Last session Ash got to lead a cavalry charge against a bunch of ghouls, which means I got the rare chance to use their paladin mount in context.

Ignore the fact that they ride a flame-antlered stag into battle. They're not an evil character pinky promise!

Why does the concept of a wild kratts and pokemon crossover work so well

When I asked for suggestions the other day a lot of people asked for pokemon content but at the time I was just doing some sketches. However, I was inspired to take a crack at it a little later! And alas here is Chris' team. (He's a grass primary obviously) (... is it obvious what my favorite gen is.......?)

I feel like he wouldn't be a pokemon trainer though... more like a researcher.... so basically the same exact thing they do in Wild Kratts... except with pokemon in the place of real animals. And their pokemon are considered more of companions and teammates that can help on adventures. (Maybe occasionally helping with villain encounters?) Idk! It's not like a whole AU I wanna dive into but I thought it would be fun to draw as a one-off thing :] Not sure if I'll make it through the whole crew, but I'm definitely working on Martin next. Most of my fav pokemon are water types so I'm really excited!

Bearstar of MustangClan

Original name was Bearclaw, son of the previous leader, Trunkstar. Succeeded his father after Trunkstar gave up his final life defending his grandkits from an attacking predator.

No mate, he had his children sired by one of his Clanmates, Firetail. They remain good friends, Firetail has no interest in parenting. They had the litter in winter with only two surviving kits: Redkit and Branchkit.

A strict leader and a strict father, Bearstar is a cat of few words who often prefers to lead by example. He's rarely in the camp, often out on patrols.

He's a bit more thoughtful than his predecessors and is more ready to negotiate, especially as he grows older. He wants his Clan to have peace for his daughter's rule, and he knows the time he has left is waning.

Not very fast but an absolute tank, hard to take down. When he hits, he hits hard.

Troutstar of SerpentClan

Original name was Trouttail, succeeded his mother, Pikestar, after she opted to retire from old age. She passed peacefully before she could meet her grandkits.

Old as fuuuuuck, blind completely in one eye and losing vision in the other thanks to cataracts. He prefers to stay in camp nowadays.

Saugerleap and Pikesnap were his second litter of kittens, the first having passed away after a terrible fire. Troutstar was a clingy parent at first, but he's learned to let them have their space.

He had a mate, Lakeripple, in the past but he passed of illness when Saugerleap and Pikesnap were still kits. They don't remember their other father that much so Troutstar often tells them stories.

Keen on negotiating, not so much fighting. He'll do everything in his power to avoid a fight if he can help it, something that annoys his eldest son, Pikesnap.

Used to be stricter and more high strung as a warrior, mellowed out with leadership. Nowadays, he lets his sons manage things so they can find their own style of leading.

He'll definitely pick a son to lead so soon, very soon, but first, another walk. The lake is beautiful today after all.

Dawnstar of BoarClan

Dawnstar's original name was Dawngaze. Dawnstar succeeded both of her parents, Sunstar and Cougarstar, in battle.

Met Smokestar, then named Smokey, after sneaking out of the camp. She liked the feeling of rebelliousness that came with hanging out with him, though it soon turned into more.

Dawngaze grew up in a time where her parents were leading attack after attack on the neighboring Clans, chipping at their territory in preparation for the incoming winter. Growing up seeing her friends and loved ones constantly pushed into battle after battle withered her faith in her parents leadership.

This and a desire to bring Smokey into the Clan resulted in her challenging her parents to a battle for leadership. These duels are usually to the death but Dawnstar one and opted to break that cycle and letting them live, to which they opted to live in a self-imposed exile than stay in the Clan.

She didn't come out unscathed. She's got a massive scar on her throat that makes her voice have a rasp to it and a slight limp in her back leg from where her leg was broken during the match.

The victory commanded massive amounts of respect and clout, not just within BoarClan, but all the Clans - something she used to bring Smokey into the Clan aaannnd is using to help mitigate the unease at her negotiations with CardinalClan.

Optimistic but not naive, Dawnstar's upbringing has allowed her to see the value in negotiations, though despite her injuries, she's still a vicious fighter when she needs to be.

