Plot twist: local biomedical engineer's least favorite science field is biology. (This makes a lot of sense you just don't see how)
#all our bio is biochem based really#and I am in engineering for physics#but I also dont need to do intense chem or bio. its all very basic stuff#I just do people oriented stuff instead of machines#ALSO for those curious#biomedical engineering is basically the field of medical devices and pharmaceuticals#so we help create all medical things#vs other engineers make like computers or bridges#I find this stuff a lot more interesting

miguel o'hara x reader (fluff) - nerdy college miguelito → she/her pronouns!
inspired by this image of him! glasses = smart
He's the sexiest mf with glasses because i said so
So intelligent! As per usual, I see him in an engineering or biochem major. Maybe statistics, or computer science minor. He's a bit of a nerd, the type that is just naturally brilliant; always asking creative questions in class. Babbles to you about his topics as a form of studying/affection; get good grades and keep his partner company.
He seems like the type that can easily learn and reteach information to you. He's a rare case where study dates actually work; you guys get so much work done.
Does that thing where he scrunches his nose to adjust his glasses. "Miguel, you're gonna get wrinkles if you do that." You remark, finishing the last of your Humanities discussion post. "So you do care for me?" Miguel smirks, tapping his pen against the table. "Just saying, you'll look 40 by the time you reach 30."
His Google Calendar is a crowded mess; at least four tasks per day, constant due dates to keep up with, he tries to save time for weekends.
Let's talk fashion! The sweatshirt he has on in the drawing has me on my knees. I'd love him in sweatshirts, straight leg jeans, big black puffer jacket, THOSE HALF-ZIP SWEATSHIRTS SO YOU CAN SEE A LITTLE BIT OF COLLARBONE, compression shirts on lucky days, possibly cargo pants??? Sometimes you guys match fits! If you dress up, he'll understand the assignment.
Carries around a black backpack, just with a laptop and an extra notebook. Hydrates with a HUGE water bottle. Keeps hairties, lip balm, and pain meds around in case you need them. (You do, often.)
College Miggy doesn't seem like the type to participate in Greek Life; he's there to get his education, start a step ahead in his career. Plus, he's too tired to go partying anyway.
It'd be super cute if y'all lived together; a dorm-to-apartment kind of thing. After your relationship's been serious for a while, you move in, sharing a room with Miguel just so you guys can split costs.
Miguel takes early morning classes, I can tell. Greets you on most days with a palm to your stomach, little kisses from behind. He latches onto you for warmth on chillier days, groaning and whining about not wanting to get up in the morning. "Mig, just go to class-" "Mmph, no." Miguel groans, ghosting his lips to the shell of your ear. He shuffles around in the bed, smothering and stealing your body of warmth. "M'cold!" You whine, Miguel's hands sneaking up your shirt.
YOU ARE the passenger princess in this AU, m'kay? (I can't drive-) Miguel, if he is available, will drive you anywhere! Class, mall, farmers market, coffee shop, etc. Ends up just tagging along with you most of the time. You think he's sexy when he's driving (because he is), slots his hand to your upper thigh like it's his birthright.
Most of the time, y'all are in your own little world; no participation in drama, celebrating each other's successes with a trip to a restaurant. Nothing else really matters when you're got both grades and each other to worry about.
Within the rare occasion that you guys share a class, y'all are on the same page. Working together, filling each other in on missing gaps, quizzing each other on tests; its great. Of course, you receive a high A. I feel like he'd be the type to randomly quiz or test you on something in the class. "Prophase vs. Anaphase? You playfully roll your eyes, continuing to stir your coffee.
Where do y'all think he'd work? I'd say paid internship or somewhere tech-y ykwim? He wouldn't really work at a cafe or campus store.
Oh my gosh what if he was rich!!!!! What if he spoils you with good food and well-thought out date nights? Elevating your relationship as a couple <333 WHAT IF HE PAYS YOUR TUITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh best man best man

Beyond the Scalpel: The Bleeding Heart of Trauma Team
When most people think of Atlus, their minds leap to demons and psyche-bending RPGs - not surgical gloves and hospital beds. But Trauma Team (Wii, 2010) is no mere medical simulator. It’s a bold narrative experiment, a multifaceted emotional thriller disguised as a hospital game. And beneath its scalpel-sharp precision lies a dark, beating heart - one that asks uncomfortable questions about what it means to heal, to sacrifice, and to carry the weight of life and death.
