I made a pattern for the terror gloves!!

Please note I'm not a professional and this is just for funsies, sorry for my clunky english but knitting terminology is a whole other beast lmao

I hope you can make some sense of this

Terror Gloves Tutorial

Disclaimer: I’m not a professional and I’ve never written a knitting pattern before, I just made this up as I went tbh, basing it on a german tutorial I used for regular fingerless gloves I had made a couple of times already, the fingers I made up on my own. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to make another pair to document the process for you as of right now, so you’ll have to work off of the pattern alone. Sorry for all the weird terminology, translating german knitting vocab to english fried my brain real good lads.

I’d say this is a beginner to intermediate level project, you should know how to purl and knit and how to make left leaning and right leaning increases. For the latter one I’ve linked a tutorial on YouTube at the part where it comes up in the pattern.

All that being said: I hope you enjoy making these gloves! Feel free to @ me on tumblr if you’d like to show them off :D

What you need:

- Yarn that requires you to use size 4 needles (3,5mm in the german/european system, the UK doesn’t carry the equivalent of this size for some reason, so use a size 10 or 9 depending on how tight you’re knitting); the color is obviously up to you, I used a grey close to the one most of the boys are sporting. I also used a 100% wool yarn, but I know those can be pricy so feel to use whatever is available to you :) I used about 50g, maybe a little more for my pair

-> Please note that I didn’t make a test swatch since I’ve used the base pattern of these gloves before and know that this size of needle works for me. I’d say I my tension when knitting is normal – tight so if you knit more loosely maybe choose smaller needles

- Size 4 double pointed needles (3,5 german/european, 10/9 UK)

- Safety pins

- Darning needle to weave in the ends

- Scissors

Tutorial:

- Cast on 11 stitches on four of your five double pointed needles

-> If you have smaller hands you might need to start with 10 instead of 11 stiches on each needle

- Join in the round and start the pattern for the ribbing that will make the glove a little tighter around your wrist, which means purl 2, knit 2, until the end of the row

- Repeat the purl – knit pattern for 20 rows

- Knit 10 regular rounds

- Now for the thumb: Knit 1, pick up 1 new stitch (it doesn’t matter if it’s left or right leaning), knit 1, place a safety pins on the needle behind that stitch so you can keep track of your increase section (tutorial for increases)

- Knit the rest of the round normally, as well as the round that follows

- Knit 1, make 1 left leaning increase, knit 1, make 1 right leaning increase, knit 1, slide the safety pin over

- Knit the rest of the round normally, as well as the round that follows; from now on the pattern will be one row with increases, one row without increases

- So in the next round with increases you will knit 2, make 1 left leaning increase, knit 1, make 1 right leaning increase, knit 2, slide the safety pin over

- Continue with this for 14 rounds (7 with and 7 without increases) until you have 15 stitches in the section framed by the safety pin

-> If you have small hands you might need to stop before reaching 14 rounds, your work should just about cover the first bone (going upward from the base) in your thumb. Maybe stop at 10 or 12 rounds, make sure you end on one without any increases

- After your last “no increases” round, before you start with the next round put the 15 stitches for the thumb on hold by sliding 7 of the stitches onto one safety pin, the other 8 onto another; you will not continue to work with these stitches (for now)

- Continue like normal and start knitting the rest of the stitches on the needle, making sure to join tightly to avoid a gap and finish the round

- Knit 11 regular rounds or until you reach the base of your pinky finger; you should have 42 stitches on all of your four needles right now

- We will start by knitting the pinky finger: For this knit normal until you’re at the second needle and have 5 stitches left on it

- Put all but 10 stitches (the ones on the second needle and the first 5 on the third needle) on hold by placing them ideally on two big safety pins or several smaller ones

- Knit normally until you reach the end of the second needle; here you will take a third needle and pick up 2 more stitches, one from the side the second needle is on, one from the side the first needle is on, so ideally, you’re keeping the gap that’s going to form between the fingers as small as possible

-> If you have small hands, you might only have to pick up 1 stitch or none at all; if you find that that’s the case split the 10 stitches onto three needles so they’re easier to work with and continue as written down below

- This was the first round; knit 9 more or until your work almost reaches the second bone in your pinky finger or just until you decide that it’s enough (feel free to try the gloves on as you go!), cast off and cut the yarn

- For the ring finger, pick up 10 stitches from the ones you put on hold, once again two needles with 5 stitches

- Join the yarn in the same place you started with the pinky finger

- Knit the first needle, then pick up 2 stitches on a new needle as I described it for the pinky finger

- Knit the 5 stitches on the second needle, then use yet another needle to once again pick up 2 stitches. You now have 14 stitches on 4 needles

-> If you have small hands, you might only have to pick up 1 stitch per new needle or just one stitch on one new needle

- Knit 14 more rows like this or until your work almost reaches the second bone in your ring finger or once again until you decide that it’s enough, cast off and cut the yarn

- The middle finger works exactly the same: Pick up 10 stitches from the safety pins, pick up 4 new stitches on two new needles, knit 15 rounds or however many, cast off and cut the yarn

- For the pointer finger you should have 12 stitches left since we started off with 42 in total (30 already “used” leaves 12) which means we only need to pick up 2 new stitches on one new needle (whether you pick them up on the side facing the thumb or the one facing the other fingers is up to you; I picked the one facing the thumb but picking the other one will probably look better)

-> If you have small hands, you might only have to pick up 1 stitch or none at all

- Knit 14 rounds or however many, cast off and cut the yarn

- Now to finish off the thumb: Put the stitches back onto your needles, 7 on one needle, 8 on another; now taking up a third needle slide the last stitch on the second needle onto it, pick up 2 new stiches around the base to make sure there’s minimal gaping, then pick up the first stitch on the first needle. You should now have a total of 17 stitches, split on three needles (6, 7 and 4 stitches) forming a triangle

- For the first round, join the yarn into the first stitch on the first needle; knit normally until you reach the third needle: Here you knit the first 2 and the last 2 stitches together, leaving you with 2 stitches on that needle

- Repeat this for the next round and knit the remaining 2 stitches on the third needle together, leaving you with 1 stitch on that needle (it can be finicky handling this third needle but it makes working the rounds a lot easier)

- Knit 5 rounds or until your work reaches over the second bone in your thumb, cast off and cut the yarn

- Weave in the ends; you might have to go back in with extra yarn if the holes between the fingers are too big for your liking

The new demands of my position are both a gift and a curse as I’m required to expand my knowledge base and think as a leader. There’s an element of freedom that I've been robbed of in this new position. There’s no time for fresh ideas and innovation in the same way there's no freedom to make mistakes. There’s no one to ask to review the work I have - I'm the final step in the pecking order before the other’s at my level look and ultimately Richmond’s eyes scan over it. I’d be lying if I said the thought doesn’t unnerve me. Dissatisfaction on his face and the scolding that will undoubtedly follow is a nagging inevitability. I’ve sat through so many briefings that I miss doing the work. This week has been an overwhelming barrage of discourse, planning and preparation. We’ve gone over logistics and transportation which is my specialty. Monaco is a logistical and transportation nightmare but I’ve taken all the necessary notes to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. Which includes sending one of my best agents there in person to scope out the scene and get the necessary measurements and blueprints. It’s my first major assignment and with my budget sky’s the limit. Consulting for the organization responsible for the formula one race's security is not something I ever considered in the realm of possibility; so I make the most of it. I add to my list of tasks and lock the documents before going over my new operating budgets. I still have money to spend but until my best guy is back I can’t be sure where the resources will be best allocated. I’m researching local charities in the area when Richmond appears in the doorway. It’s his first time stopping by all week and I can’t say I’ve missed the light eyed giant.

