This is way late posting but I was waiting to see how the organizers would handle this situation before I posted this but they have seemingly ghosted me so;
Criticisms I have about Corpus Christi Kadabracon 2024, while its evident I also had incredible experiences while there but I also feel avoiding the bad won't help anyone improve. So hear we go. First of all I knew going in this would be a tiny local con and wouldn't be perfect. I don't know how much experience the organizers have but my goal here isn't to rag on them but give some criticisms to hopefully help them think about how they can improve.
The venue was way too small. My nephew's school cafeteria was probably bigger than this room. Everything was in the same room. I assume this was the main reason as to why there were even artists placed outside. Which sucks it was 90 degrees on the coast. Inside wasn't much better, there probably was air conditioning but it was just so packed it was stuff and warm.
They originally had their event taking place at the Emerald Hotel in Corpus Christi when they changed venues to the Mansion Royal a wedding venue. They had replied to a comment on instagram why they were moving saying "the event outgrew the previous venue." Makes sense this was after they announced all the TADC cast would be there, and would have got an influx of tickets. And I was honestly happy for them because it meant this little con was earning a lot.
However this comment has since been deleted. Probably due to the fact the Emerald Hotel had 8 rooms, a total of 10,000 sq ft of Event Space while the Mansion Royal has 4,420 sq ft.
Apparently the hotel would be under construction the week of the event, makes sense they'd scramble to try and find a new venue near by in such a short amount of time and ended up getting stuck with something small but why would they lie about moving to a bigger venue? Be honest, scale down. I've never hosted an event like this but there's got to be a better way. I've been to cons before that had to change venues last minute but still had equitable room. Because everything was so packed the lanes between artists could barely fit two people. I can't imagine how much people with mobility aids had to struggle. I don't think a wheel chair could fit through there, at least not without grazing both edges of the lanes.
I keep joking about Jax and Gangle being kicked out of any place we stood in for too long because it kept happening. Understandable there was very little room. At bigger cons you'll see people sitting at the edges of rooms, against walls etc. Here that was not possible any space was taken any free space if stood in would be blocking something or someone. Our cosplays got in the way a lot, I get it. But its hard to move in those things, the lights were dim (what was up with that??) we can't see our feet, moving was more of a hassle than not in most places, here moving or not moving were both bad decisions!
One of these times included was for the TADC Q&A panel. Again I get it there was no room. When I had asked if there was any place we could stand, or if we should just leave I was ignored. I would've preferred being told "sorry, leave" over being ignored. When we went to the only spot we could find it was too far to hear anything. My cosplay partner was kind enough to let me go find a seat while she stayed behind but it wasn't even 2 minutes when we were told to move again.
I had purchased VIP which means I should have gotten into this panel anyways but turns out they didn't give me a VIP badge! I spent $130 back in august, only to not even get it. I unfortunately did not notice this until we left. I'm trying to see if they can at least give me the $100 back since a weekend pass was only $30.
I wouldn't be as upset if I got my VIP exclusive items and wasn't kicked out of that panel but I didn't, and I was!
-
Update Oct 13th: I was able to get into contact and they're giving me a partial refund and the items I was suppose to get along with the VIP. The person I talked to seemed very understanding, hopefully I get this solved.
Update Nov 26th: They have not replied to my emails for the past 3 weeks. I have to admit now that after I spoke on the phone with them when I hung up I hated that because I realize they told me what they would do--not in writing--and I was like huh, that sucks. And I hate now that that happened! I'm so sure I have to have had that in writing if I want to take legal action. And admittedly that's a lot of work even if I do have a case here but I'm also starting to get kind of mad.
-
We had to ask 5 different people to find out how to sign up for the cosplay contest the last one didn't know they tried to find someone who did, only to just find the sign up sheets by happenstance. How is it 5 different people didn't know where this was. Each time we were told to find "so-n-so he knows," Thanks I don't know who that is.
There was not any water stationed. No outside food or drink was allowed. I'm not exactly sure if its even legal to have that many people in one place and not have water available. There was a food truck outside that was it, it was small enough that going out to get some wasn't big of a deal and there was no room to put water even if they wanted but sheesh.
There was a vendor who was selling stolen art, AND AI generated art. They had stickers but when looking through them it was very apparent these were all done by different artists. I didn't get a good look at the rest of the stuff but my cosplay partner told me it looked like AI generated stuff (Update: from several other attendees and artists there, have also agreed it was generated). We were probably not the only ones who noticed as he kept trying to get attention to their booth getting people to buy but everyone was kind of awkwardly passing over.
Bad enough as it is but extra sucks especially since so many artists got stationed outside or out of room when one could have had that space.
Its a small con I can understand maybe some of these things slip through the cracks, I've seen bigger cons accidentally accept vendors who are selling stolen art (even before the AI Gen stuff became a thing) but the last thing really makes me question this and its that I'm 98% sure the art on the badge was AI generated.

I would love to be proven wrong and have the artist come forward and just say the rushed and that's why some parts look uber weird.
This is already bad enough as it is, but they actually had an art contest for their badges. The only innocent explanation I can come up with is one of their contestants entered was AI generated and they just didn't notice. But I just don't know and even then I'm sure people have noticed and they haven't said a thing.
I have had some talks with several other people both artists who were there or attendees how had a mass of problems too. And I'm so fussed about it.
Again if they just made a public saying sorry that sucked, we'll do better next time, I'd take it but they haven't, and they're ignoring me, and short of getting lawyers involved I'm not sure else what to do other than to write a sad little post about it!

