I mentioned this on Twitter but I feel like there needs to be more acknowledgement in the whole, “Jayce/Caitlyn/Mel are bad for making/using/promoting Hextech weapons” argument about the fact that Viktor very much made Hextech weapons too!
Like, to see his cultist robots in S2 or even his own evolved form with the Hexclaw laser beam and not say, “Hey wait, those are ALSO Hextech weapons!” Is borderline willfully obtuse. Though, to be fair, it’s obtuse in a way that I think Viktor is in the moment when he makes them, so I kind of excuse people who like Viktor don’t realize they’re weapons but let’s be clear: Viktor’s cult bots are VERY MUCH Hextech weapons that are just as deadly as any created throughout the course of the show, and arguably they are the most sophisticated Hextech weapons we ever see. (“No beast is more savage than man.”)
I’m sure Viktor would argue that his Hexbots are not made to be weapons, that they’re made to capture, incapacitate, and assimilate enemies in order to stop conflict. I’m sure he’d argue his Hexclaw was only used to cut opening in walls and ceilings during his fight with Jayce and not, say, intentionally used to intimidate or threaten Jayce by blasting it right next to Jayce’s face.
But that’s because I think the whole point of Viktor’s villain arc is how much he’s LYING to himself, or the Hexcore is lying to him, depending on how much you subscribe the mind control theory. But saying the Hexbots forcefully assimilating people isn’t a weapon is ludicrous. Saying the Hexclaw laser beam isn’t a weapon has been ludicrous ever since Viktor first invented it! It put his naïveté on full display when he was shocked that anyone would use it as a weapon instead of as a tool for artisans omg it’s a fucking DEATH LASER!
And the reason I think it’s important to pull into the debate that Viktor very much made Hextech weapons too is because it stops the debate from being about who is right and who is wrong, who should be put on a pedestal and who should be damned.
Because Arcane isn’t about who is right or wrong it’s about how humans act and react during times of stress, and because of love, and because their loved ones come under attack.
Caitlyn is AGAINST Hextech weapons UNTIL the Memorial Attack pushes her over the edge, just as it was meant to when Ambessa orchestrated it.
Mel was IN FAVOR of Hextech weapons UNTIL she realized the true cost and that it was all a play by her mother to get them for herself.
Jayce was AGAINST Hextech weapons UNTIL his beloved city came under attack. Between Jinx’s terrorist attacks, Silco’s pressure campaign, and Marcus as the insider traitor whispering poison in his ear, and finally Ambessa’s expert manipulation, Jayce was at the center of a paranoia campaign pushing him to a single conclusion that they were needed. UNTIL the Shimmer factory and the death of Renni’s son when he realized the true cost of war when he once again was against them.
But, I’d argue, like with Caitlyn, Jayce’s switch to being against Hextech weapons again gets outmaneuvered by Ambessa orchestrating the Memorial Attack. Tensions are just too high to not do anything so I personally see the strike team’s personal Hextech weapons as an attempt to make the best of an impossible situation because there IS in fact an arms race going on between Piltover and Zaun and Shimmer DOES make Zaun more powerful than normal humans in a ways that seems to demand an escalation only Hextech can answer. The show doesn’t say it’s right it just says this is an imperfect decision made in desperate times by those who are otherwise against Hextech weapons. I’d argue make a half dozen weapons for an elite strike team is VASTLY different than arming an entire invasion, BUT the show doesn’t excuse it. It asks if this is ok and leave the answer deliberately gray (haha no pun intended)
But I digress.
The point is, EVERYONE has a shifting view of the merits of Hextech weaponry, and not even Viktor is exempt. Viktor tries to be a pacifist, until HE TOO faces a violent situation that destroys his faith in humanity, just like Caitlyn did at the Memorial Attack and from there he’s angry and hurt and doesn’t see any way forward except to meet wrath with wrath, ally with Ambessa, forcibly convert those who refuse to convert willingly to his vision, and remake the world in his own image using the power of Hextech and Shimmer as weapons in this cause.
And lest we forget, Viktor’s vision would lead to more widespread death and destruction through Hextech than any other character is shown to be capable of in the whole series!
Arcane is about human choices and emotions, actions and unintended consequences, not humans competing to win the Morality Olympics. Refusing to acknowledge that every character is capable of making violent decisions and turn on their own dearly held principles during moments of stress, terror, pain, and disillusionment, in favor of arguing about Who Is Better is just such a flat and unnuanced way of looking at the nuances of this story.
Viktor made Hextech weapons too. No one in power is ever innocent.

Now one thing I find really stylistically interesting about Batman Beyond, is that a lot of the mechanisms by which the supervillians do their thing come part-and-parcel with the cyberpunk setting, rather than being an aberration resulting purely from the superheroic genre elements. This is the future of a quote-unquote "present-day" DCU, meaning that they've superficially addressed the question of why all the cutting-edge supertech used in the cape scene never seems to see mass adoption by the civilian sector- forty years later, it has. This means that It's never hard to grok where any given villain is getting the resources necessary to execute their gimmick; these people are flashy by our standards, but they live in a world where everyone has access to flying cars and antigravity drones. Half these people are doing the cyberpunk equivalent of going killdozer with repurposed industrial equipment, or kludging together something with off-the-shelf stuff from radio shack, or mounting a machine gun on a technical truck, and literally in the middle of typing this sentence I started the episode where there's mass-market off-the-shelf animal gene-splicing that would have been a whole-ass individualized origin story in the time of Batman: The Animated Series. Even one-off mutants like Inque and Blight are well-understood within the context of the setting, to the extent of Inque being able to make a knockoff of herself on the go.
This is dystopic. Beyond the genre-typical surface-level megacorp domination of society it's dystopic. On the meta-level it's the same dynamic as Superman: The Animated Series, where the reason there's a sudden uptick in weird costumed crime concurrent with the protagonist's debut is purely Doylistic- the hero needs punching bags. But within the logic of the setting, there's nothing special about Willy Watt's decision to go full Carrie using a hijacked construction robot besides the fact that he had somewhat easier access to the thing than the average school-shooter. Spellbinder being able to put together functional illusion-and-mind-control tech on a high-school counselor's salary- when his entire complaint is that he isn't being paid enough- implies that the main barrier to anyone else pulling the same brainwashing stunt is that nobody else thought to. Shriek's sound suit might be more a more roundabout demolition tool than dynamite, but it's still powerful enough to bring down buildings and he created it as a fly-by-night contractor. The consumer tech base is evolved to the point that regardless of when Batman shows up, shit like this should literally never not be happening- they're past an inflection point. I remember Syndrome from The Incredibles having some kind of line about this
#The zoey Ashe series by Jason Pargin had a lot to say about the genie-out-of-the-bottle issue you get with this level of tech saturation#thoughts#meta#batman beyond#batman beyond livewatch#effortpost

tysm for answering my questions! Also this request mentions abuse and some other bad things!
