after listening to trey's advice, the three of you visited the pop music club room, eyes brimming with hope. but then you get jumpscared by a certain old fae.

ace and grim walks into the club room confidently, a contrast to your careful and slow pace. "hello? is anyone here?~" ace called out to whatever human being or entity is in the empty club room, yet no one seems to answer.

"huh, nobody's here ... thought we're gonna get jumpscared by that weird guy from diasomnia again. well, let's just leave! i'm starvin'!" grim complains, turning on his paws and walking towards the door—before he's stopped by an old fae hanging from the ceiling.

"fnyagh?! what ... you! it's you again! stop scaring us!" grim shrieks in shock, his fur standing still like a threatened cat. "bwahahaha! no, no, grim. that's like, your fault!" ace laughed, almost falling to the ground at grim's scared expression.

"how's that my fault?! hench-human, say something!"

"sigh, stop it, you two ..."

lilia cackles at the interaction before he settled on the ground slowly. "well, well, i was not expecting visitor today. would the three of you like to join the pop music club? or do you have something else in mind, hm?" he leans closer to you, eyes full of curiosity.

"um, lilia, would the pop music club be so kind as to lend their instruments to us? deuce's birthday is coming up, and we would like to do a rock performance for his surprise party. oh, while we're on that, can you teach us, too?"

lilia's eyes widened, not expecting your reply. he hesitated for a moment. yet, when he saw the eagerness in you and ace's face, he immediately agreed. "why, of course! i would be delighted to share my knowledge with my underclassmen! i shall ask cater and kalim about it, too."

ace jumps excitedly at the confirmation and high-fived with you. "hell yeah! now we gotta think about the rest of the presents!" he says, grinning at you. "oh, but we have to recruit other band members, right? it can't just be the two of us ..."

"two? two?! what am i, huh?!" grim stomps on his feet, narrowing his blue eyes at the two of you. mostly to ace, though.

"you're ... a direbeast." ace facepalmed, "there's no way you can play a guitar. or a drum. heck, you probably don't even know what drums are." he shrugs, opening his phone to send a chat to jack. at ace's half-assed reply, grim lets out an offended gasp, his tail straightening up.

"grrh ... you're lucky i'm kind enough today! else i would've burned your pants using my magic already, you twerp! by the way, i know what drums are, okay?! they're those things that you fry with lotsa' oil, rig—"

"oh, jack and epel said they'd be down to it. hell yeah."

"hey! listen to me when i talk!" you sigh frustratingly for the nth time today. grim and ace are already arguing, great. you slowly turn to a smirking lilia, silently asking for his help to get you away from these two. he only chuckles.

"khehehe, very well, i shall wait for you and your companions tomorrow." he then disappears from the doorway, leaving you alone with two insufferable ex-anemones. you pray to whoever that they'll become anemones again so they'll stop bothering you.

"huh? oh, wow! jade, azul, it's shrimpy and the gang!~"

wait, wait, that's too quick! you never straightened your composure so fast than when you hear floyd's voice calling out to the three of you. you immediately clasp a hand to your mouth. is the power of prayer really that strong? you once again prayed to whoever that the octatrio will disappear right now.

this time, nothing happens.

"it's the scammer and his minions!" grim immediately hides behind your leg, hissing at the three of them. you want to punch yourself for praying for such weird things on a whim—but it already happens, and you can't do anything about it. so you just silently accept that fact.

"how delightful! i would've never expected to meet my ex-employees—i mean, my great business partner!" azul smiles smugly, looking at the three of you with eyes that screams 'we should totally do another contract sometimes.'

ace huffs, rolling his eyes at azul's words. "whaddya' want with us, huh? we're busy here, thank you very much. so please leave us alone." he gestures towards the door with a frown on his face, making azul let out the fakest offended gasp

"oya, i hadn't noticed the 'pop music club' sign on the door due to our conversation. if i may ask, what are the three of you doing here? are you perhaps looking to join this club?" jade asks, smiling as mischievously as usual.

"oh, oh, i wanna join! i can do that, right, shrimpy?~ you're gonna let me join, right? i can play drums or dance for ya!" ah, there it is. another one of floyd's whims. you really want to quietly disappear into the background right now, but unfortunately, there's no way to do that when you're surrounded like this.

jack : i did hear from ruggie-senpai that he's great at playing drums. but he also has really bad mood swings. i don't think it'd be great to have him in our band.

ace : c'mon, guys! there's nothing wrong with more people!

you sigh as you read the barrage of messages on your phone that you got right after you arrived at ramshackle. you agree with jack and epel. this is a crazy idea, and it could potentially ruin your surprise party for deuce. what if floyd doesn't show up at all just because?

then, another notification is heard from your phone.

deuce : huh? what band? is there some kind of an unknown live event happening in NRC tomorrow? are you guys participating in it?

you stare at the phone for a few seconds in crippling shock before putting it somewhere on your bed, trying to calm yourself down. your plan is already destroyed before it sets into motion. great, just great.

you cover your face with your hands, thinking of ways to lie to deuce as more notification sound comes out of your phone. you guessed that it's probably ace and epel trying to convince deuce so that he forget all about this.

instead of joining them, you choose to fall asleep.

