I wasn't expecting such a timely upload, but happy fourth everyone!! Here's the Dungeon Meshi print I RUSHED to finish before attending JAFAX artist alley last month! The whole gang's having a courtyard pool party.
I just put this print on my Bigcartel store! Here's the link if you're interested.
Ramble and uncolored pencil version below:
Because of the time crunch, I had a lot of moments where I felt like something needed tweaking, or i had an idea, but I dismissed it because I didn't have much time. I wish senshis skin was a little darker/warmer. I think it got washed out with the yellow overlay layers, and I didn't really realize until it was too late :/
Also, I thought it might be cute was having a crown somewhere in the scene. Cuz this is supposed to be a post canon thing, and it would be a cute nod to them still getting together and doing fun things after Laois becomes king. And I even thought that the pillow below Chilchuck would be a cute place for it, because it's close enough to be noticeable, and a pillow would make sense, AND Chilchuck would be perfect to guard it with his good ears. But I already shaded it in, and that paper was a huge ass pain. (it was paper made for relief prints. I found it in my old art school stuff. Thought it would be good for drawing on. It was Not.) The paper would've flaked all over the place if I erased it. But at least it makes for a good place to sign the print!
I haven't seen the anime, but I read the manga, and it was really quite enjoyable. The world building is positively sublime, and the characters and their interactions? *chefs kiss* Here's hoping I'll have time to pick up the anime too.

Hey!! I drew something for once!! I got a little weird with this one - I had to cut out the drawing as carefully as possible and pasted it to layered paper and flower stickers. Not quite sure if the final product is good or not, but I had fun and that's what's important!
Love the Touden Siblings and their autistic rizz <3

Hi, I’m Dae! 💫✨
I’m a digital artist, primarily creating works centered around the Legend of Zelda series- and other things I like. I love painting environments and using delicious colors in my work.
You can find all my art here:
Daeyumi Art

If you are looking for my Legend of Zelda AU, you can find it here:
Cycle of the Stars AU

It is an ongoing multimedia project that aims to explore themes of illusion of choice, breaking the cycle of prophecy, and god as benefactor vs. perpetuator.
It’s something I’m very passionate about, and eager to use as a space to practice new things. Currently there is no set schedule for release of content; I work on my au in between my other responsibilities. It would mean the world to me if you check it out.
A couple key points:

Fell back in love with the Kievnauchfilm version of the Alice in Wonderland stories recently, it easily remains my favorite film adaptations. Alisa is my darling daughter and the multimedia animation style is so cool and suits the surrealist/absurdist nature of the original works hand-in-hand.
Don't know how better to describe it, but the artstyle is so yummy. The colors are so rich and it with the linework of the more detailed shots scratch the back of my brain just right. I'd make a delicious cocktail out of it and drink it if I could.
#also when I used to hyperfixate on these cartoons in hs I mistakenly referred to it as R*ssian Alice? my bad.#if I'd done a lil more research I'd've known Kievnauchfilm was Ukrainian. went back and corrected some of those posts.#there's an english dub of TTLG uploaded online. unfortunately no subbed versions of the og dubs are still up tho :n(#the current uploads also all have a big watermark on them. :/ good thing I saved these like a decade ago lol#random thoughts with kei the average

Artist Creates Fantastical Woodcuts and Engraved Paintings Suited for Fairy Tales [Interview] [Shared]
When Matt Roussel traveled to Mongolia in 2015, something critical dawned upon him: he didn’t want to work as a 3D illustrator anymore. This decision ultimately propelled him toward the multimedia practice for which he’s known today, revolving around everything from woodcuts and prints to ceramics and painted, engraved wood.
During this transition, Roussel first gravitated toward woodcutting, developing a style replete with unusual creatures, playful compositions, and defined, illustrative lines. Soon after, he complemented his prints with expressive, imaginative sculptures, inspired by Japan’s tradition of raku ceramics. It was only later that he combined woodcutting with his urge to paint, resulting in deliciously textured surfaces whose every crevice is streaked with translucent colors.

We would have loved to spent part of our trip in Algeria. However, this is not so easy with a German passport. Almost refreshing to see that others have an advantage with their passport, as Tunisians cross the border to their neighboring country without any problems.

The butcher invited us to watch the entire process of processing the slaughtered goat. A real craft.

We often had delicious “bread mash” with old bread when we were hiking. I always thought that you could market it with a good name. The Tunisians did it. The traditional dish is called “Lablabi”. You take a bowl and half a baguette and crumble it yourself, then you get harissa, chickpea soup and an egg on top. Wallah!

This multimedia museum took us through the history of Tunisia. The list of ethnic groups that have influenced the country is really long. Tunisia became independent in 1956.

We wanted to go from the southwest to the northwest of the country, but all transport routes went to Tunis, so we took a Louage to Kairouan, the holy city of Tunisia.