Can I request something long with TFA Megatron x a femme yapper human reader?? You know how Meltdown/Prometheus black would experiment on humans and stuff? Reader was a child when he first started doing experiments on them, and after 20 years she’s all different now. She has like black claws as hands and feet, and has like a robot arm that Prometheus attached to her after cutting her arm off- basically, reader looks like a monster and one day (now when Prometheusis Meltdown) he told her to find something in the same forest where the cons cave was and Megatron found her wandering around and was like “you’re mine now.” To her basically
He was planning to use her just so she can do missions that they couldn’t do and humans could, but he grew on her and her rambling about her life and interests. She’s also besties with Blitzwing bc they’re both different in a way!:D so now they have a human(?) with them, who goes on missions with Lugnut and Blitzwing and became a unstoppable trio, and who also maybe or maybe not may become Megatron’s lil girlfriend hehe. She’s just silly:3
Sorry for the ranting, I like being descriptive😞 thank you though! Hope you’re able to do this💗💗
A Monster Among Decepticons.
Prometheus Black—no, Meltdown now—had sent her on this mission to retrieve something he claimed was vital. She didn’t ask questions anymore. Asking only led to punishment, and she’d endured enough of his wrath over the years.
But something felt off. She was deep in the woods now, away from Meltdown’s labs, and for the first time in years, the air didn’t reek of chemicals and burning flesh. It smelled clean. Almost peaceful.
Until it wasn’t.
The ground trembled beneath her feet, and she froze, her sharp claws digging into the dirt instinctively. A shadow loomed over her, massive and imposing, and she slowly tilted her head up to see the unmistakable figure of a Decepticon—no, not just any Decepticon. This was Megatron.
The warlord himself.
“Well, what do we have here?” Megatron’s voice was smooth, dark, and edged with menace. His crimson optics scanned her form, lingering on the jagged claws, the robotic arm, and her hunched posture. “A little monster, wandering so far from her den.”
Y/n’s breath hitched. She should run. Hide. Anything but stand there like an idiot staring up at him. But her legs wouldn’t move.
“I—uh—I’m just… passing through.” Her voice wavered, betraying her fear.
Megatron’s optics narrowed. “Passing through? Hardly. You reek of human experimentation. Meltdown, I presume?”
She flinched at the mention of his name.
Megatron’s smirk widened. “Thought so. And what is it he’s sent you to find out here?”
“I—” She hesitated, clutching her robotic arm as if it would shield her. “It’s none of your business.”
“Wrong answer.”
Before she could react, a massive servo shot out, wrapping around her midsection and lifting her into the air effortlessly. She clawed at his fingers, her sharp nails scratching against his metal plating to no avail.
“Let me go!” she shrieked, squirming in his grip.
Megatron chuckled darkly. “You’re an intriguing little creature, I’ll give you that. It’s not often I see such… dedication to experimentation. I could make use of you.”
“What?” Her struggling ceased as his words registered.
“You heard me,” he said, his tone deadly serious. “You’re mine now. A creature like you belongs to the Decepticons, not wasting away under the orders of some pathetic human scientist.”
She blinked, her mind racing. Was this better or worse than Meltdown?
Y/n hadn’t expected to survive long among the Decepticons. Being the only (mostly) human among a faction of war-hardened Cybertronians was terrifying enough, but the fact that she’d been practically adopted by Megatron himself made things even more bizarre.
At first, Megatron had treated her as a tool, sending her on missions to infiltrate human facilities or gather intel in places Autobots couldn’t easily reach. She’d begrudgingly obeyed, knowing that disobedience would likely lead to her demise. But over time, she noticed subtle changes in his demeanor.
He listened to her rambling, no matter how nonsensical or off-topic it got. She’d talk about anything—books she’d read as a kid, movies she used to love, or the strange dreams she had about being normal again. And instead of shutting her down or ignoring her, Megatron would… respond. Sometimes with sarcasm, sometimes with genuine curiosity.
Then there was Blitzwing.
The triple-changer had become her unlikely best friend. His chaotic nature matched hers in ways that even she hadn’t anticipated. Random outbursts from his Hothead personality would make her laugh, while Icy’s cold logic often led to hilarious debates between them. Random, his playful side, was her favorite—they’d often team up to prank Lugnut, much to the latter’s frustration.
Speaking of Lugnut, he tolerated her solely because Megatron had commanded it. Though he would often grumble about “the fleshling’s” presence, he couldn’t deny her usefulness on missions.
One evening, Y/n sat in the cave the Decepticons were using as their temporary base. She was tinkering with a broken communication device, her robotic arm whirring softly as she worked. Blitzwing sat nearby, switching between personalities as he observed her.
“You’re very good at this, ja?” Random said, leaning closer to peer at her work.
“Yeah, well, you pick up a thing or two when you’re stuck in a lab for twenty years,” she replied, not looking up.
Icy’s voice took over. “Your resilience is admirable, given your… circumstances.”
She glanced at him, surprised by the genuine tone. “Thanks, I guess.”
The sound of heavy footsteps made her look up, and she saw Megatron entering the cavern. He looked… tense.
“Y/n,” he said, his voice commanding as ever. “A word.”
She stood, following him to a quieter section of the cave.
“What’s up, boss bot?” she asked, trying to keep the mood light.
“You’ve proven yourself useful,” he began, his tone unreadable. “But I can’t help but notice that you’ve grown… close to some of my soldiers.”
“Uh, yeah? Blitzwing’s great. Lugnut’s… tolerable. What’s the problem?”
“The problem,” Megatron said, stepping closer, “is that I find myself… distracted by you.”
Her heart skipped a beat. “Distracted? How?”
He huffed, his optics narrowing. “You’re insufferable. Loud, unpredictable, and entirely too reckless.”
“Wow, thanks for the compliment,” she said sarcastically, crossing her arms.
“And yet,” he continued, ignoring her, “I can’t bring myself to dispose of you.”
Her breath caught in her throat. Was this… was he trying to confess something?
“Megatron, are you saying you—”
“Enough,” he interrupted, his tone softer now. “I don’t have time for games. You’ve… grown on me, Y/n. Against my better judgment.”
For once, she was speechless.
“Say something, human,” he demanded, his patience wearing thin.
She grinned, stepping closer. “You’re not so bad yourself, boss bot.”
Before he could respond, she stood on her tiptoes and pressed a kiss to his metal cheek.
Blitzwing’s voice rang out from behind them. “Aww, how cute! The mighty Megatron, brought down by a tiny human!”
“BLITZWING!” Megatron roared, spinning around to glare at the triple-changer.
Y/n burst out laughing, leaning against Megatron’s leg for support. Despite the chaos, she couldn’t help but feel… happy. For the first time in years, she felt like she belonged.
And Megatron, against all odds, felt the same.

It's kind of amazing that a horny game like Nikke actually included stuff like Cyberpsychosis. Nikkes going insane or committing suicide if they are reminded too much that they are actually full-conversion cyborgs. The reason why they don't have a lot of cool gadgets like built-in thrusters or weapons. And then you have someone like Snow White who replaced a large chunk of her body with enemy robot parts.
Nikke is this really cool thing to have Existing in the space, even if I don't play it anymore, because of how charmingly unbalanced it is as a whole, making the charming parts of it all the more apparent.
It's got barebones gameplay, the seams of which burst the moment you do high level content and realize there's not much it can do due to its limited concept. Combat rarely translates to whatever is going on in any story thematically, being thus gameplay being more of an abstraction. There is a gulf and an ocean of power between fellow characters of the same rarity, meaning a max rarity character might do absolutely fuck all while another one, with the same odds, might snap the game in two with ease. It's story is absolutely nothing to write home about. It's a setting that can be best described as "self-indulgent incel nice guy heaven", where your character is The Only One to be nice to all these poor second class citizen superpowered voluptuous supermodel living weapons with tits two times your head and asses big and heavy enough to easily crush cars. Everything jiggles. It's so insanely predatory with its flash sales after every little thing you do.
