luka and was given a sound bolt to the face.

"You were right there." Luka said, sliding the door to his side of the room open. He shared the area with his sister, whom he barely spoke too, not since Adrien recognize her from class, the few places that openly spoke about the resistance.

"So?"

Luka turned to look at Adrien, like he was stupid. He was used to that look from Marinette, not his, well, whatever Luka was.

"So? What, I'm supposed to hit my boyfriend and not care?"

Adrien started at him. "What did you say?"

Luka looked more annoyed. "What? You think I stick my tongue into just anyone's mouth? If I'm just wasting my time."

"No, I just...I didn't think you'd call me your boyfriend. I mean, we're villains. Aren't we not supposed to date anyone? Weak points and all that?"

Those were reasons he shouldn't be friends with Marinette, but that didn't stop Adrien. It stop him from falling for Luka more and more. Their start was, well, explosive. Not literally - a first for Claw Noir - but after meeting, Viperion had flirted and Adrien's hackles went up. He didn't trust him at first, feeling like he and Shady Bug were going to be replaced. Ryuoku and Viperion were good as soliders, even with lost attempts at getting the miraculous. But Luka kept flirting, more so once they started seeing each other outside of Supreme's headquarters. He and Marinette used to try and take the other's miraculous, knowing using them both could make them more powerful, so why else would Luka be paying attention to him?

It was a fight just like the one they had. Supreme ordered the pair to work with the new holders and split up to draw Betterfly out. The butterfly hero showed up as Adrien started flashing his fangs about the flirting. He'd gotten into a massive fight with his dad about Felix's arrival and feeling replaced, like his father did with his mom, so being away from his only friend and dealing with Viperion, he was off his game.

Betterfly was kicking his ass and had been pinned when there was a scream. Viperion had grabbed some random civilian, dangling them from the roof. Adrien hadn't seen Luka so angry before.

"Your choice firefly, let him go or they become part of the resistance art they were making."

"Don't!"

"Tick tock, I'm losing patience." Adrien watched his grip start to loosen, when Betterfly tossed him over to Viperion. "Good. Now let's see how fast you can fly." Viperion let his hostage go and while Betterfly was distracted with kamikotizing them, Luka grabbed him and they disappeared.

Supreme reamed into Adrien, threatening to take the cat miraculous back before letting them go.

"Why did you do it?" Adrien asked Luka when they were just passed the doors to Supreme's lair.

Luka looked unbothered as he stalked towards him, Adrien stumbling back uncharacteristically until he hit the doors. He flinched when Luka grabbed his cheeks between his fingers.

"You bruise like a peach. Delicate skin takes marks so well."

"You make one juicy comment, I swear." Adrien started, thinking Luka was just flirting again.

"I'm the only one who can make you bruise. Anyone else tries, kitten, I'll bleed them dry." Luka yanked him into a sudden kiss, taking advantage of his open mouth to slip his tongue in.

He left Adrien breathless, red and very confused. It got worse that everytime they saw each other after that, Luka would just plant one on him.

"Maybe he likes you." Marinette said, as they hid in the art room and he complained how Viperion kissed him, revealing a new tongue piercing, during the last battle. "I mean, do you not like it?"

Once the shock of it wore off, "not really. It's just, what if it's a trick? He could easily slip off my ring."

"Then keep your hands places he can't get too when you're kissing him. We have no clue if they're our replacements once we mess up enough. I mean, I don't plan on giving these back without a fight and if you get a few months of good kisses, why not? 'Sides, I think your actually calmer around him. Most people just leave you alone or are me. Never had someone who just flirts cause he can."

Marinette had him there. When Luka basically saved him, he stopped resisting as much and accepted the kisses and flirts, easily hiding behind faking how he felt. Adrien didn't know when he stopped hiding.

"I don't give a shit about weak points. Anyone tries to take your and isn't given a Cataclysm to the face is asking for me to shoot a sound bolt, or I can rip them with my fangs."

