Chook and Gremlin
Kewis x Child!Reader (Chook) x Gremlin
Summary: Gremlin's your future best friend
Tumblr media
Kristie watches warily as Katie and Caitlin's daughter goes stomping around her living room.
It's the first time they've babysat Katie and Caitlin's little Gremlin before and, despite Sam insisting you'd get along with the little toddler, Kristie still has her doubts.
You seem a little wary too, shuffling on your feet and clutching a dinosaur in your hand as you watch as Gremlin explores her new surroundings.
"You don't have to play just yet," Kristie says, hand carding through your hair gently as you hide behind her leg," We'll go at your own pace, chook."
You nod, a slight up and down motion of your head that Kristie barely feels against her hand.
"Mommy," You whisper," Does she like dinos?"
"I'm not sure. Do you want to go and ask?"
"I...I have another dino mask. We could be dinos together?"
"It's sweet of you to share your toys."
"I go get them?"
"Of course."
You disappear into your bedroom and Kristie sits at the kitchen table supervising Gremlin's exploring.
You don't really have any friends outside of those at school and you certainly aren't friends with someone so many years younger than yourself.
But there's a baby coming, another little presence that you have no idea about. A baby is coming and Kristie can't help but worry that she's made a terrible decision and already ruined your life.
She and Sam had floated the idea, of course, about how you would feel having a little sibling. You'd been dismissive and uncaring with only a quick question of 'do I have to share all of my toys?'.
You'd given no indication of your feelings on the matter. No indication if you had suspicions on why you'd even been asked.
Kristie had never seen you interact with kids younger than you before and yet, here is one now.
A little toddler with a face like thunder and a little wrinkled nose as she attempts to climb the cat tree to pet Helen.
Kristie goes to stand but Sam's quicker, crossing the room and plucking Gremlin away from harm by the back of her overalls.
"Cats can scratch," She warns," If you pet them wrong."
Gremlin's little face scrunches up. "I know! Have two cats at home! Coopurr an' Spicy!"
"Mommy!" Kristie's attention shifts from Sam and Gremlin to your voice and she finally heaves herself up to walk the path to your bedroom.
"My chook? What's wrong?"
"Can't-Can't find my other dino mask! Jus-Just the dragon one!"
You look distraught, your velociraptor mask in one hand and your dragon mask in the other.
"That's alri-"
"No! What if she doesn't like dragons?"
"I'm sure she'll love dragons." Kristie sits on the floor, gently reaching for your waist and drawing you forward until you're standing in front of her. "What's wrong? Huh? What's got you so worried?"
Your bottom lip wobbles dangerously and Kristie can see your eyes get all watery like you're about to cry.
"What...What if she thinks I'm broken?"
"Broken? Why would she think you're broken?"
You look down, silent for a moment as you shuffle your feet. "Because I'm sick," You whisper," And sometimes I'm not really here..."
"Oh, chookie...You're not broken. I promise. You're not broken at all. You're just a little different to other kids and that's okay. I promise that Gremlin won't think you're broken at all and I'm sure she'd love being a dragon instead of a dino."
You sniffle. "Yeah?"
"Yeah. Do you want a cuddle before we go back out there?"
"Yes, please."
When you finally end up back in the living room, Sam is dangling Gremlin by the back of her overalls while the toddler giggles hysterically.
"You've got this," Kristie whispers to you," You and Gremlin are going to be great friends. I know it."
You shuffle forward slowly, tugging on Sam's leg so she knows to let your new friend down.
"Here," You say, handing over the mask," It's a dragon. They breath fire."
"Dragon?" Gremlin asks, head cocking to the side.
You nod. "Dragon. They're like dinosaurs but with big wings and fire."
Gremlin grins. "I like dragons. Dragons eat people!"
She turns to look at Sam as she pulls the mask on.
Her eyes dart to your velociraptor mask. "Dinosaurs eat people too?"
You nod. "They can." You slip on your mask.
"Good," She says," Now, we eat auntie Sam!"

The Nation of War
Pairings: Various Genshin Men x Isekai'd!Reader
Summary: Upon stepping foot in the Nation of War, Aether and Paimon offers to give you and the men a tour around the beautiful nation. However, during the exploration/tour of the nation, you all meet Aether and Paimon's friends from the Pyro Nation. One friend in particular captures your attention— and it is not human. Also, are you allowed to have... pets (?) at the abode?
Note: Since the little Tepetlisaur Whelp we meet in Genshin doesn't have a specific given name, I decided to name the Saurian "Dakarai" for this fic and any future fics he makes an appearance in. I named my Saurian companion because it's fitting, and I don't have the heart to change it to something else. If you're not a fan of the name I picked for this fic (and future fics if he makes an appearance), then feel free to change it! :> Anyway! I don't post anywhere else but on Tumblr (Genshinluvr), Ko-Fi (also Genshinluvr/Aaliah_exo), and AO3 (Aaliah_exo).
Warnings: None that I know of 🤔 Natlan characters are probably out of character. Zhongli and Neuvillette being jealous again (hehehe)
Word Count: 5.4k
“Remember to stick close to us so you won’t get lost. We’ve been to Natlan many times and would hate for you to get lost.” Paimon says, looping her arms around yours as you, Paimon, Aether, and the others enter the Nation of War.
Is Paimon referring to the time when you got lost in Fontaine and Wriothesley and Neuvillette were the ones who found you? If so, she didn’t need to call you out like that. Sometimes, your sense of direction is great! Other times… not so much, but not once has it gotten you killed!
You look at your surroundings in awe. Natlan is a beautiful nation— wait, is that a dinosaur? You snap your neck to look at the others, pointing at the tall creature with eyes the size of saucers. Aether chuckles and pats your head. “I had the same reaction when I first saw the long-necked rhino,” Aether says.
“Is there a reason why you brought us to Natlan? Not that I’m complaining, I’m rather curious.” Diluc says, crossing his arms over his chest as he takes a step closer to you in case a Fatui Agent decides to attack.
You rub the back of your neck before raising your hand. “It’s my idea to go to Natlan, actually.” After hearing countless stories about Natlan from Aether and Paimon, it makes you want to visit the nation. A nation that has roaming dragons— also known as Saurians, how can you not want to visit?
“What are we going to do in Natlan aside from exploring?” Gorou mutters, looking at his surroundings curiously, his ears twitching at the littlest unfamiliar sounds around him.
Aether and Paimon shrug while you continue to look at the wild Saurians with excitement. There are so many of them roaming around! And some of them have human companions by their sides! From a distance, a small roar pulls you out of your thoughts. You turn to see a small Rex Lapis-looking creature charging at your group at full speed.
Itto stretches his arm out in front of everyone, glaring at the approaching creature. “Don’t worry, everyone! I’ll protect us all from this tiny menace!” Itto announces.
In the blink of an eye, the creature burrows into the ground, disappearing from sight. Itto blinks and lets his arm fall at his side, confused about where the little creature has disappeared off to. The small creature hops from the ground, roaring almost cutely. It waddles towards Aether and Paimon, bouncing with excitement.
You cover your mouth, suppressing a squeal. “Who is this cutie?!” You coo.
Paimon props her hands on her hips and floats beside the adorable creature. “[Y/N], everyone else, meet Dakarai! He is our,” she gestures to her and Aether, “traveling companion! He’s a Tepetlisaur Whelp.”
Dakarai, the Tepetlisaur Whelp, looks at you curiously, tilting his head to the side. You quietly squeal, taking a few steps toward the Saurian and holding your hand out for him to sniff. Is that what you’re supposed to do when introducing yourself to a creature? Dakarai leans toward your hand, sniffing your hand while gazing at you curiously.
“You’re so cute, Dakarai,” you whisper, continuing to examine the adorable Tepetlisaur Whelp. “Can I bring you home with me?” You pet the adorable Saurian as he excitedly roars.
Your heart feels like it can burst at any second because of how cute Dakarai is. He’s half your size, so you don’t think you can sneak him back to the abode if you did try to bring him back. Are you even allowed to take Saurians out of Natlan? It’s not a crime, is it?
Thoma sighs, crossing his arms over his chest while shaking his head, pouting. “I can’t believe that I’m jealous of a Saurian,” Thoma mutters, chuckling to himself.
Ayato chuckles, watching you and Dakarai interact with each other. The Tepetlisaur Whelp examines you from head to toe curiously, shuffling from side to side to get a 360 view of you. You did the same, cooing over the littlest thing Dakarai does. You’re almost in tears over how cute the Tepetlisaur Welp is, holding back the urge to bring him into a crushing hug and take him back to the abode.
Ayato leans towards Thoma, not taking his eyes off you and Dakarai, whispering, “We should keep an eye on [Y/N] in case they try to Saurian-nap Dakarai.”
Thoma hums, nodding in agreement with the Kamisato Heir. Dakarai turns around, wiggling his tail, when you notice the orange-yellow handkerchief wrapped around it. Paimon and Aether tell you the backstory of the said handkerchief.
After explaining the backstory, the journey to the Stadium of the Sacred Flame continues. Of course, Dakarai tags along. Instead of being by Aether and Paimon’s side, Dakarai sticks by you while you continue to fight the urge to snatch him up.
Kaeya chuckles, shaking his head while he watches you pet the top of Dakarai’s head. “It looks like another dragon has captured [Y/N]’s heart,” Kaeya comments, glancing at Zhongli and Neuvillette from the corner of his eyes (eye?) with a teasing smile.
Zhongli and Neuvillette huff, looking away from Kaeya’s teasing gaze. Dakarai is adorable, yes, but is he powerful enough to protect you from harm's way? Probably, but Zhongli and Neuvillette digress! There’s a dark aura surrounding both Zhongli and Neuvillette as they watch you fawn over Dakarai. You stop in your tracks and snuggle the Tepetlisaur Whelp after getting approval from Dakarai. Dakarai is more than happy to be on the receiving end of your affection, wrapping his arms around your waist while you hug him tightly.