Oh, he loves to gift a piece of the dessert he makes or make a whole cake just for you because he is so smitten over you, but how can he not be so cute when your face lights up whenever you try the cakes he makes for you?

He finds it cute whenever you take his glasses off to try them on, asking if you look good with his glasses with a grin on your face, or even better when you mirror the club on his cheek and put on yours, so now you two match with each other.

Just like he did with his younger siblings, he is going to remind you to brush your teeth every day since he doesn't want you to have any cavities since he spoils you a lot. This man cares about dental hygiene.

He is not going to karaoke if life depends on it. He says that he’s a terrible singer, but it’s not like you listen to him; you just love to drag him along and sing a duet together. He wasn’t wrong; he doesn’t really have a good singing voice, but you had fun, so it’s not a big deal.

You’ll bake with him; even if you're bad at baking, he’ll teach you. He tells you that you can’t just get better overnight; it takes time and patience to master something, so don’t think you're lost. If you just want to watch him, that's fine, but you’ll have to grab ingredients for whatever he might be baking.

I can tell he’s just good at cooking in general, so if you don’t have anything to eat or any ingredients to make something when you come back from your class, you can just shoot him a text to help you out. There's nothing to be ashamed of when you ask him.

He doesn’t mind PDA that much, like kissing him on the cheek as you leave or holding his hand, but it does make him blush a little when done in front of other people, especially in front of Cater or Riddle (Riddle just clears his throat to get back on topic).

Cater is basically your boyfriend and best friend at the same time.

He’s always taking photos of you and him doing those cringy couple poses where you kiss him on the cheek. Post that on Magicam because why not show you off? If you don’t have a Magicam account, he’s going to make you one, of course. you're following each other.

You guys probably dress up matching with each other and then do a magicam photoshoot.

He makes doubles of himself just to mess with you, like asking which one is the real him: the one in the Drom uniform or the NRC uniform; if you get it right, you’ll get a kiss, and if you don't, he’ll pout about how he could not know. But don’t worry, he’ll forgive you if you give him a kiss.

Cater doesn’t like sweets that much, but the exception is you, since your lips are so sweet that he just loves them, so don’t mind him stealing kisses from you throughout the day.

He’ll also put a diamond mark on your face just like his, even if you're not in Heartslabyul. You just look cute with his mark on your face (and he’s going to take 100 photos of you with that diamond mark).

His hobby is visiting cafes, and I bet you're going with him. You go to the whole bench together, from maid cafes to cat cafes and even the weird ones, and he doesn’t care unless you're having fun with him, because what's the point if he’s the only one having fun and not you always?

And to add to the cafe, you’ll definitely go to ramen restaurants. He’s going to order the most spicy ramen and then just add more hot sauce, which surprises you, but if you're not a big fan of spicy ramen, it’s fine; you can just order mild ramen.

He loves to tease and pull little pranks on you because you're just easy to mess with (and he loves you). If you try to tease him back and succeed, he’ll deny it all with a flustered face; if you point out his red cheeks and ears, he’ll go quiet in embarrassment.

He loves to impress you with his magic tricks; he’ll even learn new ones so he can keep on seeing your expression filled with amazement by him and only him. It feeds his ego so much.

He’ll invite you to watch him practice basketball after school; he would probably be like "This shot is for you" and then completely miss the hoop while you just start laughing at him. He gets it after the 4th time while he blushes, saying "I got it in, so stop laughing!".

Once you want to surprise him with a cherry pie that you made with your own two hands, he’s going to be ecstatic and tell you that he loves you.

He’ll show you off to everyone like it must suck for them to still be single while he’s in a relationship with the most beautiful person ever; deuce wants to punch him in the face for how annoying ace is being.

Deuce, Jack, and Epel ask if Ace bribed you or if he’s forcing you to be in a relationship with him and are shocked to find you want to be with him.

The boy is nervous at the beginning of your relationship since he’s never been with anyone before (he probably gets embarrassed seeing a kiss scene in a movie and closes his eyes).

Ace makes fun of Deuce since he can’t look him in the eye with his brain going blank and not know what to say, but he gets over it after a while.

Whenever you two are alone together and Deuce ends up in a dispute with some passersby who said he was rude when he bumped their shoulder by accident, he tries to calm the other party down and himself since he doesn’t want to show his delinquent side in front of you, especially since who knows what you might think about him?

But it fails and turns bad, but in the end, the other people run away, and he apologizes to you, saying that he didn’t want you to see that side of him, his face full of shame, but you don’t blame him at all, nor do you see him any different; he’s happy that you don’t.

Back to Deuce being embarrassed, he was freaking out when you first held hands with each other; he was screaming in his head about how lucky he was, and even more when you had your first kiss together like he was on cloud 9, you saw how red his face was.

He would take you blastcycling to the beach to look at the sunset together.

You and Deuce always study together, so you both can be honor students together.

- You would have to keep him out of trouble, as it was shown in the first chapter he likes to pick fun at others and it could get him into trouble.

- Ace always helps you with your homework, he is smart, despite his carefree persona, and if you are ever struggling with any class he always helps you understand the topic you’re learning better!

- Ace being the little shithead he is loves playing pranks on you, it’s like the highlight of the day. But he will stop if you tell him to.