“Sir” I stand.

“Cole, I’ve received preliminary drafts from all the other teams. Is there something you require assistance with?” He asks, leaning in the doorway. He’s in a white knitted sweater today looking too casual for a man like him.

“I thought we had another week” I respond, disregarding how his arms fill out the otherwise cuddly, cozy ensemble, transforming it into something different altogether.

“I like to look over things by the project’s midpoint,” he explains, folding his arms.

“Well, I’m new and I didn’t know that” I swallow daring to meet his eyes.

“We can go over what you have for now,” Richmond says entering my office. I straighten, hating his presence and proximity. With Richmond it isn't walking on eggshells, it's like walking on glass barefoot. I stand walking over to the table and pressing the projector button. I unencrypted my files and show him what I’ve been working on. He watches attentively, his eyes scanning through the details projected in front of him.

“They’re color coded by threat level” he says perceptively interpreting the markings I have on the 3D map model of the area the races will take place in.

“Yeah, it determines what will work in terms of an emergency exits.” I state, explaining my process.

“So you don’t only look at routes?” He asks.

“No, when I develop my plans I consider routes, danger, closures, alternate routes and transportation that is as discreet as possible while being resilient and agile” I explain and he nods zooming in on my tablet.

“You’re looking for places to land helicopters? Possible counter sniper positions.” He says interpreting my work in seconds. Impressive isn’t the word. Nothing is explicitly stated there’s just circles, dots, x’s and stars in a variety of colours.

“Yeah” I nod and he looks from the tablet back to me, with a ghost of a smirk on his lips, only for it to be gone as soon as it appears.

“You’re doing Jameson work for him.” He comments.

“I understand why our teams are separate but I think all aspects should inform each other” I swallow and his expression hardens.

“That’s not your job. It’s to take direction. No one should be fully informed of the other's actions in case of leaks. Your team needs to be agile. Keep your work to yourself” he orders going back to his military facade.

“With all the testing you still don’t trust us?” I ask and he scowls. His jaw sets before clicking as he clenches it.

“It’s not about trust. It’s about what a person gives away during torture. How can I protect my team from that? The rules are in place for a reason. Adhere to them” he orders again but his eyes are more sensitive. If I were a psychiatrist I could diagnose his paranoia and mood swings but as a civilian I table my judgement.

“The non patronizing way to say that is; follow protocol Cole” I quip before he gets carried away and it ends poorly.

“I don’t care if you don’t like my delivery. At least you’ll be alive not to like it” he comments standing. I can't help the sharp look I send his way. If he were anyone else I wouldn’t put up with it. “Good work” he says finally but somehow the praise falls flat.

“Have you lost a lot of people?” I ask and the tension in his shoulders answers the question in an instant. His expression sobers.

“I’ve seen a lot of death,” he nods. I look him over before nodding. It at least explains his incessant over preparation and commitment to structure, secrecy and preventative measures.

“I’m sorry,” seems the only appropriate response.

“You won’t have to be if you follow protocol. Your safety equipment needs to be fitted before we go wheels up, go see Cassandra. I’m scheduling you for some extra hand to hand” he says adding more to my plate.

“I don’t have time for extra hand to hand, I’m behind” I tell him pointing to the projections.

“No you’re not” he swallows. “You’ll fry your brain if you continue staring at blueprints. Movement will serve you more than sitting at your desk” he says parroting what I’ve heard from Jameson. I wonder if it's advice Jameson has commandeered from the Boss.

“Okay” I concede. RIchmond seems surprised by my concession but he nods, slipping his hands into the pockets of his trousers. Cassandra appears in the doorway and I let out a relieved breath.

“I hope you’re being nice.” she says, looking him over. Richmond doesn’t dignify her with a response. “Are you finished or can I steal Cole - her safety second skins are in” Cassandra says.

“We’re done and I have ten minutes” he says looking at his watch. I go along with them walking to his office suite instead of asking questions. Two suits wait in a box in his conference room. One is my perfect nude shade, it nearly looks like mesh but it's made of something stronger. It’s fully opaque and when I hold it up I frown wondering what in the T’Challa Black Panther, Richmond has paid for me to wear.

I raise a brow. “What’s this for?”

“Protection, no burns, cuts or bullets can pierce it. A safety precaution” Cassandra responds.

“Try it on,” Richmond says, stepping out of the room.

“Please!” Cassandra scowls at him as she closes the door. I hold it up again and wonder what else money can buy. I head into the ensuite and I undress quickly. I step into the unitard that fits almost like a second skin. I manage the nearly invisible zipper at my side and look in the mirror. I look remarkably naked and tense up when I see shaded contouring that could pass for real hips and ass.

“Need help?” I hear Cassandra ask from outside.

“Uhh?” I respond and she giggles.

“That’s exactly how I felt - can we come in?” she asks.

“I guess” I responded, not quite sure. I remind myself I’m not naked as I leave the bathroom and re-enter the conference room as they come in. Cassandra’s eyes scan me.

“Toes are wonky” she says to Richmond whose eyes are glued to my body.

“The suit is wonky” he comments with eyes on my breasts. “May I touch you?” he asks without making eye contact.

“Ok” I respond unsure if no is even an option and he stands behind me pulling the material taut until I can feel it on my chest and stomach like a corset. When I look behind he hes standing with a handful of the suit.

“That’s how it should fit” he tells Cassandra, sparing a look her way. The suit feels completely different with this kind of tension. He grapes lower, gathering the same amount of fabric in the small of my back. I feel like a doll in his care as he manhandles the suit. It’s oddly erotic, or maybe it’s been too long since a man has had his hands on me. He goes to do the same around my hips but there’s no stretch left.

“Can you see if there’s any give?” he asks as if he hasn't already probably made at least five HR violations. I oblige finding some give.

“Hold it like that” Richmond demands and I wonder if he’s this bossy in bed. Girl, get your head out of the gutter!

“Cassandra test its resistance” he says and Cassandra comes over with some sort of scanner gun reading all over my body noting weak points with a red marker as well as what needs to be removed.

“The suit has to fit like a glove, it’s most effective when the fibres are extended to their limit they interlock creating … well armour.” she explains.

“What if I have to pee?” I ask being practical.

“You’ll get a zipper once everything else fits seamlessly” Cassandra explains. It’s another level of overkill.

“Does everyone wear these?” I ask.

“They aren't required for smaller scale events, I always wear mine for the big ones” she explains. Richmond is still staring at me and it makes me feel naked, the proximity, the physical toughness, the attention. My body hums like a starving stomach craving sustenance. I’m gonna need to see a therapist for sure, I think looking away from him and back to Cassandra who clears her throat.

“Mr. Richmond, you have a call in two” she says to him and he nods, peeling his eyes from my ass.

“Ensure it fits perfectly...Please” He says, taking one last look at me. He looks at Cassandra who nods with a smirk on her lips before leaving.

“I’m gonna go change” I announce heading into the restroom. When I get out I hand her the suit.

“Is he always so hands on?” I ask, a little unnerved.

“Hands on… he was with me but he was a lot less attentive and there was a lot more back and forth bickering until he pulled it so tight I couldn't breathe comfortably.” she discloses amused.

“I’m pretty sure that’s wrong of him” I remark.

“Terry’s like family - he’d never actually hurt me and lord knows he could” she huffs sitting on the conference table. Her disposition makes me think of them like siblings opposed to coworkers. The most toxic workplaces have the ‘family titles’ it's definitely a red flag.

“So how was your first week?’ she beams crossing her legs but my mind is on how it felt to be constricted in his hold and hugged by the suit.