And yet, the basic story it tells, it tells well. It's fun. It's entertaining. It knows what it is, and it has fun with itself, but it doesn't throw all pretense, either. It walks the razor-edge thin line between having a goof and telling a story with emotional depth. What it doesn't have in complexity or originality, it makes up for in sheer moment-to-moment, with good scenes, with good execution of things we've already seen. The showdown with Modernia lives rent free in my mind, Commander loading the Vapaus round, as Modernia or Marian, no way of telling, begs them to put down the weapon, because she's already back to normal, Commander shooting, and Modernia catching it with her teeth, and then growling the most guttural threat with freshest purest fury: "You shot me. Your really shot me! Shikikan!" and then drilling Commander right through the chest. And everything that happens after in that scene. It's got interactions out the wazoo, both mundane and touching. It has music that goes from "background music that really works" to "handcrafted for the moment and the character in its excellence". I think it's because Nikke knows what it is, but doesn't reach the self-mockery rung of the ladder. It knows what it's doing, and it's still sincere about it, even if it dares have fun at its own expense sometimes.
So, with that on the table, the take on Cyberpsychosis present in Nikke is incredibly powerful as a narrative tool because it tells you just how much of a jury-rigged slapdash product Nikke are. They are not cutting edge technology, they are literally something they pumped out quick as can be while telling everyone in the world that's still alive that they are cutting edge technology. And all, all of the safeguards are ultimately subject to willpower and perspective. Some Nikke go insane if they are too machine-like. Snow White has basically rebuilt herself over and over hundreds of times in her forever war. Nikke cannot aim at humans, so Crow instead puts a steel plate on the ground and ricochets her bullets off of those to shoot Commander successfully. Aiming is something you do with your senses normally, right? Rose figured out that she can just wear a blindfold and convince herself that what she's slashing is not a human, but a Rapture, and that's how she disemboweled and killed her Commander. Just by not seeing and fervently believing.
It's really, really cool how they go about it.

(Based on an ask for @pilot-boi About a Wall-E Whiteknight Au, and given Wall-e was instrumental to my childhood, I cannot help but write something for it. Because it's an AU, and they're both Human and not Robots, I took a few Liberties with the scene in the movie.)
~~~~~
Weiss was beyond frustrated. Nothing, after nothing, after nothing - no signs of life aside from the most extremophile of bacteria, protozoans, insects, and the occasional mold on fecal matter to imply the continuation of species on this gods-forsaken ball of mud.
She slammed the door of the cargo ship she was investigating shut, the rust sticking to her now dirtied gloves. Ugh.
She drifted by the crane of it, not noticing the creaks as it followed her, eventually ripping her back onto the magnet that hadn't fallen in the centuries of just sitting there.
And so Weiss snapped.
She whipped Myrtenaster out, igniting the plasmic blade and slicing the disc that held her back to pieces, before using her energetic glyphs to shred the the hulking metal antique, making it into even more scrap than it already was.
It toppled into the next ship, and then the next one, like dominoes. Deep, resonate bellows of creaks from the sudden movement after centuries of dormant stillness shook Weiss to her core.
She watched them fall, and for the time since her landing, let her feet settle against the ground. It was hard, dry, and barren, like the rest of this abandoned home. Weiss sat against an anchor, the fire and sparks filling a growing void in her chest, not unlike the one meant for plant life in her pack.
She sat there in silence - something the Passengers spoke of when in the few times she was allowed to meet them crossed her mind - A campfire. Whatever that was, it was meant to be shared with Family, something she'd been missing for a long time, her siblings being designated to different vectors of maintenance and service.
"AHem?"
Weiss reeled, drawing her sword once more, and startling a nearby person - A Person?!?
"Wer bist du?" She asked on high alert - this planet was meant to be dead, she was meant to find life here - who or what was this ... Person?
The person didn't respond, shaking violently at the sight of her blade - they appeared masculine, broad shouldered with dirty-blonde hair, though it was difficult to tell if that was due to genetics or living situation.
"Quis es?"
No Response.
"你是谁?"
No Response, but they did seem slightly less frightened given the lack of aggression.
"Chi sei?"
Their shaking slowed as they looked more inquisitive and confused than scared now.
"Qui es-tu?"
"OH! Je- Je M'appelle 'Jaune.' Vous parlez Anglais?"
"Yes I speak English."
"Oh, good!"
'Jaune' continued glancing at the glowing rapier. They seemed frightened of it still. Until he drew his own Weapon.
It wasn't as elegant as Myrtenaster, clearly older and having been used more - an old working tool for scrapping large objects, the thin, yellow sheen of plasma raced across it's edges.
"This is my Cutting tool. Your's is cool to!"
Weiss, once again, was thrown for a loop. He had drawn a dangerous device and waved it like it was a piece of extra piping.
"Jaune? Do you have a title or last name?"
The (boy?) seemed to flush at her pronunciation at his name.
"Jaune, of the A.R.C. Ministry"
"Arc?"
"Allocators of Recycled Components."
"How are you alive? Are there others like you?"
"Oh yeah! A lot, like, two hundred, three hundred others in the Bunker? Primarily we survive on Spirulina Compound. It provide most of our Oxygen and Food stuffs."
Weiss stood for a moment, deactivating her sword and pondering this - They'd been living in space for centuries. Earth was dead, barren, she was only barely able to survive due to advanced CO2 recycling.
"Have .. have you been following me?"
"Yep! You just seemed so pret-"
He was cut off by an alarm in his overalls. He lowered the visor to the helmet he wore, staring past her Weiss's shoulder.
"We need to leave Now." Jaune said, grabbing Weiss' wrist with a surprising amount of force, which she took none too kindly.
She reactived her Blade as she tore her hand away from him. "WHAT make you think You can grab me-"
"SANSTORM!" Jaune shouted, pointing past her "WE NEED TO GO, FOLLOW-"
Before he could even move to grab Weiss again, he slammed a massive tower shield in to the ground, covering himself from the blast of sand that tore at her skin and suit -
Weiss was whipped away, barely able to keep upright against the torrential winds, her Glyphs her only saving grace.
She Called out for the boy, anyone, frightened and alone, her suit's helmet the only thing allowing her to keep her eyes open even as it because scratched and muddled.
A hand found it's way to her wrist again, a dim yellow glow standing out against the violent dust letting her know she'd been found by Jaune.
It gave her some small comfort to not be alone as he dragged her somewhere, hopefully safe.