Hey Alice! Really random question but what cons happen in Toronto besides fan expo? (Specifically looking for June augest ones) I swear there’s more. I’m not sure who else to ask this or where to find con information haha. Alternatively do you know of con information in Vancouver canada? Thank you
hi! fellow torontonian spotted 🫡🫵
for large scale anime/gaming/geek cons in toronto, there's: - toronto comic con (march)* - toronto game expo (march) - anime north (may) - anime fiesta (july) - beware as i heard this one is not great for events but maybe they'll improve, smaller event - fan expo (aug)* - furnal equinox (march) - toronto game expo (nov) * good luck applying to these bc the rebooking rate is INSANE and you will also be out a $800 deposit for a whole year
yeah............. toronto has a huge population but as you can see there's really not much in the summer LMAO which is why these few cons are really important to us. and canadians opt to travel for cons during the mid summer season. americans have it good haha. here are some other popular ones: - g anime (jan, gatineau QC) - yeti con (june, blue mountain ON) - ai kon (july, winnipeg MB) - animethon (aug, edmonton AB) - otakuthon (aug, montreal QC) usually same weekend - the only out of province event i attend currently, i really like otakuthon and personally i did really well, but i have heard from others that the profits this year were not as good as last year. (keep in mind the small business culture is huge and competitive right now) - london comic con (sept, london ON) during off-peak season there are also a few markets (bamtori studio has been hosting them every few months and they're so goated!!!), there've been more buzz on markets in recent years as the small business scene boomed. personally i don't think my art suits markets demographic so i don't apply for them/ this post will not cover markets. vancouver events: - anime revolution (aug) usually same weekend as animethon and otakuthon. i have heard conflicting opinions on anirevo so please do your own research on this con. rebooking rate is crazy. - fan expo vancouver (feb) for any informa canada run events, be aware the rebooking rate is extremely high. - emerald city comic con (march) - forgive me for putting an american con here
if i had to travel to the west coast id pick emerald city comic con, i heard it's pretty good to travel out to (and the other ones id have no chance of getting in anyways) if anything i know about these events through hearsay and by googling ahaha. if a con is good then more artists will recommend them generally. you can also join artist alley network international (AANI, you can google them for the application to their discord). personally im not sure how long ill be doing cons as i've been putting off working on my animation portfolio for so long (animation is kind of grim rn so a lot of us have been relying on cons)... and im not sure if ill travel beyond montreal next year... but yeah... hope this helps!

The Eldritch Druid - a Jaheira build
"War is an old woman's game."
Jaheira is a Circle of the Land Druid and Eldritch Knight Fighter, relying on spells and swords to get the job done. The High Harper can certainly hold her own.
[check out my other builds!]
Gameplay Notes
We’re leaning heavy into the build disclaimer I mention at the end of all my posts with this one. My priorities with this build are to get as close as I can to Jaheira’s original character… which was designed for 2e DnD and is basically nonfunctional in 5e. The best, most optimized multiclasses with Druid and Fighter all use the Circle of Spores subclass, but I will very much not be doing that (more on that in the Lore section at the end). Basically, this build is objectively not very good, but it feels right and that’s what I care most about.
Stats and Leveling
Final build: Level 7 Circle of the Land Druid, Level 5 Eldritch Knight Fighter
Jaheira’s (default) stats: STR 10 / DEX 14 / CON 14 / INT 8 / WIS 17 / CHA 12
Level 1 - Fighter Level 1
Fighting Style: Two Weapon Fighting
Level 2 - Fighter Level 2
Action Surge [nice]
Level 3 - Fighter (Eldritch Knight) Level 3
Cantrips: Ray of Frost and Shocking Grasp
1st Level Spells: Shield, Magic Missile, and Longstrider [these will use INT as the spellcasting modifier, so make sure not to pick something that uses the spellcasting modifier]
Level 4 - Fighter (Eldritch Knight) Level 4
Feat: ASI+ DEX>16
1st Level Spells: Burning Hands
Level 5 - Fighter (Eldritch Knight) Level 5
Extra Attack [now we’re at two main hand attacks and an off hand attack]
Level 6 - Druid Level 1
Cantrips: Guidance and Thorn Whip
1st Level Spells
Level 7 - Druid (Circle of the Land) Level 2
Wild Shape
Cantrips: add Resistance
Level 8 - Druid (Circle of the Land) Level 3
2nd Level Spells [would recommend Spike Growth]
Land Type: Coast
Level 9 - Druid (Circle of the Land) Level 4
Feat: Alert
Cantrips: add Produce Flame
Level 10 - Druid (Circle of the Land) Level 5
Wild Strike [aka Extra Attack but for Wild Shape]
3rd Level Spells [Plant Growth is my favorite]
Land Type: Coast
Level 11 - Druid (Circle of the Land) Level 6
Wild Shape: Panther [Jaheira famously loves turning into a Panther]
Level 12 - Druid (Circle of the Land) Level 7
4th Level Spells [the levels in Eldritch Knight will mean a total spellcaster level of 8, fyi]
Items
Armor - Armour of Agility (3 Stormshore Armoury) or Sharpened Snare Cuirass (2 Moonrise Towers) [pick which you think looks the coolest - one leans more into fighter aesthetic, and one more into druid aesthetic. they both have the Exotic Material property, and the other bonuses aren’t central to the build]
Melee Weapon -
Belm (3 Jaheira’s Basement) [this weapon is from previous games, fyi]
Sylvan Scimitar (2 Jaheira) [she’s already holding it!]