“I’ve only considered quitting right now” I smile and she laughs.

“I came to your office because I was sure there was going to be fireworks. Terry was too but with how at ease he was I'd say you’re doing amazing on your first assignment. What was his feedback? I can help you decode its meaning to stay on his good side.” she smiles and I’m excited until I realize there was none.

“He just told me to stick to the protocol and that I did a good job. Oh and he prescribed extra hand to hand” I explain and her eyes light. Her smile widens like a Cheshire cat and she shakes her head.

“He’s setting me up to fail isn't he?” I ask, afraid of some humiliation ritual test.

Cassandra shakes her head. “No Lorence, it means you're keeping him up at night. He must think you're one of the best”

“I don’t copy.” I confess.

“The best agents are all the same Lorence and they never leave their people behind when shit hits the fan. He doesn't think you’ll be tripped up by the plans so he’s preparing you for the people.” she explains.

“Do I have anyone but him to fear?” I ask.

“No, that’s how I know you’re keeping him up. The guys that we’d need to fear see us as menu options - they don't know we’re trained to kick their ass and so they never have security with them. They’re easy to outsmart before things get ‘hand to hand’” Cassandra explains and it’s consistent with training. I get a reverie of the intensity in Richmonds eyes as he held the extra fabric of my suit taut, again. I never put much stock in her words before.

“I think you're wrong. Richmond doesnt look like he needs help attracting women. I’m sure you’ve had to shoo away your fare share.” I respond.

“Are you kidding?! He’s a work-a-holic. I've only seen him flirt for better access. His indiscretions are kept from me if they exist” she comments. “Come on, let's go shopping for after hours in Monaco - I have a few party invites with an open plus one slot.” she winks and it sounds like a good way to relax and enjoy the rest of the day. Retail therapy is still therapy after all.

Cassandra and I end up in the heart of the city in stores with names that English speakers need tutorials to pronounce. Cassandra can sell salt to a snail because she convinces me to indulge in whims that are unfamiliar and then she swipes the company card stating outfits while on vacation are somehow a business expense. Paranoia makes me set aside the amounts in case it’s some test or something the Boss intends to scream at me for later. But for the rest of the night from shopping all the way to my night routine I’m a little uneasy. Terry Richmond’s ability to rattle me is unmatched. Whether in anger or cloaked kindness. The intensity of his expression is imprinted in my mind.

I lay awake in bed slightly amused by the irony of Cassandra’s words. At least if they’re true I’m keeping him from sleeping too. It feels like some consolation for all he’s put me through. Maybe my haywire feelings are the result of something akin to Stockholm syndrome. The result of that stupid test. His gaze comes back to me again and the attention held within them. My body heats as recognition clicks into place, its reaction starts to make sense. After years of feeling unnerved and unsure I’ve read the first real emotions from him. There was real sincerity in his eyes. No resentment or animosity. Maybe hints of more complicated emotions but at its core it seemed to be pure preoccupation with my safety.

My body seems to settle at my brain's recognition of the day's events. The anxious energy leaves my body and I settle when it becomes clear to me that before all else my boss wants me to be okay. Before I take my last conscious thought, I promise to move forward with Richmond with that at the forefront of my brain.

FTH Signup: Changes and what to expect

The FTH signup form is long and can be confusing, especially for newbies! We've put together a brief overview document so you know what information you'll be expected to provide for your auctions. Please note that there is no "acceptance" process! If you fill out the form, we will generate an auction for you.

Here is the full list of this year's listed fandoms, but remember you can write in any fandoms you want that aren't on the menu!

If this isn't your first rodeo, please note the following changes from previous years:

You can now set a requirement that you will only accept bidders age 18+. It is important to note that if you do this, we cannot actually prevent minors from bidding on you! However, it will be noted clearly on your auction post, and if you later learn that your high bidder is under the age of 18, you will be released from your obligation and they will be banned.

You can now offer multiple Written fanwork subtypes in one auction

Podfics now have shorter length options

We have split the content notes into four sections instead of three: Characters/pairings you are especially interested in, Subjects/tropes you're especially interested in, Anything you are NOT willing to address, and Other Notes. Each of these has a limit of 1500 characters. Note that you will need to fit your information for all chosen fandoms in this space.

Adding to the specialty tags Ace/aro characters, Gen/platonic works, and Rarepairs

Major changes to the fandom list:

Four new umbrella fandoms with subfandoms: MXTX works, HBO War, Minecraft Youtubers, and Thai BL. Note that MXTX's works will NOT be grouped together on the tag list on Dreamwidth, only for signup purposes, unlike most umbrella fandoms.

We are introducing a new "Any fandom I've created in before" option. This will take up one of your three fandom slots, but will NOT be tagged, therefore if you choose this option, we recommend you also choose your two most active fandoms to help bidders find you. Also be sure that the list of fandoms you've created in before is either in your auction text or easily found via your portfolio link.

One more big change that returning participants will notice: we are changing the listing format to have one auction per post, rather than combining all of a creator's auctions into one. We hope that this will make the auction simpler to navigate for everyone.

Notes on Delivery and Postpartum (By Dr. H. Farnsworth)

The final phase of Mr. Cooper’s pregnancy culminated in an intensive two-day labor at our clinic. In an era shaped by wartime separation, the Coopers’ experience stands as a testament to resilience, partnership, and the efficacy of consistent prenatal care.

Unbiased: Is it true that the SAVE Act will take away the right to vote for married women who have changed their last name?

Disclaimer: I am neither Republican nor Democrat. Everything is purely unbiased and factual. This is false, but we need some context here:

The SAVE Act, officially known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, was first introduced last year. Its main goal is to require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for individuals registering to vote in federal elections.

Currently, while only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote in federal elections, the Supreme Court precedent states that documentary proof is not required—it is sufficient to simply attest to citizenship under penalty of perjury. As a result, not all states require proof of citizenship when registering voters. However, if the SAVE Act is passed, this would change.

Under this proposed law, voters would need to provide proof of citizenship with a document that meets REAL ID requirements in order to have their voter registration application accepted for federal elections. This could include a passport or another government-issued ID, but if using a non-passport ID, the applicant would also need to present a birth certificate or a similar document, such as a naturalization certificate. It is important to note that this requirement applies only to federal elections—state election requirements may differ.

Concerns About Married Women and Name Changes

Notes: Hear me out... Actually no, I have no good explanation for this. We don't have enough research papers in the Genshin fandom. I'm here to change that. Dottore waved a dismissive hand, clearly having to restrain himself from letting further venom into his words, "We do not. Which is why you are relieved of your duties for the next week. Figure something out. I don't care about the contents, make it harmless and get it published."

You blinked at him, well aware that you must look like a fish struggling to breathe. With a tight jaw, you lowered your head in acceptance, already mourning all the extra hours you'd have to put in to catch up next week.

Well. If he doesn't care, why not make it interesting? As The Regrator said; sex sells.

Courtship and mating behaviours observed in Duplicare Dottorensis

Note that full taxonomic classification remains unclear as the class this species belongs to remains a heated topic for debate. The scientific community is in agreeance that the species belongs to one of the classes within the phylum 'chordata'.

Though asexual reproduction is speculated to occur most frequently - the exact process has yet to be observed, but bears some resemblance to that of some single celled organisms - fully matured individuals have been seen partaking in behaviour interpreted as courtship.

As this species is rumored to exhibit an unrivalled level of variety in the strategies they employ to secure a mate, this study aimed to monitor a population and document every observed strategy. By doing so, the authors hope to quell the countless rumors currently circulating and causing unrest.

