2025年1月23日(木)は、日の出の時刻を過ぎても東の地平線付近の雲が晴れず、アクセラレータを搭載しないK-3 IIにはつらい状況だったが、高感度性能を試すいい機会となった。

この写真はISO6400で撮影したRAWを、DxO PhotoLab 8のDeepPRIME XD/XD2sでノイズ処理した。もちろん胸を張って公開できるような画質ではないが、野鳥観察の証拠写真には十分だ。

上の写真はISO5000、下の写真はISO1250。左がK-3 IIのボディ内現像、右がDxOでノイズ処理したもの。

K-3 IIでボディ内現像した画像をそのまま使えるのは、ISO800ぐらいが限界だろうか。一方、DxOのノイズリダクションは、ISO感度が高いほど効果が顕著で、ISO5000なら2～3段分の効果がありそうだ。

DxO PhotoLabは、ノイズリダクションも強力だが、ボディとレンズの組み合わせに応じたシャープネス処理も非常に強力だ。

風景写真のように、PENTAX独自の色を重視したい場合には使えないが、野鳥のように解像感を重視したい場合にはありがたい存在だ。軽量コンパクト（かつ安価）なレンズで撮った野鳥でも、大口径超望遠レンズで撮ったような画像に仕上がることもある。

バードウォッチングにK-3 IIを持ち出す場合は、これからも重宝しそうだ。
