Deltarune: Kris and the Soul
rating: 2/4
Tumblr media
DISCLAIMER: This story is not yet finished so this is based on what we know up to chapter 2.
Why they're a system: While it's shown very little in this point in the story, there will be occasions in which the player will loose control of their player character, "Kris" when they remove their "Soul". During this Kris acts radically differently then when the player is in control. Similarly, when picking various options it's shown that Kris does not strictly follow the commands that the player picks, showing an individual personality. Actually Plural Evil Alter: Yes Erase The System: No One Dimensional Alters: No Internalized Ableism: Ambiguous Ableism Rating: Bad Enjoyable: No Rating explanations under cut
Kris Deltarune is Actually Plural because it appears to be two distinct characters inhabiting one body, however it's not canonical plurality and it seems to be done through magical means. While I doubt (because of the heavy character focus in Toby Fox's writing) it will stand, as the story currently is Kris while soulless has only done pretty evil actions, like slashing their mothers tires, and glaring at the camera with a evil red eye. Stereotypical evil stuff. The System is Not Erased at this point in the story, however because of the conflict caused by the cohabitation and the lack of communication and either practically non-existent or demonization in their opinions of each other, the story lends itself to erasure by it's end. The Alters are Not One Dimensional, as even with limited display of the characters individuality in the story, they're not treated as components of a whole and Kris while Soulless is humanized via their choice, in the seemingly limited time they can be in control for, to eat a pie as opposed to furthering any schemes (as it may be if they were an Evil Alter). It is difficult to gleam whether or not the characters experience internalized ableism because of their limited screen time, however it should be noted their seeming distaste with their cohabitation. The Ableism rating is Bad, as when interpreting this story as plural it involves a soul possessing the body of someone evil, with no displays of communication or even the characters inner feelings on this possession. I Did Not Find this story enjoyable with a plural interpretation, mostly because the lack of screen time to this plot and the fact as a plural interpretation it is pretty much only poor tropes. Also, there is limited fan support for this interpretation.

there's a lot to bitch about re: supernatural but at least it was made in 2005 starring teen soap actors on the cw with one million episodes per season. that's real television. if they made that shit now it would be like six episodes on apple tv and glen powell would be in it. so count your fucking blessings.

Jason who is still hesitant to spend any of Bruce’s money until…
Bruce: Hey, what’s this charge on my card? $1000 for… Robux? Is that like cryptocurrency?
Jason: Uh. I wanted VIP in ‘Dress to Impress’ and then I realised I could customise my avatar and then I wanted to buy items in-game and-
Bruce: Oh, so it’s like a video game thing? And not crypto? That’s fine then.
Dick, a Runway Diva in DTI: You play fucking Roblox? Lame.
Jason: Yeah? You would too if you had any joy or whimsy in your heart.
Tim, has been spending hundreds on Roblox using Bruce’s card for months, knows Bruce knows what Roblox is: Oh, Roblox! I’ve heard of that, it’s like… minecraft but mini games, right?
Jason, eye twitching: Something like that.
Damian, has also spent hundreds of Bruce’s dollars on Robux recently: It sounds like a frivolous investment. But whatever makes you happy, Todd.
Duke: Wait… I am not using my free will and rich adults to my advantage. I’ve been doing free to play shit this whole time. Bruce, give me your card.
Bruce, bewildered but supportive: O-okay?
Steph, who has been using Tim’s money (which is Bruce’s money) for Robux: Hey, I also want your card. (She does not intend to buy Robux. God knows what she will purchase. I support her.)

A writer friend told me something that broke my heart a little bit today; they're going to quit publishing their fanfic.
My instant thought was that they had been trolled or attacked or that something terrible had happened in their life because this person is so passionate about their writing. It wasn't any of that. Engagement with their works has been going down, as it has for many of us. Comments are like gold dust a lot of the time, and just looking through the historical comment counts on old fics on ao3 demonstrates this trend very clearly. It was not simply the comments dropping off which caused them to decide to stop posting, however.
My friend came across a discord server for their fandom (I should point out here that their fandom interest and mine diverged a couple of years ago, we stay in touch but don't currently read each other's posts because I'm not into their fandom and they would rather gouge their eyes out with a wooden spoon than read anything Star Wars) and specifically to share fic in that fandom. They joined, because we all love a good fic rec, only to discover that their latest multichapter fic, which has almost no comments and very few kudos, is being hotly discussed in this server as one of the best stories ever. Not one of these people has bothered to say this to them on the fic. When they asked, none of participants could see the point in telling the author of the fic they apparently loved so much that they love it.
This discovery has absolutely destroyed my friend's love of sharing fic. They share because they love seeing other people's enjoyment, and fic writers do that through comments and kudos/reblogs/likes because we don't get paid. There is no literary critic writing a blog post/article about how amazing the story is for us to copy and keep/frame. There is no money from royalties. All we have are the words of the people reading our works.
Those people on that server could have taken five minutes of the time they spent gushing about how amazing my friend's story was to other people and used it to tell the one person guaranteed to want to hear that praise how much they loved it. They could have taken a moment to express their opinion to the person who spent hours upon hours plotting, writing, editing, and posting those chapters. Instead, they deprived my friend of thing that keeps them sharing their writing, and in the process have killed their love of it. My friend now feels used and unmotivated.
I won't be sharing a link to their fic, they said I could share their experience but not their identity. I know they plan to post one final chapter. I know they intend to express their hurt at being excluded from the praise for the thing they created, and I know they intend to announce that as a consequence they will not be posting for a long while, if at all.
So please, I beg you, don't hide your love of a story from the writer. It's just about the only thing we have.

Click: Adam Sandler
Rating: I'm so Sorry
Tumblr media
Why this is plural: He uses a remote that makes him go on "Autopilot" for long periods of time, which later comes to activate automatically after certain "triggers". People describe him in a "Zombie-Like" state, a state that has it's own memories that it references but he can't remember. This sucks.
Kind Of Plural Evil Alter: No Erase The System: Yeah, I guess. One Dimensional Alters: Kind Of Internalized Ableism: Yes Ableism Rating: Egregious Enjoyable: NO.

ANHEDONIA REMEDIES!
GET YOUR ANHEDONIA REMEDIES HERE!
if you are lost in the rut, i am begging you to read this essay by Sasha Chapin suggesting what, essentially, my take, are potential jump-starts back into living life in real time. like actually experiencing experiences
do it now! don’t lose months, years, or decades! there is a life beyond doomscrolling, and it’s finite (sorry. sorry. i know okay)

I know I've said it before but I'm saying it again, I just absolutely adore how Danny's eyes glow green in human form when he's getting particularly mischievous, not just when he's especially angry