I fucking LOVE Wall-e. I made my First OC for Wall-e (Not that I knew what that meant at the time.) I had the Three-Disc Special edition, the Movie and it's Featurette Presto, The Second Disc with a gallery of the Bots, the Lots of Bots read-along, Burn-E (Who I imagine to be Qrow with his luck) and all the other special features, and the Digital Copy Disc to download it onto a Laptop or P.C. back when owning a digital copy of a movie was something special, and that's not even halve of it!
i love intern mcu!peter parker fics as much as the next person, but what i really love are the aus where peter doesn't have any powers. he's not a hero, he doesn't stick to walls, he's just a regular dude who also happens to be the genius of his generation.
in the movies, peter is always shifting in place awkwardly like he isn't used to being... him. which makes sense to me because all his life he'd been teased and made fun of by that one annoying rich kid. now that he has the physical capability to fight back, he's hesitant. like, he technically could pummel flash, but can he really? he still can't quite get used to the way his shirts fit a little tighter or how he knocks things over because he still can't manage his strength.
he still doesn't feel normal.
but for my headcanon, peter without his powers would somewhat change that.
as flash's jibes grow old and repetitive, peter gets so sick of it he just brushes it off now. rolls his eyes maybe even once or twice. because at that point, who really has the time to focus on a bully who spends most of their life coming up with terrible insults?
not peter, whose only living family is his aunt who works double shifts at the hospital.
maybe he's desperate to lift her burden somehow, and finds himself joining the robotics team because the cash prizes in those competitions are absolutely jaw-dropping.
and maybe his creations catch the attention of tony stark who takes one look at his work and goes, "hm. i haven't done that yet. who the hell do i need to hire?"
then tony meets peter for the first time and is like, "wow. he's everything i could have been when i was younger."
so peter starts his internship and maybe finds a weapon lying around randomly in the lab. he tinkers with it and makes it better, leaving it where it was without another thought on the matter.
then the black widow of all people shows up a few days later, dumping all her tools on him so that he can improve them. (she definitely didn't leave that weapon laying around to see what peter would do once he got his hands on SHIELD technology as a test of sorts.) (she also definitely didn't smile when she realised that he added a taser with enough power to down an elephant to it. definitely not.)
then it becomes a Thing.
the other avengers slowly discover that natasha's weapons have been getting better and better, "it's not fair that the black widow, already arguably the coolest looking mf out of all of them, gets favouritism in gear!" and find out about peter's contributions.
so every once in a while, they'll just drop something off at the labs, still somewhat skeptical that a child could improve cutting edge technology meant to be at the top of its game.
every single time, the gear returns infinitely better. tony is a little salty about that, because why the fuck are the avengers harassing his protege???
peter, on the other hand, is like "...yeah okay." because he literally does not even dream of the possibility that the avengers would notice him out of hundreds of staff at the tower. he literally assumes that the avengers think he's a random technician who just happens to have higher clearance.
(okay, maybe bucky barging into the labs one day with the most murderous expression on his face, staring at him intensely for a few moments before extending his arm in request for a check-up should have been a sign. but peter just assumed that it was tony's instructions because why would a superhero come to him of all people?)
then after many, many rounds of interviews and interrogations, courtesy of SHIELD, peter is finally given clearance to design custom weapons for the heroes. (he already has 20 blueprints shoved inconspicuously in his desk drawer.)
like, i would really like to see peter's human side be explored more in fics!!!!
Hello. Teehee. I saw your post about tenna post traumatic epilepsy and. I am wondering if you had more thoughts on that. I am intrigued. Enamored even. Pretty Please :)
GRINS AND SMILES. okay I'm gonna also point at @orange-t-apple because he's the guy that turns all the characters epileptic. because he's correct forever. BUT. smile !!!!! Tenna epilepsy. .. . he's so freaking neat to me. and I LOVE figuring out the specifics of whatever may be freaking going on. a robot? who seizes ? goldmine. I get to figure out his anatomy AND how his wires work! !!!
cracks knuckles. SO. when Tenna gets murder or whatever, even if he got kinda fixed, he's still got some funky wires that get all wonky and do weird things. aka. seize. because he seizes. (his seizures are also different from his shutdowns. smile. because I loveeee this guy with C-PTSD. and he's had those a lot longer than he's had pte)
he seizes both in the dark world and in the lightworld. they just present in different but similar ways; in general, his aura presents as minor twitching in his fingers and just generally feeling somewhat weird, along with static at the edge of his screen.
In the darkworld, once he actually starts seizing, it's general seizure symptoms of stiff limbs and convulsing, along with a flickering/static in his screen, general bits of him shutting on and off(like his fans), and his volume not able to actively stay under half volume until his seizure protocol kicks in.
His seizures in the lightworld are somewhat similar, but focus more on his display than his body(because. .. he doesn't have one. .. ). His screen is constantly switching between static and chopped up frames of whatever he can get his hands on(only blinking off some of the time), with mixed and incorrect audio constantly feeding in and switching every few seconds, fans cutting in and out, and again, his volume unable to be lowered past half(if you actively lower hsi volume with the dial, it'll quickly turn back up and wobble between like. all the way up and most of the way up).
FOR HIS SEIZURE PROTOCOL. it includes unplugging him from his power(wether its the core in his body or just in a wall) and laying him down(only if needed or manageable), and making sure he doesn't like. throw himself into anything. After about five minutes he'll lose his charge(because he's special and a cutie and gets to hold a good charge <3). After the charge runs out, his display is off most of the time, sometimes flickering static or feed of something random. With his body, his more sensitive parts(think fingers or perhaps antenna. bits that take a lot less to move) keep twitching. His volume still gets loud but doesn't quite get to max, and if you turn down his dial manually it'll take longer to slide back up.
His seizures take about 10-14 minutes depending on how quickly he gets unplugged and how severe it is. there's a couple different ways to tell if it's ended; he has a little tool that gets put in somewhere to see what kind of electrical current is still going(this is the most reliable, but it's also invasive because it requires opening him up. I don't think we decided kind of. where it goes), the other way is just kind of. . .waiting and watching him. waiting for his screen to stop flickering and for him to stop twitching. being able to turn his volume off without it turning back on. just until his signs are gone.
once he gets plugged back in it takes a second for him to know what's going on; on a subconcious level, he's making sure everything is put back in working order/as it was beforehand, which leaves him kind of generally out of it. after a while of making sure he doesn't seize again he probably takes a fat nap for everything to fix itself. it's probably a couple hours depending on the severity, and then he's better afterwards. SMILE !!!
also !!!! I want to mention there's probably things that will change or get added. . . because one of us is going "do you think he does ___" and the other one will say "yeagh" and then. smiles. it's added(<- guy who's thinking about maybe freaking. todds paralysis post seizure.). I like thinking about him seizing SO FREAKIGN MUCH !!! because it's just so neaties. and it's fun to put him into situations and see what people around him would do. I believe we decided that MTT in particular thought he was just having an episode and freaked out when none of his normal soothing tactics were working and just ended up unplugging him. it's so neaties !!!!!
#asks#oh man. .. smiles. . .sorry it's so freaking fun to figure out his robot seizures#he gets things special style bcause he's a robot. and things have to be changed about that. smile. because he's special#also also. my APOLOGIES if it's incoherent or not what you're looking for. scratches head. I don't know how to communicate ever in my life#but !!! SMILES !!!! TENNA SEIZURES !!! POST TRAUMATIC EPILEPSY !!!
19th's Steam Next Fest Impressions Feb 2025 Edition - Day 5
Day 0/Day 1/Day 2/Day 3/Day 4
Maze Mice
youtube
Pac Man Vampire Survivors from the creator of Luck Be A Landlord.
It's specifically pac man championship edition. Run around in a maze, gathering XP crystals with sleeping cats next to them. Once you run past the cat, it becomes a chaser. As you kill cats you start getting chased by ghost cats that can ignore the rules of the maze.
This is a combination I'm surprised no one had thought of earlier. Both are about kiting enemies and both are about collecting small doodads on a looping map. It works smoothly and efficiently.