- I feel like his brother would tease the shit out of Ace sometimes, whenever you and Ace would visit him of course, like he’ll notice him trying to hit on you, and just calls him out on it in front of you. Ace swears he wants to strangle his brother..

- You know how his dad is good at performing card tricks? I feel like at least once when you two were kids, he would try to perform one of the same card tricks but failed. You would always like laugh and poke fun at him because he messed it up, but now that he’s older, he sometimes shows you the same card tricks when your upset and need cheering up and even though he knows the right way to do it, he messes it up just so that you could smile and laugh at him. He loves your smile but he’d never admit it out loud.

- Speaking of you being upset, since Ace has known you since you two were kids, he knows when you’re upset, you can’t hide it from him. He’s like a lie-detector when it comes to you.

- Ace as your childhood friend, trying to cheer you up, would most likely be him taking you with him to prank someone with him. He wants to see you laugh, but if you’re genuinely upset, and don’t want him to joke around—he’ll just let you lay in his arms and let you rant about whatever is bothering you.

- He is not the best comforter, I don’t know why. I feel like he gets kinda awkward and doesn’t know what to say or do to make you feel better, so the only thing he does do, is just sit there, hugging you and listen to you ramble about whatever is bothering you. He’s better at making you laugh than comforting you with words but don’t tell him that lmao.

- Ace probably can and will beat up anyone who dares to hurt you. Metaphorically, I mean. Like if someone made fun of you, or made you feel bad or uncomfortable. Unlike Deuce he won’t result to violence. He’ll make a total fool of them.

- I have a feeling he’ll get jealous if you flirt with Cater. He’d never admit it to you. Like I could see it.

“Hey, (Y/N), you and I should go to this new café I saw online, they say the ratings are high!” Cater exclaims, showing you the location on his phone. “Oh really?” you asked, peering over his shoulder to get a better look of the screen. “Yeah, you wanna come?” Cater asks again. “Like a date?” You snickered, looking over at Ace who was practically fuming. Cater knew what you were doing and played along. “Yeah, a date.” Cater smirked, hugging you close to him. Ace made a quiet ‘hmph!’ noise, crossing his arms. He paused for a few seconds, before marching right up to you, purposely shoving Cater away from you to sit in-between you. “That sounds great, mind if I tag along?” Ace asked, draping his arm around your shoulders. “Ace, honey, just admit your jealous.” Cater snickered, poking Ace’s side. Ace’s face flushed a bright red “I am not!”. Cater’s smirk only widens “So you don’t mind if I take them on a date?” Cater taunts, smirking at Ace. “I never said that!” Ace retorts, crossing has arms as he shifted his gaze to the floor with a huff. “C’mon it’s not that hard, just admit you like them.”

- Ace probably doesn’t realize his feelings for you until you both start attending school at NRC, when he sees you jokingly flirting with Cater, or spending too much time with someone who isn’t him, and he feels weird jealous—that’s when he realizes “oh you absolute dumb fuck your in love with them.” He feels so stupid for not realizing that he likes you sooner, despite him being a really smart person.

- Ace probably doesn’t like the idea of telling you he has feelings for you though. You’re his childhood friend! It’s like the basic, most often thought romance troupe!

- Poor baby makes it so obvious though, always trying to make you smile, pouting when you flirt too much with Cater, and just in general. You don’t tell him you know though to both save him the embarrassment of being so obvious and so he could build up the courage to tell you himself.

- Which never happens, so if you really want him to know you like him back, you’re gonna have to tell him.

Deuce Spade as your childhood friend would include..

- You would always try to keep him out of trouble, more like keeping him from getting into fights with people, making sure to somewhat keep him in line.

- I get the feeling that Deuce would help you with anything you needed. He’s not as smart as Ace, so he can’t help you with studying, but if Grim broke anything you need anything fixed, you can rely on him to fix it!

- Speaking of Deuce’s studying, I feel like he barely passes his classes, despite studying so hard to get good grades. So you and him have like little study nights in his dorm, where you help him try to not fail every class he and you both just study and prepare for exams or projects so that his mind doesn’t go completely blank, which definitely doesn’t turn into you two talking back and forth the whole time.

- Also, back to the fact the Deuce’s mom is a single mother, so I feel like as kids you would go over to help him help his mom around the house, if that makes sense? His mother loves you, and definitely made a joke of you being her future daughter-in-law.

- I don’t know why I feel like Deuce likes when you depend on him. Cause like, how he would always help his mom out with things so things would be easier for her, I feel like he’d do the same thing for you, cause he likes helping you out. Something about how he would like doing things for you just to help you out, or fixing things that Grim had broken, or helping you clean up around the dorm. This man’s love language just HAS to be acts of service.

- Deuce probably, if he failed another test again, he’d come to you for comfort. Watching him sulk as you hold him in your arms, complaining about how he worked so hard to just to fail yet again. Times like this, he insists on going to you, even if your busy, he’ll just lean his forehead onto the back of your shoulder and grumble something about not studying hard enough, and needing to study harder. Please assure him he did his best and that’s enough!