Thunder cracks in the distance as dark, ominous clouds roll in, replacing the once-sunny sky. Everyone freezes while Dakarai tilts his head, trying to process where the sound is coming from.
You slowly release the Tepetlisaur Whelp, looking at your beloved boyfriends worriedly. “I didn’t know it was going to rain today,” you say, propping your hands on your hips as you listen to thunder clapping in the distance.
Rain has yet to pour, thank the Archons, but you and everyone else still have a long way to go. You turn to Neuvillette, who has a stoic look on his face. You two make eye contact, and he quickly diverts his attention elsewhere. You frown and look at Zhongli, who shakes his head with disapproval before walking towards you.
Zhongli sighs, wrapping his arms around your shoulders. “No need to fret, dearest. I came prepared for situations like this,” Zhongli says, pulling out an umbrella.
Dakarai roars softly, staring at the umbrella curiously. Zhongli holds the umbrella towards Dakarai’s direction, watching the Tepetlisaur Whelp sniff and analyze the contraption. After sniffing and analyzing the contraption, Dakarai takes a step back and looks up at Zhongli. Zhongli smiles and presses his hand on Dakarai’s head, gently petting the creature. You squeal, pulling a Kamera out of your satchel, and quickly snap a photo of Zhongli and Dakarai together. Zhongli and Dakarai freeze when the light flashes, blinking at you.
Childe clears his throat, wraps his arms around your waist, and rests his chin on your shoulders. “Snookums~! I understand you love taking pictures of things that make you smile, but I think we should continue our journey to the Stadium of the Sacred Flame, or else we’ll get rained on,” Childe says, gesturing to the even darker sky.
Scaramouche rolls his eyes, muttering, “For once, I agree with this idiot.”
Childe ignores Scaramouche’s comment and proceeds to drag you towards the Stadium of the Sacred Flame. Everyone follows closely behind, and of course, Dakarai is by your side. Occasionally, you will bring your Kamera out to snap pictures of nearby Saurians from a safe distance. As much as you want to run up to one and snatch one up for yourself, seeing the fully grown Tepetlisaurs scares you, and you don’t want to be tossed around in front of your beloveds and the Tepetlisaur Whelps.
“Aether! Paimon! Is that you!?” A girl hollers from a distance.
Aether stops in his tracks and turns to see two girls and a boy barrelling toward him and your group. The two girls stop in front of Aether and Paimon, tackling them into a hug. Aether and Paimon greet the two girls while you and the other men awkwardly stand there.
An obnoxious voice interrupts the sweet reunion, “Aw, how sweet! A reunion between friends from afar! Barf!” You turn to see a small floating creature— what is he exactly?— approaching your group with a bluish-black-haired male following behind.
The man rolls his eyes, giving your group an almost sympathetic look. “Ignore Ajaw. This is how he usually is,” the man says, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Oh? I’m surprised you have this many friends, Aether. Is it hard to tolerate someone as annoying as him?” Ajaw asks, snickering.
Everyone stares at Ajaw, unsure of what to say. You, on the other hand, look at Ajaw from head to toe. For someone as small as him, he sure is bold. You’re not sure how the man beside the small creature tolerates that much annoyance. Noticing your stare, Ajaw flies towards you, floating really close to your face.
“Hey, you! You look interesting out of the bunch— or should I say, you look boring compared to the rest of the group! Ha! What makes you so special, huh?” Ajaw asks, flying around you like an annoying fly. “Everyone has a vision, minus yourself! Heh, I bet you’re not—”
“Alright, that’s enough, Ajaw,” the bluish-black-haired man interrupts the creature.
The creature— Ajaw, gapes at the man before sputtering incoherent nonsense, thrashing his tiny arms around. Without a single word, the man brushes Ajaw away, sending him into the air before disappearing. Everyone shields their eyes, searching for the flying menace, only to no avail.
The man sighs, shaking his head. “I apologize for Ajaw’s behavior. I would say that he wouldn’t do it next time, but…” he trails off, rolling his eyes.
Paimon clears her throat, nervously laughing. “Let me introduce you all to each other! This can take some time.”
Both Aether and Paimon take turns introducing each person to their friends from Natlan. Ajaw definitely doesn’t need an introduction, and thankfully, he’s not present throughout the entire introduction. The introduction itself doesn’t take as long as you thought it would. However, after the introduction, Ajaw did return, much to your dismay.
“We can show you around Natlan if you’d like! Although I’m not sure where you guys are headed to…” Mualani trails off, stroking her chin.
Venti shrugs his shoulders. “We’re okay with going anywhere! We initially plan on going straight to the Stadium of the Sacred Flame! But we’re open to going anywhere since Windblume has been taking a lot of pictures!” Venti says, throwing his arm over your shoulders.
Kachina’s eyes light up, excitedly running up to you. “Oooh! What did you take pictures of? Can I see?” Kachina enthusiastically asks, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
You smile and happily show the collection of images you took while exploring the Pyro Nation. Most of the pictures are of Saurians— Tepetlisaur Whelps, to be more specific. They’re just so cute that you couldn’t resist taking photos of them from a safe distance. One photo that stands out from the rest (your favorite photo) is a selfie of you and Dakarai.
Kinich looks up only to see you attempting to carry the Tepetlisaur Whelp. Dakarai squirms in your arms, looking around quizzically. You place Dakarai on the ground, panting. Archons, it’s like holding a mini boulder.
Mualani giggles and covers her mouth. “It looks like you’re incredibly fond of Tepetlisaurs! If you’d like, I can show you a spot where many of them are usually gathered,” Mualani offers, nudging you lightly with her elbow. “The skies have cleared up, so they should be around!”
Your eyes light up. “Ooh! Can you?” You squeal.
Mualani and Kachina giggle, grabbing hold of your wrist before dragging you in the opposite direction with the others watching. Xiao looks over at Zhongli and Neuvillette from the corner of his eyes; the two men look displeased. The once-gray skies have cleared up, but it looks like the rain clouds will be showing up in a moment.
The group follows you, Mualani, and Kachina to where the Tepetlisaur site is located. Once everyone arrives at the site, there’s a lot of Tepetlisaur and Tepetlisaur Whelps roaming the area, minding their business and not knowing what’s to come.
Mualani turns to you. “You can admire them from a distance! I don’t recommend getting close to them because they can and will attack you if you come any closer,” Mualani instructs.
You nod, pull your Kamera out, and start taking pictures of the Tepetlisaur and their Whelps. Neuvillette watches you take pictures of the Saurians, crossing his arms over his chest with a sigh. The light gray skies gradually become darker as time goes by. Wriothesley clears his throat, patting the Iudex’s shoulders.
“It’s alright, Monsieur Neuvillette. I’m sure [Y/N] doesn’t love the Tepetlisaurs as much as they love you,” Wriothesley reassures the Chief Justice of Fontaine.
Neuvillette ignores Wriothesley’s comment and continues to watch you fawn over the Saurians. Neuvillette glances at Zhongli, who seems content compared to himself. Zhongli looks at the sky, then at Neuvillette. The two of them stare at each other, communicating through body language.
You squat on the ground, taking various images of the Tepetlisaurs. While you’re distracted with capturing images of the adorable Saurians, you fail to notice one Tepetlisaur Whelp approach you from behind. The small creature tilts its head to the side, looking at you from head to toe with curiosity.
The Tepetlisaur Whelp lets out a small roar, startling you. You turn to see the Tepetlisaur Whelp gaze at you, waddling from side to side to get a better look at you. You’re not sure if you should be afraid or coo at the Whelp. The small roar of the Tepetlisaur Whelp catches the attention of other nearby Whelps. They slowly migrate towards you, making you a little anxious. It’s not that you’re afraid of them potentially attacking you, but you’re more worried about the adult Tepetlisaurs charging at you for being in the same vicinity as their babies.
Tighnari’s ears perk up with alertness, looking at the others worriedly. “Oh, dear. We need to get them out of there, or else they’ll become an easy target for the adult Tepetlisaurs,” Tighnari says.
“I think it’s a bit too late for that,” Cyno mutters, gesturing towards your direction.
Everyone’s heads snap in your direction only to see a hoard of Tepetlisaur Whelps surrounding you. Thankfully, none of the Whelps are attacking you or charging at you. They stare at you curiously, some roaring cutely and others shuffling around you. Dakarai waddles toward you, only for you to realize that Dakarai is a bit bigger than the other Whelps.
You squat, holding your hand out. The Tepetlisaur Whelps sniff your hand, blinking at you. One Tepetlisaur Whelp, in particular, nudges its head against your leg. You stare at the Saurian, wondering if it's trying to attack you. It didn’t seem hostile— or, at least to you, it seems harmless.
You randomly pick up one Tepetlisaur Whelp, holding it out in front of you. You and the Whelp stare at each other without saying a word. The Tepetlisaur Whelp blinks at you, tilting its head to the side curiously. You softly squeal, refraining from hugging the adorable Saurian. The Tepetlisaur Whelp tilts its head back and lets out a soft roar.
You turn to look at the others, nearly dropping the Saurian in your hands. Everyone has their weapons drawn, and you realize you have a shield around you— thanks to Zhongli. You place the Tepetlisaur Whelp back on the ground, unsure of what to do next. Do you continue taking pictures of the Tepetlisaur Whelps, or do you run for your life in case the adult Tepetlisaur charges toward you?
Kaveh clears his throat, cupping his hand around his mouth, shouting, “[Y/N], darling, slowly make your way towards us. Try not to draw attention to yourself!”