Be still his beating heart. A bit much but...

"If your lying." Adrien warned.

Luka leaned down, smirking at him. "Kitten has claws, I'm well aware. Buggaboo also will kill me. You can trust this snake."

That sounded like such a misnomer but his best friend was the loneliest person in his class and Adrien had been falling for a snake who could 100% take everything from him. He'd think about his mom and what she'd think when he was unsure and it was hard to think his mom would like one of the two people who made like less bleak since her death.

"Just know if you break my heart," Adrien swore, pulling Luka closer by yanking him, "I'll lock you up before I hurt you."

"Kinky." Luka said, swiping his tongue across his lips.

"Idiot." Adrien said, pulling Luka into a kiss and pushing him further into the room. Luka knocked them onto his bed, tugging Adrien closer as the cat holder straddled him.

Villains tried not to have weak spots, but sometimes, there was just no helping it.

This is a very bleak moment for the United States and the world. Donald Trump takes office today promising to immediately start in on a litany of human rights abuses and other efforts to harm marginalized people. He’s promised a sweeping assault on immigrants in Chicago starting as early as this week. He’s said he will said he will sign executive orders to make trans people second class citizens (and effectively deny their existence). In recent days he’s indicated that he’s going to take his corrupt self-dealing to new levels by promoting numerous shady crypto schemes that will enrich himself and his family. And of course he’s pledged to pardon those convicted of violence associated with the January 6 coup attempt, reiterating his disdain for democracy and the rule of law.

The oncoming cruelty and horror is bad enough. But almost as painful has been the shameful rush by media, Democrats, and others who should know better to accommodate, palliate, and genuflect to the president-elect. It feels like those who oppose Trump, and those who he is about to target, have been abandoned by institutions and allies alike. The widespread resistance of 2017 appears to have vanished in a fetid wave of spinelessness. It's difficult to find much cause for hope right now. There is one mild glimmer of good news, though. The enthusiasm for Trump almost certainly won’t last. Trump has never had high approval ratings, in part because most of his policies are ill-thought out at best and deeply unpopular at worst. The beginning of a term is usually a honeymoon period when voters and other politicians give the president the benefit of the doubt. But that honeymoon is generally short, and there’s plenty of reason to believe that with Trump it will be even shorter.

The great nonresistance

The drumbeat of knees hitting the floor as Trump prepares to take office has been relentless and nauseating. Even before Trump won the election, Jeff Bezos, the billionaire owner of the Washington Post, spiked his paper’s endorsement of Kamala Harris. Billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong, owner of the Los Angeles Times, did the same at his paper.

Since Trump’s victory, media oligarchs have accelerated the pace of their disgrace. As we chronicled in this newsletter, ABC doled out $16 million to settle an absurdly weak defamation lawsuit Trump brought against the network for George Stephanopoulos’s (accurate) coverage of the E. Jean Carroll case. The Washington Post killed an editorial cartoon by Pulitzer Prize winner Ann Telnaes which depicted Bezos and other oligarchs prostrate before Trump (Telnaes, honorably, quit). Mark Zuckerberg, billionaire CEO of Meta, ended factchecking to appease Trump and his movement, which thrives on lies. Meta also carefully removed anti-LGBTQ hate speech policies, since again Trump supports hatred of and discrimination directed towards LGBTQ people.