- I would think that Deuce is more of a comforter than Ace, in the sense that he’ll bluntly tell you what is what and how to fix it (ex. a toxic partner, he’ll just straight up tell you to put them in their place [beat ‘em up] and leave them). But that’s a good thing actually. If you just want him to listen though, that’s cool too! He could totally do that!!

- Anyone who dares to badmouth you, or insult you to your face—with him there, might I add—he won’t hesitate to beat the shit out of them tell them off.

- Adding onto that, Deuce would definitely try to fight them when you’re not around, frustratingly muttering how it wasn’t his fault, and they were practically asking for him to beat them up when they were talking badly about you. You had to beg Crowley to let him off the hook, or else you’d be dealing with a sulky Deuce if he got suspended.

- I get the feeling Deuce is very protective of you, always making sure you’re eating enough, staying hydrated, taking care of yourself. What? He can’t help it, you’re his friend afterall.

- He probably can’t tell when you’re upset, unlike Ace so you have to come to him and tell him.

- He cares a LOT about you, and he’ll make sure to show it. He’s such a sweetheart with you, honestly.

- Despite being extremely straightforward and blunt, I feel like if you tried to hint at your feelings for him, he’d be so oblivious—this dense mf, if you said something like “oh I like this guy with.. dark blue hair and terrible grades” this man will just be like “oh cool haha” he definitely isn’t jealous.

- I don’t think Deuce is a jealous guy I’m lying, I’m lying—he’s defo a jealous guy. AND HE WONT EVEN TRY TO HIDE IT?? Like again, if Cater is flirting with you as a joke, Deuce would be like “Sorry, I need them for the rest of the day, you cannot have them.”

- Cater probably asks him if he likes you, and Deuce would probably just go “no they’ve just been my friend since we were kids, it’s natural for me to feel like this.” is it really?

- But Cater eventually explains and manages to make Deuce realize that YES, he does in fact have feelings for you he’s just really dense.

- Deuce over analyzes this for DAYS, observing everything you do, trying to see if it’s okay to confess to you, he wants to. And he would but he just can’t stand one thing. Rejection. It makes his stomach churn. He would’ve if he actually managed to see the signs..

- Riddle once caught you trying to indirectly tell Deuce you liked him, he called you out on it.

“Aha.. so Deuce. Remember how I was telling you how there was this guy I liked?” you asked in the middle of an unbirthday party. “Yeah? You said he has dark blue hair right? And he has terrible grades?” Deuce confirmed, trying to think of who he knew that was like that. “They’re also incredibly dense.” you sigh. “Why? Have you told them your feelings yet?” Deuce asked, his heart sinking as he thought you might like someone else. “Yeah, I’ve hinted to him about my feelings but he doesn’t seem to catch on.” you grumbled. Deuce chuckled “He sounds stupid—“ “They’re talking about you, dimwit.” Riddle sighed, having enough of your pathetic attempts of trying to let Deuce see that you like him. Deuce then turns to you with a flushed face. “Is this.. true?” he paused, trying to look in your eyes for any signs of a lie. “Maybe..” you admitted, your own face flushed red. “If this “maybe” is a yes, then I like you too.” Deuce gives you a fond smile, making you even more flustered by his bluntness.

- Deuce is honestly a good friend to you, but the story is left for your imagination to continue. :)

a/n just a thought i had with deuce. *is an honors student who doesn’t study* anyways, i'm taking requests right now both for my event and normally so feel free to request! :3 i beg i feel so motivated rn

-the moment deuce finds out you’re an honors student, he starts enthusiastically bombarding you with questions like: what are your studying habits?, how long have you been in honors?, how do you manage it?, etc, etc.

-you are his goal after all, an honors student with good grades.

-he would ask you for tips and help with his homework. going to the mostro lounge to help him practice for presentations or just helping him with homework in general along with ace became normal.

-then when he tried asking you for tips for studying, you dodged the question having no idea how to answer him as you never studied.

-deuce was suspicious of that and thought you cheated via azuls study guide but quickly shook away the thought knowing you weren’t like that, right?

-when he tried again, he got the same response as last time, you dodging the question.

-so he straight forwardly asks you if you cheated your way into honors using azuls study guide.

-at this you came clean, embarrassed, saying you don’t study. deuce was… really shocked.

“you don’t… study…?”

“no, i don’t” you admit, chuckling nervously.

-he became really envious; you don’t study yet you have good grades and is in honors while he, despite studying a lot, doesn't get good grades. his grades are barely decent despite the amount of hard work he puts in while you, you do that effortlessly.

"Fuck, Fuck, Fuck Fuck...." Deuce said, he was carrying three pink boxes. What they contained was unknown. "Ya need help?" Epel catched up to him. Not waiting for an answer, he took one of the boxes and followed him.

"Thanks man..be careful with em, okay? They're for..." he didnt finish his sentence. A light blush appeared on his cheeks at the thought of his special someone.

"OH YEAAAAAAH!" "Epel! Quiet!" "Sorry sorry, how long was it again? Just a couple of weeks right?" "Yeah, still surprised it actually happened. That we're. A thing now.." the two boys continued on their journey to Ramshackle.

A few of the other guys were there. Jack and Sebek setting up some decor on the walls and Ace was away with Grim. Keeping you busy.