Six Roles, Six Moral Frontlines
Unlike its predecessors in the Trauma Center series, Trauma Team doesn’t tether the experience to one miracle-working surgeon. Instead, it fragments the perspective across six specialists: a trauma surgeon, an orthopedic surgeon, a diagnostician, a medical examiner, an EMT, and an endoscopic surgeon. Each of these characters becomes a narrative scalpel, carving away different layers of the same question: What does it mean to save a life when you're losing yourself?
CR-S01, the trauma surgeon, is introduced as a criminal stripped of his name and freedom, performing surgery as penance. He is literally healing to atone - a metaphor for how many in medicine are haunted by the past.
Naomi, the forensic examiner, interacts only with the dead. Her cold detachment becomes a shield, a coping mechanism, until even she can no longer hide from the emotional toll of her role.
Maria, the EMT, is constantly on the front lines, surrounded by chaos. Her story explores what it means to choose to step into danger when escape would be easier.
Each narrative thread forces the player to ask: Is this a job, a duty, or a punishment?
The Plague of Nihilism: Rosalia and the Delphi Virus
At the core of Trauma Team’s shared narrative is a chilling bioterror plot: the Delphi Virus, a weaponized pathogen designed not just to kill - but to infect hope itself. What makes this threat compelling isn’t the virology - it’s the philosophy.
The virus is named for the Delphi group, a reference to the ancient oracle - symbols of knowing fate, yet powerless to change it. That symbolism runs deep. The virus isn't just biochemical - it’s existential. It’s an engineered despair.
Rosalia, the girl at the center of it all, is less a patient and more a cipher. The trauma she embodies isn’t just physical - it’s the trauma of being used, reduced to a vessel, and losing her agency. Her haunting silence speaks to a darker truth: sometimes medicine fails not because the science is lacking, but because the soul is already scarred.
Diagnosis as Philosophy: Gabriel Cunningham’s Inner Battle
Dr. Gabriel Cunningham, the game's diagnostician, is one of its most layered characters. Arrogant, sarcastic, and dismissive on the surface - he hides a crushed spirit beneath the jokes. His arc is not just about solving rare diseases. It’s about confronting emotional paralysis.
His method of diagnosis plays like a mystery game, but the true mystery is him. Can someone so emotionally distant really understand what’s wrong with others? Each case is a mirror, forcing him to face the reality that clinical detachment doesn’t inoculate you from pain - it just hides the symptoms until they metastasize.
Death Is the Teacher
The forensics segments feel more like interactive grief rituals than puzzle games. You’re dissecting corpses - but also narratives. Every body Naomi examines has a story, a message that screams beneath the silence. Atlus pulls no punches in showing that even the most "routine" deaths echo with tragedy, injustice, and loneliness.
It's one of the few games that dares to say: not every life gets saved, and not every death has closure. Sometimes all you can do is witness.
Healing vs. Control
Trauma Team constantly walks the line between healing and control. It asks: are doctors just playing god with tools? Or are they the final line of defense against a world indifferent to suffering?
Even the gameplay reflects this - precision mechanics contrast with chaotic emergencies. The illusion of control collapses quickly when a flatline hits mid-surgery or a diagnosis leads to the wrong treatment. It’s not about being right - it’s about being present in the face of overwhelming odds.
Final Diagnosis: Hope Isn't Always Clean
In true Atlus fashion, Trauma Team never offers a clean ending. There is no single moment of triumph - only smaller, quieter victories: a patient stabilizing, a child rescued, a regret admitted aloud. It’s not just about curing the disease. It’s about seeing the person still standing after the trauma.
Because in this world, salvation is messy, and healing doesn’t mean you walk away unchanged.

War Form, Inf-Regen and Weremoths. Why did they not crop up during the Last Great Time War but do during the War? Also what interesting biology facts about them can you tell us?
What are Regen-Infs, Weurmoths, and War Forms?