Many Democrats, too, have been eager to besmirch themselves in the name of Trump and Trumpism. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis rushed to praise nightmare anti-vax goon and conspiracy theorist RFK Jr., who Trump has terrifyingly nominated to be secretary of health and human services (HHS). Maine Rep. Jared Golden has called for Democrats to support Trump’s economy-crushing, xenophobic tariff regime. Democratic Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer popped up to say Democrats could work with Trump on his half-brained, nativist scheme to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”

Worst of all, Sens. Ruben Gallego and John Fetterman cosponsored the Laken Riley Act, a brutal anti-immigrant bill that mandates detention of undocumented people who are even accused of a crime. It’s a dystopian attack on due process — but that did not deter 10 Democratic senators from joining Republicans to advance it. The House still needs to vote on the Senate version, but Trump will likely be able to sign it in his first days in office. Of course, Republicans like Sen. Joni Ernst have also abandoned any semblance of principle to vote for Trump’s unqualified nominees. Celebrities like Snoop Dogg, who have criticized Trump in the past, lined up to perform at his inauguration. Even voters seem to have forgotten everything they knew about Trump. His favorability was -8.6 on the day of the election. Now it’s only -1.1, according to 538.

Trump will lose again

The context here, of course, is that Trump just won a presidential election. That win was narrow, but definite. Media leaders feel like Trump is a voice of the people, and they don’t want to annoy his followers, lose access, or be targeted for harassment by his administration. Democrats feel like Trump is the voice of the people, and they want to be more like Trump in hopes of maybe poaching his voters. Voters, for their part, like to feel optimistic at the start of a presidential term, and tell themselves that maybe this guy will be better this time, even when it’s obvious he won’t. And none of this is helped by the widespread recognition that Trump may use the federal government to personally target anyone who defies him. Trump’s mandate wasn’t especially clear or impressive. But whenever a president wins, people tend to think he’s got some magical ability to channel the will of the voters. The fact that Trump as a candidate was so obviously unfit — he was convicted of 34 felonies just months before the election — only intensifies his aura of invulnerability.

But honeymoons don’t last, and we have a lot of experience with Trump indicating that his, in particular, won’t. Trump entered his first term with slightly positive approval ratings, but a month in he was already six points underwater, and things only got worse for him from there. This wasn’t some sort of accident. Trump tends to be unpopular because he has no discipline, no knowledge of or interest in good government, and supports wildly unpopular policies. His first year in office during his first term was defined by his unpopular Muslim ban, his failed effort to repeal the ACA and strip healthcare from tens of millions of Americans, and the Unite The Right rally, when he referred to rioting neo-Nazis as “very fine people.”

Republicans are gearing up to push more unpopular policies and create more chaos and ugly stories of human rights abuses. In the abstract, people often say that they like the idea of deporting undocumented immigrants. But when people hear stories about actual individuals Trump is likely to deport — an “undocumented community volunteer who has lived in the US for 10 years and has no criminal record,” for example, or “an undocumented person who has lived in the US for 15 years and has US-born children” — deportations garner less than 25 percent support, according to surveys by Data for Progress. Similarly, people enjoy the nativist rush when Trump boasts about high tariffs. But they are unlikely to be enthusiastic when our main trading partners escalate a trade war, inflation spirals, and we end up in a miserable recession. And it goes without saying that slashing Social Security benefits, as per Republican plans, is going to be mightily unpopular — as will be any push to repeal the ACA or cut Medicare, both of which are very much on the table as Republicans try to figure out a way to pay for more tax cuts for the rich. In short, the nimbus of good feeling around Trump is unsustainable, for the straightforward reason that Trump is still Trump, the guy who has had dire approval ratings for virtually his entire 10-year public political career.

Competing in the 87+kg class on Monday, Hubbard struggled to lift 125 kg (275 pounds), putting her out of the running. Her official result is "did not finish," as she bowed out after failing to record a clean lift in the snatch section of the two-part competition.

Hubbard had seemed to successfully lift the weight in her second of three attempts, but in a split decision, the judges ruled she had not held the bar steady above her head.

This had all started when you noticed a link between a book on the language of flowers you had borrowed from Satan’s room and the current lessons from your Seductive Speechcraft and Magical Potions classes.

In Seductive Speechcraft, you had just reached a section on the effectiveness of spells using non-verbal communication: enchanting glances, dance, and offerings. Meanwhile, in Magical Potions, the professor had been discussing the significance of using specific quantities when concocting potions; they had spent fifteen minutes just providing examples – including adding petals from two different flowers when using them for a love spell.