Epel and Deuce places the three pink boxes down and opened them. One box had cupcakes with the words "HAPPY" written on them. The next was a cake, written on it was "BIRTHDAY". And the last one was a set of cookies. On it was your name.

"Did we have to get this many?" Sebek asked, hanging up a banner. "Some other guys are also coming." Jack replied, hanging up the other side. "Ohhhh and the ghosts right?" "And the ghosts...how do ghosts eat?" "Beats me, i bet it goes right through them"

A few hours later, Ace and Grim lead you to your dorm.

"I swear up, down, left, right, and center if you two are leading me to ANOTHER over blot I'm gonna kill myself." You said, letting the two drag you. "WHAT! we would NEVER!" Ace looked hurt at the idea.

Grim and Ace both lead you to your door. It was dark Inside. Looking for the light switch and switching it on, you heard many people say "happy birthday!"

Walking up to you, Deuce greeted you with a kiss on the cheek. "Happy birthday, take a break and rest okay? You deserve it."

that same question has been repeated between you and ace for the past fifteen minutes like a broken radio. well, how could it not? deuce's birthday is just a few weeks away, and the two of you can't figure out what he likes for god's sake!

er, not like any of you guys are a bad friend, of course. deuce just rarely reveal stuff about himself. which is surprising considering how dense and oblivious he's most of the time—if you hadn't known any better, you'd have thought that he would answer everything everyone asked him.

but, noooo— he has to act very difficult whenever any of you ask a question.

two weeks ago, when you were thinking of a present to give to deuce for his birthday, ace has taken the courtesy to ask deuce subtly about what he likes. he grins at you, saying something along the lines of, "c'mon, it's gonna be easy. that guy's like, so dense it's almost insane. he'd probably say something obvious like 'blastcycle' or something."

you pray to yourself that he won't ask for a blastcycle. where would you get the money to buy one anyway? besides, it's not like any of you are allowed to ride it at your age. you sigh, nodding along to whatever ace has planned in his head.

with a confident smirk, ace walks into the heartslabyul lounge casually as if he's not about to do something risky. what if he reveals your surprise party accidentally? sigh, well, you'll just have to trust ace's lying ability for now.

"deuce, my man!" when ace called out to deuce in an unusually friendly way, he almost jumped from his seat because he thought that a doppelganger of ace was coming to get him. "hey, what's with that look? do i have somethin' on my face?"

"oh, it's just you, ace ... right? what is it?"

"'right?' of course it's me!"

you shook your head at the awkward interaction before you. great, it's already failing before ace even blurts out the question. ace turns to face you for a few seconds, winking at you like a cartoon character. his face screams, 'i got this under the belt, prefect! don't worry!'.

"ahem, deuce, can i ask you a question?" ace starts, making deuce raise an eyebrow. "you know, we've been friends for years, and i never knew what you really liked. so, tell me 'bout it!" he grins, trying his hardest not to let out a cackle with how serious deuce looked.

"first of all, we're not friends for years ... we literally just met six months ago." he replied, shaking his head disapprovingly.

"hey, don't sweat the details! just tell me!"

"what are you plotting? i'm not gonna participate."

"what? i'm not plotting anythin'. just tell me what you like!"

"no! knowing you, you're probably gonna run off with it and use it to blackmail me! ... or something."

"not wrong. uh, i mean, no way! i'm not that type of person!"

they both glare at each other. somehow, an entirely new sub-plot about the eye staring contest is starting in front of you. you began to question your decision of hanging out with these people. in the end, neither you nor ace finds out what deuce likes.

the next week after that, you both decided that you'll give deuce a miniature blastcycle, and also a can of tuna(grim insisted). ace hums at the list of presents on your notebook. "hmm, i dunno, this looks a little bland for a birthday present. you sure he's gonna like these?"

"you were the one who fumbled asking him an easy question about what he wants ..." you frown at him, making him shoot you an apologetic smile. "c'mon, that was only because deuce was so difficult to work with. what about we ask around?"

"ask around? there's only one person who knows about deuce, and it's the guy himself."

"hey, he might be socially awkward sometimes and is also bad at understanding jokes, but he's got friends other than us, too! so i'm sure we're gonna get a couple of answers." ace grins, taking the notebook from your hands before sprinting out the ramshackle door.

"you really don't have to add those insults ..." you mutter to yourself before walking out the door with grim following behind.

the first person you had in mind was: the very scary and uptight housewarden, riddle rosehearts. though before you could message him to ask him where he was, ace stopped you by putting your phone down. "no, no, no! are you crazy?! that guy's probably not gonna answer at all! he'll probably lecture us for being a bad friend instead! let's think of someone el—"

"that is true. i would be very disappointed if i found out my friends in school do not know anything about me. the least they could do is know the base of what i like." that very familiar shiver you once felt on your first day of school in NRC is present yet again when you hear the strict voice behind you.

"fnyagh! it's the redhead warden!"

"heya, you three. riddle accidentally overheard your conversation earlier and offered to come up to you and help you." trey smiles, waving his hand at you. "i did no such thing, i simply saw three little lost lambs in the courtyard. also, who are you calling a redhead warden, grim?" riddle crossed his hands, narrowing his eyes at the direbeast, making him hide behind your leg.