“Since you decided to become a megaphone, I highly doubt the Tepetlisaurs will be paying attention to [Y/N] after that,” Al Haitham comments, shaking his head.
You slowly walk toward your beloveds and new friends without looking back to see if the Whelps are watching you. Dear Archons above, you sure hope the adult Tepetlisaurs didn’t notice the swarm of Whelps around you. Who knows what will happen if the Whelp’s parents notice their babies being so close to a human?
Once you stand in front of your beloveds, Paimon, and new friends, you notice they’re not looking at you anymore. In fact, they’re looking behind you and at the ground. The shield around you disappears, and you feel something nudge at your legs. Just as you’re about to look down, Mualani launches at you.
“I don’t recommend looking down! While the Saurian is nudging at your legs, it’s completely harmless! However, our time is up! I want to show you another area that has two other types of Saurians! Have you ever heard of Koholasaurs and Yumkasaurs?” Mualani asks, looping her arms around yours as she quickly pulls you in the opposite direction.
You shake your head, allowing Mualani and Kachina to pull you wherever they desire. They both lead you to the top of the mountain, showing you the beautiful landscapes Natlan has to offer. While being able to view almost the entirety of Natlan is a wonderful opportunity, you can’t help but feel nauseous after seeing how high up you all are.
This new area is different from where you were prior. There’s a sizeable body of water where the Koholasaurs and Yumkasaurs are roaming around, living in harmony. There are a couple of Whelps scattered in some areas of the Teticpac Peak, though you hardly see any of the Koholasaur Whelps. The Koholasaurs remind you of sharks but with arms and legs and are oddly muscular.
“Are you sure it’s safe to be in this area?” Baizhu asks, pulling out his first aid kit just in case.
Kachina giggles and nods. “Of course it is, Doctor Baizhu! As long as we keep our distance and don’t come too close to the Whelps, we should be safe here!”
“That doesn’t sound as reassuring as you want to make it,” Heizou laughs nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.
Capitano sighs, shaking his head. “I’ll keep watch of [Y/N] as they take pictures of the landscape and creatures.” Capitano doesn’t leave room for protests as you nod, grabbing hold of Capitano’s hands and pulling him to an area where you can take pictures of the Saurians without disturbing them. Capitano stands close to you, scanning the surrounding area.
Kinich eyes Capitano before turning to look at everyone, who seems to also be on edge, while the other three look pretty content with the Harbinger being so close to you. Kinich sighs, eyeing the Harbinger from head to toe.
“You don’t have to worry over anything, boy. With Capitano around, [Y/N] is safe.” Pierro says gruffly.
Kinich analyzes each man in the group— every man has their eyes glued on you and nothing else. Of course, they will check the surroundings to make sure nothing is creeping up on you and Capitano (mainly you), but Kinich can’t put his fingers on it. Kinich clears his throat to grab the group’s attention but to no avail. These men are not taking their eyes off you at all, and seeing how they immediately drew their weapons when the Tepetlisaur Whelps surrounded you says so much without being blatantly obvious.
“What is [Y/N] to all of you?” Kinich asks, finally grabbing everyone’s attention.
Kazuha chuckles, crossing his arms over his chest. “[Y/N] is someone very precious to us all. We love and cherish them and will protect them at all costs,” says Kazuha, the apples of his cheeks turning bright pink.
Kinich raises his eyebrows at Kazuha’s answer. Kinich understands what Kazuha is implying, but he doesn’t want to make an assumption out of an innocent answer. But he is right, though, right?
Noticing the strange look on Kinich’s face, Dainsleif sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. “[Y/N] is our partner,” Dainsleif says, almost rolling his eyes.
Ajaw’s jaws drop at Dainsleif’s response, eyes nearly bugging out of his head. It’s almost comical to everyone. Mualani and Kachina glance at each other, shrugging their shoulders. Hey, if it works, it works. Who are they to judge?
Kinich strokes his chin. “How does that work? Aren’t there issues with sharing a partner?” Kinich mutters, raising his eyebrows at the men before him.
Albedo shakes his head in response to Kinich’s question. “We learn to make it work between us all. There are many things to learn and get used to, but it works. We all share something in common aside from our love for [Y/N],” Albedo explains, crossing his arms over his chest.
“What’s so appealing about someone so… bland? There’s nothing special about them at all!” Ajaw snarks.
Pantalone chuckles, smiling at Ajaw. If people look closely, there’s a dark aura surrounding Pantalone as he tries to remain calm and polite. How much longer can he keep up his facade with a little shithead like Ajaw around? The little floating menace to society constantly insulting you just for existing has been getting on everyone’s nerves since the meeting.
“I would keep my comments to myself if I were you, Ajaw. You disrespecting someone important to us will get you nowhere,” Pantalone says, clenching his jaws.
Ajaw bursts out laughing, relishing the fact that he manages to get on every person’s nerves. All he has to do is insult you and question these men’s choices. Kinich sighs and apologizes to the men for Ajaw’s behavior before temporarily banishing Ajaw.
“If you cannot keep your companion’s mouth shut, I think it’s best for you to keep your distance from [Y/N]. We wouldn’t want someone like Ajaw near them,” Xiao states, crossing his arms over his chest while staring at Kinich with disapproval.
The tension is cut by the sound of you gasping. Everyone’s heads snap in your direction to see you and Capitano surrounded by Koholasaur and Yumkasaur Whelps. You look at the others with wide eyes; they can’t tell whether it’s from fear or excitement. You mouth something to them, but they can’t decipher what you’re trying to communicate.
“Can someone tell me if I’m hallucinating? Those creatures behind [Y/N] are Tepetlisaur Whelps, correct?” Lyney asks, turning to the men.
Dottore turns to Mualani and Kachina, raising his eyebrows at the two girls. “I thought Tepetlisaurs aren’t in this particular area,” He says, crossing his arms over his chest.
You and Capitano are surrounded by Tepetlisaur, Koholasaur, and Yumakasaur Whelps— though the Tepetlisaur Whelps outnumbers the other Saurians. The Tepetlisaur Whelps roars around you, waddling and gazing at you curiously. So far, none of them have yet to attack you and Capitano. If they were to try to attack, you know Capitano would not spare any of the Whelps, no matter how cute they are.
Paimon strokes her chin, scrutinizing the Tepetlisaur Whelps. “That’s odd. If this area doesn’t have Tepetlisaurs around, then how did these little guys end up on the Teticpac Peak?” Paimon exclaims, propping her hands on her hips as she bobs up and down in the air.
Capitano looks down at you after feeling you lightly poke his arm. “Yes, what is it, [Y/N]?”
You clear your throat. “You’re not going to attack the Whelps, are you? They’re little babies, and I don’t think they can cause that much bodily harm, right?”
Capitano sighs. “I will not harm them, [Y/N]. However, if they inflict harm on you, I have no other choice but to protect and defend you from any harm heading your way,” Capitano replies.
While you want to protest against hurting the Whelps, you can’t help but feel giddy over the fact that Capitano is devoted to protecting you. Heat rushes to your cheeks as you look away from Capitano, feeling his eyes burn holes into the back of your head. Dakarai roars softly, tugging on your pants while looking up at you with curiosity. Now that you have Dakarai beside you, you realize that he’s a little bit bigger than the other Tepetlisaur Whelps.
Dakarai roars again, almost like he’s asking you if you’re okay. You smile and squat in front of him, gently petting his head. Dakarai nuzzles into your hands, closing his eyes with contentment.
“I’m alright, Dakarai. There’s no need to worry about me, little fella.” You reassure the Tepetlisaur Whelp.
Dakarai roars softly, flapping his arms around. The other Saurian Whelps around you watch the interaction between you and Dakarai curiously. To them, it’s strange to see a species like them interact with a human— one they are not companions with— so effortlessly. A human such as yourself interacting with an overgrown Tepetlisaur Whelp is foreign to them. Usually, a human with no vision or Saurian companions steer clear.
A much smaller Tepetlisaur Whelp waddles up to you and stands beside Dakarai, softly roaring to get your attention. The Whelp tilts its head at you, blinking. You and Dakarai trade looks with each other before you slowly reach forward to pet the Tepetlisaur Whelp. The Saurian closes its eyes and leans into your touch. You lightly scratch behind the ears, watching it start kicking its feet— almost like you found the perfect spot to itch. You hold back a squeal, watching the feet kick become faster before it tips over and stumbles into your arms.
Zhongli hums, stroking his chin. “The Tepetlisaur Whelps must have followed us to the Teticpac Peak by burrowing under the ground the entire way here from the previous location,” Zhongli murmurs, watching you interact with the Whelps that surround you and Capitano.
Kachina giggles, clapping her hands. “That’s correct, Mister Zhongli! And given by the body language and expressions of the Whelps, they seem to really like [Y/N]!” Kachina squeals, grinning from ear to ear.
The Whelps that surrounds you and Capitano ignores the towering figure of the Harbinger. Their focus is on you, staring at you expectantly. You make sure to give each Saurian Whelps attention, not wanting any of them to feel left out. The Yumkasaur Whelp purrs as you pet its head, rubbing its body against your arms, reminding you of kittens. Kittens do that, and so do dogs. As for Yumkasaur Whelps, they remind you of kittens with their mannerisms. They hiss when they see something unfamiliar or try to intimidate something they deem a threat to their safety.
While most are hesitant to be around you (who can blame them?), their worries are quelled when you respect their space after one of them hissed at you. Capitano isn’t too pleased that you’re friendly with the Whelps, but hey, as long as they don’t hurt you, he will tolerate the (admittedly) cute interaction between you and the Whelps.
“Do you guys have any pets by any chance?” Mualani asks, not taking her eyes off you.
