just recently started reading maxiel and fr this has to be the goat f1 ship. the sheer levels of down bad max experiences. the insecurity and obsession Daniel oscillates between constantly. the lore!!! like actual lore, not just fan projections!!

and idk if it’s just me but the quality of fics is insane. like there may be other more popular ships but maxiel fics are soo diverse in terms of world building and universes, they’re a pairing that truly work in so many contexts!!

@orangerosebush's post here, with my comment and @fowlblue's tags today got me thinking.

Artemis Senior has been teaching his son matters of business from a young age. Not only was Artemis, at 11 years old, discussing stocks with his father, but Fowl Senior had been imparting his wisdom onto his son for years by that point, discussing the ever-increasing value of gold with him before tucking him into bed. Even outside of pure monetary value, Sr. had tried to go legitimate with his business dealings, leading Artemis to have a few legal ventures of his own.

We also see very early on in the books that Artemis has been regularly using Butler as a resource for his plots: bouncing ideas off him was apparently a fairly common tactic when he was scheming.

Both Artemis Senior and Butler are interested in (or at least, not opposed to) educating Artemis on the ways of their lifestyle(s). It would be Artemis Senior who would have taught his son the value of banks and safety deposit boxes and hidden safes but it was Butler who was actively working with Artemis to rob those safety deposit boxes.

In the same vein of breaking-and-entering, TLC also gives us the fun little moment where Butler hands Artemis his own lockpicks, to get into the workings of the bomb.

With one line we learn that Artemis knows how to pick locks, but does not have his own set of lockpicks. Butler, on the other hand, has both the tools and knowledge how to use them. Partnered with a brief mention in TTP of some the specific trades of those previously employed by Artemis Senior (including such things as crime lords, insider traders, and cat burglars), we can extrapolate that Artemis Senior would generally hire someone to pick a lock for him, rather than do so himself.

It's pretty logical to conclude then that Artemis learned big-picture management from his father, and day-to-day skillsets from his bodyguard.

Essentially, Artemis Senior taught Artemis how to run a criminal empire. Butler taught Artemis how to be a criminal.

Okay I know I am the number one Ajax/Cleon lobbyist on this website but I also have a lot of fondness in my heart for Ajax and Cleon as age-mismatched work besties. They joined the Warriors at the same time and got sent on the same shitty newbie jobs so they became friends even though Cleon was 25 and Ajax was 15 at the time. And now Ajax still has the sense that she and Cleon are basically equals in terms of seniority even though Cleon is literally the leader now. Ajax is like wdym. Me and Cleon are definitely the same age. We've been Warriors for the same amount of time and that's basically the same thing right.

Ajax (barely legal to drink) barging into Cleon's office to complain to her about Girl Trouble meanwhile Cleon (pushing 30) (newly in charge of her own gang) is like dear God how did I end up in this situation. But also thats Her Girl so like they're stuck together forever.

ahaha absolutely!! look oscar puts comfort above all and whilst he gets why other omegas dress up fancy during courting and stuff he’d much rather just lounge around in tshirts and shorts - and assumes the same about everyone else

after the grid have figured out he’s an omega, oscar gets a lot more comfortable in the pack room which is why when he walks into the pack room one day expecting to flop into the nest with everyone else and is hit with half the grid standing in their best outfits to impress him he’s baffled

(i say best outfits but they’re like that meme about everyone getting invites to a different event based on their outfits - max is wearing a white tshirt and jeans which for him is dressed up because he’s ditched the rb tee, Lewis is next to him in an outfit out of an editorial, charles looks like the son of a mafia boss, lando looks like he’s off to play golf with a billionaire, the list goes on)

Oh wait is it a toxic family when the father refuses to take accountability and instead blames the kids for his mistakes? And as a result the kids are unwillingly shoehorned into roles where one is the golden perfectionistic never allowed to criticise the family child, and the other is the black sheep difficult selfish disobedient child?

And the golden child is about to explode because he’s never allowed to have his own opinions and so when he feels real frustration at his father, he can’t land the blame there and so he’s conditioned to blame his sibling instead?

And the black sheep child just takes the criticism and the blame and learns to become overly defensive, because he’s learned no one will watch his back but himself, not even his sibling?

Oh wait it’s not a toxic family.
