wild to me that there are people who have no desire to paint their walls in fun ways. and i don't just mean "people who choose sad neutral colors on purpose" i mean: why aren't more homeowners out there scribbling on their walls? it's your property, you can paint and color and draw whatever you want to! when did we as a species stop fingerpainting our homes that was a mistake

#everyone should have a crayon wall. a wall reserved primarily for scribbling on with crayons #we've lost the art of cave painting. and more importantly the SPIRIT of cave painting #*me explaining to my ancestors that i have access to a unimaginable variety of pigments & paints & dyes they could only dream of #but i live in a world where walls are whitewashed and most clothing comes in like. 4 colors. and isn't even tailored to fit *#anyways my biggest homeowner pipe dream is to paint cave art inspired murals in most rooms #and then have one wall specifically reserved for doodling whenever I'm bored. I'll invite friends over for a scribble party #it's honestly so confusing to me that this is not a normal thing for kid's bedrooms especially #we've all heard of young children coloring on walls it's basically instinctive #so if you can afford to why not let your kid have a wall in their bedroom reserved for doodling

#principal skinner pride flag for my gay little dogs #you see this is why my dog people need to see the same spectrum of colors we do #I feel like their literal world view would be drastically altered if they couldn't distinquish between orange and green #I'd argue that red is a significant color in practically every culture #it's instinctual associations with danger food and fertility make it attention grabbing on a visceral monkey brain level #I strongly suspect the impact would be at least somewhat negated if it was a muted brownish khaki instead #meaning it wouldn't be used in visual communication nearly as much #I would have to center my art and worldbuilding more around yellow and blue because those would be the colors the dogs would see clearly #right? is that sound logic?#and that would just make me immensely sad because warm colors are my favorites :<#answered #m0notropa-uniflora #something that continues to boggle my mind is that there are animals that see more colors than humans #we like to assume that our color vision is the best we can see it ALL look at that rainbow there that's the full set #yes primates are well equipped in this regard compared to many other mammals like dogs #but most birds for example have more color receptors in their eyes they have more tools to work with and their rainbow is even wider #it's like sound everyone knows we can't hear sounds that are impossibly low or too high #and we can't process wavelengths of light that are too long (infrared) or too short (ultraviolet)#only what lands between those bookends (called the visible spectrum) reads to our human eyes as “light” and subsequently “color”#I hope I've understood this correctly I'm trying to say that there's a whole layer of vision we don't have the hardware to get access to #and that's just wild to me like we are fundamentally unable to imagine a new color that isn't already included in our built-in selection #but they're definitely there the unimaginable colors are in the room with you and a common pigeon can see them #uv dlc not available for your system

the other thing about being disabled in academia is everyone is like "yeah we can't do much about the buildings they're old :/" as if "old" being a synonym for "inaccessible" isn't just a constant reminder that the people who built the school did not imagine that someday someone like me might study there

#mod felix #obviously there's some stuff that's way more accessible with like. electricity. like. i can get to the second floor. for example #but like. it's still possible to have. for example. ramps. if you as a culture value disabled people and their work #i miss when i was at a school where 'these are old buildings' meant 'these buildings were built for cows instead of people'#rather than 'these buildings were built for students just not students like you'#and of course this is another one that applies to many marginalized groups and like. many groups more than disabled people #in the sense that like. my school was also built to explicitly exclude people of color. for example #but i speak from my own experience and my own experience is characterized by ableism more than anything else #but like . again if you read this and you're like 'this feels like it applies to me in ways unrelated to disability'#well it probably does.