"uh, trey, riddle, what do you think would be a suitable gift for deuce?" you ask, tilting your head in curiosity. even if you already got a grasp of what the two is probably gonna say, you want to hear it from them directly. riddle hums for a second before giving a well-thought out answer.

"you should buy him a notebook," at his answer, ace looks at you, silently saying, see? i knew this was gonna happen. "... is what i would say if i didn't know any better. deuce seems like someone who likes strange things, so you can maybe buy him a necklace with tooth as charms? uh, if ... you know what i'm talking about, of course." he continues. now it's your turn to smirk at ace.

"tooth charms...? you mean we gotta use our teeth?! hench-human, don't listen to him! i still wanna eat tunas, i don't wanna lose my teeth!"

"that's not what he meant, grim ..."

trey just smiles at the interaction before offering his piece of advice. "i think you should definitely go with something that's screaming rock. i don't know how to describe it, but that guy used to be a delinquent, right? he'd probably like something like that." oh, he's right.

the three of you exchanged looks, as if you immediately knew what you were going to do before any of you utter a word. "thank you, housewarden! trey-senpai!" ace and you bows slightly at the two of them, before leaving the courtyard and went straight towards the pop music club room.

"... trey, you're either giving out a solid advice, or is going to cause severe ear bleeding on the third of june." riddle mutters under his breath, making trey laugh.

ace trappola

Can’t say he’s surprised, just disappointed. It makes sense; he was one of your first friends. However, that doesn’t make him any less troublesome. Despite being a first-year, Ace is one of the biggest slackers and troublemakers on campus— much to Trein’s dismay. His main worry is that Ace will poorly influence you. He’s already seeing it with the two of you getting a crazy amount of detentions and scoldings for unthinkable reasons. You’ve got it rough already being from another world, you don’t need a devil on your shoulder convincing you to get into all kinds of trouble. It’s a real shame said devil is your boyfriend. He’ll allow the relationship and all will seem swell. Little do you know that he pulled Ace aside and had a long chat.

deuce spade

A fine pick; Trein is neither severely impressed nor disappointed. He doesn’t think Deuce is too bad, but he believes you could do better. Deuce will need to somehow prove himself to Trein. On the outside, Trein looks like he absolutely hates his guts. His eyes are always staring at Deuce with this sharp look and it gets the card soldier real nervous real fast. In reality, it’s just Trein keeping a closer eye on him + his RBF. He’s relatively neutral on the first year, yet Deuce is fully convinced that his professor wants to set him on fire.

cater diamond

Trein is very annoyed with your choice. He doesn’t like Cater’s social media addiction and would much rather have you hit the books than scrolling through Magicam. Not to mention, he feels as though something about Cater’s happy-go-lucky attitude is a facade, and doesn’t trust him around you. Cater finds Trein scary, but he’s not as intimidated as Deuce. As he does with Ace, Trein takes Cater to have a talk, and—surprisingly— his opinions on the third year improve. He doesn’t fully like him, but he’ll tolerate Cater more so than beforehand. Cater also offers to help Trein make a social media account; it’s cute yet chaotic all the same watching them bond.

trey clover

Before Trein can form a solid thought on Trey, the vice housewarden is subtly trying to win his favor. Trey knows how about his father-like connection to you and immediately shapes up. He gifts Trein different pastries and learns which ones he’s partial to. What really wins the professor over is when Trey starts volunteering to help clean his classroom after class. Trein won’t even know the two of you are already together and he’ll make comments around you like, “That Clover boy is real nice…” Needless to say, Trein approves of Trey long before he finds out you both are in a relationship.

riddle rosehearts

Trein immediately scowls when he hears the news of your relationship. You’d think he’d approve due to Riddle’s intellect and dutiful behavior. Admittedly, Trein does like that about Riddle. But he despises the boy’s bursts of anger, finding them childish and unfitting for a future mage. He’s seen the housewarden go berserk on one too many students and doesn’t trust he won’t do the same to you. Trein doesn’t want you walking on eggshells around your own partner. This is another one who’ll have to prove themselves to Trein. Riddle will be upset when he hears of Trein’s low opinion of him, but gets a surge of motivation to convince him otherwise. You’ll find Riddle working even harder on his studies than before you didn’t even think that was possible in hopes of gaining Trein’s favor. He’ll eventually get it. I imagine that Riddle does some small, heroic deed for you that really shows his love, and Trein just so happens to be passing by and sees it. Once your unofficial official father in Twisted Wonderland gets along with Riddle, expect to be nagged about missing assignments and homework a WHOLE LOT.

jack howl

Similar to Trey, he immediately knows about your bond with Trein. Instead of trying to win over the professor, Jack takes a more blunt approach. He goes straight to his desk after class and tells him about your relationship, being upfront about his feelings towards you. Trein respects it. He thinks that Jack has more guts than most on campus and trusts him to protect you. He’s quite supportive of the relationship, acting as a mentor for the both of you. You can catch him watching the two of you with a tiny smile, murmuring something along the lines of, “Young love.” The two of you remind him of his own marriage with his late wife. It makes him sentimental in a way.