🔫 Regen-Inf: These are biologically altered soldiers of lesser species, designed to serve in the War in Heaven. They're armed with built-in weaponry and have the ability to regenerate. Their mental makeup is also altered for war-readiness, complete with time-awareness and self-destruct protocols.
🐘 Weurmoths: Weurmoths are specialised Regen-Inf, engineered to act as field carriers for other troops. Picture a humanoid the size of an elephant that went to military school and got decked out with heavy artillery. That's a Weurmoth for you. They're big, they're loaded, but they're also unwieldy due to some laws of physics they can't ignore.
👾 War Forms: War Forms are the stuff of nightmares, engineered to look like monsters. They represent the far edge of Gallifreyan military adaptations, offering both terror and functionality in one monstrous package.
Why didn't Regen-Infs, Weurmoths, and War Forms appear in the Last Great Time War?
Well, it's anyone's guess, but here are some ideas:
Theory 1 - Ethical and Temporal Constraints: Maybe the Time Lords had moral and temporal reservations, leading them to sideline these war assets.
Theory 2 - Resource Allocation: Creating these bio-engineered warriors might have been like constructing a Rolls-Royce for every soldier - impressive but impractical and far too resource-intensive for a war that was already draining Gallifrey's reserves.
Theory 3 - Strategic Focus: The Last Great Time War possibly focused more on tried-and-true tactics at times. Perhaps the Time Lords were too busy using the old playbook.
Theory 4 - High Risks: The self-destructive and highly unstable nature of these beings could have been considered too risky to deploy in a war of such high stakes.
What are some interesting biology facts about Regen-Infs, Weurmoths, and War Forms?
🔫 Regen-Infs
High-Tech Scar Tissue: The 'scar tissue' is an organic blend of biological matter and technology. Maybe they have cells that function like nanobots + nanogenes combined, repairing and upgrading armour in real-time during combat, so every time it's hit, it grows back stronger and instantly.
Dimensional Brain Structures: Their brains are altered to have a level of 'dimensional extrusion,' enabling them to perceive time differently, an invaluable asset in war. This is likely to be a neural network that can process multiple timelines, just like Gallifreyans.
Biochemical Self-Destruct: Should a Regen-Inf soldier find themselves in a compromising position, their bio-engineered physiology can enact a self-destruct sequence. This is likely controlled by a biochemical trigger that induces an instantaneous catastrophic cellular breakdown.
Genetic Splicing: In some cases, the genes from these soldiers can interact with other species, as evidenced by Timon, born to a Regen-Inf and a human. This would involve a sort of gene editing on the fly, causing some … unexpected results.
🐘 Weurmoths
Size vs. Stability: Due to their enormous size, they likely possess specialised skeletal and muscular systems to support their mass. This could involve a lattice structure of incredibly dense but lightweight material, bio-engineered for maximum efficiency.
Firepower and Energy Consumption: Housing the firepower of a battalion means that their cells are likely akin to miniature reactors capable of generating immense amounts of energy. Their metabolism would need to be highly efficient, possibly extracting energy from unconventional sources.
Physical Instability: Maintaining bodily functions and actual movement at such a large size becomes increasingly unstable. They might have multiple redundant systems to manage this, including 'backup' organs and decentralised neural networks.
👾 War Forms
Adaptive Physiology: Their bodies could possess some sort of 'adaptive biology,' where their cellular structure can morph in real-time to counter threats. Think of it as an immune system on steroids, capable of changing the physical attributes of the entity to best handle the immediate threat.
Monstrous Design: The 'monstrous' appearance is not just for show; each aspect of their form could be engineered for a specific function. Spines might serve as both armour and weapon, while multiple limbs could offer greater dexterity and manoeuvrability.
Neurological Networks: Given that they are indistinguishable from monsters, their brain structure might be an intricate mesh of networks capable of running multiple operations at the same time. It's feasible that they could operate autonomously or in a hive-mind setting for coordinated attacks.
Genetic Backdoors: It would be reasonable to assume that they contain 'genetic backdoors,' allowing them to be controlled or disabled if they ever go off-script.
🏫 So ...
