Still humbled by the amazing reaction to my Frost Heirloom cosplay at TennoCon2024. I cannot thank Digital Extremes, their staff or the wonderful cosplay judges enough for putting on (and growing!) such a crazy thing as the TennoCon Cosplay Event. The highlight for me was the people we met - in line, around the city and during the Con. But, to those that I spoke to and said that my Frost Harka cosplay last year was why you started cosplaying and/or came this year - you've no idea how happy that makes me to hear, truly.

So remember when I mentioned me and @just-cain will be representing our country in an international cosplay contest..?

WE WON!!! We genuinely won first place!

Bringing Sephiroth and Genesis to life on the stage was so much fun, and we're so excited to keep going after this win!

Once we have any better pictures from the stage I'll post them but for now 👉👈

(Genuine question, would anybody want to watch the whole skit? This contest was out of the ordinary bc it allowed skits above 5 minutes minimum, and ours was almost 6 hahah)

A picture my friend took of me during the cosplay competition! I ended up going on stage at 9pm and the wig was so frizzy but for my first real cosplay i’m really proud of myself! The con took professional photos of everyone and I will post them when I get them!

Apropos of totally nothing at all - man, do I love when costumes tell a story.

You can tell so so much about a character by how they are dressed - through choice of fabrics, choice of accessoires, colour, shape, weathering -

Game of Thrones costumes come to mind. You can have whatever opinion on the way the show handled adapting the books, or the final seasons [god knows I do have many opinions] but you cannot argue that the costumes are not immaculate. Many of the especially female characters have storytelling put into their costumes via embroidery and such - for example, the infamous dragon scale fabric manipulation on Daenerys, the way Cersei's dresses get more and more armour added to as she feels more and more threatened in her role as queen, the way Sansa's final costume pays tribute to her entire family and home and the people that shaped her. Another media that comes to mind is Wheel of Time, and Moraine Sedai's blue dress with the golden metalwork pseudo-armour bodice in the last season that is literally her personal mantra written down over and over to show how her values and personal morals are what she uses to guard her heart, or her leather shoulder armour thingy from the first season showing how guarded she is whenever she knows people will perceive her, and how all her costumes are looser in shape and fabric when she is alone with her true love, Siuan. Also, for a more contemporary media example: Eleven in Stranger Things dresses like the people that influence her and that she looks up to at any given time and costuming is literally used to show her figuring out what kind of person she is.

Costuming, when done well, is storytelling. It is a fundamental part of costuming craftsmanship.

Just. Apropos of nothing at all.

Also, if you are in a position of power, for example as a judge in a contest, you probably should not film people right in the judging area for content, because the people are stressed, anxious and scared to tell you no when you ask consent, therefor making it not really consent as it is a pressurized situation and also not informed. Just ask them when judging is done and film them in a separate location, that is literally fine.

If you wanted to catch the Winter Cosplay Championship at Holiday Matsuri this year! I did record it all!! It's broken up by prelims so you don't have to watch all two and half hours of contest at once! I also added chapters where the skit approximately begins if you don't want to watch them set the stage for skits!