You couldn’t resist discussing the use of flower language – utilizing the type, color, and quantity of the flowers – to specify the magical intent of an offering as a form of seductive speechcraft. Asmo and Solomon listened intently. The same idea popped into both of their minds, and before you knew it, everyone was looking into color and number meanings, searching for the perfect combination to convey their feelings for you and try to put you under their spell. The only rule for their little competition to charm you? Only roses are allowed.

You are perfect

This week had culminated to today – one of those days when a cruel creature crawled onto your shoulder and screamed insults into your skull every few minutes. Its words drown everything else out. You are so useless. I hate you. I hate this. I’m such a loser. In spite of that, you still managed to pull your heavy limbs out of bed and drag them through about 60% of your morning routine – a win. It was just two classes today. You could do it.

You were noticeably slower as you walked to class, and you felt your spine compress and the full weight of your body with every step. Guilt set in – both ashamed and anxious about potentially being recognized at the bottom of this well. What were you expected to say if they asked about it? What if they were mad or annoyed because you were feeling bad again? How honest could you be without making them worry about you? What if you started crying the second they showed they cared? That would be embarrassing.

A small voice broke through your intense focus on the worst possible outcomes. You tuned your ears to it halfway through. “. . . busy after school?”

“Huh?” You blinked out of your self-induced trance. “Sorry, what was that, Luke?”

“Are you busy after school, MC?” You shook your head slowly. Luke grinned. “Great. Will you go on a picnic with me this afternoon?”

“Well, I –” you stopped yourself. The part of you that was exhausted and wasn’t sure if you could put in the extra strength to get through a picnic crumbled at the sight of Luke’s angelic smile. Maybe this was something you had to do – one of those things that are supposed to help you feel better. Your shoulders slumped with a sigh, and you forced a smile. “Yeah. Okay, Luke.”

“Yay.” Luke clasped his hands together with a grin. “I’ll meet you after your last class. We can have it at the park on the way back home, so we won’t have to go too out of the way. I’ll have everything ready.”

“Wait. Can I do anything to help? It’s last minute, but I have time between classes – maybe I could –”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ve got everything handled. Actually, well,” Luke hummed, wondering if he should share the truth. With a slight blush on his cheeks, he admitted, “I planned ahead, hoping you would say yes. I already made the food and got drinks. All you have to do is be there, really!”

You could hear the determination in Luke’s voice. It warmed your heart that he cared so much to do this, but it was a painful, burning warmth – the prickle you feel when warming your freezing fingers. His kindness felt wasted, but Luke wanted to offer it to you, and you didn’t know how to politely reject it. You nodded and Luke gave you another smile. It almost looked like part of him saw right through your façade, but you hoped his naivety would spare him from knowing how tumultuous your thoughts were recently.

“I’ll see you later, MC. Do your best in your classes. I prepared your favorites – with some help from Simeon and Barbatos, so please look forward to it.”

You tried to look forward to it, and you did your best in your classes – even though the best you could manage was sitting there and getting about half a page of notes down (hopefully about the most important parts of the lecture). You sort of lucked out that you had lectures today. Sitting there was already harder than you wanted it to be.

Luke was waiting right there in the hallway when you clawed your effort from the grasp of Diavolo’s education system. It was almost comical to see such a small angel carrying a rather large picnic basket. It looked like an overkill for a two-person picnic.

“Are the others joining us?” You asked with an ounce of dread. You had only mentally planned to spend time with Luke. Maybe you could handle Simeon and Barbatos – but even Solomon might be pushing it. If Lucifer could go without teasing Luke, you might have been okay with him, but Lucifer didn’t seem like he would be caught on a picnic with you and Luke on a weekday afternoon in the park.

“Nope, just us today. Why?”

“That basket is huge.” You didn’t really want to, but you felt you had to offer, “Should I carry that for you?”