The biology of these war-time entities isn't just about splicing genes or grafting weapons onto flesh. It's about crafting organisms specifically designed for the horrors and complexities of multi-dimensional warfare. It's about crossing lines that are not just ethical, but also biological and even temporal, to create entities that are truly abominations of science.
On a lighter note, have a banana.
Related:
Is there any prejudice towards individuals stuck in war forms, during and after the war?: Perceptions of genetic alterations during and post-Time War.
Factoid: Could post-War Time Lords have biological hangups from the conflict?
Hope that helped! 😃

I can be soft and vulnerable, I am willing to let you hurt me because I love you and trust you. I know you are passionate I rediscovered part of the reason why I love you so much. Your love is discrete, inverse pun intended but both homonyms applicable in this analogy. It is private, our unique form of expression
But it is also literally discrete, like recent quantum gravity field theories I may or may not have a hand in. My mind craves clarity, more so, it craves discrete caustic lines an planes. How to use Chatgpt for Studying
Struggling with dense textbooks and endless Qbanks? You’re not alone. Many USMLE aspirants now turn to smarter tools like ChatGPT to simplify their prep. In this comprehensive guide on how to use ChatGPT to study for USMLE, you’ll discover how to transform this powerful AI into your daily tutor. Whether you're brushing up on biochem or decoding clinical cases, ChatGPT could be the secret weapon that makes the difference.

What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is an advanced AI developed by OpenAI, designed to understand and generate human-like text. Unlike traditional search engines or static websites, it can hold interactive conversations, break down complex topics, and act like a study partner who never gets tired. For medical students, especially those preparing for the USMLE Steps 1, 2 CK, and 3, this means real-time clarification, instant question generation, and concept reinforcement—on demand.
Why Use ChatGPT for USMLE Preparation?
Medical students and international graduates (FMGs) often face challenges like limited mentorship, resource overload, or difficulty understanding USMLE-specific content. Here’s where ChatGPT comes in:
✨ Key Benefits:
Instant Clarification: Stuck on nephrotic vs. nephritic syndrome? ChatGPT can break it down with analogies, diagrams, and examples.
Tailored Learning: It adapts to your level—whether you're just starting Step 1 or polishing Step 3 CCS cases.
Speed + Simplicity: Ask it to summarize, quiz you, or create visuals. It cuts through hours of reading.
Once you learn how to use ChatGPT for studying, you’ll find that it not only saves time but also builds deeper understanding through interactive dialogue.
Using ChatGPT for USMLE Step 1
Step 1 is foundational, testing your knowledge in subjects like physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, and more. It’s often viewed as the most intimidating phase. Here's how ChatGPT helps you power through:
🔍 Best Ways to Use ChatGPT for Step 1:
Explain Concepts Gradually: Prompt it with “Explain the citric acid cycle like I’m in high school,” and then follow up with, “Now explain it for USMLE level.”
Generate Mnemonics: Ask, “Create a mnemonic for cranial nerves and their functions,” and ChatGPT will return creative, memorable hooks.
Practice with Questions: Request, “Give me 10 high-yield MCQs on microbiology with detailed answers.”
Using ChatGPT for USMLE Step 2 CK
Step 2 CK emphasizes clinical reasoning and decision-making based on patient vignettes. It requires more than just recall—it tests how well you can apply knowledge in real-world scenarios.
🩺 ChatGPT Tips for Step 2 CK:
Simulate Cases: “Give me a patient case with HPI, vitals, and labs,” and then ask, “What’s the most likely diagnosis?”
Build Differentials: Provide symptoms and request a differential list. Follow with, “How do I rule each out?”
Clarify Diagnostic Steps: For topics like pulmonary embolism or diabetic ketoacidosis, ask for diagnostic workups in a flowchart format.
Example Prompt: “Simulate a 28-year-old female with RUQ pain. Include history, labs, imaging findings, and ask me to decide the next step.”
By repeatedly practicing this way, your reasoning becomes more structured, and vignettes stop feeling like puzzles.
Using ChatGPT for USMLE Step 3
Step 3 tests clinical management and your ability to prioritize care. It also includes CCS (Clinical Case Simulation) scenarios, which can be tough to practice without dedicated software.