Ranged Weapon - Spellthief (1 Emerald Grove) [ok don’t judge me - obviously, this is a weak pick, but I tend not to stack my most powerful items on Jaheira… :/ sorry!]
Amulet - Khalid's Gift (3 Jaheira’s Basement)
Helmet - Helmet of Arcane Acuity (2 Mason Guild’s Basement) [this is not an Arcane Acuity build, so if you want to put it on another party member, do it — it’s not essential to the build at all. another option that will help the Eldritch Knight spells using INT is the Warped Headband of Intellect (1 Blighted Village). I also like the vibe of Scabby Pugilist Circlet (3 Rivington) and Browbeaten Circlet (2 Moonrise Towers) for Jaheira]
Ring 1 - Ring of Elemental Infusion (1 Crèche Y'llek)
Ring 2 - Explorer’s Ring (1 Dread Hollow) [not a great pick, but seems like the type of thing Jaheira would like]
Gloves - Unwanted Masterwork Gauntlets (3 Forge of the Nine) [something about these gauntlets feels SO Jaheira to me, I can’t get over it]
Boots - Boots of Elemental Momentum (1 Rosymorn Monastery Trail) or Boots of Genial Striding (1 Myconid Colony) [again, a fighter aesthetic option and a druid aesthetic option - I’m partial to the druid!]
Cloak - Vivacious Cloak (2 Grand Mausoleum)
Lore and Flavor
Jaheira is one of the most recognizable characters from previous games of Baldur’s Gate. ln the decades in real life and century in game, she has changed a lot in BG3 — and so has Dungeons & Dragons as a whole.
Multiclassing in DnD 2e is a whole different ballgame than multiclassing in 5e. Without diving into too many 2e mechanics, it was essentially possible to be fully leveling both classes at once, without missing much when compared to monoclass characters. These mechanics made Jaheira’s Fighter/Druid multiclass not only functional, but strong.
In 5e, multiclassing necessitates foregoing powerful abilities, and so multiclass builds that shine are the ones with high levels of synergy — which Fighter and Druid do not have. And yes, I recognize that Circle of Spores Druid functions better in melee than Circle of Land or Circle of Moon, but absolutely no line of dialogue from Jaheira from the past, present, or future would suggest that she should be a Circle of Spores Druid, and I cannot accept using that subclass. So we’re left with a disappointing lack of synergy.
At the risk of undervaluing Jaheira and getting way too meta, there is an argument to be made that her sticking with a build that is outdated and underutilized makes character sense, given her age and years spent as a high-profile adventurer.
Eldritch Knight might seem like an odd choice, given how strong Battle Master is. To be completely honest, adding Manoeuvres into Jaheira’s repertoire makes a lot of sense, given her background as a leader and commander. The reason I went with Eldritch Knight was basically just to have access to utility spells that would help plug the gap for a few of this build’s main weaknesses. If you wanted to use Battle Master instead, very little of the rest of the build would change. Also, I never played 2e so I might be wrong, but my understanding is that subclasses are a more recent creation, so there isn’t an obvious answer regardless.
[check out my build disclaimer for info about how and why I don't min/max or completely optimize builds, prioritizing lore and vibe instead]

Until I Met You - Chapter 22
Chapter 22: A Dim Light Among Shadow
Pairings: Halsin x Tav
Word count: 4,537
Rating: Currently M, will be Explicit in later chapters.
Read on AO3
Previous Next
Summary: Tav finally gets a chance to speak with Jaheira, a chance she's waited a century for. A couple of unwanted visitors stir up some trouble. Part 22 of the slow burn fic. Tav and Halsin POVs.
Tags: Slow burn, mutual pining, hurt/comfort, emotional hurt/comfort, fluff, eventual love confessions, eventual smut, angst, implied past rape/non-con and abuse, graphic description of injuries, brief suicidal thoughts.
A/N: Given that Last Light is such a concentrated quest area, some parts of the story will be introduced later so I can keep the pacing manageable. But don't worry! All major events will be covered just a little differently than you may expect.
Tav took in the sight of Last Light Inn. The establishment was a refuge of sorts for those fighting against Ketheric Thorm all those years ago. She only ever saw it in passing. Their squad stayed on the outskirts of the fighting, only making their way closer to Moonrise Towers on that last day of battle.
The hearth in the middle of the main floor crackled, casting shadows across the stone walls. A few tieflings stood near the fire warming their hands, one of them was the bard she had met in the Emerald Grove. But something was wrong, her eyes were puffy like she had been crying. Tav went to take a step toward her, but Jaheira called out to her first.
“I hope our humble abode is to your liking.” Jaheira stood at a nearby table holding two glasses of wine.
“It’s certainly more than I had expected to find here. You’ll hear no complaints from me.” She smiled as she walked over to stand across from her. The High Harper gestured to the seat in front of her, beckoning her to sit. She followed suit once Tav had settled.
“Please, have a drink with me.” She pushed a glass filled with wine towards her. Tav went to take a sip but caught a hint of something that didn’t quite mix with the fruity bouquet.
Klauthgrass.
Not poisonous, just known to elicit the truth.
Jaheira gave her a knowing smile. “It doesn’t spoil the taste, you have my word. I would never ruin a fine vintage even for the sake of questioning.”
Tav smirked and took a large drink of the wine. She trusted Jaheira, and she had nothing to hide from her. The High Harper gave an approving nod before taking a sip from her own glass.
“Tell me – why have you come here?” Jaheira started.