“I had to use this picnic basket. Oh! But it’s not heavy. I can totally carry it on my own, so don’t you worry about it.”

Now that you were sitting in a quiet part of the park where the breeze was light and crisp, you felt like you could breathe a bit deeper. The Devildom was pretty when you thought about it – and you probably wouldn't have thought about it if not for Luke. He pulled out your favorite bread – one that Barbatos must have helped him bake – and that one dessert that Simeon made for you a few months ago. You didn’t even remember telling Luke that it was probably the best thing you had ever eaten. He was still pulling out food when you felt the guilt rise up again. Why did he put in so much effort?

Instead of drowning in the guilt, you tried to hold onto something. “Thank you, Luke. I don’t know what to say. This is so nice.”

“Do you know why I brought the big picnic basket today? It’s because I had to hide a present for you,” Luke admitted proudly.

“Luke.” Even for an angel, someone raised him to be too sweet.

“Close your eyes.” You did as he asked, waiting for a signal that came soon after. Luke said in sing-song, “ta-da.”

When you opened your eyes, he was holding out a bouquet of ten bright-yellow roses. The roses blurred as tears welled up. In your current state, you couldn’t remember what ten meant, but yellow was the unmistakable color of joy and friendship. It hadn’t occurred to you in a while how grateful you were for Luke’s friendship. The tears followed through on their threat, freely falling down your cheeks in the middle of the park.

“I’m sorry,” you apologized weakly. Luke tensed with panic, but he noticed that the corners of your lips kept turning up as if you were trying to smile, so he handed you a tissue and decided to say his piece.

“It’s okay, MC. You can cry if you want to. You’ve been having a hard time recently, right? I noticed – even though I think you didn’t want me to. And then, Mammon told me he heard you whisper something mean to yourself when you were alone in the library. I’m sorry that you’re not doing well. You’re my friend, right? So, I want you to rely on me, and maybe I can’t always cheer you up, but I had to do something. I want you to eat good food and enjoy the world – even if that world is the Devildom. Even if you don’t believe me, I think you’re perfect just as you are, and I want you to be happy.” Luke spoke without any of his usual embarrassment about being honest and affectionate. For a brief moment, you recalled some of the times you had been there for Luke. Yes, Luke was being kind to you in his own angelic way, but he was also holding up a mirror, reflecting your kindness back at you – a give and take that was not always even, but it was cherished. You were too busy crying to think of the right thing to say, but that was okay. Luke set the roses down and got closer. “Would you like a hug?”

You were far from cried-out, but you felt okay enough to wipe your eyes and try to enjoy this picnic to the best of your ability – even if you had drawn the attention of a few demons who were passing by. You stretched your arms out and grabbed Luke, pulling him close to you, much in the same way Satan did with street cats he befriended when they were being especially cute. With a small smile on your lips, you said, “I don’t know what I did to deserve you but if they had angel adoption papers, I would sign them right away.”

Luke wasn’t sure if you were trying to treat him like a son or a pet, but he would let it slide this time. “Well, if they had human adoption papers for angels, I would sign them too. And then I would be your guardian.”

Wolf Dragon (Monster)

(Although I didn't use it for art, this is another dragon inspired by Safari's line of dragons. The hook of a wolf dragon is very interesting, and I used it to create a rare social dragon, as well as to provide DMs with access to a culture like that of the Alpha-Beta-Omega hierarchy we once thought wolves had. Feel free to use other Alpha-Beta-Omega tropes, by the way. I also tied them with werewolves, because they are magic Wolves and I love monster ecology.)

CR8 LN Large Dragon (Earth)

Also known as lycanodrachs, or d’rrowg among themselves, wolf dragons are a rarity among dragonkind, as they live and hunt in social groups. These groups follow a strict hierarchy, one resembling that of wolves, but involving regular battles for dominance. These fights are typically ritualized, and it is considered taboo for one wolf dragon to kill another who has surrendered, but they are still loud, violent events. 