My first complaint is one that's probably only for the demo: For a survivor like-the upgrade selection feels really limited, especially the minimalist loadout before you start unlocking things. I was starting to see the oppurtunity for "builds" near the end, but then I was cut off from any more tools. This will probably not be the case for the final release.
Second is probably a more contraversial complaint, core to the game's design: Its implementation of the Superhot rule. Time only moves when you do. I get it. This rule slots really well into a survivor-like, both in terms of "gives the player a breather" and "adds tension to the incredibly tight squeezes that the late game provides." But it looses the kinetic feel that made Pac Man Champion Edition exciting. I kinda hope the final release will have a hard mode that removes this handicap.
Also music is good.
Whisper of the House
youtube
An Unpacking-like. You're a new resident in Whisper City, and open a housekeeping business. Help your neighbors move in and organize their spaces.
As expected from the robot assistant, this game takes place in a less grounded and open setting than Unpacking. While I do like being able to actually explore the town instead of just straight jumping from house to house, there is something lost from a less focused framing. Not a single owner through several houses, but several owners in the same town.
That isn't to say the game doesn't go for any narrative. After the first job, helping a dog lover decorate her new apartment, you're contacted by a super-scientist type to try his new time machine. His grandfather had gotten ill after overexerting himself moving house, and he wants you to avert that. While the premise is silly, there's a gentle melancholy to the whole proceeding.
The game also lets you use it to revisit previous houses, and there's a newspaper system where you see stories about the characters you've helped, so I'm guessing variable outcomes to your jobs will be the norm.
I do hope they up the "houses have hidden secrets" aspect the trailer plays up. Either I was missing a lot, or the demo doesn't really push that too hard. The first one had one hidden room as a gag, and I couldn't find one for the 2nd.
Centum
youtube
Centum is… kind of hard to describe. The simplest answer would be "a point and click adventure about escaping a simulation" but I feel like that answer is incomplete, if not entirely false.
The game starts with a computer loading up, and you're faced with several text files. Complaints about how a simulation needs to be kept running, how someone is sabotaging the project, and instructions to run a .bat file if something goes wrong. You do so and wake up in a medieval looking prison cell, being interrogated by a multi-headed judge. Both the questions and answers available are vague.
Which leads to my first complaint. The prose is… edging into purple. Everyone is speaking in flowery metaphor and it feels like lines could be shaved down a bit. I'm still getting the general gist, but I can see its voice being a turnoff for a lot of people.
From there it's 3 days of imprisonment. Three days of questioning, three days of incredibly simple puzzles, until judgement is passed on you. Once done so, you're returned to the desktop, with new files on the screen. repeat.
I will sing the praises that the game is incredibly reactive. I said the puzzles were simple, but that's because each one had several solutions at hand. Even though it always ended the same, they felt like branch points. I played through it multiple times and got a lot of different text and imagery each go through. I can see this game being good for people who like to secret hunt.
The art direction and pixel art is beautiful and grotesque. While the prose might be flawed, the visuals more than make up for it.
It's up in the air if it'll stick the landing, but it's got a few good flips in so far.
Everhood 2
youtube
I really liked the first everhood, even if I think it didn't quite stick the landing with it's thematic stuff in its closing act. I was genuinely interested in seeing where they went from there. "Everhood 2" was a genuine surprise.
It is kinda funny. Everhood was, in a lot of ways, a direct response to Undertale. Everhood 2… opens with a questionnaire about your personal tastes and fears. You know, like Deltarune.
The game is an immediate step up from its predecessor on a mechanical level. The beatmaps feel better to dodge, especially if starting on hard, and you get a fully fledged retaliation system right away, something Everhood only played with at the very end.
dodge on the beat map, absorb notes of consecutive color, launch them back at the opponent. At least one color will do super effective damage. The longer your absorb chain, the more damaging the move, but attacks can also clear bullets in front of you, and getting hit causes you to drop your "ammo," so to speak. There's a push-your-luck aspect going on that works really well. There's apparently going to be a weapon system but the demo doesn't touch on it.
My main complaint is that, in Everhood, every fight you enter is for the most part unique and plot important. There's now a leveling system and, for lack of a better term, filler fights, repeated enemies who have the same beatmap pattern.
Other complaint is that, compared to Everhood 1's opening, this one has much less of a plot hook. Despite all the psychadelics and cosmic intrigue in the first one, it opened with a simple conflict. Your arm was stolen by some shit guys, get it back.
Here you basically jump into a hole, are attacked by a monster, saved by a character named raven who is a raven who gives you the tutorial and tells us we need to prove we're strong enough to help him. And we do that by retrieving a crystal he specifically hid. There isn't a sense of a driving conflict yet.
Of course you can also read this as confidence. "We proved ourselves with our first game, we're willing to have slower setup." Still looking forward to it either way.
Strand
youtube
Time loop puzzle game. You wake up in a seemingly empty space station, your memory implant having failed, and all machinery at low power. Find out wha happun.
A lot of the puzzles are variations on "what's the password?" The kind of info that can carry across loops.
There is some item combining but they tend to be the inbetween step of a puzzle. not something you need to redo every time.
There is a very "english as second language" feel here but that mainly only comes through the VA accents and a bit of odd wording here and there. No translation trainwrecks this time.
It's alright. Not sure the scale they're going for, though. Could be a game that's only a couple hours long, could be one that goes for well over a dozen.
Sliding Hero
youtube
Pseudo-metroidvania exploration puzzle game where the entire world is an elaborate sliding puzzle.
Depending on who you are this sounds like an interesting conceit or it sounds fucking intolerable.
Our Jester-Ass hero is stuck in an expansive Venitian villa filled with the undead, and for reasons not thoroughly explained he can't walk like a normal person, sliding until he hits a wall.
I will admit, I am a fan. I like that this game turns the most basic of traversal into something of a brain teaser. Since you'll be backtracking with upgrades metroidvania style, though, a lot of those exploration puzzles will have to be done twice, front to back and back to front.
The combat is just a more advanced version of this dynamic. Enemy rooms have weapon/tools lying around. Find a way to land on the weapon tile to pick it up, and then ram the enemy. You only have a set number of times until it breaks, and you'll also sometimes have to rely on an enemy being there to stop you early and make an impossible turn possible. Thankfully enemies don't respawn, so these only need to be tackled once.
I like it's macabre/Italian Blasphemous aesthetic, although it clashes with the peppy Zelda-ish chimes when you get correct answers.
I didn't finish it, but not becuase I wasn't having fun, just out of a combination of time pressure, getting the gist, and being a bit mentally worn out for puzzles.
Unit 819
The first image is a moment frozen in ambition. This is Archie Gray, not just a person, but a promise. He is 18, and the fabric of the Tottenham Hotspur jersey he pulls at is a second skin, woven from the dreams of floodlit stadiums and the roar of thousands. The blue light is dramatic, carving out the sharp angles of a face filled with the intense, focused arrogance of youth. His eyes hold the fire of a competitor. He is a rising star, a valuable asset on the pitch, his body a finely tuned instrument of athletic will.
The fall begins not with a tackle, but with a lie. The invitation was framed as a cutting-edge sponsorship deal, a meeting with a new tech conglomerate looking for the face of their brand. The meeting room was on the 34th floor of a featureless glass tower, overlooking a city that seemed to hold its breath for him. The water they offered him tasted clean. It was the last thing he remembered before the world dissolved into a soft, humming darkness.