ruggie bucchi

A BIG 180 FROM JACK. Trein thinks this guy is sleazy. Ruggie couldn’t care less in the beginning, finding it funny to practically hang off your shoulder while Trein stared daggers into him. Then it started to seep in that it may or may not be important to get Trein’s approval for a long-term relationship with you. That’s when he gets his act together and completely starts sucking up to Trein. He’ll help out with paperwork, errands, cleaning up, etc! All for free! much to his dismay All Ruggie asks for in return is Trein’s support for your relationship. He catches Trein by surprise with how well his work ethic is. The lengths the hyena goes to for you ends up leaving the professor impressed.

leona kingscholar

Professor Trein is both surprised and disappointed. Now how did this happen? He didn't think Kingscholar was capable of being nice to anyone, let alone get into a whole relationship. Well, he bugs you to tell your boyfriend to start showing up to class. He’s not exactly happy with you dating a huge slacker like him, but Trein knows that Leona is a smart boy. Brash and not his first pick, sure, but he wouldn’t play with your heart or rope you into anything stupid. He trusts Kingscholar to protect you. But if he starts seeing you begin to skip class— which is going to happen, Leona’s going to make you do it at least once— he’ll pull YOU aside and give you an earful. Tough love, unfortunately.

floyd leech

Hell no. All the red blaring flags. Now why would you go and do that? Really? Out of EVERYONE? You bet your bottoms Trein is actively speaking out against your relationship every single time he sees you. He doesn't even want to try to talk to Floyd. Trein is convinced you are addicted to getting in trouble and lets out the biggest old man sigh. Is there any way Floyd can win the professor’s favor? Probably not. And if there was a way, would Floyd even do it? Big fat no. Floyd thinks it is hilarious that Professor Trein disapproves, upping his affections around him with that toothy grin of his. And if you guys have a class together that Trein teaches? Chaos. Expect a lot of paper balls to be thrown at you.

jade leech

“Are you okay??” Is the first thing Trein asks when you tell him you and Jade are in a relationship. Doesn't exactly trust the boy, but Jade tends to behave around him. The professor has always seen him being picture-perfect whenever he’s around which is 100% suspicious, but Trein doesn't have any solid reasons to disapprove. Jade, like his brother, finds the whole situation very amusing. He’s always figuring out new ways to appear like the ‘ideal boyfriend’ to Trein. If he ever talks to the professor he’ll slip in a comment like, “I never disappoint, trust me” and it makes Trein distrust him even more.

azul ashengrotto

Now what bet did you lose for this to have happened? At least Ashengrotto is a star student, you need to hang out around more of those in his opinion. After confirming that, “No, no bet was lost,” and “No, he’s not paying for my love,” Trein was pretty alright with it. The Monstro Lounge is a student-ran organization, it's clear from that the young boy is capable and responsible. He just keeps a very, very close eye on you two. The last thing Trein wants is for Azul to take advantage of you since— knowing him— he seems like the type to do so. Expect frequent questions of “How’s your relationship going?” and “He’s treating you right, right?” Azul is going to get asked to stay after class to talk. Trein then proceeds to threaten lecture him on how to properly treat your lover. He just wants to make sure you don't get wrapped up in one of those contracts he’s heard about. Azul has quite the track record.

kalim al asim

Automatically assumes you’re dating him for the money and begins to ramble about how you should marry for love. Tells you about his late wife and how much he loved her— it is so sweet I'm actually crying. That's the kind of love he wants you to have. You’ve got to reassure him that, “Yes, my certified father figure, I do love him very much and I’m not just in it for the money.” After that talk, he finds the relationship sweet but kind of concerning. Kalim is a nice boy but severely naive and, frankly, incompetent. Trein starts to go a little harder on Kalim in class, not that he was going easy anyway. He scrutinizes the essays he turns in and chastises him for missing an assignment. As he watches you kiss Kalim on the cheek after getting an A, Trein can only sigh and think, “He’s lucky he’s rich.”

jamil viper

Trein’s pretty okay with him. He’s a level-headed guy with passable grades and the title of a vice housewarden. However, the professor did hear about his Overblot and does think that there's more beneath the surface. He doesn't judge him for his Overblot, no. But Trein does keep a closer eye on him to make sure he isn't scheming anything involving you. The professor also tries to push him to do better academically. He’s heard from you about how smart Jamil truly is and can see his potential, so he tries to get him to stop holding back. Jamil is a little appreciative of it and respects Trein as your father figure, but still isn't a fan of sticking out. Nor does he plan on giving into Trein’s attempts.

epel felmier

Is fine with the relationship at first. He was polite, soft-spoken, and a part of Pomfiore. Most students belonging to that dorm are pompous, but respectful nonetheless. Then Epel’s true nature comes out and Trein is constantly reprimanding him for horseplay. It's kinda funny how surprised Trein is by Epel’s country toughness. The professor definitely had his suspicions— nobody at NRC is innocent, he’s learned every student here has some sort of dark side— but he definitely wouldn't have expected this. A part of Trein actually prefers him like this. You are dating someone with a backbone who will defend you. He encourages Epel to be himself around him, promising a judgment-free area. They get along pretty well surprisingly, with Trein being a sort of mentor to him. Overall, very sweet and Trein approves.