Wolf dragons are also highly territorial, and do not accept other large predators- or parties of humanoids- in their air space. Such intruders will, typically, be first approached by a flying wolf dragon who attempts to shout them down. Any who continue their flight afterwards will be attacked by the group with lethal intent. Despite this, those who obey the rules of a wolf dragon pack will find them courteous and wise hosts. Wolf dragon culture heavily values oral tradition, and they consider sharing their stories with guests to be an important aspect of hospitality. 

D’rrowg frequently cohabitate with stag dragons, although stag dragons typically choose not to integrate into wolf dragon packs, finding their violent power struggles and strict code of honor distasteful. Lycanthropes, most often werewolves, will sometimes enter a wolf dragon pack. Such beings are treated as a second class within the pack, but are still welcomed on the hunt and feasts. The real benefit, however, is maintaining their old personality when surrounded by wolf dragons. Wolf dragons hate green dragons, and will gladly sacrifice their life to take one down.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru: Hogwarts AU

Kiyotaka Ishimaru is a Pureblood wizard that was born on the 31st of August 1971 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1982, being sorted into Hufflepuff House.

He had a Willow wand with a Phoenix Feather core.

His Patronus was Non-Corporeal.

His favorite subject was Transfiguration and his least favorite was Flying.

He was one of the Hufflepuff Prefects of his year.

Befitting of someone inspiring to become a Prefect, Kiyotaka is righteous and values order and rules above all else. He takes his role as a student very seriously, shown when he gets upset that there were no classes going on during the weekends. He also states he has 10 sets of his uniform so he never runs out and so he is able to wear one every day of the year, even on holidays or days off from school. He is shown to be very polite and respectful as he addresses people, even girls with "-kun" honorifics.

Because of his grandfather's tragedy, he considers effort most important and he is a hard worker, believing that one can achieve anything through it. He views his grandfather with bitterness, but also pity, as considers genius' fate a tragedy and he considers geniuses his enemies because they don't understand the true value of effort. He also believes that people who are easily provoked to violence are cowards. Described as "enthusiastic to the point of being mad", Kiyotaka believes that every action must have a purpose and he absolutely hates wasting time.

Fitting his dream of becoming a Prefect, Kiyotaka often takes up and views himself as a leader, as seen when he organizes the morning meeting for the other students in Hufflepuff. However, he often isn't taken very seriously—due to his extreme dedication to studying and proper conduct, he could not even hold a "normal" conversation with another person, which becomes clear very soon if someone spends free time with him. Furthermore, he is very expressive and intense in his manner of speech and is almost constantly shouting. Due to his lack of social skills, he often bursts out the first thing that comes to his mind and forces his values and beliefs on others, which he's aware of and feels guilty about. Possibly because of the lack of social interaction in his life, he can also be insensitive toward another at times, as evidenced at the beginning of their third year, when he said that Makoto would not feel too comfortable sleeping in the same room with Sayaka Maizono's corpse.

Nevertheless, Kiyotaka truly cares about his classmates. He is willing to take pragmatic approaches to avoid murder, such as offering to have everyone, starting with himself, reveal their secrets to avoid Monokuma's second incentive and naively thinking during the first investigation the killer would raise their hand and reveal themselves to avoid said investigations. While hanging out, he even dubs his roommate Makoto "Professor", much to the latter's discomfort.

Though he acts confidently and is quick to take the role of leadership, he suffers from low-self esteem at times and he is quite sensitive, sometimes crying very easily if he is shocked or touched by something. Inside, he wishes he could make friends and have someone to talk to, but he feels that he might be a nuisance to others, as he is stated to overreact to everything. Some of his other weaknesses appear to be his slight naivety and slow-wittedness, as he sometimes figures things out slower than the most other students, and tricking him seems to be rather easy.