By employing a variety of techniques including, but not limited to; usage of subdetection units, combing through historical records, eye-witness accounts, and catching and marking select individuals, this document attempts to provide a detailed account of behavior associated with sexual reproduction.

Pacify with food

A younger segment, around the age at which The Doctor was still a student (~20), was watched closely for three days after exhibiting a strange shift in behavior. During feeding time, he would sneak off to the kitchens and, while staff was unaware, pocket scraps and spares of various foods. Strangely enough, he seemed to gravitate towards dishes that wouldn't require utensils, but instead take a bit of time to prepare and eat (various fruits that would have to first be peeled seemed to be a preference, although desserts also held his interest).

On the third day, he spent nearly two hours trying to wrap the bounty up neatly, cursing the entire time. Once satisfied with the - in our opinion rather crude - wrapping, he singled out Prime's partner going about their routine and approached carefully. Once he was within range and had their attention, he placed down the 'gift' and gave it a little kick before backing off. While they were opening it, he continued to hover around them, preferring to stay behind while continuously checking how far with unwrapping they were.

When he finally gained the courage to shorten the distance, the gift was fully unwrapped and inspected, yet they made no move to start eating. This seemed to cause the young individual a great amount of discomfort as he promptly turned and fled the room. (1)

Non-violent display of physical prowess

Another, slightly older (~25), segment exhibits drastically increased confidence compared to the younger version. By employing bribery and coercion, this version (believed to have been created to emulate the mindset of The Doctor shortly after attaining his title) recruited several other segments, all younger than himself, and spent about a week putting them through rigorous training.

This took place in a secluded room, often during the late evening or at night, and would go on for about two hours per session. We were lucky enough to have already installed a surveillance device in this room, meaning we had access to large amounts of video material (send an inquiry to The Doctor if you wish to gain access).

The segment of interest would instruct the younger ones to accompany him in an elaborate routine with his weapon, seemingly having them act as 'backing' to further highlight his superiority. The youngest of the group would be seated atop a table and simply observe, possibly standing in for the role of a prospective mate. (2)

Rough displays of physical prowess

As it quickly turned out, the above display is only utilised by a minority of the segments at that age. By far, the most frequently observed behaviour among segments of The Doctor's early days as a harbinger would be attempting to establish dominance.

While segments frequently engage in discussions and even loud arguments, these had a tendency to derail - sometimes to the point of violence - in the presence of Prime's partner.

During our period of monitoring, a total of 27 heated arguments took place in the presence of Prime's partner with all of them devolving to personal insults, 15 to minor acts of violence, and two of them escalating to the point of both segments being deactivated temporarily to undergo repairs. (3)

Occasionally, older segments were prone to display this behavior as well, but preferred to argue with Prime instead of fellow segments. This made for an interesting discovery, as younger segments would use these periods of distraction to attempt sneakily approaching Prime's partner. By keeping an eye on the argument taking place, the younger segments could time their attempted courtship and escape before neither Prime nor the older segment could discover what was happening. (4)

The impersonal approach

While only a single segment was observed to display this behaviour, it was still deemed essential to include due to the objective of this paper as well as the particular segment's relative importance.

The Omega segment, recognised as the most arrogant segment (and seeing himself as superior to the rest, the bastard) took a much more subdued approach to courting Prime's partner. During the daytime, Omega let himself into Prime's quarters - the author managed to sneak in behind him - and searched around for a brief moment.

Once he'd located a drawer of interest, Omega proceeded to rid himself of the lower half of his outfit, revealing (to the author's surprise) what appeared to be a fully functioning reproductive organ. Even more surprising were the subsequent actions, as Omega then detached this part, gave it a quick rinse, and placed it in the drawer.

Looking awfully satisfied with himself, the segment left Prime's quarters. The content of the drawer were confirmed to be a selection of toys. (5)

The unapologetic approach

Interestingly, segments older than Omega displayed the same levels of detachment from the copulation itself, but adopted a more direct approach to guarantee their succes.

This culminated in a confrontation when a segment assessed as middle-aged brought Prime's partner into the vivisection room. The segment in question had been observed tinkering with a vial of milky fluid and a device for automated injection, likely its own design.

Upon leading Prime's partner inside, the usually mild-tempered segment proceeded to forcefully restrain the other, strapping them down on the table. (At this point, the author was following events closely and alerted Prime).

The segment stripped Prime's partner and proceeded to carefully disinfect their abdomen while seemingly debating if a sedative was necessary. Upon picking up the delivery for injection and letting the sharp tip rest against their skin, the segment was interrupted by Prime breaking open the door.

Though no harm came to his partner, the segment received a rough scolding and was promptly sent to Liyue to check on a minor operation there. (6)

Minimal risk approach

The most baffling display was, by far, the strategy employed by some of the older segments. At first, their behaviour was written off as irrelevant to this study, but a chance discovery unveiled their cunning scheme.

During or after the fights between younger segments, described earlier, these segments would single out ones that looked interested in joining the fight but hadn't, or approach the loser afterwards. Under a false guise of kindness, they would then offer to teach the younger segment how to approach Prime's partner, claiming that they themselves "weren't interested, but sees no reason to not help".

This would in nearly all instances end in some form of sexual activity during which the older segment would discreetly tinker with the other segment's leyline connection. To figure out the purpose of this, one of the older segments were approached and questioned on the topic.

Apparently, the process finetunes the connection between the two segments, allowing for a period of time where they can - if they've discovered how to access it - feel on their own body what happens to the other. This usually lasts around a week, and the older segment will then sit back and simply wait. If the younger segment manages to engage in mating with Prime's partner, the older segment will be able to feel every part of the pleasure, while risking none of the repercussions of being discovered by Prime. (7)

Long term investment

Though initially outside the scope of this study, it was impossible to avoid observing Prime himself interacting with his partner. As such, it was decided that his behaviour would serve as an interesting reference, as he is the sum over time of the segments.

Prime is, perhaps unsurprisingly, much more relaxed about courting his partner, likely because he does not feel threatened by the segments. Still, it was noted that Prime would at times discard his work to enter his private workspace. Upon leaving, he would head straight for their shared quarters before returning to his scheduled work again.

When questioned, his partner immediately realised what I was referring to and invited me into their quarters (stating that they found it humorous to include Prime in this). Upon entry, they began showing off various gadgets, drawings, and trinkets, some of them elaborate and others of a simpler nature, stating that they could hardly mention any contraption that would make their life easier without Prime returning with it a few days later.

They also showed decorative pieces made by Prime as well as a few pieces of jewellery, explaining that his hands were always busy with something, and that often resulted in little gifts. Interestingly, the vast majority of these gifts wouldn't be announced by him, but simply placed where his partner would notice, and when questioned, he usually just shrugs. (8)

Conclusion

Though many different strategies for courting were observed, it still remains unclear if they are constrained to different ages. Setting up such experiments would be the next logical step.

If this is representative of how Prime courted at different stages of his life, then the author would love to know how on Teyvat he managed to land a partner???

Declaration of conflict of interest

The author of this paper is employed by The Doctor but ensures he had no influence on data collection, analysis, or writing. Furthermore, the author is aware of their bias regarding segment Omega (take the credit for my findings one more time, and I'll break that artificial dick of yours).