Aether shakes his head. “We don’t, but we do have a Paimon,” Aether replies, gesturing to the floating girl beside him.
Paimon gasps and exclaims, “Hey!” She stomps her feet in midair, glaring at her blond companion, “Paimon is not a pet!”
“That’s why he said ‘a Paimon,’” Venti interjects, chuckling at the fuming girl.
Rapid footsteps approach the group, grabbing their attention. You stand before them with one Tepetlisaur Whelp dangling from one arm and a Yumkasaur Whelp on the other, smiling at them eagerly. The Koholasaur Whelp is draping around your neck, resting on your shoulders while gazing at familiar faces with curiosity.
You hold up the Whelps, gazing at your beloveds with sparkles in your eyes. “Can we keep them?”
“Absolutely not,” Neuvillette immediately shoots down your question. Neuvillette stares down at the Whelps in your arms (and around your shoulders), a dark aura surrounding him.
The once blue skies in the Teticpac Peak gradually turn into an ominous dark gray, thunder cracking in the distance. Mualani, Kachina, and Kinich rub the back of their necks as they watch the scene in silence. You pout and hold them close to your face, giving Neuvillette and the other men puppy dog eyes.
Wriothesley chuckles, rubbing your head affectionately. “I don’t know about that, dollface. Do we have the space for Saurians to roam in the abode?” Wriothesley asks, propping his hands on his hips and raising his eyebrows at you.
“But they’re so cute!! Look at their little faces!” You coo, snuggling up against the Saurian Whelps. “How can you say no to them?” You pout.
Childe hums, stroking his chin. While the Saurian Whelps are adorable, letting them reside in the abode isn’t the best idea. It’s not like Childe doesn’t want to deal with dragons— he already has to deal with Zhongli and Neuvillette. What’s the difference?— he doesn’t want those little scaled creatures to steal your attention away from him!
“They are adorable, but…” Childe trails off, reaching forward to pet your head. “If we let them live with us, the other two dragons will become jealous and territorial.” Childe gestures to both Zhongli and Neuvillette behind him.
“If Zhongli represents Tepetlisaurs and Neuvillette represents Koholasaurs, then who represents the Yumkasaurs?” Lyney asks, scanning the crowd of men around him while stroking his chin and tapping his right foot on the ground.
Cyno points at Tighnari. “I believe Tighnari is the perfect representation of Yumkasaurs if you ask me.”
Tighnari sighs, rubbing the bridge of his nose. Tighnari’s not one to play into this shenanigan, but he can see it. Mualani clears her throat, gesturing to Kinich without making it obvious (she failed; Kinich notices her gestures almost immediately). Kinich rolls his eyes, shaking his head. Kinich’s not sure if he wants to get involved after seeing how overprotective these men can become when it comes to you. Besides, he doesn’t see you in the same light as the other.
“A dragon would never explode, but a dino might…” Cyno mutters, pressing his lips into a thin line to suppress the shit-eating grin slowly appearing on his face.
Tighnari groans, shaking his head. “Cyno, please, let’s not joke about this right now,” Tighnari pleads.
You look at Zhongli and Neuvillette, giving them puppy dog eyes as you continue to get the Whelps cling to you. Zhongli and Neuvillette scrutinize the creatures surrounding you, their arms crossing over their chests— their chests puffing out, almost to assert dominance over the Saurians.
“Dearest, as much as I hate to decline your requests, I believe it is not a good idea to take Saurians outside of Natlan,” Zhongli says, hesitantly reaching forward to pet the Tepetlisaur Whelp in your arms.
Your eyes water for a dramatic effect, forcing your bottom lips to quiver. “But Zhongli, look how cute they are! They even followed us here!” You’re not hurt or offended over the fact that you’re not allowed to bring Saurians back to the abode. You’re only sad because the Whelps are incredibly adorable, and you can’t bring them back because they’re wild creatures, and you can’t have them as a companion.
Neuvillette huffs, looking away. “You have us. Why would you need another draconic companion?” Neuvillette mutters.
Dakarai roars, almost agreeing with Neuvillette. You place the Whelps on the ground, making sure to pet Dakarai’s head before turning to Neuvillette and Zhongli— both visibly pouting. You grab both their hands and gently squeeze their hands, giving them a reassuring smile.
“I’ve never seen them this pouty before,” Thoma mutters to Xiao.
Xiao rolls his eyes, shaking his head. “You should see those three alone. It’s almost pathetic.”
Neuvillette and Zhongli glare at Xiao and Thoma, shutting the two up. Zhongli and Neuvillette proceed to drag you away, with Dakarai and the rest of the men trailing after you three. So much for getting a tour around the Nation of War. Maybe next time, the tour won’t be interrupted by Saurian Whelps crowning you as their leader (and you trying to bribe the men to let you bring Saurians to the abode).
Note: Before I typed this fanfic out, I was planning on having the reader be the creator, but I ended up changing my mind. For those who have been asking me in the inbox about Kinich being part of the harem, here is your somewhat answer! He made an appearance! However, I'm not too sure if I'll add him to the harem. As long as he's an adult, then yes, there's a chance he will be added to the harem. The only issue is my portrayal of Ajaw because I don't have Kinich, so there's a possibility of him and Ajaw being out of character. Anywho! To all my new and returning readers, keep in mind that I ONLY post on my Tumblr (Genshinluvr), Ko-Fi (Genshinluvr/Aaliah_exo), and my AO3 (Aaliah_exo)! Nowhere else except Tumblr and AO3!
I'm doing taglists again! If you don't want to be on the taglist, please let me know so I can remove you from the list :) Taglist: @chirikoheina, @yoru-trash, @kaoyamamegami, @deartoru, @luminarymoonlight, @toobytub, @ins4nebish, @exhaustedcommunist, @jadedist, @rubyninja1, @thelost-in-time, @ventisweetheart, @hispasian-otaku, @juuuuuj101010, @samarill, @lunarapple, @emilymikado, @mabie, @vinnie-w, @n8mareee, @heyimkay, @eliciana, @blesstosuisen, @goldeneclipsedragon, @jjvr4yxc, @vox34, @skyyyyackerman, @undecidingfate, @nightlysunn, @faeryminnyx, @simpcreator, @thelovebuggs, @urlocalheizousimp, @sunlightstarr
Read more of my works on my Masterlist / Masterlist 2 | Maybe support me by tipping me on Ko-Fi or by reblogging my fanfics! ^^ I will also be posting exclusive fanfics on Ko-Fi as well very soon! I might post all of my stories on there too, but who knows. You can also tip me on Tumblr if you'd like as a way to show support! ^^

Often when I'm feeling dogmode or any other kind of alterhuman way, I like to play video games as a way of self-expressing. Especially ones that let me play as something similar to [x creature] I feel like at that moment. Here are some I'd recommend to others, sorted into vague categories. Almost all of them will include some degree of character customization, as that's what I look for the most in games like this.
Canines:
WolfQuest: A simulation game where you live as a wolf, finding a mate and raising pups together. There's a learning curve, but it's so much fun to play. The devs really do a wonderful job of striking a balance between realism and enjoyable gameplay.
WolfHome (browser game): An MMO/chatroom that is very old and very dead, but I still like to hop in it and emote for funsies.
Reach of The River: You can play as a deer or a wolf.
Rabbits:
Bunhouse: A cute gardening game where you play as a rabbit that can walk on both two legs and four.
Deer:
The Deer God: A pixel game on Steam where you get to be a deer. Not super great, but I liked how relaxing it was.
The Endless Forest: A free indie game from the early 2000s where you play as a deer with a human face in an idyllic forest. No chat system, no identification beyond a pictogram if you choose to make an account. You can customize your deer with masks, pelts, and antlers, but you need the help of other players to do it!
Reach of the River: You can play as a deer or a wolf.
Birds:
Feather: A relaxing game where you play as a bird and fly around. Yes, that's it. Yes, it's beautiful.
Untitled Goose Game: It's a beautiful day, and you are a horrible goose.
Various real-world animals:
Meadow: A relaxing, no-combat, no-chat game where you can play as various mammals (and a few birds, and a frog!) including lynxes, foxes, goats/deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, pheasants...
The Shelter Series (including Paws): Badger (Shelter), Lynx (Shelter 2/Paws), Elephants (Shelter 3). Made by the same company that made Meadow.
Animalia Survival: An MMO survival game where you can play as a lion, zebra, wildebeest, hunting dog, and various other African animals. This one isn't as enjoyable as a game, it relies heavily on finding a good server that isn't toxic, but I still like prowling around as a lioness in it.
Dinosaurs and Reptiles:
Beasts of Bermuda: Like Animalia Survival, but with dinosaurs. Relies on finding a good server.
Lil Gator Game: You are a baby crocodile anthro running around in a world of other creatures.
Bugs and Aliens:
Empires of the Undergrowth: Ant life simulator. It's pretty good, but strategy-oriented.
Rain World: Slugcats are both slugs and cats. Somehow they feel more like aliens to me though.
Outer Wilds: You are an alien exploring space. This one has a beautiful story and is very immersive.
Drunk on Nectar: Various bugs, including jumping spider, mantis, and butterfly.
Robots:
Warframe: A free game that has a fantastic story once you get into it. Lots of shooting things in space, but you can swap between Warframes and customize your Warframe's colours etc.
The Talos Principle: A puzzle game with strong themes of religion, autonomy, personhood, etc. You are a robot.
Misc:
Book of Travels: If you kin any kind of human from older eras of humanity you might like this one. I can't explain it, but it brings me comfort when I'm feeling Paleolithic despite not being in that era at all.
Roblox: There are tons of games on Roblox that will allow you to play as all kinds of creatures, from realistic to fantasy. Warrior Cats Ultimate Edition, Feather Family, and Farm Life are ones I enjoy a lot. There are various dragon and dinosaur ones too, gryphons, unicorns, etc.
