Well, if ratings didn't tank this season, I'd be surprised. Not that they'd let us know or anything. I'd like to know whose bright idea it was to make ratings private and disclosed only to the interested parties in Canada. How is that privileged information? << has the ratings for the show ever been public information? Because I was wondering earlier today, if the show has ever been close to cancellation or if it’s just what we as fans fear. If I remember correctly, in 2019–2020 (presumably the first two seasons), it was Citytv's highest rated original series

I think the last season we got ratings for was S4. Or 5. If anyone knows better, I'd be happy to be corrected on that. And yes, Hudson and Rex was considered a good performer, but it's been a few years since then, this season was too small and too "special circumstances" to be considered as a solid season, although a smart person would take it as indicative of what would happen in case they decide to change leads. Because right now, quite a few people gave them a watch in sign of good faith and recognizing the difficulties of this season, or not really knowing the situation and thinking that it was temporary. Networks are rarely smart, though.

It also needs to be mentioned that CityTV doesn't have much of a scripted programming, and competition in Canada is not exactly cutthroat between Canadian scripted shows. However, they do require a percentage of Canadian programs by law, as far as I know, so if thing are solid there's not much reason to change anything, lest you invite a ratings downfall.

Feels like i just need to say something??? I don't think I've seen any IFs captures the fucking silliness of lesbian dating so fantastically (yes i call it all silly). The mess, the jealousy, the omg-are/were-you-dating my ex? The figuring out about identity part, idk I'm rambling but you just managed to capture that lesbian spirit so well, i know there's vampires and magic stuff in there but everything is so realistic! Except for one thing and I'm grateful for it, is how civil the non-femmes are with each other. there absolutely is a kind of competitiveness that i’ve found in butch/femme spaces and butch4butch relationships are still pretty rare and looked down upon even in some lesbian circles (we’re those lesbians (derogatory)). i still wanted there to be jealousy with Valentina and Hana and that tense rivalry but i wanted to do it in a way that wouldn’t immediately pit the three butches against each other, and i wanted all of them to be open to the mc and not even think twice about her being butch too.

obviously the tension will still escalate as the story progresses especially if you’re choosing to be monogamous but honestly the girls are too old for some of that shit LOL

one thing I love about following celebrities/artists who are honest and proactive about their mental health struggles etc is I can’t count the number of times someone I know is going through something and I’m like ‘I’ve got a song for u’ and how much of my life involves telling myself ‘if [redacted] can do something/get better/etc then so can i’ (and having actual real evidence of it in front of me) and I can’t understate how much I appreciate these things.

but at the same time it involves a whole lot of watching people I care about suffer and you learn to read the signs and infer between the lines in songs and interviews, and yes we can never fully know what they don’t share with us, but when they do share things it’s not a big stretch to be like ‘this seems like it’s what life is like for you and I have taken encouragement from it but you deserve so much better’. and it’s easy to find ways to get angry at a predatory industry and realise things that could be hurtful if you’re already fragile.

and we can advocate for some things and help ourselves and the people around us feel better but it’s hard to meaningfully reach your faves as an individual. and there are things we can’t say on the internet in too much detail, speculation becomes the harmful kind of gossip, and so sometimes it’s a whole lot of internally saying ‘you’re doing incredibly well to have gotten to where you are but I wish for your sake things would get better faster’

Hello! I just wanted to say that I really appreciate this game and how it portrays butchness. I'm a huge fan of lesbian lit and there are so few butches in media that to see a game have not one, but three, makes me feel a certain kind of way.

Aside from that, I was really drawn to how you portrayed the differing relationships between all the characters. Everything feels so visceral and real, it just feels so crunchy that I find myself wanting for more. I really look forward to seeing how it will turn out for everyone involved.

Additionally, (if this is too spoilery, has been answered, or insensitive pls feel free to ignore) is it ok if I ask how you decide the dialogue and event flow of the choices? I was mildly and pleasantly surprised that flirting with Clear and staying with her in ch 3 would lead to "that" scene, and I'm curious on your writing process on how it lead to that.