Appendix

(1) In many species of arachnids, the male risks being cannibalised when approaching a female to mate. For this reason, he brings a nupital gift, most often consisting of food in hopes of distracting the female while he mounts her. Some males will stuff their woven packages with not only food, but inedible scraps as well, to increase the size. There are examples (Latrodectus hasselti) where the male will willingly wriggle in front of the female to tempt her into eating him. This supposedly increases his paternity compared to males that don't sacrifice themselves. (2) The blue manakin (Chiroxiphia caudata) performs a courtship dance for the female. The male is backed by several younger males (they jump over each other on branches while moving sideways) and does various movements to display his health. The dance ends with the male swooping over to the female where he waits for her decision. The birds spend a good amount of time on practice, and will have a young male stand in for a female during these trial runs. It's incredibly fun to watch videos of. (3) Members of the Cervidae (deer) family have bucks going through ruts, during which they become increasingly aggressive. While fighting over females, the bucks will occasionally get their antlers stuck - either in its surroundings or tangled with another buck's antlers - in cases where the buck is unable to free themselves, they may starve. (4) Mirounga spp. (elephant seals) employ 'sneaky' behaviour during breeding seasons. An alpha male will establish a territory to protect and lure females in to establish a harem. Smaller beta males will often wander around along the edges of these territories and observe the alpha. A beta male might attempt to fight the alpha for the rights to the territory, and during this time, younger males might sneak past the two fighting to mate. The beta male will also sometimes wait for the alpha to be busy copulating and then try his luck in the other end of the territory. (5) Argonauta spp. (paper nautili, a genus of octupuses) has a funky way of mating. Males are around a tenth of the size of a female and only capable of mating once in their life. They approach the female, inserting a specialised arm (hectocotylus) into the female (the pallial cavity) and then proceeds to detach the arm from his own body. Fun facts; when the hectocotylus was originally observed in females, it was assumed to be a parasitic worm. Live males have yet to be observed in the wild. (6) Some beetles, such as the Hydrophilidae family (water scavenger beetles) will mount a female and pierce her abdomen with his reproductive organ. In this particular family of beetles, the female must consent and lower herself, but that is not the case for all beetles. (7) Drakaea glyptodon, along with many other orchids, have developed a distinct leaf known as the 'labellum' (commonly called the 'lip') to better attract pollinators. This labellum is specifically modified to resemble females of the orchid's selected pollinator (in this case a species of thynid wasp). Most orchids have few or just a single pollinator (there's a cool example of an orchid whose pollinator is extinct and we only know it from the shape of the labellum, the plant is Ophrys apifera has since developed self-pollination but retains the labellum). Once an insect has been lured to attempt mating with the labellum and thus lands on the orchid, some pollen will be slapped onto it and it then carries that pollen along to the next orchid that tricks it into landing. (8) Members of the family Ptilonorhynchidae (bowerbirds) construct elaborate structures to impress a female. These bowers will also be decorated using a plethora of items, all of them carefully selected based on colour preference of the individual species. Items typically include fruits, stones, shells, flowers, and feathers. Some species have also been observed to place these items in a way that essentially creates an optical illusion, making the male and his crafted bower appear larger and more impressive.

Domain of Volica/Volca (Lore and Timeline)

Pronounced: VOLE-KA

Quick Summary: Located near a dormant underwater Volcano in the Northern Akkala Sea, Volica is a Domain ravaged by recent political upheaval. Once flourishing reefs laid barren by over fishing practices, the Domain is now leading recovery efforts.

Volica predominantly focuses on the extraction of valuable minerals and materials from its underwater volcano. Ores are turned into pure metals by a smelting process and used to produce a variety of goods, and gems are exported or repurposed for their unique elemental properties.

Until recently the Domain was fairly self sufficient, being able to meet most of its own necessities. Now it must form alliances, or risk dissolution.

FULL LORE BELOW!

~ Origins ~

Volica's origins begin with a nomadic zoran mining community. For centuries these zoras traveled from place to place, mining in various regions for ores to barter with until one day they happened upon a dormant underwater Volcano (or seamount) abundant with materials.

Conveniently located several miles out from land, the zoras couldn't believe their luck. Because such a find meant no competition. Gorons sink (being well…rocks), Hylian's can't breath underwater, and neither can Rito! They'd be the only ones able to mine from such a find!

Unwilling to pass on such an opportunity, these zoras settled on a scenic cliff face bordering the ocean. In due time their little community grew, eventually becoming the flourishing Domain of "Volca" or "Volica". Lovingly named after the Volcano they so revere.

Wait a minute hold up- why are there two ways to spell the Domain's name? Well that's cause no one can fuckin agree on it, to the point it's become THE #1 most heatedly debated topic. Technical documents found in the Domain's historical library usually spell it as “Volica”, and Non-technical documents (think casual everyday history records or diaries) spell it as “Volca”.

Rumor has it these differences stem from disagreements between various founders. Some wanted to spell it closer to how it's pronounced. Others wanted to add flourish. And Slippery Dick (that's an actual type of fish btw)? Well Dick really just wanted to piss everyone off.

Silvyr: It's Volica.

Fen'an: It's Volca.

Nyvor: What about Volïca?

Thresh (whose illiterate): You three have been saying the same goddamn thing for the last ten minutes. Shut the fuck up.

~ Volica’s Top Five Professions ~

1.) Mining

Most common. Harvesting from the Volcano is considered a high honor, and is done so with great respect to the sea and earth. The zoras understand not to harvest in excess, as not only is doing so dangerous (tunnels need to be carefully reinforced, and require time to “settle” to prevent cave-ins), but taking excessively without being mindful of how said harvesting is performed can damage the mines, waters, and surrounding ecosystem.

Even if a mine is found to be abundant with materials, if said mine is dug too deep or begins disrupting the natural ecosystem/structural integrity of the Volcano (it may be dormant but that does not mean it is extinct) it will be abandoned in favor of starting new mining tunnels.

As one might imagine, Volcanoes are hot (and not in a sexy way)! To withstand these hot environmental conditions workers wear sapphire inlaid PPE. Imbued with the power of ice, this gem has become a trademark favorite of the Domain.

2.) Smelter Workers

Underwater mine tunnels require reinforcements (less so than on land mines, as water buoyancy helps maintain structural integrity by opposing the weight of rock). As the tensile strength of timber decreases within water and said material degrades quickly it is not viable to use underwater, so Volica uses stainless steel I Beams instead. To produce stainless steel for its mining and architectural needs Volica has smelting factories.

Using materials obtained from the mines, smelter workers use smelting factories to extract metal from melted ores. After a secondary separation process the “purified” metal is then placed into molds to cool and harden.

Smelters are powered by raw zoran strength and supplemented by heat from rubies, gems that harness the power of fire.

Want some imagery? Well imagine Iron Town from Princess Mononoke, and the factory powered by women, similar concept but BUFF zora power is used (these zoras are JACKED).

To be further elaborated upon in Silvyr’s Lore - due to the intense heat within smelting factories zoras with water magic are brought in to cool down workers and help prevent meltdowns. In Volica, all water magic users are born from one specific clann. Silvyr is from this particular clann.

3.) Food Gathering

Volica is incredibly dependent on its local reefs (located next to the Domain’s cliff face) for food. Roughly 85% of their food is obtained from the reefs by fishers, with 10% obtained on land by hunters, and the remaining 5% by trade.

Being near the Volcano has become both a blessing and a curse. Why? Well the hydrothermal activity of the underwater Volcano makes the waters of the Northern Akkala Sea an ideal breeding ground for a particularly aggressive invasive fish, the dreaded sizzlefin trout!

Accidentally introduced into the ecosystem nearly 200 years ago by passing merchant vessels, the population of this invasive fish has spiraled out of control, and completely driven out the native fish of the Northern Akkala Sea, leaving nothing but small fry and other inedible creatures left!

And you know what's worse? Volica zora can't eat sizzlefin trout, because they're inexplicably allergic to them!