Furcadia: There are so many realms where you can be whatever you want. The community is very furry and alterhuman friendly. It can be quiet in the SFW areas but it's still absolutely worth checking out.
Illarion: You can play as various fantasy races. Roleplay is enforced, but I personally like it for wandering around as an orc or a lizardman or what have you.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey: If you kin any kind of ape or prehistoric human, this one's for you!
Personally I really recommend checking out Roblox, there are SO many beautifully-made games with shockingly good graphics on there. Not just for therians either!
For humanoids, I also generally recommend games with fun character customization screens like Skyrim, Baldur's Gate 3, and Elden Ring, even if the gameplay itself doesn't bring me much euphoria.
Please feel free to add your own recommendations and thoughts!

Theropod Facial structure theory
I have been trying to write this paper out so many times and the lack of funds to hire an editor/publish as well as getting this organized in a fashion that's considered proper for a scientific paper has caused me to hit so many walls, not including the learning disabilities that have made this worse to get this out. So i'm doing this to get what information i've been gathering since 2018.
looking at young corvid images of their open mouth, they had a lip area in their mouth that the upper beak would overlap and lay in perfectly, this is what started me down the road along with noticing the formina on the sides of theropod faces matched that of goose skulls I saw online. As I had no access to actual specimens in person.
Tumblr media
feeling as though waterfowl specimens were the easiest to obtain(they were actually more difficult than thought) as well as being closer to dinosaurs on the evolutionary tree next to ratites, and even living along dinosaurs during the late cretaceous ie presbyornis, they seemed to be the best to study for this.
After obtaining a pair of peking duck and an african goose, from some local farmers that donated them, they were dissected and preserved using techniques learned from taxidermy for study. The specimens had one side of their bills removed while leaving the skin intact on the otherside. One of the peking ducks kept the tissue on both sides, while only one side had the top layer of the epidermis removed, exposing the harder dermis underneath. A noticeable attribute was that before preservation the bills were plump and didn't show any texturing, except for the goose around the back nearest to the corner of the mouth. Once preserved however, the skin on the bills shrank, revealing grooves and texturing where nerves and blood vessels would run.
The sensory organs and nerves that ran in the bills were observed using a candlelight method/ie holding them up to the light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tyrannosaurus Juvenile Jane specimen for comparison
The deep grooves and formina on the bill, as well as the formina and grooves that are seen in T.Rex have many similarities, which was the main focus of this study as they're are numerous studies pertaining to their sensory organs. Also something to compare is that there is a distinct row of formina that's more prominent on older crocodiles and alligators along the dentiary similar to that of T.Rex, on both the top and bottom row of the mandibles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media
komodo dragon profile view(comparing formina)
Though waterfowl having lamillae cannot be used to compare enamel ware. While crocodiles and alligators have teeth, but are known for not having lips, have ware and tare on their teeth than animals like monitor lizards that have lips as shown in this study using a relative of Tyrannosaurus rex to prove they had some form of lip to protect their tooth enamel.
Another observation is that in alligators the bottom row of dentary is tucked under the upper mandible and covered more than in crocodilians. It would be interesting to see the tooth study done with other teeth on both animals, as some of the posterior dentary on the upper mandible can sometimes be seen tucking away in a pocket of skin as protection in some alligators.
Tumblr media
Also looking at neonatal alligators shows a depression in the lower jaw area that the upper dentary could sit in, almost as though their reminants of lips
Tumblr media
neonatal alligator from natgeo on alligator facial mechanoreceptors
and while alligators and crocodilians seem to have scaling on their face this is just thickened sensitive skin with cracked texturing imitating scales. Bills on waterfowl are also thickened as this allows them to forage in merky waters and plants without damaging their bills. While both animals have thickened skin on their manidbles, it is still a very sensitive part of their body that they use to navigate and explore/manipulate their environment as well as interact with other of their species. While reptiles have less sensitivity and do not share these organs along their faces(the skin sense organ of some iguanian lizards). This could be also a lack of information on the anatomy of reptile skulls and facial structures that could be expanded more for comparison.
However there was a study done on the facial sensitivity of Tyrannosaurus along with alligators
See Complex Neurovascular system in the dentary of Tyrannosaurus
See Despite their thick skins, alligators and crocodiles are surprisingly touchy
and while it took awhile to find and make available, there had been a paper written on a very similar organ within the bills of waterfowl, namely mallard ducks.
See The Morphology and Distribution of Cutaneous Mechanoreceptors(Herbst and Grandry Corpuscles in Bill and Tongue of the Mallard)
And while Monitor lizards and other reptiles share a similar formina pattern, they lack the textured grooves and sensitive organs archosaurs and certain avians share, as well as other anatomical features of moniotor lizard skulls that they share more closely with other reptiles and snakes than they do with the archosaurians and avians.

T.Rex skull ventral view
another observation in many reptile skulls is how the upper and lower dentary interact. While some had teeth that overlapped the lower mandible, there seemed to be somewhere that the teeth met, either at the anterior end of the skull or continually all around, in monitors there was some sort of gap at the anterior portion of the dentary to make way for the tongue to be able to slide in and out without being obstructed too much while allowing the mouth to stay closed. Where as archosaurs and avians the two overlapped one another allowing for a scissoring affect with the teeth, the most noticeable being the anterior end of the mandibles. And while waterfowl lack the dentary that archosaurs and reptiles have, the lamillae still slide past one another similar to what's observed in many theropods, even in non avian dinosaurs. The thought of bone to tooth contact is considered as well, and there can be a sizeable closure without the need for the amount of soft tissue observed in reptiles.
Tumblr media
proposed crocodilian like contact of tooth on mandible(top), proposed soft tissue similar to that of monitor lizards(bottom left), new proposed soft tissue without scaled lips(bottom right)
Having soft tissued lips that is similar to that of a waterfowls bill allows for the mechanosensory corpusicules to interact as well as still allows for protection of the tooth enamel.
The way their upper dentary line up with their lower mandibular formina seems to follow the same pattern, compared to reptiles that didn't curve upwards towards the anterior portion of the lower mandible. There's also a possibility of having a nail, like waterfowl, or some large scale, like many other reptiles with dentary, at the anterior ends of the upper and lower manible. This is due to the amount of formina clustering in a pattern like structure similarly seen in both waterfowl and reptiles.
These observations and studies allowed for an idea of how to reconstruct Tyrannosaurus Rex
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Juvenile Jane Tyannosaurus Rex skull, with open and closed mouth(top) and reconstructions
Even constructing a physical reconstruction to better observe how the lips and teeth would interact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paper mache head reconsturction done in a similar manner to the duck and goose specimens used in this study
Also when reconstructing, and also accounting for tooth slippage, there was an issue with a sizable gap at the anterior end with the front dentary when closing the jaws when attempting to imitate the mouth closing similar to that of previous reconstructions using reptile lips, where as with the more waterfowl skin reconstruction there was less of an issue and also less of an overhanging bottom lip.
Tumblr media
Pages from personal study notes
There was also the issue of either exposing the jaw muscles similar to how crocodilians, alligators, and other reptiles are observed to have, or to cover it in skin like birds. One of the arguments is that the mouth wouldn't be able to open to the extent allosaurians and tyrannosaurus are able to open their mouths. When there are several avian species with skin over the area that can very well open their mouths just as wide, ie Bell Birds, which have a widened jugal bone like that of tyrannosaurus.
Tumblr media
Young tyrannosaurus specimen(chomper)
Also to note, in most reconstructions where there is a bony knob on the jugal, circled in the above example, is more than likely a muscle attachment point, and the divet in the space before the attachment point could allow for the corner of the lips to sit.
In conclusion, Tyrannosaurus Rex and possible other theropod dinosaurs with similar skull anatomy of the upper and lower mandibles more than likely had thickened yet sensitive skin with a lip like structure similar to that of waterfowl and not a scaled skin.

Writing Notes: Hard Science Fiction
Tumblr media
Hard science fiction - a subgenre of science fiction writing that emphasizes scientific accuracy and precise technical detail as part of its world-building.
When these science fiction stories touch on real-world topics like space travel, earth science, computer advancements, and artificial intelligence, they do so with an eye toward accuracy.
Hard science fiction also goes by shortened names like “hard sci-fi” and “hard SF.”
Prominent awards in the hard science fiction space include the Hugo Award, the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Nebula Award, and the Jupiter Award.
Hard sci-fi contrasts with another type of science fiction writing that can be called soft science fiction.
Soft sci-fi novels and movies deal with topics that do not comport with science as we understand it.
For instance, the recreation of dinosaurs in Jurassic Park and its sequels does not fully overlap with scientific reality, although the book's explanation of DNA technology is largely accurate.
Other scientifically unfeasible topics like time travel or faster-than-light spaceships similarly qualify a book as soft sci-fi.
Examples of Hard Science Fiction Books
There is no shortage of science fiction novels, short stories, movies, and TV shows that lean into hard science as part of their world-building. Explore some of the influential hard science fiction books of the past few decades.
Foundation by Isaac Asimov (1951): This book, which kicked off a long series by Asimov, takes place in a distant future but is anchored by concepts in real-world mathematics, holographs, and psychology.
The Sentinel by Arthur C. Clarke (1951): Clarke adapted his short story into the Stanley Kubrick-directed cinematic space opera 2001: A Space Odyssey. Between the initial short story and the movie, Clarke deals with topics of evolution, space travel, starships, artificial intelligence, and the first contact with alien life forms.
Mission of Gravity by Hal Clement (1953): This early standard of hard science fiction novels takes place on a disk-shaped planet called Mesklin where human life cannot survive, but human-made probes can encounter aliens. As Clement describes this alien new world, he grounds his science in proven truths about chemistry and physics.