One of his unique traits is also his belief that "when the body is naked, so is the soul", meaning that showing each other their naked bodies helps two men form mutual trust. Overall, Kiyotaka values bonds between men, and once while hanging out, he asks Makoto to bathe with him in an attempt to become closer friends with him.

In the end, the death of his first and best friend, Mondo, renders him in a state of shock and he becomes almost completely speechless and unresponsive. He only comes out of this state when meeting with Chihiro and Mondo with the help of the Resurrection Stone, to whom he apologies the former to for Mondo's actions. When Mondo tries to help Kiyotaka move on, he adopts the persona of "Kiyondo" and becomes more aggressive as well as very protective of the stone, whom he sees as his "Bro". Similar to Mondo, his behavior and language is more aggressive, though refuses to use vulgar language (though he does so if someone says the M word). However, he still sees himself as a future Prefect, mentioning himself that he wouldn't perform criminal activities.

Let's talk class! It's about sims I swear, please don't leave. Or get too excited.

At this point in the challenge, our sims are inventing class structures. In this upcoming "Roman" era, we'll have 4 classes: emperor, patrician, plebeian and slaves, and in accordance to challenge rules, we assign class according to household funds.

here are all the households as of the end of round 13. 11 households doesn't seem like much to sort into 4 classes, especially keeping in mind that we want more slaves than plebeians and more plebeians than patricians, but the rules are the rules

My solve is to have 1 emperor's family, 2 patrician families, and 3 plebeian families, which leaves 5 slave class households, keeping in mind these 5 will be split up as enslaved sims go to live with higher class households.

Assigning each household a number between 1 and 11 where 1 is richest and 11 is poorest, the designation will be as follows

1 - Tuatahi - Emperor's family

2 - Lehenik - Patrician

3 - Keji - Patrician

4 - Keta - Plebeian

5 - Vuosttamus - Plebeian

6 - Akoko - Plebeian

7 - Tuarua - Slave class

8 - Qallariq - Slave class

9 - Bigarrena - Slave class

10 - Tuawha - Slave class

11 - Nubbe - Slave class

Now there's this rule that emperor sims may only marry patricians (or blood relatives if they're far enough apart that the game allows it, which is not applicable yet as the most distant familial relationship here is first cousins) and we only have one Patrician household not closely related to the Tuatahis, so expect some not totally organic attempts to ship Tuatahis with Leheniks whether they like it or not :/

which would leave no patricians or emperors left for the other patrician family heir - Awosanma Keji that is - to marry. According to the rules she must marry a patrician OR emperor, IF she is to inherit.

As it is she is courting a strapping lad from a plebeian household and I would much rather go that route than have to wait until her as-of-yet unborn unconceived and barely thought of Tuatahi-Lehenik second cousins come of age, by which time she'll probs be too old to have kids anyway. Ditto for her younger sisters.

She has a brother though, who of course could stand to wait until then. So do we just make him the heir? Is this how patriarchy happens? OR, seeing as I've already allowed myself to defy the patrilineal thing, do I keep Sanma as the heir and bend the rules? Maybe add a caveat like "a plebeian sim may only marry a patrician heir if they (the plebeian) has maxed the charisma skill and has a gift worth at least 500§ in their inventory"

I'm also noticing that 5 slave households is a lot.. especially considering that the emperors will hire 2 slaves, patrician families will hire 1 each, and the rest will just have to be criminals. I'm going to allow my plebeian families farms / small home businesses, and I'm considering whether they should be able to hire slaves for grunt work (i mean in actual Rome slaves were transcriptionists and accountants, not just latrine scrubbers but whatever it's sims right) because otherwise the island's working population will be like 55% professional criminals with barely anyone to work in the mines and such. which is weird

Also I have to move two entire slaves in with the Tuatahis.. there's so many of them already 😫

As a thoroughly russified Qazaq kid growing up in the 1980s Almaty, I had deeply internalized the Russo-centric view of Qazaq-speaking Qazaqs as being rural and backwards. Embarrassingly, for many years, I failed to understand what now seems so painfully obvious. 1/10