Phase 1: The Stripping of the Idol
He awakens to the sterile white of a Repurposing cell. Panic, hot and sharp, is the first thing he feels. He is an athlete; his body is his weapon and his shield. He springs to his feet, but the walls are seamless, the silence absolute. His physical power is useless here.
A door slides open. Two handlers in grey uniforms enter. They are not intimidated by his physique; they move with a placid, unnerving confidence. Archie braces himself for a fight, but they don't engage. Instead, a barely audible, high-frequency tone fills the room, buckling his knees and sending a wave of nausea through him. As he slumps to the floor, disoriented, they approach.
They don't undress him. They unmake him. With cold, sharp instruments, they cut the Hotspur jersey from his body. He watches as the cockerel crest, the iconic AIA logo, the fabric he revered, is sliced apart and peeled from his skin like a worthless rind. It is a desecration. The pieces are fed into a pneumatic tube and vanish with a soft thump. His boots, designed for explosive speed on grass, are unlaced and removed. His entire identity as a footballer is systematically dismantled and discarded.
He is then forced into the purple polo. The fabric is thick, cheap, and restrictive. It chafes his neck. The "Currys" logo sits where the club crest should be, a brand of mundane servitude replacing a symbol of glory.
Phase 2: The Taming of the Mane
He is restrained in a chair, his head clamped into place. He expects the "follicular zeroing tool" he has heard whispers of, but the machine that descends is different. It is an array of robotic arms tipped with nozzles, combs, and heating elements. This is not erasure; it is forced conformity.
His hair, the unruly curls of a teenager, is targeted. A cold gel is applied, followed by a meticulous, invasive styling. Each curl is separated, straightened, and reshaped by the robotic arms. The process is unnervingly precise, forcing his hair into a neat, static, corporate-approved quiff. Any struggle, any tensing of his neck muscles, is met with a sharp, corrective pressure from the head clamp. He is being groomed like an animal, his last vestige of personal style tamed into bland submission.
Phase 3: The Extinguishing of the Fire
The most brutal phase is the "Affective Imprinting." A screen lowers before his eyes, displaying footage of his own greatest moments on the pitch: a blistering run down the wing, a ferocious tackle, the raw, screaming celebration after a goal. The fire in his eyes, the passion that defined him, is played back to him.
"Observe and replicate the target expression," the synthesized voice commands. On the right side of the screen, the placid, friendly smile from the corporate template appears.
Instinctively, as he watches himself celebrate, a flicker of pride crosses his face. A jolt of pain, sharp and electric, lances through the sensors on his temples. "Incorrect response," the voice states. "Passion is a non-compliant emotion. Aggression is a non-compliant emotion. Pride is a non-compliant emotion."
They show him the footage again. He is forced to watch his own triumphs and overlay them with the dead-eyed, pleasant smile of a retail assistant. He is being conditioned to associate his own success with pain, to replace the fire in his soul with calculated friendliness. The process is repeated for hours, until the sight of a football pitch triggers not adrenaline, but the conditioned reflex of a placid, empty grin.
Phase 4: The Unveiling of the Unit
The final photo is the proof of concept. He is placed against the light-blue backdrop. "Assume position," the voice commands. His body obeys. The smile locks into place. The camera flashes.
A supervisor reviews the two images on a tablet—the fiery young athlete in the blue light, and the placid employee in the purple polo. The transformation is a masterpiece of the program. They have taken a unique, celebrated talent and turned him into a generic, interchangeable unit. He is no longer Archie Gray. He is Unit 819.
His first deployment is to the television section. A father and son, both in football shirts, approach him. "Excuse me," the father says, "we're looking for a new TV. What's best for watching the footy? Something with a good refresh rate, you know?"
The ghost of Archie Gray screams in the silent prison of his own mind. But Unit 819's smile remains perfect. "An excellent question," he hears his own voice say, calm and helpful. "For fast-moving sports, you'll want to prioritize a native 120Hz panel to minimize motion blur. The LG C-series, for example, offers exceptional pixel response time, which is ideal for tracking the ball..."
He is now an expert on how to best watch the game he was born to play, a game he will never play again. The transformation is absolute.
Unwind with the breathtaking beauty of deep-sea hydrothermal vents 🔥✨
Some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth lie deep beneath the ocean’s surface. Volcanic activity on the seafloor creates scattered oases known as hydrothermal vents. These underwater geysers spew superheated water rich in dissolved minerals. When that scalding-hot water comes in contact with frigid deep-ocean water, the minerals crystallize, raining tiny flecks of “ash” to the seafloor. Those mineral deposits build up over time, creating breathtaking spires and “chimneys” that can grow to hundreds of feet tall.
Less than 25 percent of the seafloor has been mapped at the same level of detail as the Moon or Mars. MBARI’s mission is to advance marine science and technology to understand our changing ocean—from the surface to the seafloor. For nearly four decades, MBARI has explored the deep ocean, recording thousands of hours of video with our remotely operated vehicles and mapping thousands of kilometers of seafloor using advanced robots. Together, these tools are helping to create a clearer picture of the amazing environments hidden in the ocean’s inky depths.
The astonishing communities that live on and around hydrothermal vents have evolved to flourish under extreme temperatures and chemical conditions. The remarkable tubeworms, crabs, clams, and more that thrive here are found nowhere else on Earth.
Now, with more companies looking to extract mineral resources from the ocean, it is more important than ever to study the deep sea and the wonders it holds. The maps we create and the data we collect can help resource managers make informed decisions about the ocean, its inhabitants, and its resources. Together, we can safeguard these unique biological and geological treasures.
Learn more about how MBARI uses cutting-edge technologies to gain unprecedented access to the deep seafloor.
modern!AU, just some bartender Geto. this was supposed to be a drabble ya know. Pairing: Geto x reader Word count: 2k exactly Warning: some alcohol, smoking, an annoying guy at a bar
A strange sound from a familiar voice catches Geto out of guard as it breaks through the music, making him lift his eyes from the clinking glasses to scan the space over the bar counter. It had been a mostly calm night at the Devilock, a rare feat he was ready to commemorate before he heard the noise. And there it was again, the angry grunting. And he was sure it was your voice.
Looking around once more, his eyes pierce through the crowd that gathered to watch the band. He doesn’t need to do much looking, however, as soon he spots you, coming to sit down at a corner of the counter, quickly followed by a strange man that sits beside you. And you don’t seem all that happy with the situation. Without thinking, Geto makes his way from his corner of the counter up to you. His mouth contorted into a tight, sly smile.
“Hey there, doll. My favorite patron needing anything?” His voice cuts through the music, the tightness of his smile spreading to his tone.
Geto sees your eyes lit up when he appears, but not in a way he likes. You’d often have a gleam in your eye when you approached him at the counter, but it was always a flirtatious charm. This time, it looked almost as if you had just spotted safe shelter in the middle of a storm. He didn’t like it one bit.
“Hey, Suguru,” you start, and Geto can feel a slight tremor in your voice, your usual cheerful tone constrained into something uncomfortable, “can you see me a co-”
“The doll here and I are gonna have a Negroni,” the man cuts you off, and Geto notices the way you stiffen at his voice, causing his eye to twitch.