Well, at least they’ve managed to prevent the sizzlefin trout from infesting their reefs. Nothing can possibly go wrong when your population is almost completely dependent on one food source…..right?

4.) Blacksmithing

With an abundance of materials available, blacksmithing has become a popular trade in the Domain. Blacksmiths produce weapons, armor, jewelry, decorations, and even PPE!

5.) Fighters/Defenders

Those who protect the Domain are placed within one of the two following categories;

Knights: More structured than their Warrior counterpart, Knights work within teams, are formally educated, disciplined, and directly employed under the royal crown.

Warriors: Less structured than their Knightly counterpart, Warriors operate independently (only teaming up with others if they so please). They are paid based on results/missions, and often utilize different/unique fighting styles and weapons. Those who train to be Knights and are deemed….unsuitable for the position (read: disobedient) usually become Warriors (i.e. Thresh).

Knights/Warriors are ranked by the color of their armor/accessories, which are: Silver (Novice), Bronze (Advanced), Gold (Expert), and Blued (Certified BAMF. This metal is blackish in appearance and a sign of prestige, for it recognizes the dedication and sacrifices one has made to protect the Domain. Few have earned it).

Blued armor is produced via a process called fire bluing. To blue metal, its surface must be polished to a near mirror finish. A Knight or Warrior shall polish the metal themselves before providing it to a blacksmith for bluing. This typically takes months to achieve, and is an age-old tradition performed to honor the steel that will adorn their scales for the rest of their life.

Those who achieve such a status may also gift blued accessories to their mates. What a cool way to show you're married to a badass amiright?

~ The Monarchy ~

Structured as a typical Monarchy, the Queen and King rank at the top of society, governing with final say and authority. They are followed closely in rank by a council run and formed by Nobles, who once held the highest positions (diplomats, traders, right-hands, ect.) within the Domain (note, this was the structure before the coup).

Originally Volica had a fantastic queen. She kept the Nobles and her husband, the King (a zora who married in from another Domain to establish an alliance. It was not a great marriage), under strict control. She was outspoken, stern, and ruthless whenever the King and Nobles attempted to oppose her, favoring the people and their well being over those who ranked highest in society.

Then one day, she fell ill.

Over time her mysterious illness worsened, and with the ailing Queen unable to manage the King and Nobles, they began to favor profit over their people. This marks the beginning of The Reign of the Corrupt King.

Using bottom trawling methods, The King and Nobles began excessively harvesting fish from Volica’s nearby reefs, and selling off the excess for profit. The effects of this aren't immediate, but inevitably the reef's ecosystem becomes disrupted, and with the Nobles continuing to trade away what little food is being obtained for profit the Domain spirals into a famine.

Aha! Now I can go into the timeline and bring you up to speed about what happened and where things are now! But before I do, allow me to quickly introduce you to a few key characters, so you have some knowledge to put to their names!

~ Key Characters ~

Silvyr (They/Them):

Captain of Volica's Knights, Silvyr is regarded as a lethal, but slowly deteriorating weapon. They are intellectual, collected, and fiercely loyal with strong personal morals, favoring the well being and safety of their community above all else, even themselves. Their ability to wield powerful ice magic has consequently given them numerous health problems.

Post coup Silvyr retires as a Captain to become a Diplomat, Advisor, ect., essentially doing whatever tasks are needed of them to manage the Domain.

Thresh (he/him/they/them):

Volica's loose cannonball and top ranking warrior, Thresh is considered a menace by those who wish to control him. He is rowdy, playful, and incredibly social, getting along with virtually anyone and anything. He gets up to alot of mischief, thrives under chaos, and faces adversity with a smile.

Thresh is head over fins in love with Nyvor, his best friend of nearly 15 years who he has been relentlessly flirting with the entire damn time.

Nyvor (he/him):

A powerful healer and well-rounded medic, Nyvor is empathetic, nurturing, and altruistic. Recognized by many as a trustworthy individual, others tend to confide in him during their hardships. He has taken an oath to do no harm upon others, and is so incredibly pacifistic that he sometimes cries over having to eat fish.

Nyvor is head over fins in love with Thresh, but is incredibly dense.

Fen'an (she/her):

[FULL BIO + ART HERE]

One very strong gal, Fen'an is sociable, outspoken, and very feisty. She works for Volica's Rescue and Retrieval program, rescuing miners trapped in cave-ins and retrieving wounded knights/warriors during battle.

She's also a professional dancer, and dances for Volica's royal court whenever called upon. It was a great gig till the Queen fell ill, and she started noticing things.....did I mention she has a short fuse where it pertains to terrible people?

Necalli (she/her) (belongs to @vaquero-azul-art):

Standing at a towering 15 ft tall, Necalli is the most experienced and oldested warrior still on active duty within the Domain. Despite her battle worn appearance, she is incredibly charismatic and kind. Warriors frequently seek her out for tutelage, eager to learn from someone so skilled. She helped train Thresh, who later succeeded her in becoming the top warrior within the Domain. She is regarded as the unofficial "leader" of the Warriors.

~Timeline (where it all goes to Shit)~

Year 0

The Queen falls ill and the King and Nobles begin taking small steps to secure power. The Reign of the Corrupt King begins.

Year 5

Renowned for his healing abilities, word of Nyvor eventually reaches the Domain. The Queen herself sends a group of warriors to recruit him, hoping he'll be able to cure her of her mysterious ailment, and if not, slow down the progress of the disease.

Nyvor accepts the position, and he and his slither (sea krait equivalent to a pod) relocate to the Domain.

Small signs of disruption begin to show within the Domain’s food distribution system, and the King and Nobles seem to be opposing the weakened Queen more and more frequently.

Year 10

The Queen has fallen into a coma. Food shortages are occurring, a result of fishers returning empty handed more often than not. A famine is knocking at the door, barely staved off by new policies on food consumption put in place by the Nobles. Silvyr (currently Captain of the Domain's Knights) is becoming worried for the health of those around them, and begins to investigate, recruiting those they trust (Fen’an and @vaquero-azul-art seahorse butler Xipilli) and have access to the court's inner circle.

Year 17

The famine is in full swing. Zora are starving, the reefs ecosystem is almost destroyed, the miners are being overworked. Silvyr, along with others, suspect the corruption lies with one particular Noble who governs food distribution. They’ve been trying to get him tried for two years now, but the other Noble’s keep delaying it.

Everyone is discontent. Many contemplate leaving the Domain but upending one's life to move isn't easy, and there have been instances of zora leaving and getting caught, who were then punished. This has created a sense of fear and uncertainty.

Silvyr begins taking the necessary measures to formulate a coup (recruiting, planning, preparing, ect.). Many are aware, but wisely hush about it. There is hope, but how many will leave or starve before Silvyr is able to take action?

Year 18.5

Thresh is FED UP WITH THIS BULLSHIT. He is tired of waiting for Silvyr to initiate the coup. Silvyr, understandably, has to move slowly, less they and others get caught and hanged for treason, but Thresh is one very impatient and pissed off zora. So, in an act of anger fueled aggression, he kills the Noble (and a few others for good measure) who everyone thinks is the source of the problem.

Too bad he’s a terrible planner, because Nyvor (who was returning from the Queen’s room after his latest check up on her) catches him in the act. Utterly in love with Thresh, and desperate to protect him in the only way he knows how, Nyvor takes the fall for the murder.

'Even now....he treats me gently....'

This is all Thresh can think as Nyvor slowly plucks the bloodied blade from their hand. Nyvor’s motions are slow, and there is a gentleness to his actions that betray his hidden affections towards the small zora. If Thresh was not so overwhelmed with confusion, perhaps they would have noticed, but alas, this was not the case.