I am NOT grateful.
Everybody acts like the new Superman movie is something we should all be thanking our lucky stars for.
"You, ungrateful bastard! Should consider yourself fortunate to have another Superman movie!"
Should the poor be thankful for the few crumbs the rich feed them?
I don't need their charity: I deserve quality because I'm paying for it. Entertainment is a business. They get paid for their job if the public likes what they did. If not, try something else.
In Superman's Holliwood history, makers want to be praised for always doing the same. Since 1978 the only thing that's changed is the quality of the FX, but all the scripts are pretty much the same, following the same scheme, with the same characters doing the same over and over. In Supes case, writers don't even acknowledge the news no longer need a news paper, not even a news agency. Information goes through a completely different channels, different media. Creators ignore the digital revolution and think it is like in the times of our forefathers. Have they ever noticed the E in front of the word mail? That's to point out mail is no longer a hand written letter, but a new electronic media taking its place. No more ink and paper: digital. Digital and multimedia, with moving images and sound. Why do they pretend a modern society still depends on printed media to inform themselves?
Just like that, the presnt of Superman is plaged by tons of outdated things that must change. Let Superman enter the 21st Century.
I'm not grateful of being forced to be living in the past because certain outdated characters will cease to exist if they evolve to modern society.
Should I believe people still use street paid phones just to justify the existence of phone booths for Clark to chage into Superman?
A three piece suit is no longer regular working clothes, unless the person is an executive or the host of a TV show.
These may seem like superficial details, but they are the face of what lies beneath: an outdated plot. I bet Luthor would still try his famous real state scam to enrich himself. Lane will still try to unmask Superman, even though she claims to love him.
I bet you've heard those before. Expect more of that. Lots more.
One definition of insanity is doing the always same expecting different results. What would you say of people who always consumes the same excrement expecting it will, some day, taste delicious? Shoud they be grateful?

@biomechanicaltomato
so as we know i do not think in like--words, so trying to write my mental image of someone down always takes a second at least of stalled out processing time. half-breath of recalibration, pulling the whole picture-impression to mind as best i can for rotating, as the kids say.
which is easy enough. but then the teasing out of bits and odds to serve as some sort of piecemeal summary--then the hard part. it's always going to be more implication and association than anything, you know? the better i know someone the worse (the better; the more delicious) it is. the more stuff makes them up in my head the less able i am to set it all down and baby, you're a multimedia collage.
my brain doesn't work in sound much but so much of our friendship has revolved around voice chat that i guess it isn't surprising that that's the easiest thread to tease out and follow. so, so mellow-sweet when Leia was worried about getting in trouble for throwing up. so high and delighted, arching up and filling out into bombast when something is exasperating you so much that you're opting for amused critique because the other option is screaming about the sheer stupidity.
the two different flavors of affection when you're calling dylan and emma honey. clear inoffensive chiding amusement when a dog is benignly misbehaving. and yeah i know some of it's regional but i visited you in that region and no one else had your. i don't know the right terms. tonal musicality and quickness with phrases. not the ability to articulate a thought completely but the ability to do it in a way that makes listening to you feel--i don't know. conversation with you is rewarding, and it's half because you're smarter than i am in many areas but also it's a little like reading poetry i can understand the bones of even if i don't get the meaning yet. i know there's rightness there even if it isn't mine and i know you'll let me worry at it until i understand the shape of it.
i know a lot of sensitive people and i know a lot of artistic people and i know a lot of science-minded people. i don't know a lot of people who can marry those things together and maypole-weave them around a core of moral intensity and fierce stubbornness the way you do. i know a lot of people who let themselves be hamstrung by one or the other in excess--but you are so measured, so careful and thoughtful. someone called something that i thought was just listening to my instincts proof of my objectivity today. you feel like that to me. you ensure your humors are balanced, if you will. the thinking and feeling of life all bullied into line by your refusal to let either have undue sway over the other.
you're just the most delicious listening-hearted analytically-minded clever-tongued filthy-mouthed flavor of person and if we were on a road trip with no radio i could listen to you talk about things i understand and things i don't as the fancy took you for hours without drifting or being bored. i'm very grateful that we met over the best mmorpg ever. you're a glass of shockingly cold water when i didn't realize i was thirsty. you're a delight. you improve me by permitting this proximity, baby.
i legit started this to bat my eyelashes about your collarbones and soft skin and be ridiculous and flirty and stuff but hey, here we are. love you, sweetspark!

IN A MINUTE:

A NEW MUSIC ROUND_UP…

“IN THE HOUSE OF ANGEL FLESH” is a choice cut from @agriculture_music’s recently released EP titled ‘Living Is Easy’ (@theflenser) & it finds the LA-based quartet of Daniel Meyer-O’Keeffe (guitar/vox), Leah B. Levinson (bass/vox), Richard Chowenhill (guitar) & Kern Haug (percussion) building “on themes of community care & interrelation that we’ve explored elsewhere” across 5+ mins of searingly screamO’d, jarringly dissonant & earnestly ecstatic BlkMetal.