“To infiltrate the Absolute cult and discover its secrets. Hopefully get rid of this tadpole while we’re at it.”
“What do you know about the cult?”
“Just what I told you when we first arrived. We know mind flayers are capturing people all along the Sword Coast and infecting them. What we don’t know is why.”
“I have traced them all the way from Baldur’s Gate. It is spreading throughout the city, precisely, deliberately, and with frightening speed.” Her words were laced with concern, a nervous edge clung to her voice.
“The cult started in Baldur’s Gate?” Tav tried to hide the anxiety creeping into the back of her mind.
A black hand on a gold cufflink. Slave logs in the Underdark bearing that same mark.
“I am not sure yet, that is why we are here.” She took a quick glance around the room. “We tracked them back to Moonrise only to stare into the eyes of a man we killed and buried over a century ago.”
Tav’s heart dropped, she knew who this mystery man was before Jaheira dared utter his name.
“General Ketheric Thorm. Remember that name.”
“That is not possible.” Her voice was a croaking whisper.
Ketheric Thorm lives.
“I put an arrow through his eye myself.” Jaheira assured her. “He pulled it from his skull like it was a leaf blown into his hair by a gentle summer breeze. It seems Shar’s paladin has gained immortality for himself.”
The room spun around Tav. Her only consolation from the last one hundred years was that Ketheric Thorm was defeated, and now he was back? And immortal?
She shook her head, blinking away tears that threatened to spill down her cheeks.
“With your help though, perhaps we can kill him. For good this time.”
“How?” Tav barely choked the word out.
“You can pose as a True Soul, infiltrate Moonrise as one of their own. If you can get in and find the source of his invulnerability, we could take it away.”
Tav smirked. “I shall do no less.”
The words were out of her mouth before she could stop them. I shall do no less. A response given by Harper initiates when they’re sworn in to the organization.
Jaheira once again studied her. Her eyes searched Tav’s face for any familiar feature to identify her by, once again landing on her tattoo. The same tattoo that she would have seen on Tev’aron’s throat.
“Have we…met before?”
“I’m afraid not.” She glanced around, making sure her companions were still preoccupied around the inn. “I was a Harper once, but never under your command, unfortunately.”
“I see. But you are a Harper no more?”
“Not since the last time I visited these lands. I was part of the last squad called in from Amn.”
They locked eyes for a moment, the guilt and sadness remaining unspoken between them, yet with complete understanding.
“Well, I am glad to see you made your way back to us, despite the circumstances.”
“I wonder if I might ask you a question.” She heard her voice crack.
“It’s only fair.” Jaheira took another sip of her wine.
“My brother was fighting for you that day.”
“That is not a question, my new friend.”
Tav gathered all her strength to speak again.
“His name was Tev’aron Mendelre.” She whispered the words, careful to make sure no one else could hear. “I wanted to know if you ever heard from him after…”
Jaheira’s eyes softened, a look of realization spreading over her face at the mention of his name.
“You’re Tav’ahria Mendelre?”
“Just…” She looked around the room with nervous eyes. “It’s just Tav. The others…they don’t know of my family. And I’d like to keep it that way.”
“I can’t say I blame you for hiding that.” She snorted, Jaheira was a Baldurian herself and would be plenty familiar with her house.
“Jaheira, please. If you know what happened…” Tav felt the tears burning in her eyes already. “I’ve spent a century without answers, it’s been agony.”
“I remember your letter. I could not quite put into words the things I witnessed that day. Yes, your brother fought with me. He was by my side until the very end when that terrible darkness sprung forward from the Thorm Mausoleum. I lost sight of him somewhere among the shadows. A couple of us fell behind, and he went back for them. I…I didn’t see him again after that.”
She didn’t know what other answer she expected.
“Thank you. At least now I know.” Tav sniffled and wiped the tears from her eyes before they could fall.
“I would not dare to give you false hope, Tav’ahria. By some miracle, he could have made it out another way, or found a suitable location to wait out the worst of the curse. But I just don’t know. I can only tell you what I saw, and that I know he never returned to our ranks.” She set her wine glass down and folded her hands on the table in front of her.
“It was a fool’s hope anyway. The hope of a naïve little girl wanting her big brother to come rescue her again.” Tav swirled her glass, wishing that she could drown herself in the small vortex created by her movement.
“For what it’s worth,” Jaheira reached over to take her hand, “he spoke of you often. He loved to embarrass the archers in our company with tales of your prowess with a bow. Given what we are up against, I truly hope those boasts were well earned.”
“I hope so too.” Tav stood up and took her hand back. “I should find the others, we have quite the job ahead of us.”
“Before you leave, go upstairs to visit Isobel. She’s the cleric maintaining the moon shield that surrounds Last Light. She will make sure you can pass through the shadows until a more permanent solution can be found.”
“Thank you, Jaheira. I’m very glad to finally meet you.”
“And I you, Tav.”
“We’ll plan to set up a camp nearby. I don’t want us to be a burden on your already strained resources.” Tav took a deep breath to calm herself. “I’ll be sure to check in often, though.”
“As you wish. Know that the doors of Last Light will always be open to you and yours.”
“And our campfire will always be open to you as well.” Tav gave a small nod as she turned away.
Before she could gather her thoughts again, Karlach came running up to her, grabbing her by the shoulders. Wyll wasn’t far behind.
“Hey, soldier. We have a problem.”
“Turns out a bunch of our tiefling friends have been taken captive at Moonrise Towers. They were ambushed by cultists on their way to Baldur’s Gate.” Wyll was breathing heavily, like he had been running.