💡 How to Use ChatGPT for Step 3:
Walk Through Full Cases: Prompt: “Walk me through a 15-minute CCS on DKA,” and follow its guidance while asking “Why?” at each step.
Treatment Algorithms: Use prompts like, “What’s the stepwise management of unstable angina?”
Prioritize Interventions: ChatGPT can help with decision-making questions: “Which is the most urgent next step?”
Pro Tip: Add a timer when running these cases with ChatGPT to simulate exam pressure.
ChatGPT Study Hacks: Smarter, Not Harder
Beyond the core prep, ChatGPT offers some game-changing hacks to accelerate your learning:
🚀 Proven Hacks:
Act Like a Professor: Prompt: “Pretend you’re a professor explaining cardiac physiology. Then quiz me.”
Flashcard Generator: Say, “Create 10 flashcards on renal pathology,” and get ready-to-use Q&As.
Condensed Notes: Use: “Summarize this First Aid page into 10 bullet points,” for fast revision sessions.
Interactive Recall: Try “Ask me 5 rapid-fire questions on antibiotics. Then explain what I got wrong.”
These tactics keep your mind active and make studying less passive and more engaged.
Limitations You Should Know
While ChatGPT is an incredibly useful companion, it isn’t a perfect replacement for all resources.
⚠️ Caution Points:
Outdated Info: Always verify answers using First Aid, UWorld, or official guidelines.
No Visuals (Yet): For now, it doesn’t show diagrams or histology slides—supplement with resources like Pathoma or Sketchy.
Exam Format: It won’t fully replicate the NBME or UWorld style unless you prompt it specifically.
So, think of ChatGPT as your tutor, not your test simulator.
Ethical Use for Medical Students
As future healthcare professionals, ethical usage is key:
✅ Use ChatGPT to enhance understanding, not bypass learning.
❌ Never use it during exams or assessments.
✅ Combine it with trusted resources and mentorship.
This helps build habits aligned with the values of medical professionalism.
Conclusion
Preparing for the USMLE can be overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be. When you learn how to use ChatGPT for studying, you're unlocking a dynamic, personalized, and time-saving study tool. Whether you’re revising for Step 1’s foundational concepts, drilling clinical vignettes for Step 2 CK, or walking through emergency scenarios for Step 3, ChatGPT adapts to your needs.
Used ethically and strategically, ChatGPT isn’t just a chatbot—it becomes your daily tutor, quiz master, and study buddy. Add it to your prep toolkit, and watch your confidence—and scores—grow. For more details visit https://usmlestrike.com/total-cost-of-usmle-journey/

i don't buy when in fics his name dislike is explained because it's an old-fashioned or stuffy name, because leo is a perfectly normal fine name. i've known people who have changed their name to leo when transitioning gender bc it's a good name. i love your 'why didn't he use james' question, i've never thought about that
(In reference to this post.)
Hi there, anon!
I agree. He easily could have gone by Leo and not turned any heads. We COULD have had an Agent Fitz who is usually called by his last name for professional reasons, and when he is called by his first name, he cringes and says he prefers to go by Leo. That would be a very reasonable scenario. And that’s why AO3 has him listed as Leo Fitz, and most of the early FitzSimmons fics (including some of mine) had Leo becoming a thing. But it didn’t turn out that way at all!
Instead, we have this:
Donnie: Agent Fitz, sir.Fitz: Oh please, call me Fitz.
It’s a comedic moment because he SHOULD say, “Call me Leo.” But that’s not what he wants to be called.
And when Jemma DOES call him Leo, it’s clear that she does it on purpose to mess with him. So, he doesn’t like being called Leo, and has been vocal about it at some point.
Interestingly, though, he doesn’t ever have a problem with being called Leopold, which is what AIDA calls him. It’s clearly not his preference, but he’s not upset by it. So I don’t think its Leopold that’s the problem, really, I think it’s Leo.
I think the key clue to why he hates Leo is that it’s what his father calls him. In the Framework, he and his father are in an toxic-but-close relationship, so he doesn’t mind the name. In reality, where his father abused him and left, he hates it. So I think it’s fair to say that he hates Leo because it’s what his father called him.