Ultimately, I just really want to thank you for sharing your game with us. Im just really glad to be able to experience this game and I hope that you stay safe!

overall when it comes to structuring dialogue & choices i tend to write a linear path first & then double back to add more branches.

i had a basic outline of the chapter & knew what i wanted to touch on with each route & what scenes needed to happen, and then i just kinda started writing from there. Clear's was actually the one i wrote first, her sex scene was what i wrote first, and then i went back and built a lot of the route around it.

i wrote Clear's and Hana's routes simultaneously since they were so intertwined, but i ended up rewriting Hana's three times, whereas with Clear i just had to edit it a bit. i knew i wanted them to have that conversation at the table about Clear not having any friends, and then i wrote the scene where mc finds the vampire erotica book. it took some trial and error until i was happy with the dialogue & choices at the table, as well as how i wanted to split the following variations. i tend to do the romantic variations first, and then work my way down, and sometimes i have to go backwards and edit as i write because i'll add something on a whim to one variation and decide that actually i want this to be in all of them.

i am definitely someone that's a bit of a "planster" meaning i do minimal planning and write a lot by the seat of my pants. sometimes it works, other times it puts me in a bit of a bind. like i said i tend to set out with specific information/dialogue/scene/etc in mind that i know has to happen, and build up around it.

with Hana the main focus in her route was that conversation with mc; i wanted mc to get overwhelmed at the store, and for her and Hana to talk about it afterwards, and for Hana to be frustrated at her situation as this person who suddenly has to comfort and take care of mc after being replaced by her. again, minimal planning, i wrote almost her whole route before i started working on Valentina's & i mentioned Standard and his proclivities towards Chinese antiques. this made me realize i needed to rewrite a lot of Hana's dialogue to be more inclusive of her race. i went back to Clear's route, and ended up writing a lot of the conversation with Hana there after she gets back from the store, and then i adapted it to the other routes.

Valentina's route was all about the painting. again, i wrote that initial scene of walking into her room, the description of the painting, and then her first sex scene, and built up from there. there was also the brief meeting with Joan, which was mostly just for fun and to introduce those characters early for anyone that went on V's route, so the next chapter those players will have a little jump on who they are. but the main point was that painting & i think it's pretty obvious with how the whole route plays out, and the fact that the painting is always seen by all players.

this is still a game, so it is gamified quite a bit, with all 3 characters having a potential sex scene in the same chapter at the same time. i planned it that way to make it easy for myself and because that's just how i wanted it to go. i put some stat checks in place to add variations, like if you went with Hana or Valentina in ch2, if you flirted with Clear or not, and again, it was a lot of jumping around and trial and error. i wrote a significant part of Valentina's route out of order, and i finished hers last before i finalized the council meeting (which i had written very early on but like Hana's route i had to rewrite a few times)

i like to describe my process as building a tree. i write the core of it all first, one linear path, the trunk, and then i double back and add in all of the possible branches. it doesn't mean anything that i wrote the friendly, romantic variation of Clear's route first, it just allowed me to use that single variation as an anchor and build up around it without straying too far and losing the plot, hahahaha. i still sometimes stray a little too far... but it's fun that way. it was fun trying to figure out a way to make the rival route different, how to change it while still telegraphing the same overall ideas about Clear & her situation. it's also very frustrating, but it's all part of the process....

You seriously support Johnny Depp? His situation isnʼt comparable to Percy at all. Percy was unfairly treated and bullied by crazy Jenna stans, he didnʼt do anything wrong and was just a kid when it all went down.

Johnny Depp is an actual abuser and there is lots of evidence for it. His PR team successfully started a smear campaign against Amber on social media and people ran with it.

I did/am doing all of that, because I got sucked into the trial...morbid curiosity, because at first I didn't give a flying fuck about Amber Heard (like when she was all over him/married him, I didn't GAF) but I'd been a Depp fan for a while. The trial and its contents were VERY enlightening.