“Shit.” Tav cursed as she looked around the inn.
So not only did they need to infiltrate Moonrise disguised as True Souls, but now they’d need to sneak prisoners out as well.
If they’re still alive.
Tav suddenly realized the faces that were missing, among them the young girl, Arabella, that they rescued from Kagha. Come to think of it, she hadn’t seen Zevlor either.
Gale’s voice from behind her drew her attention away. Another voice joined his, familiar, smooth as a honeyed mead, perfect for hiding the poison underneath.
Raphael sat at a small table with a game of Lanceboard laid out on its surface. Mol sat across from him.
“I was right to make you the offer I did.” He gave a low chuckle to the young tiefling. "You will consider it, won’t you?”
“Make a habit of crawling from the hells to play games with children?” Tav walked over with her arms crossed.
“You wound me!” Raphael threw a hand over his chest in feigned shock. “I never crawl, from the hells or otherwise. It’s so hard to get the dirt from this mortal realm out of my embroidery, you see.” He flashed that handsome, unnerving smile at her as the rest of her adventuring party gathered behind her.
Tav gave a derisive snort. “Care to share why you’re here sniveling after a battered group of refugees?”
“What better place to make a deal? But all in good time, little flower.” Raphael’s tease caused her to snap her head forward. The others would see his jab as just another little feigned piece of flattery. Part of her wanted to brush it off as the same, just a coincidence as he tried to charm his way into a contract for their souls. But she knew better. Raphael was annoying and troublesome, but he was also clever and knew far more than he had any right to. He winked at her before turning his attention to Astarion.
“I can sense there’s something you want to discuss.”
Their party’s eyes all landed on their pale friend, who began to shift his weight back and forth under their gaze.
“Yes, I have a proposal for you.”
Tav inhaled a sharp breath at his words. Raphael started on more of his silver-tongued quips, but she couldn’t seem to concentrate on what he was saying.
“Someone carved well…something into my back. I’d like to know what the scars say.” Astarion’s voice brought her back.
“Astarion?” She furrowed her brow as he averted his gaze to the floor. “What scars?”
“Oh? You haven’t told them? And how unlike you to keep your clothes on, spawn.” With a snap of the devil’s fingers, Astarion’s shirt disappeared from his body, now sitting in a crumpled pile at Raphael’s feet.
Everyone gasped as their eyes found his back. Tav recalled that morning in the Underdark when she had felt the raised bumps under his shirt, but she would have never assumed something like these meticulously carved runes.
Three circles of script carved into his flesh with one additional sigil sitting in the middle. At the bottom, long scars dripped down his back, cut to look like a line of blood running down his spine. It almost looked like a poem, or an incantation of some kind, but the language was unfamiliar to her if that was the case. By the shape of the scars, they must have been carved into him multiple times.
It would have been excruciating.
Suddenly, her time with her father and Noravi seemed like a pleasant daydream. He had spoken of Cazador Szarr only a little, but Tav assumed he was the cause of this cruel masterpiece.
“Astarion…” She reached out for his shoulder, but he flinched away from her, looking ashamed.
“Ah, yes. Such talent, such skill, went into carving these runes.”
“Runes?!” Astarion snapped back. Raphael gave a few taunting tuts with his tongue.
“So eager. Don’t worry, I’m motivated to help you. I’ll be in touch with my terms, vampling.” He gave a final wink before puffing away into thin air.
Astarion let out a frustrated grunt as he stared at the spot Raphael had been standing. When he turned to face them, he couldn’t meet their stares.
“Well, now you know.”
“I’m sorry, Astarion.” Tav walked over to pick up his shirt still in a small heap on the floor. “I didn’t know he would–”
“It’s fine.” He snapped back as he snatched the shirt from her hands.
“Why is it written in infernal?” Karlach had her head cocked to the side as Astarion got dressed.
“What?” Astarion’s hands flew up to his back, tracing some of the lines. “I…I don’t know.”
“Well here, maybe I could–” Karlach reached for his back, but he jumped away from her.
“No!” He flinched back, almost crouching into a defensive position. “I…”
His eyes darted between all of them, clouded with a sudden terror that made Tav’s chest ache.
“Just forget it. We need to get moving, aren’t there people you need to rescue?” He pushed a few curls out of his eyes and back into place on top of his head.
She didn’t press him, just gave him a small reassuring smile.
“Before we do anything, we need to go see the cleric upstairs. She’s the one who created the moon shield, and she can protect us from the shadows.”
“I’m not wasting my time prattling with some moon witch.” Shadowheart rolled her eyes.
“Well, the rest of us still need some help to get through this curse. Just wait down here if it’s truly that revolting for you.” Tav returned the exasperated gesture.
“I think I’ll stay down here as well. I’d like to have a look around before we decide where to make camp.” Halsin’s eyes scanned the inn as he spoke.
Tav nodded to him as she gathered her thoughts once more. A thousand thoughts raced through her mind. Ketheric Thorm, alive. Cultists from Baldur’s Gate. Evidence that her family was tied to the cult’s slaves. The shadow curse still raging across the land.
At least for a moment, she could be grateful for the small pocket of light amongst the darkness. And they at least hit a small stroke of luck. Up those stairs, there was a little beacon of hope, someone that could maybe help them pass through the shadows.
***
Halsin sat down at a small table in the corner of the room, the same place he played cards with his peers as they awaited their next day of battle. Their last day of battle. Shadowheart stood brooding in the entryway, unhappy to be surrounded by Selûnite magic, no doubt.