The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton (1969): Crichton is best known for Jurassic Park, but in his first book, he tackled the subject of pandemic viruses.
Tau Zero by Poul Anderson (1970): This hard science fiction novel is a thrill ride in both the figurative and literal sense, as it imagines a near-light-speed vehicle that careens out of control. While most physicists strongly doubt a future where humans could travel anywhere near the speed of light, Anderson does anchor a great deal of the novel in real-world physics.
Ringworld by Larry Niven (1973): Niven's novel is about aliens and massive artificial worlds, but it is based on the hard science of Newtonian physics and Mendelian biology.
Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke (1973): Clarke followed up his work on 2001: A Space Odyssey by penning this tale where a strange spaceship called Rama enters the solar system. The book is packed with scientifically accurate descriptions of mechanics and astrophysics.
Dragon's Egg by Robert L. Forward (1980): This hard sci-fi book drew rave reviews from genre masters Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke for its tale of neutron stars and extraterrestrial life.
Neuromancer by William Gibson (1984): Gibson’s dystopian novel, which bears some resemblance to Blade Runner (which came out two years prior), deals with computer science cyberpunk culture and the rise of artificial intelligence.
Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson (1992): This novel, which kicks off Robinson's Mars trilogy, deals with the colonization of Mars in a world where Earth has become uninhabitable. Robinson starts with a foundation of real-world astrophysics and geopolitics and then builds from there.
A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge (1992): This dystopian novel about future wars with alien races bases its science on real-life military technology, artificial intelligence, astrophysics, and cognitive science.
Starfish by Peter Watts (1999): This hard science fiction novel takes place under the sea. It deals with marine biology and bioengineering but also psychology and mental illness, topics that set it apart from many other hard sci-fi works.
Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds (2000): Reynolds holds a Ph.D. in astronomy and he uses it to great effect in this interstellar thriller that combines the quiet dread of Arthur C. Clarke with the astronomical wonder of Carl Sagan.
Schild's Ladder by Greg Egan (2002): Egan bases this novel on the work of real-life mathematician Alfred Schild and his contributions to differential geometry.
The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu (2008): This novel by sci-fi author Cixin Liu takes its title from a real concept in orbital mechanics. It imagines a near future where the human race awaits an interstellar invasion from beyond our solar system. Its characters discover a planet that belongs to three different suns, and while this may not be scientifically possible, it is still grounded in elements of real-world physics.
The Martian by Andy Weir (2012): Weir's debut novel, which was later the basis of a Hollywood blockbuster, involves an astronaut stranded on Mars. His survival techniques—and the techniques of his earthbound comrades trying to rescue him—are grounded in real-world scientific facts and discoveries.

Witches, Heretics, and Other Outcasts AU
Exploring some more Star Sparks lore. Had the idea that during the Great Cataclysm, there were some Cybertronians that managed to befriend some Predacons and got them to some of the shelters. Unknowing of Prima’s initial plan to wipe them out with the apocalyptic event. When they came out and were discovered afterwards, they defied Prima and went out into the wilds with their predacon friends. From there, with a love for the starry nights discovered, they became Star Sparks.
There are cavern openings where stray Cybertronians from the Well managed to wander out of and into the wilds. The predacons came to claim them amongst their growing bands and tribes. Becoming a tradition that the predacons would help choose which brand new Cybertronian goes to which tribe that seems to suit them best.
It is always night out when this occurs. Without fail, the wanderers come out at night and the first thing they see are the Stars.
Long Neck is the predacon of the Pax tribe. A grandmotherly figure who is used to be climbed on by the youth wishing to get a better look at the sky and land. She is the one to find Orion shyly hiding and drew him out with her trumpet song.
(Since dinosaurs are what inspired the dragons in stories and legends, I figured some predacons would also take after dinosaur like designs too here.)
(I follow the idea that Primus and Unicron share a mind link together when dreaming and some ideas and thoughts and imagery are unwittingly shared between them.)
(I also had this idea, following my own background of Primus, Unicron, and Elder Sibling (multi headed Quintessons figure in future) that after Elder Sibling traumatized Primus the way they did, Primus still caries that trauma and years later when as a planet, had a cope nightmare/dream of the situation where he wanted a different outcome. If he had monstrous figures to protect him from Elder Sibling when he was young and naive still. If these monsters were kinder and protective towards him despite their own blood sucking nature.
Thus cane the first predacon Onyx and then later other predacons meant to protect Cybertron from outside forces, especially Elder Sibling (and later Quintessons) but Prima’s bias and prejudice blew up that up to smithereens.)
Also thinking of recycling some deity characters I had from another fandom to here bc I had so much fun with them.
A Star Sparks legend about a predacon who became the night sky and brought the stars out with them as they pass over.

i like shiny things (but i'd marry you with paper rings)
randomly thinking about esme morgan and how she made bracelets for the engwnt during their down time and just picturing a reader x alessia where r does origami when they're anxious or in between games. idk if anyone's written this idea before so mb if it's repetitive (i feel like i read an origami-reader fic before but i believe it was with jessie fleming x r) not a fic, not a blurb, just an idea/storyline :) fun fact: an instagram reel prompted this 😅 | alessia russo x reader
~~~
like imagine the first time alessia walks into your shared hotel room to see a handful of paper cranes of different colours laid across the bed, your tongue poking out slightly, eyebrows furrowed as you had a website open on your phone showing you how to make a dragon.
and you're so concentrated you don't hear alessia come in, you just fiddle with the paper and let out a huff when you realize you have to unwind the folds you just did.
it's only when she clears her throat at you, still standing near the door that you snap out of what you're doing, eyes going wide, the dinosaur that looks more like a worm flying out of your hands.
and you'd look at her with an embarrassed look, quickly gathering the seven or so different paper cranes, bringing them towards your lap in a futile attempt to hide em, as alessia would watch you with a fond smile on her face.
or can we talk about how she'd quietly get you more origami paper the next time she goes out with the girls to explore the city, shyly coming back with a fresh pack of origami sheets, this time in pastel colours, shades you absolutely adored.
the way she'd enter the room anxiously, thumb playing with the ring on her finger as she'd hide the package behind her with her other hand, shoulder's curled in, skittish smile on her face.
how you'd wave her in, a huge smile on her face, not suspecting a thing as you chatted with your mother on the phone.
she'd maybe sit on the edge of the bed, a few feet away from you, the papers still hidden as you'd talk animatedly on the phone for a couple more minutes.
it's during that time that alessia would cast her gaze across the room, taking in how many different little paper creations, varying from flowers to cranes to butterflies to shapes like stars and hearts littered the room, smiling tenderly to herself.
and when you'd finish up the call, looking over at the blonde with a large grin on your face you'd already be excited by her mere presence, your golden retriever personality making itself known.
that grin would only grow wider as she would shuffle closer to you, the origami sheets still miraculously hidden (not hard to do really since all your focus was on alessia, your eyes nearly in the shape of a heart) and she'd give you a gentle kiss on your forehead and then lips, before pulling back shyly, the words quiet as they left her.
'i got you a little something...'
you'd tilt your head in question, a singular eyebrow raising as you'd finally notice how her other arm was somewhat awkwardly positioned behind her.
and you'd kind of tense up into a sitting position, concerned at what it could be.
'relax, it's nothing crazy, just a small little item i've been meaning to grab for you'
the words would be gentle, with a slight teasing lilt.
and she'd carefully present you the origami sheets, placing them on the sheet between you two, biting her lip nervously as she'd wait for a reaction.
your eyebrows would scrunch up immediately, hands reaching out to grab the plastic package, examining it as your jaw would drop in a pleasant mix of shock and joy.
and the way your eyes would widen as you'd read the text on around the item, the words 'origami paper' written clear as day, your heart feeling so full, warmth coursing through your veins as you'd realize that alessia had noticed your stack was running out, even going as far as to get them in colours you loved.
the papers would gently be thrown to the side as everything would click, you launching yourself at the blonde, arms coming to immediately wrap around her shoulders and neck as you'd bury your face in her neck.
your excited 'thank you' would be muffled with how tightly you were hugging her, your grin from earlier returning, only now it was nearly twice the size.
the blonde would chuckle gently at your delighted state, hugging you back with just as much enthusiasm, placing a gentle kiss to your temple just before you'd pull back, nearly shaking with elation.
placing a few loving kisses onto her lips you'd mumble another thank you in between them, pulling away once your couldn't contain your excitement.
and you'd rip into the new packaging, old papers be damned because your girlfriend got you these and they were immediately, undoubtedly the better papers now.
and eventually, as it would become time to check out of the hotel a few days later, alessia would find herself once again standing in the middle of the room, this time the whole room nearly taken over by butterflies, dragons (which you now finally mastered), toads, cranes, rabbits, stars, hearts, chains, and like twenty other things, some in various colours of the rainbow, and more than half of them made of the pastel origami sheets. (it was clear to see you had a favourite, evident by the way nearly half the pastel paper had already been used).
and then can we talk about how maybe you both would be coming back from a really tiring game, the whole engwnt sat on the bus, the two of you choosing to sit closer to the middle-front-ish area, alessia knowing you preferred the peace and quiet as you'd fold paper and calm down from the exhilarating events of the game.
so you'd sit there, a pair of wired earbuds shared between you two as the paper pad would be precariously balancing on your thighs, rattling with every bump and uneven surface of the road.
alessia would be sat beside you, watching you with a lovestruck face as you'd continue to do fold after fold, making something new this time, what it was, alessia didn't know, you wanting to surprise her.
what she did notice however was that you had two pieces of paper out, one that was her favourite colour, and one that was your favourite colour- surely that couldn't be a coincidence, right?
and as teammates saw you back at your usual task, very much accustomed to your tendency to relax by creating little items, they let you be, a few gently requesting you for a rabbit or dragon (stanway nearly begging you to make her dinosaur, pestering you until you had finally agreed with a quiet 'later' with a fond eye roll).
you'd been very much focused since though, head nodding along to the music, the familiar 'furrowed eyebrows' look on your face, tip of your tongue peeking out as you did meticulous fold after fold, tilting your body ever so slightly so alessia couldn't make out exactly what you were creating.
it was only when you were done, two small heart rings resting in the palm of your hand, one each in your and alessia's favourite colour, did you turn around, a bashful smile on your face as you hid the two papers in a loosely closed fist.
quickly scanning to make sure no one was watching, your fear of being teased for your sappiness emerging, your leg shook with nervous energy as you realized the coast was clear.