(And yes, I read the whole of the judge's decision in the UK case, and his decisions in the face of the actual evidence was unreal; some of the Heard items in his decisions were obviously fucked and yet he just shrugged his shoulders and dismissed it as if it didn't count. It was a different trial with different parameters and a judge known to have connections that lead back to Heard.)

Here's a thread with just the mere basics of what we have known since the trial (it's in the book). The thread doesn't seem to acknowledge that we have known these things about Heard for years. We have known that she's HPD, narcissistic and a violent cokehead and drunk even before she ever sank her claws into Depp.

And I was honestly triggered by the audios of their conversations since my ex would also say and do similar fucked up shit to me (I still have the audios of her abuse where she tells me to kill myself because I wouldn't write something academic for her; of when she created a crisis when my friends were visiting because she needed to be the center of attention; of when she said no one would believe me if I ever told someone she was being abusive [since she had Pretty Privilege], etc.). And I would react in a similar fashion to Depp: Attempted avoidance (but she wouldn't stop calling me), drinking & drugs (at the time it was morphine) and the only reactive violence occurring was to inanimate objects like my laptop (R.I.P., when she was grilling me about my friends and accusing me of cheating on her with my ex).

FTR, my mother has HPD. I know she does, because she did and still does the same shit to my father. I can recognize HPD. That was the proper Dx for Amber Heard.

At 27 minutes in, Curry describes the behavior of someone with HPD, and later on in the trial you can see the evidence of it yourself when Heard took the stand and got aggressive with Vasquez🔥. Heard literally proved the doctor correct in her Dx.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just giving you where I'm coming from on this. I didn't sit around eating PR during the trial. I ate what was presented in court PLUS some, since full ass audios weren't played in court (though they were available from the court website). I sat with Emily D. Baker every day on YouTube, where she was able to break down what was going on for us in layman's terms, even though I'm already familiar with legalese.

I told you, I watched the trial. I also understand how some peoples' brains are slow to adjust to adjectives and pronouns when their visual/audio cues tell them otherwise (and as far as it's known, Johnny knew Io under his former female pronouns). My aunt was like this. She had trouble adjusting to my transition since she knew me pre-transition, and it also depends on disposition/personalities and how they react to something like that. You interact for the first time when you make a video response to one of his controversial takes. You're no established youtuber, your channel doesn't even have any videos before you post about him. You don't add any fancy graphics or music. Just you and your slightly busted ring light, ranting at him for totally misrepresenting your interest.

But people are totally into it. You're passionate. You're funny. You're a breath of fresh air compared to the over produced, over budgeted videos that crowd the homepage.

He invites you on his podcast. Secretly, he expects you to back down. Be camera shy. You're just a no name with a phone camera and he's a guy who gets a million views within a day of uploading. It's got to be intimidating, right?

Nope. You're just the same in person as you were in your video. Not scared to challenge his opinions, not afraid of the lights and team of editors. When the video finally goes out, people eat it up.

You have no intention of being an influencer. But damn if the money isn't good. If the PR packages aren't sweet.

You move to the same city as him. Let him teach you the ins and outs of the biz. And he eats it up. Takes every opportunity to be your 'internet big brother.'

Starts using bots to mass report your posts. All anonymously of course. Or through a shell company. Hey, he's been in this biz too long to make a rookie mistake.

And when you're at your wits end, when rent is due and you're broke from trying to get your videos back up, that's when he steps in. Says you guys can collab and he'll give you more than half of the sponsorship money.

Smiles all sweet and charming when he leans in and says, "There's lots of ways to pay me back, so don't worry about it."

You naive thing. He was never going to ask for money in return. No, what he wants is much harder to come by and all the sweeter for it. You think just 'cause he seems like a good guy that he's nice all the way through? That wearing nail polish and doing mud masks on cam makes him any less of a man? Any less hungry? No way baby.

And when it's time to pay up and he's pushing you to your knees, fingers practically ripping his belt buckle loose, you think he's going to stop just because you ask him to? When he has you exactly where he wants you? No matter how polite he is on the surface, he's still just a man.