rook hunt

In the most blunt way possible, Trein tells you, “Your boyfriend weirds me out.” He thinks Rook is an oddball for sure. No way around it. Is half convinced Rook is stalking him. Because he is. When you explained to your boyfriend about the bond you had with Professor Trein, he got way too intrigued and ended up ‘watching’ Trein like he does to Leona. It's not until the professor makes a passing comment about being paranoid that he’s being watched that you realized, “Oh shit my boyfriends stalking you.” You don't say that to him— you don't want Rook getting in trouble. So you settle on having a really long talk with Rook about it who reassures you he’d never disturb your father figure or the absolutely beautiful bond between the two of you. He still worries you sometimes when he goes missing and randomly reappears by walking out of Trein’s classroom.

vil schoenheit

Trein worries that Vil won’t make the time for you. He’s aware that Schoenheit is a busy boy as he’s missed his class plentiful in the past. He’ll make Vil stay after class for a little to talk to him about it, giving him a fatherly warning about being ready to fully commit to a relationship and the time it takes to manage one. Vil is, admittedly, insulted that Trein doubts his ability to wholeheartedly love you but takes it in stride. He sees this as a sign to up his game in the romance department and properly does so, dedicating more time to pampering you. The professor expresses his concerns to his coworker, Crewel, who talks his ear off about how much of a “good pup” Vil is and that he won't disappoint. Trein can’t help but agree when he spots you walking into class looking more freshened with slight makeup on and a new hair-do that Vil definitely did for you.

Once you break the news to Trein, he immediately asks to meet with Idia one-on-one. The blue-haired student rarely shows up to class! And that iPad isn't going to cut it forever! He needs to be able to size him up in person. Idia, naturally, is scared to death. At first, he immediately declines, insisting that they don't really need to meet up, the whole idea is stupid, and it’ll be fine if he stays right there in his room. Then you sit down with him and tell him how important Trein is to you and… sigh You landed a natural 20 on the dice of persuasion. Idia can’t believe he's doing this. You’re beside him the whole time as he stutters in front of Trein. Is Trein impressed? No, not at all. Yet your confidence in the Shroud and constant praise is reassuring. The professor’s going to make you force Idia into showing up in person in class. His attendance rivals Leona's.

sebek zigvolt

Doesn't really care for Sebek despite the first year's desperate attempts at trying to impress him. Sebek lost him after he started talking about Malleus when Trein asked about you. Ever since then, it’s just been him trying to win him back to no prevail. Kinda sad to watch. He’ll be the biggest gentleman ever: rushing to doors to open them for Trein, scrubbing his whole classroom for him from top to bottom, and yelling at other students to be quiet— though he was pretty much doing that before you two even got together. But every time Sebek gets close to winning the professor’s favor, he ends up going on a tangent about how amazing his liege is, and we're back at square one. You’ve got to rub him on the back and kiss him on the cheek while telling him, “Trein will come around one day!” Even if that day never comes.

silver

Not a fan. He’s witnessed Silver fall asleep in his class one too many times and thinks it's disrespectful. Once you tell Silver, he’s upset as it's not exactly something he can change, but will put in extra effort not only in Trein’s class but in all his classes. He studies with you beside him so you can prevent him from falling asleep when you see him get all drowsy-eyed. Trein immediately takes note of Silver’s hard work and grit as the boy passes his class with flying colors while asking if there’s anything he could do to help him after hours. It's only when he hears from his fellow teachers that Silver has been doing exceptionally well is he actually impressed. Afterwards, Trein will start being more understanding of Silver’s constant sleeping. He won't be any less strict, but he won’t lay into him for it as hard as before since learning it's out of Silver’s control. Trein thinks rather positively of your relationship, comparing it to the ones in the fairytales.

lilia vanrouge

A bit disturbed, to say the least. Lilia is older than him after all. Trein tried to keep a close eye on the two of you, but Lilia always caught him and pursued a staring match. Trein was always the first to look away. Lilia finds it entertaining. He tries to play tiny tricks on the professor, but you stop him at the very last minute. You sit down and try to explain that you deeply care about Trein and, by extension, what Trein thinks of him. Lilia proceeded to suggest that he brings Trein some cookies to win him over to which you immediately say no. Honestly, I don’t see Trein really ever warming up to Lilia. He just pretends the old bat doesn't exist and isn't your boyfriend. Lilia finds that incredibly funny while you're dying inside.

malleus draconia

The fact you were able to get close to the Draconia is an impressive feat to Trein. However, future ruler of Briar Valley or not, he intends to make sure that Malleus treats you right. Right when you tell Malleus that Trein is basically your father, the fae goes straight to the professor, confesses to him about your relationship, and swears to take good care of you with this ominous tone. Trein isn’t very fond of Malleus at first, struggling to decipher whether or not that introduction was genuine. It isn't until you go to him after class, gushing about the late-night walk you went on with Malleus yesterday and shoving cute little polaroid photos in his face does Trein begin to trust the fae. He makes sure to scold you for not being asleep at that time, yes, but he stares at one of the photographs for way too long, imagining you and Malleus as him and his late wife for a moment. A small smile appears on his face. However, he can’t help but think that the two of you are down a similar path; the happiest marriage ever, kids, and one lover outliving the other. A tragedy, but he’ll let you enjoy it while it lasts just like he did. As long as you’re happy.