'i made you- us- i made us paper rings in our favourite colours.'
the words would come out slightly rushed, a soft blush coming to coat your cheeks as alessia's eyes widened in joyful shock,
'i'll get you a proper one eventually, this is just a promise of that in the meantime...'
and alessia would shrug at your words, a lovesick smile crossing her face as she'd examine the heart-shaped ring intently, absolutely adoring the way it rested on her hand, loving it more than any other jewellery she owned simply because it was made by you.
and placing the ring-clad hand up to rest on your cheek, the blonde would nudge you to look at her, bringing your faces close as she'd place a gentle but loving kiss on your lips, pulling back only a few centimetres as sky blue eyes would meet yours, her next words a whispered secret between you, eliciting twin smiles, lovestruck looks crossing both of your faces.
'as long as it's you i'm marrying, i'd happily do it with paper rings.'
Select an alternate universe to study abroad in for a semester. You'll be sent there with a new body that matches inhabitants of that realm. Little to no time will pass in your world, as time between dimension is entirely diffeent. Wherever you choose to go you won't be known to be from another dimension unless you tell people.
1- an endless forest made of massive trees, so tall no mortal soul has seen the ground or the unobstructed sky. The sentient races of this world consist of slender owl like humanoids, various insectoid races, short squat mushroom people, and a minority of rodent like creatures who live further down the trees. Technology in this world is as advanced as ours, but the aesthetics are more similar to our Victorian age. They say this world's heaven is deep above the trees, and this world's hell is deep below it, with each culture's religion having its own version of God/gods above an devils in the forest floor (outside of the mushroom people, who worship gods below.)
2- an endless system of volcanic caves and tunnels that demons and fallen angels come from. This realm is vast, and is ruled over by countless lords and kings, some truly evil, some merely strange. Demons and fallen angels come is countless forms, most looking somewhat humanoid, though with strange and unnatural distortions, from animal like parts to things humans would find much more horrifying. This is one of the few realms listed where they know what earth is, but they don't know much about it outside of myth.
3- an alternate earth where mythical creatures such as vampires, werewolves, deep ones, dragons, and witches exist. It also has a population of demons and faeries who came over generations ago. While they were in hiding for many millennium, they've now taken over most of earth, with humans being removed or conquered in some regions, and peacefully integrated into others. Though in both cases they are now a minority.
4- a version of earth that's both flat and entirely endless, with many sun's carving safe warm zones in the ice. Even with 21st century technology new lands are still being explored. Most social problems still exist, but things are looking a bit more hopeful, and the world's slightly nicer to live in. Cryptids, gods, magic and the afterlife are all proven to exist, even if humanity doesn't know much about them. Human bodies here naturally trend twords looking however the person inside them wants to look, and sexual attraction and pleasure don't exist.
5- an alternate earth where the kpg mass extinction never occurred. Dinosaurs remained dominant but kept evolving, leading to a sapient race eventually emerging from raptors. The raptors are currently at a similar technology level as us, though due to how they're mind works they've spent more time developing computers and mathematics than they have any other field of technology. Also don't mind the obelisk in the pacific ocean, nobody there knows what it does or who put it there either, and we won't put you anywhere near it.
6- a world filled with giant monsters of all kinds, some looking like massive dragons or Chimeras, others looking like more strange and colorful creatures. Though some animals are smaller, the smallest intelligent creatures are the size of bears, and the largest are much bigger than blue whales. Technology is limited in some regards, mostly as the inhabitants don't always need it.
7- the world of the faeries, strange and complex, and both terrifying and beautiful. Very little is known about this realm other than the strange and often dangerous creatures who come from this place. If you go here it's likely you will remember very little and enjoy very much.
8- a universe where humanity is completely isolated to spaceships and space stations, most of them the size of cities. Humans here are grown artificially, and have completely androgynous bodies that lack biological sex, and most of them combine their bodies with mechanical upgrades becoming cyborgs. Most humans never touch a planet, and those who do don't stay there for long. There are a few alien species with planetary civilizations, but almost all of them are strange and eldrich. Technology is incredibly advanced compared to ours, and quality is life is better. Most humans consider AI taboo, though normal computers are fine and commonplace.
9- a world where humans are entirely missing, but every species of mammal is sapient and humanoid. Birds and reptiles pick up the pace of animals in the ecosystem, as the mammals have created a global civilization. Though magic doesn't exist here, and technology is around a 21st century level, the quirks of each species have created a lot of situations impossible in our world. Though several nations exist, the main powers of the world consist of a group of powerful corporations, an ancient secret society, and the church of the dead gods, all of whom are locked in a cold war, that luckily keeps the nations of this world at peace.
10- a massive city, floating in the void, surrounded by eldritch horrors. Countless humanoids have made their homes in the city, most hailing from diffrent dimensions themselves, but permanently stuck here. Though many races here could pass for humans, none of them truly are, from the sirenia who have wings for arms and hands for feet, to the modutal who can take parts of their bodies off and swap them with other members of their race, to the subterranean vamire who eat raw meat and have albino skin, to the hyven whose minds are each split between two to five bodies. It's estimated between fifty to a hundred humanoids call the city home.
11- the abyss. Do not attempt to enter the abyss. We cannot assure your safety.
How to train your Dragon x tales of Arcadia. P2
With that all said and done, now is onto personal headcannons of mine.
But one last thing: Archie and Charlemagne.
They are Dragon’s we meet in TOA, and look different from the dragons we know. But just like trolls, dragons are very diverse in there appearance, it would make sense to assume that Archie and Charlie’s appearance is in accordance to their species, which to make things simple I call Shiftwings. ( due to Archie’s shape changing ability.)
As for why they are still here and not in the Hidden world, I headcannon they found safety in entrusting their loyalty and companionship with wizards. A class of humans who were equally demonised by the rest of human kind.
And over time, they changed, sharing there magic, making bonds with Wizards to becoming familiars, understanding common due to those bonds and later speaking it themselves. And discovering and harnessing shapeshifting abilities to blend in among a shifting world.
Essentially becoming the last existing, and in some ways thriving species of dragon, left on the surface. While every single other, slowly disappeared, becoming nothing more than legends, in the eyes of all humans.
But what about trolls?
-
What happened? How did every single dragon just disappear like that? we only know of Berks dragons retreating to the hidden world, so what happened to the rest of the world? and what impact did it make on the magical world as a whole?
This is where my head cannons come in.
I head cannon Dragon’s had a very important roll in shaping the history of the magical world, it just hasn’t been relevant yet.
We know dragons are a very respected and powerful species of magical creature, Wizards wouldn’t dare cross one provoked. As with Douxie and Charlemagne. As well as dragons having a deep connection with a Wizards magic. As with Melins brief correction on the difference between Draconic and Ancient Draconic, the very language of the dragons.
We can also gather that dragons as one if not the most ancient species of this world. If we take into account there longevity and our own history, with very similar reptiles in dinosaurs, ruling the earth for far longer then humans, ands by extension trolls ever have. So by extension dragons did for the magical world, what dinosaurs did for the mortal one. So we can assume dragons are a big deal, also taking into account there depictions in so many cultures all over the world!
So what is that history? and what do they mean to Trolls?
Well, what is one thing that connects both trolls and dragons, without a them being in the same cave.
A Heartstone.
I want to quickly divert to something els for a moment and highlight the importance of individual species to the balance of nature.
Take bees.
A single species that serves as essential pollinators, crucial for our plants reproduction, and food production.
Wolfs are essential in controlling prey populations
And beavers are ecosystem engineers, which modify their environment to support other species.
Decomposers like worms and fungi are essential in breaking down organic matter.
Even large animals like Elephants, influencing vegetation by digging for water and grazing as ecosystem engineers.
Magic is emotion, is tied to the same rules as the natural world itself, so it’s safe to assume it abides by those rules too.
So why are Dragons essential, what is their impact?
Well, what is the very problem that’s been explored throughout the entirety of the TOA story line.
Balance.
With their absence there is imbalance.
Dragons acted like a bridge, they were the bridge. Creatures that conquered the land, the seas and the sky. Creatures of flesh like humans, but magic and long life like trolls, acting as the third primary apex predictor along side humans and trolls.
But they disappeared.
And while most humans celebrated, dethroning the dragons and becoming the top apex predators of this world. Trolls had other opinions, and were quick to retaliate. Breaking the barrier between the two species, leading to war.
War, that lead to Trolls going underground, and humans forgetting magic even existing.
But why would trolls care what happened to dragons, surely they would be happy too?
But that’s the thing, Dragons never stole a throne to begin with.
They not only drew the line between magic and mortal, but also sentience.
A dragon has deep understanding of magic, and the emotions of all other living beings. An empathy that did not discriminate, dragons were willing to live along side humans, as they did with Berk, so who’s to say they hadn’t already done so with trolls.
