Whether you're preparing for a driving test, adapting to Australian road rules, or just brushing up on your skills, enrolling in a local driving school in Canberra can make a significant difference.
Driving test preparation in Canberra is one of the main reasons learners and experienced drivers seek refresher training. If you haven’t driven in a while or failed a previous test, a refresher course with a qualified ACT driving instructor can help you identify weak areas and improve your performance before retaking the test. These lessons are tailored to your skill level and ensure you're fully prepared for all parts of the test—from basic maneuvers to more complex traffic situations.

Community Activities in Narre Warren South
Community activities Narre Warren South are a great way to keep kids active and engaged. These include music programs that improve self regulation and memory, and Peaceful Kids, a mindfulness and positive psychology program.
Keen fisherman will love the recent trout stocking of Berwick Springs Lake, a tranquil setting within a suburban township. The reserve also features a number of ornamental lakes and wetlands.
Berwick Springs Park
The huge and scenic Berwick Springs Reserve is hidden away from the busy Clyde Road congestion. The wetlands run right across the middle of this large estate making it perfect for an afternoon stroll or 5km run, or for a family picnic. The lake along Berwick Springs Promenade is especially lovely and on sunny afternoons ducks and birds flock to it. There are plenty of benches around the lake and on summer days the water fountain turns on and sprays a cooling mist over you as you walk by.
There are also two fenced playgrounds, one at the northern end near Berwick Springs Promenade and the other closer to the centre of the park at Moondarra Drive. Both have slides, ladders, monkey bars, a tunnel, climbing net and a curved set of variable height stepping stones. There are also swings, including one for toddlers. The area is popular so on weekends and holidays you can expect to see lots of like-minded families.
Berwick Springs Wetland Reserve
Tucked away from Clyde Road, this huge reserve is a quiet spot to enjoy the outdoors. The wetlands span across the entire estate making this a perfect spot for an afternoon stroll, a 5km run or a picnic. There are multiple different paths which are all bike and pram friendly, allowing you to wander at your own pace.
There are a number of benches overlooking the lake's central lake where ducks and birds flock on sunny afternoons. There is also a large archway covered in lush greenery which makes an impressive entrance from Berwick Springs Promenade on the western end of the park.
The reserve has a small sand beach at the entry along with a jetty jutting out over the lake. During my visit I was delighted to see a pair of black swans lingering by the sand and water. The park has a number of circular fenced platforms overhanging the lakes along Moondarra Drive where you can sit and relax.
Casey Central Park
The park is a beautiful location for families and has something for everyone, no matter the time of year. Visitors can explore popular attractions on guided horse-and-carriage, bike, running and fitness tours, have a picnic, play on the playgrounds, visit Central Park Zoo or swim in the pool. There are also a number of sports and recreational activities available, including a skating rink and yoga classes.
The new community recreation park will expand the range of outdoor recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. It will complement existing facilities in Casey, as well as broader Gungahlin and Canberra region recreation areas. Feedback from the community and stakeholders was sought on the indicative designs for the park ahead of construction commencing in 2023.
Parking is free and conveniently located on one level. There are almost 1400 spaces, including disabled and parents with prams parking. There are also numerous taxi ranks throughout the centre, including outside Blooms The Chemist.
Narre Warren South Tennis Club
The Narre Warren South Tennis Club is a great place for kids to stay active during school holidays. There are a variety of activities and lessons available for kids of all ages. The club also offers a range of competitive leagues and tournaments. Its members regularly compete in BDTA and WDTA competitions. The club also houses Millennium Tennis Academy, which provides professional coaching services for adults and children.
Getting to Berwick Springs Park is easy with Moovit. Moovit’s all-in-one app gives you fast and accurate step-by-step directions from any transit station to your destination. Over 1.5 million users, including locals from Narre Warren South, trust Moovit for their public transit needs. Try it for free!

How to Get Your Learner Licence in the ACT: A Step-by-Step Guide
Getting your learner licence is an exciting first step toward becoming a confident and responsible driver. In the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), the licensing process is designed to help new drivers gradually gain the skills and experience needed for safe driving. Whether you’re a teenager ready to hit the road or an adult learning to drive for the first time, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know about obtaining your ACT learner licence.
At Ghatorha Driving School, we’re committed to supporting new drivers every step of the way. With the right guidance from a professional ACT driving instructor, the journey from your Ls to a full licence becomes much smoother and more enjoyable.