Might make her face injuries more gnarly.

Smokestar

Renamed Sandstar to Smokestar, it compliments his design more.

Formerly a loner named Smokey, he was a kittypet but was left behind after a fire took out his home and his family was unable to retrieve him before being forced to flee. He won't admit it, but he misses his old life a lot.

He's got a very chill and relaxed exterior, but comes off as very dorky and chatty when you manage to get him to trust you. He and Dawnstar would spend hours on the town rooftop, with him chatting away and her listening.

He liked how special she made him feel, fell for her first but was too afraid to admit it for a while. He was a lot more open about his feelings after seeing her wreck her parent's shit for his sake.

Raised their very large litter himself!

He ascended to leadership after devising a plan to take down a particularly large and aggressive boar on their territory. The decision was to...mixed reception, but Dawnstar's reputation managed to keep it from being a complete shit show.

He's aware he was partially picked out of favoritism, but is intent on proving himself as a leader nonetheless.

Swiftstar of CardinalClan

Original name was Swiftfoot, succeeded his mother, Hawkstar, and his father, Robinhop, after they were brutally killed in one of BoarClan territory expansion battles.

He was a young apprentice when it happened, with his sister and him being the only survivor of their parent's first litter. He is the youngest leader, being promoted to a -Star immediately after gaining his Warrior name.

He tries very hard to act mature to overcompensate, reminding everyone of his authority constantly and sometimes coming across as aggressive when trying to assert himself.

The other leaders give him a bit of a pass for that, except for Oxeyestar, who looooovveeess riling him up.

Cold and aloof, his icy demeanour has put a dent in his relationship with his sisters. Cranegaze misses the days of her fun brother while Mallardsong simply avoids him, not wanting to be lectured for skipping her lessons or goofing off.

He misses having a close family, though he'd never admit it. The price of the crown, the price of doing what's necessary.

He'd never be interested in Dawnstar's negotiations if not for Mallardsong, he wants her to grow up spared of the pain he and Cranegaze endured after losing their parents.

His crown is some sort of preserved cardinal wings creation, not sure how it would be done but eeehh sacrifice a bit of realism for looking good.

Oxeyestar of CoyoteClan

Original name was Oxeyetail, he succeeded the Pebblestar, who, unbeknownst to him and the Clan, was killed via poison after threatening to expose TempestClan's saints.

Oxeyetail was a brown noser, someone who made it very clear he wanted the power they were offering. The Saints assigned to CoyoteClan, seeing a potential pawn, gave it to him.

Oxeyestar has kind of a hunch that they're not exactly everything they say, but hey! He's first to eat, gets the best den in camp, and commands respect. Who is he to say no? Besides, their super special God did pick him, clearly he's got something special about him.

It's gone to his head quite a bit and has caused some friction with the Saints, who do not have any interest in dealing with a big-headed pawn.

He came from a relatively normal family, probably the middle child of a big litter. He's never been that attached to his family.

He exaggerates, has a tendency to tell white lies, and "juice up" stories at the gathering - if he even decides to go.

He's a very unpopular leader in his own Clan.

Tempeststar of TempestClan

Originally named Snowdancer, he succeeded the previous Tempeststar who died of old age and had his name changed as per tradition.

Kind of a miserable and dramatic man, the type to put on a woe is me act if his dinner is five minutes late.

He was raised from birth to inherit the title of leader, separated by his family and raised by the Saints to keep him obedient. He originally was from a travelling rogue family who were struggling to keep their sickly child alive. He has a brother out there, though he'll never know that.

He's well aware everything the Saints say is nonsense, but he's similar to Oxeyestar that the benefits for him personally far outweigh the cost being dealt to the Clan. First to eat, a nest closest to the fireplace, and whatever else his heart desires...all he has to do is sing whatever songs the Saints write for him.

He's good at prettying up his words, though once you see him for what he is, you feel slimy just talking to him.

Did try to be better briefly, for his niblings (not bio ones). He loved hanging out with Cariboucalls' kits, and it broke his heart when he watched them each grow up and change as the Clan wore them all down in different ways