And what if they also helped them. In the words of Ruffnut and Tuffnut themselves.
Symbiosis.
What if dragons established a symbiotic relationship with trolls, in accordance to protecting and rejuvenating there heartstones. Using both species impeccable magics, trolls geological understanding and the prowess and power, that comes from Draconic magic.
In that sense, they are essential to the ecosystem of magic and nature, as are trolls as natural guardians of the special gemstones they are born from.
So when one essential species disappears from the world, what happens to the heartstones of the surface? And the trolls who since the first moments of there emersion, have established deep connections and generational history living along side such creatures?
They morn, but then get angry and have clear evidence of who to blame.
Leading to the events of the present, to wich the very primordial beings of this world, deem past the point of redemption. And doom every living thing to the fate of extinction in the case it will be better.
So, what were to happen, if the Trollhunters and the Ninth configuration find a way to prevent that, and dragons came back?
Well remember what hiccup said.
“it's the dragons letting us know they're still here. Waiting for us to figure out how to get along.”
Dragons can only return, when we figure out how to get along. What if it’s not just humans, but trolls and the world of magic and moral alike, in that sense it becomes a whole lot harder. But it just takes one spark, to light up something remarkable.
Just like it took one human, to liberate the world of trolls, and a team of all kinds of creatures, to save the world.
Perhaps it takes one dragon, to spark up another adventure.
One that could save the fate of the world, the Arcane Order dreamed, inevitable of its end.
-
Ok, Wow that was a lot, but those are my thoughts and I’d love to hear yours.
I love these two franchises and will continue to love them beyond there on screen appearances. And fanfics and Art is exactly where that can continue.
And exactly where I plan to explore these ideas. So keep an eye out.
The amount of confusion the Turtles must've had when they young and watching kids shows and movies.
If only because many of them involve anthropomorphic animals/creatures, (Franklin, Little Bear, Winnie the Pooh, Looney Toons, Fox Robin Hood, Chicken Little ect.) and humans interacting with them. (Blues Clues, Dora the Explorer, Dragon Tails, Sesame Street ect.)
And how long did it take Splinter to get them to realize that the shows and movies are not reality.
I once mentioned the idea of the Young Turtles wanting to look for Sesame Street, for the above reasons.
Though I can only wonder what they thought of like Zootopia, the Good Dinosaur, or Monsters Inc. (That last one sent me onto a different mental tangent I will ponder on)
Though minor thoughts of asking an Usagi is he knows of a place like Zootopia, do kinda get come to mind.
Share your thoughts if you want!
MY FANKID
His name is Neilson J. A! (Idk if it would be Attoms or Armstrong yet)
TLDR at the end
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, Neilson . He is very very sheltered kid. If it’s not in a book or an educational video he does NOT know it. He has everything done for him , mainly out of safety . Neilson also doesn’t.. have alot of outside knowledge. His only talked to his Dads, his baby sitter Bonnie , Max , Pikeman, and Nikki. His dad’s friends.
He’s very silly, curious, a bit blunt, a dreamer, and he’s very book smart but not smart with other things. (Never getting taught how to talk to people or deal with situations ) His one goal in life is to go and do something with it!! He doesn’t want to be restricted by his Dads or his health issues!!! He wants to travel the world! Discover new dinosaur bones!! See to the ocean! Go to the grocery story without a child leash! Even going to the park would be a milestone for this kid.
Touching on his medical stuff. He is VERY fragile. He born in a tube and was technically a failed clone. Neil did this illegally. So. He didn’t come out perfect. He has very fragile bone (will get worse with age) , bruises easily, has like a MILLION allergies (to name a FEW is grass, pollen , strawberries, peanuts, apples, a lot of medicines , ect) , he even has asthma!! Not related to this but he is autistic , that’s just from Neil and Aj though! Thankfully no anxiety :))
Neil is a helicopter parent (like in the show) who is very scared of his kid getting hurt and not being at his greatest potential. Neilson gets bored easily and tends to push Neil’s rules to the limit without “technically” breaking them and it makes Neil go BONKERS.
To counter Neil’s over protectiveness Aj (sk ) would let his kid do his own thing. He’s fun and relaxed! Type of guy to really get into playing make believe. He wants Neilson be able to grow into his own person! The downside to being the fun parent is that he isn’t taken seriously. With anyone. So when he needs to put his foot down it won’t go super smoothly
Some fun facts!
-Neilson has a pet Komodo dragon! Neil absolutely hates it and Aj can’t say no to his kid. The only reason Neilson is alive is cus it loves him
-He learns alot of “bad stuff” from Max and Nikki. They are HORRIBLE influences on him
-Neilson will make up an answer if he can’t figure it out. Which was hilarious when he cried about Aj eating hot sauce cus it would “hurt the baby “ (Aj is just fat)
-Neilson has a multitude of jobs he wants. Most notably a Zoologists or a Paleontologists.
-His very first friend is his baby sitter Bonnie :) He sees her as a big sister and learned alot of his social skills from her.
-Neilson will attend Camp Campbell eventually. By some MIRACLE. He will be put into First Aid Camp even though he was promised he’d get to pick what camp he wanted
-Neilson constantly questions everything. And it’s annoying.
-He longs to go outside and will sit on his Window sill to imagine what it’s like
-The whole family was inspired on old family sitcoms like Full house or Roseanne.
TLDR; Neilson is a silly, curious, blunt, sorta smart kid. He is super fragile but his medical conditions and Dads won’t stop him from trying to explore the world. Neil is a nervous helicopter parent and Aj(sk) is a chill dad who gets walked on.
Here’s him out in the open , free in his living room
The mouth didn't turn out how I wanted it. Other than that, it looks alright.
Joschua Knüppe is a German paleoartist and concept artist, celebrated for his vivid reconstructions of prehistoric life and speculative ecosystems. Born on June 6, 1992, in Mettingen, Germany, Knüppe began drawing dinosaurs as a child and pursued his passion for art and paleontology throughout his life. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Münster, where he explored various artistic disciplines, including performance and conceptual art. His work often blends scientific accuracy with creative storytelling, making him a prominent figure in the field of paleoart.
Knüppe's artistic portfolio is diverse, encompassing paleoart, fictional ecosystems, and mythological creatures like dragons, which he depicts with a striking sense of realism. His projects include "Dragons of the World," "Planet Silvanus," and "Future Birds and Their World," among others. He has also contributed to scientific publications, such as illustrating marine amniote remains for the Geological Magazine, and co-authored the graphic novel Europasaurus: Life on Jurassic Islands with Oliver Wings. His art is deeply interconnected, forming a "four-dimensional network" of ideas that evolve over time, reflecting his conceptual approach to creativity.
Beyond his individual work, Knüppe is a community builder in the paleoart world. He founded the Paleostream community, a collective of international digital artists who regularly produce and share new works. He has also collaborated with museums and scientific institutions, creating illustrations for exhibitions and educational materials. Through his art and outreach, Knüppe bridges the gap between science and imagination, inspiring both the scientific community and the public to explore the wonders of prehistoric life.
games w. species euphoria
please don't spoil any of the games with stories in the replies or reblogs!
Ori and the Blind Forest - felinekin, maybe some kind of fae or angel kin too ori is very good little creature design and it moves around so fluidly but there's zero customization, if you vibe with ori it's great and if you don't, might not be for you. it's a puzzle platformer similar gameplay-wise to hollow knight (but not as difficult)
Hollow Knight - bugkin, ghostkin, voidkin difficult but very pretty and atmospheric. i've played some of it before getting stuck/being unable to progress because i'm not good at video game. hard platformer with boss fights.
Stray - robotkin, catkin this is one i've been meaning to play for ages (and haven't gotten around to pirating yet, cough) Stray is a 3d game set in a cyberpunk/sci fi world. You play as a tabby cat trying to find its way back to its home and it looks stunning. I assume the story is great, too.
Roblox Creatures of Sonaria - there are so many creature designs there you're bound to find something that's youcore their colors can be customized. It's a multiplayer survival game so it's more stressful than the other games on this list, you gotta be trying not to die the whole time
Animal Jam Classic / Animal Jam Play Wild - lots of real world animals you can dress up and change the colors and patterns of your animals. ajc is in 2d and ajpw is in 3d and has more animal options, but i find ajpw really confusing personally.
William and Sly/William and Sly 2 - foxkin old flash games available as a set on steam, a quest platformer where you run around a pretty forest environment as a red fox and find various things. the music is lovely, both games have a great atmosphere, played it a ton as kid on armor games. i dont think i ever even finished either game i just loved running around as sly (in the second game there are also little kitten-fairies that you can collect and that follow you around)
Postmouse - mousekin free on steam, 3d puzzle platformer where you're a mouse that delivers letters. it can get a little obtuse and confusing at times which is why i never finished it, but it's very charming and free to play! you run around all these huge and pretty environments as a fancy-dressed little mouse .
Lost Dream 1 and 2 - foxkin abstract/stylized/polygonal walking simulator where you play as a red fox. doesn't seem to be much story and the reviews are mixed because walking sims like this need to be like, your cup of tea.
Spyro Reignited - dragonkin of course had to mention such an OG dragon game. never played it but like, it's spyro. cartoony 3d platformer in a fantasy environment.
Oneshot - catkin pixel rpg where you play as a cat child and the gimmick is that you only have one life. the steam page tags it as story rich and having multiple endings/story choices you can make, and the graphics are beautiful, the whole game seems to be made of dark colors and poppy accents
Honorable Mentions:
Way to the Woods - an in-development 3d game where you play as a deer and fawn exploring different enviroments.
The Isle - an early access survival MMO where you play as a dinosaur and try to stay alive.
feel free to add more in reblogs, i know i'm missing a lot of classics but i'm getting tired