His mind wandered to the short conversation with the devil. One that had apparently contacted this group once already.
But all in good time, little flower.
What did he mean by that?
The little line of flattery had caused Tav to recoil like he had bitten her. And the scars on Astarion’s back? Also, the tieflings that had been captured by the cult. Their list of problems seemed to grow with each passing day, while their list of solutions remained miserably stagnant.
But this cleric sounded promising. If anything, she could buy them some time until they could find a more permanent solution to walking among the shadows. As he sat contemplating his next steps, Jaheira walked over to take the seat across from him.
“Interesting company you keep, Archdruid.” She crossed her legs as she leaned on the table with one arm.
“It is a most unlikely group of adventurers, I’ll admit. But they did save my life, a debt I promised to repay with my aid and counsel. Regardless of their differences, they work well together.” He leaned back slightly in his chair. “And please, there’s no need for titles. I gave mine up before we left.”
“Did you?” She raised an eyebrow at him. “You do not plan on returning once our work is done?”
“I was never meant to lead,” he responded.
“Never meant to lead, or never wanted to lead?”
“Are the two mutually exclusive?”
“Not always. But you seem wise enough, and your reputation speaks for itself. Did you not plan on returning, or do you think you will not be given the opportunity to do so?” Her eyes peered into his very soul.
“Well, it is a dangerous task we have ahead of us. I needed to make sure the Emerald Grove would be in good hands.”
“Yes, those of us who bore witness to the birth of these shadows seem doomed to return and experience them once more.” Her eyes flitted up to the balcony above their heads where the others were meeting with the cleric.
“Not surprising, considering how few of us are left.” Halsin took a shaky breath. “Besides, we have a duty to this land, do we not? To finish what we started?”
“Ah, so this is the real reason the Archdruid has returned to Moonrise.” She looked away for a moment. “It shames me to say the curse is no longer my priority. I cannot concentrate on healing this land at the expense of all of Faerûn. The cult must take priority.”
“You owe me no explanation for your motives, Jaheira. Regardless, this task is mine alone. I do not ask anyone to dedicate their precious time towards it.”
“Yours alone?”
“Yes, I cannot–” Halsin was cut off by a sudden roaring scream from above them.
Huge, winged monstrosities came crashing into the inn, some through the roof, others came flying through the entrance.
“What in the nine hells?!” Jaheira jumped up from her seat and called her Harpers to arms. Halsin wild shaped into his favored bear form and charged at one of the horrors. It took off, grabbing one of the tiefling children, Mol, before flying through the hole in the roof again.
From this angle, he couldn’t see up past the balcony where the others had gone. But from the sound of it, there was a raging battle upstairs as well. A few of the refugees had been knocked unconscious, and a small group of the children huddled together in a corner. Halsin hovered protectively near the kids, swiping at any of the monsters that came rushing at them. Just before one of them could land a clawed swipe in his back, a large black panther came diving at it. Jaheira sunk her wild shaped teeth into the creature’s neck and pinned it to the floor.
Another loud yell from upstairs followed by a cry of pain. He couldn’t tell who it belonged to. Harpers from outside came running into the inn to provide additional support. All of a sudden, a clatter sounded above them, and two bodies came crashing down from the balcony.
From the looks of it, Tav had tackled a Flaming Fist that now laid bloodied on the ground beneath her. Did he have…wings? He laid there taking ragged breaths, blood poured from his mouth and nose. Tav grabbed a small dagger from her belt and drove it into the Fist’s eye, causing his body to go limp.
“Tav?!” Karlach yelled at her from above.
“Protect Isobel!” She shouted back with a groan. “Get the creatures away from her, any way you can!” She turned to Halsin.
“Who’s the panther?” It was rare that Tav didn’t have a spell active to allow her to speak with animals.
“You no longer recognize the High Harper just because she’s an oversized cat?” Jaheira teased back at her.
“What’s happening, Tav?” Halsin had to yell to be heard over the chaos in the inn, the sound came out as more of a growl while he took the shape of a bear.
“The cult sent them to capture Isobel. They must know she’s protecting everyone.” Tav drew her bow, but Halsin noticed the enormous effort it took for her to do so.
Arrows soared through the air, swords ripped through undead flesh as the winged horrors fell one by one. A familiar raged scream from Karlach sounded from above. A moment later, one of the horrors had landed with a crunch on the floor in front of them. Jaheira leaped over and ripped the creature’s throat to shreds.
“We’re all clear up here!” Wyll shouted down to them.
“I think that’s the last down here, too,.” Tav called back.
Halsin and Jaheira both dismissed their wild shapes.
“Where is Isobel?” Jaheira looked around the room, her frantic eyes searching every face.
“I’m here!”
A young half-elf came running down the stairs and across the room to them. Judging by her Selûnite robes, this was the cleric protecting them from the shadows. Her face was bruised, and she was out of breath, but otherwise seemed fine. To Halsin’s side, Tav was kneeling as she cradled her wrist, now bruised and swollen.
“Here, Tav.” He crouched down next to her and held out his hands. She happily offered hers, letting him inspect the injury.
The wrist didn’t look broken, likely just a sprain. Lucky considering the diving tackle she took from the second story.
“It’s just a sprain, I’ll have it better in a moment,.” Hhe assured her.
“In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have tackled him from the balcony.” She gave an uneasy chuckle.
“Nothing to worry about, my friend. I’ve become accustomed to injuries stemming from your rash behavior.” He grinned back at her as the spell slowly returned her skin to its normal hue.