My infatuation with Russian culture and my contempt toward the language of my own ancestors were byproducts of Moscow's colonial rule in Central Asia. When the colonized learn to look down on their own language and culture, the settler colonial project is complete. 2/10

As post-Soviet Russia reverted to its roots as a murderous colonial power, my lopsided love affair with Russian language and culture came to an end. My old contempt for Qazaq language and culture has been replaced with attempts to learn Qazaq and regret about the loss. 3/10

As a one-time Russophile, I gradually awakened to a more realistic view of Russia & Russians. The horrors of Russia's invasions of Georgia and Ukraine have been my wake up calls. I also learned something important about the Qazaq-speaking Qazaq folks. 4/10

It turned out that many of them have had a far more accurate view of Russia ll along. When collecting interviews with Qazaq speakers for a recent research project, I was deeply impressed by their empathy with Ukraine's struggle against Russian imperialism. 5/10

But there was something else. While my own decolonial awakening was prompted by the horrors of Russian imperial revanchism, many Qazaq speakers seem to have been wide awake all along. This was evident in many conversations. However, one thing stood out. 6/10

Several older participants recited a particular Qazaq proverb that really struck me. It translates from Qazaq to English as follows: "IF YOUR FRIEND IS RUSSIAN, KEEP AN AXE HANDY." As a Qazaq who grew up speaking Russian, I have never heard it before . 7/10

The proverb's blunt message about the need for constant vigilance is rooted in long-standing wariness toward Russia and Russians. The fact that htis was expressed by participants who came of age during the Soviet period was especially striking. But it also made sense. 8/10

During Moscow's rule in Qazaqstan, ethnic Qazaqs who did not master Russian lived as second class citizens in their own land because educational and professional opportunities for Qazaq speakers were extremely limited. Russian was presented as a a gateway to modernity. 9/10

Having internalized Russian colonial gaze, I had once foolishly viewed Qazaq-speaking people as archaic and ignorant. It turns out I was the ignorant one. It is humbling to have been so wrong for such a long time. But, as they say, better late than never. 10/10

What's up Vi? I really want to help out in my community, but I'm not sure how best to go about it. What would you do?

Hi! While I do have some suggestions, I'll also share with you what I did, as I feel like it might be helpful.

The year was 1946. I was on my way to New Glasgow when my car broke down. When I went to get help, I was told the repair would take several hours, so I booked a hotel room went to the a theatre to kill time.

I bought a ticket for the main floor, but the person selling it to me told me that the balcony was generally reserved for non-white customers. I told them no, that I was going to watch on the main floor with everyone else. Then they refused to sell me the seat, I decided that I was going to take a seat on the main floor anyway.

The manager then confronted me saying that the theatre had the right to refuse admission to any objectionable person. I pointed out that I had in fact not been refused, and showed him the ticket I had bought in my hand. When still I declined to leave my seat, I was dragged out of theatre by a police officer, and taken to jail cell where I was held overnight. Truthfully, I was terrified. But I was even more determined not to let them see me deterred. I sat bolt upright all night long.

The next morning I was brought to court and charged with attempting to defraud the provincial government based on my refusal to pay one cent tax. Throughout the trial, I was not provided with legal representation or informed that i was entitled to any.

At no point during the proceedings was the issue of race mentioned. It was clear that my real offense was to violate the implicit rule that Black persons were to sit in the balcony seats, segregated from the White persons main floor.

I contacted a lawyer in order to reverse my charge. Our case never made it to trial, since the 10-day deadline for filling and appeal had passed and the conviction stood. We lost. I think one of the biggest misconceptions about change is that it's easy and immediate. It isn't. Change took time then, and it still does today. I'm not sure how much I got done in the end, but I can say with certainty that my choice to resist the status quo and band together with a community no doubt helped in ending a second-class life of black people in Canada.