“I didn’t say I was drinking with you,” you respond, looking the man up and down before you turn back to Geto, and although you are slurring, there is clear disdain in your voice. “Just a coke.”
“A coke and a Negroni then.”
Geto interjects in a harsh tone before the man can say anything else. He can feel bile rising to his throat, a part of him wanting to punch the guy right now, but he knows he can’t just jump on costumers. At least, not without a good reason. So he settles for the menacing tone, quickly turning to one of the fridges and grabbing a coke, turning around and pouring it for you, hardened stare set on the strange man.
You thank him quietly, and he smiles, but it doesn’t reach his eyes. He can feel every fiber in his body tense, every muscle tight and on the edge. Geto tries to tell himself that he is just worried about you, as he would with any patron - wishfully trying to ignore the clear rage burning in him. But deep inside, he knows that the dread that settles in his stomach as he turns around to prepare the drink is more than normal worry.
Well, he can unpack this thought later.
“Come on, doll, you should have a drink with me. We could have some fun.”
The moment Geto turns his back to the counter, he can hear the man’s voice again. Disgusting. It sounds slimy and disgusting. And it settles in his spine the wrong way. His darkened eyes flicker to the mirror on the wall before him, spying on the situation to make sure the bastard doesn’t cross a line. He tugs his sleeves lower out of a nervous habit, almost as if he can feel the things they are meant to hide slipping out as Geto’s fist itches to find that guy’s face.
It’s like the loud music in the bar is almost drowned in the moment, all Geto can hear is the man’s voice and the clinking of his tools as he prepares the drink. His movements are fast and almost robotic, long fingers moving at top speed. His eyes keep darting from the task at hand up to the well positioned mirror - a clever way for the bartenders to manage to keep an eye on the bar while their backs are to the counter.
“Thanks, but no,” you reply, barely hiding a sneer. The man tries to put an arm around your shoulder, but you manage to avoid his touch. Utterly disgusting.
“Come on, baby, don’t be so stuck up, you are too pretty for that.”
“She already said no,” Geto interjects just as he slides the drink in front of the guy, lips pulled in a thin line, he is pretty sure a vein is popping on his face by now.
“Eh?” The man turns to Geto with narrowed eyes, looking way too smug for someone trying his best to pester a drunk woman at a bar. “What do you even know? We are just having a chat, run along, Mr. bartender.”
The man finishes his phrase with a chuckle before he drinks from his glass, the sound of his laugh almost making Geto gag. He only turns his eyes to you, not moving an inch, strong arms crossing over his broad chest. He wouldn’t dare leave you alone right now - there are other bartenders in the counter, he can hold his position for a few more minutes.
“I’m not interested, I think you should leave me alone,” your voice is cold now, despite the slight slurring, your blunt words making the guy freeze in place.
“Clear enough for you? I think it’s your time to leave.”
Geto just turn his eyes to the man, leering with white hot rage as he runs his tongue piercing over the back of his teeth, another nervous tick he’d picked up. He is almost on the edge, every nerve in his body telling him to solve this the old way he knows so well. But he reminds himself the last thing he needs after turning his life around is to go picking fights with people. He rather likes his freedom. But he is sure the manager would help cover up for him in this case.
“Come on, we are just partying, just having fun.”
The guy tries to reach out and touch you again, one hand holding his drink to his lips as you start cowering away. But Geto is faster this time, his large hand wraps around the man’s wrist in a death grip, veins popping in his forearm as his fingers tighten with a crushing force. The man whines at the aggression, and Geto scoffs. He doesn’t like displaying violence casually, this guy had already pushed his luck.
From the corner of his eyes, he can see his manager standing at the counter and looking in their direction. Those angry eyes move from the troublesome costumer to Geto with a snapping motion. Had it been when he’d just started the job, he’d been scared of losing his lifeline. But by this point he already knew his manager well enough to tell he was just in stand by to see if Geto would need help.
The rule at the Devilock was that violence was a solution to be used in moderation. But it could still be used.
“She said leave,” Geto repeats through gritted teeth, pulling the man in closer to him by the wrist, making him lean on the counter enough to see the work station underneath. “And I’m gonna give you two options, you leave by yourself through the front door, or I drag you through the backdoor, and you’re gonna see a different type of party.”
Geto’s eyes flicker from the front door back to the counter as he speaks, the man looking at him in clear fear. To punctuate his last line, he uses his free hand to pick up one of the big knives in the work station and sinks it in the cutting board, the sharp blade glistening in the dim bar light. When Geto let’s go of his wrist, the guy almost falls back, wide eyes looking between terror and rage as he almost falls off.
At the end, he just steps away, quickly finding his own way out of the door. Geto sighs as the tension unwinds, putting the knife back in place and thanking his lucky starts that this didn’t lead to anything else. Now he really needed a fucking smoke.
“Thank you,” your soft voice cuts through his thoughts as you drag on the last word in an almost melodic way, “my knight in shining armor.”
Geto scoffs, looking at you with kind eyes. You were clearly drunk, skipping fast from discomfort back to your usual flirting with him. At another time he’d play along - even if he knew he couldn’t go much past just the flirting - but right now he could still feel the stress in his bones. Different from you, he was fully sober.
“I’m anything but,” he responds with a tense chuckle, finally getting a good look at you as you lean your torso on the counter. “What was that?”
“That’s what I get when I’m polite,” you slur.
“Word to the wise, save your politeness for when you are sober, and the bar isn’t so packed.”
“Oh, I’m not that drunk,” you protest, and he can’t help but laugh, “by the way could you put some rum in my coke?”
You try to give him your best puppy eyes, and suddenly Geto is laughing. It’s like the stress is removed from his shoulders as that usual gleam returns to your gaze. But he wasn’t falling for that, you were clearly drunk.
“You can’t fool me, doll, you’ve had enough alcohol for tonight. Finish your coke, then I’ll get you some water.”
“Aw, now you’re being too knightly,” you respond with a pout, and Geto can’t help but think it’s adorable. “But it’s cute, because it means you care about me.”
You are back to the flirtatious tone, and Geto feels his cheeks burning as he hears the snickering laughs of his manager. Quickly, he looks down to the sink, getting busy with washing the glasses, hoping the dim light of the bar won’t reveal the red in his face. You have a way of getting under his skin, and it almost makes him forget all the stress of the world around you both.
“Yeah, no more alcohol for you, for sure,” he shoots back with a soft laugh.
You stay on the counter and does as he says, it doesn’t take much for you to sober up again. That night, Geto walks you out of the bar, using his smoke break to wait with you for your cab. The hour is late, the streets outside are empty, save for the two of you. Geto enjoys those peaceful few minutes with you more than he knows he should. When it’s over, he just stands alone, contemplating the smoke from his cigarette as it seeps into the air, trying not to think of how he wants to see you again already.
Just as his smoke break is ending, and he is about to go back, Geto spots an unwelcomed face peeking from the corner of the street, only partially illuminated by the cold lamp post. It’s the guy he’d kicked off earlier. The man tries to jump him but ends up with his back hitting the ground. He picked a fight with the wrong guy.
The man gets up to his feet, seeping with anger. Geto isn’t interested in starting anything, but he isn’t beyond defending himself. Violence was a solution to be used in moderation. But it could still be used. Though, tonight he didn’t even need to fight. Just as Geto steps under the lamp light and rolls up his sleeves to get into a fighting stance, the man freezes, eyes wide in fear again before he starts scrambling back.