“Can I be of assistance?” The young cleric stood smiling over them. “It’s the least I could do.”
“That’s quite alright, I’ve got her.” Halsin answered a little too quickly. “It’s kind of you to offer, though.”
Tav rotated her wrist a few times after he completed the spell. “Thanks, love.”
He helped her to her feet as the others gathered around. Jaheira stood over the body of the Flaming Fist, looking troubled.
“Tav!” Karlach came running over as she laughed. “You wild woman! Tackling baddies off of balconies!” She slapped her on the back, knocking her into Halsin. Her cheeks reddened as she grabbed his shirt to keep from falling over.
“At least let me finish that protection charm for you, since we were so rudely interrupted.” Isobel raised a hand in the air and Halsin watched as the familiar silver moonlight of Selûne wrapped itself around her. The light moved from her hands to envelop himself and his companions.
“Perfect. This will help with the lesser effects of the curse, but there are places where it will not protect you. Places where the shadows are darker and hungrier.”
“Keep your silver magic off of me, moon witch.” Shadowheart sneered.
“Oh, what have we here? One of Shar’s nasty little terriers?” Isobel snapped back. Tav had to stifle a snorting laugh at Halsin’s side.
Shadowheart muttered something under her breath with a glare, a prayer of some sorts from what he could tell.
“This was no random attack.” Jaheira still stared down the bloodied body of the winged man Tav had tackled. “Marcus has been with us from the start, he would have told the cult everything.”
“We’re in more danger than I thought.” Isobel pressed a hand to her temple. “If anything were to happen to me, everyone in this inn would be dead.”
“What does the cult want with you, Isobel?” Tav was still working to catch her breath.
“I haven’t the slightest idea.” Halsin caught a small waver in her voice alongside a quick glance to the ground. He couldn’t tell if she was lying, or just battered after the fight. Given that Last Light was the only place safe from the shadows though, he opted to give her the benefit of the doubt.
“The winged man said that this Keth-er-ic wanted you alive. Why take you alive if they simply wish to wipe out the people here?” Lae’zel asked.
Ketheric…no. That is not possible.
“Ketheric?” Halsin whispered as he felt invisible walls close in around him. Tav looked up at him apologetically.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t get a chance to tell you.” She placed a hand on his arm. “He’s alive, Halsin.”
“And immortal, it would seem,” Jaheira added.
“No. No, we watched him be sealed into that mausoleum. There were runes and magic and…” His hands started shaking.
“And it would seem whatever curse he unleashed negated those entirely.” Jaheira continued addressing the others as Halsin spiraled into despair.
Ketheric Thorm still lived. Everything they fought for, everything they lost…it was all for nothing.
Not only did the shadows still consume the land of Moonrise, but Shar’s paladin was leading a cult of people infected with mind flayer tadpoles. He squeezed his eyes shut and clenched his jaw, hoping this was nothing more than a terrible nightmare from which he could force himself awake.
But when he opened his eyes, he still found himself in Last Light Inn. Jaheira still stood giving orders and assignments. Tav was still by his side, one arm looped around his. She looked deeply concerned as she turned to face him.
“Halsin? Halsin?” She called out to him, but he could barely make out the words.
He took his arm back and stormed from the inn, desperate to run and feel some semblance of relief from the grief gripping his chest. Tav continued to yell after him, but he kept walking. Once he reached the edge of the moon shield near the lake, he let go. The beast came ripping forth, bringing him to all fours.
Halsin ran to the water’s edge and let out a roar. At least in this form he didn’t have to worry about choking back his tears. He could snarl and rage and fall apart, but no tears would fall from these eyes to stain his face. No creeping redness on his face and chest would betray his anger. The chill of the darkness surrounding him had a harder time penetrating the thick layer of fur.
He wanted nothing more than to allow himself to be consumed with anger and sorrow. To claw into the earth beneath him until he collapsed from exhaustion. Instead, he simply curled up in the damp dirt and laid his head atop his paws. He recited the precious ritual in his head over and over again. Once again reaching out to Silvanus, praying, pleading, hoping that this time he could hear his voice again. …Silence.

I think she’s going to show up at Emerald City con AND Burbank. Pretty sure she’s already on the west coast. She’s obsessed with the idea of “bumping into” Misha (because he won’t come to her) so she’s putting herself near wherever she thinks he’s going to be to manipulate it into happening (then she can claim it was meant to be” like she tried to do at that first convention she went to. She was hanging around the bathrooms near where Misha was and “bumped into him” and tried to make it sound like a miracle. “Oh my god what are you doing here! Such a coincidence!” Like she could be lurking outside his house and be like “OMG you live here?! What a coincidence! I just felt DRAWN to this particular street! Sooo weird!”) 🙄
I read that post she did about "bumping" into him. I fkn laughed hard

Should You Visit Ireland Alone or With Loved Ones?

Exploring Ireland offers a magical experience whether you venture solo or with loved ones. Solo travelers relish the freedom to wander through landscapes and quaint villages at their own pace, finding camaraderie in friendly local pubs. Meanwhile, those journeying with partners or families create cherished memories against the backdrop of breathtaking cliffs and historic castles.
Sheenco Travel tailors exceptional Irish vacation packages that cater to your preferred travel companionship style, ensuring an unforgettable Irish adventure tailored just for you.