"Nyvor, what are you doing?"

The clatter of armor echoes faintly in the distance. Guards are approaching, and they are early in their check in rounds.

"Protecting you."

Thresh’s breath stills. They watch, stricken, as Nyvor moves towards the corner of the room, and brandishes their own weapon against them.

"Stop. Fuck! Don’t you dare-"

Nyvor's smile is kind. Loving. And his voice is soft. A stark contrast to his intimidating stature.

"It's okay Thresh. Everything is going to be okay."

Everything is not okay. No one believes Thresh when he says he was the one who murdered the Nobles, not Nyvor. Ever better with words Nyvor cleverly twists the facts to ensure the blame remains solely on him, and it works. The King and Nobles want him eliminated anyway due to his proximity to the Queen, concerned he will discover the truth behind her illness.

So they sentence Nyvor to death by cliff face (thrown over a cliff into shallow rocky waters below), and as punishment for "defending a killer", Thresh is tied up and forced to watch Nyvor be knocked out and thrown over said cliff.

In one last desperate attempt to save his best friend and love interest, Thresh uses a knife Silvyr slipped him to escape his bindings and flings himself after the other. He uses his body to physically protect Nyvor's head, and upon impact, takes the brunt of the damage and gets knocked out.

Miraculously they both survive, but get separated in the current, and Thresh wakes up washed ashore on North Akkala Beach, alone, and lost. Thus begins his journey across Hyrule to find Nyvor. This goes on for a year, and everyone thinks they're dead. Meanwhile in Volica....

Year 19

Silvyr is pissed. Their community is starving, their two closest friends (Thresh and Nyvor) are presumed dead, and they’ve just discovered a nauseating secret after reviewing Nyvor’s final medical journal entry.

The Queen’s illness is not natural.

She’s being poisoned. Something Nyvor discovered right before his sentence, and his primary suspect was the King. For the King is the only one permitted to be with the Queen unattended. Nyvor laments over the fact he did not figure it out sooner, but there was no cause to think a poison was being used in such a disturbingly calculated manner. How could he have known?

Silvyr, joined by Necalli, prepare to usurp the King and Nobles. They are joined by nearly the entirety of the Domain’s remaining workers, who are willing to stand beside them.

Year 19 to 20

Thresh reunites with Nyvor, and the two finally confess their feelings for eachother. Silvyr learns of their survival and tracks them down, bringing them home in order to take down the King. It is a violent overthrow. Silvyr and Necalli kill the King, and banish all the Nobles and their supporters.

When royalty is usurped, the one to kill the reigning Monarch becomes the next Monarch. Silvyr declines the title, but becomes somewhat of a shadow leader in order to keep the Domain running, and Necalli becomes the Usurper King.

Year 20 & Onwards (The Present)

With the Nobles banished, and many others forced into retirement (or not so politely asked to leave) due to their previous connections to the Nobles, the Domain is now lacking in skilled expertise.

This results in Silvyr holding a mixture of titles, including that of Volica’s only Diplomat. They do whatever is needed of them to prevent the Domain from collapsing in on itself. Because of this they are occasionally referred to as Volica’s Shadow Monarch.

Presently, Silvyr is running ragged trying to secure food sources and new allies for the Domain. Volica has recovered slightly, but has a long way to go. The entire Domain is on mandatory rations, all food is distributed proportionally (with additional considerations as needed and children who get extra meals) to every zora within the Domain regardless of who they are.

Necalli hates being King, and is actively trying to dismantle the system so it is more egalitarian. In fact a majority of Volica is now wary of those born into royalty, including Silvyr, who finds interacting with most royals mentally exhausting.

Thresh and Nyvor court for six months and then get married.

The Queen passes away not long after the coup (in her sleep by natural causes). Up until her death she was visited every day by various zoras, telling her news of the Domain’s, albeit slow, recovery. It is believed she held on as a way to prevent the King from securing the last line of power, and once she knew her Domain was on a better path finally allowed herself to rest. Still respected and loved, the entire Domain attended her funeral to wish her good tides on the other side.

PXL'S Anatomy of Screenshots

So you want to take better screenshots? There are multiple factors to consider, and if you don't enjoy tweaking reshade settings for every image, my ultimate method may not be for you. That being said, there are tips and resources in this guide that are applicable to everyone and you can select to explore those that are useful to your specific situation.

Disclaimer: I am not claiming to be an expert, nor am I offering to provide troubleshooting on an individual basis. This is a general guide and if you are unfamiliar with any of the concepts, please use the mighty power of the internet to find tutorials. I promise everything that I have learned over the years has been published and documented a thousand times better than I ever could.

There are five factors to address:

Your computer's inherent capabilities

The game's limitations

The mods you're using

Reshade

Post Processing

Graphics Card Settings & Drivers:

Become familiar with your graphic options. If you don't have a dedicated graphics card (i.e. a desktop or gaming laptop, these features may be unavailable and you should skip.)

I have an AMD Radeon Pro card which is designed for workstation level systems. It's overkill for sims, but useful for 3D rendering and modelling work. I have changed the following settings for DirectX 9 applications:

anti-aliasing - enhance application settings

anisotropic filtering - enabled

anisotropic filtering level - 16x

texture filtering quality - high

surface format optimization - high

Consider overclocking your graphics card to unlock it's full potential. DO NOT pursue this venture unless you are ok with the risk of burning out your card prematurely. I use at present, overclocked Bootcamp Drivers from BootcampDrivers.com obviously, if you're not playing on an intel based mac through Bootcamp, this is irrelevant to you.

None of these settings are useful until you address the default games limitations, which leads nicely into the next factor.

Addressing The Sims 4's Graphic Limitations:

Everyone should be familiar at this point with lighting mods, 4k, textures, disabling ssao, etc. but, I'm still going to spell it out. None of this is new information and has been covered many a time by various players ad nauseum.

remove ugly blue toned lighting in the world by choosing a lighting mod from @softerhaze here

overhaul your graphics.cfg file (i use a custom blend with features specific to me), however @simp4sims has done a ridiculous amount of work in providing a simple to install file that can be found here - read through their tutorials!! they have provided an excellent oversight of exactly what this does and why it matters

improve the indoor lighting for your sims - previously i used @luumia's no blu, no glo - recently i switched to @northernsiberiawinds better in game lighting mod here, though i have tweaked some of the settings to suit my own personal preferences

i don't use the HQ mod, i don't find that it makes enough difference for the amount of effort it requires to convert CAS CC

It should go without saying, but tweaking your graphics config file is absolutely useless if you can't play TS4 at it's maximum in game graphic settings!

The Mods You're Using:

Now that you've put in all this work into getting the game ready to make use of quality mods where do you start? Well, the CC you install matters. Whatever your preference, whether it be maxis-match, alpha or somewhere in between, priority should be given to using items textured in 2k or 4k resolutions, and specific attention should be paid to using wall and flooring textures with bump maps, and or high quality resolutions (this is important later for reshade if you intend to learn about ray tracing).

I will separately post a guide to creators with crispy textures because that is it's own novel.

Reshade:

Phew. Still with me?

There are many many many reshade presets out there, most are alike, but none employ ray tracing, and that is because a) it needs to be manually adjusted for every screenshot, b) they are paid shaders, and c) this requires advanced knowledge of reshade and a decent enough graphics set up that won't overheat - games running native ray tracing recommend a minimum VRAM of 8GB (please note RAM and VRAM are not the same) - i therefore do not recommend pursuing this option if your system does not meet those minimum requirements.

