Those that deviate most significantly are labelled 'severely' Disabled. This standard is informed by a Capitalist system that values being 'productive' above all else. But we all know that your productivity is not your worth. So can we break this ableist yard stick already? Finally bit the bullet today. After my doctor yelled at me again asking why I'm making my life harder by not applying for this. Because I guess I felt like I was taking it away from someone else. Or my condition wasn't bad enough to deserve special treatment. Well in his words, these things are there to make your life better. Your life is hard enough. Don't make it unnecessary harder. So now I don't have to take 50 breaks walking from my car to the shop. (To catch my breath). Maybe just 10 breaks. But that's still something! And just because a person "looks healthy" or doesn't "look disabled" in your opinion, you have no idea what struggles they deal with, so don't attack people who Park in these spaces without all the facts. Just politely ask if they have a permit. If they don't, go nuts. But if they do, be understanding. Since becoming chronically ill a few years ago my hair (among a multitude of other things) has really really suffered. Over the last week or two my hair has stared falling out really bad again, hence drastic hair cut! Pictures No.1 Before chronic illnesses, the fit and healthy me!! No.2 How my hair has been since illnesses. Little hair growth, constant breakage and thin. My hair did respond well to a growth serum the last two months but then a week or so ago it started falling out in clumps, severe breakage and extremely fragile, leaving huge gaps missing especially noticeable at the back, breakage leaving only 2-3 inches of hair and so fragile even running my fingers through it pulled out loads of hair. No.3 Now. Had to make a decision to get a drastic hair cut to the shortest length at the back and layers to blend breakage all over. I was feeling sad about having my mom wash my hair for me and then saw an episode of Below Deck (love boats lol) where a yacht guest proudly announced that they hadn't washed their own hair in many years. It doesn't matter whether you need the help or not, the result is the same and that result is only pitiful when it's a Disabled person receiving it. *Important to acknowledge here that it's a major privilege to have adequate care, paid or otherwise.* ID It's a Venn diagram with one circle labelled Very Rich People and the other labelled Disabled People.