Shit, now he needed another cigarette, but his smoke break had just ended. Well, back to the bar it is.
4me4you Features “monotonous routines”.
ARTIST: RetroFuture_Dystopia
4me4you proudly features digital artist Brice Rozenfarb, also known by his Instagram handle @RetroFuture_Dystopia. Brice invites us into a world where the future is a 1960s dream, forever frozen in time. In this AI-powered photographic documentary titled "Retro-Futuristic Dystopia: A 1960s AI Odyssey," Brice crafts a world where robots dominate and society hums with eerie efficiency, yet remains devoid of human emotion and creativity. The result is a hauntingly beautiful alternate reality—a blend of nostalgia for a bygone era and the advanced technology of a distant future.
Behind this mesmerising visual narrative is Brice, a Paris-based creative who has spent over a decade honing his skills as an art director. His deep-rooted passion for diverse artistic mediums—ranging from film photography to graphic design—has driven him to constantly push creative boundaries. When he turned his attention to artificial intelligence as a new tool for artistic exploration, Brice began to envision a world where the elegance and optimism of the 1960s collided with a robotic, dystopian future.
Drawing inspiration from iconic pop culture visuals like "Star Wars," "Chappie," and "2001: A Space Odyssey," Brice masterfully blends these influences with the retro-futuristic aesthetic to produce something both familiar and innovative. His admiration for artists like Simon Stålenhag, known for merging sci-fi with everyday life, has also shaped his work.
"Retro-Futuristic Dystopia: A 1960s AI Odyssey" is a testament to Brice Rozenfarb's unique vision, merging vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge AI technology. The result is a compelling narrative that resonates deeply with both nostalgia and the ever-evolving possibilities of the future.
mmc magical girl AU lore dump:
The year is 20XX. The world is slowly approaching a post-scarcity utopia supported by unprecedented advances in technology and science. Quantum and classical physics have been united, asteroid mining has made electronic components cheap and abundant, medical technology guarantees a higher quality of life, and most recently, inorganic matter has been able to be converted into data and back.
Dr. Light and Dr. Wily developed a “robotic support system”, a type of protective suit integrated with incredibly advanced robotic tools for specific dangerous tasks, like rescues, handling hazardous material, or performing tasks in extreme environments. Light wants the suits to be used to help advance the frontiers of science, while Wily is more interested in its military applications despite large-scale conflicts being minimal in the present day. These support systems are integrated into the body to the point that removing them requires special equipment (think like an HEV suit), but the suits themselves are very powerful and cutting-edge. Light’s proposal to use them for scientific reasons is what ultimately wins out, and Wily is shunned for pushing for military use. Soon after this, Wily simply vanishes without a trace, which bothers Light but he can’t do anything about it.
At some point Light saves his oldest son, Blues, from dying of a heart condition with a suit prototype (LRSS-000) that regulates his heart rate and provides strength for his weakened body, but Blues had already accepted his death and doesn’t take having his body tampered with super well and ends up leaving home. Light creates generic support systems in the form of LRSS-001 and 002, proving the non-weaponized potential that the support system has, where his twin children Rock and Roll happily volunteer to demonstrate them with great success. Light then deploys LRSS-003 to 008 with handpicked candidates, qualified university graduates and trade employees, for use in scientific and industrial fields.
Wily shows up some years later and declares war on the world with his own version of the robotic support system, and a handful of 20-somethings that he’s coerced/bribed/blackmailed into piloting them, calling them “Bion Masters”. The suits are ridiculously powerful and there are far less military resources out there than in modern day due to the general state of peace in the world, so nothing can stop them. Rock and Roll both volunteer themselves to fight against Wily, but Light can’t bear to let either of them face danger after nearly losing Blues. Though Light’s Bion Masters try their best to fight back, they don’t have the same weaponized capabilities that Wily’s do and are slowly defeated and abducted one by one, each disappearance further weighing on Light’s conscience.
The most egregious act comes when Wily and Shadow Man break into the Light residence and kidnap Rock and Roll and their support systems, absolutely shattering Light’s will to fight back. Before he vanishes, Rock tells his father that he can’t give up here and urges him to resist Wily for everyone’s sake.
Light makes the difficult decision to weaponize the second series of support systems he’s been developing and seek out people who have enough courage to take on Wily’s forces. He finds the first seven users relatively quickly, but the last support system, 016, has so much dangerous potential that Light hesitates to find a user for it…
Light’s (Current) Bion Masters:
LRSS-009 “Concrete Man”
Good Point: Gets the job done Bad Point: Self-righteous Likes: Fulfilling work Dislikes: Laziness
The support system was designed for construction. In battle, he’s most effective at backline support, civilian rescue and damage mitigation, but has quite a lot of raw physical strength for defense. Concrete Shot can immobilize enemies.
LRSS-010 “Tornado Man”
Good Point: Confident Bad Point: Slacker Likes: New experiences Dislikes: Working
The support system was designed for weather management and mitigating storm damage. In battle, he acts as the leader and has quick mobility, focusing on clearing out large groups of enemies and moving victims of Wily’s assaults to safe areas. Tornado Blow can throw even heavy enemies into the air and damage them upon impact with the ground.
LRSS-011 “Splash Woman”
Good Point: Hard worker Bad Point: Moody Likes: Self-care Dislikes: Having her time wasted
The support system was designed for rescuing shipwreck survivors. In battle, she can fight up-close and excels at underwater combat and has small fish-like robots she can call on for extra support. Laser Trident can cut cleanly through metal and destroy robotic enemies.
LRSS-012 “Plug Man”
Good Point: Quick learner Bad Point: Over-exciteable Likes: Technology Dislikes: Boring tasks
The support system was designed for delicate but high-powered electronic manufacturing. In battle he’s a long-ranged fighter that can use both physical and electrical projectiles. Plug Ball can spread across surfaces and short-circuit any machines that aren’t hermetically sealed.
LRSS-013 “Jewel Man” Good Point: Stylish Bad Point: Self-Centered Likes: Interesting things Dislikes: Being rejected
The support system was designed for jewel mining. In battle, he’s a very fast and up-close brawler that can even claw metal apart. Jewel Satellite can protect him from energy shots and damage enemies on contact.
LRSS-014 “Hornet Man” Good Point: Compassionate Bad Point: Pushover Likes: Nature Dislikes: Selfishness
The support system was designed for botany and environmental science work. In battle, he’s primarily a backline fighter that provides remote support. Hornet Chaser can pursue enemies and pierce through metal with lasers.
LRSS-015 “Magma Man”
Good Point: Calm Bad Point: A little dense Likes: Traveling Dislikes: Staying indoors
The support system was designed for work in volcanic environments. In battle, he’s a very slow but powerful frontline fighter. Magma Bazooka can melt through metal armor with direct shots.
LRSS-016 “Galaxy Man” Good Point: Creative Bad Point: No people-skills Likes: Science Dislikes: Strangers
The support system was designed for performing spacewalks and maintenance on space stations and satellites. In battle, they’re highly mobile and can hit devastatingly hard, but are themself fragile. Black Hole Bomb can suck up pretty much anything that isn’t tied down or attached to the ground, so it can destroy huge groups of enemies at once.
...That's everything I have formally written down, at least, but I've also made a lot of offhand remarks when brainstorming for this.