Start here to understand what ray tracing for reshade is. In my opinion, the shaders are well worth the price of $5 for the amount of work that has gone into creating them by the talented Pascal Gilcher. That link is a comprehensive starting point into expanding your knowledge of reshade and it's capabilities.

I have always created my own reshade presets from scratch, and while the core colorization settings I utilize remain largely the same, using ray tracing and re-light means every screenshot needs to be manually adjusted (lights repositioned, bounce and AO factors adjusted, etc) before being captured. @pictureamoebae just published a very timely post discussing the re-light shader and you can read it here.

Post Processing

Reshade does 99.99% of the work that traditionally would be accomplished in a photo editing software like photoshop. Occasionally, I need to adjust exposure manually, add depth of field manually, or color correct. Beyond that I use it to scale images to fit the resolution and file size limits of various platforms. Conceptually this reduces the amount of uncontrolled loss encountered when platforms like tumblr auto compress files that are too large. In reality, tumblr still makes images crappy compared to how they appear in my file folder.

I hope that this gives you a starting point into expanding your methodologies. My process is continuously evolving and I find this aspect of the game most entertaining. For others who don't enjoy this process, it's probably not worth it!

What is a Big Bang?

A fandom Big Bang encourages writers to produce a new, long piece of fanfiction, with the challenge of a deadline. Each fic will be paired with an artist, who will work with the author to create a new illustration based off of the themes and vibes of that work. Each pair of participants in this event will produce: One (1) new Dragon Age Fanfic of at least 25,000 words, and one (1) art piece inspired by that fic. You can read more here and in our Event Guidebook.

What does artist participation in the Bang look like?

Artists will sign up by ranking their preference of fanfictions based on detailed idea pitches (example) presented by the writers. Artists commit to illustrating a new, polished artwork that is tangibly inspired by their assigned fanfiction written during the event. During the collaboration process, artists stay in regular contact with their writer and work collaboratively on their projects

What does "tangibly inspired by the fanfiction" mean?

▸ The artwork includes characterts as represented in the fanfiction, OR ▸ The artwork depicts an interpretation of a scene from the fanfiction, OR ▸ The artwork represents a high-level view of the fanfiction in entirety (ex: the kind of image that might be for a book cover)

👉Even if a fic is a modern AU Professor Solas fic, you do not have to depict a modern setting, modern clothes, or even Solas at all. Even if a fic features OCs, you are not required to depict those OCs. You can find a broader view of artistic representation, if you desire.

What does "polished artwork" mean?

▸ Must meet the standard set by the artist's general portfolio of previous artworks ▸ Your work should match the level of effort of a 25k+ word fic ▸ You are not required to be a professional or experienced artist, but you are asked to put in an effort that you would be proud to attach your name to in a public forum. ▸ Polished does not necessarily mean "highly rendered" or "full color"; if the artist primarily works in pen and ink, for example, then a black and white artwork is acceptable.

Objective

This document provides a detailed overview of the surrogate processing workflow employed at Paternity Compound 131. I. Arrival & Intake

Transport

Candidates are transported to the facility in climate-controlled vehicles, ensuring they arrive in stable physical condition. They are processed in batches of [REDACTED] at a time for efficiency.

Initial Assessment

Upon arrival, surrogates undergo physical and psychological evaluations to assess readiness for the program. This includes fertility screening and compatibility testing for high-multiparity potential.

Registration

Each surrogate is tattooed with a unique ID number for tracking and monitoring throughout their conscription period, imprinted just above their navel.

Compound ID: The facility they will be housed in for gestation.

Arrival ID: The order number in which they arrived at the facility.

Fetal Count: A letter to indicate the number of viable fetuses they carry:

II. Rest & Preparation

Induction & Crowd Control

"Hey Dad,

Things are getting weirder by the day. Yesterday, they gave me a shot that burned like hell and made me feel woozy. It must have knocked me out cause I woke up, and it was tomorrow morning. I don’t know what happened, but I was so sore. I just want to go home." - S131-279, Arrival Weight 170 lbs

Entry areas are designed to funnel a group of surrogates into a single file line. Short but sweeping corridors are employed so that each candidate is prevented from seeing what lies ahead and concentrates on the individual in front of it.

Hygiene Protocols

Surrogates are directed to communal hygiene zones where they undergo full-body cleansing, enemas, and sterilization procedures.

Hormonal Optimization

Subjects are administered hormonal injections and supplements to ensure optimal uterine receptivity and increase the likelihood of successful embryo implantation.

Tranquilization (Optional)

Depending on the subject’s stress levels, mild to full sedation may be administered to maintain compliance and calm.

Note: [REDACTED]% of surrogates require some form of sedative before insemination.

III. Insemination Process

Surrogates can be assigned one of three insemination methods, depending on operational efficiency, donor availability, and strategic objectives:

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF):

Procedure: Embryos fertilized in a laboratory are implanted directly into the surrogate's uterus.

Benefits: High precision, maximum control over embryo count, and genetic compatibility.

Usage: Preferred for surrogates assigned to carry high-volume fetuses or when multiple donors are involved.

Traditional Method (Sexual Intercourse):

Procedure: Selected donors engage in physical intercourse with surrogates under closely monitored conditions.

Benefits: Natural conception methods reduce laboratory overhead and offer efficient insemination for surrogates with high natural fertility markers.

Usage: Typically used donor compatibility is exceptionally high.

Fluids Infusion (Turkey Baster Method):

Procedure: Donor samples are introduced directly into the surrogate's reproductive tract using a sterile infusion device.

Benefits: Combines simplicity with minimal intervention—a cost and time-effective alternative to IVF and traditional methods.

Usage: Often employed in high-volume batches where rapid insemination is required or transportation to the nearest compound is infeasible.

Post-Procedure Monitoring: Surrogates remain in observation units for [REDACTED] hours to confirm successful implantation and address any immediate complications.

IV. Monitoring & Maintenance

Ward Assignment

"Dad,

I don’t think I can do this anymore. My belly is enormous—I can barely move, and I’m out of breath all the time. They keep saying I’m ‘thriving,’ but how can they call this thriving? Surrogates are transferred to gestational wards, where they will reside for their pregnancies. These wards have medical monitoring stations, communal feeding areas, and resting zones.

Nutrition Protocols

Diets are adjusted to high-calorie "one-size-fits-all" solutions, such as nutrient-dense puddings designed to promote fetal growth while maintaining surrogate docility. Hormonal treatments are incorporated into meals to reduce the need for frequent medical interventions.

Weekly Checkups

Surrogates undergo routine ultrasound exams, weight measurements, and health assessments to ensure all embryos develop within target parameters.

Behavioral Observations

Any signs of distress or resistance are addressed promptly through psychological support or, if necessary, isolation protocols.

V. Delivery Process

"This will probably be my last letter. I don’t think I’ll make it much longer. My body’s breaking under the weight—literally. I'm too big, no one was ever meant to be this big. Pre-Labor Preparation

As surrogates approach full term (29-35 days), they are moved to birthing wings equipped with specialized delivery equipment and staff trained for high-multiparity births. Diets are radically adjusted to promote greater weight gain.

Labor Management & Delivery

Surrogates are monitored continuously, and medical staff is on hand to manage complications. Multiple babies are delivered in succession. This process may last several hours or more, depending on the number of fetuses.

Post-Delivery Processing:

Fetuses are immediately evaluated for health and viability.

Surrogates are provided palliative care as necessary.

VI. Post-Delivery Workflow

"Surrogate S131-279-P demonstrated remarkable endurance and successfully delivered 16 fetuses, average weight 14 lbs, in 30-45 minute intervals, after a 34-hour labor. The surrogate's abdomen showed extreme distension, with clear evidence of significant internal [REDACTED].