@alexeishishkin_ are here w/ “BERMUDA,” the second single from their forthcoming LP titled ‘Open Door Policy’ (5/28 @candlepin_records) & it finds the Queens-based artist, rounded out here by Graham W. Bell (guitar/vox), Bradford Krieger (production/guitar/vox/drums), Dave Kahn (bass), Ian Dwy (drums), Bill Waters (guitar/keys) & Ivan Rodriguez (sax) bringing that ramshackle’d charm across 2 ½ mins of suavely slacker’d & back_porch’d Indie.

“FEELING LESS HUMAN” is the lead track on CALVIN LEE’s recently released EP titled ‘5 Songs’ & it finds the Los Angeles-based artist Jeff Kleinman (@choirboyslc@therealgammaworld) in full ass observation mode while kicking rocks, smoking rando cigs & trying coffee again across a 2:38 clip of kraut anchored, deliciously deadpanned & stoically strutted NeuWave.

@genevaxjacuzzi is here w/ a brand new standalone single titled “DRY” (@daisrecords) & it finds the Los Angeles-based multimedia artist bringing the “retro-futurist body music” vibes across 3 ½ smoke-machine-ready mins of sensually synthetic, moodily cryptic & vivaciously vaporous DancePop.

@worldnewsgram are here w/ a brand new standalone single titled “RED” & it finds the London-based quartet jangle_poppin across 4 ½ aesthetically dialed mins of jovially jumped_up, beautifully blossomed & earnestly cooed IndieRock.

Crystal Nuzlocke Introduction
Got a pretty resounding "yes" on my poll asking if people would be ok with me dumping my idea sessions here so yippee! Since the story relies on a fair bit of context, I figured it would be nice to make an intro post before I start getting into the details of everything. Below the cut so the dash isn't clogged!
What is this project: A multimedia (mixed novelization and comic) retelling of a nuzlocke playthrough I did of pokemon crystal called Tastes Like Chicken (TLC). When it's finished it'll be posted on AO3, mostly as a written story but with comics and full illustrations supplementing the prose pretty frequently
Why multimedia: Comics take too long but I still want the vibe of a Nuzlocke comic. This is a happy medium
Setting: Takes place in Johto but in the Legends era, so it's based extremely loosely on early Edo period Japan. The characters are the same from the original games, just reimagined into the legends time period. The biggest change is that animals AND Pokemon exist here, so Pokemon are treated like yokai and are revered and feared as almost divine / godly beings because of their power and magic. Those who train pokemon (gym leaders, who act as regional leaders / daimyo) are said to be connected to the gods and use that divine power to rule and protect their lands, and bow to more powerful trainers. Wild pokemon behave pretty similar to how they do in legends
Premise: About a year prior to the story, one of the daimyo (Giovanni) staged a coup to officially seize power from the shogunate (Lance) while backed by four of the region's other eight daimyo. The coup failed quietly, but has risen tensions everywhere among the region's elite who fear their status and power are being threatened. Meanwhile, having stole one of his father's pokemon, the shogunate's son hides out in a small village, taking scraps and handouts from the local butcher (Yuki, the protagonist). A chance encounter leads them both to reveal they have been training pokemon in secret-- Silver to protect himself, and Yuki because she's leaving town for good and going on an adventure of her own. Yuki discovered, almost by accident, that Pokemon taste very, VERY good and is raising a cyndaquil she befriended so she can travel around the region cooking every pokemon she can find, with her ultimate goal being to eat Ho-Oh. They travel around the region together, getting progressively more involved in the region's testy political climate despite their best efforts
Main Characters: Yuki: A butcher who lives on the outskirts of New Bark. She discovred some time ago that pokemon are as delicious and edible as regular animals, and has befriended a cyndaquil from the nearby forest to help her cook, and eat them. When news of political unrest in New Bark reaches her, she takes it as a sign to leave the town for good and adventure around Johto in search of new things to try Silver: The shogunate's son. He has been raised in a high stakes political environment and hates the Johtoian elite with a passion because of it. He ran away from home after stealing a pokemon from his father and lives as a skittish street kid in New Bark while he tries to figure out what to do. He ends up hanging around Yuki, who leaves out food for him, and chooses to travel with her when she leaves town because he'd rather hang out with a pokemon-eating weirdo than starve
Story Changes: Little disclaimer of sorts that a fair bit of stuff is changed from the original games here. This is a reimagining of the game that's set in a totally different time period, so a lot of the worldbuilding, character ages, teams, and overall story are pretty different from what's in the actual game