And, if Leopold is uncool and Leo reminds you of your abusive father, Fitz seems like a great choice.
Honestly, I don’t think we should read too much into the James thing, because for all we know, the writers never thought up a middle name for him until they needed it in that scene. I just think it’s interesting that he had this OTHER choice all along. Could you imagine an AU where everything is the same, except Fitz occasionally goes by Jim? It’s a minor change, but it would make a big difference for the character. But Jim is so similar to Jemma that it would come close to violating the One Steve Limit Rule, so it wouldn’t really work. It’s just interesting to think about.
Our perception of a person IS shaped, in part, by what their name is, even though the name you are given has more to do with your parents’ preferences than it has to do with you. Fitz probably just felt like the name Fitz suited him better, which tells you a lot about him once you realize what other choices he had on the table.

Team Engineering and Team Biochem!
In order to be able to kick off EvB, we need you to select a Team Captain!
Although the challenge hasn’t officially started yet, this is a critical part of EvB. Your leader will be your main squeeze throughout the hiatus events, posting challenge reminders and updates, organizational and motivational posts.
Because their role is so important, we would like as much participation as possible for this event, so we will be awarding you points for this!
Team leadership will work differently than last year:
Each team will have ONE Team Captain who will work closely and directly with @fitzsimmonsy (TFSN mod) to coordinate events, make sure things run smoothly, etc.
There will be a Team Lieutenant, who will be the help and back up the Team Captain needs
Voting Process:
For Team Biochem, you will be voting between @ughfitz, @etoilesdeglaceand @marvelouswhovianfairytales
For Team Engineering, you will be voting between @mrsdecaestecker, @ifwehadamonkey, @leopoldfitzsimmons and @fitzsimmonsforlife
To vote:
Go HERE if you’re Team Biochem and fill out the Typeform
Go HERE if you’re Team Engineering and fill out the Typeform
(To explain the choice options: First choice votes receive 2 points, and Second choice votes receive 1 point for total calculations.)
The person for each team with the most votes will be Team Captain, the runner-up will be Team Lieutenant
You have until July 5th, midnight PST to vote
Team Captains and Lieutenants will be posted on July 6th, and Captains will be contacted to discuss organizational matters.
The full team rosters with these updated rankings will be released on July 10th from the @teamengineering and @teambiochem blogs, as the challenge will officially begin then
Points:
Voting earns you 5 points
Given the incredible amount of work this position takes, this year:
Team Captains will get 300 points towards their personal score
Team Lieutenants will get 100 points towards their personal score
Good luck to all of you and have fun!
As always, please message us if you have any comments, questions or concerns.

AoS Rewatch - 2x07 The Writing on the Wall
MACK: I've seen some messed-up stuff in my day, Turbo, but nothing quite like that. Holding down the director like he's possessed... FITZ: Yeah, well, what happened... that's not... wasn't his fault. MACK: I know. Someone jumbled his memories. FITZ: No, his memories weren't jumbled. They were... replaced. Just some of them. MACK: You're up. FITZ: No, I'm okay. MACK: Nah, come on. It's good for you. Helps your brain and hands learn to get their act together. Replaced memories, jumbled memories... how the hell is he supposed to keep everything together? What if he forgets what team he's on? You know, I like my bosses un-jumbled at all times. FITZ: Yeah, he is, or he will be. He'll recover. He did before. Besides, brains never delete files. They just lose connections. But there's always a backup. Just a matter of digging and finding them. MACK: So, you've got backup files, too?
I love Mack and Fitz’s relationship, and I love this conversation. “Brains never delete files. They just lose connections.” I’d like to think Simmons gave Fitz that analogy during the early days of his recovery. I wish we could have gotten Fitz’s answer to Mack’s question.
I’m gonna tag @inevitablefan-ne-girl and @accio-the-force
If you want to be tagged in these rewatch positivity posts, please let me know! I feel like I keep tagging the same people (hope you guys don’t mind!) which isn’t a bad thing, but I’d be happy to tag others too.

I’m so excited. I added everyone on Team Engineering (well, bar one because I can’t get things to cooperate), and I’m sure I’ll add people from Team Biochem as we go on. If you want to add me, please do!