Step 1: Be the Right Age
Before anything else, you must be at least 15 years and 9 months old to be eligible for a learner licence in the ACT. This age requirement ensures that learners are mature enough to begin the responsibilities associated with driving.
Step 2: Complete a Pre-Learner Course
Next, you’ll need to successfully complete a Pre-Learner Course. This course is designed to give you a foundational understanding of road safety, vehicle control, and basic driving skills. It’s typically conducted over two sessions and includes interactive learning to help you feel more confident when you begin real-world driving.
Enrolling in a reliable Canberra driving school, like Ghatorha Driving School, is highly recommended. We offer flexible schedules and supportive instructors to make the learning experience both effective and stress-free.
Step 3: Pass the Road Rules Knowledge Test
Once you’ve completed the Pre-Learner Course, the next step is to pass the computer-based Road Rules Knowledge Test. This test assesses your understanding of essential road rules, signage, and safe driving practices. It’s available at most Canberra Connect shopfronts, and it’s important to prepare well in advance. You can access practice tests online or through a qualified ACT driving instructor who can guide you through the theory and practical elements.
Step 4: Visit a Canberra Connect Shopfront
After passing your test, you’ll need to attend a Canberra Connect shopfront in person. Here, you’ll submit the necessary documentation, pay the applicable fees, and receive your learner licence and official logbook.
The logbook is where you’ll record all your supervised driving hours. In the ACT, you’ll need to complete at least 100 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night, before progressing to the next stage of your licence.
Step 5: Start Driving Lessons
With your learner licence in hand, you can now begin driving lessons in Canberra. Taking structured lessons with a qualified instructor is essential to building strong driving habits, gaining confidence, and learning how to handle various road conditions.
At Ghatorha Driving School, we offer personalised driving lessons tailored to your skill level and learning pace. The Rogues Rant #299
March 2nd 2022
Welcome to The Rogues Rant, an occasional look at all things Rugby.
By Ron Wood
In some more sad news this week we mark the passing of IDRU Judiciary Chairman Brian Baird. Brian aged 77, passed away peacefully last Friday at home surrounded by family. Brian was a Life Member of Waratahs Rugby Club and a former District President of the IDRU. Brian joined the IDRU Judiciary Panel in the early 2000’s serving as Chairman for the best part of the last ten years. His Funeral will be held at St Marks Anglican Church, 429 Crown Street Wollongong, on Friday 4th March at 2.00PM. RIP Brian Baird.
UTS Gordon prevailed in difficult conditions at the Kiama Sevens on Saturday. With rain an issue throughout the day especially during the Finals, Gordon slugged it out with North Sydney in driving rain for a narrow 12 – 10 victory to take the 50th Kiama Sevens title. Despite the conditions Tournament Organisor Mark Bryant was pleased with the day’s events telling the Illawarra Mercury, “It was a great day though, especially to have been able to keep the competition going through the COVID period and be able to be here this year without a lot of the restrictions. To be in our 50th year, it’s a great celebration for the community.” Results – Mens Final, UTS Gordon 12 North Sydney 10. Bowl Final, Shoalhaven 17 La Parouse 10. Womens Final Buraneer 17 Sydney Uni 0. Mens Plate Final Manly 40 Gunghalin 0. Mens Country Final Parkes 38 Albury Wodonga 5. Womens Country Final Albury Wodonga 10 Batemans Bay 10, Albury Wodonga took the title being the first try scorer of the Final.
The Rugby Rumor mill is picking up momentum. Word has reached the Rogues ears that unless there is a marked improvement in attendances at training at a couple of Wollongong City based clubs very soon, there may well be discussions for the creation of a joint venture for season 2022.
The Waratahs performances so far this season has been a pleasure to watch. This year’s version of the NSW side has shown a much different attitude and approach to that we have been exposed to in recent years. There has been plenty of effort and drive in the opening two games with the side showing that they can indeed play this game the way it is meant to be played. The side looks fitter and stronger and consequently their basic skills execution has markedly improved. I reckon we are going to see plenty of good Rugby from this group going forward. The narrow loss to the Reds last week could be put down to a couple of tactical decisions made at crucial times of the match that swayed things toward the Reds. Also another outstanding performance from James O’connor made a huge contribution to the ultimate outcome of the match. Three out of five for The Rogue last week and there are some really interesting matches to consider this week. I’m going to go with the Pasifica guys in their first appearance this week against the Crusaders. The Rebels were pretty ordinary last week but I’ll still go for them to beat The Drua. The Force and The Reds could go either way but I’m leaning slightly towards the Reds. I think The Blues would have learnt a few lessons from their loss last week, so I am going for them to win against the Chiefs. I think The Hurricanes can keep The Highlanders winless. The Brumbies and Waratahs should be a cracker. For no other reason than that the match is in Canberra, I’m going for a narrow Brumby win. My Tips again: Pasifica, Rebels, Reds, Blues, Hurricanes, Brumbies.
Rugby Diary 2022