Solo Travel Perks in Ireland
Traveling alone in Ireland offers unparalleled freedom and simplicity. You’ll find the country’s transport system a breeze to navigate, with comprehensive bus and rail networks weaving through picturesque landscapes while ensuring connectivity across regions. Bus Eireann provides extensive routes with user-friendly online ticket purchases or station-buy options for ease of travel, including an attractive 6-day unlimited pass perfect for swift exploration.
Day tours flourish here; they’re ideal if you prefer not to delve into solo car rental. These excursions not only introduce you to famed sights like The Cliffs of Moher but also present opportunities to bond with fellow adventurers over shared experiences, possibly sparking lifelong friendships like mine forged on a Dublin day tour. Consider Irish adventures that blend autonomy with friendly encounters.
Exploring With Loved Ones: Pros & Cons
Traveling through Ireland with loved ones enriches the experience as you share breathtaking views like Wicklow’s high mountains or McGillycuddy’s Reeks. Imagine walking together along west coast cliffs, gazing at the Atlantic Ocean, and sailing serene lakes such as Lough Erne. Discover Gaelic culture on idyllic islands collectively.
A trip to Northern Ireland offers couples a chance to brave the Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge hand-in-hand or explore Giant’s Causeway together, an unforgettable memory. However, coordinating group preferences may limit spontaneity. Differing interests could complicate plans when deciding whether to attend the lively TradFest in Dublin or savor seafood during Galway’s Oyster Festival. Castle visits appeal universally yet might need scheduling balance against individual pursuits for history buffs within your party.
Choose your companions wisely. Those who enjoy festive atmospheres and historical wealth ensure everyone relishes exploring regal castles without schedule clashes disrupting harmony amongst travelers.
Customized Ireland Itineraries for Individuals
Crafting your Irish adventure ensures a journey tailored to your interests. Whether you’re an avid hiker hungry for the rugged trails of Connemara or a history buff longing to delve into ancient castles, custom itineraries cater specifically to you. With personalized tours, explore at your pace without the constraints group travel imposes.
Focus on culinary experiences with an itinerary dotted with local food havens if that’s what tickles your fancy. Travel advisors are key in shaping these unique experiences. They excel in translating individual preferences into bespoke agendas full of authentic cultural immersion and exclusive visits off the beaten path that standard packages might overlook. They provide valuable insights while ensuring quality accommodation options align with each traveler’s desires and budget requirements.
Also important is timing. Visiting attractions during less crowded periods can vastly improve your experience. Ultimately, customized trips offer unparalleled flexibility, creating memorable Irish escapes that reflect who you are as a traveler.
Group Discounts on Irish Packages
Traveling to Ireland with family or friends? Dive into the charm of the Emerald Isle and save more. By booking as a group, you can access discount rates not available for solo voyagers.
Revel in tailor-made itineraries that include cozy beds and breakfasts offering warm hospitality, replete with hearty Irish breakfasts to kickstart your adventures. For transportation ease across rolling green landscapes, check bundle deals on bus passes. These allow flexibility if whimsy takes you off planned paths during village stopovers. Opt out of car rentals by using efficient public transport networks linking major sites – a budget-friendly alternative allowing everyone to relax together en route.
Lastly, try affordable day tours from city-based tour operators designed to create shared memories without breaking the bank!
Finding Companionship Amongst Irish Locals
Traveling alone in Ireland, you’ll never feel isolated. The warmth of the Irish people is palpable. Their openness to engage makes sparking a chat effortless, even for introverts. Expect brief queries to unfold into enriching dialogue. This ease with locals ensures that solo journeys are filled with companionship and shared stories rather than solitude.
Moreover, the friendly vibe seems contagious among visitors too! In pubs or on tours like Killarney’s boat and bike expeditions, fellow travelers often mirror this sociability. You’re bound not just to witness stunning views but also to form lasting friendships as like-minded explorers congregate here amidst welcoming communities.
Romantic Getaways vs Solitary Retreats
When deciding between romantic getaways with a partner or solitary retreats in Ireland, consider your preferences and goals. Journeying alone allows you to explore sights at your own pace. You choose the destinations and linger as desired without compromise.
Yet, solo travelers can join group tours for guided experiences of Ireland’s vast landscapes filled with castles and ruins. This option offers safety while satisfying the urge for independence. Conversely, traveling with someone reduces costs. Sharing expenses like accommodation lowers overall spending compared to going it alone.
It also adds companionship to memories made amidst verdant hillsides or historical streetscapes. Whether seeking solitude’s freedom or shared discovery’s warmth, tailor your Irish adventure accordingly.
Safety Considerations for Single Travelers
When traveling alone in Ireland, prioritizing safety is crucial. Choose accommodations with positive reviews for security; consider well-rated hostels or guesthouses vetted by other travelers. Keep personal belongings secure and out of sight to deter theft. Use hidden pouches for valuables like passports and cash.
Always have a charged phone with local emergency numbers saved. Inform someone trustworthy about your daily itinerary. They could be newly made friends from the area or family back home updated via messages. Before heading out, research the areas you plan to visit. Some spots may require extra caution after dark.
Lastly, invest in travel insurance. It’s essential coverage should any health issues or accidents occur during your stay.
Embarking on an Irish adventure with Sheenco Travel offers flexibility. Solo travelers find Ireland’s welcoming vibe perfect for self-discovery, while journeys shared amplify joy and create lasting bonds. Whether you seek introspection by the Cliffs of Moher or laughter-filled evenings in a Dublin pub, Sheenco tailors experience to suit your preference, solo spirit or company included.
Whichever path you choose, rest assured that either affords unforgettable moments against the tapestry of Ireland’s unparalleled beauty and charm.
